In this episode of the John Henry Weston Show with the Bishop of Ketui, Joseph Molenga, we talk about the church in Africa and how they are standing firm in the face of the pressures to go against life and family.
00:00:00.000In the Bible we see Herod. Herod wants to kill the child Jesus and because he can't raise him at that
00:00:06.720moment he orders for the killing of all the young ones two years and below. What is that? It is still
00:00:13.980there today. Hello friends we are here. Jim and I just arrived in Kenya. We were in Uganda before
00:00:27.520we're in Kenya now and it is incredible. You know one thing that we noticed right away when we got to
00:00:33.560Kenya was the culture of welcome. They call it caribou here and we're taught to say asante asante
00:00:40.040sana which means thank you very much and it has been an amazing welcome. We were just at mass this
00:00:47.660morning we drove from Nairobi to Ketui about two hours and we were just at a beautiful mass where
00:00:54.280this bishop whom we're going to talk to now gave a homily that was truly amazing. One that was
00:00:59.480very forthright on the teachings of the church. All the hard ones that so many of the faithful
00:01:06.740in Canada, in America, even in Europe are unwilling to talk about. You see we've come to Africa to study
00:01:15.160how they are standing up against the pressures to go against life and family. Pressures which
00:01:21.520almost the whole of America, Canada and Europe have fallen to. We are overwhelmed by the LGBT
00:01:28.560agenda, the agenda against life and yet here in Africa they're standing firm. How is that even
00:01:34.380possible when you've got the administrations, Biden, Trudeau, all of Europe, the EU and not only them
00:01:40.440also huge corporations trying to fund their way into Africa and change their culture. They're not
00:01:46.160letting it happen. They're standing firm amidst this awful pressure. We're here to find out how
00:01:51.800they're doing that. So you've got to stay tuned for this episode of the John Henry Weston Show
00:01:56.020with the Bishop of Ketui, Joseph Molenga.

00:03:26.020In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
00:03:39.000I am Bishop Joseph Mwangela of the Catholic Church of Ketui here in Kenya. I am also the chairman in the Kenya Catholic Bishops Commission of Lay and Pastoral Apostles.
00:03:54.940What is the heart of the Church of Ketui here in Kenya and in Africa is the family. We are one. And as people, we work together and work together as a community. A child belongs to the community. Although you have a father and a mother, but you are a child of a community.
00:04:16.140When you succeed, the community succeeds. When you fail, the community fails. And that's the cement that is there. Most of the activities are done by families in communion as one. And the idea of a church, right from the time when we talk about the church in Africa, the synod of Africa, is that the church has a family of the people of God.
00:04:41.560So the idea of a family is very crucial. It binds us together. We work together. And we like to move as brothers and sisters. The only drawback is when, because you are 42 tribes, when sometimes we feel like this belongs to that tribe and I belong to this tribe.
00:04:59.160But in Jesus Christ, we see ourselves as brothers and sisters and try to work together in harmon, to kill divisions and to promote harmon. But the family is very crucial. You have to grow together.
00:05:11.560Loving each other as brothers and loving each other, loving each other as brothers and sisters, loving our families, and having that sense of belonging.
00:05:17.880As a church, we promote that concept, that the greatest asset that we have in any family is the binding together, the husband and wife and their children.
00:05:28.520And for many, many families, many parents, their greatest investment is in their own children.
00:05:36.680It's not the amount of money that they have in their banks, but how well they take of their children.
00:05:42.020And the greatest sorrow is when a family has invested in the young ones.
00:05:59.160Because there are those who love, others who don't love you.
00:06:02.100When those who are succeeding, they see, the others see them now getting children who are not doing the right thing in the family, becoming irresponsible.
00:06:13.580But essentially, we rejoice in growing together and lifting each other so that we grow together.
00:06:19.500The teachings of the church have helped us to grow.
00:06:21.600That love of the family, love of children as a gift from God, from birth, from actual conception to natural death.
00:06:30.020And liking that and accepting it in spite of its challenges, knowing that the beauty of creation, children are always given as a gift from God.
00:07:18.420When people are frightened because of young ones, if I fear to get a child, if I fear to get two children, then there will even be a strain in that family.
00:07:27.360So we encourage our people, love children, love one another.
00:07:32.880Let's bring up our children in ways of morals to be God-fearing.
00:07:36.320Because of this is where we are getting vocations.
00:07:39.140There is going to be a crisis of vocations everywhere throughout the world if we don't embrace a family, if we don't love children and show them the right way.
00:07:47.860So for us, it is great openness to all the cultures of the world, to all practices, encouraging our people, loving them, loving every child.
00:07:57.320Even in the disabilities, we say here, inability.
00:13:07.700Even if it's love between them and that's what they think they have, how they learn is something different.
00:13:13.120But I cannot come and ratify this and universalize what just belongs to me.
00:13:19.940Like a group of love for the church, I have chosen to become a priest and I study for priesthood.
00:13:25.620Someone else who is not called priesthood goes to do what they want to do and they become married and they follow that as their way of life.
00:13:32.240So my whole life cannot say my love for the church and love for priesthood.
00:13:36.900Everybody else should be in love for that.
00:13:39.700And essentially the church says the marriage between a man and a woman and those, they love each other because they must be bonded by love.
00:20:13.100That we are not driving an agenda of an individual, of a group, small group, or big group, a multinational, a government, a division of a group of people, by doing the will of God.
00:20:24.940And actually, indeed, my own motto is that your will be done.
00:20:29.920And that's the will of God, not the will of an individual, not mine, not the will of some sponsors, not the will of this group, but the will of God, which you must always seek to do.
00:22:51.480In America, I think a lot of the Christians in America are, because we do look to Africa as the last man standing for the truth of the gospel values.
00:23:00.480Do you have any advice for us that you would suggest that we can do to recapture our love for life, love for family in America and all of the West?
00:23:13.740I've seen the all livelihoods of the churches.
00:23:16.300You can have the best and the worst in every place.
00:23:19.220Today is a Sunday, and if you go around the streets here, you may find some people who have not gone to church.
00:23:24.040Some drunken people who are sleeping in the trenches.
00:23:26.740But you also go to the churches, and they are full.
00:23:28.800There are people who are in bars last night, and they didn't come.
00:23:32.220But not to say the church in Africa is to be like the light to all nations, to all nations.
00:23:39.300Even the gospel is preached to the gender, or that's what we call them in the nation.
00:23:42.120But to all ends, you start from where the faith is to where it is not.
00:23:46.480And the same for Africa, because you have the abounding number of vocations, you are able to go to those who brought the faith to us, so that we give back.
00:23:56.560You are not going, the church doesn't conquer, but we are sharing the gifts of the church.
00:24:01.520What I have, the richness here, and the poverty elsewhere.
00:24:05.720If there is poverty or vocations, why don't I share the vocations which I have?
00:24:09.400And sincere vocations that you are there to serve the Lord.
00:24:12.660As the people were called, they came here as missionaries.
00:24:15.780Very tough situation, and they conquered.
