00:00:13.400 And in it, Eric and I take you through the dark history of feminism,
00:00:17.240 what it's done to everything from politics to church life to the economy,
00:00:21.220 and what to do about it.
00:00:23.040 Pre-order it today at newchristendompress.com slash longhouse.
00:00:26.600 And as a thank you for pre-ordering, you'll get 10% off automatically.

00:00:35.500 Well, faithful listeners, I know that this will be heartbreaking for you all to hear,
00:00:39.520 but it is a dark week here at the King's Hall,
00:00:42.720 meaning we do not have a new main episode for your listening pleasure.
00:00:48.140 But are we going to leave you empty-handed?
00:00:50.060 No, that's not how you build a new Christendom.
00:00:52.280 You don't leave your listeners empty-handed.
00:00:54.540 No, you release for them some behind-the-scenes content that's previously unreleased.
00:00:58.860 So what we're going to do in this short episode here is give you a little bit of a flavor for
00:01:03.480 what it's like to be in the King's Hall private pub. All right, that's what our Patreon channel
00:01:08.960 really is. It gets you access to a special weekly after-hours show called Creatively
00:01:15.560 After Hours, in which we chat, we talk Twitter, we talk the water cooler talk,
00:01:22.760 We may, you know, sometimes expand on the topic from the episode, but mainly we just
00:01:26.780 have a good time and then we end with a toast like we were chatting at the bar of our local
00:01:30.800 Christian pub.
00:01:32.440 So that doesn't exist.
00:01:33.720 That doesn't exist yet.
00:01:36.140 So with that said, enjoy this formerly patron exclusive look at our After Hours show and
00:01:43.400 we hope it is enjoyable for your listening pleasure.
00:01:46.700 Welcome to the King's Hall After Hours. I am host number one. My name is Flava Flav.
00:01:56.540 Did you say host number one?
00:01:57.700 Host number one. First show, but last.
00:01:59.580 Flava Flav!
00:02:00.800 Flava Flav!
00:02:01.880 Oh, man.
00:02:03.080 Do you guys remember Flava Flav?
00:02:04.140 Yeah, back in my days where I was not very...
00:02:08.140 Righteous.
00:02:08.940 Christian.
00:02:09.440 Righteous. That'd be great.
00:02:10.960 I was going to say.
00:02:11.440 When it was like MTV.
00:02:12.980 Or have good taste.
00:02:14.160 What show was that? Man, I can't remember. It was...
00:02:16.340 Actually, it's better that I don't remember.
00:02:18.260 So we got Flava Flav.
00:02:19.980 We've got Heavy D on mic two.
00:02:22.560 Heavy D.
00:02:23.800 Heavy D Burks.
00:02:25.340 That hurts my feelings.
00:02:26.520 Heavy D.
00:02:27.100 You told me that was your nickname.
00:02:28.920 Yeah, I wanted to be a rapper when I was in high school.
00:02:32.940 Eminem was like, oh, yeah.
00:02:34.600 Did you really?
00:02:35.560 No, I didn't.
00:02:36.480 Not at all.
00:02:37.940 Okay, I was going to make fun of you.
00:02:39.400 I didn't know.
00:02:40.740 Heavy D coming on the mic at y'all.
00:02:43.660 Going to let you know.
00:02:45.120 Sorry.
00:02:45.760 What just happened?
00:02:46.980 Eric don't stand real tall, but he's a short king and he's looking real fine.
00:02:52.260 I'm sorry, After Hours listeners.
00:02:55.040 They're like, what just happened?
00:02:55.960 That was all Dan.
00:02:56.600 So mic number three, we've got, what's Brian's?
00:03:01.520 Oh, the sweet psalmist of Ogden.
00:03:03.840 So Brian is so sweet and such a psalmist that he has to autograph things for small children.
00:03:10.080 Look, it was so cute I couldn't say no.
00:03:13.320 I couldn't say no.
00:03:14.080 but listen guys we're gonna have a competition via twitter submit your best new nickname for me
00:03:20.940 that doesn't make me sound gay all right everybody ready that's what i'd like i'm counting on an even
00:03:26.040 gayer nickname i will refuse to answer it forever you didn't choose this one no i didn't it's much
00:03:32.020 like election nicknames you never choose it was chosen for you if you try to choose your own 0.88
00:03:35.960 nickname you're probably like a loser if you're like everybody call me everybody call me heavy d 0.87
00:03:44.520 It's kind of lame. 0.98
00:03:45.200 No, you need someone to come up to you and be like, what's up, Heavy D?
00:03:47.180 Oh, you mean like Fat Dan?
00:03:48.500 And then it sticks, you know?
00:03:50.280 Yeah, exactly.
00:03:51.080 That's what happens when you try it.
00:03:52.120 It always backfires.
00:03:53.140 So, look, help me out, listeners.
00:03:55.840 Help me out.
00:03:57.260 So, Brian, I wanted to give just a little bit of recap what we've been up to.
00:04:01.620 We were at County Before Country last week.
00:04:05.100 Has some good experiences.
00:04:07.440 But I kind of wanted to get your thoughts, weigh in on a few things,
00:04:10.340 A few positive takeaways that I thought was pretty cool.
00:04:14.720 Number one, I love air conditioning.
00:04:17.580 Air conditioning is one of the greatest evidences of post-millennialism.
00:04:22.520 I think I agree with you.
00:04:24.480 And after, it was funny.
00:04:26.100 So the backstory is the conference didn't have, it broke.
00:04:29.340 The compressor for their large warehouse church broke literally the day before the conference.
00:04:33.840 So there was nothing they could do.
00:04:34.820 It wasn't their fault.
00:04:35.740 But it was like record heat.
00:04:37.020 It was like, it was like the fourth circle.
00:04:39.760 There was like people passing out. Yeah. My wife at one point was like helping a 17 week pregnant
00:04:45.360 lady, taking her back. Like you should drink some water here. Let's cool you down. So you don't get 1.00
00:04:50.320 hospitalized, you know, that kind of thing. I was sweating and the stage was a little higher.
00:04:54.460 So, you know, I'm going up there to lead worship and it's hotter. Heat rises. It's hot. It's hot
00:05:00.500 when you're on the stage, when you're the main event. I was not the main event at any point,
00:05:04.820 but i did lead worship so it was hot i was sweating out my arm holes i was just dripping
00:05:11.900 well i knew like your sleeves oh your pits yeah those aren't arm holes here's the background of
00:05:18.520 that is that my climbing partner was like a redneck hillbilly guy and he would always say
00:05:23.020 that but with like a i'm sweating out my arm holes up here so i always say that now and i give no
00:05:28.580 context so people think i'm dumb anyway moving on dan thinks that anyway um one of the things though
00:05:34.140 I realized it was hot.
00:05:36.260 This is like day two.
00:05:37.960 I'm wearing like business cash, like, you know, a coat and a tie.
00:05:42.000 And I have my khakis on, and I've sweated through my khakis on my calves.
00:05:48.060 Yeah, who sweats through khakis on your calves?
00:05:50.180 That's how disgustingly hot it is.
00:05:51.780 Do calves even sweat? 0.75
00:05:53.020 Apparently.
00:05:53.680 Eric's does.
00:05:55.040 Eric's calves sweat.
00:05:56.000 Yeah, Eric was also the first day, so he's like wearing his full suit jacket, tie.
00:06:01.240 I wore a jacket and, like, a button-up shirt full-on.
00:06:05.020 Doug gets up there.
00:06:06.200 Doug Wilson gives his first lecture, and he's like, two observations.
00:06:10.240 Number one, it's hot.
00:06:11.600 And number two, I am wearing a jacket, but that's just because I'm stubborn.
00:06:15.780 And if I pass out, you will find out how stubborn.
00:06:18.680 It's like, yep, that was a Doug-ism right there.
00:06:21.540 It was hot.
00:06:22.600 I wore a coat for two days.
00:06:24.520 Yeah, you're a real Chad.
00:06:25.820 The third day, I wore shorts and a T-shirt, and it was like thunderstorms and cold.
00:06:29.220 Yeah, I wore a T-shirt the second day and the third day.
00:06:32.420 Yeah.
00:06:32.960 So one of the things I wanted to point to I thought was cool from the conference,
00:06:36.560 kind of a good takeaway for me was just the networking,
00:06:39.880 kind of seeing some of the cool things happening in Christendom,
00:06:42.660 a lot of people building things different ways.
00:06:45.600 But it was interesting, Brian.
00:06:47.000 Maybe this was my overall takeaway.
00:06:49.560 And call me a lover of Ogden in Refuge Church.
00:06:52.860 I will.
00:06:53.460 But I walked away, and I had – normally you go to a conference,
00:06:56.460 and you're like, oh, I wish we had this where we were.
00:06:59.220 you know, back home. And I went to that conference and I was like, you know what? I'm actually really
00:07:02.720 grateful for my people, my place and Refuge Church. Really excited. And I think maybe that's
00:07:09.020 where we'll go with some of this. Really excited to talk about kind of what we've got going on here
00:07:13.340 and why it's become so special to all of us. Yeah. Yeah. And a lot of the questions that you
00:07:19.480 and I were getting from different listeners and podcast listeners, people listening to the music
00:07:24.480 and kind of keeping tabs on what we're doing here on Ogden, just basically overall, they wanted to
00:07:29.200 know like tell us more tell us about your singing you guys talk about singing a lot tell us about
00:07:33.680 the school tell us about the community what like you guys talk as if ogden is this utopia which
00:07:40.400 it's not a utopia there's tons of work to do but we genuinely love it here i someone could come in
00:07:47.880 and say eric i'm gonna give you a you know big paycheck come pastor our mega church and i would
00:07:54.560 do it. I mean, what? He's like, how much is the paycheck? That backfired on me, guys. I'm not
00:08:01.320 going to lie. No, it's just, I don't think any of us would say, I'd be like, no, thanks.
00:08:05.660 Yeah, we're not leaving. Because what the Lord has done here is, I mean, for us, it's like it's
00:08:13.120 day to day, but I meet people all the time and they're like, no. They start describing their
00:08:18.380 situation. They start describing five. They've looked everywhere. They're trying to find a church,
00:08:21.600 communities um not thick like they're not singing the psalms they're not educating children there's
00:08:29.660 just there's uh we're really thankful like i just am very thankful yeah some of them don't even have
00:08:35.860 like the basic things of like you know some deep friendships yeah no friendships no there's no
00:08:41.400 church discipline happening in my church there's no you know the text is never applied to life it's
00:08:45.180 just, you know, so. In 2023, Indigo Sundries became one of our sponsors. At the time, their
00:08:57.800 business was little more than a side hobby, generating a couple hundred dollars a month.
00:09:01.780 But because of their partnership with us, and because all of you chose to support them,
00:09:05.280 they've grown enough to make it their full-time livelihood. This is what happens when Christians 1.00
00:09:08.720 support Christians. Our communities are strengthened and faithful businesses thrive.
00:09:12.520 So if you're a Christian business owner who wants to reach thousands of like-minded people and grow your company, we'd love to partner with you.
00:09:19.100 Email us at advertising at newchristendompress.com.
00:09:28.240 It's been really good.
00:09:29.360 Yeah.
00:09:29.520 One of the things I thought was cool was we got a lot.
00:09:33.220 One of our Patreon supporters, Brian, not Brian Sauve. 0.98
00:09:38.060 Not the sweet salmist of Ogden.
00:09:39.400 uh brian was uh saying yeah like we we you guys should you know do a conference love to come to
00:09:45.240 it um i think that you know definitely was on the tip of my brain like we should we should do
00:09:50.320 something we should have ac yeah we should um we should have ac we'll tell we'll we'll tag michael
00:09:55.240 would be like michael you share our conference it's like counting for country with ac he actually
00:10:01.160 joked that that was going to be next year's marketing for counting hilarious like counting
00:10:04.440 before country 2023 this year with air conditioning and i was like i you should you should have county
00:10:10.160 before country 2023 formerly the hottest conference in batavia ohio but i think it would actually be
00:10:16.460 funny if they did it with ac but this time just like go as cold as you too cold and then the next
00:10:21.620 year like you have to keep coming back until you get the perfect yeah that's genius keep people
00:10:26.740 yeah we're you know what we walked away we said let's do a conference we said let's do a king's
00:10:31.060 conference let's do a new christendom conference here in ogden so stay tuned patrons here like i
00:10:37.220 don't think anyone knows about new christendom we're in the family here oh well that was what
00:10:41.260 you call an easter egg whoa big idea that was smart dan was like in business school and whatnot
00:10:49.400 so he dan knows about easter eggs yeah if you knew anything about business school you would not
00:10:54.040 associate smart it was just it was great to go to the bars oh you know for others for other
00:11:00.900 business students yeah not dan not me no not dan ever never would i have a drink or anything like
00:11:08.520 that so brian i want to ask you about one thing that we talked about you you mentioned in the
00:11:12.400 service uh josh dawes on twitter shared this okay and it was uh g shane morris our guy yeah
00:11:18.300 and uh shane morris like i was actually impressed he was ripping this to shreds but he said quote
00:11:24.440 the church has got to stop countenancing this ridiculous attitude that just praising natural
00:11:29.200 institutions and helping people take part in them is idolatry yeah um we've seen a lot of this
00:11:34.900 lately um you had some comments on sunday about loving sci-guy oh yeah not idolatry
00:11:44.040 what is i guess unpack for me what what's the issue what do you first of all what do you see
00:11:48.520 culturally happening yeah and why why address it in the way that you did yeah in the sermon
00:11:54.520 I was explaining about just being gone for the last few days and how I'd seen a picture of my
00:12:01.440 my dude cyril and his big moon pie face because he's just got a he inherited uh from the sove
00:12:08.500 gene pool from my father's side my dad has a perfectly round head uh very handsome dad if
00:12:14.600 you're ever listening to this very handsome he inherited that moon pie face and I just saw his
00:12:19.880 two-year-old moon pie face, and I was like, I want to go home. I love my boy. And what I was
00:12:24.500 thinking as I was preparing for the sermon this Sunday was there are lots of parts of Christian
00:12:31.320 culture where there's this tendency that Gregory Shane Morris was pointing at to essentially call
00:12:36.980 all normal natural affections idolatry. And we're always talking about the idolatry of the family,
00:12:41.860 idolatry of children. And look, you can get your loves disordered with anything,
00:12:47.660 but what it can tend to make people feel like is God is up there looking at me as I see this
00:12:55.520 picture of my son and go, I really love my boy. I just want to hug my boy. I want to see him.
00:13:02.080 I want to chat with him. I want to hear all of his funny jokes, his two-year-old talk,
00:13:06.320 chatter. I'm already thinking idolatry. Just love him. And it's as if God's up there going,
00:13:11.080 repent like as if god is insecure he can't handle me loving my my son when in reality
00:13:19.300 that is supposed to be pedagogical it's supposed to be um there's supposed to be a something i
00:13:25.020 learned from my love for my boy and how intense that love is i'm supposed to learn what it means
00:13:30.600 when the lord jesus more well when jesus says pray our father yeah heaven and and then so i'm
00:13:38.480 supposed to refer to God as my father. And you have a reference point now. Yeah. And I'm going,
00:13:43.100 I understand on some small level what the love of the father is because of how intensely I love my
00:13:48.800 boy. Now, of course I should love my primal love should be my love for the love, the Lord, your
00:13:54.120 God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. But, but Jesus actually said, you can sum up the
00:13:58.560 whole law just in saying, love your neighbor as yourself. Yeah. That's really interesting. Um,
00:14:03.160 so I had the chance to spend some time with Aaron Wren, uh, wrote in actually to the conference
00:14:07.880 with him and so we were talking about this
00:14:10.300 and I asked him what he thought about it and he said
00:14:12.140 you know, it just strikes me
00:14:14.420 that this whole, everything is idolatry
00:14:16.380 any desire is tantamount
00:14:18.240 to idolatry. He said
00:14:19.900 it's almost identical to Buddhism
00:14:21.740 where you have to be emptied 0.76
00:14:24.280 of all desire
00:14:25.140 good and bad, so like the state of nirvana
00:14:28.300 is zero desire. And I always
00:14:30.320 ask people that are Buddhists, do you desire to get 1.00
00:14:32.260 to that state of zero desire? 1.00
00:14:35.580 What do they
00:14:36.280 say what do they one time i was in this is a total derailing one time i was in a philosophy
00:14:41.620 of religion class and weber state university and uh they were talking about buddhism and that exact 0.98
00:14:46.760 concept and i was like i raised my hand i said why don't they just kill themselves 0.90
00:14:49.980 because it seemed like that'd be the quickest way boom they were very offended really i will 0.91
00:14:56.140 not lie to you i think it's the most offended anybody was ever at me in the uh anyway keep
00:15:02.380 going sorry it's actually quite understandable but yeah you you really do you get to this point
00:15:05.840 where it's like, you know,
00:15:07.620 the goal is everything that you desire is bad,
00:15:09.720 so just don't have desires.
00:15:11.160 But that's actually not,
00:15:12.580 that actually wouldn't be Christian love either.
00:15:14.280 No.
00:15:14.760 We'd not be loving our neighbor 1.00
00:15:15.840 if we said, Cygai, I feel nothing.
00:15:18.380 I look at my son and I feel indifference
00:15:22.060 because I'm holy.
00:15:24.140 Yeah, and even the, sort of the,
00:15:26.580 sort of the Gnostic pietism
00:15:29.320 that's been in the church where, you know,
00:15:31.800 you're like, oh yeah, husband,
00:15:33.520 you love your wife?
00:15:35.240 well, you should not because she's going to die 0.92
00:15:37.620 and you're going to be an eternity.
00:15:38.840 And it's like, okay, well,
00:15:40.220 just go read the song is all of it again one more time.
00:15:42.840 The natural family is going to be destroyed.
00:15:46.080 And I'm like, well, actually,
00:15:48.460 even when type gives way to substance,
00:15:51.140 it's always greater.
00:15:53.900 It's not a...
00:15:54.580 It's not lesser.
00:15:55.320 It's not lesser than...
00:15:56.520 It will be an intensification of the goodness
00:15:58.740 of the original thing.
00:16:00.260 So just because in heaven,
00:16:02.340 were neither married nor given in marriage.
00:16:05.220 It's not that marriage is going to be lame.
00:16:06.980 It's that there will be such an intensification
00:16:08.940 of what marriage was about in the first place
00:16:11.200 that it will be even more, to use my trademarked word,
00:16:16.760 glorious.
00:16:17.920 Glorious.
00:16:18.860 Glorious, listeners.
00:16:20.100 And to use my trademark sound.
00:16:22.840 That's huge.
00:16:23.980 And to use Dan's trademark sound.
00:16:27.720 That was it.
00:16:28.860 That's the sound.
00:16:29.860 That's funny.
00:16:30.360 Silence.
00:16:30.920 That was it.
00:16:31.380 That's actually the sound.
00:16:32.480 By the way, Dan, I think this is important.
00:16:35.320 One of the things we've striven, striven, strove?
00:16:38.040 Striveden.
00:16:38.800 Striveden.
00:16:39.800 So we striveden.
00:16:41.040 Striveden.
00:16:41.640 We striveden to do in this podcast is just be all inclusive.
00:16:47.160 And one of the things I feel like we need to correct is we did get to meet Noah Alvarenga.
00:16:53.360 We did.
00:16:54.080 Oh, why are you talking to me?
00:16:55.860 I was not there.
00:16:56.780 I did not meet Noah.
00:16:57.980 We needed a retraction.
00:16:59.820 Yeah, well, Dan is not playing nicely in the sandbox, so, yeah.
00:17:04.700 I'm just going to go back to it.
00:17:05.380 Okay, Brian.
00:17:07.320 Excuse me.
00:17:08.420 Member role.
00:17:09.440 Yeah, I'm sorry, Dan.
00:17:10.580 I was under the illusion you were participating in this conversation.
00:17:13.560 So, anyway.
00:17:15.580 It is an illusion.
00:17:16.620 It is an illusion.
00:17:17.580 Thank you, Dan.
00:17:18.960 Noah was there, and we had actually, Brian, that's not me.
00:17:23.200 When you say we, you mean me.
00:17:25.360 Very loudly and confidently.
00:17:26.320 Someone made the assumption that Noah was a Mexican. 0.99
00:17:29.580 Look at him.
00:17:30.760 Well, here's the deal.
00:17:32.860 Noah is actually Colombian in El Salvadoran.
00:17:35.380 I mean, let's be honest here.
00:17:38.040 You thought he was Mexican?
00:17:39.980 Yeah. 0.88
00:17:40.560 Mexican, okay. 0.98
00:17:41.220 Let's be honest here. 1.00
00:17:42.220 I mean, how dare you?
00:17:42.960 Are they different?
00:17:44.420 How dare you?
00:17:46.140 I mean, they do all kind of look the same, but here.
00:17:48.820 One has chalupas and one has cocaine.
00:17:50.720 It is at this point where I would like to absolve myself
00:17:54.200 from any associations with the King's Hall.
00:17:58.760 Okay.
00:17:59.300 It's after hours, Dan.
00:18:00.060 Duly noted.
00:18:00.760 It is not.
00:18:03.340 It really is.
00:18:04.400 It is.
00:18:04.600 So, yeah, Noah had his, he had his, they were actually not Pit Vipers.
00:18:10.400 They weren't name brand?
00:18:11.880 Well, they were a name brand.
00:18:13.580 Blenders?
00:18:14.240 I can't remember.
00:18:15.260 Yeah.
00:18:16.280 That is a brand, and it has a name.
00:18:18.040 It's a name brand. 0.93
00:18:18.520 Pit Vipers were actually, he said the company is kind of like pro-gay. 1.00
00:18:22.580 Oh, okay. 0.63
00:18:23.280 So, yeah, can't be supporting that.
00:18:24.880 I can't be doing that.
00:18:25.660 Columbia Boy Summer can't be supporting that.
00:18:27.780 Columbia Boy Summer.
00:18:28.800 Yeah, so naturally, he commented on Facebook about being from Columbia.
00:18:33.820 So, I sent him a GIF of Pablo Escobar.
00:18:38.320 Also from Columbia. 0.97
00:18:39.440 Also Colombian.
00:18:40.600 Plato or Plumas, you know, silver or lead. 0.97
00:18:43.580 Yeah, you got it.
00:18:44.860 I am trying to respect him.
00:18:45.780 You are winsome, Eric.
00:18:47.080 And nuanced.
00:18:47.660 You make friends.
00:18:49.080 You keep friends.
00:18:50.120 What is the point of this?
00:18:52.320 The point is, we're in the pub right now.
00:18:54.380 We're in after hours.
00:18:55.120 We're chatting.
00:18:55.780 Dan's not.
00:18:56.420 We're just chatting.
00:18:57.180 He's on another planet.
00:18:58.380 We're chatting about mutual interests.
00:19:00.220 Noah is a mutual interest of Eric and mine.
00:19:02.940 Mutual interests.
00:19:04.320 He's a friend.
00:19:05.600 He's going to be so stoked that we set the record straight. 0.99
00:19:08.320 Mexican white boy summer. 0.97
00:19:09.560 I mean, Colombian, whatever.
00:19:11.120 Yeah, he is.
00:19:12.420 Mexico.
00:19:12.820 You guys know how to make friends.
00:19:14.080 I'll just say that.
00:19:14.600 The last thing.
00:19:15.840 The last thing, Dan.
00:19:17.180 what that we're going to talk about
00:19:19.080 is a tweet from
00:19:20.480 Brian. Now, I have to clarify at the conference
00:19:23.300 everyone asked me, how do you say his name?
00:19:25.780 And I said, it's
00:19:27.120 Suave. Oh, boy.
00:19:28.920 Yes. Rico Suave. Yes.
00:19:30.860 You know what I said when people asked me?
00:19:33.820 I said, here's how my friend Dan
00:19:35.120 Burkholder explains it. It's Brian
00:19:36.960 Suave like so gay. 1.00
00:19:38.920 That was Matt Halverson. 1.00
00:19:40.760 Was it really? Yeah.
00:19:42.120 It really was.
00:19:44.440 Because he was mispronouncing it and I was like, 0.93
00:19:46.500 No, it's actually so gay. 0.98
00:19:48.200 And he's like, so gay? 1.00
00:19:49.780 Yeah, I need to retract. 0.78
00:19:51.760 County Before Country listeners, the people I told that, it wasn't Dan, it was Matt Halper.
00:19:54.540 So my wife, it was funny, at Grace Agenda, it was last year.
00:19:58.280 I wasn't there.
00:20:00.960 I wasn't.
00:20:01.500 I just thought I would make that point since you made your point earlier.
00:20:04.900 I apologize.
00:20:06.320 I was insensitive.
00:20:07.320 Yo!
00:20:08.120 Okay.
00:20:08.820 I like this reconciliation.
00:20:10.400 She did the same thing.
00:20:11.420 I absolutely do not forgive you.
00:20:13.380 Amelia went around and whenever, you know, people go, great friends.
00:20:16.860 She's like, oh, we're from Ogden.
00:20:18.220 Oh, yeah.
00:20:18.800 You're like Brian Suave's church.
00:20:21.060 Is that how you say it?
00:20:22.000 And Amelia would say, yes.
00:20:24.300 Yes.
00:20:24.680 Yes.
00:20:24.880 It's Suave.
00:20:25.660 It is Suave. 1.00
00:20:26.860 Like Rico.
00:20:27.480 So most of Moscow, Idaho believes that my name is pronounced Suave.
00:20:31.060 And actually, to be fair, I can say this because she doesn't listen.
00:20:35.020 She's also not a patron.
00:20:36.560 Yeah. 1.00
00:20:36.860 Well, so she gets no benefits and perks. 0.93
00:20:39.880 The thing is.
00:20:40.860 She gets one of our core members.
00:20:44.200 Yes, well, that.
00:20:45.080 But here's the deal.
00:20:46.260 Obviously, the favorite, too.
00:20:46.860 When we were leaving for the conference,
00:20:49.020 it was actually Amelia who told me to tell everyone.
00:20:51.620 Yes.
00:20:52.780 Hey, you know what suave means in Mexican?
00:20:56.600 Smooth. 0.95
00:20:57.240 It means smooth.
00:20:58.080 Yeah.
00:20:58.900 Yeah, so I mean, I'll take it.
00:21:00.420 Is there a Mexican language?
00:21:02.800 Rico suave is Mexican.
00:21:04.000 Mexican. 0.99
00:21:04.280 You know.
00:21:06.360 This whole time, I thought I was under the illusion that it was Spanish.
00:21:11.080 No, it's Mexican.
00:21:13.000 Suave, smooth on Espanol. 1.00
00:21:15.160 Se dice suave.
00:21:15.720 What does it mean in French?
00:21:17.640 Well, suave isn't a word in French, but sove means saved.
00:21:21.920 It's a past participle of the verb savoir, meaning to save.
00:21:25.580 Yeah, salvation.
00:21:26.920 So my name, Brian Asove, if you pronounce my middle initial as a word,
00:21:31.500 is the sentence, Brian, is saved.
00:21:33.420 Actually, that's false, because in French, suave means agreeable.
00:21:39.580 S-U-A-V-E?
00:21:41.200 S-A.
00:21:42.160 I looked it up.
00:21:42.920 I thought it was saved.
00:21:44.100 Oh, S-U-A means that.
00:21:45.620 Yes.
00:21:45.840 Oh, I didn't even know it was a word.
00:21:47.300 Sensation.
00:21:48.660 You know what?
00:21:49.360 This is in French.
00:21:50.160 Never mind.
00:21:52.100 Wow.
00:21:52.660 I was almost thrown for my whole life.
00:21:56.880 Yeah.
00:21:58.340 It's been a very educational show.
00:22:00.160 It really has.
00:22:01.040 and the thing that I think is
00:22:02.860 that if I could just say the best
00:22:04.940 reason to sign up for Patreon
00:22:06.780 is to hear us
00:22:09.100 this content
00:22:10.820 this is the prime content
00:22:12.840 there is a word, it's suave qui
00:22:14.600 peyute
00:22:16.560 or whatever
00:22:17.320 it means panic
00:22:20.040 suave qui peu
00:22:24.400 I think it means panic in the disco
00:22:26.860 I like peyute better, it's closer to your
00:22:28.920 other people
00:22:29.460 Widespread panic
00:22:32.000 Widespread panic
00:22:34.780 I've never heard that
00:22:35.900 You know what, that must be one of those
00:22:37.500 So like there's idioms
00:22:38.520 In French
00:22:39.920 You're an idiom
00:22:40.820 What an intelligent remark
00:22:44.540 In French, if you want to say step on it 0.76
00:22:47.940 You know, like when you're in a car
00:22:49.100 Step on it, go faster
00:22:50.620 They say
00:22:51.360 What does that mean?
00:22:54.400 They pick something faster to say
00:22:56.140 I know, right? It's long
00:22:57.540 it means literally step on the mushroom because in french cars the gas pedal looked kind of like
00:23:03.760 a mushroom so they would say if you literally translate i bet that means something even
00:23:09.340 design a gas pedal correctly my word the frame a mushroom my heritage their food though i mean
00:23:16.980 am i right let's be honest pretty good i mean have you heard of a croissant before i have i
00:23:22.340 look like one. Flaky and
00:23:24.260 buttery. Croissant instead of your
00:23:26.080 croissant. No, I'm not one of those guys.
00:23:28.540 It's not like, look, I don't go to restaurants
00:23:30.560 and go, hi, I
00:23:32.320 would like to have some of the steak
00:23:34.440 quesadillas. And if you
00:23:36.300 can you bring me some extra tortillas
00:23:38.080 because I would like some carne asada.
00:23:41.100 No, don't be
00:23:42.280 that guy. Just say carne asada.
00:23:44.320 Say tortillas. You're white. 1.00
00:23:46.180 But think about French culture.
00:23:47.600 I often do. Go on. They gave us
00:23:49.820 the Pink Panther.
00:23:51.840 The Pink Panther came from French culture.
00:23:54.160 Did it really? 0.91
00:23:54.900 Yeah.
00:23:55.320 I didn't know that.
00:23:56.100 It's French.
00:23:57.460 Clouseau?
00:23:58.160 I mean, come on. 0.84
00:23:58.940 Le Grosse Panther.
00:24:00.520 I don't know how to say panther, so. 0.99
00:24:02.420 He's not French.
00:24:03.360 He's Indian. 1.00
00:24:03.840 Le, le, le, le, le, le. 1.00
00:24:07.780 I was actually going to read a tweet from Brian before this nonsense got off the rails.
00:24:13.780 What was this?
00:24:14.520 This has been the best part of the show.
00:24:16.640 Easily.
00:24:17.220 Oh, yeah.
00:24:17.580 Thank you, Dan.
00:24:18.380 Thank you.
00:24:18.980 Yeah.
00:24:19.160 One of the most gross stunting lies you can believe is that honoring others
00:24:22.820 and helping them succeed is going to somehow hurt or hinder you.
00:24:26.680 Competition can be godly, friendly, and helpful.
00:24:29.520 A feature of healthy masculinity but arrogant Babel building is self-harming folly. 0.87
00:24:37.520 Babel, Babel, look at me now. 0.97
00:24:39.800 In the walls of my town, they come crumbling down.
00:24:44.100 Mumford and Sons, thank you.
00:24:45.560 You said it like the song.
00:24:46.940 That's why I said that.
00:24:47.660 So I just thought I'd sing that for you.
00:24:49.540 Well, because I'm part English.
00:24:50.560 Also, we probably just got dinged by copyright or something on Patreon.
00:24:54.040 Definitely, definitely did not.
00:24:56.100 It sounded exactly like the song, Dan.
00:24:59.220 I actually thought it was the song.
00:25:02.100 Marcus Mumford's in studio.
00:25:04.080 Dan, talk about why it's so good for you to not compete for glory with Brian.
00:25:09.500 Well, I mean, we can't.
00:25:11.700 I can't compete, right?
00:25:12.980 That's what you were going to say.
00:25:14.600 Look at him.
00:25:15.380 Did you hear him sing?
00:25:16.960 I mean, come on.
00:25:18.040 No, the competition is good,
00:25:20.040 especially when your goal is total annihilation
00:25:23.180 and dominion with your friends.
00:25:25.600 Yes.
00:25:26.080 Yeah, that's good. 1.00
00:25:27.020 I will bury you. 0.99
00:25:27.800 Wait, you'll bury your friends? 1.00
00:25:31.340 I will bury you. 0.97
00:25:33.200 I am suddenly afraid.
00:25:34.540 King's Hall, after hours.
00:25:36.400 No, I think it's very masculine,
00:25:37.780 very natural and masculine. 0.54
00:25:39.060 I mean, if you get two men doing a task together,
00:25:42.520 say something like, I don't know, digging.
00:25:45.760 You can't help, even if it's unspoken,
00:25:48.720 looking over at the other person and going like,
00:25:51.180 dang, I better catch up.
00:25:53.220 I'm going to beat them.
00:25:54.360 It's just natural.
00:25:55.220 Hey, hey, and even better,
00:25:57.880 unnamed man at the stoplight next to you in another vehicle.
00:26:02.060 I mean, there is an inclination to where you want to beat them.
00:26:08.300 Yeah.
00:26:08.540 What if you're in a Ford Ranger?
00:26:11.580 If you're in a Ford Ranger,
00:26:12.940 I would recommend avoiding squawking your tires and getting a street racing ticket for that. 0.99
00:26:18.620 Okay, the best part is the narking, but we can't talk about it. 1.00
00:26:22.100 No, we can't talk about it. 1.00
00:26:23.880 We can't.
00:26:24.140 Okay, come to Ogden.
00:26:25.080 That might have to be edited out.
00:26:26.540 Come to our conference.
00:26:28.240 Come to our conference.
00:26:30.280 Buy us a beer, and we'll tell you the story that we're referencing right now.
00:26:33.420 Buy us a beer?
00:26:33.700 And it's hilarious.
00:26:34.820 Yes, buy us a beer.
00:26:35.560 It's worth it.
00:26:36.560 It's worth a beer.
00:26:37.580 It's definitely worth your beer.
00:26:38.640 Any of us will tell you about the squawking.
00:26:40.980 The main thing we want people to know, Dan, is they're missing out by not being here.
00:26:45.520 I think we can all agree on that.
00:26:47.720 But I'm not.
00:26:48.540 Is it?
00:26:48.940 You're not here?
00:26:49.820 I'm not missing out.
00:26:50.720 Oh, no, you're not missing out.
00:26:51.940 I was going to say, where are you?
00:26:53.100 Come to our hypothetical future conference.
00:26:55.300 No, so competition is healthy amongst men in a way.
00:27:00.100 So especially if you're for one another, that's obviously key.
00:27:04.840 If you are seriously in competition because of envy, that's poison.
00:27:09.660 Straight up poison.
00:27:10.980 Well, so I think it was one of my main takeaways from the conference, actually.
00:27:15.260 Michael is this talented guy.
00:27:17.440 He's done a lot of good things.
00:27:18.360 He's written a book.
00:27:19.480 His church is doing well.
00:27:21.260 But I think one of the things I admired most about what he did with the conference is he's really trying to give a lot of different guys the spotlight to expose each of us to the other people, to network.
00:27:34.380 And I think it's a good picture for the church.
00:27:36.160 we've had a lot of incidents in the especially reform baptist presbyterian camps both sides
00:27:41.820 involved in this there's bickering there's infighting but at the end of the day i really
00:27:46.860 like the attitude of hey we're actually trying to help each other yeah we're not trying to tear
00:27:50.900 each other down we're not trying to say your thing sucks because mine's great yeah um but
00:27:55.920 again i think the conference was a good showcase of there's a lot of good people doing a lot of
00:28:00.400 good work get to know them let's celebrate some of that work and there's enough glory to go around
00:28:05.900 Yeah. Glory is not a fixed pie. Yeah. It's not like if I honor Dan and Eric or if I honor Michael or if I honor Doug or whatever, that it's like, oh, there was 100% of glory. They took 3%. There's only 97 left. So you better know. It's like God, all of it comes from the father and all of it's redounds to the father. It's glory belongs to God.
00:28:27.420 But when we live like he does, he's a God who bestows glory on his creatures.
00:28:34.200 Man is the glory of God.
00:28:36.680 Then glory redounds.
00:28:38.540 It multiplies.
00:28:39.700 It shines.
00:28:41.100 So you get glory.
00:28:43.720 God gets glory ultimately, and you can honor.
00:28:47.500 And see glory land on lots of places,
00:28:49.020 this weighty goodness of a thing being at peace with what God made it to be and do.
00:28:54.160 Beautiful.
00:28:54.980 Is it?
00:28:56.020 It's deep.
00:28:56.720 You tell me, Dan.
00:28:57.560 What is it?
00:28:58.720 Glorious.
00:28:59.700 Glorious.
00:29:00.400 It's huge.
00:29:02.000 Speaking of huge, Dan, this episode has been huge.
00:29:05.620 It's been life-changing.
00:29:06.740 I think we can all agree.
00:29:07.560 Huge.
00:29:08.660 And so I want to close this episode.
00:29:11.620 And since it's after hours, we normally give a toast.
00:29:15.100 That's right.
00:29:16.100 We're not going to be toasting with Peat Monster because I'm now using that for a water bottle.
00:29:21.120 It's a bold move.
00:29:23.060 It tastes a lot like scotch.
00:29:24.780 Get a little peaty taste for the next thousand times you fill it up.
00:29:27.300 That's right.
00:29:28.000 Yeah.
00:29:28.540 But it's Berkey water, so it's okay.
00:29:30.140 It's fine.
00:29:30.760 We're going to be toasting with some Buffalo Trace bourbon.
00:29:33.360 Yeah, we're slumming it.
00:29:34.680 Some great whiskey from Kentucky.
00:29:36.760 Kentucky Straight Bourbon, actually.
00:29:38.980 One of the finest.
00:29:39.460 So, Dan, since you are in such a glorious, cheery mood, I would like to ask Dan.
00:29:45.940 Are you saying that I'm not in a cheery mood?
00:29:47.940 No, I'm saying you are, Dan.
00:29:49.600 No, I'm definitely not in a cheery mood.
00:29:51.000 No, you're definitely not.
00:29:53.040 Dan is the surly one of the bunch.
00:29:55.080 And so because he's so surly, I want to hear the most cheerful.
00:29:57.280 We should call him the sweet sirloin of Ogden.
00:29:59.100 That should be Dan.
00:29:59.760 The sweet sirloin?
00:30:01.400 Anyway, the surly sirloin of Ogden.
00:30:03.160 Okay, keep going.
00:30:04.180 Yes. 0.67
00:30:04.660 So anyway, surly sirloin.
00:30:05.940 Would you give us a toast befitting of kings?
00:30:11.700 We'll stand, boys.
00:30:12.440 Toast befitting of kings.
00:30:16.380 Dan Bryan just rips his mic.
00:30:17.880 I ripped my whole mic off the stand.
00:30:20.560 I'm ready.
00:30:21.120 King energy.
00:30:21.620 you may be ready but I am not
00:30:24.060 alright
