The Matt Walsh Show - Ep. 1648 - Shiloh Hendrix Gets Charged For Saying A Racial Slur. Your Free Speech Rights Are Gone.

00:00:00.000 Today on the Matt Wall Show, local authorities are planning to charge Shiloh Hendricks with a crime for saying a racial slur.

00:00:05.040 Apparently, our free speech rights no longer include mean words.

00:00:07.900 Also, the Trump administration plans to ship 600,000 Chinese students into the country.

00:00:11.740 They say that if we don't bring in all these Chinese communists, a bunch of universities might go out of business. 1.00

00:00:16.200 But why is that a bad thing?

00:00:18.080 And the mayor of Chicago says we can't solve crime by putting criminals in jail.

00:00:21.740 We solve it by spending more money on housing and education.

00:00:24.340 But how has that strategy panned out?

00:00:25.660 We'll take a look.

00:00:26.400 Finally, of course, the big news of the week and the century.

00:00:28.900 Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey are engaged.

00:00:31.360 Got to talk about that.

00:00:32.080 Very important news.

00:01:10.800 Well, now that's great advice most of the time for most things, but not so much for a cell phone.

00:01:15.300 See, over time, the battery life fades, the processor can't keep up, and it's fallen in the toilet one too many times.

00:02:06.540 If you can bring yourself to think back to the Obama years, you'll remember that the so-called religious right was relentlessly mocked for making various predictions that, in the eyes of enlightened liberals, couldn't possibly come to pass.

00:02:19.020 The religious right said that Roe v. Wade was not an infallible decision and that it could be overturned. 0.65

00:02:24.400 They said gay marriage was an abomination that would pave the way for various forms of child abuse, including the evil of transgenderism.

00:02:31.240 They said religious freedoms would be suspended and that LGBT activists would use the power of government to force Christians to violate their deeply held beliefs. 0.55

00:02:39.120 They said that abortion would give rise to a broader culture of death where euthanasia became commonplace, especially in godless places like Canada and California.

00:02:47.740 All of these predictions, of course, have turned out to be right on the money.

00:02:51.740 Pretty much everyone, regardless of their political affiliation, can see that now.

00:02:56.640 The religious right is owed an apology by many, many people.

00:03:01.560 But there's one prediction of the religious right, one that was endlessly derided for pretty much the entirety of Barack Obama's presidency,

00:03:08.920 that still gets a very bad rap, even though it was also an accurate prediction.

00:03:14.440 And I'm talking about the alleged moral panic about the possibility that Democrats would soon implement a variant of Sharia law in the United States.

00:03:24.140 Now, surely we were told thousands of times this was a classic example of bigotry and Islamophobia.

00:03:30.700 Barack Obama is supposedly a Christian after all. 0.51

00:03:32.900 How could he or anyone else possibly transform America's legal system into something resembling the Islamic legal code? 1.00

00:03:39.920 That was a conspiracy theory, the fact-checkers told us.

00:03:43.060 It was a lie concocted by Fox News to brainwash older voters who don't know any better.

00:03:48.900 Even today, many conservatives still hold this view.

00:03:51.680 For many self-described members of the right, it's still unthinkable that America's legal system,

00:03:55.420 easily the most durable and functional system in the West,

00:03:58.560 could one day look a lot like the Sharia courts in, say, Mogadishu.

00:04:02.900 Now, the problem is that for reasons that were never fully explained to the American public,

00:04:07.080 we have imported hundreds of thousands of Somalis into the United States.

00:04:11.580 And when you're talking about numbers that large, then inevitably transformation will occur.

00:04:18.140 This transformation won't simply involve the construction of mosques,

00:04:22.480 the establishment of Somali sporting leagues,

00:04:25.340 the commencement of regular Islamic celebrations in the streets and all that.

00:04:29.760 It will also involve the implementation of a new legal system,

00:04:33.520 one that has absolutely nothing in common with any Western tradition, much less our own.

00:04:38.600 And indeed, that's exactly what has taken place in Minnesota, one of America's largest states.

00:04:43.580 In Minnesota, America's system of laws is now effectively defunct.

00:04:47.360 It has been replaced, as the religious right had warned,

00:04:50.060 with a primitive and oppressive legal code that is far more in common with Sharia law 1.00

00:04:54.820 than anything the founders put in writing.

00:04:57.120 And if that sounds like hyperbole, well, ask yourself this.

00:05:01.420 When you saw the story of Shiloh Hendricks a few months ago,

00:05:04.440 what did you think would happen to her?

00:05:07.720 In a case you've forgotten, in April, shortly after 6 p.m.,

00:05:10.500 Shiloh Hendricks was at a park in Rochester, Minnesota, with her 18-month-old son.

00:05:15.100 That's when another boy around the age of 8 went rubbaging through her diaper bag

00:05:18.980 and removed an applesauce pouch from it.

00:05:22.560 Eventually, Shiloh Hendricks chased the boy down, retrieved her property, 0.99

00:05:26.180 though not before she uttered, apparently, a few racial slurs.

00:05:29.400 And that's when a Somali man, who was also there, started filming.

00:05:34.840 Now, we'll play some of this just as a refresher,

00:05:37.320 although the slurs will be censored.

00:05:39.540 And, of course, you've already seen this video, but here it is again. 0.97

00:05:42.360 Did you call him a n***a child? 0.70

00:05:45.320 Did you call the child a n***a word? 0.98

00:05:47.820 It is my own business. 0.99

00:05:49.100 You call him a n***a. 0.98

00:05:51.020 Okay, why don't you have the boss to say it right now again? 0.99

00:05:56.640 All right, that's what I'm saying. 0.98

00:06:01.940 Nobody dig into your n***a. 1.00

00:06:04.160 You just dig your dumb n***a. 1.00

00:06:05.640 That little kid, you call him a n***a? 1.00

00:06:07.600 Yeah. 0.99

00:06:07.820 That little child?

00:06:08.860 He acts like one is going to do all of it.

00:06:10.240 Are you about to hit him?

00:06:11.220 You chase him here? 1.00

00:06:12.120 He took my n***a son's stuff. 0.89

00:06:14.220 So that gives you the right to call the child five-year-old an n***a word?

00:06:18.240 If that's what he's going to act like.

00:06:19.260 That's what you're going to call him?

00:06:20.360 If that's what he's going to act like?

00:06:22.220 You know, that's a hate speech. 0.98

00:06:23.780 And you can be a n***a for that. 1.00

00:06:25.240 I don't give a n***a. 1.00

00:06:26.440 Huh. 0.97

00:06:28.540 Okay, we'll see about that, what the internet has to say about you.

00:06:32.020 Again, when you saw this story back in April,

00:06:33.780 what did you think would happen to Shiloh Hendricks?

00:06:38.460 There were really only two options that anybody considered.

00:06:40.540 The first possibility was that Shiloh would be canceled by the outraged mob.

00:06:43.920 Her life would be destroyed for saying a few naughty words in frustration.

00:06:48.160 The other possibility was that conservatives would do the right thing and fight back.

00:06:52.200 They'd raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for Shiloh

00:06:54.820 and send a very clear message that cancellation campaigns don't work anymore.

00:06:58.680 That's not because conservatives support the use of bad language in public parks

00:07:02.700 or they support using racial slurs.

00:07:04.860 It's because the right to freedom of speech is paramount.

00:07:08.540 And also people are tired of these cancellation mobs.

00:07:11.940 And the only way to take power away from them is to respond in that way.

00:07:16.060 What no one seriously expected, because it would be too preposterous,

00:07:21.220 is that government officials in Minnesota would attempt to throw Shiloh in prison.

00:07:27.120 I mean, after all, in the United States, we have something that Somalia doesn't have. 1.00

00:07:30.440 We have a First Amendment.

00:07:31.260 And the First Amendment prevents the government from arresting American citizens

00:07:34.760 for saying bad words.

00:07:36.180 And that includes racial slurs.

00:07:38.320 It includes speech that most people find highly offensive.

00:07:41.420 We aren't Canada.

00:07:42.660 We're not North Korea.

00:07:44.200 So unless you're threatening to murder someone or assault them,

00:07:47.220 which Shiloh wasn't doing,

00:07:48.680 then you won't be prosecuted.

00:07:51.380 That's how things work in the United States.

00:07:53.280 That's how things have always worked here.

00:07:55.500 So how could anyone put Shiloh Hendricks in handcuffs over this?

00:07:59.900 Well, that would have been a reasonable question, say, 20 years ago.

00:08:03.420 But a lot has changed since then.

00:08:04.860 And most notably, large portions of the state of Minnesota,

00:08:07.220 practically speaking, are no longer part of the United States.

00:08:09.920 More than 100,000 residents of Minnesota speak Somali.

00:08:14.000 There are so many Somalis in Minnesota that they hold their own Independence Day celebrations.

00:08:18.480 They're electing public officials who explicitly promise to work on behalf of Somalia

00:08:23.180 rather than Americans.

00:08:24.080 And now they're carrying over the great Somali legal tradition as well,

00:08:28.060 which means, among other things, no freedom of speech.

00:08:31.120 If you upset Somalis in Minnesota, then they're going to try to put you in jail.

00:08:36.600 And that is why yesterday, the city of Rochester, Minnesota,

00:08:40.020 announced that it plans to bring criminal charges against Shiloh Hendricks.

00:08:44.780 This is directly from the city's website.

00:08:46.780 Quote,

00:08:46.900 The Rochester City Attorney's Office is filing a complaint summons

00:08:50.120 stemming from the April 28th, 2025 incident that occurred at Roy Sutherland Park,

00:08:54.960 a playground at Soldiers Field Park.

00:08:57.720 The draft complaint charges Shiloh Hendricks with three counts of disorderly conduct

00:09:01.640 under Minnesota Statute 609.72,

00:09:05.320 a misdemeanor-level charge with a maximum of 90 days in jail and or a $1,000 fine.

00:09:09.840 Yes, the city of Rochester is going to attempt to imprison Shiloh Hendricks

00:09:15.480 for saying nasty things to some Somalis in a park,

00:09:18.500 including a child who stole her property and a Somali man who began harassing her afterwards

00:09:22.280 and putting her on camera.

00:09:23.880 Because of that, Shiloh is supposedly guilty of disorderly conduct.

00:09:28.160 And in an attempt to explain these charges,

00:09:29.980 the mayor of Rochester, Kim Norton, put out the following statement.

00:09:32.860 As I read this, we'll put an image of this mayor up on the screen.

00:09:35.560 If you're a podcast listener, if you're listening to the audio,

00:09:37.660 well, it's, you know, she looks exactly as you would imagine.

00:09:43.080 But here is the statement, quote,

00:09:44.540 This was a situation that deeply affected many people,

00:09:47.480 especially our communities of color, and caused real turmoil in our community.

00:09:51.380 We acknowledge the lasting impact this incident has had,

00:09:54.640 not only on those directly involved and across our community,

00:09:57.100 but also in the broader conversations happening at the state and national level.

00:10:00.940 These moments remind us of the complexity and far-reaching impacts of situations like this.

00:10:05.020 The city remains committed to staying engaged and proceeding with transparency and care,

00:10:09.240 continuing efforts that support accountability and progress in Rochester.

00:10:13.960 Now, meanwhile, the city added that, quote,

00:10:15.480 This matter involved a large amount of evidence and required careful consideration

00:10:18.660 of potential charging options across multiple offices.

00:10:21.720 As the legal process moves forward,

00:10:23.080 the city recognizes not only the significant attention and emotions surrounding this case,

00:10:26.220 but also the complex and lasting impact situations like this have

00:10:29.700 on communities of color and our broader community.

00:10:33.900 Now, these statements taken together are an admission by the city

00:10:37.240 that Shiloh Hendricks is being prosecuted for political reasons.

00:10:40.700 By their own admission, the city was concerned about the attitudes of various demographic groups

00:10:45.600 before deciding whether to bring a criminal case.

00:10:49.100 Specifically, they were worried about what Somalis thought,

00:10:51.660 and because Somalis were deeply offended,

00:10:53.400 they've decided to suspend the First Amendment effectively in Rochester.

00:10:56.760 Now, before we get into the specifics of the criminal complaint,

00:11:00.220 which is even more of a farce than you're already imagining,

00:11:04.120 it needs to be said that, as quickly as possible,

00:11:06.720 Shiloh Hendricks should file a federal civil rights lawsuit against the city of Rochester. 1.00

00:11:10.720 The mayor, Kim Norton, should be arrested in the same way that Douglas Mackey was jailed

00:11:14.940 by the Biden administration.

00:11:17.280 You remember that case.

00:11:18.100 They charged Douglas Mackey with committing a conspiracy against rights,

00:11:22.860 meaning that he supposedly conspired to infringe on the right to vote

00:11:25.480 by making a meme.

00:11:28.100 Well, Kim Norton is actually engaging in a much more obvious conspiracy against rights. 1.00

00:11:32.360 She's openly admitting that she's attempting to eliminate the First Amendment 1.00

00:11:35.180 rights of women like Shiloh Hendricks.

00:11:38.900 Now, it becomes extremely obvious when you look at this criminal complaint.

00:11:41.820 We'll put that up on the screen here.

00:11:43.900 These are the three counts.

00:11:45.780 They're all the same, but they all apply to separate, quote, victims.

00:11:49.840 And here's what they say, quote,

00:11:50.940 On or about April 28, 2025, within the city of Rochester, Shiloh Hendricks,

00:11:54.920 while in a public or private place, and knowing or having reasonable grounds to know

00:11:58.420 that it would or would tend to alarm, anger, disturb others, or provoke an assault

00:12:02.420 or breach of the peace, did wrongfully and unlawfully engage in offensive, obscene,

00:12:06.400 abusive, boisterous, or noisy conduct, or in offensive, obscene, or abusive language

00:12:11.340 that would reasonably tend to arouse alarm, anger, or resentment in others.

00:12:15.860 Yes, saying something that other people resent is a crime now.

00:12:23.060 Now, already you've probably noticed the problem here.

00:12:26.420 What this law is intended to outlaw, very clearly, is behavior that's so disruptive

00:12:31.360 that it causes an unreasonable disruption to other people's lives.

00:12:35.300 So, for example, if you're playing loud music at a party at 2 a.m. and people can't sleep,

00:12:40.760 then that would qualify as noisy behavior that disturbs others and breaches the peace.

00:12:47.780 Along the same lines, if you block the doorway of a building and tell everyone that

00:12:51.180 they'll have to fight you if they want to enter, then you can be accused of alarming others

00:12:55.120 and provoking an assault.

00:12:57.520 So, those would be reasonable examples of disorderly conduct under this law

00:13:03.140 and under really any law that deals with disorderly conduct.

00:13:06.340 But what happened in this case is that after the Somalis and liberal women of Rochester 0.96

00:13:10.340 saw the viral video, they went looking through the law to find some way to charge Shiloh Hendricks.

00:13:17.120 And then they deliberately interpreted this particular law in a highly literal

00:13:20.480 and, frankly, demented manner.

00:13:22.980 They saw the words offensive language and thought they had a case.

00:13:27.260 The problem is that this law, like every other law, is subordinate to the U.S. Constitution.

00:13:30.880 You cannot read any law in such a way as to conflict with the Constitution.

00:13:37.140 As applied to Shiloh Hendricks, that's clearly what they're doing here.

00:13:41.000 Shiloh Hendricks did not disrupt anybody's life.

00:13:43.580 She didn't cause a breach of the peace.

00:13:45.580 There's no evidence that anybody was unreasonably alarmed by her actions in that park.

00:13:51.280 No one felt that their physical safety was in jeopardy because of Shiloh Hendricks.

00:13:56.260 And she didn't go to the park with the intention of causing any kind of disruption.

00:14:00.240 She responded to the fact that a Somali child had stolen her property and then ran away with it.

00:14:05.060 And she may have responded in a way verbally that was offensive to people, but you're allowed to do that.

00:14:11.460 Free speech.

00:14:13.180 You know, literally speech.

00:14:15.460 She was saying something.

00:14:16.360 She was expressing a point of view that you might not agree with and you find offensive,

00:14:20.600 but if that's not free speech, then free speech doesn't exist.

00:14:24.140 I mean, it really is that simple.

00:14:26.260 If saying the N-word in the park is not free speech, then we don't have free speech.

00:14:34.620 And this whole point is actually confirmed in the text of the complaint.

00:14:37.460 So let's put that on the screen here.

00:14:39.620 And as you can see, it states that a man identified as SHJ was in the park with his three children.

00:14:45.900 One of them, YJ, is eight years old and autistic.

00:14:48.540 The man, SHJ, told police that his son approached a diaper bag that belonged to someone else and he took an applesauce pouch from the bag.

00:14:56.240 And then YJ climbed the playground equipment in an attempt to get away from his father and from the defendant.

00:15:01.300 It was only at that point, according to the complaint, that defendant became very angry and shouted and repeatedly used a racial epithet.

00:15:06.980 But the rest of the complaint simply describes the video that we've already seen.

00:15:11.860 And then there's this paragraph at the end, quote, SHJ explained that YJ, as well as his other children, were very scared and troubled by defendants' hateful words and conduct.

00:15:19.720 Well, that's just too bad, isn't it?

00:15:23.040 This guy was scared and troubled by the defendant's hateful words and were supposed to care about his personal reaction for some reason.

00:15:30.340 The complaint does mention that other adults and children were in the park, but they don't include any information about their reactions, probably because, you know, they didn't have much of a reaction or they didn't care.

00:15:40.680 So that's what we're left with.

00:15:42.240 The Somali whose child stole something felt scared and troubled by the fact that she was angry and so now she has to go to jail. 0.96

00:15:49.720 Now, of course, Shiloh also felt troubled.

00:15:52.620 That's what happens when someone steals your property and runs away with it.

00:15:56.160 It's also what happens when you flood Minnesota with Somalis who are incapable of assimilating with American culture and who degrade the quality of life for actual American citizens every single day. 1.00

00:16:05.580 But we're not supposed to care about Shiloh's perception of events.

00:16:08.240 We're just supposed to be mortified that she said words that troubled and scared other people.

00:16:13.040 Never mind the fact that it's not a crime to say words that other people find troubling.

00:16:18.120 Unless those words are threats of violence, which this wasn't.

00:16:23.360 But in Rochester, they're not using our legal system anymore.

00:16:26.300 They're using Somalia's. 1.00

00:16:28.460 This is a case that merits the immediate involvement of the DOJ's Civil Rights Division.

00:16:32.280 There is no way the Trump administration can permit a local government to override the constitutional rights of an American citizen.

00:16:37.840 And if this continues, we'll end up like so many other Western countries that are now effectively governed by barbarians. 0.98

00:16:45.540 That's the case in Dundee, Scotland.

00:16:47.940 You may have seen this video from the other day.

00:16:49.740 A 14-year-old girl and her 12-year-old sister were being harassed by an adult man.

00:16:53.880 Apparently, one of those asylum seekers were told about.

00:16:57.300 And eventually, she produces a weapon to ward the man off.

00:17:00.600 And then what ends up happening?

00:17:02.340 She's the one who gets arrested.

00:17:04.040 Watch.

00:17:04.280 She's the one who gets arrested.

00:17:35.000 Well, we all know they're going to make a Netflix show about this.

00:17:37.620 And politicians in Europe are going to force people to watch it.

00:17:41.460 They're going to portray this teenage girl as a monster for defending herself when her own government abandoned her. 0.95

00:17:47.840 That's how these things work overseas.

00:17:50.360 Quoting from the Scottish Daily Express,

00:17:51.820 An axe-wielding schoolgirl from Dundee, axe-wielding schoolgirl, who is said to have been defending a young female from a migrant man, has become a social media hero.

00:18:02.380 The girl, age 14, has been charged with possession of a bladed weapon after police were called to the scene.

00:18:06.880 The footage was taken on Saturday afternoon and shows two girls on a grass verged by the busy Cooper Angus Road.

00:18:15.700 A man's voice is heard saying, show the knife, show the knife.

00:18:18.640 The second girl then screams, get the F away from her, before the other younger youngster holds up the two weapons. 0.99

00:18:24.200 The second girl shouts, don't effing touch my little sister. 1.00

00:18:27.340 She's 12.

00:18:27.880 Well, this is what happens when Western governments sit by passively as foreigners invade in unprecedented numbers. 0.99

00:18:34.560 Eventually, the legal system starts working for the foreigners against the native citizens.

00:18:39.540 That's why the Shiloh Hendricks criminal case simply cannot be allowed to stand.

00:18:44.760 It's also why, to bring this back to the topic that we discussed yesterday,

00:18:48.640 I really have no patience whatsoever for the free speech argument for burning the American flag.

00:18:54.720 We don't have free speech in this country.

00:18:59.140 I mean, if they're going to throw people in jail for saying a bad word,

00:19:02.280 then yeah, I want you thrown in jail for desecrating my flag.

00:19:07.600 Okay, no more playing by two different sets of rules.

00:19:10.260 It's going to be one set of rules.

00:19:12.760 And in the 1980s, when the Supreme Court decided that flag burning was constitutional right,

00:19:17.900 you can make the argument that the First Amendment still meant something in the United States.

00:19:22.000 But it doesn't anymore.

00:19:22.960 We have simply imported too many foreigners, including people from the Sharia countries 1.00

00:19:27.720 that the religious right warned about, for our constitution to have any effect in places like Minnesota.

00:19:33.280 The Somalis demanded a political prosecution in defiance of our constitution,

00:19:38.180 and Democrats in Minnesota are determined to give it to them.

00:19:42.600 Those are the rules that have now been established.

00:19:44.700 And until all the Somalis are deported, 1.00

00:19:46.920 and the Democrats who launched this prosecution of Shiloh Hendricks are removed from office,

00:19:51.320 is we have two choices.

00:19:53.220 We can either ignore what's happening and watch as they throw us in prison one by one.

00:19:58.100 We can end up like Scotland, in other words.

00:20:01.060 Or we can use every tool that's available, including the power of the federal government,

00:20:04.240 to prevent any more U.S. cities from transforming into precisely the kinds of lawless,

00:20:09.120 third-world dystopias that we were warned about not so long ago.

00:20:14.020 Those warnings were ignored at the time.

00:20:15.880 They were mocked over and over again.

00:20:17.480 But as the prosecution of Shiloh Hendricks makes clear,

00:20:19.800 those warnings were actually correct.

00:20:22.760 And we simply cannot ignore them anymore.

00:20:24.960 Now let's get to our five headlines.

00:20:34.040 You know, I was shocked to learn that the liver is actually the second largest organ in your body

00:20:37.880 and handles over 500 different functions that we barely even think about.

00:20:42.120 Well, here's the thing, though.

00:20:43.360 Over 30% of Americans have a sluggish liver,

00:20:45.540 and most of us don't even know it until it's too late.

00:20:48.060 That's why I'm excited to tell you about Dose for Your Liver.

00:20:50.860 This isn't just another supplement.

00:20:55.300 to cleanse your liver of unwanted elements while supporting digestion

00:20:58.600 and keeping your body's natural filter running smoothly.

00:21:02.040 What really impressed me were the clinical results.

00:21:04.400 In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study,

00:21:06.680 Dose for Your Liver actually lowered liver enzyme levels by 50%

00:21:10.140 and over 86% of participants.

00:21:12.040 And get this, one shot is equivalent to 17 shots of turmeric juice.

00:22:57.900 This country needs more people like that.

00:23:00.260 NBC News reports President Donald Trump's

00:23:02.500 latest comments about allowing hundreds of thousands

00:23:04.680 of Chinese international students in the United States

00:23:06.740 have drawn criticism from some of the most

00:23:08.220 outspoken members of the Republican Party.

00:23:10.120 Head of his meeting

00:23:10.720 with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung

00:23:15.980 at the White House on Monday,

00:23:18.460 Trump told reporters that he plans to allow

00:23:19.860 600,000 Chinese students into the country,

00:23:21.880 a figure of more than double the number

00:23:23.340 in the United States right now.

00:23:26.700 While Trump stressed the United States'

00:23:28.280 important relationship with the country,

00:23:29.480 other high-profile members of the party disagreed.

00:23:32.100 Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene

00:23:33.440 railed against the idea on social media.

00:23:35.060 Why are we allowing 600,000 students from China 0.66

00:23:37.040 to replace our American students' opportunities? 0.84

00:23:39.360 We should never allow that.

00:23:41.320 Yeah, I agree with Marjorie Taylor Greene on this.

00:23:44.020 Why do we need 600,000 Chinese students here? 0.93

00:23:48.580 Why wouldn't we give those opportunities

00:23:50.500 to American students?

00:23:52.600 Well, the Trump administration

00:23:53.740 has given an answer to that question.

00:23:57.680 Why, you know, there's 300,000 here now,

00:24:01.240 apparently, which is already too many.

00:24:02.980 I don't know why we have any.

00:24:05.060 Trump, for some reason, wants to double that.

00:24:08.260 I don't know what problem that solves for us.

00:24:11.960 But what's the reason for it?

00:24:13.840 Well, here is Howard Lutnick,

00:24:15.640 the Commerce Secretary,

00:24:17.140 on Fox News a couple of nights ago,

00:24:19.500 explaining why this is so important.

00:24:21.320 Watch.

00:24:22.140 Mr. Secretary, with all due respect,

00:24:25.800 how is allowing 600,000 students

00:24:28.460 from the communist country of China

00:24:30.540 putting America first?

00:24:32.200 Well, the president's point of view

00:24:35.100 is that what would happen

00:24:36.800 if you didn't have those 600,000 students

00:24:39.140 is that you'd empty them from the top,

00:24:41.780 all the students would go up to better schools,

00:24:44.380 and the bottom 15% of universities and colleges

00:24:48.340 would go out of business in America.

00:24:49.900 So his view is he's taking a rational economic view,

00:24:54.560 which is classic Donald Trump looking at higher education

00:24:58.060 and saying, until we modify that.

00:25:00.660 That just helps Harvard and UCLA and UCAL Berkeley.

00:25:04.240 And I mean, you all help in those schools.

00:25:06.700 Why?

00:25:07.100 They're like, you know,

00:25:08.640 basically factories of anti-American propaganda.

00:25:11.480 Now they're getting a big influx of cash

00:25:13.620 because of the Chinese students.

00:25:15.460 I mean, I know President Trump

00:25:18.120 has always been very pro-Chinese student.

00:25:20.280 I just don't understand it.

00:25:21.940 For the life of me,

00:25:23.180 those are 600,000 spots that American kids won't get.

00:25:26.700 Well, that is, I'm sorry to say, 1.00

00:25:28.980 really, really stupid. 0.99

00:25:31.180 To be clear, the argument 1.00

00:25:32.980 is not that bringing in Chinese students

00:25:36.220 will benefit America somehow

00:25:37.820 because of all the engineers and doctors

00:25:39.620 that we're importing or whatever,

00:25:41.740 because these are foreign nationals.

00:25:42.960 These are Chinese citizens.

00:25:44.520 They're going to come here,

00:25:45.940 go to school,

00:25:47.100 and then they're going to go back to China.

00:25:49.300 So that's not the argument.

00:25:51.500 The argument is that

00:25:52.300 if we don't bring in all these Chinese students, 1.00

00:25:54.960 then a bunch of universities

00:25:56.140 will go out of business.

00:25:58.340 That's what they're saying.

00:26:00.260 So what you're telling us, Howard,

00:26:01.480 is that a large number of American universities

00:26:03.580 need Chinese money.

00:26:05.120 They need support from communist China 0.89

00:26:07.560 to stay open.

00:26:09.100 And if we take that support away,

00:26:10.480 then they'll close.

00:26:11.340 That's what you're telling us.

00:26:13.020 And if that's the case,

00:26:14.220 then why exactly shouldn't they close down?

00:26:18.960 Why are we trying to keep them open?

00:26:21.920 If stopping Chinese students from coming here

00:26:24.140 means that a bunch of American universities

00:26:25.640 that scam American kids 0.99

00:26:27.460 and rely on communist money

00:26:28.580 go out of business,

00:26:29.540 that's a bonus.

00:26:31.260 That's a selling point.

00:26:32.540 That's a good thing, obviously.

00:26:35.580 I mean, even aside from the China issue,

00:26:38.000 it would still be a good thing

00:26:40.280 if 15%,

00:26:41.280 if 30% of American universities

00:26:44.240 went out of business.

00:26:46.260 These institutions have been scamming

00:26:48.020 American kids

00:26:48.860 out of collectively billions of dollars

00:26:51.240 for a very long time now.

00:26:53.320 It's the worst scam in history.

00:26:56.080 So why are we acting like it's a tragedy

00:26:57.960 if some of them go out of business?

00:26:59.140 And in particular, again,

00:27:00.040 if they are relying on communist money,

00:27:02.320 which in a way makes sense,

00:27:05.160 these are communist institutions,

00:27:06.660 most of them,

00:27:07.560 but they're relying on communist money

00:27:08.660 to stay open,

00:27:09.460 that's all the more reason

00:27:10.240 why them closing is a good thing.

00:27:14.280 Trump himself addressed this yesterday,

00:27:16.500 and if you thought

00:27:17.840 that Howard Lutnick's argument

00:27:19.320 for bringing in 600,000 Chinese students

00:27:22.000 was bad,

00:27:23.820 well, wait till you hear

00:27:24.900 what Trump has to say about it.

00:27:26.720 Listen.

00:27:26.880 We're getting along very well with China,

00:27:29.840 and I'm getting along very well

00:27:31.820 with President Xi.

00:27:33.020 I think it's very insulting

00:27:34.140 to say your students can't come here

00:27:36.380 because they'll go out

00:27:37.760 and they'll start building schools

00:27:38.960 and they'll be able to survive it.

00:27:41.560 But I like that their students come here.

00:27:43.440 I like that other country students come here.

00:27:46.420 And you know what would happen

00:27:47.380 if they didn't?

00:27:47.980 Our college system would go to hell

00:27:50.020 very quickly.

00:27:51.160 You'd have,

00:27:51.800 and it wouldn't be the top colleges.

00:27:53.380 It would be colleges that struggle

00:27:56.040 on the bottom.

00:27:57.720 And you take out 300,000

00:27:59.580 or 600,000 students out of the system.

00:28:02.560 I like having,

00:28:04.020 and I told this to President Xi,

00:28:06.080 that we're honored

00:28:06.780 to have their students here.

00:28:08.260 Now, with that,

00:28:09.120 we check and we're careful

00:28:10.240 and we see who's there

00:28:11.820 and Marco wants that.

00:28:13.120 We spoke.

00:28:13.560 We're in the same position.

00:28:15.440 But we have a tremendous college system,

00:28:17.720 the best in the world,

00:28:18.580 nobody even close.

00:28:19.360 That's why China sends them here. 1.00

00:28:21.200 And you can call it an industry

00:28:23.100 if you want,

00:28:23.860 but you're taking about millions

00:28:25.760 of people.

00:28:27.040 And I'm honored to have

00:28:28.720 the students from China come here.

00:28:31.460 And they're,

00:28:32.880 we're just getting along

00:28:34.040 very well with China.

00:28:35.740 It's insulting,

00:28:37.060 he says.

00:28:38.900 It's insulting to not bring in

00:28:41.640 hundreds of thousands

00:28:42.980 of Chinese students.

00:28:45.300 I mean,

00:28:45.840 that's really his argument.

00:28:47.040 You just heard him say it.

00:28:49.080 Well,

00:28:49.360 it would be,

00:28:50.000 it'd be insulting.

00:28:50.680 We wouldn't want to insult them.

00:28:55.280 It might hurt

00:28:56.220 their feelings.

00:28:58.600 Now, yeah,

00:28:59.380 you might think

00:29:00.020 that it doesn't benefit America

00:29:01.200 to bring in a bunch

00:29:01.980 of Chinese communists,

00:29:03.760 put them into our universities,

00:29:05.820 take those opportunities

00:29:07.180 away,

00:29:07.600 away from actual

00:29:08.560 American citizens.

00:29:09.460 You might think

00:29:10.120 that's a bad thing,

00:29:10.880 but,

00:29:11.660 but,

00:29:12.240 but think about

00:29:13.640 how they would feel

00:29:14.640 if we didn't let that happen.

00:29:16.020 So these are the two reasons

00:29:19.660 that we are given

00:29:20.720 by the administration

00:29:21.860 for shipping in

00:29:23.120 600,000

00:29:24.100 communist Chinese students.

00:29:25.700 One

00:29:25.960 is that

00:29:27.140 if we don't do it,

00:29:28.620 then the colleges

00:29:29.360 that rely on

00:29:30.500 Chinese communist money

00:29:31.440 will go out of business.

00:29:33.040 And two,

00:29:34.480 and we don't want that to happen

00:29:35.500 for some reason.

00:29:37.320 And then the other reason

00:29:38.820 is that

00:29:39.480 it would hurt their feelings

00:29:40.960 if,

00:29:42.200 if we don't allow them in.

00:29:43.540 And that's not even me

00:29:46.340 making a straw man

00:29:47.460 of the argument

00:29:48.320 that the Trump administration

00:29:49.580 is making.

00:29:50.380 These,

00:29:50.620 I mean,

00:29:51.040 those are the arguments

00:29:52.100 given to us

00:29:52.860 by the commerce secretary

00:29:54.060 and the president

00:29:55.160 of the United States. 0.99

00:29:57.540 It's completely ridiculous. 0.99

00:29:59.260 And, 0.97

00:29:59.780 and it should not

00:30:02.220 be allowed to happen.

00:30:03.940 All right,

00:30:04.440 a couple of weeks

00:30:04.960 into the federal takeover

00:30:06.540 of DC

00:30:06.980 and the early returns

00:30:08.780 are very positive.

00:30:10.060 Crime is down.

00:30:12.040 There,

00:30:12.520 I don't think,

00:30:13.160 I'm pretty sure

00:30:13.940 there hasn't been

00:30:14.460 a single murder

00:30:15.540 in DC

00:30:16.520 since Trump

00:30:17.720 stepped in.

00:30:19.800 Which,

00:30:20.400 which should not

00:30:21.080 be impressive.

00:30:21.740 Like,

00:30:22.260 we should not be impressed

00:30:23.240 that an American city,

00:30:24.280 oh,

00:30:24.460 you went a whole week

00:30:25.280 without a murder.

00:30:26.180 That's amazing.

00:30:27.320 That shouldn't be impressive,

00:30:28.560 but it is

00:30:28.980 because we know that

00:30:29.900 what,

00:30:31.080 what,

00:30:31.540 what kind of

00:30:32.800 hellhole dystopias

00:30:34.140 these cities have become.

00:30:37.080 So,

00:30:37.760 murder's not happening,

00:30:39.000 crime's way down.

00:30:40.180 It turns out that

00:30:41.000 when you enforce

00:30:42.160 the law aggressively,

00:30:43.720 you get less crime.

00:30:46.240 Who could have possibly

00:30:47.180 seen that coming?

00:30:48.480 Now the question is

00:30:49.260 whether this strategy

00:30:50.360 should extend

00:30:51.000 to other American cities.

00:30:52.360 I think that it should.

00:30:53.460 I think the answer

00:30:53.960 is that it should.

00:30:55.080 Trump has indicated

00:30:55.800 that Chicago

00:30:56.440 may be the next in line,

00:30:58.060 but the mayor of Chicago,

00:30:59.600 Brandon Johnson,

00:31:00.160 is not a fan of that idea.

00:31:02.740 So,

00:31:03.340 let's hear what he has to say.

00:31:04.500 As the mayor of this city,

00:31:06.820 I can tell you

00:31:07.500 that Chicagoans

00:31:08.900 are not calling

00:31:10.020 for military occupation.

00:31:12.420 They are calling

00:31:13.200 for the same thing

00:31:14.080 that we've been calling for

00:31:15.260 for some time,

00:31:16.600 and that's investment.

00:31:18.400 What safe cities

00:31:19.280 across America

00:31:20.080 all have in common,

00:31:21.480 they invest in people,

00:31:22.900 and that's what

00:31:23.520 we're doing in Chicago.

00:31:24.880 We need the federal resources

00:31:26.540 to make sure

00:31:27.540 that we're building

00:31:28.180 more affordable housing,

00:31:29.620 expanding mental

00:31:30.500 and behavioral health care,

00:31:31.880 education,

00:31:32.700 all of these things

00:31:33.720 that could reduce crime

00:31:35.340 and provide

00:31:36.060 real community safety.

00:31:37.600 Instead of spending

00:31:38.500 hundreds of millions

00:31:39.340 of dollars

00:31:39.860 for a publicity stunt

00:31:41.540 to invoke chaos and terror,

00:31:43.740 the federal government

00:31:44.480 should spend that money

00:31:45.560 on proven solutions

00:31:46.960 to crime

00:31:48.140 and violence reduction.

00:31:49.820 We cannot incarcerate

00:31:51.200 our way

00:31:51.820 out of violence.

00:31:53.860 We've already tried that,

00:31:55.440 and we've ended up

00:31:56.180 with the largest

00:31:56.800 prison population

00:31:57.760 in the world

00:31:58.720 without solving

00:31:59.740 the problems

00:32:00.360 of crime and violence.

00:32:01.800 The addiction

00:32:02.400 on jails

00:32:03.380 and incarceration

00:32:04.280 in this country,

00:32:05.680 we have moved past that.

00:32:07.400 It is racist,

00:32:08.440 it is immoral,

00:32:09.460 it is unholy,

00:32:10.500 and it is not the way

00:32:11.720 to drive violence down.

00:32:15.660 We cannot return

00:32:17.080 to the same failed strategies

00:32:18.860 that got us here

00:32:20.020 in the first place.

00:32:21.500 Under the previous

00:32:22.240 presidential administration,

00:32:24.420 we requested

00:32:25.300 more federal resources

00:32:26.680 to address gun violence

00:32:28.400 in our city.

00:32:29.220 We continue

00:32:29.940 to make that same call.

00:32:31.240 We have made

00:32:32.440 significant progress

00:32:33.560 on our own,

00:32:34.700 but there is so much

00:32:35.640 more that we can do

00:32:36.700 if we had real support

00:32:38.260 from the federal government.

00:32:40.180 Brandon Johnson says,

00:32:41.860 we don't need to arrest

00:32:43.020 criminals

00:32:43.440 and put them in jail.

00:32:44.660 We cannot incarcerate

00:32:46.220 our way out of crime,

00:32:47.500 which is a,

00:32:48.240 that's a refrain,

00:32:49.060 a slogan we've now heard

00:32:50.040 from Democrats

00:32:50.680 a number of times.

00:32:54.300 They think that this is really,

00:32:55.660 this is really compelling stuff.

00:32:57.520 You can't incarcerate

00:32:58.820 your way out of crime.

00:33:01.860 Instead,

00:33:02.360 we need to invest.

00:33:03.980 We need to spend more money.

00:33:05.480 Chicago needs more tax money.

00:33:07.220 That's how you fix everything.

00:33:09.320 Just spend more money

00:33:10.360 on housing and education,

00:33:11.980 and that's the solution,

00:33:13.340 according to Brandon Johnson.

00:33:17.240 Okay, well,

00:33:17.800 let's take a look at that,

00:33:19.260 and I'll throw some numbers at you.

00:33:22.120 Do you know,

00:33:23.080 do you know the budget

00:33:24.780 of Chicago public schools?

00:33:27.080 You probably don't.

00:33:27.760 Probably don't have

00:33:28.320 that number handy.

00:33:29.320 Well, the budget is $10 billion.

00:33:31.280 $10 billion.

00:33:32.640 $1.5 billion of that

00:33:34.780 comes from the federal government.

00:33:37.560 Now, Mayor Johnson says

00:33:38.360 we need to invest more

00:33:39.580 in education in Chicago.

00:33:42.140 Well, $10 billion a year,

00:33:43.860 is that not an investment?

00:33:47.700 I'd say it is.

00:33:50.220 And what have we gotten out of it?

00:33:53.300 Right, that's the question.

00:33:54.180 What's the return

00:33:55.180 on this investment?

00:33:56.600 Well,

00:33:59.020 70% of students

00:34:01.420 in elementary and middle school

00:34:02.880 in Chicago

00:34:03.440 don't read at grade level.

00:34:07.180 70%.

00:34:07.700 80% are not proficient in math.

00:34:13.000 That's in elementary

00:34:14.480 and middle school.

00:34:15.220 By 11th grade,

00:34:16.300 it's even worse.

00:34:17.580 Almost 80%

00:34:18.620 at that grade level

00:34:20.020 are not proficient in reading.

00:34:21.740 A little over 80%

00:34:22.760 are not proficient in math.

00:34:24.460 40% of students

00:34:25.980 in these schools

00:34:26.580 are chronically absent,

00:34:27.880 meaning that they miss

00:34:28.700 more than 10%

00:34:30.300 of the school year.

00:34:32.020 So that's at least

00:34:33.040 like 18 or 20 days,

00:34:35.040 almost an entire month

00:34:36.100 of class

00:34:36.640 that they're not even there.

00:34:38.380 And yet,

00:34:39.360 imagine that

00:34:40.340 Chicago schools

00:34:42.740 still have

00:34:43.560 a high graduation rate

00:34:45.340 and they're very proud of it.

00:34:47.420 They'll go around

00:34:48.240 bragging about

00:34:48.840 their graduation rate.

00:34:50.040 85% of students

00:34:53.040 graduate on time.

00:34:56.840 So the vast majority

00:34:57.920 of students

00:34:58.360 are not proficient

00:34:59.320 in math or reading.

00:35:00.500 Almost half of them

00:35:01.280 are chronically absent.

00:35:02.780 So they can't read,

00:35:04.620 they can't do math,

00:35:05.280 they're not showing up

00:35:05.940 to class,

00:35:06.480 and yet almost all of them

00:35:07.740 still graduate.

00:35:10.520 So what does that mean?

00:35:11.460 It means, of course,

00:35:12.200 that literally

00:35:14.260 anybody will graduate.

00:35:15.500 It means that they are

00:35:16.580 just sort of

00:35:17.500 churning out

00:35:18.360 millions of kids

00:35:20.400 out into society

00:35:22.660 who are not

00:35:23.240 actually educated.

00:35:26.040 And that's happening

00:35:27.140 with $10 billion

00:35:28.240 in investment annually.

00:35:30.420 So how much money

00:35:31.140 will it cost

00:35:31.780 to get these numbers up,

00:35:33.920 Brandon?

00:35:35.420 Your schools are,

00:35:36.540 you know,

00:35:36.800 getting $10 billion a year

00:35:37.980 and it's still not enough

00:35:39.160 to even teach

00:35:40.820 half the kids

00:35:41.620 how to actually read.

00:35:44.420 So what do you need?

00:35:45.340 $10 billion,

00:35:47.780 there's not enough investment,

00:35:49.500 there's not enough money.

00:35:50.900 There's not enough money

00:35:51.840 to teach all these kids

00:35:52.680 how to read.

00:35:54.420 Okay, $10 billion

00:35:55.240 is not going to do it,

00:35:55.740 what do you need?

00:35:56.200 Another $10?

00:35:58.560 $20 billion,

00:35:59.260 would that have to,

00:35:59.540 $100 billion?

00:36:01.300 A trillion?

00:36:03.040 What if your budget

00:36:03.800 was a trillion dollars a year?

00:36:07.040 Do you think at that point

00:36:07.980 you could get maybe

00:36:08.700 50% of your students

00:36:10.140 to read, like,

00:36:11.040 a Dr. Seuss book

00:36:11.880 by the time they graduate?

00:36:13.600 Would that be enough?

00:36:15.540 Probably not.

00:36:17.200 And what about housing?

00:36:19.640 Do you need more investment

00:36:21.020 in housing?

00:36:21.560 Well, Chicago is spending

00:36:22.860 a record amount of money

00:36:23.920 on affordable housing,

00:36:25.320 quote-unquote,

00:36:26.040 and housing investments.

00:36:28.060 Lori Lightfoot,

00:36:28.960 before Brandon Johnson,

00:36:30.340 spent record amounts

00:36:31.980 on housing,

00:36:33.820 you know,

00:36:34.200 on housing,

00:36:35.360 billions of dollars.

00:36:37.460 Brandon Johnson

00:36:38.160 is also spending

00:36:39.080 record amounts.

00:36:40.180 and yet homelessness

00:36:41.960 has hit record highs

00:36:44.220 in the city

00:36:44.960 at the same time.

00:36:47.040 So you've got, like,

00:36:47.940 80,000 homeless people

00:36:49.300 in your city, Brandon,

00:36:51.000 not counting all the illegals,

00:36:52.260 so it's actually

00:36:52.620 a lot more than that.

00:36:54.440 The total number

00:36:55.360 of homeless in Chicago

00:36:56.220 is at the highest level

00:36:57.560 right now

00:36:58.280 since they started

00:36:59.100 keeping track

00:36:59.720 back in 2005.

00:37:01.280 So follow along with me,

00:37:02.840 Brandon.

00:37:03.060 I know this is hard.

00:37:04.420 I mean,

00:37:04.620 you went to school

00:37:05.100 in Chicago,

00:37:05.520 so I know following things

00:37:06.940 logically is not

00:37:07.720 the easiest thing for you.

00:37:09.820 So investment

00:37:11.320 in housing

00:37:12.180 is going like this.

00:37:13.480 It's going up, up, up, right?

00:37:15.280 More and more.

00:37:16.800 But then homelessness

00:37:17.960 is also going up.

00:37:20.620 So we've got

00:37:21.060 investment

00:37:21.860 in affordable housing

00:37:22.800 is going like this.

00:37:23.900 Homelessness is also 0.67

00:37:24.820 going like this.

00:37:26.420 And then over in the schools,

00:37:27.960 what's happening there?

00:37:29.000 Well, spending

00:37:29.700 is going up, up, up

00:37:30.880 like this.

00:37:31.720 But then reading

00:37:32.780 and math

00:37:33.640 is going down like this.

00:37:35.660 Okay, you see that?

00:37:36.420 That's not how

00:37:38.420 it's supposed to work.

00:37:41.020 So, Brandon,

00:37:42.260 does it seem like

00:37:43.080 dumping money

00:37:43.700 on the problem

00:37:44.320 is working?

00:37:45.680 Does it seem like

00:37:46.760 investment

00:37:47.320 is actually the solution?

00:37:49.800 The more you invest,

00:37:51.760 the worse

00:37:52.760 the problem gets.

00:37:54.540 Okay?

00:37:55.880 Have you noticed that yet?

00:37:58.780 If it was the solution

00:38:00.200 to the problem,

00:38:01.360 why is the problem

00:38:02.480 getting worse

00:38:03.340 in response

00:38:04.220 to the solution?

00:38:05.060 If you try to fix a problem,

00:38:06.200 but the fix

00:38:06.820 only makes everything worse,

00:38:08.160 that's a pretty good indication

00:38:09.140 that the fix

00:38:09.960 is not a fix.

00:38:12.060 If you bring your car

00:38:12.940 to the mechanic

00:38:13.480 because there's a problem

00:38:14.580 with the engine

00:38:15.140 and they give you back

00:38:16.020 the car and they say,

00:38:16.900 hey, we fixed the engine

00:38:17.920 and then you go drive

00:38:18.880 down the street

00:38:19.480 and a block down the street,

00:38:20.720 your engine explodes,

00:38:22.200 you're probably going

00:38:23.820 to conclude that,

00:38:24.660 well, you didn't really

00:38:25.300 fix the engine, did you?

00:38:26.420 In fact, you made it worse.

00:38:27.900 I don't know what you did,

00:38:28.760 but you made it worse.

00:38:32.240 And if you get your car

00:38:33.160 towed back to the mechanic

00:38:34.060 and you say,

00:38:34.800 hey, you didn't fix my engine,

00:38:35.860 and they go,

00:38:37.820 well, we did fix,

00:38:38.520 what do you mean?

00:38:40.400 Remember,

00:38:40.780 we charged you

00:38:41.360 a lot of money,

00:38:41.940 what do you mean

00:38:42.220 we didn't fix it?

00:38:44.360 How can you say

00:38:45.000 we didn't fix the engine?

00:38:45.880 We charged you $10,000.

00:38:49.360 Well, yeah,

00:38:49.880 I know you charged me

00:38:50.640 a lot of money.

00:38:51.780 I know I spent

00:38:53.180 a lot of money on it,

00:38:54.220 but my engine is

00:38:55.060 on fire right now.

00:38:56.700 So, you see,

00:38:57.140 so clearly,

00:38:58.300 like, yeah,

00:38:58.920 you charged me a lot,

00:38:59.820 that makes it worse.

00:39:01.940 There's a scam going on here,

00:39:03.360 you're scamming us.

00:39:06.260 No,

00:39:06.760 investment is not the solution.

00:39:08.900 It's not.

00:39:11.420 Just,

00:39:12.000 just,

00:39:12.520 you could,

00:39:13.420 it doesn't matter.

00:39:14.520 Endless budget,

00:39:16.460 $500 billion to education

00:39:18.160 in Chicago,

00:39:18.940 $500 billion a year

00:39:20.400 on affordable housing

00:39:21.540 would not make

00:39:22.980 a difference.

00:39:25.360 You could spend

00:39:26.120 $500 billion

00:39:26.680 and you,

00:39:27.400 it would not result

00:39:28.340 in like one additional

00:39:29.940 child learning how to read.

00:39:31.120 it wouldn't.

00:39:34.240 Um,

00:39:34.860 there is no one

00:39:37.540 single solution,

00:39:38.740 but, I mean,

00:39:40.140 80% of black kids

00:39:41.360 in Chicago

00:39:41.800 are born to single mothers,

00:39:43.260 which is a 200%

00:39:45.080 increase

00:39:45.620 since 1970.

00:39:47.740 Fatherless kids

00:39:48.460 are four times

00:39:49.400 more likely

00:39:49.820 to live in poverty.

00:39:50.960 70% of high school

00:39:51.760 dropouts

00:39:52.280 are fatherless.

00:39:53.020 85% of kids

00:39:53.900 who are in juvenile

00:39:54.380 detention right now

00:39:55.060 are fatherless.

00:39:55.920 So that's one solution.

00:39:58.780 Your women 0.89

00:39:59.600 in the city

00:40:00.200 need to stop

00:40:00.940 sleeping around

00:40:01.720 and having babies

00:40:02.920 before they get married.

00:40:05.640 Your men

00:40:06.420 need to stop

00:40:06.980 abandoning their families.

00:40:09.580 Just like the smallest

00:40:10.840 amount of self-control

00:40:11.920 would go a long way here.

00:40:14.780 That's a big one.

00:40:16.840 And as far as crime,

00:40:18.640 yes,

00:40:18.960 you can fix the problem

00:40:20.080 or at least go a long way

00:40:21.180 towards fixing it

00:40:21.940 by putting criminals

00:40:23.540 in prison.

00:40:26.320 The more criminals

00:40:27.360 you put in prison, 0.78

00:40:28.400 the fewer you will have

00:40:29.400 on the street.

00:40:32.760 Okay?

00:40:33.560 That's another,

00:40:34.720 again,

00:40:35.320 I know it's hard.

00:40:35.880 I know it's hard,

00:40:36.600 Brandon.

00:40:36.900 I know it's hard.

00:40:39.240 You're barely literate.

00:40:40.760 You went to Chicago schools.

00:40:41.900 I get all that.

00:40:42.600 It's really hard

00:40:43.120 to follow along.

00:40:45.320 But, you know,

00:40:46.280 I'll try my best

00:40:47.460 to explain it to you.

00:40:48.640 Prisons are a place

00:40:49.860 where you put

00:40:50.580 criminals, 0.62

00:40:51.800 bad people, 1.00

00:40:52.660 dangerous people.

00:40:53.920 That's why they exist.

00:40:54.940 And you put them

00:40:56.080 in cages

00:40:56.580 and you lock

00:40:57.420 them in there

00:40:58.020 so that they're

00:40:59.540 not on the street

00:41:00.140 anymore.

00:41:02.120 And so you see

00:41:03.400 how it works

00:41:03.840 is that if you have

00:41:05.220 a certain number

00:41:05.900 of criminals

00:41:06.640 who are running

00:41:07.120 around the street,

00:41:07.920 the more of them

00:41:09.600 that you put

00:41:10.300 in jail,

00:41:11.220 the fewer of them

00:41:12.400 you'll have

00:41:13.720 on the street.

00:41:16.180 That's,

00:41:16.980 because when you

00:41:18.160 put a criminal in jail,

00:41:19.140 they don't,

00:41:19.420 they don't,

00:41:19.720 like,

00:41:20.280 duplicate.

00:41:20.580 you're not

00:41:22.200 putting a clone

00:41:22.800 of them,

00:41:23.040 you're putting that,

00:41:23.580 so it's,

00:41:24.560 you're putting them

00:41:25.260 in jail.

00:41:25.640 So you end up

00:41:26.640 with,

00:41:27.520 so as you put

00:41:28.880 more of them

00:41:29.340 in jail,

00:41:29.960 so again,

00:41:30.420 follow along

00:41:30.900 with the,

00:41:31.620 as you put

00:41:32.140 more of them

00:41:32.640 in jail,

00:41:33.220 then the number

00:41:34.120 of them

00:41:34.340 on the street

00:41:34.820 goes like this

00:41:35.460 because they're

00:41:36.480 going to the jail.

00:41:37.280 You see how

00:41:37.560 that works?

00:41:37.940 You see how

00:41:38.240 it works?

00:41:39.820 I know you might

00:41:40.560 say,

00:41:40.840 well,

00:41:41.020 but then you'll

00:41:41.780 have,

00:41:42.220 what about

00:41:42.480 the next batch

00:41:43.720 of criminals

00:41:44.120 that comes along?

00:41:45.040 Well,

00:41:45.200 follow again

00:41:45.760 along with me.

00:41:46.540 You know what

00:41:46.820 you do with

00:41:47.120 the next batch?

00:41:47.680 You put them

00:41:48.180 in jail too.

00:41:50.260 Oh,

00:41:50.400 but we don't

00:41:50.680 have enough

00:41:51.000 jails for them.

00:41:51.700 Oh,

00:41:51.880 well,

00:41:52.100 you're all

00:41:52.420 about investment,

00:41:53.180 right?

00:41:53.660 Build some more.

00:41:57.160 We would need

00:41:57.760 10 more jails

00:41:58.460 to have,

00:41:58.740 okay,

00:41:59.060 build 10 jails

00:41:59.700 then.

00:42:00.400 Build as many

00:42:00.800 as you need.

00:42:03.640 How many jails

00:42:04.380 do we need?

00:42:04.840 Well,

00:42:04.980 I don't know,

00:42:05.340 however many

00:42:05.740 jails is necessary 0.99

00:42:06.620 to house

00:42:07.900 all the criminals 0.96

00:42:08.420 in your city.

00:42:12.200 So,

00:42:13.280 I don't know,

00:42:14.960 that's the best

00:42:15.540 I can do

00:42:15.840 to explain it.

00:42:16.760 I can't,

00:42:17.160 I can't,

00:42:17.620 I can't break it

00:42:18.280 down in any

00:42:18.640 simpler terms

00:42:19.200 than that.

00:42:20.180 All right,

00:42:20.560 the,

00:42:21.160 okay,

00:42:22.220 let's,

00:42:23.420 we'll lighten

00:42:23.860 the mood

00:42:24.040 a bit here.

00:42:25.540 The,

00:42:25.860 the ringer

00:42:26.480 has compiled

00:42:27.140 a list

00:42:27.560 of the 101

00:42:28.380 best movie

00:42:29.500 performances

00:42:30.020 of the 21st

00:42:30.820 century.

00:42:32.060 Not much

00:42:32.640 of a transition

00:42:33.120 here.

00:42:33.400 We're just

00:42:33.640 diving into a,

00:42:35.140 into movie

00:42:35.780 performances.

00:42:36.940 You know,

00:42:37.840 and,

00:42:38.080 and we all

00:42:38.440 know that

00:42:38.700 making lists

00:42:39.320 and ranking

00:42:39.780 stuff is one

00:42:40.680 of the great

00:42:41.060 American pastimes.

00:42:42.060 It's one of

00:42:42.360 our favorite

00:42:42.680 things to do.

00:42:43.140 It's,

00:42:43.280 it's hard

00:42:43.860 to,

00:42:44.200 to turn down

00:42:46.040 the allure

00:42:46.900 of an

00:42:47.560 arbitrary list

00:42:48.420 where we

00:42:48.800 argue about

00:42:49.380 whether,

00:42:50.220 whether one

00:42:50.740 thing is better

00:42:51.380 than another,

00:42:52.020 even though there's

00:42:52.480 no real objective

00:42:53.180 way to measure it.

00:42:54.520 So,

00:42:54.980 and I don't mean

00:42:55.480 that to be critical,

00:42:56.080 by the way,

00:42:56.380 I'm a big fan

00:42:56.900 of making lists.

00:42:57.680 I'm,

00:42:57.940 I'm all about it.

00:42:58.740 So,

00:42:59.120 we're not going

00:42:59.560 to go through

00:42:59.980 all 101,

00:43:00.920 but let's take a

00:43:01.400 look at the

00:43:01.800 ringer's top 10

00:43:03.040 performances

00:43:03.720 of the 21st

00:43:04.660 century.

00:43:05.000 Um,

00:43:06.500 and anytime

00:43:08.640 you see a list

00:43:09.100 like this,

00:43:09.420 you expect it

00:43:09.920 to be terrible,

00:43:10.520 but let's see

00:43:12.020 what they

00:43:12.240 come up

00:43:12.580 with.

00:43:13.540 Um,

00:43:14.100 going from

00:43:15.820 10 to 1,

00:43:16.640 uh,

00:43:17.080 10 is Kirsten

00:43:18.000 Dunst in

00:43:18.480 Melancholia,

00:43:19.260 9 is Joaquin

00:43:19.980 Phoenix in

00:43:20.420 The Master,

00:43:21.260 8 is Jesse

00:43:21.940 Eisenberg in

00:43:22.560 Social Network,

00:43:23.840 uh,

00:43:24.160 7,

00:43:24.520 Denzel Washington

00:43:25.160 Training Day,

00:43:26.260 6,

00:43:26.640 Heath Ledger in

00:43:27.200 Dark Knight,

00:43:27.800 5,

00:43:28.600 Javier Bardem in

00:43:29.780 No Country

00:43:30.160 for Old Men,

00:43:31.200 4,

00:43:31.640 Cate Blanchett in

00:43:32.440 Tar,

00:43:33.040 3,

00:43:33.540 Philip Schumer

00:43:33.900 Hoffman in

00:43:34.300 The Master,

00:43:35.000 2,

00:43:35.280 Daniel Day-Lewis,

00:43:36.640 There Will Be

00:43:36.960 Blood,

00:43:37.280 and then 1 is

00:43:39.000 Naomi Watts

00:43:40.080 in Mulholland

00:43:41.140 Drive.

00:43:42.720 But I have to

00:43:43.320 say,

00:43:43.520 it's not a

00:43:43.920 terrible list.

00:43:45.520 Not,

00:43:45.980 not great,

00:43:46.680 really,

00:43:47.000 but it's

00:43:47.340 certainly,

00:43:47.960 uh,

00:43:48.180 certainly not

00:43:48.580 exactly right,

00:43:49.280 but it's not

00:43:49.840 terrible.

00:43:51.060 And I can't

00:43:52.000 really say for

00:43:52.500 certain that

00:43:53.000 Naomi Watts

00:43:53.680 doesn't belong

00:43:54.320 in the top

00:43:54.660 spot,

00:43:54.920 because to be

00:43:55.420 honest,

00:43:55.800 admittedly,

00:43:56.280 that's the

00:43:56.760 one movie on

00:43:57.320 the list that

00:43:57.920 I haven't

00:43:58.600 seen.

00:43:59.940 Um,

00:44:01.020 but even so,

00:44:01.620 I feel very

00:44:02.060 confident when I

00:44:02.680 say that

00:44:02.960 Daniel Day-Lewis

00:44:03.640 should be

00:44:04.060 number one.

00:44:04.520 His performance

00:44:05.060 in There Will

00:44:05.940 Be Blood is

00:44:06.440 just a,

00:44:06.880 it's a towering

00:44:07.700 artistic achievement.

00:44:08.980 It's one of the

00:44:09.420 great film

00:44:09.820 performances of

00:44:10.500 all time.

00:44:11.480 I mean,

00:44:11.740 it's competing,

00:44:12.520 not just against

00:44:13.140 21st century

00:44:13.880 performances,

00:44:14.520 competing against,

00:44:15.360 you know,

00:44:15.980 De Niro and

00:44:16.560 Raging Bull and,

00:44:17.360 and, uh,

00:44:18.040 Marlon Brando on

00:44:19.580 the waterfront,

00:44:20.540 Al Pacino and

00:44:21.180 Godfather 2.

00:44:21.760 Like, it's,

00:44:22.060 it's in that

00:44:22.600 pantheon.

00:44:23.500 So that should

00:44:24.120 be number one.

00:44:25.460 I don't think

00:44:26.100 Denzel or

00:44:26.680 Jesse Eisenberg

00:44:27.320 belong in the

00:44:27.840 top ten.

00:44:28.340 Both are good

00:44:28.780 films, very good

00:44:29.760 performances, not

00:44:31.240 top ten.

00:44:32.900 Uh, I actually

00:44:33.480 like Tar a lot

00:44:34.340 more than I

00:44:34.740 thought I would.

00:44:35.220 I do think

00:44:35.540 Blanchett's

00:44:35.920 performance was

00:44:36.380 tremendous.

00:44:36.880 I wouldn't put

00:44:37.520 her in the

00:44:37.760 top ten.

00:44:38.440 And Philip

00:44:38.860 Seymour Hoffman

00:44:39.380 and Joaquin

00:44:39.740 Phoenix certainly

00:44:40.280 do belong in

00:44:40.820 the top ten,

00:44:41.300 but I think

00:44:41.660 The Ringer

00:44:42.000 picked the

00:44:43.180 wrong movies

00:44:43.980 for them.

00:44:46.620 So let me

00:44:47.200 just briefly

00:44:47.840 correct the

00:44:48.420 record by giving

00:44:49.020 the accurate

00:44:49.500 top ten list.

00:44:50.520 And I spent

00:44:50.840 about 45

00:44:52.400 seconds coming

00:44:53.000 up with this

00:44:53.320 list, so maybe

00:44:53.940 if I think more

00:44:54.420 about it, I'll

00:44:54.800 change my mind.

00:44:55.880 But so here,

00:44:56.340 here's, that's

00:44:56.960 their list.

00:44:57.760 My list would

00:44:58.560 be this.

00:45:00.380 Top ten

00:45:00.940 screen performances

00:45:01.780 of this century.

00:45:03.500 Number one, as

00:45:04.320 already established,

00:45:04.940 Daniel Day

00:45:05.320 Lewis, There

00:45:05.760 Will Be Blood.

00:45:06.880 Uh, as I

00:45:07.380 said, one of

00:45:07.740 the great, all

00:45:08.540 time great

00:45:09.000 performances, just

00:45:10.200 a work of

00:45:10.600 art.

00:45:10.780 Uh, two, I

00:45:12.580 put Philip Seymour

00:45:13.260 Hoffman, he was

00:45:14.920 brilliant in

00:45:15.600 The Master, but I

00:45:16.340 think his

00:45:16.620 performance in

00:45:17.160 Capote was on

00:45:18.000 a level even, even

00:45:18.820 above that one.

00:45:20.140 Uh, it's, it's

00:45:21.260 one of the, the

00:45:22.520 most nuanced and

00:45:23.480 layered performances

00:45:24.580 you'll ever see in

00:45:25.980 a movie.

00:45:26.280 And I know I

00:45:26.740 sound like a 0.98

00:45:27.140 pretentious douchebag 0.98

00:45:27.960 saying that it 0.99

00:45:29.100 was so new, it

00:45:29.820 was a nuanced and

00:45:30.720 layered performance,

00:45:31.600 but it was, it

00:45:32.460 was.

00:45:33.280 And, um, and,

00:45:34.760 and in this, and

00:45:35.440 this, I don't even

00:45:35.880 say this is a joke,

00:45:36.560 but he's, he's

00:45:37.300 able in that

00:45:37.940 movie, he puts

00:45:38.780 on, he's

00:45:39.740 playing, of course,

00:45:40.220 playing Truman

00:45:40.580 Capote.

00:45:41.080 He, he, he

00:45:42.300 puts on this

00:45:42.940 effeminate sort

00:45:44.380 of accent and

00:45:46.440 it's, it's a

00:45:47.020 little jarring

00:45:47.560 when you first

00:45:48.000 hear it, especially

00:45:49.900 given if you know

00:45:50.520 what the actor

00:45:50.900 really sounds

00:45:51.440 like, but then

00:45:53.440 you, you

00:45:54.240 believe it and

00:45:54.940 he's able to

00:45:55.780 put on this

00:45:56.200 performance in

00:45:56.960 that kind of 0.89

00:45:57.420 like silly 0.99

00:45:57.940 voice. 0.98

00:45:58.440 and, uh, and

00:46:00.060 that's, uh, that's

00:46:00.840 a real achievement.

00:46:02.460 Uh, number

00:46:03.340 three, I'd say

00:46:03.980 Javier Bardem

00:46:04.740 in No Country

00:46:05.240 for Old Men.

00:46:05.800 I think the

00:46:06.140 ringer was right

00:46:06.860 to rank, and

00:46:07.460 this was

00:46:07.700 controversial, but

00:46:08.300 they ranked

00:46:08.660 Javier Bardem

00:46:09.660 above Heath

00:46:10.520 Ledger in, uh,

00:46:12.540 in, in the

00:46:13.180 Dark Knight.

00:46:13.940 I do think

00:46:14.640 Heath Ledger's

00:46:15.040 performance was

00:46:15.540 great and

00:46:16.000 iconic, even

00:46:17.160 if the film

00:46:17.600 that he was

00:46:17.960 in is one of

00:46:18.580 the most

00:46:18.780 overrated

00:46:19.260 things ever

00:46:20.520 to exist on

00:46:21.120 the planet,

00:46:21.760 the Dark

00:46:22.380 Knight.

00:46:22.580 But Harvey

00:46:23.800 R. Bardem

00:46:24.180 in No Country

00:46:24.660 is, is

00:46:25.180 superior.

00:46:25.800 I mean, Anton

00:46:26.280 Chigurh, uh, 1.00

00:46:28.160 the character

00:46:28.520 he plays in

00:46:28.920 that film, is

00:46:29.660 the most

00:46:30.080 menacing, uh,

00:46:31.400 and interesting,

00:46:32.360 I think, movie

00:46:33.240 villain of

00:46:35.020 this century,

00:46:35.800 probably in the

00:46:36.600 history of cinema.

00:46:38.020 Uh, Heath

00:46:38.700 Ledger's Joker

00:46:39.320 is more animated,

00:46:40.600 more outlandish,

00:46:41.700 more attention

00:46:42.180 grabbing in

00:46:43.640 some ways, but

00:46:44.340 he never created

00:46:45.620 the tension that

00:46:46.860 Bardem creates

00:46:47.720 in that role.

00:46:48.940 I mean, just

00:46:49.420 the scene at the

00:46:49.980 gas station, uh,

00:46:52.580 and if you've

00:46:52.880 never seen No

00:46:53.320 Country for

00:46:53.640 Old Men, how 0.99

00:46:54.100 dare you?

00:46:54.640 If you've

00:46:54.840 never seen it,

00:46:55.380 just the scene

00:46:55.780 of the gas

00:46:56.100 station is, is

00:46:56.840 worth the price

00:46:57.380 of admission.

00:46:58.180 It's like a

00:46:58.760 three-minute

00:46:59.200 scene, and, um,

00:47:01.800 and it's a

00:47:03.420 master class in

00:47:04.500 building tension

00:47:05.320 and suspense, uh,

00:47:07.100 one of the best

00:47:07.580 movie scenes, I've,

00:47:09.300 of all time,

00:47:09.900 probably, and, um,

00:47:11.240 Heath Ledger

00:47:11.660 never quite touches

00:47:12.440 that performance.

00:47:13.220 Number four, I'd

00:47:13.780 probably say Ryan

00:47:15.160 Gosling should be

00:47:16.460 on the list by

00:47:17.980 all rights.

00:47:19.900 Um, probably

00:47:21.260 his, his,

00:47:22.320 his role in

00:47:23.180 Blue Valentine

00:47:23.800 should be, it

00:47:25.500 was an absolutely

00:47:27.360 fantastic performance.

00:47:28.620 I hated the movie

00:47:29.680 because it's just

00:47:30.420 too dark and

00:47:31.700 bleak and

00:47:33.200 depressing.

00:47:34.440 Like, it's one of

00:47:35.180 the movies you

00:47:35.540 walk away from

00:47:36.180 it, you'll be

00:47:36.600 depressed for the

00:47:37.280 next three and a

00:47:37.780 half weeks from

00:47:38.460 watching it.

00:47:39.540 And, um, so

00:47:40.500 it's, it's sort of

00:47:41.360 artistically impressive,

00:47:42.300 but I would never

00:47:43.380 watch it again, and I

00:47:44.780 kind of wish I'd

00:47:45.300 never saw it the

00:47:45.800 first time, but it's

00:47:46.840 a great performance.

00:47:48.120 Um, so maybe that

00:47:49.780 role, or, or

00:47:50.600 first man, you

00:47:51.480 know, I, I

00:47:52.080 think, uh, first

00:47:52.760 man is one of the

00:47:53.400 most underrated

00:47:54.080 films of the

00:47:55.940 century and that

00:47:56.880 performance as well.

00:47:57.860 So that'd be my

00:47:58.620 number four, number

00:47:59.000 five, I'd say

00:47:59.680 Joaquin Phoenix has

00:48:00.640 to be on the list.

00:48:01.340 Probably, um, he

00:48:02.560 was great in the

00:48:03.160 master, but I'd

00:48:03.780 probably put his

00:48:04.260 performance in the

00:48:05.040 movie her, which 0.94

00:48:06.900 if you've never seen

00:48:08.840 that one, especially

00:48:09.660 now with AI, um,

00:48:12.040 this movie came out,

00:48:12.940 I don't know, 10 or

00:48:13.580 12 years ago, but,

00:48:15.480 uh, it, it's, it's

00:48:17.920 a, quite a, um,

00:48:20.540 prescient movie now,

00:48:22.460 uh, because he plays

00:48:24.360 a, a guy who falls in

00:48:25.760 love with essentially

00:48:26.900 AI, he falls in love

00:48:27.940 with an operating

00:48:28.480 system, he falls in

00:48:29.540 love with, with

00:48:30.120 Siri, basically, and

00:48:32.240 so he's acting

00:48:33.220 against this

00:48:34.040 disembodied voice the

00:48:35.400 entire time, he's

00:48:36.020 walking around

00:48:36.820 throughout the movie

00:48:38.040 and he's got the

00:48:38.620 earpiece in and he's

00:48:39.340 talking basically to

00:48:40.220 himself, but talking

00:48:41.560 to the, um, the

00:48:42.440 operating system, and

00:48:44.460 you see him like

00:48:45.560 fall in love with

00:48:46.420 this, with this

00:48:47.140 computer, and it's,

00:48:48.900 he pulls it off, it's

00:48:49.620 very believable.

00:48:50.480 Number six, I'd say,

00:48:51.640 I think J.K.

00:48:52.440 Simmons and Whiplash 0.95

00:48:53.300 should have been on

00:48:53.740 the list, um, I

00:48:55.240 watched that movie

00:48:55.740 again recently, all I

00:48:56.780 can say is that if

00:48:58.300 you haven't seen

00:48:58.720 Whiplash, it's a movie

00:48:59.840 about a drummer in a

00:49:01.240 jazz band, and I

00:49:03.780 hate jazz, I can't

00:49:04.840 stand it, I, I think

00:49:05.820 it's, it's the second

00:49:07.500 worst genre of music,

00:49:08.820 second only to

00:49:09.440 mariachi music, and I

00:49:11.720 don't care about

00:49:12.200 drumming, really, and

00:49:13.860 yet the film is

00:49:14.720 mesmerizing, I mean

00:49:15.740 it's like an edge of

00:49:16.720 your seat, it's a

00:49:17.960 movie, it's a film

00:49:18.720 about a drummer in a

00:49:19.640 jazz band, and it's an

00:49:20.460 edge of your seat

00:49:21.180 thriller, really, and

00:49:22.820 that's in thanks in

00:49:23.460 large part to Simmons's

00:49:24.280 performance.

00:49:24.800 Number seven, I'd say

00:49:25.400 Heath Ledger in Dark

00:49:26.220 Knight, uh, I'd put

00:49:27.780 him there.

00:49:29.000 Uh, number eight,

00:49:29.880 Russell Crowe, probably

00:49:30.780 Russell Crowe in

00:49:31.360 Gladiator, it's, you

00:49:32.700 know, it's 2000, I

00:49:33.600 think, so I guess that

00:49:34.380 counts as this century.

00:49:36.320 Um, and then nine and

00:49:37.520 ten, nine, I'd probably

00:49:38.360 say Jim Carrey in

00:49:39.100 Eternal Sunshine of the

00:49:39.940 Spotless Mind.

00:49:41.420 I think it was a

00:49:42.060 great film of this, of

00:49:43.000 this, uh, of this

00:49:43.740 century.

00:49:44.060 Jim Carrey is a, you

00:49:45.520 know, an annoying 0.50

00:49:46.120 leftist who only does

00:49:47.100 Sonic movies now, but

00:49:48.300 what, what makes that

00:49:50.040 so, especially, and I

00:49:51.240 got a lot of trouble

00:49:51.800 for, for making fun of

00:49:53.060 the Sonic movie, which

00:49:54.140 is just god-awful, but

00:49:56.340 one of the things that

00:49:57.100 annoyed me watching that

00:49:57.860 movie is, like, this is

00:49:58.640 what Jim Carrey has

00:49:59.380 become.

00:49:59.800 He's, like, actually a

00:50:00.900 great actor.

00:50:02.480 Uh, he's a great artist,

00:50:03.540 but he's, he's, this is

00:50:04.760 what he does now.

00:50:05.320 You see it in that movie.

00:50:06.340 And then finally, number

00:50:07.120 ten, I'd say, yeah, Hugh

00:50:08.120 Jackman in Prisoners, um,

00:50:11.480 was, uh, you know,

00:50:12.920 he plays a desperate

00:50:13.660 father trying to find

00:50:14.700 his daughter who's, uh,

00:50:15.840 been kidnapped.

00:50:17.000 Fully embodies the

00:50:17.960 role, you absolutely

00:50:18.900 believe it, um, the

00:50:20.020 whole way through, and

00:50:20.680 it's a, it's a great

00:50:21.260 performance.

00:50:21.620 So, that's my list.

00:50:22.900 That's the real top ten.

00:50:23.780 That's the correct,

00:50:24.600 that's the correct

00:50:26.380 arbitrary list, and, um,

00:50:28.300 and that's, that's all

00:50:29.200 there is to it.

00:50:30.380 Let's be honest, I have a

00:50:31.180 long list of things I'd

00:50:32.100 rather do than maintain

00:50:33.100 my gutters this summer as

00:50:34.420 they quietly fill with

00:50:36.200 debris.

00:50:36.760 For me, cleaning gutters

00:50:37.980 ranks somewhere between

00:50:38.980 sitting through a DMV line

00:50:40.380 and filing taxes, but

00:50:41.520 luckily, there's an

00:50:42.560 easier way.

00:50:43.340 Leaf Filter, that's

00:50:44.560 America's number one

00:50:45.560 gutter protection company,

00:50:57.240 Look, gutters are boring

00:50:58.320 until your basement

00:50:59.080 becomes an indoor pool

00:51:00.140 because that Home Depot

00:51:01.500 mesh just didn't do the

00:51:02.820 trick.

00:51:10.080 Sure, DIY is cheaper

00:51:11.400 up front, but when

00:51:12.240 you're dealing with

00:51:12.780 flooding or your house

00:51:14.020 becomes kindling from

00:51:15.200 dry leaves collecting

00:51:16.160 the clogged gutters,

00:51:17.340 those savings don't look

00:51:18.680 so smart.

00:51:19.300 Over a million homeowners

00:51:20.080 have figured this out.

00:51:20.880 They'll clean, align, and

00:51:23.560 you can ignore your

00:52:22.320 unfiltered.

00:52:26.620 before the deal's gone.

00:52:28.000 Now let's get to our

00:52:28.600 daily cancellation.

00:52:29.160 Well, normally, as the

00:52:36.820 name of this segment

00:52:37.380 implies, this is the

00:52:38.380 part of the show where

00:52:39.100 I cancel someone.

00:52:40.360 We've done this for

00:52:41.500 more than a thousand

00:52:42.460 episodes.

00:52:43.120 Is it predictable?

00:52:44.080 Yes.

00:52:44.500 Is it a bit, is the bit

00:52:46.260 kind of overplayed and

00:52:47.380 overdone at this point?

00:52:48.220 Probably.

00:52:48.680 But either way, the

00:52:50.120 routine is very well

00:52:50.960 established at this

00:52:52.380 point.

00:52:52.860 And yet today, I have to

00:52:54.040 admit that I'm simply not

00:52:55.100 in the mood.

00:52:55.680 There's just no way I can

00:52:56.840 cancel anyone right now.

00:52:58.120 And that's because for

00:52:59.180 the first time in a

00:52:59.840 thousand episodes, I'm

00:53:00.800 truly ecstatic.

00:53:01.960 You know, I'm not

00:53:02.340 talking just about being

00:53:03.100 happy or content, anything

00:53:04.380 like that.

00:53:04.780 I truly cannot contain the

00:53:06.060 emotions that are coursing

00:53:07.480 through my veins at this

00:53:08.920 very moment.

00:53:09.880 As you can probably tell,

00:53:11.160 I'm very close to jumping

00:53:12.380 up and down and screaming

00:53:13.780 uncontrollably like Tom

00:53:14.800 Cruise on Oprah's couch.

00:53:16.340 It's taking every ounce of

00:53:17.320 my self-restraint to keep

00:53:18.560 something like that from

00:53:19.460 happening on camera.

00:53:21.360 I don't think I can log

00:53:22.420 back into Instagram for at

00:53:24.380 least another 24 hours just

00:53:25.520 to keep myself from

00:53:26.500 overdosing on pure euphoria

00:53:27.840 I mean, I've never

00:53:28.820 actually logged on to

00:53:29.760 Instagram in my entire

00:53:30.760 life, but if I ever did, I

00:53:32.600 wouldn't be able to do it

00:53:33.220 now because I'm just too

00:53:34.660 overcome with excitement

00:53:35.700 and joy.

00:53:36.540 But I do have contractual

00:53:37.780 obligations, so I'm going

00:53:38.740 to do my best to steal

00:53:40.340 myself and get through

00:53:41.360 this segment to the

00:53:42.140 extent that any man can

00:53:43.280 possibly do so under these

00:53:44.560 extraordinary

00:53:44.940 circumstances.

00:53:46.360 And you all know what I'm

00:53:47.300 talking about, I assume.

00:53:48.580 But just in case you're

00:53:49.420 tuning in from a Siberian

00:53:50.440 prison camp, I suppose I

00:53:51.620 should fill you in that

00:53:52.520 Taylor Swift, Travis Kelsey,

00:53:54.660 see, it's all happening

00:53:56.420 and engagement is

00:53:57.120 happening.

00:53:57.600 They are engaged.

00:53:58.480 The two most important

00:53:59.300 figures who have ever

00:54:00.040 lived in this country after

00:54:00.940 maybe George Washington or

00:54:02.800 maybe before him are

00:54:04.640 officially engaged.

00:54:05.560 This is one of the great

00:54:06.580 moments in American

00:54:07.280 history.

00:54:07.720 It's like the moon

00:54:09.240 landing, except the

00:54:11.020 engagement happened in the

00:54:12.200 garden at Travis's home

00:54:13.420 rather than on the moon or

00:54:14.680 on a Hollywood sound

00:54:15.940 stage, depending on who

00:54:16.920 you believe.

00:54:18.020 Everyone will remember

00:54:18.980 where they were when they

00:54:20.080 heard the news.

00:54:20.920 You know, it's like the

00:54:21.440 9-11 of celebrity

00:54:22.420 engagements, but in a

00:54:23.920 good way.

00:54:25.060 I'm obviously struggling

00:54:25.840 at this point to come up

00:54:26.640 with appropriate historical

00:54:27.480 analogies, so now things

00:54:29.020 are starting to get a

00:54:29.660 little weird.

00:54:30.560 Maybe we just move on.

00:54:31.460 Anyway, you may not know

00:54:32.940 this about me, but I've

00:54:33.560 actually been a massive fan

00:54:34.480 of Travis Kelsey for a

00:54:35.320 very long time.

00:54:37.720 In fact, not even his

00:54:39.700 football stuff.

00:54:40.500 I mean, I hate the

00:54:41.700 Chiefs, but more of it

00:54:43.720 intellectually.

00:54:44.700 I'm a fan of his work.

00:54:48.120 And I first began following

00:54:49.000 Travis when I saw some of

00:54:50.260 the insights he posted on

00:54:51.260 social media when he was in

00:54:52.320 his 20s.

00:54:52.860 It's a real treasure trove

00:54:54.640 of insights that changed

00:54:55.820 my life.

00:54:56.520 If you missed out on some

00:54:57.600 of those posts, then I'm

00:54:58.700 truly sorry for you.

00:55:00.380 Some people regret the fact

00:55:01.760 that they didn't buy

00:55:02.340 Bitcoin back in 2011, but

00:55:03.820 really, they should regret

00:55:05.180 not reading Travis Kelsey's

00:55:06.360 Twitter feed from that

00:55:07.160 period, because that would

00:55:08.660 have transformed their

00:55:09.320 lives in so many

00:55:10.040 important ways.

00:55:11.060 So here's just one of

00:55:11.780 Travis Kelsey's many

00:55:12.620 inspirational posts to

00:55:13.560 give you a taste of what

00:55:14.260 you probably missed out on.

00:55:15.620 Quote,

00:55:15.820 I just gave a squirrel a

00:55:17.540 piece of bread and it

00:55:18.360 straight smashed all of

00:55:19.440 it.

00:55:19.840 I had no idea they ate

00:55:20.840 bread like that.

00:55:21.740 Ha ha.

00:55:22.660 Hashtag crazy.

00:55:24.900 Now, haters will say, 1.00

00:55:26.200 well, it's pretty dumb. 0.99

00:55:27.540 He can't even spell the 0.99

00:55:28.580 word squirrel.

00:55:30.820 These are the same people

00:55:32.220 who mock Taylor Swift.

00:55:33.220 These are the same people

00:55:34.020 who will laugh when she 0.99

00:55:35.040 sings the lyrics like

00:55:36.420 a lyrics like I'm like a

00:55:37.820 rainbow with all the

00:55:38.700 colors as if that's not a

00:55:40.720 groundbreaking and deeply

00:55:41.740 meaningful metaphor, but it

00:55:42.980 is a groundbreaking and

00:55:43.900 deeply meaningful metaphor.

00:55:44.480 Now, if I'm being honest,

00:55:46.300 every time I listen to

00:55:47.220 that song, which I have

00:55:48.340 hundreds of times, it has

00:55:50.280 me feeling like a

00:55:51.480 rollercoaster with all the

00:55:52.500 ups and downs that

00:55:53.460 rollercoasters entail.

00:55:55.160 I just, you know, just

00:55:55.640 can't get enough of it.

00:55:56.340 Taylor's lyrics and

00:55:57.120 Travis's observations about

00:55:58.240 squirrels, they just

00:55:59.900 inspire me.

00:56:01.320 It's as simple as that.

00:56:02.580 At this point, if you want

00:56:03.880 to call me unprofessional

00:56:04.760 for derailing a segment of

00:56:06.040 my own show in order to

00:56:07.020 profess my excitement over

00:56:08.120 the engagement of Taylor

00:56:08.880 Swift and Travis Kelsey,

00:56:09.920 then so be it.

00:56:11.200 I'm safe and secure in the

00:56:12.300 knowledge that I'm not

00:56:13.380 alone.

00:56:13.620 I'm definitely not the

00:56:14.820 only professional in the

00:56:15.620 media who, in the wake of

00:56:16.940 this historic engagement,

00:56:18.300 has felt compelled against

00:56:19.460 my better judgment to act 0.89

00:56:21.020 like a deranged fangirl while 0.90

00:56:22.460 on the air.

00:56:23.480 Olivia Rinaldi, the White

00:56:25.260 House correspondent at CBS

00:56:26.160 News, did precisely the same

00:56:28.160 thing.

00:56:28.440 While she was off air at the

00:56:31.740 White House, she was 0.97

00:56:32.280 scrolling her Instagram, as I

00:56:34.740 do all the time, and then

00:56:35.960 when she discovered the big

00:56:37.040 news, she told her producers

00:56:38.100 to put her on the air

00:56:38.940 immediately to break into

00:56:40.560 the coverage, and they did,

00:56:42.760 and here's what that looked

00:56:44.080 like.

00:56:44.560 Watch.

00:56:48.360 Taylor Swift is engaged.

00:56:52.720 Taylor Swift is engaged.

00:56:54.560 Taylor Swift is engaged.

00:56:56.560 This, come back to me.

00:56:58.400 She just posted it.

00:56:59.740 Oh, my God.

00:57:00.700 Oh, my God.

00:57:01.420 Oh, it's huge.

00:57:04.420 The ring is ginormous.

00:57:05.860 This is so exciting.

00:57:07.980 Oh, my God.

00:57:10.060 Oh, my God.

00:57:11.440 Oh, my God.

00:57:11.980 It's on her Instagram.

00:57:12.740 It's on her Instagram.

00:57:13.560 It's on her Instagram.

00:57:14.620 Oh, my God.

00:57:15.060 Oh, my God.

00:57:15.360 Oh, my God.

00:57:15.660 Oh, my God.

00:57:15.940 Oh, my God.

00:57:16.240 I feel like Paul Revere right

00:57:17.940 now.

00:57:18.960 This is a very exciting moment

00:57:21.720 for me in my professional

00:57:22.820 career because I get to

00:57:24.140 announce that Taylor Swift and

00:57:25.780 Travis Kelsey are engaged as

00:57:28.220 you're talking to Joe Lang, our

00:57:29.580 lovely producer, Gabby

00:57:30.780 Ake texted me and said, Taylor

00:57:32.740 Swift's engaged, and you can

00:57:34.100 see it right there on her

00:57:35.540 social media.

00:57:36.440 She put it up in that post

00:57:37.980 that they got engaged with

00:57:39.460 the caption, your English

00:57:40.940 teacher and your gym teacher

00:57:42.540 are getting married with a

00:57:44.360 little dynamite sign there.

00:57:46.400 So very exciting here that

00:57:49.100 we get to break that and

00:57:50.260 tell you about that.

00:57:51.320 All right, Swifties for life. 0.93

00:57:53.980 I have a feeling, though,

00:57:55.340 based on his prior

00:57:56.280 statements, the president will

00:57:57.560 not be having a Taylor Swift

00:57:59.120 wedding in the ballroom.

00:58:00.260 Hopefully that can shift and

00:58:01.840 change.

00:58:02.100 We can have some world peace.

00:58:03.600 Right.

00:58:04.260 Olivia Rinaldi, thank you so

00:58:05.740 much.

00:58:05.760 You know, Reid, I volunteer to

00:58:06.860 cover it in case you need.

00:58:08.680 I'll be there to cover it.

00:58:10.640 Thank you for the sacrifice,

00:58:12.120 Olivia.

00:58:12.460 We appreciate you, my friend.

00:58:14.820 Now, to be clear, because you

00:58:16.760 might be a little confused, this

00:58:17.600 is footage that CBS News

00:58:18.800 voluntarily uploaded to social

00:58:20.460 media.

00:58:20.760 This wasn't like somebody leaked

00:58:21.800 it.

00:58:22.860 This was they put this there on

00:58:24.260 purpose.

00:58:25.000 They're under the impression that

00:58:26.140 this footage is compatible with

00:58:27.460 the idea that their employees are

00:58:29.360 serious people who we can trust

00:58:30.860 to report the news and get to

00:58:32.520 the bottom of very important

00:58:33.580 stories.

00:58:34.480 They're under the impression that

00:58:35.600 this footage doesn't live up to

00:58:37.300 the to every imaginable stereotype

00:58:39.260 of female reporters in this 0.97

00:58:40.860 industry.

00:58:41.840 Again, this is their White House

00:58:43.160 correspondent, not an intern in

00:58:44.680 her freshman year of high

00:58:45.620 school.

00:58:46.520 This is a woman who studied at the

00:58:47.680 University of Virginia in Oxford,

00:58:48.840 and they're promoting this as if

00:58:50.700 it's something to be proud of.

00:58:52.180 And to that, I say, good for CBS

00:58:53.760 News.

00:58:54.240 You know, haters gonna hate, as

00:58:55.680 the great poet once said.

00:58:57.660 This reporter is indeed, as she

00:58:59.140 said in that footage, the modern

00:59:01.280 day Paul Revere.

00:59:02.400 Granted, Paul Revere warned

00:59:03.740 colonists at midnight about the

00:59:06.040 impending British march on

00:59:08.760 Lexington and Concord at a time

00:59:10.120 when those colonists were asleep and

00:59:12.040 had no idea the British were 0.90

00:59:13.080 coming.

00:59:13.540 And by contrast, Olivia

00:59:14.540 Rinaldi was repeating something

00:59:16.140 that Taylor Swift had already

00:59:17.080 announced to her 280 million

00:59:19.300 followers on Instagram.

00:59:20.640 But other than that, she basically

00:59:21.880 accomplished the same thing as

00:59:23.000 Paul Revere.

00:59:23.340 She alerted the world to a very

00:59:25.300 urgent piece of breaking news, one

00:59:26.760 that would have major

00:59:27.800 ramifications on this country for

00:59:29.480 generations to come.

00:59:31.220 Come to think of it, there's

00:59:32.480 actually a Paul Revere statue

00:59:33.980 somewhere in Massachusetts, and

00:59:36.020 you can see it there.

00:59:37.560 It's an equestrian statue because

00:59:39.640 he's on his horse.

00:59:40.840 It was modeled, and that's what

00:59:42.800 equestrian means, if you didn't

00:59:43.580 know that.

00:59:44.220 It was modeled in 1885 and cast in

00:59:46.340 bronze in 1940.

00:59:48.000 Won a bunch of awards.

00:59:49.040 Tourists love it.

00:59:50.420 And frankly, there's no reason for

00:59:51.780 it to exist anymore.

00:59:52.460 We should immediately tear it down

00:59:53.940 and replace it with a statue of

00:59:55.800 Olivia Rinaldi.

00:59:57.420 This is one statue removal that I

00:59:59.440 can get behind.

00:59:59.920 After all, if it weren't for

01:00:01.100 Olivia Rinaldi, all five people

01:00:03.300 who watch CBS News simply would

01:00:05.080 not have discovered that Taylor

01:00:06.140 Swift was engaged, at least not

01:00:08.080 until they logged on to the

01:00:09.040 internet.

01:00:10.040 On the other hand, what exactly

01:00:11.380 has Paul Revere done for us

01:00:12.400 lately?

01:00:13.220 I mean, we haven't even heard from

01:00:14.260 the guy in like 250 years.

01:00:15.560 The dude was a one-hit wonder.

01:00:17.520 Erecting a very large statue of

01:00:18.840 Olivia Rinaldi would send a very

01:00:20.240 important signal, which is that

01:00:22.220 cynicism and nihilism have no

01:00:23.600 place in America, post-Taylor

01:00:24.960 Swift engagement.

01:00:25.860 And we need that signal now more

01:00:27.220 than ever, because a lot of

01:00:28.080 people are losing their minds

01:00:29.900 out there right now.

01:00:30.760 For example, here's one post on

01:00:32.180 the social media platform known

01:00:33.260 as Blue Sky, which serves as the

01:00:34.940 padded room of the internet for

01:00:36.860 liberals who desperately need an

01:00:38.580 echo chamber.

01:00:39.780 The original post shows some of the

01:00:42.200 Taylor Swift engagement photos, and

01:00:43.800 in response, the Blue Sky user

01:00:45.320 responds, quote,

01:00:45.940 Now, you might be wondering, who

01:00:54.340 exactly is waiting in line to go to

01:00:56.080 the concentration camps at the

01:00:57.300 moment?

01:00:58.240 That's totally insane. 0.98

01:00:59.380 I mean, only a complete nutjob would 0.99

01:01:00.620 write something like that. 0.96

01:01:02.240 And it makes no sense.

01:01:03.900 But we all know the concentration

01:01:04.800 camps for liberals aren't supposed to

01:01:06.440 be up and running until November at

01:01:07.880 the earliest.

01:01:09.160 At least those of us in the know

01:01:10.840 were aware of that.

01:01:11.700 That was the plan straight from the

01:01:13.000 White House and Project 2025.

01:01:14.480 So what happened?

01:01:16.620 Did someone in the far right jump

01:01:17.880 the gun and set up their liberal

01:01:19.180 concentration camps a little early?

01:01:21.280 If so, it's a little pretty big

01:01:22.400 oversight, one that should be

01:01:23.880 corrected and quickly.

01:01:25.540 Also, just so you know, when we do

01:01:27.300 send you to the camps, you're not

01:01:29.000 going to have to wait in line.

01:01:30.080 I mean, we'll come grab you at your

01:01:31.560 house in the middle of the night.

01:01:34.240 You're welcome.

01:01:35.980 Anyway, it's more likely that this

01:01:37.360 person is suffering from delusional

01:01:39.020 disorder, which is a serious

01:01:40.160 psychiatric condition that afflicts

01:01:41.840 precisely, I think scientists say,

01:01:43.880 100% of Blue Sky's user base.

01:01:46.860 Continuing along here, some of the

01:01:48.200 reactions were even more unhinged,

01:01:49.760 even though that doesn't seem

01:01:51.140 possible.

01:01:51.560 Here's one recent post from Reddit,

01:01:53.560 the official website for the

01:01:54.680 unhinged.

01:01:55.380 The post reads, quote,

01:01:56.060 I'm genuinely scared watching how

01:01:58.880 serious Taylor and Travis are

01:02:00.800 becoming.

01:02:01.220 Sometimes I wonder, what if they

01:02:02.680 actually get married?

01:02:03.700 What if she's really not queer at 1.00

01:02:05.360 all?

01:02:05.840 It feels like everything I believed

01:02:07.120 about her could collapse overnight.

01:02:09.020 If this is real and not some PR game,

01:02:10.600 I honestly think I could end up in

01:02:11.760 the hospital or worse.

01:02:13.440 I don't know if I'd ever be able to

01:02:14.560 listen to her songs the same way

01:02:15.840 again.

01:02:16.620 Her happiness looks so different from

01:02:17.960 what I imagined.

01:02:18.920 Like she's truly content going to his

01:02:20.380 family's events.

01:02:21.600 I don't know how to cope with the

01:02:22.740 idea that maybe I never knew her at

01:02:24.880 all.

01:02:26.460 Well, it's obviously a very relatable

01:02:27.700 perspective for my part.

01:02:28.880 I've also spent many sleepless nights

01:02:30.640 wondering whether Taylor Swift's

01:02:31.900 queerness was, in fact, merely a

01:02:33.460 ruse.

01:02:34.460 I was watching a YouTube video of

01:02:35.860 Taylor Swift's concerts the other

01:02:37.300 day where she was dancing like a 1.00

01:02:39.060 malfunctioning robot, and the thought

01:02:41.000 definitely occurred to me.

01:02:42.260 I mean, is this woman even really 1.00

01:02:43.880 gay? 0.86

01:02:44.880 Have I been deceived this whole time? 0.99

01:02:47.400 How could any queer singer dance 1.00

01:02:49.080 like that?

01:02:49.500 I asked myself.

01:02:50.780 But despite all this negativity, if

01:02:53.320 there's one message I would convey to

01:02:54.560 the person on Reddit, it's this.

01:02:55.820 Be happy for Taylor and Travis.

01:02:57.980 Think of it this way.

01:02:59.260 Taylor Swift finally realized after

01:03:00.540 years of dating, you know, virtually

01:03:01.940 everyone on the planet that the

01:03:03.660 football star who can amuse himself by

01:03:05.520 feeding bread to squirrels is, in

01:03:07.800 fact, her soulmate.

01:03:08.500 And there's a lesson there, a lesson

01:03:10.300 that all of us can learn from for many,

01:03:12.700 many years to come.

01:03:14.480 I have no idea what that lesson is, but

01:03:16.080 there is one.

01:03:17.080 I'm sure of that.

01:03:18.540 And that is why, because I'm

01:03:19.400 contractually obligated to cancel someone

01:03:20.880 on this joyous day, all the people

01:03:22.860 hating on Taylor Swift and Travis

01:03:24.300 Kelsey's beautiful engagement are

01:03:26.320 today canceled.

01:03:28.680 That'll do it for the show today.

01:03:29.520 Thanks for watching.

01:03:30.020 Thanks for listening.

01:03:30.560 Talk to you tomorrow.

01:03:31.860 Have a great day.

01:03:32.860 Godspeed.

01:03:33.160 Today on the Ben Shapiro show, Tay-Tay

01:03:41.320 and Travis, they're getting engaged.

01:03:43.360 Woo.

01:03:44.200 Plus, President Trump signs in to chat

01:03:45.960 over the Cracker Barrel rebrand.

01:03:47.540 And the war is won. 0.83

01:03:48.980 And the DNC meetings completely melt

01:03:51.100 down.

01:03:51.420 All of that on today's Ben Shapiro show.

01:03:52.580 Give it a listen.

01:03:52.940 We'll be right back.
