00:00:00.000 Hello everybody, I'm John Fawcett with this Great America Show midday update for Thursday, June 12th.
00:00:04.560 Happy Thursday, folks. The weekend is almost here.
00:00:07.100 Pete Hegseth on Capitol Hill today talking about the defense spending bill that he's going to need for his Pentagon,
00:00:14.200 saying the DOD was spending tens of millions of dollars a year sticking marbles in the rear ends of cats
00:00:20.720 in his jaw-dropping Senate testimony.
00:00:23.680 Take a listen to his exchange with Marxist Dem, Dick Durbin.
00:00:26.340 I'll tell you what I've done about it. As chairman of this subcommittee at one point in time,
00:00:30.920 we have dramatically, dramatically increased the medical research to protect the men and women in uniform.
00:00:39.300 As we learn these things, we want to get to the bottom of it as quickly as possible.
00:00:43.120 It is enough for me that they risk their lives for our country.
00:00:46.940 We shouldn't make it a more dangerous situation, and we ought to understand what's going on in their minds
00:00:52.660 and their bodies when they serve.
00:00:54.080 And as a result of that, we have dramatically increased defense medical research.
00:01:00.800 I think we owe it to the men and women in uniform.
00:01:03.460 Your budget cuts two-thirds, two-thirds of that amount for defense health research.
00:01:09.600 How can that be consistent with our mutual goal of making the military life a safer life for our men and women in uniform?
00:01:16.880 Well, Senator, I would take issue with your characterization that all two-thirds of that whatever was reduced
00:01:23.240 is focused on the issues that you just spoke about because those are issues that, as a secretary who's very close to these issues
00:01:29.100 and knows people close to these issues, my team knows that's exactly the type of research that we would fund.
00:01:36.340 But we did find lots of other research inside the Defense Department to the tens and millions,
00:01:42.200 and in some cases hundreds of millions of dollars, that was a boondoggle for the American people.
00:01:47.540 Why do you say, give me an example of a boondoggle in medical research.
00:01:51.600 There are multiple.
00:01:53.100 I mean, we're talking about some stuff I shouldn't say in public.
00:01:57.640 You know, marbles in the rear ends of cats, tens of millions of dollars, things that don't have a connection to what you're talking about.
00:02:08.080 Is this like the 350-year-old Social Security check that the president told us about?
00:02:13.580 Senator, I respect completely the issue that you're speaking with, and this department couldn't be more sympathetic to that
00:02:18.720 and ensure that it's funded.
00:02:19.720 But the Defense Department has been a place where organizations, entities, and companies know they can get money almost unchecked
00:02:29.100 to whether or not it actually applies to things that happen on the battlefield.
00:02:32.880 That's what we worked very hard to find in ways that other secretaries have not.
00:02:37.100 Let me tell you.
00:02:37.960 This committee and others talk about waste, fraud, and abuse all the time.
00:02:41.100 We have actually gone after waste, fraud, and abuse because every dollar that we spent is a dollar we can pour into the world.
00:02:47.180 Eliminating two-thirds of the money for defense health research, put that next to the decision to cut NIH medical research by 40%.
00:02:56.160 Does that make America great again for these military families?
00:02:59.840 I don't think so.
00:03:01.060 $45 million for a parade, for God's sake.
00:03:04.220 Money should be put in defense medical research instead of wasted on some pomp and circumstance for the president.
00:03:10.360 This is not consistent with what the men and women in uniform deserve.
00:03:14.020 What can you expect from the Marxist Dems under the rule of Marxist Dem leader, Joe Biden?
00:03:20.040 Or, as I guess I should say, puppet leader, Joe Biden.
00:03:24.500 Tariff derangement syndrome.
00:03:26.080 It's the new TDS.
00:03:28.100 Bad news for those people who are tariff deranged.
00:03:30.640 That's right.
00:03:31.260 Rand Paul and Thomas Massey and all those folks against the tariffs.
00:03:35.580 Producer price inflation comes in weaker than expected.
00:03:39.420 That's right, the price of goods and services charged by the United States business rose less than expected in May,
00:03:45.640 adding to the evidence that the president's tariffs are not putting upward pressure on inflation.
00:03:50.780 Just as we told you, folks.
00:03:52.740 The producer price index, the final demand, ticked up 0.1% last month, half of what economists had forecasted.
00:03:59.840 Core producer prices, a metric which excludes food and energy, also rose 0.1%.
00:04:03.420 One-third of 0.3% increase forecasted by economists.
00:04:09.200 Not bad, folks.
00:04:10.440 They told us the tariffs were going to kill the economy.
00:04:12.900 It looks to be doing just the opposite.
00:04:15.100 And the Congressional Budget Office finds that that one big, beautiful bill raises household incomes by cutting taxes.
00:04:20.920 That's right.
00:04:21.700 Don't let Rand Paul lie to you or any of those other rhinos who are going to be voting against the bill.
00:04:26.540 Not saying Rand Paul's a rhino, but he's a no on the bill.
00:04:29.700 A report from the Congressional Budget Office finds that one big, beautiful bill passed by the House last month
00:04:34.780 would increase household resources across most income distribution, driven overwhelmingly by a reduction in federal taxes.
00:04:43.000 According to that CBO report that was out this afternoon, the average household income would rise from 2026 to 2034.
00:04:50.620 Under that period, under the legislation, it extends key provisions of the 2017 tax reform law
00:04:55.280 and rolls back various health care and climate subsidies.
00:04:58.380 Some households expected to earn as much as $12,000 a year more than previously expected.
