A new report from the Department of Health and Human Services reveals a disturbing truth about how Americans are spending the money, where the federal government is spending it, and what it all means for the future of our country and our children. The U.S. Treasury is starting the process to phase out production of the penny, making good on President Trump s directive that the United States government will stop producing its 1 cent coins after more than 200 years. 00:00:00.000 Hello, everybody. I'm John Fawcett with this Great America Show midday update for Thursday, May 22nd.
00:00:05.060 Happy Thursday, folks. Weekend's almost here.
00:00:09.000 Secretary of HHS, RFK Jr., releasing a Maha report today, the first of its kind.
00:00:15.860 Troubling information about just where Americans are spending the money, where the federal government's spending the money,
00:00:21.900 and what it all means for the future of our country and the future of our children.
00:00:25.800 Let's take a listen to some of RFK Jr.'s remarks from earlier today.
00:00:29.080 All of us agree that the U.S. will cease to be a world superpower if we continue spending two times more than any country on health care,
00:00:38.980 while living less than citizens of other countries and enduring fertility crisis,
00:00:44.780 a crisis in recruiting people to the military, and the ruinous health care costs.
00:00:53.260 Health expenditures are the largest part of the federal budget,
00:00:56.160 and we get sicker for each and every dollar we spend.
00:01:00.200 Ninety percent of that spending is going for chronic disease.
00:01:04.060 And everyone agrees it's a moral failing that U.S. children are on track today to live shorter lives than their parents.
00:01:11.900 The first time in American history where that is the case.
00:01:14.980 This report is the first time in modern American history that the federal government gives a clear-eyed assessment
00:01:21.600 of what is happening to children's health and the potential causes.
00:01:26.380 RFK Jr. is absolutely right.
00:01:28.100 If we don't get this under control, the already dying fertility rates in this country are going to be far worse than they already are,
00:01:35.580 if not even imaginable, but possible.
00:01:38.180 In other news, folks, start saving your pennies, no pun intended.
00:01:42.380 The U.S. Treasury is starting the process to phase out production of the penny,
00:01:45.560 making good on President Trump's directive that the United States government will stop producing its one-cent coins
00:01:50.800 after more than two centuries.
00:01:53.280 The Treasury Department spokesperson said the agency had placed its final order of pennies this month
00:01:58.320 and that the U.S. Mint would continue manufacturing the pennies until that supply runs out.
00:02:02.780 Now, for those of you who are asking, why are we getting rid of the penny?
00:02:05.460 The Mint is saying that it expects it will realize an immediate annual savings of $56 million a year
00:02:11.200 by phasing out the production of the penny.
00:02:13.900 Trump ordered the move in February, citing the rising cost of production for the coin,
00:02:17.900 saying, quote, for far too long, the United States has minted pennies,
00:02:20.720 which literally cost us more than two cents.
00:02:23.240 That is wasteful.
00:02:24.460 President Trump is very, very common-sense-oriented, I should say.
00:02:29.160 And the Trump administration this afternoon,
00:02:31.100 revoking Harvard's right to enroll foreign students.
00:02:34.800 More than a quarter of its annual enrollment
00:02:37.080 is a major escalation of the president's fight with one of the world's most storied universities.
00:02:42.580 President Trump, it's no secret that he's furious at Harvard,
00:02:45.640 which had produced 162 Nobel Peace Prize winners,
00:02:50.020 projecting his demands that it submit to oversight on a mission in hiring
00:02:54.020 over his claims that it's hotbed of anti-Semitism and woke liberal ideology.
00:03:00.960 Effective immediately, Harvard University's student exchange visa program
00:03:04.500 certification is being revoked,
00:03:06.820 Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem
00:03:08.860 wrote in a letter to the Ivy League institution
00:03:11.580 referring to the main system
00:03:13.000 by which foreign students are permitted to study in the United States.
00:03:17.060 It's very simple, folks.
00:03:18.220 President Trump is not asking for much.
00:03:19.920 He's just asking to stop indoctrinating students.
00:03:24.080 Not too much to ask for.
00:03:25.740 And the House of Representatives finally getting something done
00:03:28.800 under Mike Johnson's leadership.
00:03:30.980 We're pretty hard on Mike Johnson on this show,
00:03:32.840 but for the right reasons, folks,
00:03:34.280 we want the America First agenda through.
00:03:36.940 All of us who voted for President Trump and for this agenda,
00:03:39.820 well, we've got some good news.
00:03:41.360 They passed the most critical bill that Trump has put forward so far,
00:03:45.460 the legislative agenda aspect of it,
00:03:48.220 a vote of 215 to 214,
00:03:50.880 two Republican rhinos,
00:03:52.100 Thomas Massey of Kentucky and Warren Davidson of Ohio,
00:03:55.560 voting with the Marxist Dems on that big, beautiful bill.
00:03:58.480 One Republican, Andrew Garbarino of New York,
00:04:01.240 fell asleep and missed the vote.
00:04:03.880 He says he would have voted yes on the bill,
00:04:06.360 but we're not entirely sure.
00:04:09.200 Total rhino, part of that New York squad.
00:04:12.360 Now, interesting timing for the vote.
00:04:14.200 The vote came after a marathon of House Rules Committee hearing
00:04:17.060 that it began after 1 a.m. on Wednesday night
00:04:20.020 and ended 21 hours later when the panel sent the bill to the final vote on the House floor.
00:04:26.320 The bill, exceeding 1,000 pages, extends the 2017 tax cuts,
00:04:30.180 eliminates tax on tips and overtime,
00:04:32.340 and introduces new deductions.
00:04:34.600 It also proposes significant spending on defense and immigration enforcement,
00:04:38.360 including funding for the Continental Missile Defense System.
00:04:41.700 It will also provide significant spending on defense and immigration enforcement.
00:04:44.880 The bill will now head to the Senate where it's going to face a little bit of an uphill battle
00:04:48.560 considering the rhinos in the Senate.
00:04:51.400 Lisa Murkowski, John Thune, Tom Cotton, Lindsey Graham.
00:04:55.740 I can go on and on and on.
00:04:57.220 I don't want to bore you folks.
00:04:58.900 But it's going to face a little bit of an uphill battle over there
00:05:02.220 because the rhinos and the Dems are going to take the bill apart
00:05:05.700 and want to put things in and take things out.
00:05:07.600 So we'll keep you up to date on how it's going over there,
00:05:10.080 but it's going to take some time to get that thing rolled through.
00:05:13.940 Another Biden judge, a Marxist Biden judge,
00:05:16.980 blocking President Trump's administration from dismantling the Department of Education.
00:05:21.120 A federal judge this afternoon says that President Trump and his administration
00:05:25.100 cannot go ahead and shut down the Department of Education
00:05:28.320 as President Trump signed in an executive order.
00:05:31.440 President Trump says we've got to get the federal government out of education.
00:05:35.380 The Department of Education has become a bloated bureaucracy
00:05:37.860 that's more interested in pushing its own agenda than helping our kids learn.
00:05:41.960 It's time to put the power back in the hands of the parents,
00:05:45.180 the teachers, and the local school communities.
00:05:48.140 U.S. District Judge Myron John,
00:05:51.020 who has a different opinion than President Trump, of course,
00:05:54.460 a Biden appointee, issued an injunction blocking the administration
00:05:57.660 from laying off Department of Education workers.
00:06:00.860 Quote,
00:06:01.120 This case arises out of an attempt by the defendants to shut down the department
00:06:05.220 without congressional approval. 0.98
00:06:07.660 Just another unelected Marxist damn judge who's got a problem with the America First agenda. 0.98
