00:01:25.860 So when he was 16, he went with me to Egypt to help with their evacuations from Gaza.

00:01:32.500 He's been with me to Bethlehem and across the West Bank and Jordan.

00:01:37.400 But this was a different kind of trip.

00:01:38.940 In fact, my wife said to me before we left, it was kind of heavy.

00:01:42.840 She said, you know, honey, I've come to terms with the fact that I might lose you on your trips.

00:01:47.680 But the idea of losing my son is too much.

00:01:50.360 While it was striking to her say that, and I said, well, we're prudent.

00:01:53.540 we don't take any unnecessary risks and if things seem too challenging he can he'll stay back in

00:02:00.160 Beirut but the reality is you know through the night our building rocked about 40 plus times a 0.63

00:02:05.880 night from bombs landing near us and at one point we had to drive through Hezbollah controlled

00:02:10.680 territory where our convoy had been attacked with rockets previously in fact as our convoy went

00:02:16.700 through there were still human remains on the side of the road from an Israeli attack that had just

00:02:21.040 happened shortly before our convoy went. And then several hours later, 11 people died,

00:02:26.300 civilians died where our convoy had just passed. So, I mean, it did come with some level of risk,

00:02:31.940 but, you know, the Vulnerable People Project, what we do is we serve the most vulnerable people in

00:02:37.200 the world when the world is left. And my son wants to work for me. He's in his gap year.

00:02:42.760 I joined the U.S. Army Infantry when I was 17. I was on my first deployment before my 18th birthday.

00:02:48.540 And so, you know, my son is a man, and I wanted him to see what this work really entails.

00:02:52.960 He handled it like a champ, and I think he's really, he has maybe called for this work.

00:02:58.260 But why did I go?

00:02:59.880 You know, we saw that when we went to Iraq, when ISIS was running amok, we went to visit

00:03:05.680 the ancient Christian communities, and I traveled with the Peshmerga to document the genocide.

00:03:10.280 When we visited the IDP camps and the Christian communities and camps, they had never been

00:03:15.260 visited by the U.S. State Department.

00:03:16.800 there was no national attention being directed on them. And one of the Peshmerga generals messaged

00:03:23.940 me about a week after I left, and he said, it was like magic. After you left, the Iraqi government

00:03:28.960 sent people, the Kurdish government sent people, and the U.S. State Department visited every location

00:03:33.900 that you visited. And if you want to know why we go there, we know that the squeaky wheel gets the

00:03:39.740 grease. And in the seven days since we left, Israel said that they would like to support and protect

00:03:46.280 these Christian communities, Christian communities which they were working to erase until quite

00:03:50.480 recently. The U.S. State Department now is in direct contact with the municipalities that we

00:03:55.920 visited just days after we left, although we were the first non-residents of these villages to spend

00:04:02.620 the night there since March. Not even the Lebanese government had sent representatives. We were the

00:04:08.140 first people to spend the night. Now, the nuncio to Lebanon and these brave priests and volunteers

00:04:14.820 for Caritas would make the caravans several times a week under direct fire sometimes. They're very

00:04:21.180 brave, but they would never spend the night. They would come and then they would go. So we were

00:04:24.900 really the first outsiders to spend the night. We stayed there for a week and we visited three of

00:04:30.540 the four Christian villages in the South that remain. And we came up with a plan to ensure

00:04:35.860 that they will survive through the winter, even if just the Vulnerable People Project were to stand

00:04:40.560 with them. But we also, of course, met with the representatives of the U.S. State Department.

00:04:45.200 We caught the state of Israel's attention, which we have been doing lately. Haaretz,

00:04:49.420 the Israeli newspaper, said Vulnerable People Project is the most effective advocate in the

00:04:53.400 world for Christians in the Holy Land. But that's like a trophy when you're competing kind of only

00:04:58.040 against yourself. There's not a lot of organizations that really have the fortitude to stand up to the

00:05:04.440 state of Israel, and it's war on the ancient Christian communities in the Holy Land.

00:06:24.760 God opens. VPP, I look at my apostolate through the eyes of a father and a grandfather. When I

00:06:30.280 founded this organization almost 25 years ago, the idea was to stand with fathers that were in

00:06:36.220 impossible situations trying to protect their families from violence, whether genocide,

00:06:40.720 democide, war, abortion. And that's our mission. And so a lot of what we do is it might be striking

00:06:46.620 to people. You know, we were through children's festivals in Gaza at the height of the war.

00:06:51.700 So we said, let's throw a children's festival in southern Lebanon.

00:06:56.220 And so a lot of those pictures are from our children's festival.

00:06:58.820 We had over 500 children come.

00:07:01.280 The UN peacekeepers provided our protection.

00:07:04.300 Bombs were going off in the distance and children were playing soccer with UN peacekeepers and members of my team.

00:07:12.500 I really felt inspired about a month before I said to my team, let's throw a Marian festival on the Feast of the Assumption in Lebanon.

00:07:19.880 I did not know that that was the biggest celebration of the year for Lebanese Christians.

00:07:26.020 So we reached out to the municipalities and they said, we were going to cancel our celebration

00:07:36.480 They could not believe not only that we came, but that we spent a week there.

00:07:46.280 They found out who I was, and then I make movies, and they asked me if I knew famous people, and I was naming all my famous friends.

00:08:49.360 and joyful, and then you realize where they're at, where you're at, what's going on in the

00:08:54.840 distance. And when you go to bed at night, you yourself are rocked by bombs.

00:08:59.860 Well, like that day I had my son and I said, notice they're forgetting where they are for a

00:09:04.160 minute. I would say, look at that father. He's forgetting where he is for a minute.

00:09:08.460 Look at those children. They're forgetting what's happening around them for a minute.

00:09:11.900 and that's why we do it. But the part that is really challenging is leaving.

00:09:17.180 It's we've all been with a friend we had to visit who's fighting cancer, and we know that they maybe

00:09:22.060 have days or weeks left, and we know it's the last time we're going to see them, but we have to go

00:09:25.540 back to our family, and we have to go back to our career. And so we fly home, we say we love them,

00:09:30.840 we say goodbye, and we leave them. I can say it feels a lot like that. It's really hard for me to

00:09:37.500 leave um you know we've had a really rough year at vpp i probably haven't slept more than two hours

00:09:44.440 a night straight through since january and my son was shocked that when we were in southern lebanon

00:09:51.720 with the bombs going off all night long i slept eight hours straight through i woke up one morning

00:09:57.420 and said i guess there were no bombs last night and my staff and this photographer we hired like

00:10:02.480 looked at me he's like i didn't sleep one second how did you sleep through that i said dad how come

00:10:07.140 you can sleep through the night here, but you can't sleep through the night at home.

00:10:10.740 And I said, well, son, because I feel at peace here, because I couldn't be doing anything more.

00:10:15.540 When I'm at home, I'm lying in bed, like, what more can I be doing? What should I be doing?

00:10:20.240 But when I was there, I just felt peace that I'm doing all that I can do where I'm supposed to be

00:10:26.540 doing it. And the hard part is, you know, a lot of my friends that I'm in odds with, people that

00:10:31.800 I love, I've lost so many friends with my work advocating for Christians in the Holy Land,

00:10:35.860 a lot of friends, people that I still adore, that they probably don't adore me so much.

00:10:41.100 And they've asked me sometimes, why do you fight so hard for the Christians in the Holy Land?

00:10:46.100 Why do you make it so personal? And the reality is because they become my friends. I've been going

00:10:51.160 there for so long. I know these families. They're my friends, just like you're my friend, John Henry.

00:10:56.480 So can you imagine if you and your wife and your children were under bombardment and I was there

00:11:01.580 with you for a week, and then I had to leave you, how horrible that would be? It's the same. These

00:11:07.160 are my friends, in some cases, for as long as you and I have been friends. And we've been friends

00:11:12.140 for almost 30 years. So yeah, it's very challenging. In a way, it's a spiritual exercise.

00:11:18.040 It's the sorrow of solidarity. It's the pain of the Pieta. It's St. John at the foot of the cross,

00:11:25.520 watching someone he loves suffer, but you're not suffering. It's strange. It's strange to be so

00:11:31.300 close to people you love that are being crucified, literally crucified, and you're fine and you're

00:11:39.520 leaving. And then you come home and your friends say you're so brave. No, I wasn't brave. I was

00:11:43.880 there for a week. But these Christian families and these Christian villages are going to be there

00:11:48.780 through this brutal winter. They're stuck between the IDF and Hezbollah and don't think that Hezbollah

00:11:54.700 is good. You know, they're vicious and they're cruel and they're being instrumentalized by

00:12:01.200 foreign powers. And the Christians are stuck in the middle. And where the truth is, there is God. 1.00

00:12:13.180 The world is basically going the way of the church and vice versa. Everyone who's being

00:12:19.960 named a bishop is being named because he's a nice guy. Does he have the Catholic faith? Well,

00:12:26.140 that's not really important. He's nice. I started studying the early church and I realized

00:12:30.700 Wow! The church was all centered around the Eucharist.

00:12:35.300 God has sent again the Blessed Virgin Mary

00:14:12.260 roads because all of the roads were destroyed by Israeli tanks. 1.00

00:16:44.180 much as the protestant world like there are 33 000 protestant denominations have we become a

00:16:48.620 church with 33 000 factions well whatever my message from the vulnerable people project is

00:16:55.180 we can have these squabbles but we should be united and serving the most vulnerable catholics

00:17:02.160 on earth. Can we just do that? Can we please just work together to save the lives of these

00:17:09.100 communities? We just saw last week an ancient monastery in Lebanon dropped. Christian village

00:17:15.680 after Christian village being totally demolished. This being done by the IDF, by Israel? By Israel,

00:17:22.080 yeah. What for? Why? What's the point? They want the land. They want them out. So these Christian 0.84

00:17:28.380 villages, I could literally touch the border of Israel at one point. I could literally touch it.

00:17:32.980 One of the municipalities, one of the mayors said, have you noticed you had your own drone

00:17:37.000 the whole time you were here? I had a drone that was like just my drone. Hi, drone, following me

00:17:42.380 around for days. That's how close we were to the border. And it is true that Hezbollah is all

00:17:48.840 around there. But these Christian villages have nothing to do with Hezbollah, as do most of the 0.77

00:17:53.860 Shia. Like in the South, I think Hezbollah's approval rating is at 27%, right? So they're not

00:17:59.200 a popular movement. They're funded by Iran, which has no interest in Palestinians, no interest

00:18:05.860 in Lebanese, no interest in Southern Lebanon, no interest in the Shia. How do I know that? I work 0.81

00:18:11.280 in Iran, and I work with the Hazara. The Hazara are a Shia minority, the same religion as the

00:18:16.760 regime in Iran, that suffer brutal persecution. You can't even sell them bread. So if the regime

00:18:22.840 in Iran doesn't care for their own Shia minorities in their own country of a different ethnicity,

00:18:27.740 do I think that they care for the people of Lebanon? No. Lebanon is a proxy country. It's

00:18:32.420 a country with a dozen hands that are in it using Lebanon and people of Lebanon for its own 0.86

00:18:37.760 interests. And I will say that the stance of the IDF in southern Lebanon was less brutal and

00:18:46.160 aggressive by farther than Gaza and even less aggressive than in West Bank. But the locals

00:18:52.840 told me it was very aggressive early on. But if you remember, there was a viral image of soldier

00:18:59.820 smashing a crucifix and bashing in the face of Jesus Christ that went viral. And the IDF

00:19:07.340 tightened up its behavior after that. You went to visit that crucifix, did you not?

00:19:21.240 Thankfully, that was caught on tape.

00:19:25.560 The crucifixion of that plastic Jesus, I believe, saved the Christian community of southern Lebanon.

00:19:32.960 Even when that happened, I was just perplexed.

00:19:35.660 They've been killing Christians in southern Lebanon.

00:19:39.300 but when you destroy a plastic Jesus like the plastic Jesus we may have in our church

00:19:45.480 it resonates with us well it thanks be to God that that happened and if you look at the face

00:19:53.000 of Christ that was a lot of effort to smash the face of Jesus in like that it was really scary

00:19:59.720 and it was really sorrowful to think that the image of a crucifix would engender so much rage

00:20:06.120 and an IDF soldier. And I will say that this wasn't unusual. Every crucifix they came across,

00:20:12.620 they would be these little crucifixes in people's homes. They broke the arms. They would just break

00:20:17.400 the arms and they would leave it standing still, but with no arms. And one of the Lebanese residents 0.98

00:20:23.560 asked me, I wonder why they just don't take the whole thing or just break off the arms. 0.96

00:20:28.120 And I said, they're probably just war trophies. They probably break the arms of Jesus and they

00:20:32.160 put them in their pocket and it's a war trophy. But we saw this everywhere. We saw where they 0.67

00:20:37.880 would bayonet and stab statues of St. Charbel. You know, they would smash in images of the

00:20:45.840 Blessed Virgin Mary. And it's exactly what I saw in Iraq when I would go into churches after ISIS

00:20:50.960 had come through. And so to think that Israel, which is really a Western colonial state, 0.80

00:20:56.920 these are Westerners, a lot of these soldiers are Americans, citizens, that they would behave

00:21:01.600 in such a way that i saw isis behaving was really really unbelievable and even now you know huckabee

00:21:08.260 had to come out and call the settlers terrorists he called them israeli terrorists and so now

00:21:13.820 across the west bank no one has been a better friend in the state of israel than mike huckabee

00:21:18.800 and he's tried to excuse and apologize for a lot of their attacks on the christians in the west

00:21:23.480 bank but it got to a point where he couldn't ignore it anymore but now they're spray painting

00:21:28.020 all across the West Bank graffiti that the Israeli settlers are saying, this was put here by one of 0.96

00:21:33.580 Mike Huckabee's terrorists, Israeli terrorists. The three greatest threats to vulnerable Christian 0.67

00:21:38.780 communities in the world are the state of Israel, India, the state of India, and the rise of Hindu

00:21:44.100 nationalism, and the CCP. You know, there are real threats like Boko Haram. I lost an employee to

00:21:50.940 Boko Haram last year. We provide armed guards for 70 churches across Nigeria. Our goal is to reach

00:21:56.340 100 by the end of the year. I understand that Islamism is a threat, Boko Haram is a threat, 1.00

00:22:01.440 but it's a really challenging threat for our government to address. But I think VPP has come 1.00

00:22:07.140 up with a good plan, which is just to provide armed guards and security cameras and solar for

00:22:11.360 every vulnerable parish. But I think the US State Department has real power over India and over

00:22:18.520 Israel and even with China. And so we really need to work together to encourage the US government

00:22:25.420 to insist that Christians are protected in India, that Christians are protected in the West Bank 0.77

00:22:30.180 and Gaza and Southern Lebanon, and that the CCP reigns in its war on religion.

00:22:35.600 How do you respond to your average American citizen who's going to say,

00:22:39.600 what can I really do? Have the politicians ever really listened to you?

00:22:43.680 You know, we have real influence. First, you have to join with other folks. And I say,

00:23:12.680 representative your local party your your priest your bishop you know vulnerable people project

00:23:17.160 sent father gabriel's book um the priest in gaza book to every bishop in america with a letter from

00:23:24.200 Father Gabriel. We also sent Yanya Kellek, the senior editor of Epoch Times' book on Chinese

00:23:31.100 forced organ harvesting in China, to every bishop of the United States and every bishop in Asia,

00:23:36.600 including every bishop in China. Now, off camera, there is a pile of books returned from China,
