The Matt Walsh Show - Ep. 391 - Everyone Is Owed A Punch

00:00:00.420 Welcome to the show, everybody. I'm just going to say this once up front to get it out of the way.

00:00:06.520 Please try not to be jealous of my Christmas sweater. Yes, it does have Spider-Man on it.

00:00:14.380 And the fact that I have a Spider-Man Christmas sweater and you don't is not my fault.

00:00:19.380 The fact that your family didn't get you one for Christmas just means that they don't love you.

00:00:23.380 That's not my thing. It's not my fault. Let's just move on from it.

00:00:26.640 I do hope you had a wonderful weekend. My weekend involved our kids coming down with a stomach bug.

00:00:33.940 And if you've never had to deal with a three-year-old puking, well, it's not an experience that I would especially recommend because they're not very directional with the...

00:00:45.360 I'm not going to get into details. All I'm going to say is that if you were selecting life experiences from a catalog, I would say definitely skip the puking toddler package.

00:00:55.340 That's just not one. It's not worth... It's not really not... There's not much to enjoy.

00:01:00.260 I could go into great depth and detail, but I won't.

00:01:04.080 Instead of starting with vomit today, I think I'll start with a story that kind of makes you want to vomit.

00:01:09.600 The media busied itself this weekend with slandering some Army and Navy students,

00:01:15.560 claiming that they were flashing a white power sign on national television.

00:01:21.320 I don't know if you saw these headlines or not. Army and Navy students flashing white power. 0.71

00:01:26.180 This has been the story of the weekend. White power signs from West Point cadets and Naval Academy midshipmen.

00:01:33.060 Supposedly, this happened during the broadcast of the Army-Navy game. Navy won 31-7, by the way.

00:01:39.220 Here's... Let me show you the footage of this dark and disturbing incident.

00:01:44.680 Parental advisory warning. Very disturbing stuff you're about to see.

00:01:48.880 But watch this.

00:01:49.900 Two teams play each other. I mean, you ask anybody that's ever had to deal with a cadet to the midship and on the football field,

00:01:55.800 and they will tell you, up four or down 40, they play their guts out every single play until the clock strikes zero.

00:02:04.180 Notre Dame, Michigan, Oklahoma, believe me, they all know, if you're going to beat Army or Navy...

00:02:09.300 So you saw a couple of kids there making the OK gesture.

00:02:13.300 The OK gesture is supposedly... This comes to us from the media, but it's supposedly now a white power sign. 0.61

00:02:20.140 It's something that the white supremacists do.

00:02:22.600 And so these... And we'll talk in a little bit about where this actually comes from,

00:02:27.440 this idea that it's white power to make that symbol.

00:02:30.140 And so these cadets were trying to... But they were trying to promote white power on TV. 0.66

00:02:34.500 That's what the media says.

00:02:35.340 Now, just off the bat, OK, before we get into anything else,

00:02:40.120 there should already be some red flags with this version of the story.

00:02:44.980 And this is what I always do with these media...

00:02:48.180 With a media hysteria, a media-led hysteria.

00:02:53.900 My first thing is, you know, putting that aside,

00:02:57.620 when you hear this story, there should be...

00:02:59.380 Like, what should your immediate reaction be?

00:03:01.920 You should be immediately skeptical.

00:03:03.280 And in this case, you should be very suspicious of the media's claims,

00:03:08.120 because, for one thing, even if there were some racist students at these schools,

00:03:13.580 why would they throw their education, careers, and reputations away forever

00:03:18.640 just for the sake of making a hand gesture on TV?

00:03:23.520 I mean, think about that.

00:03:24.740 Let's go with the media's version of the story for a moment. 1.00

00:03:27.800 These students are racist, white power sympathizers, skinheads, 0.99

00:03:32.420 Klan members, whatever. 1.00

00:03:35.460 And now they've decided to basically go on a suicide mission,

00:03:38.740 destroying their lives, in effect,

00:03:40.640 in order to make a hand gesture?

00:03:43.980 That's what we think is happening here?

00:03:47.420 And there are multiple of them doing it.

00:03:49.500 So was this some sort of coordinated thing,

00:03:52.640 where they all got together and said,

00:03:53.960 hey, let's destroy our lives by making a white power symbol? 0.98

00:03:56.580 Well, it's not like you caught them in the act.

00:03:59.480 It's not like this is secret footage that was released

00:04:02.760 of these students flashing the forbidden sign behind closed doors somewhere.

00:04:07.820 And someone got in there and had a hidden camera.

00:04:12.140 No, it's not that.

00:04:13.740 They did it themselves on TV because they knew they were on TV.

00:04:18.460 So this was a collective and purposeful act of career and educational suicide.

00:04:25.580 That's the theory.

00:04:27.660 But we don't even need to get into that because of,

00:04:30.200 we don't need to get into the theoretical analysis of this

00:04:33.920 because we know the media's claims here are BS

00:04:36.540 because we know, or most of us know,

00:04:39.080 the real reason why kids make that symbol.

00:04:43.320 And if you don't know,

00:04:45.460 then I honestly don't know what sort of childhood you,

00:04:47.940 I feel, I feel sorry for you.

00:04:49.440 If you, if you don't know,

00:04:50.960 when you see someone doing that,

00:04:52.460 if you don't immediately know what they're doing,

00:04:55.540 then I don't know what kind of childhood you lived.

00:04:57.900 I really, I feel bad for you.

00:05:00.700 Those of us who had healthy and normal childhoods

00:05:03.440 are very familiar with something called the circle game.

00:05:06.140 If you're not familiar,

00:05:07.240 then I'll let Malcolm from Malcolm in the Middle explain it to you. 1.00

00:05:13.320 Oops, jerk. 1.00

00:05:21.140 You looked. 1.00

00:05:22.720 Ow! 1.00

00:05:24.980 We're doing this new thing called the circle game.

00:05:27.160 Basically, if you can make the other guy look at your hand

00:05:29.620 when you're doing this, 0.97

00:05:31.160 below your waist, you get to hit them in the arm. 1.00

00:05:33.960 It's stupid, but hey, you get to hit people. 1.00

00:05:36.500 Barn door's open. 1.00

00:05:37.600 Huh?

00:05:40.640 Ah!

00:05:41.280 Boys.

00:05:41.680 Brief cameo there from Walter White.

00:05:44.560 I don't know what he was doing at the dinner table,

00:05:46.180 but in any case, that's the circle game.

00:05:48.960 And that's it.

00:05:49.760 You trick someone into looking at the circle

00:05:52.160 that you make with your hand. 0.99

00:05:54.060 And if they look, then you get to punch them. 0.80

00:05:56.660 Now, part of the game, as I learned it,

00:05:59.000 is that you have to do the circle,

00:06:01.560 it has to be like below the waist.

00:06:04.280 So, you know, if I do it right now,

00:06:06.680 then that doesn't count because it's not,

00:06:09.040 you know, because then it's too easy.

00:06:11.760 If you could just go right in someone's face

00:06:13.800 so that they can't look away,

00:06:15.380 then that's too easy.

00:06:17.240 So those kids, the cadets,

00:06:20.820 you know, you saw the one guy,

00:06:22.100 he had it above the waist,

00:06:22.880 so he was breaking the rules of the game.

00:06:24.480 The other guy, though, he had it below the waist,

00:06:26.540 and so that's part of the rule.

00:06:28.540 Now, when I was a kid,

00:06:30.200 we played this game religiously.

00:06:32.460 It was, everyone knew the game.

00:06:34.540 Everybody knew the rules of the game.

00:06:36.800 Everybody knew that if you saw the circle,

00:06:38.760 they get, you have to be,

00:06:39.720 you have to submit to being punched.

00:06:41.520 No running, no pleading,

00:06:42.800 no trying to get out of it,

00:06:43.600 no bargaining.

00:06:44.980 Present your arm for the punch.

00:06:47.280 And it's going to be a hard punch, too.

00:06:48.900 They're going to wind up,

00:06:50.760 and they're going to try to hurt you.

00:06:52.260 And that's just the way it goes.

00:06:54.360 I remember, I still remember

00:06:55.380 when I first learned about this game.

00:06:57.480 I was in sixth grade,

00:06:58.660 and it was a baptism by fire.

00:07:00.300 It was, I had never heard of it before,

00:07:03.140 but I get to middle school,

00:07:04.680 and that's when you first start learning

00:07:06.100 about a lot of these kinds of things.

00:07:08.440 Somebody made that symbol,

00:07:09.820 and I looked at it.

00:07:10.500 I didn't know what they were doing.

00:07:12.260 And then they explained to me very earnestly

00:07:13.920 that I had looked at the circle,

00:07:16.420 and so now I have to be punched.

00:07:17.960 And so I said,

00:07:18.800 okay, well, if those are the rules,

00:07:20.140 then fine.

00:07:20.460 And I got punched.

00:07:22.000 But I was a rookie,

00:07:23.060 so there are a lot of different tricks

00:07:24.780 that people will pull

00:07:25.700 to get you to look at the circle.

00:07:27.680 And so for the rest of that day,

00:07:29.140 I was looking at the circle

00:07:30.960 left and right,

00:07:31.600 and I left bruised and bloodied,

00:07:34.080 could barely lift my arm.

00:07:35.800 I got punched probably 50 times that day.

00:07:37.780 I wasn't the brightest kid,

00:07:38.880 as my report cards attested.

00:07:41.360 So I did come home rather injured,

00:07:45.300 but I learned,

00:07:46.280 and I never looked at the circle again.

00:07:48.140 To this day,

00:07:49.100 I didn't even look at that clip

00:07:50.100 I just played for you.

00:07:53.200 Which, by the way,

00:07:54.300 if you did look at that clip

00:07:55.640 that I played for you,

00:07:56.460 then you're owed a punch,

00:07:57.740 and that's the rule.

00:07:58.380 And that's really what's lost

00:08:00.080 in this whole thing,

00:08:01.300 that those cadets achieved

00:08:03.540 the ultimate circle game victory.

00:08:06.760 They got millions of people

00:08:08.880 to look at the circle. 0.99

00:08:11.500 And so now you all have to be punched. 0.99

00:08:14.640 You have to go out 0.94

00:08:15.500 and ask the first person you see 0.98

00:08:16.940 to punch you.

00:08:18.520 Live by the circle game code.

00:08:21.480 We, you know, this is,

00:08:22.620 we, when I was a kid,

00:08:24.960 we took it very seriously.

00:08:26.020 Honestly, I'm stunned to learn

00:08:28.480 that some, based on the reaction

00:08:29.980 to this, so many people

00:08:31.540 either didn't play that game

00:08:32.860 or are pretending

00:08:33.840 they didn't play it.

00:08:35.000 I thought it was ubiquitous.

00:08:37.820 You know, you didn't break

00:08:39.140 the circle game code

00:08:40.140 just like you didn't break

00:08:40.980 the code of shotgun

00:08:41.920 or the code of called it.

00:08:45.760 You know, when someone says

00:08:46.700 they call something,

00:08:47.460 oh, I call it,

00:08:48.600 no matter what it is.

00:08:50.040 If they called it,

00:08:50.900 then they get it.

00:08:51.400 That's it.

00:08:52.220 If somebody walks by you

00:08:53.280 in the cafeteria

00:08:54.000 and says,

00:08:54.800 I call your sandwich

00:08:55.680 and you didn't call it yourself,

00:08:58.720 if you didn't,

00:08:59.300 when you open,

00:08:59.740 when you open up your lunch,

00:09:00.660 if you didn't immediately say,

00:09:01.720 I call this, that, and that,

00:09:03.040 and somebody walks by

00:09:03.960 and says, I call it,

00:09:04.960 then you have to give them

00:09:05.880 your sandwich.

00:09:06.720 They could call the shirt

00:09:07.600 right off your back.

00:09:08.300 That's just, that's the game.

00:09:11.100 The call, the circle,

00:09:12.300 the shotgun,

00:09:13.000 those were the rules

00:09:13.600 you lived by as a kid.

00:09:16.400 At least, at least I did.

00:09:17.980 More to say about this

00:09:18.860 in a moment,

00:09:19.260 but first a word

00:09:20.140 from Rock Auto,

00:09:21.120 you know, chain stores

00:09:21.980 have different price tiers

00:09:23.340 for professional mechanics

00:09:25.160 and do-it-yourselfers.

00:09:27.980 Can't speak.

00:09:28.800 Do-it-yourselfers.

00:09:30.960 Rock Auto's prices, though,

00:09:32.640 are the same for everybody

00:09:33.600 and they are reliably low.

00:09:36.180 That part I can say,

00:09:37.260 reliably low,

00:09:37.880 because that's the important part.

00:09:38.900 RockAuto.com always offers

00:09:40.320 the lowest prices possible

00:09:42.240 rather than changing

00:09:43.760 their prices

00:09:44.740 based on what the market will bear,

00:09:46.380 basically based on

00:09:47.320 what they think

00:09:47.920 they can get out of you.

00:09:48.720 They're not going to do that.

00:09:50.140 They're going to charge you

00:09:51.100 the least they possibly can

00:09:52.840 in order to give you

00:09:53.720 a good deal

00:09:54.200 and so that you can get

00:09:54.900 what you need.

00:09:55.740 RockAuto.com

00:09:56.680 is a family business.

00:09:58.220 What I like about it,

00:09:58.920 it's an online business,

00:09:59.860 but it's also a family business

00:10:01.040 serving auto parts customers

00:10:02.300 online for 20 years.

00:10:38.560 right now,

00:10:39.480 see all the parts

00:10:40.140 available for your car or truck,

00:10:41.760 write Walsh

00:10:42.480 in their

00:10:42.900 how did you hear about us

00:10:44.180 tab

00:10:44.920 so that they know

00:10:46.140 that we sent you.

00:10:46.780 That's RockAuto.com.

00:10:49.960 You know,

00:10:50.460 there's a whole separate

00:10:51.160 and fascinating conversation

00:10:52.240 I think that could be had here

00:10:53.600 about why kids

00:10:54.660 make up all these rules

00:10:57.260 and codes

00:10:57.820 and traditions

00:10:58.320 and then follow them

00:10:59.360 so strictly

00:10:59.900 even at pain

00:11:01.460 of physical injury.

00:11:03.920 I mean,

00:11:04.420 and you consider

00:11:05.780 how kids

00:11:06.960 have a difficult time

00:11:08.040 following other rules

00:11:09.120 and codes.

00:11:09.460 So when I was a kid,

00:11:10.620 something as simple as

00:11:11.820 like my parents' instruction,

00:11:14.220 pick up your plate

00:11:15.420 from the table

00:11:15.960 and bring it to the kitchen 0.83

00:11:16.720 when you're done.

00:11:18.000 That was very difficult

00:11:19.220 for me to do

00:11:19.920 and to remember to do

00:11:21.000 and it felt very onerous.

00:11:23.580 So I had trouble with that

00:11:24.900 but the rule of

00:11:26.780 if you look at a circle, 0.94

00:11:28.120 I get to beat the hell out of you. 0.99

00:11:29.620 Now, 0.99

00:11:30.120 that I followed.

00:11:31.680 So,

00:11:32.200 it's interesting

00:11:33.880 that kids do that

00:11:34.600 but that's a discussion

00:11:35.280 for a different day.

00:11:36.500 The real issue here

00:11:37.840 is that

00:11:38.460 the media is trying

00:11:39.840 to pull a Covington

00:11:40.620 on these kids

00:11:41.300 and slandering them

00:11:42.840 as racist

00:11:43.480 even though

00:11:44.940 there's no proof

00:11:45.800 that they're racist

00:11:46.540 and the one thing

00:11:48.600 they call proof

00:11:49.500 of racism

00:11:50.100 can easily be explained

00:11:51.600 in an innocuous way.

00:11:53.680 And to anyone who says,

00:11:55.160 well,

00:11:55.560 maybe they didn't mean it

00:11:56.940 as a white power thing

00:11:57.860 but they had to know

00:11:58.740 that it is a white power thing

00:12:00.220 and so

00:12:01.220 they shouldn't have done it

00:12:02.120 for that reason

00:12:02.720 so at a minimum

00:12:04.000 it's very bad judgment

00:12:05.100 and so on.

00:12:05.900 No,

00:12:06.060 that's actually not the case

00:12:07.500 because they probably

00:12:09.400 have no idea

00:12:10.320 that it's supposedly

00:12:11.100 a white power symbol.

00:12:12.900 I would have no idea

00:12:14.240 that it's supposedly

00:12:15.380 a white power symbol.

00:12:16.320 The only reason

00:12:17.020 that I know

00:12:17.920 that the OK sign

00:12:19.560 is supposedly associated

00:12:21.160 with white power,

00:12:22.300 white supremacism 0.83

00:12:23.100 is because I'm on Twitter

00:12:24.700 and so I see the media

00:12:26.360 talking about it

00:12:27.080 on Twitter.

00:12:28.140 The only place

00:12:29.180 I've ever seen

00:12:30.520 the OK sign

00:12:32.300 characterized

00:12:32.940 as white power,

00:12:35.420 the only place

00:12:35.780 I've ever seen it

00:12:36.340 mentioned

00:12:36.980 or heard of it

00:12:38.980 in that context

00:12:39.960 is on Twitter.

00:12:41.820 Nowhere else,

00:12:42.540 not in the real world,

00:12:43.360 not even on other websites.

00:12:45.160 It is specifically

00:12:46.500 a Twitter thing.

00:12:48.180 So the only thing

00:12:49.140 we could take from this

00:12:49.860 is that these students

00:12:50.660 probably aren't on Twitter.

00:12:53.680 And,

00:12:54.140 well,

00:12:54.360 it's not just a Twitter thing,

00:12:55.640 it's actually originally

00:12:56.520 a 4chan thing.

00:12:58.880 So this is all,

00:13:00.460 this association

00:13:01.780 that is supposedly drawn now

00:13:04.000 between the OK sign

00:13:05.920 or the circle game sign

00:13:07.360 and white supremacism

00:13:09.360 is it's a 4chan hoax.

00:13:12.380 And the crazy thing is

00:13:13.960 that we know

00:13:16.020 it's a 4chan hoax,

00:13:17.380 the media knows it,

00:13:20.560 yet they keep running

00:13:21.660 with it anyway.

00:13:23.100 People on 4chan decided

00:13:24.600 that they wanted

00:13:25.200 to trick the media

00:13:26.260 into thinking

00:13:27.520 that the OK sign

00:13:28.580 is a white power symbol.

00:13:30.200 And why did they choose

00:13:31.340 the OK sign randomly

00:13:32.660 as the thing that we're going to?

00:13:33.980 Because it's,

00:13:34.520 because it's such an innocuous

00:13:36.200 normal thing

00:13:37.640 that people do.

00:13:39.040 It is,

00:13:39.680 it's,

00:13:39.860 it's a,

00:13:40.280 it's,

00:13:40.600 you know,

00:13:40.840 this symbol has for,

00:13:42.680 has for hundreds of years

00:13:44.400 has,

00:13:44.740 has meant,

00:13:46.480 maybe the circle game

00:13:47.420 doesn't go back

00:13:48.060 hundreds of years,

00:13:48.580 maybe it does,

00:13:49.120 I don't know.

00:13:50.160 But it has for hundreds of years

00:13:51.660 meant that's OK

00:13:53.140 or,

00:13:53.640 you know,

00:13:53.840 it's been,

00:13:55.220 it's meant OK

00:13:55.920 for a very long time.

00:13:57.380 And so the people

00:13:58.260 at 4chan,

00:13:58.940 just to be trolls,

00:14:00.020 just to mess with us, 0.70

00:14:01.440 they were going to take

00:14:02.040 this innocuous thing

00:14:03.380 that people do

00:14:04.180 and turn it into

00:14:06.120 a white power symbol.

00:14:06.820 They could have done it

00:14:07.400 with thumbs up

00:14:08.000 and maybe that'll be next.

00:14:10.680 Next,

00:14:11.120 the people on 4chan

00:14:11.780 are going to trick the media

00:14:12.700 into thinking that

00:14:13.180 if you do this,

00:14:14.000 you're expressing your loyalty

00:14:16.060 to the Nazi party

00:14:17.060 or something.

00:14:18.100 But we know

00:14:19.140 that it's a 4chan hoax.

00:14:21.360 The media knows that.

00:14:23.340 Yet they,

00:14:24.040 they run with it anyway.

00:14:25.220 And if they see someone doing it,

00:14:26.500 well,

00:14:26.600 not someone,

00:14:27.080 if they see a white person

00:14:28.060 doing it on camera,

00:14:29.280 they're going to accuse

00:14:30.660 that person

00:14:31.140 of being a white supremacist.

00:14:32.820 Even though they know

00:14:34.700 that 4chan invented this.

00:14:40.140 It's,

00:14:40.700 it is 1.00

00:14:42.880 the dumb, 1.00

00:14:44.120 this thing with the, 1.00

00:14:45.160 with the,

00:14:45.540 the OK sign, 1.00

00:14:46.860 it's the dumbest moral panic 1.00

00:14:48.720 in history. 0.99

00:14:50.780 Claiming that anyone

00:14:51.680 who makes that symbol

00:14:52.600 is a Nazi. 0.81

00:14:53.380 It is,

00:14:53.720 it is,

00:14:54.080 and I,

00:14:54.840 I hesitate to say that

00:14:56.560 because there have been 0.99

00:14:57.040 a lot of dumb moral panics. 1.00

00:14:59.280 Can you think of a dumber one 1.00

00:15:00.760 off the top of your head? 1.00

00:15:02.800 That now we're hunting down

00:15:04.140 anyone who makes the OK sign

00:15:05.800 with their fingers

00:15:06.540 and calling them

00:15:09.060 suspected white supremacists?

00:15:13.060 Well, 1.00

00:15:13.500 I think to call it dumb 0.98

00:15:14.480 would be to, 0.95

00:15:15.240 um,

00:15:16.720 do the media a favor.

00:15:19.040 Uh,

00:15:19.600 it,

00:15:19.720 no,

00:15:20.120 it's not, 0.90

00:15:20.400 it's not dumb.

00:15:21.300 It's, 0.97

00:15:21.660 it's insidious.

00:15:22.720 It's evil.

00:15:24.880 I mean,

00:15:25.360 they know,

00:15:25.600 they know what they're doing.

00:15:26.480 They're going to try to destroy

00:15:28.700 these kids' lives

00:15:29.600 just,

00:15:31.700 just for the sake of it,

00:15:32.580 just for a headline,

00:15:33.700 just for politics.

00:15:37.540 Really is,

00:15:38.300 uh,

00:15:39.020 terrible.

00:15:39.740 Okay,

00:15:40.160 now let's,

00:15:41.040 um,

00:15:42.120 let's check in with

00:15:43.280 Bernie Sanders. 1.00

00:15:45.220 Speaking of dumb, 1.00

00:15:46.860 last week it was announced 0.99

00:15:48.080 that Garrett Cole,

00:15:49.220 who's a baseball star,

00:15:50.980 signed a contract

00:15:51.780 with the Yankees

00:15:52.560 worth $324 million,

00:15:54.680 which in case you didn't know

00:15:56.500 is a lot of money.

00:15:58.380 Bernie Sanders

00:15:59.000 never misses an opportunity

00:16:00.460 to shame rich people.

00:16:02.520 You know,

00:16:02.660 anytime there's a headline

00:16:03.700 of somebody making a lot of money,

00:16:05.100 you can guarantee

00:16:05.840 that Bernie Sanders

00:16:06.580 is going to rush in

00:16:07.460 and have something to say about it,

00:16:08.920 even though he's rich himself.

00:16:10.960 So Bernie Sanders

00:16:12.020 sat in one of his three houses,

00:16:13.600 I don't know which one,

00:16:14.860 and he responded to,

00:16:16.460 um,

00:16:17.600 to this news

00:16:18.520 about the $324 million,

00:16:20.200 responded to it

00:16:21.460 with a,

00:16:21.720 with a tweet,

00:16:22.260 saying,

00:16:23.160 if pitchers can make

00:16:23.940 $324 million,

00:16:25.380 we can pay

00:16:26.540 every teacher

00:16:27.240 in this country

00:16:27.880 at least $60,000.

00:16:30.340 Now,

00:16:31.440 this is a bit like saying,

00:16:34.760 if oranges are fruits,

00:16:38.180 then chihuahuas

00:16:39.420 can play checkers.

00:16:41.000 It's a non-sequitur.

00:16:42.600 It's taking

00:16:43.400 two completely separated

00:16:44.960 and unconnected things

00:16:46.140 and trying to draw

00:16:47.580 a connection

00:16:48.200 where none exists.

00:16:49.960 If it rains today,

00:16:51.540 then George Clooney's

00:16:54.120 favorite color

00:16:54.820 is red.

00:16:56.740 It's,

00:16:57.060 it's just total nonsense.

00:16:58.860 But Bernie Sanders

00:16:59.940 does this a lot

00:17:00.980 when it comes to

00:17:01.820 rich people.

00:17:03.820 He's the king

00:17:04.760 of the non-sequitur.

00:17:05.960 If rich people

00:17:06.820 can buy yachts,

00:17:08.100 then why is cereal

00:17:10.260 so expensive?

00:17:12.860 But,

00:17:13.520 I do want to focus

00:17:14.860 on this argument

00:17:15.520 from Bernie,

00:17:16.260 if you can call it

00:17:17.200 an argument,

00:17:17.840 because it's

00:17:19.620 exactly the kind 0.51

00:17:20.720 of nonsense

00:17:21.200 that, 0.57

00:17:22.540 even though it is

00:17:23.140 nonsense,

00:17:23.940 people find

00:17:25.100 very appealing.

00:17:26.820 And,

00:17:27.140 it's,

00:17:27.960 it's why he's

00:17:28.640 so popular.

00:17:29.500 Because people

00:17:30.300 hear this 1.00

00:17:30.960 stupidity 1.00

00:17:32.420 and they, 1.00

00:17:33.100 they,

00:17:33.380 they think it's

00:17:34.340 very compelling

00:17:34.960 and very convincing.

00:17:36.040 So,

00:17:36.380 for that reason,

00:17:37.040 I think it's worth

00:17:37.580 responding to.

00:17:39.820 Now,

00:17:40.380 obviously,

00:17:40.920 the salary

00:17:41.420 of a baseball player

00:17:42.320 has no connection

00:17:43.380 to the salary

00:17:44.480 of a teacher

00:17:45.580 because teachers

00:17:46.340 are paid

00:17:46.800 by the state.

00:17:48.120 They're government

00:17:48.580 employees.

00:17:49.740 Public school

00:17:50.320 teachers,

00:17:50.660 anyway.

00:17:51.860 The taxpayers

00:17:52.580 pay them.

00:17:53.800 Athletes

00:17:54.240 are not paid

00:17:55.280 by the taxpayers.

00:17:56.900 They're not

00:17:57.480 public employees.

00:17:58.700 So,

00:17:59.180 the reason that

00:17:59.600 teachers aren't

00:18:00.080 paid millions,

00:18:01.240 one of the reasons

00:18:01.940 is that we couldn't

00:18:02.720 possibly afford to.

00:18:03.780 We,

00:18:04.100 we would be

00:18:04.520 bankrupted,

00:18:05.100 or at least

00:18:05.400 more bankrupted

00:18:06.160 than we already are.

00:18:07.800 But,

00:18:08.260 here's the larger

00:18:08.780 point.

00:18:09.520 And,

00:18:09.980 that's why

00:18:10.160 these two things

00:18:10.660 are just

00:18:10.980 completely disconnected.

00:18:12.160 They have nothing

00:18:12.440 to do with each other.

00:18:14.360 But,

00:18:14.820 um,

00:18:15.580 here's the larger

00:18:16.840 point.

00:18:17.820 Bernie's whole

00:18:18.600 shtick

00:18:19.360 is to take

00:18:20.180 an example

00:18:20.800 like this,

00:18:22.300 an example

00:18:22.860 of extreme

00:18:23.480 wealth,

00:18:24.160 and make

00:18:26.300 it seem

00:18:26.780 like an

00:18:27.300 injustice.

00:18:28.760 But,

00:18:30.120 it's,

00:18:30.780 it's not.

00:18:31.760 It's really

00:18:32.360 the exact

00:18:33.180 opposite

00:18:33.800 of injustice.

00:18:36.860 I would say

00:18:37.900 that Garrett Cole

00:18:38.580 making $324 million

00:18:39.600 is,

00:18:41.780 is the opposite

00:18:42.480 of injustice.

00:18:43.520 It's the opposite

00:18:44.640 of unfairness.

00:18:46.220 And,

00:18:46.300 I'll tell you

00:18:46.600 why.

00:18:46.940 Because,

00:18:48.080 baseball players

00:18:49.080 who make

00:18:49.440 hundreds of

00:18:49.920 millions of

00:18:50.320 dollars

00:18:50.700 make that

00:18:52.320 much

00:18:52.720 because they

00:18:53.800 have a

00:18:54.120 highly

00:18:54.480 marketable

00:18:55.180 skill

00:18:55.560 and they

00:18:56.580 are the

00:18:56.920 best in

00:18:57.480 the world

00:18:58.000 at performing

00:18:58.820 that skill.

00:19:00.040 The best

00:19:00.740 in the world.

00:19:01.840 Meaning,

00:19:02.860 of all the

00:19:03.640 people who

00:19:04.100 have tried

00:19:04.440 to develop

00:19:04.940 that same

00:19:05.520 skill,

00:19:05.900 and a lot

00:19:06.400 of people

00:19:06.760 have,

00:19:08.120 these guys,

00:19:09.260 these MLB

00:19:09.800 stars,

00:19:10.600 they are at

00:19:11.060 the top

00:19:11.700 of the

00:19:12.120 top

00:19:12.580 of the

00:19:13.000 top

00:19:13.420 of the

00:19:13.800 top

00:19:14.220 of the

00:19:14.620 very

00:19:14.960 tippy,

00:19:15.600 tippy top

00:19:16.360 of all

00:19:16.900 those

00:19:17.120 people.

00:19:17.960 We're not

00:19:18.540 talking top

00:19:19.160 1% in

00:19:19.940 skill.

00:19:20.180 Now,

00:19:20.300 if you're

00:19:20.480 a top

00:19:20.860 1%,

00:19:21.660 you know,

00:19:22.200 if you're

00:19:22.380 among the

00:19:23.880 top 1%

00:19:24.600 of all

00:19:25.160 baseball players

00:19:25.840 in the

00:19:26.060 world,

00:19:26.980 you're not

00:19:27.840 going to be

00:19:28.100 in the

00:19:28.260 MLB.

00:19:28.860 You're not

00:19:29.120 going to

00:19:29.220 be good

00:19:29.440 enough.

00:19:30.200 You're

00:19:30.400 talking,

00:19:31.080 you're

00:19:31.280 certainly

00:19:31.440 not going

00:19:31.720 to be

00:19:31.940 a star

00:19:33.120 making

00:19:33.380 $324

00:19:33.920 million.

00:19:36.200 Maybe

00:19:36.560 you'll be

00:19:36.800 on a farm

00:19:37.220 team or

00:19:37.460 something like

00:19:37.760 that.

00:19:38.240 We're

00:19:38.560 talking

00:19:39.080 the top

00:19:42.380 0.0000001%

00:19:44.660 of everybody

00:19:46.180 in the world

00:19:46.880 who plays

00:19:47.780 baseball.

00:19:49.180 That's how

00:19:49.660 good they

00:19:49.980 are.

00:19:50.500 And we

00:19:51.140 have to

00:19:51.320 keep that

00:19:51.560 in mind.

00:19:52.400 That is how

00:19:52.980 good they

00:19:53.280 are.

00:19:53.720 Whenever

00:19:53.920 someone

00:19:54.180 complains

00:19:54.480 about

00:19:54.620 the

00:19:54.780 money

00:19:55.000 that

00:19:55.160 athletes

00:19:55.520 make,

00:19:56.420 you have

00:19:56.800 to remember

00:19:57.200 how insanely

00:19:58.240 good these

00:19:59.080 people are

00:19:59.700 at what

00:20:00.000 they do.

00:20:01.300 We take

00:20:01.980 it for

00:20:02.280 granted

00:20:02.620 because we

00:20:03.080 see it

00:20:03.340 on TV,

00:20:04.020 we see it

00:20:04.320 so often

00:20:04.780 that it

00:20:05.060 seems

00:20:05.200 normal,

00:20:05.800 but it's

00:20:06.160 not.

00:20:06.420 These

00:20:06.540 people are,

00:20:07.200 again,

00:20:07.680 the very

00:20:08.180 best in

00:20:08.540 the entire

00:20:08.920 world at

00:20:09.220 performing

00:20:09.520 this skill.

00:20:10.400 They are 0.96

00:20:10.620 so ridiculously

00:20:11.880 good that

00:20:13.500 it's hard

00:20:13.900 to wrap

00:20:14.300 your head

00:20:14.580 around.

00:20:16.240 Is it

00:20:16.960 an injustice

00:20:18.880 that somebody

00:20:20.240 who is the

00:20:21.000 best in

00:20:21.840 the world

00:20:22.520 at a

00:20:22.980 marketable

00:20:23.440 skill,

00:20:23.920 can become

00:20:24.400 rich doing

00:20:25.160 it?

00:20:26.180 No.

00:20:27.240 I'd say,

00:20:27.860 again,

00:20:28.060 it's the

00:20:28.400 opposite of

00:20:29.260 injustice.

00:20:30.200 That is the

00:20:31.180 epitome of

00:20:31.880 justice.

00:20:33.000 And it's not

00:20:33.820 just athletes.

00:20:35.220 Anyone who

00:20:36.460 is the best

00:20:37.380 in the world

00:20:38.080 at something,

00:20:38.660 if it's a

00:20:39.340 marketable skill,

00:20:40.360 and not all

00:20:40.900 skills are,

00:20:42.080 but if it's a

00:20:42.680 marketable skill,

00:20:44.840 I mean,

00:20:45.340 most skills are

00:20:46.180 these days

00:20:46.580 especially.

00:20:48.380 I don't know,

00:20:48.900 maybe if you're,

00:20:50.220 I mean,

00:20:50.520 remember that trend

00:20:51.880 on the internet,

00:20:52.360 which unfortunately

00:20:53.140 went away

00:20:53.560 because I was a

00:20:54.060 fan of it,

00:20:54.420 but the trend

00:20:54.880 of the bottle

00:20:55.640 flip game

00:20:56.200 that was popular

00:20:56.940 back in 2017

00:20:57.760 or whatever,

00:20:58.960 if you were the

00:20:59.460 best in the world

00:21:00.100 at the bottle

00:21:00.760 flip game where

00:21:01.300 you just flip a

00:21:01.840 bottle and it

00:21:02.260 lands back up

00:21:02.880 on the right

00:21:04.720 side,

00:21:05.380 if you're the

00:21:05.800 best in the

00:21:06.280 world at that,

00:21:07.380 probably you

00:21:08.640 couldn't find a

00:21:09.540 sustained long-term

00:21:11.100 source of income

00:21:12.820 from being the

00:21:13.780 best.

00:21:14.220 Although even

00:21:14.660 that,

00:21:15.180 you could do

00:21:15.980 some YouTube

00:21:16.400 videos,

00:21:16.880 it goes viral,

00:21:17.740 you make some

00:21:18.520 money on that,

00:21:19.460 so even that

00:21:19.980 is marketable

00:21:20.620 in some way.

00:21:22.120 But if it is a

00:21:23.140 marketable skill

00:21:23.840 and you're the

00:21:24.300 best at it,

00:21:25.280 you're going to

00:21:25.620 make money.

00:21:26.260 You're going to

00:21:26.440 be,

00:21:26.880 you know,

00:21:27.320 you're barring

00:21:28.540 some other

00:21:29.600 thing interfering,

00:21:30.680 some tragedy,

00:21:32.280 you know,

00:21:32.940 you get sabotaged

00:21:34.120 in some way in

00:21:34.980 your career by

00:21:35.620 somebody else

00:21:36.120 who's jealous.

00:21:36.680 I mean,

00:21:36.800 these kind of

00:21:37.380 things can

00:21:37.720 happen,

00:21:38.980 but you're

00:21:40.920 going to make

00:21:41.220 money.

00:21:41.400 Maybe not

00:21:41.700 $300 million,

00:21:42.960 maybe more

00:21:43.700 than $300 million.

00:21:44.420 I mean,

00:21:44.620 if you're one

00:21:45.260 of the best

00:21:45.880 in the world

00:21:46.600 at running a

00:21:47.900 business,

00:21:49.040 and that's

00:21:49.680 a skill,

00:21:50.600 and if you're

00:21:51.440 one of the

00:21:51.920 best in the

00:21:52.800 world at it,

00:21:54.460 or if you're

00:21:54.760 one of the

00:21:55.020 best innovators

00:21:56.900 in the world,

00:21:57.280 if you're one

00:21:57.540 of the best

00:21:58.040 inventors

00:22:00.840 in the world,

00:22:01.760 you'll probably

00:22:02.920 be a billionaire.

00:22:03.820 Forget about

00:22:04.140 being a

00:22:04.420 multimillionaire.

00:22:08.400 So,

00:22:08.900 you know,

00:22:09.100 that makes you

00:22:09.580 a billionaire.

00:22:10.100 If you're one

00:22:10.400 of the best

00:22:10.720 baseball players

00:22:11.460 in the world,

00:22:11.880 you'll be a

00:22:12.240 millionaire.

00:22:12.900 If you're

00:22:13.320 one of the

00:22:13.560 best car

00:22:14.540 mechanics in the

00:22:15.300 world,

00:22:15.620 one of the

00:22:16.060 very,

00:22:16.580 very best

00:22:17.300 Okay, if there's like a few dozen other people that are as good as you and everyone else is worse

00:22:23.320 At being a car mechanic

00:22:25.360 You might not be a millionaire. Maybe you will be

00:22:28.340 But you're certainly going to be very successful at what you do and you're going to make a very nice living

00:22:33.300 Um

00:22:34.740 And if you're one of the best teachers in the world again, you will make a nice living

00:22:39.660 Let's think about this. Let's say that you're a math teacher

00:22:42.800 Okay

00:22:43.780 Well, if you're the garrett cole of math teachers, what what would that be? 0.98

00:22:49.500 That means that you're one of the very best math teachers in the entire world of all the people

00:22:55.160 Who do math, you know professionally or or teach math?

00:22:59.740 Um

00:23:00.140 Of all the mathematicians in the world, you're you're one of the very very best

00:23:04.440 Which means you're both a mathematical

00:23:06.260 genius

00:23:07.940 And an educational genius

00:23:10.420 Which means you're not teaching algebra to 10th graders

00:23:15.700 Unless you want to

00:23:17.580 Now, maybe that's just what you want to do and that's a very noble

00:23:21.080 Calling and and certainly an important thing to do and if you know, maybe you are

00:23:26.260 Absolutely brilliant

00:23:28.340 As a teacher and a mathematician

00:23:30.760 And um, but it's sort of as far as you want to go is is teaching high school math at a public school

00:23:36.660 Fine great, but then that's your choice

00:23:38.800 If you're really that good though, and you want to climb the ladder then you're going to be what teaching math at princeton

00:23:45.780 Making 190 000 200 000 a year around that range

00:23:49.460 Um, or you're going to be at some other very high level elite

00:23:53.360 Cream of the crop institution

00:23:55.400 Now

00:23:58.140 This is not you know, i'm this is not an insult to to public school teachers

00:24:04.120 I'm, not saying that they're bad at what they do

00:24:05.940 I'm, just saying that in in in any of these realms whether it's teaching math or or science

00:24:12.360 Or you know, if you're the very very best if you are the garrett cole of that 1.00

00:24:17.840 You're probably not at a high school doing it

00:24:21.480 So this thing that we do, um

00:24:25.480 Where we compare the salaries of the very best athletes in the world

00:24:30.520 To the salaries of of of sort of you know, average people in other professions is it's just it's silly

00:24:37.080 It's blatant emotional manipulation

00:24:39.820 You know, there's there's absolutely nothing we can learn really about society from the fact that

00:24:45.860 A a high school math teacher

00:24:48.080 makes

00:24:49.160 60 or 70 000

00:24:50.740 While the very best one of the very best baseball players in the world makes 300 300 million

00:24:55.520 That doesn't tell us anything about society

00:24:57.620 um

00:25:00.960 Other than I think it arguably tells us something good which is that if you if you're really really really really really

00:25:08.400 Ridiculously insanely good at something you'll make a lot of money on it

00:25:13.400 Now the um

00:25:16.860 You know when you talk about this people will say things like

00:25:21.060 Well, uh, uh, you know

00:25:23.260 One thing I never understand is when someone says

00:25:26.220 Well, the athletes shouldn't be making all that money, you know, they just shouldn't make it

00:25:31.740 300 million dollars

00:25:32.780 That's that's wrong. They should okay. Well, who do you want?

00:25:36.760 the reason why

00:25:38.760 Garrett cole can make 300 million dollars

00:25:41.020 is because

00:25:42.520 um

00:25:44.000 We the public

00:25:45.480 Spend a lot of money on merchandise baseball merchandise

00:25:49.720 I don't you know, i'm not a big baseball fan myself, but a lot of people do

00:25:53.760 We spent we we watch it on tv

00:25:56.380 Again, I don't know why you would watch baseball on tv

00:25:58.860 but um

00:26:00.300 But but you know, I'd rather watch I mean, I think watching fishing on tv is more entertaining which I actually will do

00:26:06.200 but

00:26:07.860 Uh, which is a sign that i'm

00:26:09.680 Officially entering middle age, but

00:26:11.700 You buy the merch a lot of millions of people buy the merchandise. They watch it on tv

00:26:17.200 They go to the stadiums and pay for the tickets

00:26:19.060 And that's where all this money comes from

00:26:21.340 So there's billions of dollars floating around

00:26:24.780 Because of

00:26:27.220 People's interest in baseball

00:26:29.080 Now the only question is the money's there

00:26:32.200 Because we're spending it

00:26:34.300 The only question now is who should get the money

00:26:38.160 Should it all go to the owners?

00:26:40.300 When when you complain that gary cole makes 300 million 1.00

00:26:42.460 Who who do you want to keep all that?

00:26:45.180 So what the owner should keep all of it?

00:26:47.860 Or what the government you think the government should take it?

00:26:50.760 It's the why the government should just come in and why should they get it? They didn't do anything

00:26:54.300 What you think you should get it?

00:26:56.880 No garrett cole should make 300 million. I I should get that 1.00

00:27:00.640 I mean, yeah, he's dedicated his whole life to perfecting this craft. He's one of the best in the world

00:27:04.840 But no, that that should come to me though. No, that's that's mine

00:27:07.300 There's there's really it

00:27:10.540 Someone has to get that money because it's there for taking

00:27:13.860 Because we're spending it and so it makes sense for him to get a big chunk of it. I don't see the problem here

00:27:19.040 I don't again. I don't see the injustice

00:27:21.480 And the other thing that annoys me is when people when we talk about this and people say

00:27:27.320 Um

00:27:28.280 Well, it's just sports. It's so stupid people 1.00

00:27:31.620 You know you make all that money throwing a ball 1.00

00:27:34.360 How dumb how stupid 1.00

00:27:36.440 Well, first of all, even if it is dumb and stupid 1.00

00:27:39.640 That's a reflection of us because again, we are spending that money 1.00

00:27:44.180 That's how he's making it 0.91

00:27:45.900 But I don't think it is dumb

00:27:49.140 Um, I think with

00:27:51.520 With most jobs

00:27:53.620 You could do that where you could describe it in a way 1.00

00:27:58.740 That makes it sound stupid and pointless 0.98

00:28:01.180 You could do that with most not every job 0.99

00:28:03.720 Okay, you couldn't do that with a heart surgeon

00:28:05.580 It'd be very difficult to describe the job of a heart surgeon in a way that makes 1.00

00:28:09.200 Being a heart surgeon sounds stupid and pointless 0.99

00:28:12.020 So with with some jobs, you can't do that 0.99

00:28:14.420 But with most jobs, I think you probably can

00:28:17.500 If you really wanted to

00:28:19.120 You could describe it in a way 1.00

00:28:20.720 That makes it sound utterly superfluous and stupid 0.99

00:28:23.620 Um, especially if you work in the business realm 0.99

00:28:26.900 If you work in an office building of any kind

00:28:28.780 Whatever you do

00:28:30.480 I could easily describe that in a way

00:28:33.020 That makes it sound worthless

00:28:34.560 Even if it isn't

00:28:36.780 I can make it sound that way

00:28:38.940 So yeah, we can do that with sports

00:28:40.600 You can say, oh, they just throw a ball

00:28:41.920 But

00:28:44.020 The only way

00:28:46.420 You know, if you're going to say that

00:28:48.220 That being an athlete 1.00

00:28:50.160 The sports are stupid and pointless 1.00

00:28:52.000 Um, the only way you could consistently do that 1.00

00:28:56.000 Is if you're also going to say the same thing about

00:28:58.740 Uh, film

00:29:01.040 About music

00:29:02.440 Okay, and film and television

00:29:05.600 These are people just pretending to be other people 0.99

00:29:07.960 What does a musician do?

00:29:09.680 You just make sounds come out of an instrument

00:29:11.680 What is that?

00:29:12.460 Who cares about that?

00:29:15.180 So you could definitely do the same thing

00:29:16.620 What you do with athletics

00:29:17.840 That reductive kind of view of it

00:29:20.220 You could do the same thing with the arts

00:29:21.680 And I think they're very much related

00:29:23.220 And I think sports kind of

00:29:25.900 It is an art in a certain kind of way

00:29:27.980 Um, but

00:29:30.700 If you really look at it that way

00:29:33.800 I mean, if you really look at sports as being worthless 1.00

00:29:36.140 And stupid and pointless 1.00

00:29:37.240 And you think the same thing about film 1.00

00:29:39.260 And you think the same thing about music

00:29:40.900 And you think the same thing about literature

00:29:42.520 Even though all these things can be described that way

00:29:44.620 Then you're not even a human

00:29:46.060 You're like a robot

00:29:46.920 I mean, there's no way that you actually think that

00:29:50.000 Every human I've ever met

00:29:52.320 Finds value in at least some of those things

00:29:55.140 And not just some value

00:29:56.660 But a lot of value

00:29:57.600 That's part of being a human being

00:30:00.880 Unless you're a robot 0.97

00:30:02.380 Unless you're the most boring person 0.98

00:30:04.640 On the planet

00:30:05.740 Where you really just don't like any of it

00:30:08.180 Can you imagine meeting someone

00:30:09.280 Who doesn't

00:30:10.140 Just doesn't like film

00:30:11.400 Doesn't like music

00:30:12.080 Doesn't like books

00:30:13.360 Doesn't like sports

00:30:14.080 Like what do you do with your free time?

00:30:15.700 What do you like?

00:30:18.500 No, but as human beings

00:30:19.840 We do find value in these things

00:30:21.800 And sometimes it can be a little bit difficult

00:30:24.900 To describe the value

00:30:26.100 Because it's not as immediately

00:30:27.700 Obvious as being a heart surgeon

00:30:31.020 Where, yeah, you're fixing someone's heart

00:30:32.420 So they live

00:30:32.980 Okay, that's pretty straightforward

00:30:34.340 But with something like art or athletics

00:30:37.160 It's a little bit more

00:30:38.240 You know, it's a little more abstract

00:30:42.460 A little bit difficult

00:30:43.140 A little bit harder for us to understand

00:30:45.380 As humans

00:30:46.140 Why do we like this?

00:30:47.720 Why do we care about it?

00:30:49.340 But the fact is that we do

00:30:50.480 And there is some deep meaning there

00:30:52.000 And, I mean, it's easy enough

00:30:55.660 Even with athletics

00:30:56.440 It's easy enough to see

00:30:57.540 For one thing

00:30:59.440 You know, it's a

00:30:59.900 It brings people joy

00:31:02.780 I mean, that's no small thing

00:31:04.580 To watch sports

00:31:06.960 You sit down with your family

00:31:08.760 You watch sports

00:31:10.120 You know, maybe you sat down at Thanksgiving

00:31:12.020 You watch football

00:31:12.700 It brings joy to the family

00:31:14.700 It's a wholesome joy

00:31:16.220 And that's no small thing

00:31:18.420 I don't see that as

00:31:19.100 I don't see that as pointless or worthless

00:31:20.680 It's a bonding opportunity

00:31:24.320 You know, it brings families together

00:31:26.200 It brings communities together

00:31:27.300 You go to a stadium

00:31:29.160 You know, you go to a football stadium

00:31:31.820 For example

00:31:32.100 I like going to the Ravens game

00:31:33.180 And 70,000 people in the stadium

00:31:35.220 And, you know, none of us really know each other

00:31:38.220 Or very few of us know each other

00:31:39.320 But at least for those three and a half hours

00:31:41.280 We're all kind of a community

00:31:43.060 Bonded over maybe something that isn't a big deal

00:31:47.640 But we're still bonded

00:31:48.440 And there's value in that too

00:31:50.340 So you can look at it as these athletes

00:31:52.700 They're very good at what they do

00:31:55.800 In terms of the actual athletic skill

00:31:58.320 But they're also very good at bringing joy to people

00:32:01.240 And giving people opportunity for bonding

00:32:03.440 Again, that's no small thing

00:32:06.920 Am I going to say it's more important than being a teacher?

00:32:11.780 No

00:32:12.220 I mean, I think it also kind of depends on the teacher

00:32:15.520 And it sort of depends on what they're teaching

00:32:18.300 I showed, you know, last week

00:32:22.360 I showed you the flyer of the

00:32:23.660 What was the flyer for a class in

00:32:27.520 What do they call it?

00:32:28.220 Queer ecologies 1.00

00:32:29.320 At some school in Portland

00:32:31.640 I think Portland State

00:32:32.400 I mean, certainly being an athlete

00:32:34.220 Is more important than being a teacher of that class

00:32:36.640 But generally speaking

00:32:39.420 What teachers do is very, very important, of course

00:32:41.360 But the good thing is

00:32:44.800 If they're the best at doing it

00:32:47.040 They're going to, you know, make a fine living

00:32:51.140 All right, before we get to some emails

00:32:53.160 This is very important

00:32:55.700 This is actually the most important thing we'll discuss today

00:32:58.640 And that's because one of the biggest problems today

00:33:01.160 In my view

00:33:01.840 Is that most people in the country

00:33:03.980 Don't know how to properly cook bacon

00:33:07.300 And now everyone says they love bacon, right?

00:33:10.180 And this has been an internet meme for years

00:33:13.060 Where people go on and on about how much they love bacon

00:33:14.960 Yet most of the time

00:33:16.440 I know you've had this experience

00:33:17.260 You go to someone's house

00:33:18.040 You stay the night

00:33:18.660 You wake up the next morning

00:33:20.240 They make breakfast

00:33:21.780 They make bacon

00:33:22.660 And then you feel grateful for that

00:33:24.800 But then what they put in front of you

00:33:26.760 Is an abomination

00:33:27.600 It's either burnt to a crisp

00:33:29.120 Thereby robbing it of all its bacon-y flavor

00:33:31.760 Or it's undercooked and flimsy

00:33:33.840 And has the consistency of microwave taffy

00:33:37.460 Or it's both

00:33:38.860 It's kind of burnt in parts

00:33:41.060 And then undercooked in other parts

00:33:42.300 And it becomes this pockmarked

00:33:44.520 Leprous monstrosity

00:33:46.880 So I'm going to do a PSA for you guys

00:33:49.620 I want to show you an example

00:33:51.520 Of perfectly cooked bacon

00:33:53.220 I'm going to show you a picture

00:33:55.020 Of what it looks like

00:33:56.420 This actually is bacon

00:33:57.520 That was cooked by

00:33:58.500 One of the great chefs of our time

00:34:00.760 Speaking of being one of the best in the world

00:34:02.160 At something

00:34:02.680 And one of the great chefs of our time

00:34:05.580 That is me

00:34:06.120 And I want to show you this picture

00:34:08.420 Here it is

00:34:08.960 Now you see there

00:34:10.020 And please leave this photo up for a minute

00:34:11.840 First of all

00:34:13.480 You see only four pieces

00:34:14.720 And now that could remove

00:34:19.120 All of my credibility as a chef

00:34:22.640 If I only made four pieces of bacon

00:34:24.420 Because who does that? 0.99

00:34:25.800 What sort of deranged lunatic 0.98

00:34:27.120 Only makes four pieces of bacon? 0.99

00:34:28.640 Well I will inform you that

00:34:29.840 I ate three of the pieces

00:34:31.320 Before I took that picture

00:34:32.480 I ate three of the pieces

00:34:34.040 Leaving four

00:34:36.300 To split among my family

00:34:38.420 And that's four members of the family

00:34:39.760 So they each got one

00:34:40.660 I got three

00:34:41.060 Actually

00:34:41.380 After I took the picture

00:34:42.620 I had one more

00:34:43.260 So I got four

00:34:44.840 And then they split the three between them

00:34:46.120 Because you know

00:34:47.120 That's what generosity is all about

00:34:48.320 But anyway

00:34:48.640 What you see here is

00:34:50.400 I want you to notice

00:34:52.460 This bacon is firm

00:34:53.440 It's got the nice singe

00:34:55.300 The nice blackened edge all around

00:34:57.460 It's got the reddish brown coloring

00:34:59.180 All throughout each slice

00:35:00.460 It's very consistent

00:35:01.360 The perfect mix of tender and crispy

00:35:04.560 Not overdone

00:35:05.360 Not underdone

00:35:06.200 The fatty parts are also cooked

00:35:08.360 Not burned but cooked

00:35:09.660 Melt in your mouth

00:35:11.240 A brilliant job by me 0.85

00:35:13.280 An amazing job by me

00:35:14.520 Now how did I do this?

00:35:16.680 Well I put the bacon on a preheated skillet

00:35:18.900 Heated to medium high heat

00:35:20.760 Don't want it too hot

00:35:21.780 Don't want it too cool

00:35:22.600 I put it on

00:35:24.120 Let it sit for about three minutes

00:35:25.240 And then I flip it

00:35:26.780 Give it another couple minutes

00:35:27.660 And now

00:35:28.880 Now that I've done

00:35:29.800 A couple minutes on each side

00:35:30.780 Now I'm really just flipping it

00:35:32.260 Back and forth

00:35:32.840 Several more times

00:35:33.860 And I'm trying to get that

00:35:36.080 Perfect color and texture

00:35:37.460 It's more of an art

00:35:39.560 Than a science

00:35:40.380 Cooking bacon though

00:35:41.840 Is all about vigilance

00:35:42.860 It's all about loyalty

00:35:43.800 Heroism

00:35:44.300 You can't leave the stove

00:35:45.300 For any reason

00:35:46.000 Eyes on the bacon

00:35:47.200 The whole time

00:35:48.280 All of your senses dialed in

00:35:50.440 Sight

00:35:51.520 Hearing

00:35:52.000 Smell

00:35:52.560 Become one with the bacon

00:35:54.680 Tap into its essence

00:35:56.280 Okay you're not just

00:35:57.620 You're not just

00:35:58.060 Doing this visual

00:35:59.000 You also

00:35:59.420 You're listening

00:36:00.080 You're smelling

00:36:01.260 You're feeling

00:36:02.320 You're sensing it

00:36:03.780 Now what my wife will do 1.00

00:36:05.400 She'll throw bacon on the stove 0.99

00:36:07.760 And then she'll leave 0.99

00:36:09.260 Because you know

00:36:11.340 One of the kids

00:36:12.160 Fell down the steps

00:36:12.860 Or something

00:36:13.240 And she has to go check

00:36:14.220 To make sure

00:36:15.380 They don't have to go to the hospital

00:36:16.220 Wrong

00:36:17.540 The kid will be fine

00:36:19.420 He'll figure it out

00:36:20.760 It's his fault

00:36:22.480 For falling down the steps

00:36:23.220 In the first place

00:36:23.840 Should have paid attention

00:36:24.700 Stay with the bacon

00:36:26.060 Baby's crying

00:36:27.400 Kids are screaming

00:36:28.520 Doesn't matter

00:36:30.200 Stay focused

00:36:31.280 Remember your priorities

00:36:32.680 Remember the great responsibility

00:36:34.700 That you assumed on yourself

00:36:36.580 When you opened that package of bacon

00:36:38.480 Now you're the one who opened it

00:36:41.900 And now you're committed

00:36:43.240 You have to see it all the way through

00:36:44.460 And then here's the trick of course

00:36:46.260 Make sure to take the bacon off

00:36:47.760 Of the stove

00:36:48.720 90 seconds before it's done

00:36:50.300 So you want to take it off

00:36:51.020 And it's a little bit underdone

00:36:52.340 The grease is going to continue

00:36:54.220 To cook the bacon

00:36:55.040 So you let the grease

00:36:55.880 Finish the job

00:36:56.540 If you take the bacon off

00:36:57.620 This is a big mistake people make

00:36:58.640 Take the bacon off

00:36:59.720 When it looks perfect

00:37:00.500 And you say

00:37:00.820 Oh I've got perfect bacon

00:37:01.880 You want to call all your friends

00:37:03.340 And family

00:37:03.700 Take a picture like I did

00:37:04.860 By the time everyone

00:37:06.280 Gets into the room

00:37:07.000 And you're taking the picture

00:37:07.900 It's ruined

00:37:08.560 It's done

00:37:08.980 It's burnt

00:37:09.380 Why did that happen?

00:37:11.000 Because it kept cooking

00:37:11.960 For 90 seconds afterwards

00:37:12.920 So you want to time it perfectly

00:37:14.220 Take it off 90 seconds

00:37:15.500 Before it's done

00:37:16.220 And then you will have

00:37:18.700 Perfectly cooked bacon

00:37:20.620 There's your bacon lesson

00:37:24.420 For the day

00:37:24.840 Let's go to emails

00:37:25.680 MattWalshow at gmail.com

00:37:27.280 MattWalshow at gmail.com

00:37:28.760 This is from

00:37:30.820 Let's see here

00:37:32.280 This is from Adam

00:37:35.960 Says 0.93

00:37:36.420 Thanks for pointing out

00:37:37.320 The necessity for conservatives

00:37:38.380 To make moral arguments

00:37:39.580 But now that you've said that

00:37:41.100 I'm really eager to hear

00:37:42.260 Convincing moral arguments

00:37:43.540 For conservative stances

00:37:44.760 The two big ones for me

00:37:46.040 Are healthcare

00:37:47.540 And immigration

00:37:48.720 Why is socialized healthcare

00:37:50.380 Morally wrong?

00:37:51.780 What's so wrong with people

00:37:52.720 Losing private plans

00:37:53.700 And paying for healthcare

00:37:54.460 And taxes

00:37:55.000 If it enables everyone

00:37:55.940 In the country

00:37:56.400 To be taken care of?

00:37:57.880 As for immigration 0.58

00:37:58.880 Many conservatives

00:37:59.640 Really do come off as xenophobes

00:38:01.340 When talking about the issue

00:38:02.580 It drives me crazy

00:38:04.000 To hear people saying things like

00:38:05.160 Take better care of our veterans

00:38:06.700 Before taking care of refugees 1.00

00:38:07.920 The phrase America first 0.81

00:38:09.640 Makes it sound like

00:38:10.880 We elevate ourselves

00:38:11.760 Above the rest of the human family

00:38:13.140 As a Christian

00:38:14.960 I believe that all people

00:38:15.880 Are God's children

00:38:16.680 As a Christian yourself

00:38:18.020 And a decent human being

00:38:18.780 How do you morally argument

00:38:20.640 For the conservative views

00:38:22.220 On these issues?

00:38:23.360 Well when it comes to

00:38:24.060 Socialized medicine

00:38:24.840 I think

00:38:25.440 You sort of skimmed right over

00:38:27.320 The part of people 0.84

00:38:28.120 Losing their private plans

00:38:30.500 But

00:38:30.800 That to me

00:38:32.400 Is a moral problem

00:38:33.600 People have a private

00:38:35.620 Insurance plan

00:38:36.740 If it's working for them

00:38:37.800 If they need it

00:38:38.700 It's something they chose

00:38:41.440 And for the government

00:38:42.460 To come in and say

00:38:43.260 You can't have that anymore

00:38:44.680 We have a plan

00:38:46.120 And you have to go on it

00:38:47.460 That to me

00:38:49.440 Aside from all the practical problems

00:38:51.260 And I agree with you

00:38:53.540 I mean

00:38:53.720 This is what you're responding to

00:38:55.100 This is the point

00:38:55.620 That I made last week

00:38:56.520 That when we're talking about

00:38:57.540 Something like healthcare

00:38:58.380 Or immigration

00:38:59.700 Or any issue

00:39:00.500 We have to make

00:39:01.780 The moral argument

00:39:02.460 And I'm not saying

00:39:03.140 We neglect entirely

00:39:04.260 The practical argument

00:39:05.280 About

00:39:06.160 Things like the cost

00:39:08.200 How much it's going to cost

00:39:09.180 But

00:39:10.740 We have to also make

00:39:11.800 The moral argument

00:39:12.340 And I think that should be

00:39:12.980 The primary argument we make

00:39:14.320 Because the primary argument

00:39:16.020 That the left makes

00:39:16.920 Is moral

00:39:18.500 And so we have to

00:39:19.420 Meet them

00:39:20.720 On that battlefield

00:39:21.820 And respond

00:39:22.900 On that level

00:39:23.640 It's very important

00:39:24.380 That we do that

00:39:25.000 And we cannot sound

00:39:27.620 As though

00:39:29.240 We're admitting

00:39:30.800 That their policy ideas

00:39:32.720 Are more moral

00:39:33.740 But we care more

00:39:34.700 About saving money

00:39:35.460 Because we're a bunch 0.97

00:39:36.240 Of sociopaths 0.99

00:39:37.240 And scrooges 0.98

00:39:37.840 But on this

00:39:39.900 I think that

00:39:40.520 It's

00:39:42.020 Pretty straightforward

00:39:43.520 That that's

00:39:44.300 There's a big

00:39:44.940 Moral problem there

00:39:46.100 With taking something

00:39:47.060 From someone

00:39:47.640 That's theirs

00:39:48.440 That they agreed to

00:39:50.200 That they need

00:39:50.940 That's working for them

00:39:52.800 And for the government

00:39:54.220 To say

00:39:54.640 No you have to do this instead

00:39:55.940 So I just

00:39:58.100 I see that as

00:39:59.060 Straightforwardly

00:40:00.500 Immoral 1.00

00:40:01.080 But then the larger thing

00:40:05.340 With socialized medicine

00:40:06.660 The moral problem

00:40:08.300 Is also

00:40:09.900 The practical problem

00:40:10.960 Is that it just

00:40:11.540 Doesn't work

00:40:12.140 It doesn't do

00:40:12.960 What it says

00:40:14.360 It's going to do

00:40:15.080 Which is

00:40:15.680 Which is to

00:40:16.600 Do better at

00:40:19.140 Taking care of sick people

00:40:20.560 Than

00:40:21.560 Then

00:40:23.860 You know

00:40:24.500 Than the free market

00:40:25.140 Does with healthcare

00:40:25.780 And we know

00:40:27.540 It's not perfect

00:40:28.160 On either end

00:40:28.800 And we could talk

00:40:30.600 All day

00:40:31.200 About people 0.96

00:40:32.260 Who get screwed

00:40:32.820 By their private plans

00:40:33.920 People who

00:40:34.560 Don't get taken care of

00:40:36.200 And all that kind of stuff

00:40:37.420 And that's a problem

00:40:38.600 But

00:40:38.900 The socialized medicine

00:40:41.100 Just does not do

00:40:42.000 What it says

00:40:42.380 It's going to do

00:40:42.900 And so

00:40:45.200 You know

00:40:46.660 There are people

00:40:47.320 This is why

00:40:49.380 You have

00:40:49.820 The long lines

00:40:51.060 This is why

00:40:51.560 People who are in

00:40:52.740 Countries with socialized medicine

00:40:54.180 Will come to America 1.00

00:40:55.080 If they need something

00:40:55.980 Like a heart surgery

00:40:56.700 So this

00:40:58.820 It just does

00:40:59.960 A better job

00:41:00.640 Of taking care of people

00:41:01.640 And I think

00:41:02.720 That that's

00:41:03.200 Both

00:41:03.880 It's practical benefit

00:41:05.220 And also

00:41:06.260 It's moral benefit

00:41:07.060 As for immigration 0.58

00:41:08.340 Well again

00:41:10.600 You say

00:41:10.920 Take better care

00:41:12.200 Of our veterans

00:41:12.660 Before taking care

00:41:13.380 Of refugees 0.52

00:41:13.880 That is

00:41:15.840 I don't think

00:41:16.840 That's our

00:41:17.240 Primary argument

00:41:18.520 On immigration 0.55

00:41:19.500 But that is

00:41:20.340 A moral statement

00:41:21.220 And it's

00:41:22.160 True

00:41:22.540 That

00:41:23.080 Our veterans

00:41:24.480 Are American citizens

00:41:26.520 They've fought

00:41:28.320 For the country

00:41:28.940 And for them

00:41:31.140 To come home

00:41:31.880 And not be

00:41:32.800 Taken well care of

00:41:33.940 That is a

00:41:34.420 Moral atrocity

00:41:35.620 And so I think

00:41:37.540 The point that

00:41:38.100 Conservatives are making

00:41:39.120 On immigration 0.55

00:41:39.900 Is that

00:41:41.840 The responsibility

00:41:42.920 Of the government

00:41:44.220 Is to

00:41:45.780 Take care of

00:41:46.560 Its own people

00:41:47.140 First

00:41:47.520 That's just

00:41:50.220 That is your

00:41:50.820 Responsibility

00:41:51.420 It's just like

00:41:52.020 I hesitate

00:41:53.680 To make this

00:41:54.340 Comparison

00:41:54.860 Because it doesn't

00:41:55.580 Hold true 0.67

00:41:56.020 In a lot of ways

00:41:56.760 But as parents

00:42:00.520 Our responsibility

00:42:01.500 Is to take care

00:42:02.220 Of our own children

00:42:02.800 First

00:42:03.060 That's a moral

00:42:03.540 Responsibility

00:42:04.140 Now the government

00:42:05.540 Is not our parents

00:42:06.300 That's why I say

00:42:06.800 Hesitate to make

00:42:07.520 That comparison

00:42:08.880 But the point is

00:42:09.640 Just where do

00:42:10.540 Your responsibilities

00:42:11.200 Lie first

00:42:12.000 And the government's

00:42:15.600 First responsibilities

00:42:16.340 Are to

00:42:17.180 Maybe I wouldn't

00:42:18.100 Say take care of

00:42:18.940 I don't really like

00:42:21.240 That phrase

00:42:21.960 When we're talking

00:42:22.360 About the government

00:42:22.760 But their responsibility

00:42:23.860 Is to

00:42:24.820 Their own citizens

00:42:26.000 First

00:42:26.760 And there's also

00:42:27.900 This

00:42:28.240 That if we want

00:42:30.740 To

00:42:31.120 Be there

00:42:33.020 For the rest

00:42:33.500 Of the world

00:42:33.900 If we want

00:42:34.480 To be a shining

00:42:35.080 Light to the rest

00:42:35.780 Of the world

00:42:36.180 If we want

00:42:37.380 To be able

00:42:38.040 To accept

00:42:38.600 Refugees

00:42:39.180 Which I think

00:42:39.540 Is a good thing 0.54

00:42:40.060 For us to do

00:42:40.640 If we want

00:42:42.200 To be a

00:42:43.020 Destination

00:42:45.040 For the

00:42:47.220 Huddled masses

00:42:48.160 The poor

00:42:49.500 The downtrodden

00:42:50.440 And so on

00:42:51.280 And so forth

00:42:51.660 I think all

00:42:52.440 That is great

00:42:52.940 But we're not

00:42:55.120 Going to be

00:42:55.980 That if we

00:42:57.480 Don't maintain

00:42:58.300 Our national

00:42:59.040 Identity first

00:42:59.760 We have to

00:43:00.140 Be strong

00:43:00.800 As a nation

00:43:01.600 So that we

00:43:02.900 Can then

00:43:03.440 Accept these

00:43:04.280 Other people

00:43:04.720 And have them

00:43:05.120 Come in

00:43:05.520 And then they

00:43:08.440 Can benefit

00:43:08.860 From it

00:43:09.180 If we become

00:43:10.280 Just like

00:43:11.240 You know

00:43:11.940 If we tear

00:43:13.220 Down the borders

00:43:13.920 Throw open

00:43:15.280 The doors

00:43:15.760 No more borders

00:43:17.220 And we

00:43:19.940 Become just

00:43:20.620 Like the

00:43:20.960 Country

00:43:21.180 Surrounding

00:43:21.740 Us

00:43:22.020 Then we

00:43:23.460 Can't help

00:43:24.040 Those people

00:43:24.620 Anymore

00:43:25.040 And so I

00:43:26.500 Think that's

00:43:26.800 Also a moral

00:43:27.380 Issue

00:43:27.740 But I think

00:43:29.560 It's good

00:43:29.860 That you're

00:43:30.260 Thinking of

00:43:30.940 It in

00:43:31.260 Those terms

00:43:31.720 This is from

00:43:33.040 Stacy

00:43:33.360 Says I want

00:43:33.860 To be a

00:43:34.100 Subscriber

00:43:34.580 Unfortunately

00:43:34.980 I have

00:43:35.280 Type 1

00:43:35.780 I have a

00:43:36.620 Type 1

00:43:36.960 Diabetic

00:43:37.460 Which make

00:43:38.040 Me get

00:43:38.340 Two jobs

00:43:38.820 To pay

00:43:39.120 For

00:43:39.360 But I

00:43:39.640 Hope you

00:43:39.880 Personally

00:43:40.180 Still read

00:43:40.680 This

00:43:40.960 When Lizzo

00:43:41.820 Showed her 0.99

00:43:42.560 Butt

00:43:42.880 Whoopie

00:43:43.480 From the

00:43:43.760 View

00:43:43.940 Said

00:43:44.300 Who cares

00:43:45.140 About the

00:43:45.560 Kids

00:43:45.980 Did she

00:43:47.200 Say that

00:43:47.600 It doesn't

00:43:48.080 Surprise me

00:43:48.620 But I

00:43:48.860 Didn't

00:43:49.040 I didn't

00:43:49.300 See that

00:43:49.580 When did

00:43:50.300 This change

00:43:50.840 Who cares

00:43:51.220 About the

00:43:51.560 Kids

00:43:51.780 Really

00:43:52.040 This is

00:43:52.860 Why it

00:43:53.160 Is impossible

00:43:53.680 As a

00:43:54.080 Parent

00:43:54.300 To keep

00:43:54.720 Our kids

00:43:55.060 Safe

00:43:55.380 I guess

00:43:56.180 That's the

00:43:56.600 Main fight

00:43:57.060 Against kids

00:43:57.760 Who cares 1.00

00:43:58.620 Kill them 1.00

00:43:59.100 Or make 1.00

00:43:59.380 Money off

00:43:59.820 Of them

00:44:00.040 By abusing

00:44:00.480 Them

00:44:00.720 Our future

00:44:01.940 Means

00:44:02.220 Nothing

00:44:02.480 To the

00:44:02.800 Elite

00:44:03.080 Sign

00:44:04.840 Mother

00:44:05.120 Of five

00:44:05.560 Kids

00:44:05.880 From teen

00:44:06.300 To

00:44:06.440 Toddler

00:44:06.800 I

00:44:07.680 Didn't

00:44:07.840 See

00:44:08.020 Whoopie

00:44:08.320 Saying

00:44:08.560 Who cares

00:44:08.920 About the

00:44:09.220 Kids

00:44:09.400 I'm not

00:44:10.480 Surprised

00:44:10.860 That she

00:44:11.100 Said that

00:44:11.440 Maybe I'm

00:44:11.780 A little

00:44:11.920 Surprised

00:44:12.280 She said

00:44:12.680 That

00:44:12.900 I'm not

00:44:13.600 Surprised

00:44:13.900 That she

00:44:14.160 Has that

00:44:14.540 Attitude

00:44:14.960 And that

00:44:15.840 Is the

00:44:16.120 Attitude

00:44:16.520 That the

00:44:17.020 Left

00:44:17.220 Has

00:44:17.420 That's the

00:44:17.640 Attitude

00:44:17.880 The media

00:44:18.240 Has

00:44:18.560 This is

00:44:19.660 What we

00:44:19.820 Were talking

00:44:20.120 About all

00:44:20.380 Last week

00:44:20.860 Part of

00:44:21.360 It

00:44:21.480 Part of

00:44:21.860 It

00:44:21.940 Anyway

00:44:22.160 This is

00:44:23.780 What we're

00:44:24.060 Up against

00:44:24.460 As parents

00:44:25.060 That the

00:44:26.920 Culture's

00:44:27.640 Attitude

00:44:27.960 Is who

00:44:28.340 Cares

00:44:28.520 About these

00:44:28.840 Kids

00:44:29.080 We're

00:44:29.800 Going to

00:44:29.960 Exploit

00:44:30.320 Them 1.00

00:44:30.580 Kill 1.00

00:44:32.040 Them 1.00

00:44:32.180 In the

00:44:32.360 Womb

00:44:32.540 If they

00:44:32.820 If they

00:44:33.140 Escape

00:44:33.580 The gauntlet

00:44:34.340 Of the

00:44:34.680 Modern

00:44:35.000 Womb

00:44:35.380 Then we're

00:44:36.580 Going to

00:44:36.920 Exploit

00:44:37.340 Them

00:44:37.600 We're

00:44:37.760 Going to

00:44:37.940 Corrupt

00:44:38.280 Them

00:44:38.620 And this

00:44:41.340 Is what

00:44:41.500 We're

00:44:41.620 Up against

00:44:41.980 And it's

00:44:44.400 Not very

00:44:44.740 Helpful

00:44:45.080 When you

00:44:45.360 Have

00:44:45.560 Non-parents

00:44:46.500 Who just

00:44:48.500 Sit back

00:44:49.240 And say

00:44:50.920 Oh it's

00:44:51.240 All the

00:44:51.500 Parents

00:44:51.800 Job

00:44:52.220 Do a

00:44:52.680 Better

00:44:52.840 Job

00:44:53.280 You know

00:44:54.540 Kids

00:44:54.760 Get

00:44:54.920 Destroyed 0.99

00:44:55.380 And

00:44:55.480 Corrupted

00:44:55.780 By the

00:44:56.020 Culture

00:44:56.400 And people

00:44:56.780 Who aren't

00:44:57.160 Parents

00:44:57.480 Say

00:44:57.660 Do a

00:44:58.560 Better

00:44:58.720 Job

00:44:59.040 You

00:44:59.160 Parents

00:44:59.580 It's

00:45:01.000 Like you

00:45:01.200 Have

00:45:01.340 No idea

00:45:02.080 You

00:45:02.360 Really

00:45:02.700 Have

00:45:02.980 No

00:45:03.420 Idea

00:45:03.960 What

00:45:05.100 It's

00:45:05.320 Like

00:45:05.600 Raising

00:45:06.460 Kids

00:45:06.700 In

00:45:06.800 This

00:45:06.940 Culture

00:45:07.180 Today
