The Matt Walsh Show - Ep. 1244 - The Entertainment Industry Has Been Brainwashing Children For Years. It's Finally Time To Fight Back.

00:00:00.000 Today on the Matt Walsh Show, the entertainment industry has been brainwashing millions of children for years without any real resistance from conservatives.

00:00:05.920 Disney has been at the forefront of this indoctrination, of course, and the right hasn't done anything about it but complain.

00:00:10.820 But this week, that finally changed. We'll talk about it.

00:00:13.260 Also, Nikki Haley defends Palestinian refugees. Only half of them are terrorist sympathizers, she says.

00:00:18.040 A gun store employee is charged with murder after shooting a man who stole from the cash register.

00:00:22.420 And Gen Z thinks that it invented the concept of going for a walk. 0.80

00:00:25.720 We'll talk about all that and more today on the Matt Walsh Show.

00:00:30.000 Autumn is in full swing, which in my home means cozy nights in with my family.

00:00:59.660 These crisp autumn nights are made so much better thanks to my friends at Tommy John.

00:01:03.860 The perfect blend of comfort and breathability.

00:01:05.800 Tommy John loungewear has a level of softness I've never experienced before.

00:01:10.060 It's like it was designed to envelop you in a world of pure luxury, as I always say.

00:01:16.320 When you wear Tommy John, you're so much more comfortable that you can do everything better.

00:01:19.940 Even their underwear has dozens of comfort innovations.

00:01:21.980 Tommy John uses a breathable, lightweight, moisture-wicking fabric with four times the stretch of competing brands.

00:01:27.660 It can keep you seven degrees cooler than cotton.

00:01:30.400 With over 20 million pairs sold and thousands of five-star reviews, men across America are loving their Tommy Johns.

00:01:35.520 Every purchase is backed by Tommy John's best pair you'll ever wear.

00:01:47.360 See site for details.

00:01:49.240 The single most common refrain you've heard from conservative politicians for generations since Eisenhower is that the news media has a left-wing bias.

00:01:57.660 Long before Donald Trump went after fake news, Richard Nixon was telling his aides not to talk to the New York Times and the Washington Post.

00:02:03.840 Newt Gingrich insisted that he didn't read letters to the editor in newspapers because the editors were all leftists.

00:02:09.100 Bob Dole ignored questions about his views on tobacco because he didn't care what the, quote, liberal media thought.

00:02:14.460 Republicans have disparaged the media for so long because the media deserves it.

00:02:20.760 The vast majority of news outlets in this country are corrupt and partisan, and everybody knows it on both ends of the political spectrum.

00:02:27.140 So it's an easy target to hit over and over and over and over again.

00:02:32.000 The problem with this approach isn't that it's wrong.

00:02:35.040 I mean, it's correct.

00:02:36.300 They're right about what they're saying about the news media.

00:02:37.700 The problem is that it doesn't go nearly far enough.

00:02:40.940 It doesn't come close to addressing the extent of the bias, the ideological capture in American media.

00:02:48.200 Yes, corporate news media is propaganda from the New York Times to NBC to CNN and the Washington Post and so on.

00:02:54.040 We know that.

00:02:55.260 But the news media is just part of a much, much larger issue.

00:02:58.820 What conservatives almost never talked about for decades is that this bias also exists in other forms of media where it is, in fact, much more insidious and harmful, and most notably in children's programming.

00:03:12.620 You know, that's a much bigger deal than bias in mainstream news coverage for reasons that should be obvious.

00:03:17.720 Adults who are the primary audience for news coverage have more mature brains than children, at least some of us do.

00:03:24.100 They're generally capable of recognizing propaganda when they see it, or they should be capable of it anyway.

00:03:31.300 But children, for the most part, don't have that ability.

00:03:34.080 If Nickelodeon bombards them with non-binary characters, and if Disney hits them with a not-so-secret gay agenda, which they've admitted is their goal, then kids are totally vulnerable to it.

00:03:43.920 They're helpless.

00:03:44.320 And also, on top of that, entertainment, as opposed to news media, burrows deeper into the human soul and psyche.

00:03:54.300 It can shape you in ways that a CNN news segment simply cannot, much to CNN's chagrin.

00:04:02.100 Conservative politicians and other thought leaders somehow rarely seem to notice this problem for a long time.

00:04:08.100 With very few exceptions, they didn't say much about it.

00:04:10.840 But parents all over the country have been aware of what's going on for a while.

00:04:15.260 And that became especially clear to me a couple of weeks ago when I decided to do a monologue opening the show about LGBT propaganda in the show Paw Patrol, which is one of the most popular television shows for children.

00:04:27.840 And I went into some detail about Paw Patrol's newest writer, who's this creepy activist who makes sing-songy videos for kids about abortion and transgenderism. 0.83

00:04:37.460 And, you know, often in the past, when I have led the show with a topic like that, instead of, say, the war in Ukraine or now the war in Israel or the 50th Trump indictment or whatever, typically there's been some backlash.

00:04:50.400 You can usually count on a few people or more than a few to say that it's a silly topic and that grown men shouldn't pay attention to children's shows anyway.

00:04:58.220 And, of course, the left always says that because they don't want you talking about what they're doing to children.

00:05:03.400 They recognize how important it is.

00:05:04.880 They pretend that they don't because they don't want you to notice.

00:05:07.820 But historically, this has been the response from the right as well.

00:05:12.440 There have always been, you know, a decent number of conservatives who just don't want to hear about any topic that isn't a headline on cable news.

00:05:21.000 And meanwhile, their children, their own children, are being shaped and changed and transformed in front of them, under their nose, while they're only paying attention to whatever Fox News is talking about.

00:05:36.440 Now, this time, though, the reaction was very different from the norm.

00:05:39.400 I'm not going to go through all the comments that listeners and readers left about that monologue.

00:05:42.740 You can read them yourself, if you like, on the Daily Wire website.

00:05:45.340 But the consensus was pretty much unanimous.

00:05:46.920 People are completely fed up with the endless stream of propaganda that corporate media is directing at their children in the form of these kids' shows.

00:05:54.940 It's not just Paw Patrol.

00:05:56.060 I mean, it's everywhere.

00:05:56.960 It's everything.

00:05:57.660 There were hundreds of comments along these lines.

00:05:59.960 And many of them specified specific shows that have begun shoehorning left-wing agenda items into their plot lines.

00:06:07.740 A lot of shows that I've never heard of because, as I've said before, the vast majority of children's programming has just been ruled out completely in my house. 0.98

00:06:14.620 Either because it is left-wing garbage, or because it's just garbage, period. 0.97

00:06:19.440 It's terrible quality, and it'll make my kids dumber, and I don't want them watching it. 1.00

00:06:23.540 Or, oftentimes, it's a combination of the two.

00:06:26.060 And this is a problem that affects all children's programming these days, or almost all of it.

00:06:30.760 But no titan of children's entertainment has fallen in the public eye quite like the Walt Disney Company.

00:06:35.520 For generations, Disney made creative content for children that mirrored the values of their parents and their country.

00:06:41.240 They weren't making these tepid, lifeless, politically correct live-action remakes.

00:06:46.760 They were coming out with beautifully animated films, timeless stories like Snow White, The Lion King, Peter Pan.

00:06:53.740 But in recent years, Disney's objectives have changed.

00:06:56.520 And this is just not the same company that existed in the 20th century.

00:07:00.380 Not even close.

00:07:01.560 Things are now so bad that Disney recently signed an agreement to create propaganda films for China's Ministry of Culture,

00:07:07.680 which is a good fit, we have to admit, a radically left-wing company making propaganda for a communist government.

00:07:13.280 It is a match made in hell.

00:07:16.220 Meanwhile, in this country, without even attempting to hide what they're doing,

00:07:19.180 Disney has begun, and long ago began, a top-down effort to indoctrinate children into left-wing ideologies,

00:07:26.380 especially gender ideology, which invariably involves the sexualization of children.

00:07:31.920 This is now what Disney stands for at every level.

00:07:34.020 Last year, as you may remember, the journalist Chris Ruffeau published footage of Disney meetings

00:07:40.540 and what they were talking about behind the scenes, and they were very open about this agenda.

00:07:44.860 Here's one clip, if you didn't see it, of Disney corporate president Carrie Burke speaking in this virtual meeting with her colleagues.

00:07:51.120 And it's disturbing, but it shows just how ingrained this ideology is at Disney.

00:07:57.860 Watch.

00:07:58.120 I'm here as a mother of two queer children, actually, one transgender child and one pansexual child, and also as a leader.

00:08:13.020 And that was the thing that really got me because I have heard so much from so many of my colleagues over the course of the last couple weeks

00:08:20.740 and open forums and through emails and through emails and phone conversations.

00:08:25.180 And I feel a responsibility to speak, not just for myself, but for them, to all of us.

00:08:34.520 We had an open forum last week at 20th where, again, the home of really incredible groundbreaking LGBTQIA stories over the years,

00:08:45.260 where one of our execs stood up and said, you know, we only have a handful of queer leads in our content.

00:08:53.760 And I went, what?

00:08:55.340 That can't be true.

00:08:56.680 And I realized, oh, it actually is true.

00:09:00.340 We have many, many, many LGBTQIA characters in our stories, and yet we don't have enough leads.

00:09:11.880 We don't have enough.

00:09:13.300 It's never enough. 0.95

00:09:14.160 You know, nothing is ever gay enough for these people, especially this woman who claimed to have one child who is, quote, pansexual, 0.59

00:09:21.120 and another who identifies as, quote, unquote, transgender.

00:09:24.440 And if you have any basic understanding of statistics, you know exactly what that means.

00:09:28.020 I mean, there's just no way that one parent ends up with two kids who both just happen to identify this way.

00:09:36.300 What it means is this woman is foisting gender ideology on her own children, and she's proud of it. 1.00

00:09:40.680 She's happy that she programmed her kids this way, and now she wants to program yours as well.

00:09:47.460 That woman is not alone at Disney, as you might imagine. 0.92

00:09:49.760 Another video obtained by Rufo, a Disney executive producer, explained that she has a not-at-all-secret gay agenda

00:09:54.980 and regularly works on adding queerness to children's programming, and that's an infamous enough clip that we don't need to play it.

00:10:01.280 You've probably seen it by now, but it's infamous for a reason, and there are many more like it.

00:10:08.580 Though, in truth, you don't need to listen in on Disney's staff meetings to see what the company is doing.

00:10:12.760 You just watch their content.

00:10:13.980 The left-wing activists at GLAAD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, have been doing that,

00:10:19.240 and they've taken notice of Disney's activism.

00:10:21.180 They just praised Disney for adding, quote, LGBTQ content into more than 40% of their productions last year.

00:10:28.340 So this is overt LGBT indoctrination, even according to GLAAD, in 40% of the children's shows, just in one year.

00:10:36.460 And that beat out every other company except Netflix.

00:10:40.600 Netflix is still gayer than Disney.

00:10:42.400 Just by a hair, though.

00:10:44.400 It's important to note here that Disney, they're not simply trying to sexualize kids and hit them with LGBT propaganda,

00:10:52.780 which is bad enough on its own, obviously.

00:10:55.560 They're also trying to instill in them all of the values of the modern left to make them as insufferable and entitled as possible.

00:11:02.080 To that end, Disney hired a truly obnoxious woman to play Snow White in this upcoming feminist adaptation of the classic film. 1.00

00:11:10.380 I showed you some of her footage before.

00:11:11.820 It's hard to watch, so I'll spare you that as well.

00:11:14.360 Parents in this country see all this happening.

00:11:17.460 They don't need it explained to them anymore.

00:11:20.260 As Disney's perverse agenda has taken hold, a lot of these parents have been giving up on the whole brand.

00:11:26.260 Last year, Disney posted its worst stock return in 48 years, losing nearly half its value.

00:11:30.780 According to some analysts, Disney's attacks on conservative values have cost them roughly a billion dollars,

00:11:36.140 when you consider some of their recent box office returns, when they've just been putting out flop after flop after flop.

00:11:41.820 Now, to be clear, these numbers aren't simply a reflection of the poor quality of Disney's latest productions,

00:11:47.320 although it's certainly that as well.

00:11:48.880 Parents understand what Disney stands for.

00:11:51.140 And it's an ideology that parents don't want anywhere near their children.

00:11:55.700 There was a brand new survey from Rasmussen Reports recently, which the Daily Wire reported on,

00:11:59.500 which shows that as of late September, more than 60% of GOP voters view Disney unfavorably.

00:12:06.360 More than a third say they view Disney very unfavorably.

00:12:09.060 Now, these are staggering numbers, especially when you consider that the numbers are somehow even lower

00:12:15.100 than the favorability ratings of Bud Light, which has suffered maybe the single greatest collapse

00:12:20.160 of any brand in modern history.

00:12:21.800 But there is one unique advantage that Disney has enjoyed, despite its free fall in popularity,

00:12:29.520 and that's the fact that their brand of indoctrination is everywhere in children's media.

00:12:34.660 I mean, it's just totally ubiquitous.

00:12:37.660 With Bud Light, people could buy a different brand of beer.

00:12:41.400 With kids' content, that has been virtually impossible.

00:12:44.280 Whether you stick with Disney, or you go to Nickelodeon, or wherever else you go, 0.92

00:12:48.300 you're going to encounter the same garbage. 0.64

00:12:49.960 And so parents said, well, there's nowhere else, where else am I, there are no other options.

00:12:55.460 And that is all why, a little over a year ago, the Daily Wire announced our plans to invest

00:12:59.280 a minimum of $100 million over the next three years into a line of live action and animated

00:13:04.260 children's entertainment.

00:13:05.420 And with that decision, the Daily Wire became the only major media company that has ever decided

00:13:09.880 to do anything about the wholesale, all-encompassing, left-wing bias that has now infected every

00:13:16.660 aspect of children's media.

00:13:19.160 Yesterday, we delivered on that promise.

00:13:21.020 On the 100th anniversary of the day, Walt Disney founded his company.

00:13:24.360 The Daily Wire launched Bent Key, which is a brand new company with its own app.

00:13:27.940 You can go on your Apple TV, Google Play, Roku, Fire Stick, and download it right now.

00:13:32.060 There's 150 episodes available at the moment.

00:13:34.020 New ones coming out every Saturday morning as we resurrect the Saturday morning cartoon that

00:13:38.280 many of us grew up with.

00:13:40.380 There's even a new live action Snow White movie coming from Bent Key, featuring our very own

00:13:43.960 Brett Cooper, which will actually respect and stay faithful to the original fairy tale.

00:13:49.280 And of course, with all due respect to Brett Cooper, the biggest news, I think, is that I

00:13:53.940 make a key cameo appearance in one of our new animated children's shows called Chip Chilla.

00:13:59.360 I play a talking dinosaur toy, and this is incredible footage as well.

00:14:05.260 Watch this.

00:14:07.100 Yep.

00:14:08.280 Detecting nothing of interest on this planet.

00:14:13.920 You got that right, Brontor.

00:14:15.920 No way I will find anything valuable around here.

00:14:22.160 I shall defeat Captain Brontor, for he is weak, and I am less weak.

00:14:26.540 Punch! 1.00

00:14:27.100 Punch! 1.00

00:14:27.900 Yee-yah! 1.00

00:14:28.980 What?

00:14:30.220 Oh, no!

00:14:30.720 What a staggering and beautiful performance by me.

00:14:38.140 I only have one line, but I deliver it with such skill and force and artistry that it practically

00:14:43.440 brings you to tears.

00:14:45.520 This is what many people are saying anyway.

00:14:47.100 At least it's what I said when I watched that episode with my kids last night.

00:14:50.420 And I'll be honest that my daughter talked over my line, so I had to rewind it and play it again

00:14:55.920 and say, everyone be quiet for a second.

00:14:57.960 Listen to this.

00:14:58.760 And make sure everyone heard it.

00:15:01.900 Nobody in my living room reacted very much or seemed overly impressed with my performance,

00:15:08.720 but that's because they were stunned into silence.

00:15:12.060 I asked if they wanted to go back and watch the scene again.

00:15:14.040 They said no.

00:15:14.520 They wanted to watch another episode.

00:15:16.620 Probably because the performance was so powerful that they couldn't emotionally cope with witnessing

00:15:21.140 it again.

00:15:22.660 Anyway, aside from the one single line I contributed, I can report that the rest of the children's

00:15:26.800 content is truly terrific.

00:15:28.040 It's exactly what so many parents have been waiting for.

00:15:30.320 I'm not just saying that because I work here.

00:15:31.680 I'm saying that because I'm a father of six, and I'm one of those parents.

00:15:35.600 We spent a couple of hours last night as a family going through the app and watching different

00:15:38.920 shows.

00:15:39.480 The kids loved all of it.

00:15:40.440 I was personally very impressed.

00:15:41.780 Beautiful animation, good stories, conservative values, all the things.

00:15:44.840 Things that most modern children's entertainment lacks.

00:15:47.580 And when I say conservative values, I don't mean that the shows are political or that they

00:15:52.900 hit you over the head with right-wing ideology, which is usually, again, historically, when

00:15:57.760 conservatives get into entertainment, that's what it means.

00:16:00.040 It means that, listen, everyone, this is conservative.

00:16:03.360 Here's the conservative lesson.

00:16:04.720 Check it out, guys. 0.97

00:16:06.080 Just battering you over the head with a sledgehammer.

00:16:09.220 That's not the case here.

00:16:10.200 I mean that they are stories centered around timeless truths and virtues, courage, patience,

00:16:16.720 faithfulness, love of family, and so on.

00:16:19.260 These are conservative values.

00:16:21.340 They are the values that we're trying to conserve and that the modern entertainment industry has

00:16:25.320 been waging a war against for many years.

00:16:28.880 Now, this may seem like one long commercial for our kids' content, and I suppose it is,

00:16:32.560 but nobody told me I had to talk about this.

00:16:34.380 And I don't personally get paid when you subscribe to our children's platform.

00:16:37.720 I'm talking about it because I truly believe in it, and I think it's extremely important.

00:16:42.460 The fact that children's entertainment is entirely captured by the left is a, it's a

00:16:46.740 major problem.

00:16:48.640 And nobody has made any serious effort to do anything about it until now.

00:16:55.040 And I'm proud we're in that fight, one of many that we have picked as a company.

00:16:59.500 You know, we take a lot of flack here at The Daily Wire.

00:17:03.120 We get it from the left, as you would expect.

00:17:04.920 We're also attacked very frequently from the right.

00:17:08.580 Everybody has a gripe, a complaint, a nit to pick. 0.57

00:17:12.020 One minute we're far-right, fascist, bigot, extremist.

00:17:15.220 The next minute we're milquetoast establishment, leftist in disguise, depending on who you're 0.71

00:17:20.580 listening to.

00:17:21.860 Because people love to sit up in the bleachers at a distance and criticize.

00:17:27.400 Everyone has a criticism.

00:17:28.620 But we're down here in the arena taking the risks, trying to actually make a difference.

00:17:34.800 Don't always get it right.

00:17:36.320 Make mistakes sometimes.

00:17:38.100 Don't win every battle.

00:17:40.420 Okay, with the kids' content, it's fantastic.

00:17:43.220 It's amazing, I think.

00:17:44.300 Is it success guaranteed?

00:17:49.060 Not at all.

00:17:50.240 People need to support it.

00:17:51.120 If they don't, it could be a disastrous failure.

00:17:53.460 It could take the whole company down, given the amount of financial investment we've put

00:17:56.980 into it.

00:17:58.640 But it's worth the risk.

00:18:00.800 Because we're down here on the ground in the fight.

00:18:04.240 Which is the only place that I personally want to be.

00:18:07.580 Now let's get to our five headlines.

00:18:16.300 Grand Canyon University is an affordable, private Christian university based in Phoenix,

00:18:20.440 Arizona.

00:18:55.760 That's gcu.edu.

00:18:57.960 We began the five headlines yesterday with Ron DeSantis making the case against bringing

00:19:03.620 Palestinian refugees into this country.

00:19:06.700 And now Nikki Haley has chimed in with her take.

00:19:11.200 And her take, as expected, is completely wrong.

00:19:14.060 But here's what she told CNN.

00:19:15.920 Watch.

00:19:17.380 I want you to take a listen to this statement that Governor Ron DeSantis made about all, I

00:19:24.480 guess he's talking about all of the 2.3 million Palestinians.

00:19:28.720 He said this on the campaign trail in Iowa yesterday.

00:19:31.140 If you look at how they behave, not all of them are Hamas, but they are all anti-Semitic. 0.99

00:19:40.280 None of them believe in Israel's right to exist.

00:19:44.000 Now, just for our viewers' edification, according to a recent polling earlier this year from the

00:19:49.040 Washington Institute, which is a pro-Israel group, using the polling of a Palestinian Center

00:19:54.640 for Public Opinion, 62% of Gazans wanted the ceasefire with Israel to stay in place.

00:20:00.840 50% of Gazans want Hamas to stop calling for Israel's destruction, want Hamas to accept a

00:20:06.480 permanent two-state solution based on the 1967 borders.

00:20:09.840 70% of Gazans wanted the Palestinian Authority from the West Bank to take over Gaza.

00:20:15.540 So I'm not really certain that Governor DeSantis has a real read on the difference between Hamas

00:20:20.660 and the people of Gaza. What was your response when you heard what Governor DeSantis said?

00:20:26.500 You know, I dealt with this every day for two years. And, you know, what I can tell you is

00:20:31.560 you have to realize that whether we're talking about Gazans and Palestinians, you know, all of

00:20:38.160 them don't, you've got half of them at the time that I was there, didn't want to be under

00:20:43.180 Hamas' rule. They didn't want to have terrorists overseeing them. They knew that they were living a

00:20:48.240 terrible life because of Hamas. You had the other half that supported Hamas and wanted to be a part 0.99

00:20:53.200 of that. We see that with Iran. 0.85

00:20:54.940 Okay, so half of them wanted to be ruled by terrorists, according to Nikki Haley, half.

00:21:00.760 And to me, the headline is not that half don't want to be, okay? This classic glass half full or

00:21:07.820 half empty. And I think in this case, it's really the half empty approach is, the half empty perspective

00:21:14.060 is the one that we should be taking here. Because the headline is not that half don't want to be 0.96

00:21:17.880 ruled by terrorists, it's that half do want to be. And that's a large number. Okay, 50% is a big

00:21:24.680 number, which proves DeSantis' point. And how exactly do you separate the two? I mean, if you're opening up

00:21:31.540 the gates and you're letting in a flood of refugees from a place where half, at least, support a terrorist 0.96

00:21:37.420 group, then how do you know who belongs to which half? Do you take their word for it? It's like

00:21:44.280 going to eat at a burger joint where half of the hamburgers have mad cow disease. How do you discern

00:21:51.600 the diseased burgers from the safe ones? Well, what if the only way to do it is if the employees,

00:21:57.200 the employee does, I know that one's safe, you're fine. Even if there is a way to discern it,

00:22:01.980 is it worth the risk? The answer is no. And also, there's another point here as well,

00:22:08.760 which is that we're supposed to feel sorry for the half of people in Gaza who don't support Hamas.

00:22:16.740 And you also hear the claim that it's more than half. It's pointed out that in the clip we played

00:22:22.820 at DeSantis yesterday, he pointed out that Hamas was elected. And then the news anchor in that clip

00:22:28.680 said, well, yes, but that election was, what was it, 2006. It was many years ago. They haven't had

00:22:33.460 an election since then. And so they're under this oppressive rule. And maybe that's true.

00:22:40.420 And maybe there's an even larger number who don't want Hamas ruling over them, and they haven't had 0.76

00:22:45.880 a chance to have any kind of legitimate election in a long time. But if that's the case, then it is

00:22:52.940 your responsibility to throw off the tyranny. One way or another, the truth is that people get the

00:23:01.860 rulers they consent to. It's as simple as that. If you don't consent to being ruled by them,

00:23:09.060 then it's up to you to rise up and take them down.

00:23:11.900 Which isn't to say that someone can't really be a victim of tyranny. I mean, they can be.

00:23:21.360 But also, it falls only to you to band together. And if it's 50% of you, it's still big numbers,

00:23:31.360 to band together and free yourself. You have to do that. And if you don't, then you've consented.

00:23:38.900 You've consented to be governed this way. But it doesn't, again, it's all academic.

00:23:46.460 It doesn't matter how much blame you put on the citizens of Gaza. It doesn't make a difference.

00:23:55.560 The precise percentage who support Hamas versus don't support Hamas, that's not the point.

00:24:02.820 At least it shouldn't, that's not the point when it comes to American policy on this issue.

00:24:08.000 The point is that our responsibility is to protect our own people.

00:24:14.660 And look, no one can make the argument that it makes us safer as a country to bring in millions

00:24:21.860 of refugees from a place where a large percentage of them, whatever the percentage is, at least

00:24:27.440 support terrorism. Can anyone argue that it makes us safer? 0.89

00:24:32.040 If we fast forward the clock, six months, and we have 200,000 Gazan refugees in this country,

00:24:43.600 can anyone argue that we are now a safer country because of it? Of course, you can't make that

00:24:48.520 argument, which is reason enough not to do it. All right, Daily Wire has this report. The judge

00:24:52.880 presiding over special counsel Jack Smith's 2020 election case granted a gag order against former

00:24:57.860 president Donald Trump on Monday. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkin, an appointee of former

00:25:03.520 president Barack Obama, made the decision after hearing arguments at a federal courthouse in

00:25:07.000 Washington, telling Trump not to engage in a pretrial smear campaign against government staff,

00:25:12.300 their families, and witnesses. First Amendment protections yield to the administration of justice

00:25:17.120 and the protection of witnesses, Chutkin said. According to Politico, his presidential candidacy

00:25:21.560 does not give him carte blanche to vilify public servants who are simply doing their jobs.

00:25:26.220 Chutkin warned Trump, who was seeking a second term in the White House, that he could face sanctions

00:25:30.640 for violations that would include attacking court staff and prosecutors. The court, the judge declined

00:25:37.280 to restrict Judge Trump from criticizing the Biden administration or the Department of Justice

00:25:41.380 amid his claims that the prosecution is politically motivated. Well, wasn't that very nice of her?

00:25:47.980 He can still criticize the Biden administration, at least broadly speaking, as he's running against

00:25:57.320 the Biden administration. He's running against Biden. He's in a presidential race right now.

00:26:02.320 And yeah, you can still criticize your opponent, at least. I guess he's supposed to be grateful for

00:26:07.140 that. I mean, the fact that that even has to be said, the fact that that was even up for consideration

00:26:11.500 is crazy enough as it is. Chutkin also reportedly refrained on Monday from issuing limits on what Trump

00:26:16.980 could say about D.C. expressing confidence that the jury selection process will address any concerns.

00:26:22.760 During a speech in Iowa, Trump vowed to appeal the gag order, and a spokesperson for the former

00:26:26.820 president issued a statement calling the decision on Monday an absolute abomination, another partisan

00:26:31.100 knife stuck in the heart of our democracy, by crooked Joe Biden, who was granted the right to muzzle his

00:26:36.500 political opponent. And that pretty much sums it up. I think that's exactly right. That's exactly what's

00:26:41.900 happening here. This is obviously insane and unjust, you know, issuing a gag order to a former president

00:26:51.140 and a current presidential candidate. And look, I don't care what the arguments even are. I mean,

00:26:56.620 if you could justify it on some theoretical level, which I don't think you can, but that still would not

00:27:04.740 be good enough. Because the fact is that our whole system of government, as much as we hear about our

00:27:12.540 sacred system of government and how we have to protect our democratic system, and it's constantly

00:27:18.020 under attack and under assault where it's claimed. Well, you know, that whole, that system of government,

00:27:24.900 it rests on the faith the people have in it. None of this works if people don't have faith in the system.

00:27:36.380 If people don't believe in the system, if they don't believe in the validity and legitimacy of

00:27:41.320 the system, then it all falls apart. And when you do things like put a gag order on a presidential

00:27:49.540 candidate in the middle of a, of a campaign, I don't care how limited supposedly the gag order is,

00:27:57.180 doesn't matter. When you do that, it is, uh, it is another, what was the phrase, a knife in the heart

00:28:04.480 of our democracy. Yeah, that's basically what it is. And that's the case because, um, the, the reasoning

00:28:14.300 for the gag order to my mind is illegitimate, but also because of the, of, of what it does to the

00:28:20.120 trust and faith that people have in the system. And that, and that, again, that really does matter

00:28:24.020 because our whole system, if you don't have that, if people don't buy into it anymore, then you just

00:28:29.980 have the, the total collapse of, um, of, of our system. Once it is, once it is perceived as, as

00:28:39.480 illegitimate, then you have complete collapse. And then what happens from there? I mean, what

00:28:45.720 happened on January 6th is like a walk in the park compared to what happens from there. When you have

00:28:51.800 a total and complete collapse in the faith that people have in the system, it's almost as if this

00:28:58.100 is all, you know, that's, that's a feature rather than a bug. All right. ABC in Houston has a report

00:29:05.880 about an interesting case in their city. Uh, let's watch, uh, let's watch the report.

00:29:12.740 Gary Evans walks into the Carter's country gun store on June 21st, 2022 during the day,

00:29:19.100 goes straight for the cash register, opens the drawer and appears to be taking something out of

00:29:24.160 it. When a male and female employee appear, the man winger starts firing at Evans as he runs into

00:29:30.420 the parking lot. An autopsy showed he was hit twice and died. Prior to entering Carter's country,

00:29:37.300 Houston police say Evans had gone into a neighboring clothing store, attempted to steal and got into a

00:29:42.480 fight with employees. Within the last week, Winger was indicted by a grand jury on a murder charge.

00:29:48.840 Attorney Steve Shellest is not related to the case, but he says he does not see that the shooter has

00:29:54.620 much of a defense. I don't pretend to know what was going on in the shooter's mind at the time. I'm

00:29:59.240 sure he thought he was doing the right thing by protecting the store and protecting the property.

00:30:04.680 But unfortunately it was outside the bounds of the law. So this to me is a total miscarriage of

00:30:14.020 justice. And I say that while acknowledging that by the letter of the law, technically, uh, the guy's

00:30:19.380 probably guilty. Well, you just heard there about the letter of the law is, is true, but

00:30:25.000 the law is wrong. And anyway, we also know that, you know, people who are definitely guilty of all

00:30:34.220 kinds of crimes are let off the hook all the time. Prosecutors say, you know, either slap on the wrist

00:30:40.440 or they just don't prosecute or whatever. So we know that happens all the time. Prosecutors should do the

00:30:44.200 same thing here. Uh, they're not doing it because they're more interested in, uh, going after guys

00:30:50.460 like this and going after actual perpetual criminals, like the guy that was killed here.

00:30:54.720 Because the fact is that a person, and I'm talking, I mean, I'm not talking about the letter of the law.

00:31:00.500 I'm talking about just what is actually right and what is morally right. Um, a person should have the

00:31:07.780 right to defend their property and their business with whatever means they deem necessary. It would

00:31:15.140 be very good to live in a society where criminals are afraid to steal because they know they might be

00:31:22.120 killed. That would be a good thing. If you have criminals who, uh, are on the verge of potentially

00:31:30.800 committing a crime like this, then they stop themselves because they say, I don't know. I,

00:31:34.380 I don't want to get shot and killed. That's a good thing. That is a sign of a healthy and well

00:31:41.000 ordered society. It's how it should be. Don't want to get shot. Don't steal. That's all. It's not

00:31:46.480 complicated. It's not a complicated thing. That's why there's no, there's no injustice to my mind.

00:31:53.900 There's injustice in how this, uh, employees being treated, but, but in his response, shooting the

00:31:58.580 other guy, that's not unjust. You know, he, he didn't go find this guy while he was like sitting

00:32:05.440 down for lunch somewhere and kill him. The guy came in, decided to steal. Just don't, if you didn't

00:32:11.240 do that, you wouldn't get shot. Simple equation. And if you steal, you deserve whatever happens as a 0.62

00:32:19.560 result. You know, there are people who say, well, he stole. He doesn't deserve to die over that.

00:32:23.780 Yeah, he does. He actually does. You made that decision. You have no right to do that.

00:32:31.020 You have no right to do it. You have no right to just walk into a store and take from the cash

00:32:34.600 register. You don't have any right to do that. And you're doing something you have no right to do.

00:32:38.580 And so your own rights have been suspended in that moment. I mean, you have forfeited your own rights

00:32:43.900 by doing something you have no right to do. And whatever happens as a result, you deserve,

00:32:51.060 you do deserve it. Uh, and this should be the logic of the justice system.

00:32:57.580 Yeah. The justice system should say, Oh, you got shot. What were you doing when you got shot? Were

00:33:01.140 you sitting, uh, at your, at your house? Were you taking a nap? Were you just walking down the street

00:33:05.600 innocently? Were you volunteering at a soup kitchen? Were you visiting an elderly, uh, woman at a nursing

00:33:11.920 home? Oh no, you weren't. Oh, you were stealing. You were stealing from a gun store. You moron.

00:33:17.380 Okay. Well, that's your problem. We don't care your fault. Oh, you're dead. Well, sorry. Sorry 1.00

00:33:25.100 about your luck. Sorry. You decided to throw your life away like that. You idiot. I mean,

00:33:30.060 this is what the system should say. That would be justice. And it's not just because a person who

00:33:37.920 steals deserves whatever happens as a result. They do, but that's not just the point. It's also that

00:33:45.500 citizens should be able to protect their livelihood. Um, defending your property, your livelihood

00:33:53.380 that, that is defending your life. It is self-defense because our lives depend on, uh, our jobs. They

00:34:02.380 depend on what we own. So when people say, Oh, it's just property. It's just money. What do you mean?

00:34:08.100 Just property, just money. What are you talking about? Your life depends on that.

00:34:13.060 Your life depends on your property. It depends on your money.

00:34:18.820 You don't have any property or any money. Then, then you're, you're, you are very vulnerable

00:34:23.100 to all kinds of things. So your life depends on it and you should have the right to defend your

00:34:28.460 property. And the person stealing it, as far as I'm concerned, has no rights. That's the way it

00:34:34.940 should work. And you shouldn't have to justify it. It's not, it's, it's, it shouldn't be up to

00:34:40.600 anyone else to come in Monday morning quarterback. And after the case, after the fact and say, well,

00:34:45.180 you didn't technically need that property. You could have been fine without it. Who are you to

00:34:48.840 say I could have been fine without it? It's not your property. It's not your decision to make.

00:34:52.920 I don't care what your opinion is. This is mine. It's, it's mine. It's not yours. Don't take it.

00:34:58.700 Don't want to get shot. Don't take it. So what I always ask in these situations is what is the

00:35:07.640 slippery slope in either direction? Okay. I mean, if you think about it, what if, let's just say in

00:35:14.600 my fantasy scenario, um, which I know is not the country we live in, but, but I think it is, it should

00:35:21.960 be. So, so what if we were to grant basically total leeway to the victims of robberies and thefts?

00:35:32.420 And what if we were to say, Hey, if someone steals from you, then through the whole act of stealing,

00:35:39.980 even while they're running away, you have the right to do whatever you need to do to recover your

00:35:45.680 property. Okay. Now I'm not saying that if someone tries to steal from you and you recover your property

00:35:51.520 and then they run away that, you know, you can hunt them down the next day in an act of vengeance 0.99

00:35:56.520 and just kill them while they're sitting on their front porch. Um, that obviously would not be okay. 0.99

00:36:04.800 Cause that's the, but, but through the whole act of stealing, you, you doesn't, you know, doesn't

00:36:10.600 the whole act, whether they're coming after you or they're not, whether they have a gun or they don't

00:36:14.740 through the whole act of stealing, you have the right, just do whatever you need to do to get your

00:36:18.940 property back. That person is doing something they have no right to do. They forfeited their

00:36:22.740 own rights in the process. They've made that decision. It's completely on them. It's not

00:36:26.580 anyone else's fault, but theirs. And so do what you need to do to get your property back. And if you do

00:36:30.980 that, you know, we're, we're gonna, we're gonna look the other way. Uh, we're gonna, you know,

00:36:35.440 we're gonna do everything in our power to, um, be as lenient on you as possible. What if we were to say

00:36:41.240 that as a society, what's the slippery slope? Like what ends up happening? You know, how does

00:36:47.960 that harm us? Worst case, we end up with a lot of dead thieves. And there are many people who would

00:36:55.320 say, I don't know if that's really a worst case, but that is the worst. However you look at it,

00:36:59.240 that's the worst case. You end up with a lot of dead thieves. Um, really best case scenario is you

00:37:03.740 don't end up with a lot of dead thieves. I mean, I don't want to see people dead no matter one way or

00:37:07.000 another. I'd prefer if, if, if nobody was shot. Um, I'd love to live in a world where that was,

00:37:11.720 it's never necessary to shoot anybody. That's what I would prefer to live in a utopia. We don't,

00:37:15.600 but, um, best case to me, so worst case, a lot of dead thieves. Best case is that you don't end up

00:37:22.900 with a lot of dead thieves and robbers because people decide not to do that in the first place,

00:37:28.460 knowing that their own life is at risk and knowing that if they do this, the justice system will be

00:37:35.220 entirely on the victim's side. And so they're going to be screwed because either they're going

00:37:41.320 to get shot and killed in the process, or they're going to have the, or they're going to survive and 0.91

00:37:45.280 they're going to get the book thrown at them, uh, by the justice system while they're, when they're

00:37:49.120 prosecuted for being a thief. So that's, you know, that's the, that's the slippery slope.

00:37:55.760 Oh no, how terrible. On the other hand, if you grant more rights to the thieves than to the victims,

00:38:06.720 if you make people too afraid to defend themselves and their property, um,

00:38:14.680 then we don't need to speculate about the consequences because we're living those consequences

00:38:20.940 right now. We all know what happens, right? We, we know what the slippery slope scenario is in that

00:38:27.480 case, but we're, we're living it. Then, then you have just the breakdown of public order. You have

00:38:33.140 the breakdown of law and order. You have the breakdown of society. You have, you have, uh,

00:38:38.140 cities that are unlivable. You have one community after another that becomes unlivable. And we're law

00:38:45.940 abiding people who just, all they want to do is they want to open up a business. They want to work

00:38:51.180 at a, you know, they want to get a job. They want to open a business. They want to be contributing

00:38:54.240 members of society, uh, where you, you end up in a situation where those people are, uh, made to live

00:39:04.160 in fear, or you're chasing them out of the community to begin with. You end up in a world where the,

00:39:09.600 the, the, the leeches, the parasites, the people have no interest in being contributing members 1.00

00:39:16.700 of society at all, where those people are more empowered than the people who are trying to 0.95

00:39:24.540 follow the law and trying to contribute to society and take care of themselves and their families.

00:40:42.440 Butch Shorewood says, I agree with your thoughts on voter ID almost completely, 0.91

00:40:46.260 except for the fact that the law doesn't support it. The U.S. Constitution bestows the right to vote

00:40:50.000 on its citizens, but there is no legal requirement to obtain any form of ID whatsoever. It's not a

00:40:55.160 question of whether a person can obtain an ID, but whether they must obtain one. Since they don't

00:41:00.140 have to, then they certain, then they shouldn't need one to vote since their constitutional right

00:41:04.520 is nearly unconditional. However, uh, what we should do is pass a constitutional amendment to

00:41:08.960 require such ID for future voting. Uh, I just think you're misreading the law here completely

00:41:15.240 and the constitution. Uh, there, there's nothing in the constitution that says that your right to

00:41:20.240 vote is unconditional. There's nothing in the constitution that, that, that says that any of

00:41:23.920 your rights are literally unconditional. All of your rights are conditional, every single one.

00:41:30.340 Um, and most people, uh, I don't really know anyone who disagrees with that because to really

00:41:35.940 disagree with it, you would have to say that like, we need, we need to abolish all prisons,

00:41:39.980 for example, because when you go to prison, uh, you lose most of your rights, you know, including

00:41:46.220 your first amendment rights. Most of them are out the window, certainly your second member. So,

00:41:49.480 um, uh, so this unconditional idea is, is, is, is nonsense to my mind. Um, and just because the

00:42:02.600 constitution doesn't specify that you need, uh, a photo ID, which we wouldn't expect it. We wouldn't

00:42:09.660 expect people who had no concept of photo IDs to have mentioned anything about photo IDs, but just

00:42:15.940 because it doesn't specify that it doesn't mean that it's unconstitutional to require it. Um, just

00:42:21.260 like there are a lot of specifications that what certainly, certainly many that most people would

00:42:27.680 agree with when it comes to the second amendment. Uh, for example, I think most people agree that

00:42:34.300 an eight year old shouldn't be able to walk into a store and buy a handgun. I think most people would

00:42:40.620 agree with that. Even if you're, you know, uh, uh, uh, firmly in favor of gun rights, which I am,

00:42:47.900 you would still say that. And yet that's not, that's not specified in the second amendment.

00:42:53.060 But of course we all agree that those kinds of conditions are warranted. And I think it's the

00:43:00.360 same thing with voting. Yes. The, the right to vote exists, but I don't see any reason why we have

00:43:07.080 to treat it like it is, as you say, unconditional. Um, and I think that if you won't listen to the

00:43:14.700 show, you know, that I think an ID should be one condition of voting, but I think that should just 0.97

00:43:19.960 be the beginning. This just because voting exists as a concept doesn't mean that, um, anyone should

00:43:28.780 be able to do it without any kinds of requirements whatsoever. And that in fact is not how we treat

00:43:34.280 many of our other rights. There are certain requirements, certain conditions,

00:43:37.900 and, uh, there should be in this case as well. Let's see. Dave says, Matt, I think you're looking

00:43:44.820 at this ultra process food bit all wrong. We should be all for this. Let's slap a warning on it. Let's

00:43:50.160 add a, uh, add on some extra taxes like they did with cigarettes. Let's make this a shaming thing to

00:43:55.620 buy. Perhaps then it will go away and food will get healthier. Win-win. Angel of death says, Matt,

00:44:01.440 I agree with you on 95% of everything, but lately you've been missing the mark a bit.

00:44:05.200 I can't stand when people try to discredit addiction to sugar by implying we'd see homeless

00:44:08.900 sugar addicts. We don't see that because these foods are cheap and easy, uh, to get unlike hard

00:44:14.940 drugs. God warrior says, listen, I'm conservative. I'm a screw the snowflake crap as any of us. Uh,

00:44:21.940 food addiction is real though. It may not be a physical addiction like cigarettes or alcohol,

00:44:25.240 but it is absolutely more complicated than have some willpower. That being said, it truly does require

00:44:30.220 putting, uh, your balls to the wall and not backing down to overcome it. Just like any addiction.

00:44:36.760 Okay. So how is that more complicated than willpower? Like, how is it more common? You say

00:44:41.880 it's not about willpower, but it is about overcoming it and not backing down. Oh, so you mean like

00:44:46.920 willpower? That's what willpower, what do you think willpower means? Um, what do you think addiction

00:44:53.200 means? See, I think a lot of people, as anytime we talk about this addiction issue, uh, a lot of

00:45:00.480 people are terrified of putting the onus on the individual. Um, you're so afraid of personal

00:45:06.800 responsibility as a concept that you, you want to find some way to make people the victims of their own

00:45:14.440 choices. And, and I think that in large part is born from the fact that a lot of people have been

00:45:23.660 totally brainwashed by therapeutic language, by the psychological industry, and you've accepted

00:45:31.340 their medicalization of the human condition. And you don't even realize that you've accepted it.

00:45:36.780 You don't question it. You know, you, you see human nature in a way that would have been completely

00:45:41.640 foreign to your ancestors, to everyone who lived on earth prior to the 20th century.

00:45:45.840 And you don't realize it. But the psychological industry came in and just completely reshaped

00:45:50.940 the way people view themselves and humanity. And I think there are so many people that just

00:45:57.860 because this is the world they've always lived in, they've never stopped to, to question it at all.

00:46:02.860 So what is addiction? You know, when we talk about someone being addicted,

00:46:07.200 we could be talking about dependence, about someone whose body physiologically needs the

00:46:13.300 substance so much that if they stop taking it all of a sudden, there will be severe physical side

00:46:17.860 effects, possibly including death. Like the kind of thing where if you stop doing it or stop taking

00:46:22.620 the substance, you could end up in the hospital. There's that. And that's why it's got nothing to do

00:46:29.400 with how much it costs. People end up destroying their lives. They end up on the street homeless over

00:46:33.860 an addiction because they fall into this category. And by the way, this is not a category where

00:46:40.240 personal choice no longer applies either. They also are in that spot because of their own choices.

00:46:47.700 And they also do have the power to overcome it. They probably need some help and it'll be very

00:46:53.800 difficult, but it can be done. It's difficult. And if you're using the word addiction to apply to

00:47:00.980 those kinds of people, I have no issue with it. But then there's this other category

00:47:04.000 that when people say addiction, what they really mean is that someone really, really wants

00:47:11.320 something. That's what they mean. There's no real chemical dependence. You're not going to go into

00:47:16.680 some kind of severe withdrawal if you don't have it anymore. Nothing like that. It's just,

00:47:21.860 you really, really want it. And it's because of this definition of addiction that everything is

00:47:27.960 now an addiction. We talked about food addiction, sugar addiction, porn addiction, uh, everything,

00:47:33.600 chocolate addiction. Everything's addiction now because, because the word has come to mean,

00:47:38.300 I really, really want it. And look, you can come up with whatever fancy medical sounding terms you want,

00:47:44.880 but still when it comes to that category, all we're talking about is simply that somebody really,

00:47:51.180 really wants something. That's it. And what I'm saying is that turning that into a medical issue,

00:47:56.460 diagnosing somebody with a, with a, with a, you know, an addiction with a, and we say an addiction

00:48:03.500 is a disease. We're diagnosing them with a disease, like they have cancer. That's crazy. And it doesn't

00:48:09.140 help anything. I mean, let me ask you this. Is there any evidence that this propensity to call

00:48:13.520 everything an addiction has actually helped people to avoid or overcome harmful behavior?

00:48:18.760 Okay. Increasingly more and more harmful behavior is being labeled an addiction. Is there any evidence

00:48:26.440 that it's helping? Is it, do we see fewer and fewer people engaging in harmful behavior as we label it

00:48:34.100 addictions? No, it's going the other way. The more that we call everything an addiction, the more that

00:48:41.300 we medicalize everything, the more self-destructive people become. And it's not hard to see why that's the

00:48:45.480 case. It's because you're removing their free will from the equation. You're convincing them that

00:48:49.440 they have no, that they have no willpower, that they can't, that they can't help it, that it's not

00:48:53.500 their fault. And the more you tell people that it's not their fault, while they are engaging in a

00:48:59.100 behavior that they are choosing to engage in, the more of that behavior you will get. It's not complicated.

00:49:07.640 The more you tell people that they're doing something, they're stuffing their face with a

00:49:11.980 Cinnabon and you tell them, it's not his fault, he's addicted. He can't help it. What's going to

00:49:16.200 happen? Most people will just keep stuffing their faces because you tell them, you let them off the

00:49:20.280 hook. And it makes no sense. You can't help it. You can stop. You can. Whether you're watching

00:49:31.120 porn, whatever it is, you're calling an addiction, you can absolutely stop. You stop saying you can't,

00:49:35.780 you can. It is weakness. It is a character flaw. It is a moral defect, but it's all under your control.

00:49:42.920 And no one else will tell you this because everyone else is just, even the people that

00:49:46.800 claim to be all about, I'm a conservative, I'm all about personal responsibility. And people that

00:49:50.360 claim that, and the next thing you know, they go down the list and every damn vice is now, 0.97

00:49:55.120 well, it's those people, they can't help it. Let's be nice to them. So, you know, sometimes I feel 0.97

00:50:00.300 like I'm the only one in America who would just be honest about this. Like, no, it's your fault.

00:50:03.320 Yep, it's your fault. You're watching porn, your fault. You can stop. You should stop. You know you 1.00

00:50:07.380 can stop. You don't, you don't stop because you don't want to. Okay. But you can, and you should.

00:50:15.160 You're 400 pounds overweight because you're eating too much and you can stop eating so much.

00:50:21.260 Stop being weak. Okay. It makes you feel ashamed when people talk this way. Well,

00:50:26.420 you should be ashamed. You should be ashamed. It's shameful behavior. Stop. You can stop saying

00:50:33.260 you can't. This is, uh, this is why I should really be in the therapy. This is why I should

00:50:40.500 be a therapist. This is the kind of therapy that I would offer. Well, you all have referred to me as

00:50:45.160 many things because I am a multi-talented, best-selling LGBTQI children's book author,

00:50:49.820 world-renowned chef. Well, now am I a world-renowned chef? Okay. We'll go with that too. I'm a lot of

00:50:55.420 things. Well, now you can also refer to me as a voice actor because as you saw earlier,

00:50:59.640 I am in one of the episodes of Chip Chilla, which made my kids very excited because they've been

00:51:03.760 watching the show and they love it. I mean, I already said that they weren't excited. They

00:51:06.960 were kind of excited. They were excited about the show, but I wanted them to be more impressed with

00:51:10.060 my line. Unfortunately, they were, they should have been more impressed. And Benke sent over a gift

00:51:15.760 box filled with the merchandise from the show. They had plushies from Chip Chilla, Mabel, and,

00:51:20.760 and also books. And I mean, the honest truth is, I'm not even, not just saying this for the,

00:51:24.960 for the sake of the ad, but this one in particular is, uh, my four-year-old daughter's favorite toy

00:51:30.420 right now. We got this toy before she'd even seen the show. And so she had no context for it

00:51:36.060 whatsoever. And she will not, she won't, she will not, she literally will not leave home without

00:51:41.280 it, which is great because she loves it. It also is like, you know, now every time we go somewhere,

00:51:46.680 she's got to have the toy. And then if she loses it, it's going to be a crisis, but she loves the toy.

00:51:50.560 All our kids do it. Your kids, kids will love it as well. Um, they don't have my character yet,

00:51:54.060 but they have the other ones. And I will say that they're all, they're all really cool and

00:51:57.180 they're worth checking out. You can get yours at bentkeyshop.com. There are plushies, books,

00:52:01.500 and puzzles, all from your favorite Benke original shows. Oh, and just in, Benke is now the number

00:52:05.120 one kids app in the Apple store and climbing the charts in entertainment. So head over to the app

00:52:09.420 store and download the Benke app today. Now let's get to our daily cancellation.

00:52:13.560 One of the most annoying trends these days is the trend of making things into trends. We've discussed

00:52:24.540 this in the past. Gen Z is in particular is obsessed with taking the most banal and commonplace

00:52:29.320 activities, repackaging them with a new name and hashtag and acting like they invented the idea.

00:52:34.420 And it seems like they're finally getting to the end of the list of routine human behaviors to

00:52:38.760 trendify because the latest trend, which is not a trend is the activity that up until now has been

00:52:44.960 known as going for a walk. CBS news has the breaking news report. A new trend on Tik TOK may actually

00:52:50.500 have some health benefits. Something called silent walking is trending on the social media app where

00:52:55.360 Tik TOK users are encouraging people to walk without AirPods or headphones, podcasts, or music,

00:52:59.540 and without walking companions, simply walk in silence without stimulation, distraction free.

00:53:04.500 Proponents say it allows people to be alone with our thoughts, to feel more relaxed,

00:53:07.880 to enjoy nature, to be more mindful, and to think more clearly. Therapists agree. We're

00:53:11.760 bombarded with so much noise all day long that silent walking can allow us to escape even if

00:53:15.480 for just a short period of time. So you're not only getting the physical benefits, but the mental

00:53:19.080 health benefits as well. Now, needless to say, this is incredible, incredible news. Some local

00:53:24.700 news stations around the country have been covering the trend as well because it's such big news to be

00:53:28.580 clear. Again, they have done actual news reports about walking. Here's one.

00:53:34.620 And a new trend on Tik TOK may actually have some health benefits. What's this all about?

00:53:38.960 Okay. So it's something called silent walking. Okay. Have you heard of it? No, it's trending on

00:53:43.300 the social media app where Tik TOKers are actually encouraging people to go out and walk without 0.71

00:53:48.140 AirPods or headphones, without podcasts and music playing, and without walking companions.

00:53:53.780 Simply walk in silence without stimulation, distraction free. Proponents say it allows people to be alone with

00:54:00.620 their thoughts. They feel more relaxed. They can enjoy nature. They can feel more mindful

00:54:04.980 and think more clearly. And therapists are in agreement. We're bombarded with so much noise all

00:54:10.740 day long that silent walking can allow us to escape even if for just a short period of time.

00:54:15.960 So you're not only getting the physical benefits of the actual walking, but you're getting some

00:54:19.660 mental health benefits as well.

00:54:21.180 Now this amazing idea, the idea called walking is so radical and revolutionary that you're probably

00:54:29.260 wondering who invented it. Well, I can't tell you who invented walking. I don't think any one particular

00:54:34.500 person did, but I can tell you who has given herself credit for inventing it. That is a Tik TOK 0.96

00:54:39.020 influencer named Maddie, who made this video about the silent walking movement that she believes

00:54:45.300 she pioneered. Watch. 1.00

00:54:48.760 I'm committing to one silent walk a day.

00:54:52.940 Not me unintentionally starting a movement. It's called silent walking and it's about to change your life.

00:54:58.860 So this all started when my nutritionist recommended that I start walking 30 minutes a day instead of doing

00:55:05.200 like insane cardio like I used to. Those workouts were making my body inflamed. That's a story for another time.

00:55:10.660 And as I was about to go out on my first 30 minute walk, my sweet boyfriend challenged me

00:55:15.460 to walk without distractions. No AirPods, no podcast, no music, just me, myself and I. And at first I was

00:55:23.700 like, no, my anxiety could never, which is probably what you're thinking. But something within me was

00:55:29.160 like, let me just try it. And look, the first two minutes are mayhem. Your mind is racing. You're

00:55:33.680 going to have anxiety. Something happens after two minutes where your brain just gets into this flow state

00:55:39.460 and everything is quiet. Suddenly you can hear yourself. Look, the universe and your intuition

00:55:46.140 comes to you through whispers. So if you're never alone with your thoughts and you never get quiet,

00:55:51.640 you're going to miss the whispers. And those whispers are the most important to be paying

00:55:55.520 attention to. After 30 minutes of silent walking, I suddenly had the clarity that I had been always

00:56:01.680 looking for. The brain fog lifted. Suddenly all these ideas are flowing into me because I'm giving them

00:56:07.300 space to enter. When you're listening to a podcast or music, you're distracting yourself. You're not

00:56:11.960 letting the signs and the ideas have space to come to you. Every time I finish a silent walk,

00:56:19.220 I have a new idea for my business. I've untangled a weird situation in my head that I've been

00:56:24.260 ruminating over. And I feel like a lot of my current question marks get answered.

00:56:29.280 Okay. Now I think, I know you're thinking a few things. You're thinking, first of all,

00:56:32.300 that she apparently has a whole other fascinating story about how cardio makes her body inflamed.

00:56:37.760 Unfortunately, she is saving that epic saga for another time. So we'll have to stay tuned.

00:56:41.880 You're also thinking that she seems to struggle with the concept of silent. It's supposed to be

00:56:45.980 a silent walk and yet she didn't shut up the entire time. So leave it to a woman to talk for 25 minutes 1.00

00:56:51.820 about the concept of being silent. Of course, the activity that she's suggesting, even if she doesn't

00:56:57.740 seem to have mastered it herself, is indeed very healthy and worthwhile. Walking in general is an

00:57:02.660 advisable activity, something that every able-bodied person should try to fit into their day every day,

00:57:08.060 really. And walking in silence, allowing yourself to think, to contemplate, to experience your

00:57:12.560 immediate surroundings is the best form of walking. You cannot have a healthy inner life or any inner

00:57:18.040 life at all, really, if you don't have silence. To avoid silence is to avoid yourself, your own mind,

00:57:23.320 your consciousness. So I have no problem with silent walking. I think it's a very good practice.

00:57:30.060 The problem is the ignorance that leads these TikTok influencers to believe that they came up

00:57:36.520 with the idea themselves. She started a movement, she brags. I mean, you might as well claim that

00:57:41.460 you're the first person to mow your lawn or take a shower or microwave a bag of popcorn. Hey, I started

00:57:47.620 a movement, everybody. First I tied my shoes and now everyone else is tying theirs too. This will change

00:57:53.120 your life. Now, perhaps this is a less ignorance than it is arrogance. Maybe it's a healthy mix of

00:57:59.820 both. And this is the consequence of having younger generations that live in their own bubble,

00:58:05.000 severed from or willfully ignoring the wisdom and guidance of their ancestors. Because what Maddie

00:58:09.920 says about the value of cutting out all the noise is mostly true, of course. But if she'd been paying

00:58:14.000 attention to anything but TikTok and Instagram, she would know that a great many wise and intelligent

00:58:18.240 people through history have already said quite a lot about contemplative silence and its spiritual

00:58:24.140 and psychological benefits. But like so many in her generation, she hasn't paid attention to what

00:58:28.200 anyone has said about anything. So she believes she's stumbled upon some hidden truth that 10 billion

00:58:34.200 people before her managed to figure out without any of the fanfare or hashtags.

00:58:38.440 Now, I say that she's mostly right because she can't help but veer off into the self-help,

00:58:44.260 change your life in three easy steps nonsense at the end. She says that every time she walks down

00:58:49.240 the street in silence, she comes up with some great idea for her business or she solves some riddle that

00:58:54.180 she's been stumped by and she's left with a feeling of clarity. But the truth is that walking in silence

00:59:01.200 is not a magic trick. It's not going to deliver the secrets of the universe to you. Most of the time,

00:59:06.000 you won't think of anything profound or life-changing. And if you decide to contemplate in silence with the

00:59:13.500 expectation that brilliant insights and profitable business ideas will pop into your head automatically

00:59:19.440 as a reward, then you're certain to get nothing out of it. That's because the main benefit of having

00:59:25.140 moments of silence is simply that it gives you an opportunity to be human, to exist in the current

00:59:31.680 moment, to think about anything at all, to be something other than an overstimulated automaton

00:59:38.140 constantly consuming content just for the sake of it. Okay, that's why you should have silence in your

00:59:43.760 life for its own sake, just because, just because you're a person and people are supposed to have

00:59:49.680 that. And that's why the video I just played of this woman is actually quite disturbing because Maddie

00:59:56.960 says that she was initially terrified of walking down the street in silence. The first two minutes

01:00:01.520 were mayhem, she claims. Now think about that for a moment. Two minutes, two minutes without listening

01:00:07.940 to something or looking at her phone caused internal chaos, a mental crisis. Two minutes. It was a great

01:00:15.540 challenge to simply exist for two minutes without any form of electronic engagement. This was a harrowing

01:00:22.880 ordeal for her. And not only that, but she's walking the whole time. I mean, imagine if she tried

01:00:30.200 actually, here's, here's a, you know, this is like the, you know, the next, the next level. Okay. From,

01:00:35.080 from silent walking, try this, try this, try silent sitting, try sitting somewhere without any engagement,

01:00:42.520 without looking at your phone for five minutes and just sitting there. And, and I'm not saying you're

01:00:48.360 meditating or doing yoga. You're just sitting somewhere and you're existing and you're thinking.

01:00:54.120 Imagine doing that because at least when you're walking, you have the stimulation of walking,

01:00:57.840 you're seeing things. Did you know that like, that's something people used to do all the time.

01:01:04.240 You would just, you would have times during your day where you're just kind of like sitting there

01:01:07.860 and you're just sitting. That's all you're doing. And you're thinking, and that's it.

01:01:11.560 That's a thing people used to do a lot. Well, she, they're not even, she's, Maddie's not even close

01:01:17.940 to that. That's like, that's 10 years down the line. She, that's, that is, that's, she's not even

01:01:22.660 JV. That's varsity. That's D1 college level. Anyway, she's sure that, that most in her audience

01:01:30.880 will have the same experience as her, that it will be just as challenging for them. And she's probably

01:01:35.700 right because this generation is so overstimulated, so attached to their phones, so digitally dependent

01:01:42.080 that walking down the street for two minutes in silence, two minutes, it's like climbing some

01:01:47.580 great summit. This is their Mount Everest. That's why they consider walking in silence to be

01:01:52.660 revolutionary. It is so far outside of their normal experience and requires so much effort on their

01:01:58.540 part that they assume they've discovered something new. They don't realize that it is in fact the most

01:02:04.920 accessible and normal human experience made inaccessible and abnormal for them because they have

01:02:12.020 been raised like robots rather than people, which isn't their fault to be fair. We have now a generation

01:02:18.680 of human beings, multiple generations and counting, who don't know how to simply exist. They don't know

01:02:26.460 how to be in the world, how to be human. They don't know how to do it. They only know how to be

01:02:32.460 consumers, consumers of products, of content, of light, of noise, of sounds, of images, and they have to

01:02:39.160 have that bombarding them all the time or they just, they can't, they don't know what to do. Many of them

01:02:45.080 have spent, have never in their lives spent even two minutes at a time not consuming. Think about that.

01:02:52.880 There are probably millions of people walking around who have never spent two minutes not consuming

01:02:58.620 something. It is terrifying to think that we will soon live in a world exclusively populated by 0.99

01:03:05.440 people like this. People who don't know how to be people. That's what we really learned from the

01:03:12.460 silent walking trend. And that is why we are not canceling Gen Z for this. Rather, I think it is the

01:03:18.440 parents who raised them this way who are today canceled. And that'll do it for the show today.

01:03:26.760 Thanks for watching. Thanks for listening. Talk to you tomorrow. Godspeed.
