The Matt Walsh Show - Ep. 205 - Climate Alarmism Has Turned Into A Cult

00:00:00.000 Today on The Matt Walsh Show, environmentalism has turned into a doomsday cult.

00:00:04.700 So we'll talk about the apocalyptic fervor that is now gripping the climate alarmists.

00:00:10.740 Also, a basketball announcer has been suspended for making a completely innocuous comment

00:00:14.980 that disingenuous people have interpreted as racist.

00:00:18.440 We'll talk about that.

00:00:19.200 Bill Maher is sneering at small-town Americans,

00:00:23.280 but he's doing so in a way that is really embarrassing for him

00:00:27.980 and shows how out of touch he is.

00:00:29.220 And finally, Michael Jackson's cultish followers have been coming after me

00:00:34.300 insisting that a man who shared his bed with little boys wasn't actually a pervert.

00:00:38.760 So we'll talk about why they're completely wrong and also perhaps crazy today on The Matt Walsh Show.

00:00:49.520 Well, folks, the Oscars were last night, and it's pretty exciting stuff.

00:00:54.320 It appears that this and that movie won, and people were upset because this happened and that happened.

00:01:02.500 This person wore an outrageous outfit, so on and so forth, yada yada, etc.

00:01:07.900 That's my coverage of the Academy Awards.

00:01:11.980 I couldn't make myself care about this kind of thing if you paid me.

00:01:16.940 And, well, actually, I guess I am paid to care about the news,

00:01:20.160 but I still don't care about this.

00:01:22.440 I just can't manage to do it.

00:01:24.420 All I ever think about when I see that something like the Academy Awards is on,

00:01:29.620 all I ever can think is, what must the space aliens think?

00:01:35.200 The space aliens that I'm sure are somewhere out there on planet Galvatron or whatever,

00:01:40.100 and they're watching our television feed, and they see something like the Academy Awards,

00:01:45.480 and they see, you know, three and a half hours of people congratulating themselves,

00:01:50.500 and then other people sit around in their homes and watch those people congratulate themselves.

00:01:55.720 What must the aliens think?

00:01:58.160 They must be very confused about it as they plot their mission to come and take over the world

00:02:07.660 and enslave mankind, which is an eventuality that I personally welcome. 1.00

00:02:12.420 Now, I do have a lot of, I think, more interesting things to talk about today, though,

00:02:17.240 and we're going to get to all that.

00:02:19.160 But before we do, let's check in with policy genius.

00:02:22.880 You know, getting life insurance can feel like a jigsaw puzzle sometimes.

00:02:27.920 It's very confusing, especially in my case because I'm a very easily confused person.

00:02:33.480 Like, I wanted to toast a bagel yesterday, and I had to look up a YouTube tutorial

00:02:38.500 and spend three hours studying before I toasted the bagel.

00:02:41.860 So I'm very easily confused.

00:02:44.020 But even if you're not like me, even if you're smarter than me,

00:02:46.720 it still is a difficult thing to do.

00:02:49.600 Life insurance can be pretty daunting.

00:02:51.440 Yet, if you have kids, if you have a family, if you have a mortgage, any of the above,

00:02:55.420 it's something that you've got to figure out.

00:02:56.840 Policy genius is the easy way to get life insurance.

00:03:00.240 Emphasis on easy and quick, too.

00:03:02.040 So that means in just two minutes, you can compare quotes from top insurers to find the best policy.

00:03:06.300 You don't have to worry about all the red tape and all that kind of stuff,

00:03:08.420 because when you apply online, the advisors at policy genius will take care of all that for you.

00:03:14.200 They'll take the lead.

00:03:15.480 They'll get you through the process.

00:03:17.860 And they'll even negotiate your rate with the insurance company.

00:03:21.300 There's no hidden fees or anything like that to worry about.

00:03:23.480 No commissioned sales agents.

00:03:25.700 What you see is what you get.

00:03:26.620 Helpful advice.

00:03:27.460 Personalized service.

00:03:28.800 That's it.

00:03:29.300 So if you find life insurance confusing, like I do, go to policygenius.com.

00:03:33.840 In two minutes, you can compare quotes.

00:03:35.560 You can find the right policy.

00:03:36.580 Save up to 40%.

00:03:37.640 And you don't have to take on this puzzle by yourself without some help.

00:03:42.880 I would recommend that you don't.

00:03:44.500 Life insurance is definitely more confusing than toasting a bagel.

00:03:48.780 I can tell you that.

00:03:50.220 Unless you have policy genius.

00:03:51.900 The easy way to compare and buy life insurance.

00:03:56.340 Okay.

00:03:57.720 Now, I don't know where to begin.

00:03:58.920 Let's just start with this.

00:04:00.220 On Friday, a bunch of children with something called the Sunrise Movement, which is apparently

00:04:07.860 an environmentalist group.

00:04:10.240 They went into Senator Feinstein's office, Diane Feinstein.

00:04:14.340 They went into her office in D.C. to harass her for not supporting the insane Green New Deal. 1.00

00:04:20.940 Now, Feinstein, who, as I'm sure you know, is no friend to the conservative movement.

00:04:26.760 And I'm not a fan of hers at all, to put it mildly.

00:04:31.280 But she, for the last few days, has been unfairly maligned for allegedly being disrespectful to these poor little children who went to her office to talk to her about the Green New Deal.

00:04:44.440 So, that's the impression that was supposedly given by the two-minute video that I'm about to show you.

00:04:51.300 A video that, of course, what do you know, has been edited to make her look bad because the full video tells a different story.

00:04:58.940 And I'll get to that in a minute.

00:05:00.600 But for now, let's just take a look.

00:05:02.820 Let's take a look at the deceptive video.

00:05:04.780 So, here's the two-minute video that this environmentalist group put out.

00:05:09.800 We're going to go in and share this letter, and we're going to do it all together.

00:05:14.160 Share it in front of Feinstein.

00:05:16.320 We're asking her to vote yes on the Green New Deal. 0.56

00:05:20.840 We are trying to ask you to vote yes on the Green New Deal.

00:05:25.580 No, please.

00:05:26.520 Okay, I'll tell you what.

00:05:28.680 We have our own Green New Deal.

00:05:31.280 Some scientists have said that we have 12 years to turn this around.

00:05:36.780 Well, it's not going to get turned around in 10 years.

00:05:39.980 What we can do is put ourselves...

00:05:41.240 Senator, if this doesn't get turned around in 10 years, you're looking at the faces of the people who are going to be living with these consequences.

00:05:47.820 The government is supposed to be for the people and by the people and all for the people.

00:05:51.480 You know what's interesting about this group is I've been doing this for 30 years.

00:05:57.220 I know what I'm doing.

00:05:58.880 You come in here, and you say it has to be my way or the highway.

00:06:04.440 I don't respond to that.

00:06:06.940 I've gotten elected.

00:06:08.620 I just ran.

00:06:10.240 I was elected by almost a million vote plurality.

00:06:15.040 And I know what I'm doing.

00:06:17.660 So, you know, maybe people should listen a little bit.

00:06:21.700 I hear what you're saying, but we're the people who voted you.

00:06:25.000 You're supposed to listen to us.

00:06:26.600 That's your job.

00:06:27.880 I'm 16.

00:06:29.140 I can't vote.

00:06:29.500 Well, you didn't vote for me.

00:06:30.680 I'm going to vote for you.

00:06:31.720 It doesn't matter.

00:06:32.460 We're the ones who are going to be impacted.

00:06:34.800 It doesn't matter.

00:06:35.660 We're going to be the ones who are impacted.

00:06:37.540 I understand that.

00:06:39.200 I have seven grandchildren.

00:06:41.240 I understand it very well.

00:06:43.340 Senator, the cost of not taking this action is far higher than the cost of what the Green New Deal will be.

00:06:48.820 And there is enormous popularity for this bill around the whole country.

00:06:53.600 And we're asking you to be brave and do this for us and for your grandchildren.

00:06:59.380 I'm trying to do the best I can, which was to write a responsible resolution.

00:07:05.240 Any plan that doesn't take full transformative action is not going to be what we need.

00:07:10.580 Well, you know better than I do.

00:07:12.960 So I think one day you should run for the Senate.

00:07:15.900 Great.

00:07:16.300 And then you do it your way.

00:07:17.580 But by that time, by that time, there's going to be a big problem.

00:07:21.760 I just won a big election.

00:07:24.660 Okay.

00:07:25.060 Now, as I said, that, of course, is not the full story because it never is.

00:07:28.040 And here's the thing.

00:07:29.420 At some point, we all have to learn this lesson.

00:07:33.420 And I'm not sure why so many people still struggle to understand that.

00:07:40.080 Listen, when you see a video online that everybody's getting outraged about,

00:07:46.020 and you see the video is a two-minute or 30-second or one-minute clip

00:07:52.380 of some sort of out-of-context discussion or event or altercation,

00:07:59.020 just assume right away, just assume from the very beginning

00:08:03.560 that it's misleading and that there's more to the story.

00:08:06.020 Just in every single time, assume that.

00:08:09.220 So whenever people are getting outraged over a two-minute out-of-context clip

00:08:12.360 that you can tell has been, there have been parts cut out,

00:08:14.600 and there was parts before that and parts after that that you don't see,

00:08:17.440 just assume that there's, just assume it.

00:08:20.460 Don't join the outrage.

00:08:21.700 You could just know right away there is definitely more to this story.

00:08:25.360 Okay, somebody took this part of the exchange,

00:08:28.060 and they left out the rest, and there's a reason for that.

00:08:31.820 So if you look at the whole video, it was like 15 minutes,

00:08:35.760 and if you look at that, you see that Feinstein was actually incredibly patient

00:08:40.720 with these kids, way more patient than I would be.

00:08:42.600 She even offered one of them an internship, which, what do you know,

00:08:47.200 the good folks at the Sunrise Movement decided to cut that part out.

00:08:51.120 I wonder why they cut that out.

00:08:53.340 Because obviously they have an agenda.

00:08:56.340 But here's the thing.

00:08:57.660 Even in that short two-minute video,

00:09:01.940 even if that's all there was to it,

00:09:05.600 I'm still totally on the side of Dianne Feinstein,

00:09:08.800 and I don't get to say that very often, but I am in this case.

00:09:12.460 She was not the one being disrespectful.

00:09:15.500 Those kids were being disrespectful to her. 0.93

00:09:17.860 She's the adult in this situation, remember?

00:09:20.620 She's like 85 years old, and these are little kids,

00:09:24.740 teenagers and little kids that have come into her office

00:09:27.620 and are lecturing her and trying to instruct her

00:09:31.460 on what she needs to do.

00:09:32.900 Did you hear that?

00:09:35.360 The one girl in particular was, I couldn't even watch it.

00:09:38.480 The first time I saw that video, I had to look away

00:09:40.100 because I was just cringing.

00:09:42.280 And especially as a parent, I was just,

00:09:45.300 I mean, that one girl in particular was,

00:09:46.920 your job, let me tell you what your job is.

00:09:53.960 Although I did appreciate the part when they said,

00:09:56.060 but we're your voters, you need to listen to us.

00:09:58.480 And she said, well, but you're 16, you're not my voters,

00:10:00.840 you didn't vote for me.

00:10:02.460 Now, you know, I'm old-fashioned,

00:10:06.120 so I still believe in respecting your elders,

00:10:08.600 and that's something that you gotta teach kids.

00:10:10.260 So kids don't talk to adults that way.

00:10:12.580 That's not how I'm raising my kids.

00:10:15.280 You don't go and talk to an adult.

00:10:16.660 It doesn't matter if she's a senator, 0.54

00:10:17.940 or if she's a janitor, it doesn't matter who she is.

00:10:20.680 You don't talk to an adult that way.

00:10:22.480 You need to have respect for adults.

00:10:24.440 Now, but I don't blame the kids, really,

00:10:29.480 for their awful and embarrassing behavior.

00:10:32.760 And it was awful and embarrassing.

00:10:35.560 And if those were my children,

00:10:37.060 I would be totally ashamed.

00:10:39.980 I would be ashamed of their behavior.

00:10:41.520 I'd be ashamed of myself.

00:10:42.820 I'd be ashamed of myself, especially.

00:10:45.080 So, you know, I blame the parents for this.

00:10:47.680 When I was a kid,

00:10:48.740 if I ever spoke to an elderly woman like that, 1.00

00:10:51.800 I'd be at home right now, grounded,

00:10:55.780 and writing a heartfelt letter of apology,

00:10:59.940 a letter of apology that my dad would be,

00:11:02.200 you know, checking,

00:11:04.280 and then making editorial comments,

00:11:07.000 and making me go back and write it again.

00:11:08.600 Like, that's how I'd be spending my day,

00:11:10.920 is working on this letter of apology

00:11:12.480 to the woman that I had terribly disrespected.

00:11:14.980 But I had competent parents,

00:11:19.600 you know, who actually cared about forming me

00:11:22.560 into a, at least somewhat respectable adult.

00:11:26.480 But these children apparently don't.

00:11:29.220 And when you don't have competent parents

00:11:32.340 guiding you and instructing you on how to behave,

00:11:35.520 especially around your elders,

00:11:37.200 then you can't really be expected

00:11:39.440 to figure it out on your own.

00:11:40.840 Kids don't figure that kind of stuff out.

00:11:42.640 Like, if you don't tell a kid

00:11:44.400 and work with a child to be respectful,

00:11:47.320 they're not going to just figure it out.

00:11:48.660 Then it just becomes Lord of the Flies,

00:11:50.260 and you're going to end up with

00:11:51.380 bratty kids like that.

00:11:54.360 So I blame this on the parents. 0.98

00:11:56.660 And I'll tell you something else

00:11:57.760 that I blame on the parents

00:11:58.940 and on the adults around these kids.

00:12:03.100 And this is the thing that really jumped out at me.

00:12:05.040 This is what makes that video so disturbing.

00:12:08.140 More than the utter disrespect of these bratty kids,

00:12:12.620 it's how truly scared they seem to be.

00:12:17.880 I mean, these kids really think the world's going to end.

00:12:21.920 They really do.

00:12:24.700 And they think that because that's what they've been told.

00:12:29.080 Climate alarmism,

00:12:30.820 climate alarmism has become a doomsday cult.

00:12:33.880 It is more than just alarmism now.

00:12:36.140 It is like doomsday Jim Jones territory

00:12:42.340 that we're in now. 0.95

00:12:43.480 These maniacs, 0.98

00:12:44.480 and when I say maniacs, 0.99

00:12:45.480 I'm not talking about the kids.

00:12:46.200 I'm talking about the adults. 0.99

00:12:48.380 These maniacs are running around screaming 0.99

00:12:50.940 that the world is going to end. 0.99

00:12:52.520 That's literally what they're doing.

00:12:54.620 They're saying the world is coming to an end.

00:12:57.660 For example,

00:12:58.780 here's a clip from good old AOC,

00:13:01.760 Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

00:13:02.780 Here she is last month

00:13:04.300 saying that the world is coming to an end.

00:13:06.200 And I think that the part of it

00:13:10.560 that is generational

00:13:11.800 is that millennials and people,

00:13:15.800 and you know,

00:13:16.280 Gen Z and all these folks that come after us 1.00

00:13:18.620 are looking up

00:13:20.000 and we're like,

00:13:21.240 the world is going to end in 12 years

00:13:23.680 if we don't address climate change.

00:13:25.340 And your biggest issue

00:13:26.720 is

00:13:28.080 your biggest issue

00:13:31.740 is

00:13:32.160 how are we going to pay for it?

00:13:34.540 And like,

00:13:35.600 this is the war.

00:13:36.980 This is our World War II.

00:13:38.700 The world is going to end

00:13:40.400 in 12 years,

00:13:42.200 she says.

00:13:42.640 12 years.

00:13:43.140 She even put a time limit 0.67

00:13:45.380 on it.

00:13:46.300 I mean,

00:13:46.500 that's what the doomsday cultists do.

00:13:48.500 That's what the cult leaders do

00:13:49.560 is they give you an exact

00:13:50.860 date

00:13:53.320 when the world's going to end.

00:13:54.380 And that's what she's doing here.

00:13:56.600 These are doomsday prophets

00:13:58.140 predicting the exact date

00:14:00.620 of the end of the world.

00:14:03.040 Where did she get that from?

00:14:04.200 Where did she get 12 years from?

00:14:05.340 Well,

00:14:05.480 she didn't get it from science,

00:14:06.480 I'll tell you that.

00:14:07.040 She just got it from her fevered

00:14:09.260 imagination.

00:14:11.480 And,

00:14:11.820 you know,

00:14:12.780 you and I

00:14:13.540 can listen to this kind of 0.99

00:14:15.040 hysterical nonsense 0.86

00:14:16.040 and we can sift through it 0.96

00:14:19.120 and we can see it for what it is.

00:14:21.420 But kids

00:14:22.420 are not able to do that.

00:14:25.200 Which is why

00:14:26.080 climate alarmism

00:14:27.340 is child abuse.

00:14:30.120 Because it is

00:14:30.840 psychologically traumatizing

00:14:32.520 to kids

00:14:32.960 who don't know any better.

00:14:34.520 You know,

00:14:34.720 when you tell a child

00:14:35.780 that the world is going to end

00:14:37.020 and the ice caps are going to melt,

00:14:38.320 we're all going to drown

00:14:39.200 in a few years,

00:14:40.320 that's abuse.

00:14:41.760 That is psychological abuse.

00:14:43.600 That is traumatizing

00:14:44.700 for a child

00:14:45.200 to be told that.

00:14:46.880 I mean,

00:14:47.060 I know when I was a kid,

00:14:48.600 I can remember that

00:14:49.620 the big thing was

00:14:50.480 deforestation.

00:14:52.220 And I was told in school

00:14:53.580 that all the trees

00:14:55.040 are being cut down

00:14:55.920 and soon enough

00:14:56.980 there's not going to be

00:14:57.480 any oxygen left in the world

00:14:58.840 and we're all going to die. 0.65

00:15:00.960 And that was terrifying

00:15:02.060 because when you're a kid

00:15:03.400 and you're,

00:15:03.840 now when you're an adult 0.72

00:15:04.880 and you have a brain

00:15:05.480 in your head

00:15:05.940 and you hear that,

00:15:07.160 you think,

00:15:07.460 okay,

00:15:07.760 all right,

00:15:08.880 calm down.

00:15:09.380 Like,

00:15:09.700 yeah,

00:15:09.960 I mean,

00:15:10.240 we should try to

00:15:11.540 not cut down

00:15:12.760 all the trees

00:15:13.400 and we should try

00:15:14.320 to plant new trees

00:15:15.240 when we cut down.

00:15:15.940 I mean,

00:15:16.160 yeah,

00:15:16.620 fine,

00:15:17.740 but don't tell me

00:15:19.060 that we're all going to die

00:15:20.220 because the Amazon rainforest

00:15:21.740 is being cut down.

00:15:23.320 Don't tell me that.

00:15:24.060 So as an adult,

00:15:25.080 I can say that,

00:15:25.760 but as a child,

00:15:27.080 I can remember being

00:15:28.040 in third grade

00:15:29.120 sitting in a classroom

00:15:29.960 being told this stuff

00:15:31.020 and it was just

00:15:35.260 absolutely horrifying

00:15:36.880 to hear

00:15:37.300 and it scared me to death.

00:15:40.760 And it's not fair

00:15:41.660 to do that to kids.

00:15:43.060 Even if you think

00:15:43.900 you're doing it

00:15:44.560 for a good cause,

00:15:46.780 it still does not

00:15:48.000 make it okay

00:15:48.560 to lie to children.

00:15:49.720 It was the same 0.52

00:15:50.280 kind of thing.

00:15:50.880 I don't want to

00:15:51.240 get off track here,

00:15:52.380 but it was the same

00:15:52.860 kind of thing

00:15:53.380 when I was growing up,

00:15:55.060 the anti-smoking crusade.

00:15:57.840 And so they were really,

00:15:58.880 you know,

00:15:59.040 they're really intent

00:15:59.680 on making sure kids

00:16:00.440 don't smoke cigarettes,

00:16:01.360 which is a good goal

00:16:02.620 because it's good

00:16:04.720 to stop kids

00:16:05.280 from smoking cigarettes.

00:16:06.140 But what they told us,

00:16:07.500 I can remember being told,

00:16:08.600 the impression

00:16:09.260 that I was given

00:16:09.960 as a kid

00:16:10.500 is that

00:16:11.840 if you are even

00:16:13.840 in the same room

00:16:15.300 for a few minutes

00:16:16.440 as someone

00:16:17.640 who's smoking a cigarette,

00:16:18.760 you could get cancer

00:16:19.520 and die. 0.95

00:16:20.060 That is the distinct 0.71

00:16:21.440 impression I got.

00:16:22.400 Is that,

00:16:23.380 you know,

00:16:24.180 it's like ingesting

00:16:25.080 anthrax

00:16:25.840 or something like that,

00:16:27.000 which of course 0.97

00:16:27.680 is completely ridiculous. 0.88

00:16:29.520 But I guess 0.98

00:16:30.220 what they thought is,

00:16:31.100 well,

00:16:31.200 let's just scare

00:16:32.160 these kids,

00:16:33.080 scare them straight,

00:16:34.000 lie to them, 0.56

00:16:34.780 and if in the end

00:16:36.400 they don't end up smoking,

00:16:37.380 then it was worth it.

00:16:39.220 But that is an

00:16:39.920 ends justify the means

00:16:41.480 just wrong way

00:16:44.620 of going about things.

00:16:46.240 And it's the same

00:16:47.160 sort of situation here. 0.77

00:16:48.220 It is hysterical nonsense

00:16:54.780 to say that the world

00:16:57.080 is coming to an end

00:16:58.320 or anything like that.

00:16:59.760 These apocalyptic predictions.

00:17:01.540 And I'm not saying

00:17:05.240 that we should,

00:17:06.680 you know,

00:17:08.680 be messing up

00:17:10.300 the environment

00:17:10.860 or dumping chemicals

00:17:11.940 into rivers

00:17:12.680 and throwing trash

00:17:14.340 everywhere.

00:17:16.040 Recycling is fine.

00:17:17.300 I mean,

00:17:17.420 all that stuff is fine.

00:17:18.680 But you can advocate

00:17:20.400 for that

00:17:21.200 without lying

00:17:22.460 and without being hysterical.

00:17:24.040 Speaking of being hysterical,

00:17:27.500 Eric Holthaus

00:17:28.820 is a meteorologist

00:17:30.680 with the

00:17:31.540 for some reason

00:17:32.920 a huge social media following.

00:17:34.440 This guy has like

00:17:35.160 hundreds of thousands

00:17:36.240 of followers on Twitter.

00:17:38.860 And here's what he tweeted

00:17:40.340 over the weekend.

00:17:41.300 He said,

00:17:42.720 preventing the Earth

00:17:44.140 from descending

00:17:44.880 into a lifeless husk

00:17:46.360 of a planet

00:17:46.960 in a geological blink

00:17:48.400 of an eye

00:17:48.940 is technologically possible,

00:17:51.060 experts say,

00:17:52.180 but it will require

00:17:53.660 confiscating unearned wealth

00:17:55.320 from billionaires

00:17:56.100 and ending the pointless wars

00:17:57.520 we've been fighting

00:17:58.540 for generations.

00:18:00.080 Now,

00:18:00.640 this tweet

00:18:01.840 got like

00:18:02.540 7,000

00:18:03.820 likes

00:18:05.020 on Twitter.

00:18:06.700 The Earth

00:18:07.560 is descending

00:18:08.440 into a lifeless husk.

00:18:11.020 And the only way

00:18:12.180 to stop it

00:18:12.920 is to confiscate wealth

00:18:14.280 from billionaires.

00:18:16.260 Now,

00:18:17.020 even if I agreed

00:18:19.560 that the Earth

00:18:20.560 is descending

00:18:21.100 into a lifeless husk,

00:18:22.340 how does taking money

00:18:23.420 from billionaires

00:18:24.040 and giving it

00:18:24.460 to other people,

00:18:25.020 how does that

00:18:25.740 help the environment

00:18:26.480 exactly?

00:18:26.880 How is that?

00:18:28.900 I don't understand

00:18:29.860 what that has to do

00:18:30.740 with the environment.

00:18:32.160 But of course,

00:18:32.840 the bigger point here

00:18:33.540 is that the Earth

00:18:34.400 is not descending

00:18:36.380 into a lifeless husk.

00:18:37.800 Yes,

00:18:38.180 eventually the Earth

00:18:39.200 will be a lifeless husk,

00:18:40.700 but it's not going to be

00:18:41.860 in the blink of an eye,

00:18:43.020 and it's not going to be

00:18:43.980 because you were driving

00:18:45.100 an SUV.

00:18:46.300 That's not going to be

00:18:47.240 the reason.

00:18:48.360 How arrogant 0.87

00:18:49.380 do you have to be 0.98

00:18:51.720 to believe

00:18:53.400 something like that?

00:18:54.140 So not only

00:18:54.680 is it hysterical,

00:18:55.780 nonsensical,

00:18:56.900 dishonest,

00:18:57.980 but it's also 0.88

00:18:58.960 so egotistical.

00:19:01.320 The Earth

00:19:01.960 has been around

00:19:02.580 for 4.5 billion years.

00:19:05.160 It has survived

00:19:06.080 asteroid strikes,

00:19:07.720 super volcanic eruptions,

00:19:09.680 ice ages,

00:19:10.880 countless other

00:19:11.660 cataclysmic events,

00:19:13.320 but you think

00:19:14.140 a couple hundred years

00:19:15.260 of industrialized society

00:19:16.620 will turn it

00:19:17.220 into a lifeless husk?

00:19:19.800 Do you have any idea

00:19:21.620 how resilient

00:19:23.240 the Earth is?

00:19:24.980 Do you have any idea

00:19:26.140 what it would take

00:19:27.440 to make the Earth

00:19:29.120 a lifeless husk?

00:19:31.520 It's going to take

00:19:32.340 a lot more

00:19:32.880 than a smokestack

00:19:33.940 on a factory,

00:19:35.000 I can tell you that.

00:19:36.920 I mean,

00:19:37.280 the asteroid

00:19:37.820 that wiped out

00:19:38.500 the dinosaurs

00:19:39.340 didn't even make

00:19:40.580 the Earth

00:19:41.180 a lifeless husk.

00:19:42.100 It made the Earth

00:19:42.960 inhospitable

00:19:43.960 to many forms of life

00:19:46.200 for a while,

00:19:47.220 but lifeless husk

00:19:49.580 means the Earth

00:19:50.400 is dead.

00:19:50.820 That's what a husk is.

00:19:51.740 It's a corpse.

00:19:52.780 It's just,

00:19:53.280 it's dead.

00:19:53.820 It's done.

00:19:55.380 What he's claiming

00:19:56.380 is that the Earth

00:19:57.200 is going to die

00:19:58.140 and be totally destroyed. 0.87

00:20:00.700 You know,

00:20:01.340 destroying the planet,

00:20:02.400 right?

00:20:02.540 That's what we hear

00:20:03.120 from environmentalists.

00:20:04.280 We're destroying

00:20:05.240 the planet.

00:20:07.500 We could not

00:20:08.520 destroy the planet

00:20:09.640 if we tried.

00:20:12.240 The sun

00:20:13.180 can destroy the planet.

00:20:15.520 The sun could burp

00:20:16.560 tomorrow

00:20:17.060 and we would all 0.99

00:20:17.900 be incinerated. 0.87

00:20:18.560 That's how powerful 0.97

00:20:19.540 the sun is.

00:20:20.440 A big enough asteroid

00:20:21.560 could destroy the planet.

00:20:23.160 A collision with another planet

00:20:24.740 could destroy our planet.

00:20:27.740 It takes a cosmic scale event

00:20:30.560 to destroy a planet.

00:20:34.260 That is not something

00:20:35.620 we could do.

00:20:38.840 As I said,

00:20:39.760 even if we tried,

00:20:41.100 we could not do that.

00:20:42.160 And we're not going

00:20:44.980 to do that.

00:20:46.040 Which, again,

00:20:47.040 does not mean

00:20:48.220 that we should just

00:20:49.760 do what we want

00:20:50.740 and, you know,

00:20:52.800 ruin,

00:20:54.620 cut down all the trees

00:20:55.740 that we want

00:20:56.320 and throw trash everywhere.

00:20:59.280 And all that.

00:21:00.220 No one is saying that.

00:21:01.520 But it's possible

00:21:02.720 to advocate

00:21:03.500 for conservation

00:21:04.620 and responsibility

00:21:07.320 and recycling

00:21:08.560 and not being wasteful

00:21:11.060 and all that.

00:21:11.680 It's possible

00:21:12.320 to advocate

00:21:12.900 for those things,

00:21:14.040 for those worthy,

00:21:15.880 worthwhile things

00:21:16.960 without being

00:21:19.180 a chicken little

00:21:19.900 running around

00:21:21.140 screaming that 0.82

00:21:21.760 the sky is falling.

00:21:22.580 It's possible to do.

00:21:24.220 And so,

00:21:25.060 that's what I,

00:21:25.780 that's what I would suggest.

00:21:28.000 All right.

00:21:28.780 A basketball player,

00:21:32.240 a,

00:21:32.900 well,

00:21:33.140 I say,

00:21:33.400 a basketball play-by-play

00:21:34.640 announcer,

00:21:35.040 I should say,

00:21:35.920 for the University of Iowa.

00:21:37.640 Gary Dolphin is his name.

00:21:39.320 Has been suspended

00:21:40.500 for the rest of the season

00:21:42.580 and possibly

00:21:43.300 it could be done forever.

00:21:45.660 It could be an indefinite

00:21:47.060 kind of suspension

00:21:47.820 because of a comment

00:21:49.460 that he made

00:21:50.020 at the end of an

00:21:50.720 Iowa versus Maryland game

00:21:51.900 over the weekend.

00:21:52.800 And this allegedly

00:21:54.680 was a racist comment

00:21:56.180 that this guy made,

00:21:58.480 Gary Dolphin.

00:22:00.500 And I'll tell you

00:22:01.240 what the comment was.

00:22:01.860 He was talking,

00:22:02.460 it was during

00:22:02.800 the post-game show.

00:22:05.040 I'm analyzing the game

00:22:06.140 and he was talking

00:22:06.940 about Maryland forward

00:22:08.000 Bruno Fernando

00:22:08.940 and Dolphin

00:22:09.920 in an effort

00:22:12.260 to be complimentary.

00:22:14.160 Dolphin said,

00:22:15.580 12 threes

00:22:16.720 on 22 made baskets.

00:22:17.980 That's some pretty good

00:22:18.600 long range shooting.

00:22:19.660 And then Fernando

00:22:20.580 was King Kong

00:22:21.480 at the end of the game.

00:22:23.820 So,

00:22:24.420 Fernando was King Kong

00:22:25.560 at the end of the game.

00:22:27.760 And now maybe

00:22:28.680 his career is over

00:22:29.560 because of that.

00:22:30.200 because you could

00:22:33.200 interpret that

00:22:34.280 as a racist comment

00:22:36.120 if you wanted to.

00:22:37.700 And the key part

00:22:38.680 of that being

00:22:39.160 if you wanted to.

00:22:42.100 If you were intent

00:22:43.520 on seeing that

00:22:44.600 as racist,

00:22:45.360 then you could

00:22:46.000 certainly see it

00:22:46.560 as racist.

00:22:48.820 Because,

00:22:49.500 but if instead

00:22:52.840 you decided

00:22:54.120 that you wanted

00:22:54.680 to cut the guy

00:22:55.460 even a little bit

00:22:56.920 of slack

00:22:57.440 and have

00:22:58.640 even a little bit

00:22:59.820 of charity

00:23:00.360 just the smallest

00:23:01.320 amount of charity

00:23:02.440 in the way

00:23:03.560 that you interpret

00:23:04.140 that comment 0.92

00:23:04.640 you will instead

00:23:05.620 see that this is

00:23:06.480 meant to be

00:23:07.000 a compliment

00:23:07.780 and it of course

00:23:09.200 was not supposed

00:23:09.820 to be racist.

00:23:10.820 He was not referring

00:23:11.560 to the guy's race

00:23:12.660 obviously

00:23:13.320 but he was just

00:23:14.420 saying that the player

00:23:15.380 was tough,

00:23:16.140 unstoppable,

00:23:17.360 strong,

00:23:18.380 dominant.

00:23:20.540 It's like saying

00:23:21.600 that somebody

00:23:22.380 was a monster

00:23:23.260 on the court. 0.94

00:23:24.700 Is that racist?

00:23:26.920 Yes,

00:23:28.500 if you go around

00:23:29.120 saying people

00:23:30.500 of this race 1.00

00:23:31.140 are monsters, 1.00

00:23:32.220 well that's racist. 0.76

00:23:33.980 But if somebody

00:23:34.920 is playing a game

00:23:35.880 and you say

00:23:36.280 well that guy 0.82

00:23:36.680 was a monster 0.96

00:23:37.540 out there,

00:23:38.360 that's not racist.

00:23:40.480 Totally different

00:23:41.280 context.

00:23:42.800 Or if it's like

00:23:43.680 comparing them

00:23:44.220 to the Hulk

00:23:44.820 or Superman

00:23:45.440 or any other

00:23:47.080 mythical creature,

00:23:48.180 that's the point.

00:23:50.640 And this is

00:23:51.780 what just

00:23:52.420 infuriates me

00:23:54.340 to no end. 0.65

00:23:54.940 is with this

00:23:56.980 kind of thing.

00:23:59.160 We all know,

00:24:02.180 you know,

00:24:02.420 if you were

00:24:02.740 watching the

00:24:03.400 post-game show

00:24:04.240 and you saw

00:24:04.860 the full clip

00:24:05.520 in context,

00:24:08.160 unless you're 0.97

00:24:09.400 crazy, 0.95

00:24:11.520 when you saw

00:24:12.740 that,

00:24:13.060 you would know

00:24:14.180 exactly what he

00:24:15.180 meant.

00:24:16.100 There's just

00:24:17.000 no way

00:24:17.820 that a

00:24:18.440 halfway

00:24:18.900 intelligent

00:24:19.640 and honest

00:24:20.920 person

00:24:21.480 could listen

00:24:22.400 to that comment

00:24:23.000 and actually

00:24:23.900 think that he

00:24:24.800 meant to say

00:24:25.460 something racist.

00:24:27.060 There's just

00:24:27.780 no way.

00:24:29.460 There's just

00:24:30.160 no way

00:24:30.740 that Dolphin

00:24:31.380 decided right

00:24:32.420 then and there

00:24:32.940 to end his

00:24:33.720 career by

00:24:34.680 randomly making

00:24:35.620 a racist

00:24:36.060 comment for

00:24:36.660 no reason.

00:24:37.260 It's like,

00:24:37.680 we can pretty

00:24:38.600 much assume

00:24:39.500 with 99.99999%

00:24:42.960 certainty

00:24:43.440 that that was

00:24:44.240 not his

00:24:44.600 intention.

00:24:45.560 But yes,

00:24:46.360 you could

00:24:46.840 interpret it

00:24:47.360 that way

00:24:47.680 if you want.

00:24:48.400 If you

00:24:48.840 just were

00:24:49.680 determined

00:24:50.260 to see

00:24:51.940 the absolute

00:24:52.860 worst in

00:24:53.760 this guy

00:24:54.220 and you

00:24:55.160 wanted to

00:24:55.700 destroy his

00:24:56.280 life,

00:24:56.700 then yeah,

00:24:57.160 you could

00:24:57.380 do that.

00:24:58.900 You could

00:24:59.400 say,

00:24:59.780 yes,

00:25:00.060 you know

00:25:00.180 what,

00:25:00.340 his intention

00:25:00.900 was to

00:25:01.340 sacrifice

00:25:01.840 his whole

00:25:02.360 career,

00:25:03.140 everything he

00:25:03.640 worked for,

00:25:04.620 in order to

00:25:05.280 throw a

00:25:06.320 casual racist

00:25:07.300 jab at a 0.92

00:25:08.940 player in the

00:25:09.580 guise of a

00:25:10.020 compliment.

00:25:11.220 If you're

00:25:11.880 intent on

00:25:12.340 destroying this 0.98

00:25:12.880 man, 0.99

00:25:13.520 that's how

00:25:13.980 you'll

00:25:14.180 interpret it.

00:25:15.120 But why

00:25:16.100 would you

00:25:16.460 be intent

00:25:17.080 on destroying

00:25:18.040 him?

00:25:18.400 Dolphin

00:25:21.240 issued a

00:25:21.660 statement,

00:25:22.260 by the way,

00:25:22.720 apologizing.

00:25:23.400 This was a

00:25:23.800 statement.

00:25:24.080 He said,

00:25:24.360 during the

00:25:24.720 broadcast,

00:25:25.240 I used a

00:25:25.580 comparison when

00:25:26.580 trying to

00:25:26.940 describe a

00:25:27.420 talented Maryland

00:25:28.080 basketball player.

00:25:29.240 In no way

00:25:30.120 did I intend

00:25:30.720 to offend or

00:25:31.360 disparage the

00:25:31.920 player.

00:25:32.280 I take full

00:25:32.640 responsibility for

00:25:33.380 my inappropriate

00:25:33.960 word choice.

00:25:34.960 I offer a

00:25:35.440 sincere apology

00:25:36.280 to him and

00:25:36.780 anyone else who

00:25:37.280 was offended.

00:25:38.160 I wish the

00:25:38.520 Iowa Hawkeye

00:25:39.200 players,

00:25:39.720 coaches,

00:25:40.020 and fans all

00:25:40.540 the very best

00:25:41.100 as they head

00:25:41.480 into the final

00:25:41.940 stretch of the

00:25:42.340 season.

00:25:43.000 I will use

00:25:43.500 this as an

00:25:43.900 opportunity to

00:25:44.480 grow as a

00:25:44.940 person and

00:25:45.420 learn more about

00:25:46.180 unconscious

00:25:46.660 bias.

00:25:48.600 He's groveling

00:25:49.540 here because I

00:25:50.660 don't blame him.

00:25:52.100 He wants to

00:25:52.840 get his job

00:25:53.320 back.

00:25:57.300 As much as I

00:26:00.200 would love to

00:26:00.680 see this guy

00:26:01.260 issue a

00:26:01.740 statement and

00:26:02.220 say,

00:26:02.520 you know what, 1.00

00:26:03.100 you idiots, 1.00

00:26:04.340 you know what I 1.00

00:26:05.120 meant, you 0.99

00:26:07.080 despicable 1.00

00:26:07.960 idiots, that 1.00

00:26:08.820 you're going to 1.00

00:26:09.700 destroy me for

00:26:10.960 no reason just 0.93

00:26:12.220 because, you

00:26:13.080 know, just

00:26:13.440 for fun.

00:26:15.620 You're going to

00:26:16.320 intentionally

00:26:17.500 misconstrue what

00:26:18.560 I said and

00:26:19.440 try to destroy

00:26:20.040 everything I've

00:26:20.540 worked for my

00:26:21.000 whole career.

00:26:21.680 How dare you?

00:26:22.500 You people owe

00:26:23.080 me an apology.

00:26:23.800 Now, if it were

00:26:24.820 me, that's the

00:26:25.720 kind of statement

00:26:26.960 I would probably

00:26:27.660 issue, but,

00:26:29.540 you know, maybe

00:26:30.020 that wouldn't be

00:26:30.460 the most prudent

00:26:30.980 step.

00:26:33.740 But why isn't

00:26:34.620 that enough?

00:26:35.100 So he apologized,

00:26:36.240 he said, look,

00:26:36.740 you know, it's not

00:26:37.500 how I meant it,

00:26:38.180 if you took it

00:26:39.140 that way, I'm

00:26:39.680 sorry, I didn't

00:26:40.680 mean it that way.

00:26:41.820 So why isn't

00:26:42.520 that enough?

00:26:43.500 Why can't people

00:26:44.180 just say, okay,

00:26:44.880 all right, well,

00:26:45.500 you know, fine.

00:26:46.080 Even if somehow

00:26:47.200 you were really

00:26:48.380 offended by that

00:26:49.260 and if in some

00:26:51.360 way you really

00:26:52.380 thought that he

00:26:53.600 meant it in a

00:26:54.200 racist way, well,

00:26:55.460 why can't that

00:26:56.060 be enough?

00:26:57.500 If somebody says

00:26:58.640 something that,

00:27:00.240 you know, most

00:27:01.660 likely could be

00:27:02.340 interpreted in an

00:27:03.320 innocuous way,

00:27:04.100 but there's a

00:27:04.580 possibility that

00:27:05.660 maybe it was

00:27:06.300 racist, then why

00:27:08.180 can't you just

00:27:08.760 say, no,

00:27:09.240 hold on a second,

00:27:09.860 what did you mean

00:27:10.760 by that, what

00:27:11.220 you just said

00:27:11.600 there?

00:27:12.740 I mean, it

00:27:13.480 sounds like maybe

00:27:14.540 you could have

00:27:14.940 meant something

00:27:15.260 racist and then

00:27:16.400 let the person

00:27:17.020 say, oh, no, no,

00:27:17.640 no, no, that's

00:27:17.900 not what I meant.

00:27:18.340 That's not what

00:27:18.620 I meant.

00:27:18.780 Let me tell you

00:27:19.340 what I meant.

00:27:20.300 And once they

00:27:21.120 clarify it, just

00:27:22.380 move on with your

00:27:23.160 life.

00:27:23.500 They've told you

00:27:24.220 what they meant.

00:27:24.880 That's not what

00:27:25.560 they meant.

00:27:26.180 You interpreted

00:27:27.120 it wrong.

00:27:28.940 So what?

00:27:29.540 On some kind of

00:27:30.200 technicality, we're

00:27:31.440 going to say, well,

00:27:32.360 yeah, you didn't

00:27:32.760 mean that, but you,

00:27:33.900 I mean, you said

00:27:34.620 the words King Kong

00:27:35.640 and technically, I

00:27:36.760 mean, technical

00:27:37.360 foul, right?

00:27:38.160 You're done.

00:27:39.240 Your whole life

00:27:39.820 is over.

00:27:41.580 It's just inhumane

00:27:43.480 to treat people

00:27:45.520 this way.

00:27:45.920 I mean, I don't

00:27:46.200 know anything

00:27:46.480 about Gary

00:27:46.960 Dolphin, but,

00:27:49.140 you know, just

00:27:50.800 randomly destroying

00:27:54.980 people that, I

00:27:56.560 mean, Gary

00:27:56.960 Dolphin, he's just

00:27:58.220 an Iowa play-by-play

00:28:00.000 announcer.

00:28:00.480 It's not even

00:28:00.920 like this is some

00:28:01.640 politically

00:28:02.140 significant person.

00:28:03.740 Um, he's simply

00:28:06.660 a guy who calls

00:28:09.160 basketball games

00:28:09.920 and we're saying,

00:28:12.180 all right, yeah,

00:28:12.860 we're going to 0.55

00:28:13.260 ruin him.

00:28:15.740 This is what I,

00:28:16.840 you know, I keep

00:28:17.300 saying it over and

00:28:18.900 over and over again,

00:28:19.740 but there's a very

00:28:21.680 simple concept here

00:28:22.940 that I think a lot

00:28:23.880 of people struggle

00:28:25.480 to understand.

00:28:26.260 and that is

00:28:27.320 that you, as

00:28:31.840 the listener,

00:28:33.580 okay, you don't

00:28:35.560 get to decide.

00:28:36.720 When somebody is

00:28:37.660 speaking, as the

00:28:39.720 listener, you don't

00:28:40.700 get to decide what

00:28:42.240 they meant by what

00:28:43.320 they said.

00:28:44.820 You hear it, you

00:28:46.640 interpret it how you

00:28:47.600 interpret it, but

00:28:49.680 only they can speak

00:28:51.360 to their intentions.

00:28:52.300 You, you, um,

00:28:55.060 cannot read their

00:28:56.240 mind.

00:28:56.560 You don't have

00:28:57.000 ESP.

00:28:58.500 Okay, you don't

00:28:59.340 have psychic powers.

00:29:00.480 So, they are the

00:29:01.740 only people, the

00:29:03.720 person who says

00:29:04.680 something is the

00:29:05.660 only person on

00:29:07.140 earth who can

00:29:09.100 really speak to the

00:29:10.540 intention behind

00:29:11.500 those words.

00:29:12.820 And so, if

00:29:14.260 something is said

00:29:15.260 by a speaker that

00:29:17.700 you find offensive,

00:29:19.000 the only thing you

00:29:20.940 can do is ask

00:29:22.280 them what they

00:29:23.280 meant.

00:29:23.800 And when they

00:29:24.420 tell you what

00:29:25.340 they meant, you

00:29:26.900 have no choice as

00:29:28.480 a rational person

00:29:29.640 but just to take

00:29:30.960 that and believe it

00:29:31.960 and move on.

00:29:34.620 That's all.

00:29:38.240 And, and if they

00:29:39.700 say something that

00:29:40.840 you know could be

00:29:41.700 interpreted in an

00:29:42.500 offensive way, um,

00:29:44.660 but you also know

00:29:45.660 they didn't mean it

00:29:46.280 like that, yet you

00:29:47.660 still call for them

00:29:48.620 to be fired anyway,

00:29:49.680 then you're just a 1.00

00:29:50.340 scumbag. 1.00

00:29:51.000 You're, you're just a 1.00

00:29:51.600 horrible person. 1.00

00:29:52.980 You're a horrible 1.00

00:29:53.940 vindictive person. 1.00

00:29:57.240 Um, I mean, you're 0.99

00:29:58.460 a sociopath in that 1.00

00:29:59.560 case. 0.82

00:29:59.840 And it seems like

00:30:00.620 there are a lot of

00:30:01.220 sociopaths in 0.99

00:30:02.760 America.

00:30:03.980 All right.

00:30:04.620 Speaking of

00:30:05.140 sociopaths, uh, I

00:30:09.560 have to mention one

00:30:11.440 other thing, and I'm

00:30:12.420 loathe to give this

00:30:13.380 guy any attention, but

00:30:14.340 Bill Maher on his

00:30:16.580 show, um, launched

00:30:18.220 into a lame, absurd, 0.76

00:30:20.980 elitist attack on 0.91

00:30:22.840 red states.

00:30:23.560 And I want you to

00:30:24.140 watch this.

00:30:24.640 I'm going to give you

00:30:25.580 a clip of it.

00:30:27.280 Uh, and it's really

00:30:28.260 interesting because

00:30:29.840 you're going to feel

00:30:30.740 like you unearthed some

00:30:32.400 kind of elitist time

00:30:33.600 capsule from 1994.

00:30:35.440 So here is, um, here

00:30:37.780 is Bill Maher and his

00:30:38.720 show, uh, mocking

00:30:39.700 red staters.

00:30:40.500 The blue parts of

00:30:41.980 America are having a

00:30:43.420 big prosperity party

00:30:44.600 while that big sea of

00:30:45.820 red feels like their 0.95

00:30:47.540 invitation got lost in

00:30:48.880 the mail.

00:30:49.580 And they still use the

00:30:50.880 mail.

00:30:53.940 They turn on the TV

00:30:55.380 and all the shows take

00:30:56.920 place in a few hip cities.

00:30:58.720 There's no real

00:30:59.380 housewives of Toledo or

00:31:01.200 CSI Lubbock.

00:31:04.200 There are no red carpets

00:31:13.960 in Wyoming and no one

00:31:15.280 ever asks you, who are

00:31:16.440 you wearing?

00:31:17.820 Because the answer is

00:31:18.980 always, Target.

00:31:23.340 There are two Americas 1.00

00:31:25.420 and it seems like one is

00:31:27.460 where all the cool jobs

00:31:28.840 are, where people drive

00:31:30.500 Teslas and eat artisanal

00:31:32.480 ice cream, we have

00:31:34.440 orchestras and theater

00:31:35.860 districts and world-class

00:31:37.340 shopping.

00:31:38.340 We have chef Wolfgang

00:31:39.500 Puck.

00:31:40.280 They have chef Boyardee.

00:31:44.900 Yeah.

00:31:46.160 Our roofs have solar

00:31:47.480 panels.

00:31:48.420 Theirs have last year's

00:31:49.360 Christmas lights.

00:31:51.800 We've got legal bud.

00:31:53.860 They've got bud.

00:31:54.940 Okay, now the worst part

00:32:03.560 of that video, of course,

00:32:04.560 is the cackling audience

00:32:06.100 to all these lame jokes.

00:32:09.460 They're like, hee, hee,

00:32:10.120 hee, hee, hee. 0.77

00:32:11.040 They're just so happy

00:32:12.780 that they can pretend

00:32:15.260 to be sophisticated by

00:32:16.460 laughing at those red 1.00

00:32:18.220 state plebes, you know?

00:32:20.200 Except, ironically, if they,

00:32:23.420 the audience or Bill Maher

00:32:24.840 himself, if they actually

00:32:25.840 knew anything about food

00:32:27.660 culture or the craft beer

00:32:29.420 scene or any of the things

00:32:31.220 that he mentioned, they

00:32:32.660 would know that those

00:32:33.440 insults stopped being

00:32:34.460 relevant like 25 years ago.

00:32:36.840 I mean, chef Wolfgang Puck,

00:32:39.140 that's your example of some

00:32:40.660 kind of, you know, some

00:32:43.800 sort of really trendy, fancy

00:32:48.060 chef that we can't even

00:32:49.700 conceal.

00:32:50.280 Chef Wolfgang Puck.

00:32:51.260 You can go to Concourse E

00:32:54.480 in the Charlotte airport

00:32:55.680 right across from the

00:32:56.600 Cinnabon and get a stale

00:32:58.240 ham sandwich from a

00:32:59.440 Wolfgang Puck restaurant.

00:33:00.860 It is not, there's nothing

00:33:03.140 impressive about it

00:33:04.060 whatsoever.

00:33:05.120 Like, you go, you just

00:33:06.420 walk through an airport,

00:33:07.260 you grab a ham sandwich

00:33:08.040 from Wolfgang Puck and get

00:33:09.320 a, you know, bottle of

00:33:10.160 water from the convenience

00:33:10.900 store.

00:33:11.400 It's like, that's, and

00:33:12.860 that's who you choose?

00:33:13.740 Um, it's, uh, and actually

00:33:18.180 some of the best food

00:33:19.460 states in America are red

00:33:21.400 states, Texas, Louisiana,

00:33:23.560 Tennessee, Wisconsin, and

00:33:25.960 beer.

00:33:26.540 I mean, he said, well, you

00:33:27.280 know, red states, all they

00:33:28.100 do is drink Budweiser.

00:33:29.680 Um, North Carolina, Missouri,

00:33:32.580 Texas, Indiana, Montana.

00:33:34.780 These are all great, great,

00:33:36.920 uh, great states for beer.

00:33:38.200 In fact, the last time I

00:33:40.560 was at a bar that only had

00:33:43.240 Budweiser and Miller on

00:33:44.700 tap was in Pennsylvania.

00:33:46.540 And that is not a red 0.84

00:33:48.080 state and target.

00:33:50.280 I mean, you think target is

00:33:52.080 a red state thing.

00:33:53.260 There are plenty of

00:33:54.240 targets and red states, but

00:33:55.440 I live on the East coast.

00:33:56.680 I live in blue territory and

00:33:58.380 there's a target every 14

00:33:59.520 blocks.

00:34:00.640 Okay.

00:34:01.140 Target, if anything, it's

00:34:02.240 more of a blue state thing.

00:34:03.300 So, um, Mar is a snob who's 1.00

00:34:07.060 been cryogenically

00:34:07.960 frozen in time since the

00:34:09.400 early nineties.

00:34:10.560 And now he's coming with,

00:34:11.920 um, you know, Budweiser and

00:34:14.860 Wolfgang Puck references.

00:34:16.220 It's really embarrassing.

00:34:17.360 Actually.

00:34:17.840 I'm actually embarrassed.

00:34:18.920 I almost feel bad for him.

00:34:21.460 Um, because that was such a

00:34:23.720 lame, just such a lame bit.

00:34:26.620 I mean, anytime you see a 0.65

00:34:27.620 comedian dying on stage, you

00:34:29.520 can't help, but feel for them

00:34:30.860 a little bit because it's so

00:34:32.080 humiliating, but I will say

00:34:34.440 this, uh, to Bill Maher that

00:34:37.440 you should.

00:34:37.880 And I say this as, as

00:34:38.900 someone who, uh, you know,

00:34:39.900 as a conservative, you should

00:34:41.220 definitely keep that up.

00:34:42.480 I would even recommend doing a

00:34:45.720 segment like that every single

00:34:47.480 week on your show, uh, until

00:34:49.260 2020, because if you want to

00:34:52.500 ensure that Donald Trump gets

00:34:54.340 reelected, then, then keep on,

00:34:56.460 keep, keep up with that.

00:34:57.980 Keep heaping scorn and disdain on,

00:35:03.020 um, the vast majority of the

00:35:05.800 country geographically, keep on

00:35:08.260 doing that because yeah, that's

00:35:11.700 how you're going to make sure that

00:35:14.320 Donald Trump gets, gets reelected.

00:35:17.380 This is, this, it's not a good

00:35:21.780 strategy for the left to alienate a

00:35:26.620 majority of the country and to make 0.77

00:35:29.240 everyone who doesn't live in a, in a 0.51

00:35:30.980 city feel like they're, or to try to

00:35:32.660 make them feel like a bunch of, like 1.00

00:35:34.640 a bunch of stupid bumpkins. 1.00

00:35:38.520 All you're going to accomplish is 1.00

00:35:40.860 making sure that your ideas and your

00:35:43.000 politicians, uh, are, are, you know,

00:35:46.020 never see power again.

00:35:51.140 And by the way, I don't, you know, I

00:35:52.880 just, I think this whole back and

00:35:54.320 forth about, oh, the cities versus

00:35:57.880 small towns and where is real

00:36:00.740 America, you know, real America's in 0.86

00:36:02.620 the cities or real America's in the,

00:36:04.300 in, in the Midwest.

00:36:05.420 Yeah. 1.00

00:36:05.680 I think the whole thing is stupid on 1.00

00:36:07.080 both sides personally. 1.00

00:36:08.220 I mean, real America is everywhere in

00:36:10.620 America.

00:36:11.560 Uh, America is a diverse place.

00:36:13.420 And I think it's, I've, I've spent

00:36:16.580 plenty of time in cities.

00:36:17.660 I spent, spent, spent plenty of time

00:36:19.520 in, in small towns and everything.

00:36:22.160 You know, personally, I'm not a big

00:36:23.820 fan of the cities.

00:36:24.500 I prefer the small town.

00:36:25.580 I prefer having space and trees and

00:36:27.400 things like that.

00:36:28.380 A little bit of wildlife.

00:36:29.320 You know, I, I, I prefer that. 0.98

00:36:31.560 But, um, I also think it's dumb. 0.96

00:36:34.040 And sometimes you hear this from 0.94

00:36:35.280 people in the, you know, small people

00:36:36.800 in the small towns will, will act like

00:36:38.940 everybody in the city.

00:36:40.020 They're all a bunch of elitists.

00:36:41.200 That's not real America. 0.68

00:36:42.340 No, that's not true either.

00:36:44.160 Uh, you still, the whole thing is 1.00

00:36:45.500 stupid. 1.00

00:36:45.920 It doesn't really matter where you 1.00

00:36:47.480 live.

00:36:47.980 You, no matter where you live, you can

00:36:49.540 be a real American and, and, and,

00:36:51.580 you know, and, and a patriot.

00:36:54.300 Um, so indulging on that on either 0.98

00:36:57.040 side is just, is foolish, I think. 0.93

00:36:59.960 All right. 0.99

00:37:01.160 Let's get to a few of your emails.

00:37:02.880 MattWallShow at gmail.com.

00:37:04.520 MattWallShow at gmail.com.

00:37:06.380 Uh, if you want to email with your

00:37:07.840 questions, concerns, comments, hate mail.

00:37:10.320 This is from Michael.

00:37:11.620 He says, hi, Matt, I'm a long time

00:37:13.500 listener.

00:37:14.980 Always enjoy your insights.

00:37:16.180 On today's show, you talked about how

00:37:18.140 you enjoy smoking cigars.

00:37:20.280 I have many friends who also enjoy

00:37:22.200 cigars.

00:37:22.640 However, as a faithful Catholic, I've

00:37:24.100 always believed that smoking cigars, or

00:37:26.440 cigarettes for that matter, is akin to

00:37:27.900 desecrating the temple of the Holy

00:37:28.980 Spirit.

00:37:29.840 As smoking is very unhealthy, especially

00:37:31.460 cigars, I'd love to hear you take on

00:37:32.920 this.

00:37:33.100 God bless.

00:37:34.060 Uh, hi, Michael.

00:37:34.980 Well, I think that's a, uh, a perfectly

00:37:37.860 valid perspective.

00:37:38.820 And if you decide to avoid alcohol or,

00:37:41.180 uh, you know, tobacco, uh, I, that's,

00:37:44.640 that's great.

00:37:45.300 You know, um, it's fine with me.

00:37:49.340 I don't personally consider it to be a

00:37:52.220 desecration of the temple, um, within

00:37:54.440 moderation.

00:37:54.940 I mean, of course, it's possible to

00:37:56.540 abuse any substance.

00:37:59.740 Now, addiction to a substance is never

00:38:03.120 good.

00:38:03.800 So somebody who smokes three packs of

00:38:05.580 cigarettes a day, yeah, that's something

00:38:07.160 that they need to obviously try to stop

00:38:08.760 because it's killing them.

00:38:10.780 But tobacco, even nicotine, it's not like

00:38:13.460 heroin.

00:38:13.900 It's not like you do it one time and

00:38:15.840 you're an addict.

00:38:17.040 Um, I've been smoking cigars casually for 0.99

00:38:19.640 a long time.

00:38:20.500 I'm not addicted.

00:38:21.180 I can go five months and not smoke one,

00:38:22.940 especially in the winter.

00:38:23.600 I tend not to cause it's cold out.

00:38:25.080 I don't feel like sitting out there

00:38:25.900 takes a while to smoke a cigar.

00:38:27.360 So, you know, it's just a casual thing

00:38:28.700 for me.

00:38:29.720 Um, is it a desecration of the temple to

00:38:32.980 smoke casually?

00:38:33.640 No, I don't, you know, I don't see how

00:38:35.060 that's any more of a desecration than

00:38:36.640 someone who has a sweet tooth or someone

00:38:39.100 who is, um, you know, a little bit too

00:38:40.800 sedentary or somebody who eats too much

00:38:42.800 red meat or something.

00:38:44.600 If it's possible to eat too much red meat,

00:38:46.460 which I don't think it is.

00:38:47.780 Um, although I'm not a doctor.

00:38:50.000 So I think we're allowed to enjoy life.

00:38:52.020 And, uh, and I do think that, look,

00:38:55.000 tobacco was not invented by the devil.

00:38:57.700 Um, that was God's doing.

00:39:00.160 And I don't think the first people who

00:39:02.000 figured out how to brew beer were

00:39:04.180 possessed by Satan.

00:39:05.020 Uh, no, they were using hops and other

00:39:08.120 things that God gave us.

00:39:10.320 Is it crazy to think that maybe God has

00:39:13.140 given us these things to enjoy them?

00:39:16.060 Maybe God isn't quite the Puritan that 0.98

00:39:18.020 we sometimes make him out to be.

00:39:20.820 Again, he did invent tobacco.

00:39:22.640 After all, he did make grapes that can

00:39:24.640 be turned into wine.

00:39:26.180 Uh, so aside from the fact that Jesus

00:39:28.040 is drinking wine in the, by in, in, in

00:39:29.880 the gospels all the time, God also

00:39:31.960 invented the grape, which is this very

00:39:33.780 complex fruit that it just so happens,

00:39:37.340 uh, you can turn into this delicious,

00:39:40.760 uh, beverage.

00:39:42.020 Now, I know that this logic only goes so

00:39:45.360 far, uh, psychedelic mushroom, mushrooms

00:39:48.120 exist in nature too, right?

00:39:49.780 Does that make it okay to take shrooms?

00:39:51.880 Uh, poison frogs exist in nature, but

00:39:54.500 does that make, does that mean we should

00:39:55.800 go around licking them for a buzz?

00:39:57.780 Opium exists in nature.

00:39:59.240 Does that make it okay to shoot up

00:40:00.900 heroin?

00:40:02.140 I think the difference here is

00:40:03.660 moderation.

00:40:05.200 Um, it's not possible to do heroin in

00:40:08.960 moderation.

00:40:09.440 There's no such thing as a casual, social

00:40:11.840 heroin user.

00:40:13.260 One time could kill you, uh, and it will

00:40:15.920 certainly hook you, and you can't do

00:40:18.700 heroin without getting high.

00:40:20.760 Um, so that's why, obviously, heroin is

00:40:24.520 just bad.

00:40:27.840 Alcohol isn't like that.

00:40:29.640 You will not become an alcoholic from a

00:40:31.900 glass of beer.

00:40:32.860 A glass of beer won't kill you.

00:40:34.360 It won't make you drunk.

00:40:35.740 It's perfectly possible to enjoy it within

00:40:38.220 reason and in a totally healthy way.

00:40:40.120 I know there are plenty of people who

00:40:41.140 struggle with that, and if they do, then

00:40:42.620 they got to stay away from it.

00:40:43.740 But there are also many millions of

00:40:45.940 people, probably billions throughout

00:40:47.240 history, who have managed to drink it

00:40:49.700 casually, socially, not have a problem.

00:40:51.760 So why shouldn't they?

00:40:53.720 Um, tobacco also, not going to kill you

00:40:56.780 with one cigar.

00:40:57.580 It won't make you high.

00:40:58.480 It won't hook you.

00:40:59.940 Uh, you know, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not

00:41:02.020 recommending it like, hey, hey, kids, go out

00:41:04.240 and have tobacco.

00:41:04.760 That's not what I'm saying.

00:41:05.340 But moderation is perfectly possible.

00:41:08.260 So that's where I stand.

00:41:09.800 If God gave us something that can be

00:41:11.840 enjoyed in moderation without losing our

00:41:14.280 senses, without possibly killing us from

00:41:16.380 one dose, um, and that thing is enjoyable,

00:41:20.380 relaxing, um, helping maybe to, uh, to

00:41:25.220 facilitate social interaction or whatever,

00:41:27.300 then why not?

00:41:27.900 I mean, isn't that a pretty good indication

00:41:30.620 that that's why God put it there to begin

00:41:32.060 with if it falls into that category?

00:41:34.700 I know there are people who say, well, you

00:41:36.000 know, you shouldn't need alcohol to relax

00:41:37.460 you or you shouldn't need to, you know,

00:41:39.280 have a, have some booze in order to have 0.80

00:41:41.380 a good time at a wedding or something like

00:41:42.860 that.

00:41:43.520 Well, I mean, yeah, you shouldn't need it.

00:41:45.280 It's not a, it's not a need per se, but

00:41:47.120 it does help.

00:41:47.880 And so what?

00:41:49.120 What's wrong with being relaxed by a

00:41:51.480 substance?

00:41:51.920 Who, who said that there's something wrong

00:41:53.320 with that?

00:41:54.880 Is it wrong to take Tylenol when you have a

00:41:56.820 headache?

00:41:57.200 I mean, where do you draw the line and

00:41:59.060 why?

00:41:59.400 It just seems like a really arbitrary line

00:42:01.460 to draw.

00:42:01.920 I can say that some of the most edifying

00:42:05.620 and enjoyable conversations that I've

00:42:08.240 had, especially with, with other men is

00:42:11.500 when we're all sitting around having a

00:42:12.700 cigar and drinking some whiskey.

00:42:14.840 And that, and I find that to be, especially

00:42:18.040 if it's a, you know, during the summer,

00:42:19.800 you're sitting around outside, you got a

00:42:20.980 fire pit going, you got cigars, you got,

00:42:23.440 you know, bourbon or whatever.

00:42:25.580 And, you know, you just have really

00:42:26.840 interesting edifying conversations, just

00:42:28.760 an enjoyable time.

00:42:29.440 No one's getting drunk.

00:42:30.600 It's just, you're sitting there having a

00:42:31.780 good time.

00:42:32.900 Why not?

00:42:34.540 All right.

00:42:35.440 This is from Ben.

00:42:36.880 He says, hello.

00:42:37.900 Why do you want to uphold the sentiment

00:42:39.920 that you're innocent until proven guilty,

00:42:42.400 but are selective about who that applies

00:42:44.960 to?

00:42:45.520 Even if you're proven to be innocent,

00:42:47.240 why does Michael Jackson get excluded

00:42:49.060 from that principle?

00:42:50.360 Especially when all the facts stand

00:42:51.860 behind him, that his accusers are lying

00:42:54.300 and accusing specifically for money.

00:42:56.680 All right.

00:42:58.040 Let me explain this one because I've

00:42:59.280 been getting emails like this from,

00:43:01.200 from the same small group of people

00:43:02.640 for the last like three weeks.

00:43:05.600 And that's because like a month ago

00:43:07.860 on Twitter, I briefly mentioned the fact

00:43:10.040 that Michael Jackson was a creepy 0.98

00:43:11.960 pervert. 0.97

00:43:12.880 And I mentioned this in reaction to,

00:43:15.220 to news about the Michael Jackson

00:43:16.820 documentary, um, documenting all of

00:43:19.580 his creepy perviness, which debuted, uh,

00:43:22.040 on the film festival circuit.

00:43:23.280 And I think we'll be airing on HBO.

00:43:24.760 I believe this week, although his

00:43:25.980 family has been suing to try to stop

00:43:27.420 the documentary from, from, from being

00:43:29.400 aired, but I think unsuccessfully.

00:43:31.440 So anyway, ever since then, after a

00:43:33.300 couple of tweets about it, I've had

00:43:35.420 MJ's cultish fanatical followers

00:43:37.740 harassing me.

00:43:39.700 And, and so let me just say, Ben,

00:43:42.920 first of all, with all due respect,

00:43:45.340 you do realize how weird it is, right?

00:43:50.380 To send someone multiple emails

00:43:52.420 defending the honor of a dead

00:43:53.980 celebrity who accused multiple, who

00:43:55.560 was accused multiple times of

00:43:56.960 pedophilia.

00:43:57.620 And the only reason you like him is

00:43:59.380 because he was a good dancer.

00:44:00.680 I mean, you realize that that's weird

00:44:03.720 to spend your time that way.

00:44:06.660 It's just, it's weird, man.

00:44:08.220 It is to be completely obsessed with

00:44:12.100 some dead celebrity because he was a

00:44:14.100 good dancer.

00:44:15.040 And for that reason, you assume that

00:44:16.420 there's no way he could have done

00:44:17.540 these things.

00:44:19.160 Here's the fact of the matter.

00:44:20.460 You take these accusations, everything

00:44:22.100 about Michael Jackson, and you apply

00:44:24.900 that to someone who can't sing and

00:44:26.300 dance, you, Ben, would not be

00:44:28.160 defending him.

00:44:28.740 And you know it.

00:44:29.660 If this was just some random guy you

00:44:31.340 heard about, all of these things

00:44:33.200 about him, you would not be rushing

00:44:35.820 to, to, to defend his honor.

00:44:37.620 You're only doing that because he's a

00:44:38.900 good singer and a good dancer.

00:44:40.980 That is weird.

00:44:42.420 It just is, Ben.

00:44:44.600 Here's what I'll say about Michael

00:44:45.700 Jackson, and I do plan to watch the

00:44:47.200 documentary, which is damning from

00:44:49.220 what I've heard.

00:44:50.740 But Jackson was not proven innocent.

00:44:52.980 The fact that he paid off his accusers

00:44:54.660 to silence them does not prove his

00:44:56.120 innocence.

00:44:56.500 If anything, it indicates the

00:44:57.860 opposite.

00:44:59.180 And you know what?

00:44:59.920 I think the accusations, especially how

00:45:01.720 consistent they were between the

00:45:03.240 multiple accusers, I think they were

00:45:04.960 very credible, very believable.

00:45:06.480 But I don't even need to get into

00:45:07.900 that, Ben.

00:45:08.420 Jackson admitted sharing his bed with

00:45:13.320 little boys.

00:45:14.700 Okay?

00:45:15.120 He invited little strange boys, not

00:45:17.260 even related to him, over to his

00:45:20.620 house for sleepovers, and he shared his

00:45:23.120 bed with them.

00:45:24.820 That's all I need to know.

00:45:26.140 I don't need to know anything else.

00:45:27.440 That's it.

00:45:28.420 I don't need any more information.

00:45:30.080 There is a 0.0% chance that a man who

00:45:34.320 invites a young boy to his house to

00:45:35.880 sleep in his bed is not a pedophile.

00:45:38.180 There is a 0.0% chance.

00:45:40.320 I will, in every single case, if you

00:45:42.300 know of any men in your neighborhood

00:45:43.500 that invite little boys to his house,

00:45:45.600 you know, over to sleep in bed, I

00:45:48.220 guarantee you that person is a 0.99

00:45:50.160 pedophile. 0.98

00:45:51.340 100%. 0.84

00:45:51.780 Call the police.

00:45:52.760 Okay, Ben?

00:45:54.560 There is no, and then it just, so

00:45:56.560 it just so happens, also, coincidentally,

00:45:59.860 that this guy who admits to inviting

00:46:03.280 little boys over to his house for

00:46:04.580 sleepover parties, it just so happens

00:46:07.440 that he's also multiply accused of 0.55

00:46:09.040 being a pedophile. 0.87

00:46:10.640 You think that's a coincidence? 1.00

00:46:12.800 Are you insane, Ben? 1.00

00:46:14.620 Are you crazy? 1.00

00:46:17.160 Just because you like the way he 0.99

00:46:18.620 dances, you're going to pretend that

00:46:20.280 you don't see the connection?

00:46:22.560 A guy invites little boys over, sleeps 0.87

00:46:24.120 in his bed.

00:46:25.440 Oh, and what do you know? 0.98

00:46:26.760 He's accused of being a pedophile.

00:46:27.960 You say, well, no, there's no way.

00:46:28.880 No way.

00:46:29.400 No way.

00:46:29.980 Not a guy who can dance like that.

00:46:31.580 No way.

00:46:34.440 And don't give me, I know Michael

00:46:36.100 Jackson's defenders, they'll say, well,

00:46:37.720 no, he was just a child at heart.

00:46:39.120 He was so sweet and innocent.

00:46:40.500 He says, look at him.

00:46:41.240 He's such a sweet and innocent guy,

00:46:42.440 and that's why he's a child.

00:46:43.180 I hope you don't have kids with an attitude

00:46:49.360 like that.

00:46:51.400 I mean, would you let your child,

00:46:54.240 would you let your child go sleep

00:46:57.560 in a grown man's bed

00:46:59.440 on the basis that the man is just a child

00:47:03.680 at heart and he's so innocent?

00:47:06.000 Michael Jackson had turned his house

00:47:08.100 into a, you know, Neverland

00:47:10.220 with a, you know, carnival rides

00:47:14.340 and everything.

00:47:15.420 You think it was because he was innocent

00:47:17.620 at heart?

00:47:19.980 I mean, seriously.

00:47:22.700 You don't need to be a genius

00:47:24.900 to figure this out.

00:47:27.420 He had all this stuff to lure children over.

00:47:29.860 Oh, what do you know?

00:47:30.580 He's sleeping in their bed.

00:47:31.560 Oh, what do you know? 0.92

00:47:32.300 He's accused of being a pedophile. 0.98

00:47:33.660 That's because he was a pedophile. 0.98

00:47:35.680 Definitely. 0.97

00:47:36.080 I mean, there is zero doubt in my mind.

00:47:39.940 And honestly, you Michael Jackson defenders

00:47:43.720 should be absolutely ashamed of yourself.

00:47:48.000 I mean, it's so embarrassing 0.77

00:47:49.380 and humiliating for you.

00:47:51.820 And as I said, if you have kids,

00:47:54.000 I certainly hope,

00:47:58.240 if you have kids,

00:48:01.420 I hope that you're much more cautious

00:48:03.060 with them

00:48:04.440 than you appear to be

00:48:09.220 when you defend Michael Jackson.

00:48:12.100 So, that's all.

00:48:14.240 All right.

00:48:16.820 We'll leave it there.

00:48:17.740 Thanks for watching, everybody.

00:48:18.700 Thanks for listening.

00:48:20.200 Godspeed.
