00:01:33.680 Whenever clear battle lines are drawn on some major national issue,

00:02:02.860 and the left is busy canonizing martyrs and blowing their little whistles every day,

00:02:07.560 one of the hardest things to do is step back and reassess all of your available options at a strategic level.

00:02:13.500 At the moment, for example, it's very easy to conclude that the main dispute in this country concerns ICE raids.

00:02:20.620 You might think that the left opposes ICE raids and the right supports them.

00:02:24.140 You might conclude that at the highest levels of government,

00:02:26.680 the debate is between bleeding-heart leftists who don't want young Juan to be separated from his parents on the one side

00:02:32.820 and hard-nosed right-wingers who simply want the law to be enforced on the other.

00:02:37.400 But there's very good reason to believe that this divide doesn't actually exist,

00:02:41.560 at least not to the extent that we're led to believe.

00:02:44.800 And here's why.

00:02:45.360 Neither major political party has even suggested taking a very simple and straightforward step

00:02:52.280 that would instantly result in the departure of millions of illegal aliens from this country

00:02:59.000 without the need for a single ICE raid.

00:03:02.260 There wouldn't need to be any, quote-unquote, family separations

00:03:05.780 or federal agents with their scary masks that everybody's upset about or anything like that.

00:03:10.560 All you have to do is take this one step and you will solve a significant part of the problem

00:03:18.580 that both parties claim to be concerned about.

00:03:21.900 I'm talking about getting rid of the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, or ITIN.

00:03:28.900 In case you're not familiar with the concept, an ITIN takes the place of a social security number

00:03:33.300 if you're an illegal alien or anyone else without a valid social security number.

00:03:37.100 With an ITIN, an illegal alien can obtain credit.

00:03:42.820 They can open savings accounts and checking accounts at a bank.

00:03:46.400 They can start a business with an employer identification number.

00:03:49.760 They can work as independent contractors.

00:03:51.920 They can obtain driver's licenses in many states.

00:03:54.880 And they can apply for mortgages.

00:03:57.300 The ITIN has been around for a long time now, since the 1990s,

00:04:01.360 but there was never any vote in Congress to establish it.

00:04:05.160 Instead, the IRS unilaterally created the idea of ITIN in order to make it easier for illegal aliens to pay taxes

00:04:13.060 and to pay into the social security system.

00:04:15.780 The idea was that since the IRS was required by law to tax everybody's income,

00:04:19.600 the agency had the authority to create the ITIN system and allow illegal aliens to use it.

00:04:24.320 And on top of that, the IRS wouldn't alert immigration officials about anyone using an ITIN

00:04:29.500 in order to encourage illegal aliens to register.

00:04:32.000 So the IRS pitched the idea as a win-win.

00:04:35.480 The U.S. would collect more tax revenue and more funding for social security,

00:04:39.700 which the illegal aliens wouldn't be able to tap into.

00:04:41.960 And in turn, illegal aliens could get tax refunds as well as child tax credits.

00:04:47.580 What's happened since the 1990s, of course, is that this rationale,

00:04:50.920 as flimsy as it was to begin with, completely collapsed.

00:04:54.180 First, the ITIN system was premised on the idea that we'd have a secure border.

00:04:58.420 But if the federal government allows foreigners to enter the country at will,

00:05:01.660 as the Biden administration did, then ITIN allows for massive distortions in the market.

00:05:08.460 There are dozens of lenders that allow foreigners with ITINs to get home loans,

00:05:12.680 from PNC Bank to Wells Fargo to First National Bank.

00:05:15.860 If you're on the market for any kind of home, including a mobile home,

00:05:20.040 then you're competing with every foreigner with an ITIN.

00:05:24.900 Here's just one example that I pulled from X.

00:05:28.800 It's from Triad Financial Services, which is based in Florida,

00:05:32.680 and it states, quote,

00:05:33.900 Smarter financing for manufactured homebuyers.

00:05:36.340 Individual taxpayer identification numbers are now accepted for all chattel programs,

00:05:40.920 gold, silver, and bronze.

00:05:42.200 The advertisement also promises that low down payments are available

00:05:47.820 and that a 550 credit score is more than acceptable.

00:05:52.600 And although it's not supposed to work like this,

00:05:54.500 an ITIN can function like a work authorization, too.

00:05:58.640 Until recently, according to various social media posts and videos,

00:06:01.600 you could use an ITIN to sign up for many major food delivery services, for example.

00:06:06.820 For their part, DoorDash has denied this.

00:06:09.000 They say that they require a social security number,

00:06:10.600 but there are plenty of screenshots where their representatives have told people in the past

00:06:14.660 that they only need an ITIN to create an account.

00:06:18.820 So if you take away this system, which the IRS can do instantly,

00:06:23.020 then you achieve two immediate benefits.

00:06:25.640 First, you lower the price of housing, particularly starter homes for American citizens,

00:06:29.920 simple economics.

00:06:30.760 If fewer people are trying to buy homes, the price will go down.

00:06:33.300 You also lower competition for a lot of jobs.

00:06:35.400 Second, you give illegal aliens a very good reason to leave since they won't have anywhere to live

00:06:42.140 and they won't have any bank that will accept their money.

00:06:45.660 Now, it's true that there's a very small number of people living in this country

00:06:48.420 who might want to use an ITIN for tax purposes, even though they aren't illegal aliens.

00:06:52.180 If a U.S. citizen marries a foreigner who doesn't have a work authorization for some reason,

00:06:56.240 they might need one of these to file a joint tax return.

00:06:59.640 Or a wealthy foreign investor might make money in the U.S.

00:07:02.880 and he needs an ITIN to pay taxes on investments.

00:07:06.340 These are rare scenarios.

00:07:07.380 And the IRS can easily distinguish these scenarios from an illegal alien who resides in the U.S.

00:07:11.420 and wants an ITIN to purchase a home.

00:07:14.200 So, why is no one in Congress in either party suggesting a change like this?

00:07:20.160 It might not solve every problem, but it would certainly be a big help.

00:07:24.280 Why is everyone fine with an arbitrary system that was invented by the IRS in the 1990s,

00:07:28.760 which enables illegal aliens to act like they have Social Security numbers?

00:07:33.840 Why are we talking about a crazy ICE nurse and not any kind of systemic issue like this?

00:07:41.620 Now, as best I could tell, the only Republican who's proposing any kind of meaningful legislation

00:07:45.820 on this front is a state lawmaker from Utah named Trevor Lee.

00:07:50.560 This is from a local news station in the state.

00:07:52.400 A bill introduced by Representative Trevor Lee that would end the driving privilege card program

00:07:58.100 for immigrants is currently in the House Rules Committee, waiting to be discussed.

00:08:01.800 A driving privilege card is issued to undocumented immigrants without lawful presence status.

00:08:07.100 It is a Class D license that allows the holder to drive a motor vehicle

00:08:10.180 but cannot be used as identification by any Utah government entity,

00:08:13.860 according to the Driver License Division.

00:08:16.000 These cards can also be issued to individuals who are paroled in the U.S.

00:08:19.420 This is obviously a good idea, but you have to ask,

00:08:22.520 why are states giving driving privilege cards to illegal aliens in the first place?

00:08:28.220 Why would we do anything to make life easier for people who broke our laws and don't belong here?

00:08:34.100 Why hasn't Congress passed a federal law banning this practice nationwide?

00:08:38.340 To be clear, most Republicans are not taking Trevor Lee's approach.

00:08:43.400 Instead, the most prominent GOP politicians in Washington,

00:08:47.680 the Republicans with actual power in Congress, many of them,

00:08:51.700 are currently taking the Democrat position on illegal migration.

00:08:55.800 Here's Tom Tillis, the senator from North Carolina, just the other day.

00:08:59.800 Watch.

00:09:00.040 What message will it send to the country if Christine Nelm continues as Secretary of Homeland Security?

00:09:07.240 That we're allowing incompetent people in very prominent roles in the cabinet.

00:09:11.700 I mean, because the president doesn't seem to be willing to get rid of her.

00:09:50.040 Now, it's almost word for word what Ilhan Omar was saying before the alien from the first Men in Black movie squirted some vinegar on her.

00:09:59.960 There's really no daylight between a senior Republican senator from a red state and a Muslim communist who openly despises this country and wants to destroy it from within.

00:10:07.160 And the reason these two politicians are in total agreement is that a leftist domestic terrorist who deliberately instigated several violent confrontations with ICE agents in order to obstruct them received exactly the fate that he was looking for.

00:10:19.760 And it's not just Tom Tillis who's leaving Noam out to dry.

00:10:24.620 Lisa Markowski from Alaska, whose term runs until January 2029, said Noam should not be running DHS.

00:10:31.900 Yes, she should go, Markowski said.

00:10:33.560 Senate Majority Leader John Thune sidesteped Tuesday when asked if he had confidence in Noam.

00:10:38.540 She serves the pleasure of the president.

00:10:39.740 He told reporters the important thing is that the president's got confidence in his team.

00:10:44.060 Centrist Senator Susan Collins from Maine, who chairs the Appropriations Committee that controls the DHS budget, didn't go as far as Markowski or Tillis when asked about Noam.

00:10:52.320 I've urged her to have a pause in both Minnesota and Maine on this surge of enforcement.

00:10:57.960 You know, it's always the case that when Democrat and Republican establishments agree on something, and many of them agree right now on this, well, we need to pause.

00:11:07.020 We need to pull back.

00:11:08.000 We need to moderate a bit.

00:11:11.500 And when you see that, you need to look very closely at why they agree.

00:11:15.840 It's not because they're losing sleep over a psychotic nurse who got himself killed.

00:11:19.560 It's not because they can't stomach the concept of immigration enforcement.

00:11:23.440 To be clear, right now, Democrats are going on camera and threatening physical retribution against ICE agents for doing their job.

00:11:32.840 This is the party that Republicans are, some of them, siding with when it comes to the job of the Homeland Security Secretary.

00:11:38.980 Here's New Jersey's governor, for example.

00:11:44.600 We are putting out information on helping New Jerseans know their rights.

00:11:50.080 We are not going to allow any ICE raids to be staged from state properties.

00:11:54.980 And we are also going to be standing up a portal so people can upload all their cell phone videos and alert people.

00:12:02.660 Like, if you see an ICE agent in the street, get your phone out.

00:12:05.460 We want to know because they have not been forthcoming.

00:12:13.240 They will pick people up.

00:12:14.260 They will not tell us who they are.

00:12:15.960 They will not tell us if they're here legally.

00:12:19.120 They'll pick up American citizens.

00:12:20.500 They picked up a five-year-old child.

00:12:22.340 We want documentation, and we are going to make sure we get it.

00:12:27.440 No, she's totally lying, of course, but everything she just said.

00:12:30.240 Like, this is not legal.

00:12:31.660 This is not even close to legal, obviously.

00:12:33.740 Creating a database for people to use in their efforts to obstruct law enforcement.

00:12:42.440 This is a criminal conspiracy.

00:12:46.980 And you'd think it would take an awful lot for Republicans to join forces with somebody like this.

00:12:50.780 She's advocating for the creation of a database that leftists can use to harass, attack, and ultimately murder ICE agents.

00:12:59.300 But maybe it's not so surprising to see bipartisan agreement on this point.

00:13:02.120 Because, after all, the business interests that largely fund both parties have become very happy with, if not dependent on, the fact that millions of illegal aliens with fake Social Security numbers provided by the IRS are working for their companies and taking out their loans.

00:13:18.820 That would explain why the Cato Institute, which is supposedly a libertarian think tank, although it's really an arm of the Democrat Party that Republicans pretend to take seriously, just put out this remarkable video along with some accompanying research.

00:13:32.860 Now, watch as Cato attempts to make the argument that American citizens are more of a drain on our welfare system than illegal aliens.

00:13:39.880 Watch.

00:13:40.120 Immigrant consumption of welfare benefits is a huge issue in the immigration debate.

00:13:46.560 And it makes sense because the federal government and state governments spend about $3.4 trillion a year in welfare benefits in the United States.

00:13:55.120 But when you drill down into the data, what you find is that immigrants consume, on a per capita basis, 24% fewer welfare benefits than native-born Americans do.

00:14:06.400 And then when you drill down even further, you find that non-citizens consume 53% less.

00:14:11.520 And non-citizens, that includes illegal immigrants, green card holders, student visas, all the above.

00:14:16.100 So while the welfare state is a big problem in American politics, and it's a huge issue that so many people are on welfare, it's not an imported problem.

00:14:24.680 It's a native-born, homegrown problem.

00:14:27.320 And if you really want to do something about it, what we should do is build a higher wall around the welfare state, not around the country.

00:14:42.100 Now, the point of this video is to provide Republicans with a talking point, which they can use as an excuse for caving on immigration enforcement.

00:14:53.220 I mean, first of all, to be clear, he's counting Social Security as welfare, even though it's really a Ponzi scheme that you pay into and that you can only access when you're relatively old.

00:15:01.840 Obviously, illegal aliens, many of whom do not arrive in this country at the age of 65, are not going to be receiving a lot of Social Security benefits.

00:15:08.480 But more importantly, if you do what he says and actually read the research on Cato's website, here's what you'll find.

00:15:15.420 Quote, all comparisons in this brief are calculated on a per capita basis rather than per household, which avoids attributing native-born welfare consumption to immigrants living in mixed status households.

00:15:25.320 What this means is that if an illegal alien has 10 children in the U.S. in her household and every single one of those 10 anchor babies receives food stamps and free education and free housing for life, then under Cato's statistical model, they don't count as immigrants receiving welfare.

00:15:41.780 After all, thanks to birthright citizenship, those 10 anchor babies are U.S. citizens.

00:15:45.180 So you're not allowed to count any of those benefits that those anchor babies receive, according to Cato.

00:15:51.000 Obviously, the point of this statistic is to obscure the enormous toll that illegal aliens and their offspring have on our economy.

00:15:59.360 And of course, the Cato study doesn't account for the billions of dollars in fraud that illegal aliens commit every year.

00:16:06.220 In just one state, Minnesota, they've been caught stealing hundreds of millions of dollars in a matter of months, as we all know now.

00:16:12.120 It's not just happening in Minnesota.

00:16:13.400 Here's a recent case from Massachusetts where some Haitian migrants set up a couple of fraudulent grocery stores and robbed the SNAP program out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

00:16:24.080 Again, it's just one case.

00:16:26.900 Bonner, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Haiti, owned the Gisuela Variety Store.

00:16:35.540 Elise May, a lawful permanent resident also from Haiti, owned the Saoul Maché Mixé Store.

00:16:41.620 These two businesses were co-located within a single storefront in Boston.

00:16:48.040 To be certain, these were not supermarkets.

00:16:51.140 They were not full-service groceries.

00:16:53.580 It would be a huge stretch to even call them convenience stores.

00:16:57.560 In fact, the only thing convenient about these stores was how easy it was to commit SNAP benefit fraud.

00:17:03.560 To put this in perspective, the Gisuela Variety Store is less than 150 square feet in size, smaller than some bathrooms.

00:17:14.060 The Saoul Maché Mixé Store was approximately 500 square feet in space.

00:17:18.660 By contrast, a supermarket can be 20,000 to 60,000 square feet in size, have a dozen or more registers, and employ numerous employees.

00:17:29.540 Both the Gisuela Variety and Saoul Maché Mixé stores had one register, no carriages, no handbaskets, and very little food for sale.

00:17:39.720 One legitimate supermarket in the same area as these stores redeems approximately $80,000 in SNAP benefits per month.

00:17:49.960 Over the last 20 months, the Gisuela Variety Store was redeeming between three and six times that amount monthly,

00:17:58.800 with nowhere near the space, inventory, customers, or infrastructure to support it.

00:18:04.420 The Saoul Maché Mixé Store redeemed over $120,000 in SNAP benefits in the last six months.

00:18:14.600 Now, if you end the SNAP program, all this stops.

00:18:17.420 As we discussed before, the SNAP program should obviously be terminated.

00:18:20.720 Contrary to what that woman said, the SNAP program does not prevent Americans from going hungry.

00:18:25.780 Roughly three-quarters of adult food stamp beneficiaries are overweight or obese.

00:18:30.000 I'll say that again, three-quarters of SNAP recipients are overweight or obese.

00:18:36.020 They are not starving at all. It's not even close.

00:18:38.900 Millions of these people claim to be disabled, so they don't have to work.

00:18:42.500 They just upload TikTok videos all day about all the free food they're getting.

00:18:45.860 Is there any sane person who really thinks that one in eight Americans, more than 40 million people,

00:18:50.340 really need taxpayer assistance or else they'll starve?

00:18:54.260 What do people think this is? Mogadishu?

00:18:56.160 And then, once we get rid of SNAP, we should get rid of the ITIN system as well.

00:19:02.620 Start scrapping programs like this one by one, and the illegal aliens will leave much faster than we could deport them.

00:19:10.360 I'm all in favor of deporting them. We should be deporting them.

00:19:13.360 We should go in and find every single one of them and deport them.

00:19:15.780 But we could also be doing this.

00:19:19.000 You take away all the incentives for them to come in the first place,

00:19:21.900 and all the systems they're using to take advantage of this country.

00:19:35.080 Every politician telling Kristi Noem to resign is doing so for a simple reason.

00:20:19.600 They need to escalate the fight against illegal migrants in a strategic and sensible way.

00:20:26.540 Treat them like any foreign invasion force, along with the deportations.
