Today on the show, Brett Kavanaugh has sided with liberal justices to protect Planned Parenthood funding.
00:00:06.300
Meanwhile, Republicans never did defund Planned Parenthood like they said they would.
00:00:10.340
What should this tell us? What message is being sent to us?
00:00:13.260
Also, we'll take a look at the top 20 most dangerous jobs in America,
00:00:17.560
and we'll look at which gender tends to do those jobs.
00:00:21.260
Maybe it will tell us something about the wage gap.
00:00:23.500
All of that coming up on The Matt Walsh Show today.
00:00:25.300
Well, it's not a surprise. It's not a surprise, but it's no less outrageous,
00:00:33.820
no less of a bad omen of things to come that Kavanaugh joined the liberal justices on the Supreme Court yesterday
00:00:42.120
to block a case that could have given states the right to defund Planned Parenthood.
00:00:48.700
Kavanaugh, Roberts, and the liberals, but I guess I may be repeating myself there,
00:00:54.120
left in place two lower court opinions that said that states violate federal law
00:00:59.980
when they terminate Medicaid contracts with Planned Parenthood affiliates.
00:01:05.100
Now, only four justices are needed to grant a hearing on a case,
00:01:10.560
because that's all that was at stake here was just let's give them a hearing.
00:01:18.160
So Kavanaugh could have been the decisive vote in that case.
00:01:22.460
It's not as though the game was already set because of Roberts.
00:01:31.940
They said, well, maybe it was just because Roberts was already doing that and it didn't matter.
00:01:37.120
You only need four to agree to give a hearing on something.
00:01:40.800
So his vote was decisive and he sided with the liberals.
00:01:44.820
Well, it's, it is now very hard to see Kavanaugh voting to overturn Roe.
00:01:54.600
It was already, and there were those of us who warned of this back when he was nominated,
00:02:00.780
that it was already far from a slam dunk that he would vote to overturn Roe.
00:02:06.420
But now at this point, um, it's, it's really hard to see it.
00:02:10.640
It's hard to see him even allowing a case like that to be heard in the first place,
00:02:14.040
because I think sometimes people forget that in order for, for Roe, in order for there to be a vote on Roe,
00:02:20.880
um, first you have to have a case challenging Roe that makes it all its way,
00:02:25.940
And then the Supreme Court justices have to agree to hear it in the first place.
00:02:30.020
We know that the liberal justices would never agree to it.
00:02:33.460
Um, and now I think we've got a pretty good idea of where Roberts and Kavanaugh would fall on that.
00:02:38.940
And this isn't even an abortion rights case, abortion rights.
00:02:44.480
This is just a case about the rights of individuals to not have their tax money go to abortion conglomerates.
00:02:51.360
Um, theoretically a, a pro-abortion person, if they cared at all about liberty.
00:02:57.640
And I know that if you care about liberty, you're not going to be pro-abortion.
00:03:00.720
But if there was anyone who's pretends to be more libertarian minded,
00:03:05.000
but for some reason doesn't understand how that concept, how that principle should extend to the unborn,
00:03:09.580
they should still be in favor of allowing states to defund because that's what this is all about.
00:03:14.520
This isn't, this is about should Planned Parenthood, that, um, business that earns over a billion dollars
00:03:23.140
or that is, that's worth over a billion dollars, should it continue to receive funds from the state?
00:03:32.560
Meanwhile, the, uh, the new Congress with the Democrat controlled house will be taking over in January.
00:03:40.460
I think their first, uh, I think there'll be in session on January 3rd, I believe.
00:03:49.840
Well, a lot of things haven't gotten done, actually.
00:04:02.000
But on top of that list, on top of that extensive list of failures,
00:04:07.220
I think at the very top of that list is going to be the fact that Planned Parenthood was never defunded.
00:04:14.900
And it's actually, it's not enough to say that Planned Parenthood was never defunded.
00:04:21.940
Um, the truth is, the truth is that Planned Parenthood was actively funded.
00:04:30.340
The choice was made by this Republican Congress to, it was made again and again and again to actively fund Planned Parenthood.
00:04:42.860
And that choice was also signed off by the president.
00:04:46.720
So it really seems like Planned Parenthood will never be defunded.
00:04:50.160
This institution that kills 330,000 humans a year will continue to be funded by the government.
00:05:03.860
There, there isn't, there isn't even a pro-liberty party.
00:05:07.780
Because you only need to be in favor of liberty.
00:05:14.560
But if you care about freedom, if you care about economic freedom, let's say, because if you care about freedom in general, then obviously you're going to care about life because you can't have freedom without life.
00:05:25.180
But let's say you're, you're, uh, one of those socially liberal types, but you, you, you claim to care about economic freedom.
00:05:32.640
Well, in that case, you would say, or you should say, if you really are economic, if you care about economic freedom, you would say it's obviously tyrannical to force people to fund this, this company, this company that half of the country detests and loathes and wants nothing to do with.
00:05:51.980
So we don't have a party that cares about any of that.
00:05:53.760
We don't have a party that cares about, that cares about pro-life.
00:05:56.280
If we don't have a party that cares about economic freedom, um, which is why we gave it control of the entire government and it couldn't even get this job done.
00:06:07.800
Instead, we get Planned Parenthood funding and we get a Supreme Court justice who won't even let us hear a case that might defund it.
00:06:15.540
I think we need to understand something else if we, if we don't already understand this.
00:06:18.540
Because for most Republicans, okay, abortion and Planned Parenthood and all of the issues attached to it, abortion and all that means, it is a great issue for them.
00:06:35.840
It's not a problem that they want to get rid of.
00:06:43.420
And it's great because it can be used to convince people to vote for them.
00:06:47.300
But if abortion ever goes away or Planned Parenthood funding ever goes away, then they no longer have that issue anymore.
00:06:57.280
Now, in a, in a sense they do, because they could argue that, well, the other guys want to re reinstate these things.
00:07:05.000
But that are, that's never as strong as being able to say, there's this terrible thing happening.
00:07:13.180
So they have, they want this, they have this issue.
00:07:22.200
They could care less about the content of the issue.
00:07:26.140
They could care less about solving any problem.
00:07:28.840
They don't, they could care less about stopping it.
00:07:36.120
And if that much isn't clear to you by now, I don't know what will ever make it clear.
00:07:43.140
You know, this is, this is not true of, of, um,
00:07:46.180
of every Republican necessarily, but it is true of most of them.
00:07:54.840
that's why I don't see any changes in the, in the near future.
00:07:59.960
I don't see any way that any of this changes in the near future.
00:08:04.920
And if we can't get, you know, if we, if we can't get Planned Parenthood defunding
00:08:09.360
with a Republican Senate and Republican house and, uh, and a Republican president
00:08:17.840
and two Republican, two recent Republican appointees, supposedly, um, five conservative
00:08:27.680
Supreme Supreme court justices, supposedly if we, if we can't get it done that way, we
00:08:34.140
We can't get it done through, um, through Congress, then how's it going to happen?
00:08:43.580
We need to figure out as pro-lifers how, and when, and if we are ever going to hold these
00:08:51.340
people accountable, you know, when, when are we ever going to hold them accountable?
00:08:56.360
Because they never do what they say they're going to do.
00:08:59.380
And then, um, and then we say, Oh, we're going to hold you accountable for this come election
00:09:03.840
time, but then they say, no, you can't hold us accountable because if you do that, then
00:09:07.120
the other guys might get in there and they're definitely not going to do what you want them
00:09:21.360
You know, the problem with the problem with, uh, conservatives and, and pro-lifers especially,
00:09:25.980
but conservatives in general is that we are, we are crumb eaters.
00:09:33.220
We we're satisfied with whatever little crumbs are thrown to us by the people that we elect
00:09:37.900
and put in power and that we support with our votes.
00:09:41.160
We, we are satisfied with, so even now, everything that I'm saying right now, I know there are
00:09:45.920
people that are going to say, well, well, yeah, but we got tax cuts.
00:09:54.140
Uh, you know, there's no fiscal responsibility.
00:09:56.080
We still got the, uh, massive deficits, but, but we got, we got tax cuts, right?
00:10:01.940
And we, um, you know, reduced regulations here and there.
00:10:11.400
We got, we got tax cuts and reduced regulations.
00:10:14.080
I'm not saying that stuff isn't important, but that's easy.
00:10:19.700
Um, for considering all of the power that Republicans had for, for two years, they controlled the
00:10:27.280
entire government and this is what we get a tax cut bill and reduce a few regulations and
00:10:37.840
All of the, the major, um, important, significant things that we put them in there to do, they
00:10:49.040
are not, did not have not done repeal Obamacare didn't happen.
00:10:57.660
Didn't have, it's not even beginning to happen.
00:11:00.060
Um, uh, defund Planned Parenthood not happening.
00:11:03.340
Um, and oh yeah, get us concert, get us Supreme court justices that are actual constitutionalists
00:11:14.500
And apparently it's looking like that didn't happen either.
00:11:19.940
So it is a huge failure on all of these fronts, but we're supposed to be happy because of tax
00:11:26.980
And it, and what boggles my mind is that some conservatives apparently are happy with that.
00:11:42.880
We need to start demanding a lot more and expecting a lot more and holding people accountable when
00:11:51.080
Um, all right, um, here's something interesting.
00:11:56.740
Mark Perry, an economics professor shared, uh, shared something on his Twitter yesterday.
00:12:01.720
It's from the Bureau of labor statistics and it lists the top 20 most dangerous jobs based
00:12:10.940
I want to read, um, hold on, I got to pull this up.
00:12:15.900
Uh, these are the most dangerous jobs in America.
00:12:18.560
Um, the, the most recent tally anyway, of the most dangerous jobs in America.
00:12:23.160
So we have, um, number one logging workers that is 95% male.
00:12:33.180
So I want you to, as I, as I read these jobs, um, I want you to notice if there's anything
00:12:41.040
So number one, logging workers, the most, the most dangerous, the most fatal job in
00:12:46.200
a, in America, 95% male fishing workers, 99.9% male number three, aircraft pilots, 94.8%
00:12:57.020
And as someone with a fear of flying, the fact that aircraft pilot is the third most dangerous
00:13:01.780
job in America, it makes me extremely uncomfortable.
00:13:04.220
Uh, number four roofers, 91.4% male, um, refuse collectors, uh, 98% male truck drivers, 94%
00:13:16.680
male, iron and steel workers, um, 98% male farmers and ranchers, 75% male agricultural workers,
00:13:26.900
And then it goes on and then the, the, the 20th most dangerous job is mining and that
00:13:36.520
So I bring this up just so that this is something that you can keep in mind when people complain
00:13:43.260
about the supposed, uh, the supposed wage gap, a wage gap that all but disappears.
00:13:49.960
Of course, when you look at comparable jobs and comparable levels of skill and education,
00:13:55.220
et cetera, um, the way they get that wage gap figure, the 75, 75 cents on the dollar that
00:14:01.800
women make or whatever it is, the way they get it is to broadly compare all men in the
00:14:06.960
workforce to all women without at all accounting for the actual jobs being done.
00:14:11.760
So the 75 cents on a dollar figure is of course, meaningless, but if you were wondering where
00:14:20.840
Uh, if you were wondering, you know, okay, fine, we're not, we're not taking into account
00:14:24.140
the jobs that they're doing, the skill level training, any of that, uh, hours work that
00:14:28.800
doesn't take into account, but still there is this difference when you lump everything
00:14:35.040
It's because men do the more dangerous, the more physically demanding jobs and they are
00:14:42.720
For comparison's sake, there are some jobs that are dominated by women.
00:14:47.600
So according to USA Today, here are some of the jobs that are dominated by women, um, public
00:14:53.960
relations specialist, um, social and community service manager, production planning and expediting
00:15:01.620
clerks, parking enforcement workers, technical writers, um, non-farm animal caretakers, fabric
00:15:12.000
and apparel pattern makers, writers and authors, opticians, uh, bakers, graders and sorters, public
00:15:22.300
relations managers, pharmacists, natural science managers, and veterinarians.
00:15:27.160
That is the number one, uh, female dominated field.
00:15:33.520
Those are, uh, most of them important jobs, but none of them are dangerous.
00:15:39.080
Um, none of them are anywhere near as physically demanding.
00:15:44.340
And so this tells us why this difference exists on top of other reasons too.
00:15:58.640
I think I also read that men are more willing to travel, uh, you know, further for a job.
00:16:03.940
And that goes down to, it's just, it's just a matter of priorities.
00:16:07.140
You know, women tend to prioritize other things like their families and their relationship.
00:16:18.140
I think men, as men, we should value those things more than a lot of us apparently do.
00:16:24.100
But, uh, not to say that people who, who work a lot of hours don't value their families,
00:16:30.500
but I'm saying, you know, it, it, it, you speaking generally, men tend to put more of
00:16:36.600
a value on sort of career ambition and succeeding in the job.
00:16:40.880
And women tend to put more value on the family.
00:16:43.400
And the thing is the family is the more important thing.
00:16:48.000
And men are simply more willing to work these jobs.
00:16:50.500
If you look at how dominated these fields are by men, logging, uh, fishing, mining, mining
00:17:00.720
But also, you know, it, it pays pretty well most of the time, but why is it 99.9% male?
00:17:09.300
Because women are excluded because women are getting, you know, you've got a whole bunch
00:17:12.860
of women that just really want to work in the mines, but they aren't, um, they aren't,
00:17:17.900
they aren't allowed to long haul truck drivers.
00:17:26.860
Is it because all these women are clamoring to be long haul truck drivers, but they aren't
00:17:30.440
allowed to, or is it just that women for the most part have no interest at all in doing
00:17:47.820
One of the great power couples, um, in the world today is splitting up.
00:17:55.280
According to the Irish post, an Irish woman who married the ghost of a 300 year old pirate
00:18:04.240
Amanda Teague, um, married a Haitian pirate named Jack earlier this year.
00:18:10.000
I don't know if you remember hearing that story.
00:18:12.360
At the time anyway, it was a great, uh, romantic story.
00:18:15.360
The wedding took place on board a boat in international waters off the Irish coast.
00:18:19.700
And, um, everything seemed to be going well at first, but now, and it hasn't even been
00:18:27.420
And now apparently they're breaking up, which is, which is really the second bad break for
00:18:32.880
Jack because he was executed, um, on the high seas in the 1700s.
00:18:46.620
In fact, I, I heard that they split up after a bad argument.
00:18:50.080
I, I guess they just weren't soul mateys, but you know, I hear, I hear he's, he's hooking
00:18:59.700
Um, and the fact is that relationship has been on the last leg for a while.
00:19:04.400
So they tried to patch it up, but it just didn't work.
00:19:10.560
Suppose the, the, the romance was dead in their relationship.
00:19:13.160
It was hard too, because she wanted him to talk more, but he wouldn't say boo.
00:19:19.500
Plus, I mean, he could never set foot in their living room, which was hard, but I'm sure he'll
00:19:24.820
do fine on the dating scene because, um, you know, he's, he's a, he's a good looking ghost.
00:19:28.520
And as I say, if you got it haunted, um, ghouls just want to have fun.
00:19:35.960
And the thing is they would get into fights because the pirates parrot, his ghost parrot
00:19:40.860
would poop all over the place and his wife would say, why is the parrot doing that?
00:19:45.480
And the pirate would say, well, Hey, look, it's totally parrot normal.
00:19:52.560
I, I was trying to go for paranormal, but parrot and just, it didn't work.
00:20:03.340
I could go on for another five minutes with the pun.
00:20:04.980
By the way, soul matey was, that's a, that is a double pun because you got the matey for
00:20:09.800
the, for the pirate soul, S O U L soul, because he's dead.
00:20:26.840
I'm Michael Knowles of the Michael Knowles show today.
00:20:34.480
And Chuck and Nancy make a huge mistake during an explosive Oval Office meeting.
