00:00:32.540 But if they fail to make any progress towards making a film after a while, then they run the risk of losing the rights entirely.

00:00:39.160 So studios can't buy the rights to a major franchise and then take a long time figuring out what kind of movie they're going to make.

00:00:44.680 They're under pressure to produce content quickly.

00:00:47.340 For Spider-Man, for example, Sony committed to begin production on new films within three years and nine months of their last release.

00:00:53.500 and they must get into theaters within five years and nine months of their last release.

00:00:58.680 This has been standard in the industry for a long time.

00:01:02.000 The very first film adaptation of The Hobbit, a lot of people don't realize, was made in 1967

00:01:07.680 and the film was just 12 minutes long and was produced in less than a month.

00:01:22.400 And the only reason for the film's existence was to allow the producer to keep the license to Lord of the Rings so that he could sell it back to the Tolkien estate for a $100,000 profit.

00:01:31.040 So he scrambled to put together this atrocious production where the one ring doesn't even do anything and the animation doesn't animate in order to hold on to the rights.

00:01:39.720 More recently, New Line Cinema acquired the rights to the film adaptations of The Lord of the Rings, and it cost them a lot more than $100,000.

00:01:47.480 But the same general rule applies to New Line Cinema.

00:01:50.260 A new line is compelled to pump out new Lord of the Rings content, or else they'll lose the deal.

00:01:55.880 Doesn't matter how bad or pointless the content may be, they're contractually forced to have something in motion.

00:02:02.600 And that's why in 2024, something called The Lord of the Rings, The War of the Rohirrim was released.

00:02:10.680 Apparently it was some kind of anime, which as you know is my favorite.

00:02:15.220 And as you can see from this poster, the protagonist was a woman, the fiercely independent daughter of the legendary King of Rohan.

00:02:23.560 For obvious reasons, nobody watched this film. No one liked it.

00:02:26.640 It wasn't actually based on anything in the books.

00:02:28.680 They took a no-name character from a footnote in an appendix of Return of the King and made her the protagonist.

00:02:34.560 And they wrote a script very quickly, too.

00:02:38.600 The animated film was developed and fast-tracked to ensure that New Line Cinema didn't lose the film adaptation rights for Tolkien's novels, while Jackson and the teams behind the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies were working on two new live-action films for 2026 and beyond.

00:02:54.360 The first of those live-action films has been titled The Hunt for Gollum, and it's slated to come out next year.

00:03:01.240 Everyone already knows it will be horrible because it has no reason to exist.

00:03:05.280 There's a reason that Tolkien didn't devote much time to this particular series of events in the

00:03:09.780 books. Just not that interesting. It's also a prequel with no stakes because we all know how

00:03:15.200 the story turns out. We know that Gollum is captured and gets away and then the next movie

00:03:19.500 happens. But they have to make The Hunt for Gollum or else they'll lose the movie rights.

00:03:24.660 They're contractually obligated to pump this garbage out. They can't take 10 years and come 0.89

00:03:29.480 up with a better, more compelling, more interesting film. They got to produce it right now. And then

00:03:34.400 once they're done with this one, they need to have a follow-up in the pipeline. So the pace is

00:03:38.900 relentless by design. And here's the key point. While the studios would prefer that the movies do

00:03:43.900 well, that's actually a secondary objective. Their primary goal is to simply get a movie out,

00:03:50.160 any movie, so that they can hold on to the rights for as long as possible. And the so-called

00:03:55.240 creative team, the writers and executives, understand this mandate very well. They know

00:04:00.480 that when executives are desperate for a film, it's extremely easy to inject obvious, lazy,

00:04:06.360 feminist propaganda into an established story. That's exactly what's happening now to The Lord 1.00

00:04:11.740 of the Rings. It was evident in that atrocious anime film that nobody watched. It was evident

00:04:17.900 in the Amazon atrocity, the series that they put out. It's especially evident in the new Lord of

00:04:23.780 the Rings film that's going to be written primarily by Stephen Colbert and his Nepo baby son, which

00:04:31.320 already gives the game away. Colbert's only relevant experience for this gig is that he

00:04:35.820 destroyed late night television, which used to be a major part of American culture. And precisely

00:04:39.960 because of that recent experience, not in spite of it, Colbert has been brought on board to

00:04:44.240 obliterate the relevance of The Lord of the Rings, one of the great landmarks in Western literature.

00:05:13.280 But the thing I found myself reading over and over again were the six chapters early on in the fellowship

00:05:27.360 And I thought, oh, wait, maybe that could be its own story

00:05:30.680 that could fit into the larger story.

00:05:38.380 while also being completely faithful to the movies that you guys had already made?

00:05:43.080 And I started talking it over with my son, Peter, who's also a screenwriter,

00:06:20.900 And one of the problems here, aside from the fact that Colbert can't even write one-liners on late night, much less the whole screenplay,

00:06:26.140 is that Colbert claims to be a Catholic, but he doesn't take any of those canonical teachings seriously at all. 0.76

00:06:37.680 So you probably shouldn't hold your breath if you think Stephen Colbert, of all people, is going to take any text seriously,

00:06:49.980 even if you don't know anything about the Lord of the Rings at all, think about what he just said

00:06:54.280 for a second. He's saying that there are six chapters in the Fellowship of the Ring which

00:06:58.000 quote, could be its own story which could fit into the larger story. That's exactly what

00:07:01.920 these chapters already are. There are six chapters in a larger story. They aren't a story all by

00:07:06.760 themselves. And those six chapters are so unimportant relative to the rest of the book

00:07:11.300 that they were mostly, but not entirely, dropped from the Peter Jackson films.

00:07:15.920 There was no Tom Bombadil in the films, for example.

00:07:19.100 But now we're supposed to believe that these six chapters

00:07:21.720 are actually a self-contained story that justify an entirely new film.

00:07:27.940 So how will that work exactly?

00:07:29.460 What's the framing device that Stephen Colbert is talking about?

00:07:33.580 Well, if you pull up the log line for this doomed project,

00:08:58.080 there are so few female characters that there's only, and I think in all the trilogies, there's

00:09:01.640 only one scene where two female characters interact with each other and it lasts about

00:09:06.720 two seconds. Now, modern Hollywood sees that as a sin that must be rectified. Their intent on

00:09:14.360 feminizing the franchise and injecting female characters into it. They've decided that Tolkien's

00:09:21.380 almost exclusively male story about male heroism must be retold through a feminist lens.

00:09:30.100 So effectively, this is like feminist reparations. And if it bombs, they don't care. Win or lose, 1.00

00:15:13.280 if membership is low, the solution is not to destroy the organization, nor is the solution

00:15:18.040 to promote gay scouts and hold LGBTQ struggle sessions or whatever. The solution is to build

00:15:23.360 an organization in which parents, not random pedophiles, organize outdoor activities that

00:15:27.940 are actually interesting to young men. If you're having trouble attracting young men to your

00:15:32.160 organization, then work on making the organization more appealing to young men and feminizing it and

00:15:37.620 bringing girls in will have the opposite effect. So, you know, you follow the trajectory here, 0.97

00:16:09.300 Scouts did decide to only be for boys, it's possible that Democrats would sue over that

00:18:19.740 to the media right now, a lot of think pieces and profiles about the women who are part

00:18:32.720 They showed up to a heavily male space, immediately got their feelings hurt because men are acting 0.56

00:18:39.000 and speaking like men, and then went crying about it and demanding that changes are made

00:18:44.620 So that's why people are less eager to make the case for male-only spaces, because it requires you to be more honest than most people are prepared to be.

00:19:02.500 The left now defines a girl as anyone who claims to be a girl, so how exactly do the Girl Scouts prevent a male pervert from saying that he's a girl so that he could take advantage of the situation?
