00:00:00.000 Hello everybody, I'm John Fawcett with this Great America Show midday update for Wednesday, March 12th.
00:00:05.760 I hope your Wednesdays are off to a great start, or if they started off early, are going absolutely well,
00:00:10.640 as I always wish you each and every day here on the Great America Show.
00:00:14.560 Folks, the Marxist Dems over in the Senate appear ready to back down in the government shutdown fight.
00:00:21.820 Senate Democrats say the six-month government funding resolution that passed the House on Tuesday
00:00:25.840 is, quote, a horrible bill, but there's growing sentiment within the Senate Democratic Conference
00:00:30.620 that it would be too risky to block the legislation and risk a government shutdown that could drag on for weeks.
00:00:36.900 Senate Democrats battled behind closed doors on Tuesday over how to handle the House bill with the number of Democrats,
00:00:42.500 especially those in swing states, arguing that a government shutdown must be avoided
00:00:46.740 even if it means reluctantly voting for a House GOP-drafted bill.
00:00:52.160 Folks, that's how you do it.
00:00:54.460 Several centrists warned that no clear endgame for the government shutdown if Democrats defeated
00:01:00.100 the House bill passed measure, which would increase defense spending by $6 billion,
00:01:04.920 boost funding for border security, and cut non-defense programs by $13 billion.
00:01:10.500 Now, this bill passed the House by a vote of 217 to 213, with only one Democrat voting in favor.
00:01:17.800 But the political calculus is different for the Democrats in the Senate
00:01:20.860 because their votes will be needed to avoid the government shutdown.
00:01:24.600 Now, the Senate Republicans control 53 seats and would need at least eight Marxist Dems
00:01:28.540 to vote in favor to reach the 60-vote threshold needed to overcome the filibuster.
00:01:34.020 Now, Senator Rand Paul, who's a staunch fiscal conservative,
00:01:36.820 says he will vote against the stopgap measure for not doing enough to cut the deficit.
00:01:40.720 Now, on the other side, Senator John Fetterman from the great state of Pennsylvania says
00:01:44.580 he will vote to keep the government open, even if he's not a fan of the House-passed funding stopgap.
00:01:50.000 Folks, this is how you do it.
00:01:51.560 The Marxist Dems constantly beat the Republicans over the head when it comes to the budget fight.
00:01:56.940 This might be the first time I think I've ever seen the Republicans
00:01:59.900 come away with sort of a victory on a budget deal, even if it's a stopgap measure,
00:02:04.860 because the Marxist Dems beat them at their own game every single time.
00:02:08.340 Now, it's not because they got smarter people.
00:02:10.800 It's just because the Republicans are a tad bit more feckless.
00:02:14.360 And, folks, promises made, promises kept.
00:02:16.640 This is the thing you often hear me say on this show, and it's President Trump's mantra,
00:02:20.480 I think, for the next four years.
00:02:22.380 Before winning the White House back in November,
00:02:24.820 President Trump promised he was going to start gutting the Department of Education.
00:02:28.700 Promises made, promises kept.
00:02:31.020 The Education Department announced on Tuesday that it would be firing more than 1,300 workers,
00:02:35.760 effectively gutting the agency.
00:02:37.340 These layoffs mean that the department, which started the year with just over 4,000 employees,
00:02:42.500 will now have a work source about half the size after less than two months with President Trump in office.
00:02:48.080 In addition to the 1,300 workers who were fired this week,
00:02:51.140 572 of them, different employees, accepted separation packages offered in the recent weeks,
00:02:57.860 and 63 probationary workers were terminated last month.
00:03:00.960 Folks, promises made, promises kept.
00:03:04.960 Donald Trump told us he was going to do this, and that's exactly what he's doing.
00:03:09.620 Learning from Canada's mistakes,
00:03:11.440 Britain and Australia says they won't confront President Trump on tariffs.
00:03:15.680 The two nations,
00:03:16.920 UK and Australia,
00:03:18.540 seeking to avoid repeating the mistakes
00:03:20.960 of Canada and Mexico coming after President Trump,
00:03:24.980 while the likes of Canada and European Union have taken combative paths,
00:03:28.760 deciding to match Trump's tariffs,
00:03:30.120 or even go further,
00:03:31.980 Australia says they're going to do quite the opposite,
00:03:35.520 not looking at also the United Kingdom,
00:03:38.040 saying that they have no interest in battling President Trump on tariffs.
00:03:42.300 Now, folks, these aren't just unnecessary tariffs.
00:03:44.460 These are retaliatory tariffs.
00:03:46.480 We're paying tariffs on things that we send into their country,
00:03:49.160 and we're supposed to let them come in here for free.
00:03:50.960 It doesn't work like that, folks.
00:03:52.840 You and I both know,
00:03:54.280 now the Marxist Dems don't know this,
00:03:55.940 but you and I both know that nothing in life is free.
00:03:59.720 So why would they think
00:04:01.080 they're going to continue to import, export for free?
00:04:04.220 It doesn't work like that.
00:04:05.400 And U.S. consumers are getting inflation relief
00:04:08.380 as consumer prices rise less than expected.
00:04:12.700 Huh.
00:04:13.160 Americans are getting relief from the inflation numbers in February.
00:04:16.560 Consumer prices rose 2.8% in 12 months through February,
00:04:20.640 the Labor Department reporting today,
00:04:22.540 slower than the three preceding years,
00:04:25.460 with an increase in record in January.
00:04:27.920 Economists had forecast that the consumer price index
00:04:30.000 would be up 2.9% versus a year ago.
00:04:33.020 So core CPI, which excludes, of course,
00:04:35.720 volatile foods and energy prices,
00:04:37.300 rose 3.1% compared with earlier this year.
00:04:40.720 This was a smaller annual increase
00:04:42.400 than consumers faced in January
00:04:43.900 when core prices were up 3.3%.
00:04:46.040 Economists forecasted 3.2%.
00:04:48.740 So President Trump, I guess,
00:04:50.280 doing all he can, really, in his power
00:04:52.400 to try to slow and ease
00:04:54.160 the inflation that
00:04:56.280 Joe Biden and his Marxist administration
00:04:58.580 gave us over the last four years.
00:05:00.140 And in a landmark election,
00:05:02.080 Greenland's center-right Democrat Party,
00:05:04.740 essentially what it is over there,
00:05:06.540 has emerged victorious.
00:05:08.380 A pro-independence party,
00:05:09.720 the pro-business party advocating
00:05:11.100 for a measured approach to independence from Denmark,
00:05:14.840 now folks, listen carefully,
00:05:17.040 secured approximately 30% of the vote,
00:05:18.980 a significant increase from the 9%
00:05:20.960 in the previous 2021 election.
00:05:24.040 Now the Democrat Party platform
00:05:25.440 emphasizes the development of Greenland's
00:05:27.240 abundance of natural resources,
00:05:29.200 particularly its rare-earth minerals,
00:05:31.520 which are crucial for modern technologies.
00:05:34.180 By advocating for an increase
00:05:35.380 in private sector investment
00:05:36.960 and responsible mining practices,
00:05:39.080 the party aims to reduce
00:05:40.580 economic dependence on Denmark
00:05:42.680 and pave the way for eventual autonomy.
00:05:45.740 Or, perhaps, the merging
00:05:48.120 with the United States.
00:05:50.160 Something, folks,
00:05:50.880 that's a big victory, by the way,
00:05:52.280 for Greenland,
00:05:53.020 trying to separate themselves
00:05:54.460 and get independence from Denmark.
00:05:56.520 Let them be the determining factor
00:05:59.020 if they decide they want to be part of
00:06:00.660 this great American country.
00:06:03.520 So we'll keep you updated on that, folks,
00:06:05.200 as we do on every big issue.
