00:00:00.000 Hello everybody, I'm John Fawcett with this Great America Show midday update for Wednesday, May 28th.
00:00:05.580 President Trump renewing his fight to make Canada the 51st state of America.
00:00:10.740 This time, he's bringing gifts to the table, he's got a hell of a deal that Canada might not be able to refuse.
00:00:16.860 President Trump posting on Truth Social just hours ago,
00:00:20.060 quote, I told Canada, which very much wants to be part of our fabulous Golden Dome system,
00:00:24.820 that it will cost $61 billion if they remain a separate but unequal nation,
00:00:30.160 but will cost $0 if they become our cherished 51st state.
00:00:34.400 They are considering the offer.
00:00:36.840 So now we wait and see.
00:00:38.920 Sometimes I question if President Trump's being facetious or if he's being serious.
00:00:43.640 If he's being serious, this might be a deal that Canada just simply can't refuse.
00:00:48.220 And CNN, very troubled CNN, as if the problems couldn't get any worse for them,
00:00:53.200 its weekly average viewership has collapsed to just 405,000 during the week of May 12th.
00:01:01.260 Over the course of the total day, CNN's average viewership sank to a humiliating 341,000 views.
00:01:08.920 It's all-important 25 to 54 age demo that sets advertising rates.
00:01:12.920 CNN attracted an average of only 74,000 viewers during primetime and a pathetic 58,000 over the total day.
00:01:21.900 Compared to the same week last year, CNN has lost 16% of its primetime viewers and 28% of its total day viewers.
00:01:30.500 Can anybody figure out why nobody's tuning into CNN anymore?
00:01:33.960 I can't seem to figure it out.
00:01:36.520 And the U.S. Navy today announcing they will terminate all testing on cats and dogs.
00:01:40.840 The question I have is why were they using cats and dogs in the first place?
00:01:44.620 Take a listen to the Secretary of Navy, John Phelan, today.
00:01:47.680 Today it gives me great pleasure to terminate all Department of the Navy's testing on cats and dogs,
00:01:53.280 saving taxpayer dollars and ending these inhumane studies.
00:01:56.720 This is long overdue.
00:01:58.180 In addition to this termination, I'm directing the Surgeon General of the Navy
00:02:01.680 to conduct a comprehensive review of all medical research programs
00:02:05.860 to ensure they align with ethical guidelines, scientific necessity,
00:02:10.320 and our core values of integrity and readiness.
00:02:12.980 As I said in the first place, it begs the question,
00:02:15.340 why are they messing with cats and dogs to begin with?
00:02:17.720 There's plenty of other test animals they can use.
00:02:20.600 Please leave the cats and dogs alone.
00:02:23.460 Marco Rubio issuing a visa ban for foreign officials for censoring Americans.
00:02:28.360 Secretary of State Rubio announcing that the Trump administration
00:02:30.900 will impose any visa restrictions that they deem necessary
00:02:33.580 on foreign officials for engaging in censorship of American citizens
00:02:37.160 and attempting to regulate American companies.
00:02:40.900 Free speech is among the most cherished rights we enjoy as Americans.
00:02:43.860 Rubio saying in a statement,
00:02:45.420 he continued that for far too long,
00:02:47.020 Americans have been fined, harassed, and even charged
00:02:49.680 by foreign authorities for exercising their free speech rights.
00:02:53.440 And Elon Musk, who's been kind of quiet of late,
00:02:55.640 doing an interview over the weekend,
00:02:57.360 expressing his disdain and disappointment
00:02:59.880 for the big, beautiful bill that the House of Representatives
00:03:02.440 passed this past week,
00:03:04.780 which is now in the Senate,
00:03:06.420 waiting for approval over there.
00:03:08.160 Take a listen to Elon and his disdain for that bill.
00:03:10.980 I was like disappointed to see the massive spending bill,
00:03:15.580 frankly,
00:03:16.400 which increases the budget deficit,
00:03:19.560 not just decrease it,
00:03:21.180 and undermines the work that the Doge team is doing.
00:03:23.080 I actually thought that when this big, beautiful bill came along.
00:03:26.300 I mean, like,
00:03:27.080 everything he's done on Doge gets wiped out in the first year.
00:03:31.420 I think a bill can be big,
00:03:33.940 or it can be beautiful.
00:03:35.700 But I don't know if it can be both.
00:03:38.000 My personal opinion.
00:03:39.640 Now, Elon is right.
00:03:40.580 The bill is, by no stretch of the imagination, perfect.
00:03:44.040 As the federal government continues to spend money
00:03:46.400 like it's nobody's business,
00:03:47.920 they can't seem to cut down anything,
00:03:50.180 can't cut into the federal deficit,
00:03:52.140 can't cut anything out of the federal budget,
00:03:54.800 so the debt will continue to rise.
00:03:57.140 Now, like I said,
00:03:57.800 there are some good things in this bill.
00:03:59.840 The bill is expected to cost $1.4 trillion.
00:04:02.800 It's going to extend the 2017 tax cuts
00:04:04.900 that President Trump originally signed in his first term,
00:04:08.100 eliminate federal taxes on tips over time,
00:04:10.600 and interest from loans on U.S.-made cars.
00:04:13.040 Three of President Trump's big campaign promises
00:04:15.580 that some pollsters say
00:04:17.020 allowed him to carry states such as Nevada and Michigan,
00:04:21.080 among its other provisions,
00:04:22.240 includes a $1,000 tax-free MAGA savings account
00:04:25.220 for every newborn,
00:04:27.040 raising the child tax credit to $2,500 until 2028,
00:04:30.440 and additional work requirements for Medicaid
00:04:32.820 starting in 2026.
00:04:34.980 As I said last week,
00:04:35.940 the House narrowly passing it $215 to $214.

00:04:57.580 Does Mike Johnson want to give up the House
00:04:59.100 and give it back to the Democrats

00:05:04.400 that he wants to keep it.
