00:00:00.560 Hello, and welcome to this episode of the John Henry Weston Show, in which I'm going
00:00:05.040 to give you what I like to call the secret, inside the secret, of True Devotion to Mary
00:00:10.600 by St. Louis de Montfort.
00:00:12.340 It is something that I can tell you, I've been around the world, I've met many, many
00:00:17.740 people who practice True Devotion to Mary, who love the book, who've read it, but you
00:00:21.720 know what?
00:00:22.100 Very few people, in fact, I would say less than 1% of those who I've talked to about
00:00:27.380 it, know about this great secret in the book.
00:00:30.300 So, you're going to want to stay tuned and learn about it.
00:00:48.500 For those of you who already know all about True Devotion to Mary, and just want the part
00:00:53.620 of it that's secret, I'm going to tell you that you might want to skip to about halfway
00:00:58.040 through this video.
00:00:59.180 I want to start with a little intro for those who may not know much about St. Louis de Montfort's
00:01:03.460 greatest work called True Devotion to Mary, and I'll tell you a little bit about what
00:01:06.940 it's done for my life, and about its origins and greatness.
00:01:10.700 First of all, it has been recommended and practiced by eight popes.
00:01:15.500 True Devotion to Mary is St. Louis de Montfort's greatest work on Our Lady, and it's actually
00:01:20.320 the greatest work on Our Lady in the entire Church, and even though it's only about 100
00:01:25.680 pages long, it surpasses all of the works on Our Lady in the Church by all of the saints,
00:01:32.380 and those works are massive, huge volumes on Our Lady.
00:01:37.680 But St. Pope John Paul II said of this work, he called it a perfect devotion, which is indispensable
00:01:46.380 to anyone who means to give himself without reserve.
00:01:49.280 It is that kind of faith, that kind of trust in the Lord, that kind of love that led me
00:01:54.400 to say, after Mother Mary's example,
00:01:57.320 Behold the slave of the Lord, be it done to me according to thy word.
00:02:01.860 And from that time, my life changed radically.
00:02:05.500 I, of course, went to confession, and my life of faith began with an earnestness that I had
00:02:10.580 never known before.
00:02:11.420 True Devotion was, for me, not just a book or devotion, it was kind of a way of life.
00:02:17.500 For one thing, it had the immediate effect in what seemed miraculous to me of enabling
00:02:22.080 me to overcome some of my sinful habits that I struggled with.
00:02:25.720 It also seemed to give me an immense hunger for the knowledge of the faith.
00:02:29.400 I devoured the scriptures, the catechism, the lives of the saints, and many of the most
00:02:33.600 notable spiritual works in the Church.
00:02:35.620 It drove me with an ardent desire to daily Mass and take up the daily Rosary after the
00:02:42.360 example of my dad, a practice which I have never left since.
00:02:47.300 The good news of salvation changed my life radically.
00:02:51.260 Jesus became the focus and desired end of my whole life.
00:02:54.400 I abandoned my former lifestyle and, along the way, probably lost some friends, but gained
00:03:00.160 others who are not only friends of mine, but brothers and sisters in the Lord.
00:03:04.040 Now, here's something of a secret within the secret of True Devotion, and it's this part
00:03:13.240 that I think is going to be of interest for very many people who already know about True
00:03:17.520 Devotion.
00:03:18.740 You see, for me, especially because of my life of sin, the reality of Holy Communion and
00:03:24.900 my unworthiness to receive Jesus in Holy Communion was really staggering.
00:03:29.000 I realized that here I was, this grave sinner, daring to approach the King of Kings, God
00:03:35.220 himself, and receive him into my heart, which was, until so recently, filled with sin, with
00:03:43.440 really a selfish disregard for others, and filth, real filth.
00:03:49.280 Yet, True Devotion contains this secret which very few know and practice, and it's this.
00:03:55.060 So, it goes this way, and if you read the most popular book on True Devotion is the one from
00:04:12.380 Tan Books, it's a blue-covered, if you have that version, it's on page 167, but it's in
00:04:18.160 most complete works of True Devotion to Mary, not the little orange books, which are basically
00:04:24.480 just the consecration itself.
00:04:26.280 It's in the full book, True Devotion to Mary by St. Louis de Montfort, and by the way, the
00:04:30.180 best English translation of it is by Father William Faber.
00:04:34.280 So, before Mass, St. Louis teaches us to place ourselves humbly in the presence of God,
00:04:39.980 and the prayer goes this way.
00:04:41.700 I renounce myself and all my inner dispositions, no matter how good my self-love may make them
00:04:47.500 look.
00:04:48.160 I'm all thine, my dear mistress, with all that I have, and I take thee for my all.
00:04:52.800 Please give me thy heart, O Mary, that I might receive thy Son here with the same dispositions
00:04:57.880 as thine own.
00:04:59.080 For it touches thy Son's glory to be put into a heart so sullied and inconstant as mine,
00:05:03.980 which would not fail either to lessen his glory or to destroy it.
00:05:07.880 But if thou wilt come and dwell with me in order to receive thy Son, he will be well
00:05:12.700 received by thee without danger of being outraged or unnoticed.
00:05:16.560 For God is in the midst of, and he shall not be moved.
00:05:20.420 Isn't that cool?
00:05:21.920 So, my heart, so filthy and poor, is given to this good mother, and she in turn gives
00:05:27.380 me her holy and immaculate heart where Jesus wants to dwell.
00:05:31.900 The prayer continues this way.
00:05:33.520 I know that of all the gifts that I have given thee of my own goods, I have given thee nothing
00:05:38.980 worthy of thee.
00:05:40.200 But with this gift, I make thee the same gift as the Eternal Father gave thee.
00:05:44.380 And I know that by giving thee this gift, I give thee more than if I gave thee all the
00:05:48.880 gifts in the entire world.
00:05:51.640 Isn't that awesome?
00:05:52.920 Remember when your mother gave you a gift for your dad, when you had nothing to give,
00:05:57.980 you were a little kid, and you, of course, couldn't get anything for your dad anyway.
00:06:01.900 What are you going to buy him when you're a little kid, and you've got a dad, and what
00:06:05.000 can you get for your dad?
00:06:05.920 Well, mom always buys you a gift for dad, and then you, as a little child, give that
00:06:10.420 to your dad, and your dad can go, wow, and appreciate it from you.
00:06:13.120 Well, here is the same opportunity from heaven to give your heavenly mother the gift of gifts.
00:06:21.760 And sure, this is like child's play, but that's what the life of faith is all about.
00:06:26.120 But, truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall
00:06:33.500 not enter it, said our Lord.
00:06:34.940 Remember?
00:06:36.780 And de Montfort's prayer before Mass concludes this way.
00:06:41.140 And finally, Jesus still desires to take his pleasure and repose in thee, even in my
00:06:46.740 soul, though be far filthier and poorer than that stable where he did not hesitate to come,
00:06:51.500 simply because thou wert there.
00:06:52.880 I take thee for my all.
00:06:55.520 Please give me thy heart, O Mary.
00:06:59.060 That final part is, to me, the very best, since it so perfectly states what I feel is my reality.
00:07:06.200 My heart is very much like that stable in Bethlehem, full of animal manure and dirt and cold and
00:07:13.400 stench.
00:07:14.700 And yet, there he comes, there Jesus comes, there our Lord comes.
00:07:19.820 I have taken to adding another little small prayer to that because Joseph, St. Joseph, was
00:07:27.140 in that stable as well.
00:07:28.960 And so, that little add-on prayer that I use goes this way.
00:07:33.740 Good St. Joseph, please come and by thy intercession cleanse the stables of our hearts like that
00:07:39.120 it's the stable in Bethlehem.
00:07:40.720 And that completes the preparation before Mass, as recommended by St. Louis de Montfort, but
00:07:47.060 there's more to this secret.
00:07:48.820 In the book as well, he recommends that prayer before Mass begins.
00:07:54.240 And then, another prayer at the Domini Non Sumdinius part of the Mass, where it used to be said
00:07:59.520 three times, the Lord I'm not worthy.
00:08:01.160 During their Lord I'm not worthy part, which comes just before communion, de Montfort suggests
00:08:07.320 praying this.
00:08:10.440 First to God, the Father.
00:08:12.320 Lord, I'm not worthy because of my sins and ingratitude towards so good a Father to receive
00:08:16.380 the body and blood of thy Son.
00:08:18.200 But I beg thee to have mercy on me, and behold not me, but behold the handmaid of the Lord
00:08:23.040 who acts for me and gives me a singular confidence and hope with thy majesty.
00:08:27.520 Think about how great that is, incorporating Mary's original prayer of her first reception
00:08:33.980 of Christ into her body, into our own reception of Christ in the Eucharist.
00:08:39.240 So then, his next invocation is to God the Son.
00:08:42.800 Lord, I'm not worthy because of my sins and infidelity to thy service to receive thy body,
00:08:47.840 blood, soul, and divinity in this great sacrament of thy love.
00:08:51.120 But I beg of thee to come to me that I might bring thee into the heart of thy well-beloved
00:08:56.400 mother, into the chamber of her that bore thee.
00:08:59.440 I take no confidence in my own preparations, strength, and merits.
00:09:02.940 I trust only in Mary, thy dear mother, as Jacob did in Rebekah, and sinner in Esau that
00:09:07.600 I am.
00:09:07.900 I dare to approach thy sanctity, supported and adorned as I am by the virtues of Mary, thy
00:09:14.600 most holy mother.
00:09:15.980 Well, there's way too much to unpack there.
00:09:20.860 But let's just say we have the privilege of bringing Jesus to the heart of his mother
00:09:26.020 Mary, of coming before the King of Kings with her glorious virtues, of pleasing him with the
00:09:32.080 only human heart which never was touched with the slightest stain of sin.
00:09:37.140 And then finally, to God the Holy Ghost, Saint Louis de Montfort composes this,
00:09:44.180 Lord, I'm not worthy because of my sins and resistance, thy holy inspirations, to receive
00:09:49.240 this masterpiece of thy charity.
00:09:51.080 But I beg of thee to come to me and marry thy most holy and inseparable spouse.
00:09:56.860 Come to me in her whose bosom is as pure and heart as burning as ever.
00:10:01.540 For without thy descendant in my soul, neither Jesus nor Mary will be formed nor worthily lodged.
00:10:07.320 So, after receiving Jesus in Holy Communion, I welcome him into the heart of Mary, his mother,
00:10:17.640 and I renew my consecration prayer, which we all know if we read the book.
00:10:23.560 And if you read the consecration prayer, and I mean the full one, I say the short one every day
00:10:27.900 as a Thanksgiving, but if you read the full one, it works as a perfect Thanksgiving for Holy Communion.
00:10:34.340 And if you've never heard of this book, True Devotion, it's the greatest gift I could ever give you.
00:10:41.760 Stop watching this video now and go get it.
00:10:44.340 It will change your life.
