The Matt Walsh Show - Ep. 448 - The Fantastic Stupidity Of The American Media

00:00:00.000 Today on the Matt Wall Show, President Trump wants to send $2,000 checks to some, many, many Americans.

00:00:07.420 Is that a good idea? Some people are calling it socialism or saying that it's like Andrew Yang's

00:00:12.600 universal basic income plan. I think that's absurd. It's neither of those things, clearly,

00:00:18.200 and I'll explain why. Also, the media has not let up on its lecturing about why we shouldn't call

00:00:23.620 it the China flu or the Kung flu or the Chinese flu or whatever else. And this, the fact that

00:00:29.560 they're focusing on this of all things right now proves exactly why we don't trust the media,

00:00:35.280 can't trust the media, and therefore we don't know who to trust when things like this happen.

00:00:40.500 And that just makes it all the worse in a situation like this. So we're going to talk about that as

00:00:45.320 well. Plus, five headlines, including the cringiest cringe fest of a cringe video that you will ever

00:00:54.180 cringe at. Some celebrities got together and decided they wanted to inspire us during this

00:01:01.980 pandemic. And you know that whenever celebrities decide they want to inspire us, it's going to be

00:01:06.500 bad. So we'll play that video for you. And in today's cancellation, I am as dangerous as this may

00:01:12.620 be for me personally. I will be canceling my wife. My wife is canceled. And hopefully she can't hear me

00:01:20.780 right now because we're all self-quarantined in the house while I am shooting this video as we speak.

00:01:26.040 But there's very good reason for it. And I will explain why. All of that on the way. But first,

00:01:30.480 let's check in with our friends over at Fairway. You know, I love all of our sponsors. This one

00:01:39.480 especially is a very easy one for me to try to sell because what it comes down to is it's delicious

00:01:45.940 meat that is delivered right to your home. And it makes life easier, especially these days when

00:01:53.840 you've got the delivery. You don't have to go out for it. And you can deliver however much you want.

00:02:01.360 And you can put it in the freezer and you can save it. So it's a good idea to keep food, to have it

00:02:06.560 stored. But also, let's just focus on the fact that it's really delicious stuff. That's what it comes

00:02:12.000 down to. Fairway is a family-owned grocery chain that's been in business since 1938. So they've

00:02:17.320 got a lot of tradition. They've been doing this for a long time. And you can tell when you taste

00:02:22.780 the product. Fairway's premium beef and all-natural pork is raised by family farmers and hand-cut by a

00:02:28.440 highly experienced team of Fairway butchers. From ribs to ribeyes, pork chops, beef tenderloin,

00:02:33.380 their certified heritage pork is crafted in small batches by Midwest Family Farms, making it the most

00:02:39.060 succulent pork that you'll ever taste. Fairwaymeatmarket.com. That's fairwaymeatmarket.com.

00:02:44.240 Also allows free access to the best recipes and cooking tips so your friends and family have a

00:02:48.480 meal they won't want to forget. And I've had discovered those recipes as well. So that's

00:02:56.260 great. They're not just going to leave you with the meat and then leave you on your own to try to

00:03:00.700 figure out how to cook it. Although, honestly, my experience has been, and I think this is the case

00:03:05.380 with most delicious cuts of meat. It's just salt. You want to put some salt on it, a little bit of

00:03:11.120 pepper. You don't want to overdo the season because you want the flavor of the meat to come out. But

00:03:14.320 you can find great recipes as well at fairwaymeatmarket.com. This week, my listeners can get

00:03:18.820 the Heartland package valued at $230 for just $99.99. So you're getting, that's over, you know,

00:03:26.460 half off. Plus free shipping when entering Walsh at checkout. The Heartland package includes

00:03:30.680 eight 8-ounce all-natural boneless pork chops, six 8-ounce USDA choice ribeye steaks, and then one

00:03:37.560 mouth-watering side dish, which could be loaded potato bake, gourmet cheesy corn, or brisket baked

00:03:42.980 beans. That's more than 50% off the best meat in America, plus free shipping. That's fairwaymeatmarket.com,

00:03:48.600 promo code Walsh, and look for the Heartland package. Again, that's fairwaymeatmarket.com,

00:03:54.060 promo code Walsh. Look for the Heartland package. Okay, so my plan right now is for

00:04:00.660 this episode of the show to be the last one where I talk about the China virus for a while.

00:04:08.160 The last for a while, not the last ever, but at least for a little bit. That's my plan. I can't

00:04:12.780 guarantee it will happen because I'm very bad on follow-through in general, but also because it

00:04:17.520 kind of depends on what's going on in the news. But I really want to stop talking about this every

00:04:22.000 day because I feel like you, the listener, are already consumed by it as everybody else is.

00:04:29.140 And so you probably don't need to hear it from me every day. That's my plan. I've been planning for

00:04:35.840 days now to have what I'm going to call the No Corona Show tomorrow. But just to find stories

00:04:41.780 and things to report and talk about that have nothing to do with the China virus, it's very

00:04:47.620 difficult. I mean, every website, it's about this. But so I'm planning on doing that tomorrow.

00:04:54.340 Right now, though, I do want to discuss a couple of things related to it because

00:05:00.560 there are, you know, I think a few important issues that I want to talk about.

00:05:06.140 So I'm going to kind of jump around a little bit between this and that. So bear with me.

00:05:10.900 First of all, the White House has announced a plan to send stimulus payments to American workers

00:05:16.660 who are suffering during the lockdown and the quarantines and having their jobs taken away.

00:05:21.300 Now, it hasn't all been worked out yet, but the idea tentatively is to send two checks of $1,000

00:05:26.920 a piece to people who make under a certain amount, although that amount has not yet been decided,

00:05:33.720 as far as I know. The stimulus package will also provide money to a number of industries that have

00:05:40.260 been especially hurt by the outbreak in response to it, like the airline industry. There's little doubt

00:05:45.240 that a bill like this, which already we're talking about a trillion dollars probably

00:05:48.980 going to end up being more. There's no doubt that there will be untold millions or billions

00:05:54.360 of dollars in pork and other unrelated expenditures added into it, and we'll have to fight over that

00:05:59.680 when the time comes. But the basic idea to send relief to American families is good. And I am

00:06:06.040 someone, as you know, if you watch this show, I am someone who is, I'm the last one to come out in

00:06:11.920 favor of a government handout. I am normally opposed to government handouts of nearly any kind.

00:06:18.480 But this I would wholeheartedly support. I think it's a good idea from the White House.

00:06:22.840 A few general points, I think, need to be made about it. Number one, people on the left and people

00:06:29.740 on the right have argued that this would be welfare or socialism. So on the left, they're saying,

00:06:34.800 oh, so now the conservatives want welfare or they think socialism is a good idea. And then there have

00:06:39.780 been some conservatives who are criticizing it and saying, I thought we were against socialism.

00:06:44.540 And then also there's been the argument that this is tantamount to Andrew Yang's universal basic

00:06:50.520 income plan. None of that is remotely the case. Yang's plan would give Americans $1,000 a month

00:06:57.600 in perpetuity, systematically, as an economic system. It's not a response to a, not a temporary

00:07:07.740 emergency response to a pandemic. It would be, that's just the way the system works.

00:07:12.320 Socialism and welfare are, again, systems that go on without end and work to make citizens dependent

00:07:18.340 upon the government. The proposal from the White House is entirely different. It would be a measure

00:07:22.240 taken in response to an unprecedented global crisis. Lots of extraordinary things are happening

00:07:26.800 right now. Normal life and ways of doing things have been upended for everybody in many ways across

00:07:31.520 the board. So a person can support under this circumstance, it would seem to me, a stimulus

00:07:37.640 check without, without granting any credibility at all to socialism or UBI or, or the welfare state.

00:07:45.300 Also, this is an important point. Americans are losing money and jobs because the government has

00:07:51.340 shut down their places of employment and told them to stay home. So whether you think those steps are

00:07:56.160 justified or not, the result is that many people are being prevented by the state from going to

00:08:01.160 their jobs and working and making money. So it seems only fair that the state would compensate them in

00:08:05.840 that case. Besides, what other choice do we have? People need money. They don't have it because

00:08:15.060 they can't work. Maybe it's as simple as that. Second point, some people have pointed out, some

00:08:21.320 Republicans have pointed out that families with children would need more than single people.

00:08:27.540 Others have worried that rich people and people who are working from home, like myself, we don't,

00:08:32.500 we don't need the money because we, we haven't had an interruption in our paycheck. So why would

00:08:36.260 you send us something? Uh, and, uh, and, and I agree that, you know, ideally you don't want to send

00:08:41.840 checks to people who don't need it. The problem though, is how is the government going to determine

00:08:47.420 who needs it and who doesn't? To go through that process of the government deciding that

00:08:52.780 that's a process that could take a long time, but it's not going to do much good if these checks

00:08:56.940 are sent out after four months of bureaucratic deliberation. People need the money now. So you

00:09:01.960 got to be quick about it. I think the better way, and this was a plan proposed, I think I mentioned

00:09:06.320 it on the show yesterday, proposed, uh, on Twitter, Josh Barrow on Twitter had the idea that, well,

00:09:12.320 maybe you just send the money to everybody or, or, you know, everybody under a certain,

00:09:16.600 everyone who is not very wealthy, uh, that should be easy enough. You send them to everybody

00:09:20.640 and then, and this may seem enormously naive, maybe it is, but, and then you have a campaign,

00:09:27.420 a social campaign encouraging people who don't need the money to pass it along. I've already

00:09:32.480 suggested now for something like this, you need a hashtag. Uh, so I've already suggested hashtag

00:09:37.260 pass the buck. And if you get a check and you don't need it because you already, because you're

00:09:41.360 working from home and your income is good, uh, and hasn't been interrupted, then you pass the check

00:09:45.800 along to somebody else. I would be perfectly, you know, I know my wife and I would be perfectly

00:09:49.120 happy to pass it along to other people we know in our lives who need it. Uh, and I know that we're

00:09:54.160 certainly not alone. I think many people would like to do that. The thing is, uh, you know,

00:09:58.840 we talk about uniting and people helping each other out. Well, on Twitter, on social media,

00:10:04.800 you don't see a lot of that. People are tearing each other to each other to shreds. If you look at

00:10:08.780 Washington, there's not a lot of unity there, but at any time you try to establish some sort of

00:10:15.680 general unity, you know, among millions and millions of people across the country that,

00:10:22.320 that what would that even mean? But my point is in individual communities,

00:10:28.200 I think Americans are very good at being united and, and helping each other out in difficult times

00:10:35.340 and helping each other through hard times. And we, we, this, that's what Americans do.

00:10:41.420 So I think you send the checks out and then you leave it to individual communities to help each

00:10:47.440 other out. And I think that they will do that. Um, now more to say about this in just a moment,

00:10:53.960 but first, because there's another really important point about this plan that I want to make

00:10:57.040 that separates it from socialism, welfare state, UBI, and so on. But first, uh, let's check in with

00:11:04.000 a lifelock, you know, to get your identity stolen. It's never happened to me. I've talked to people

00:11:09.600 who's, who's, I've, I've some people close to me that it's happened to. And I, it's, it's obviously

00:11:14.480 a bad situation. Very nerve wracking can be very costly. It's also, it's also wildly inconvenient and

00:11:20.780 time consuming. You have no idea unless you've been through it, how time consuming it is to get

00:11:24.500 through and to, uh, and to sort out. And during taxis and your name, your social security, lots of

00:11:30.400 available, uh, lots of valuable information is out there being sent back and forth. And so there are

00:11:35.840 a lot of opportunities for the bad guys to come in and steal that information. And then on top of

00:11:40.460 dealing with taxes, now you have to deal with it with your identity being stolen. You don't want

00:11:43.980 to have that. Trust me. That's why you need lifelock. The number one most recognized brand

00:11:47.940 and identity theft protection lifelock monitors for uses of your personal info alerts you to the

00:11:52.640 possible suspicious activity. And if you become a victim of identity theft, a dedicated identity

00:11:57.300 restoration specialist will work to fix it. So you have the peace of mind of knowing that you're

00:12:01.520 being protected from it. But if something does happen, you also have that backup of someone there

00:12:07.200 who's going to help you sort all the way through it. Um, now you can take advantage of this. I would

00:12:13.080 absolutely recommend it. It's these days, it's just crazy. It's like walking through the street

00:12:17.780 naked. You don't want to do that. You don't want to be using the internet, sending private information

00:12:22.380 back and forth without having lifelock. Join now, save up to 25% off your first year. Just go to

00:12:27.600 lifelock.com slash Walsh. That's lifelock.com slash Walsh for 25% off. Lifelock.com slash Walsh.

00:12:36.340 Okay. Um, talking about this, and we'll move on to something else in a minute, but talking about

00:12:43.060 this, this plan to send checks up. One other point, third, third point, this, this goes, I guess maybe

00:12:49.000 it could go fold into point number one, but it's, it's not welfare. It's not socialism

00:12:55.120 because these are payments that are going mostly to workers. That is taxpayers. That's the whole

00:13:02.320 point here is to compensate people who can't work because the government's told them they can't.

00:13:06.520 So you're compensating people for the lost work, work they lost out on because the government mandated

00:13:11.060 it. So they're getting their own money back. They are, they're taxpayers. They're the ones filling

00:13:17.880 the government's coffers. So that, that money that's being sent out, that's, if you're a worker

00:13:23.340 and you can't, and you've been working your whole life and you can't go to work now because the

00:13:28.620 government shut everything down and you get $2,000 or you get two $1,000 checks, that's not somebody

00:13:35.700 else's money. That's your money. You're, you're, you're the one that's been paying this. The

00:13:39.840 government's been taking money from you for years. So yeah, you're, you're owed that. I mean, I would,

00:13:44.920 I would call this an entitlement in the literal sense of the word. You're entitled to it.

00:13:50.300 The government's been taking money from you. It's your money. Now they're telling you, you can't

00:13:54.320 work. You need to work to feed your family. Well, basically what you're saying to the government

00:13:59.080 is I need some of that money back. That's my own money. You need to give it back to me.

00:14:04.760 So I just think, I think that's important as well. And that's a, there's a big difference between that

00:14:09.120 and something like welfare, where people who are working are forced. It's a forced charity model

00:14:17.820 where they're forced to pay for people who mostly are not working. It's an entirely different,

00:14:23.600 however you feel about welfare, it's an entirely different thing,

00:14:27.040 both in terms of the economics of it and philosophically. Okay. Now, um,

00:14:33.840 another thing I wanted to talk about, and this is, this is a dumb conversation. It is so remarkably, 0.98

00:14:42.060 incredibly, fantastically dumb, but it's a conversation the media wants to have the 0.99

00:14:46.380 conversation about whether it's, it's racist to call the coronavirus, the Chinese virus or the China 0.99

00:14:51.440 virus. Uh, Trump was asked about this by a, speaking of fantastically dumb, a very dim and exceedingly 0.99

00:14:59.040 dull reporter asked him about this issue. And I really love his response. I think this is, 0.98

00:15:05.140 there's a, there's a lot I like about this from, from Trump. It's, it's, it's nothing,

00:15:10.100 nothing extraordinary, you know? Um, but he doesn't have some snappy comeback where he's,

00:15:17.640 oh, he demolished her. He destroyed her. It's not that at all. And that's what I like about it.

00:15:21.800 So, uh, well, let's just play the video. Watch this.

00:15:23.760 Why do you keep calling this the Chinese virus? There are reports of dozens of incidents of

00:15:29.740 bias against Chinese Americans in this country. Your own aid, Secretary Azar says he does not use

00:15:36.240 this term. He says ethnicity does not cause the virus. Why do you keep using this? A lot of people

00:15:41.480 say it's racist. It's not racist at all. No, not at all. It comes from China. That's why it comes from

00:15:48.400 China. I want to be accurate. I have a great, I have great love for all of the people from our

00:15:57.300 country. But, uh, as you know, China tried to say at one point, maybe this stuff now that it was

00:16:04.720 caused by American soldiers. That can't happen. It's not going to happen. Not as long as I'm

00:16:10.580 president. Uh, it comes from China. Reports of dozens of incidents of bias against Chinese

00:16:17.080 Americans. Really? What bias was that? People deciding not to eat at the Szechuan walk down

00:16:22.340 the street. That's the bias. Panda express has a slow, a slow lunch hour. And now it's a hate crime

00:16:27.460 against Chinese people. I'm not making this up either. This, this is really what, according to

00:16:31.100 elected Democrats like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, um, and Rashida Tlaib and the rest of the squad,

00:16:37.540 according to them, that's, that is hate. Again, that's, that's bias. You're, if you're not eating at

00:16:42.100 a Chinese restaurant, of course, you're not eating at any restaurant now, but, uh, but it's no,

00:16:46.680 it's, it's the, it's the Chinese restaurants that are being victimized. But I have to say,

00:16:51.620 I think Trump's response was, was great. Uh, I love the response. He was rational, cool, calm,

00:16:58.740 logical, appropriately dismissive. He came off like a man who has more important things to worry about,

00:17:05.960 which he does. So the approach and the tone and the posture, uh, has been, I think, I think was great

00:17:12.160 there. And in general, this week has been very good in my opinion, um, with respect to his response

00:17:19.000 to the pandemic and, and to the media. And Trump indicates that he only made a point of saying

00:17:26.300 Chinese virus because China tried to slander our troops by blaming them for it. So Trump said,

00:17:30.980 okay, if that's how you guys want to play it, I'm going to label this the Chinese virus. And that again 0.86

00:17:35.240 is great. I think that's exactly what a president should be doing. A president should get offended

00:17:39.800 on behalf of our soldiers and on behalf of our people. This is something that, uh, the left still

00:17:47.880 doesn't understand about Trump and, and his appeal for a lot of people is that, you know, yeah, he can be,

00:17:53.840 uh, very cruel and, and, uh, and, uh, nasty towards certain groups of people, but those are always

00:18:03.660 the media, politicians, celebrities, other famous people, you know, that's who he's going after

00:18:11.380 people who oftentimes number one, deserve it. And number two, they can take it given their station

00:18:18.360 in life, but Trump, he's not, he's doesn't go after regular Americans. You know, when it comes to

00:18:25.940 American citizens, he's not going after them. He's defending them. Um, troops, law enforcement,

00:18:33.140 those groups. Now you, you contrast that with what you get from the left and where their contempt

00:18:42.040 is often directed. And it's exactly the opposite where they're going to direct their contempt at

00:18:49.180 those groups of normal Americans while defending politicians and celebrities and famous people. 1.00

00:18:56.740 Now, as for the claim that it's racist to call the Chinese virus, well, again, I say extremely stupid, 0.99

00:19:01.040 uh, not to get technical, technical, first of all, but Chinese is not a race. A person can hate China 0.99

00:19:06.480 all they want, and it still would not be racist. I mean, you could hate the entire country of China

00:19:11.800 and you wouldn't be racist. In fact, you could hate all Chinese people, which you shouldn't,

00:19:18.940 but as, as a matter of, of, of technicality here, it would not be racist because that's not a race.

00:19:23.680 It may be bigoted, prejudicial. It's not good. But in any case, that's not what's happening here.

00:19:30.560 People aren't, people don't hate all Chinese people. No one's taking it out on Chinese people

00:19:34.300 in general. Nobody's going around thinking or saying that Chinese people, all Chinese people

00:19:38.820 are infected. It's not what's happening here. What some people are pointing out is a simple fact

00:19:44.240 that the virus began its career in Wuhan, China. A great many illnesses, as have been pointed out

00:19:50.480 many times now, have, are, are named after the places where they began or after landmarks, uh,

00:19:58.240 like the Ebola virus is named after the Ebola river in, in Africa. You've got the German measles,

00:20:03.880 the West Nile virus, the Spanish flu. In fact, the Spanish flu is, is, you know, the Spanish flu

00:20:09.720 didn't start in Spain. It didn't hit Spain particularly hard, or it didn't hit Spain any harder than it hit

00:20:14.500 other countries. There's no reason for it to be called the Spanish flu. It's just one of the dozens 1.00

00:20:19.040 of countries that were hit by the Spanish, by the flu. And we decided to call it the Spanish flu.

00:20:23.060 So they have a complaint for this. I don't think China does, but of course there's more than just 0.81

00:20:29.460 the mere happenstance of China being the epicenter of the disease. The Chinese government is in many 0.98

00:20:34.660 ways responsible for allowing the virus to spread so far and rapidly, uh, because in the early days

00:20:40.640 of the outbreak, they responded much like the Soviets did with Chernobyl. They, they moved slowly 0.96

00:20:45.160 at first. They were more concerned with stopping the spread of information about the, the, the disaster

00:20:50.840 than they were about actually stopping it. Uh, medical experts were censored. Doctors were prevented

00:20:57.340 from warning the world and, and each other about the nature of the disease and how serious it was.

00:21:02.240 Some of the early whistleblowers are now dead, but the fact that there had to be whistleblowers in

00:21:08.800 the first place should tell you everything you need to know. If there have to be whistleblowers

00:21:13.540 who are doctors risking life and limb to tell the world about this virus, well, that's, that's,

00:21:21.560 that shows you what's going on in China. And it's all the more reason why the Chinese government

00:21:25.340 deserves to get the blame. Why shouldn't we hang this around the Chinese government's neck 1.00

00:21:29.680 and make them wear it? Especially now that they're attempting to turn the tables and blame us.

00:21:35.000 Um, but of course the media is more than happy to echo communist propaganda. If it means landing a

00:21:43.540 blow on Trump. Um, and, uh, but either way, it started with China and their dishonesty, misdirection 0.98

00:21:51.080 and propaganda made it worse than it had to be. Speaking of dishonesty, misdirection and propaganda,

00:21:55.700 I just think about what the media is doing here. Imagine being a reporter. There's a pandemic,

00:22:02.440 there are shutdowns and quarantines, and we're facing the prospect of a depression. Extraordinary

00:22:07.960 things are happening. Very bad things are happening. It's a, it is a, it is a historic moment in so many

00:22:15.860 ways. You have a chance to ask the president of the United States, a question right to his face on TV.

00:22:21.400 I think we all have many questions we would like to ask of people in positions of authority

00:22:27.440 who maybe know more about us, you know, no more about this situation than, than we do because

00:22:33.560 maybe they're privy to information that we are not. You have a chance to ask a question and that's

00:22:38.320 what you ask. You ask him why he's being a big old meanie head to China, China, as Trump would say,

00:22:46.320 that that's your question. Meanwhile, there's another reporter, Chinese American reporter for I

00:22:51.520 believe CBS who claims that a White House official called it the Kung flu right to her face. And this

00:22:56.900 has been a big controversy. Now she provided no evidence for this at all. She just claimed it. We're

00:23:01.800 supposed to believe her, take her at her word, because we all know when it comes to claims the media

00:23:06.500 makes about the Trump administration, those are always reliable. We should always trust those. But what

00:23:11.480 difference does it make? To quote Hillary Clinton, what difference, what, what difference at this

00:23:15.740 point does it make if that was said or not? Why should we even care? Okay. So let's, let's say that

00:23:24.540 someone did say that. Who cares? Get over it. Get the hell over it. Get over yourself. It's not

00:23:30.460 important. It really isn't. If this was a disease that originated in the American South and people were

00:23:38.340 calling it the, I don't know, calling it redneck-itis or something, you wouldn't be

00:23:42.660 complaining. That reporter wouldn't be complaining. No reporter would be complaining. They'd be joining

00:23:46.500 in the fun. And we all know it. So, you know, just get over yourself. And then of course, here's

00:23:52.700 Richard Engel, NBC's foreign correspondent. And he's on NBC and he's lecturing Americans on this,

00:24:00.840 on this issue. We should all listen to him because he's important. Watch.

00:24:03.860 It is easy to scapegoat people. And that is what has always happened when there have been

00:24:08.900 pandemics or epidemics that foreigners are, are attacked. Foreigners sometimes physically

00:24:15.080 attacked. If you look at what happened during the middle ages, there was lots and lots of

00:24:20.460 scapegoating against an ethnic group or a religious group whenever there were pandemics that affected

00:24:27.280 the society and frightened a lot of people. And China certainly feels that is what happened,

00:24:31.940 what is happening now with people calling it the, the Wuhan flu or the Wuhan virus or the,

00:24:37.140 the China virus. This is a virus that came from the territory of China, but came from bats.

00:24:43.360 This is a bat virus, not a China virus. It doesn't speak Chinese. It doesn't target Chinese people.

00:24:50.020 It targets human beings who happen to touch their eyes, nose or, or mouth.

00:24:55.160 Oh, it doesn't speak Chinese. Really? Is that so Richard Engel? I had no idea.

00:24:58.620 Thank you for that information because I had no idea. I thought the virus itself,

00:25:03.720 I thought when a virus infects you, it walks up to you and speaks to you in whatever language of

00:25:09.600 the country of its, of its origin of where it originated. And then you have a conversation

00:25:13.420 and then you, and then you, you engage in hand to hand battle with the virus. And only if it defeats

00:25:19.120 you in that battle, does it, does it then enter your body and, uh, and take control? I thought that's

00:25:25.380 how it works, but, but apparently not. Okay. So, uh, the China virus doesn't speak Chinese.

00:25:32.420 The Spanish flu doesn't speak Spanish. I guess next you're going to tell me that my French bread

00:25:37.300 in my kitchen doesn't speak French. That explains a lot because I was up all night trying to talk to my

00:25:43.560 French bread, trying to carry on a conversation. It was being pretty rude, giving me the cold shoulder.

00:25:48.300 Um, and he's right. He says that it comes, came from bats, but how did it get from a bat into a

00:25:55.420 person? Let me ask you that. See, the thing is most likely if there was a bat in this country 0.88

00:26:00.900 that had the China flu, uh, it, it probably wouldn't make it from the bat into a person.

00:26:10.200 And why is that? Because we don't eat bats in China. They do. And, and eating bats is an

00:26:18.400 objectively disgusting, unhealthy practice. So like it or not, this pandemic originates

00:26:24.660 from, comes from the dangerous and gross eating habits of some of the folks in that part of the

00:26:31.920 world. And once again, I say if, if, if people in the American South, if white people in the American

00:26:37.600 South had a habit of eating bats and then a pandemic started because of that, what do you

00:26:46.900 think the media would be saying? You think they'd be saying, Oh no, we can't talk about that. We can't

00:26:50.980 talk about the fact that this originates from, from, uh, rednecks in the South. No, no, no, no, 0.85

00:26:55.440 we're not going to discuss that. No way. Let's that's inappropriate guys. Come on. You think

00:27:00.680 they'd be saying that? No, the media will never admit that it has any responsibility here. But the fact is

00:27:06.660 that this is why there's been so much confusion and division and debate about the virus and what

00:27:12.260 we should do about it and how severe it is because nobody can trust the sources of information. That's

00:27:16.540 what I was talking about on my show at the, at the beginning of the week, that there's a crisis of

00:27:21.540 trust. Who should you listen to? These people, these ridiculous smarmy jackasses who have spent a week

00:27:29.040 now crying about the name that people are using for a disease that just shut down half the globe. 1.00

00:27:33.760 And we're going to trust them. No, we can't. So who then do you trust? There's no use being in an

00:27:40.640 information age. If your sources of information are, are, are manifestly unreliable, then it's

00:27:47.500 more of a disinformation age. And that's what we're living in the disinformation age. And then when you

00:27:51.720 have a pandemic on top of that and people want, they simply want to know what's happening, what should

00:27:55.880 I do? You've got nowhere to turn. And so this goes back to the media and that's, uh, and that falls on

00:28:02.300 their shoulders. But of course they'll never accept blame for that. We're going to go to, uh, your five,

00:28:05.800 five headlines in a second. But first, if you haven't had a chance to see some of the new content

00:28:09.960 we started this week, um, over at the daily wire, you should go and check it out, especially the all

00:28:15.920 access live show. Um, and you can find that dailywire.com and catch up. You can watch now they it's

00:28:22.160 right there in the title. Of course, the show, the, uh, it does, it does happen live, but you can go and

00:28:26.320 watch the videos if you missed it. Jeremy Boring and Ben Shapiro kicked off Monday evening. Jeremy and

00:28:30.940 Michael Knowles followed up on Tuesday night. And then I did a live stream last night, which

00:28:35.360 if you, uh, didn't watch it, then you missed me playing, uh, another original composition

00:28:43.300 from my banjo. That is a lot of people in the live stream were bugging me the entire time,

00:28:47.920 play the banjo. And I did. And I think anyone that was on the live stream, they were all saying

00:28:53.560 that it was absolutely beautiful. Uh, and, uh, they feel like their life has been changed

00:29:00.080 from seeing my performance. You missed it. If you didn't watch, so you don't want to miss stuff

00:29:03.640 like this. We'll be doing episodes the rest of this week at 8 PM Eastern, 5 PM Pacific all access

00:29:07.760 live is unique programming at the daily wire. Usually our, our podcasts are highly produced on these sorts

00:29:13.800 of stunning, very expensive sets. Like the one that you can see here, which is just my house,

00:29:19.540 my room in my own house. Um, but this is different. It's a more casual environment.

00:29:25.040 Uh, that's because the focus isn't on production value is just on connecting with you guys and

00:29:29.300 having a conversation, very interactive. Uh, it was actually intended for our all access members,

00:29:33.980 but in order to help us all feel a little bit less lonely during this time of being quarantined,

00:29:38.440 we accelerated the launch and we opened it up to all of our daily wire members for the time being.

00:29:42.420 So if you're a daily wire member, uh, you can take part in this. I would really recommend it.

00:29:48.020 And if you're around at 8 PM Eastern, 5 PM Pacific tonight, you can join us again

00:29:51.720 on, uh, the all access live show at dailywire.com. Okay.

00:29:57.060 Headlines. Number one, reading from Breitbart says New Orleans, mayor, uh, Latoya Cantrell signed

00:30:01.780 a coronavirus emergency order last week, allowing her to ban the sale and transportation of firearms.

00:30:07.080 She signed a follow-up proclamation on March 16th, 2020, further emphasizing her emergency powers

00:30:12.280 to suspend or limit the sale dispensing or transportation of alcoholic beverages.

00:30:16.680 Uh, the declaration declaring the mayor's power to restrict gun sales and transportation says that

00:30:22.100 she is quote empowered if necessary to suspend or limit the sale of alcoholic beverages, firearms,

00:30:27.000 explosives, and combustibles. Now this is clearly nothing more or less than a left-wing political

00:30:32.940 operative taking advantage of a national emergency to impose her ideological agenda by fiat and grab 1.00

00:30:40.540 power for herself. There is no conceivable reason why the sale of guns would need to be banned, 1.00

00:30:44.820 uh, during a situation like this. And in any case, it's not about need anyway, because the second

00:30:50.180 amendment, second amendment is still a thing that still exists. So this isn't even a conversation

00:30:55.380 about need, but I'm making the point that there isn't any connection between the Kung flu and this,

00:31:01.460 except in the other direction, which is that, uh, it may be all the more reason why you would want to

00:31:08.220 bear arms, especially when you consider what's happening in some other cities, like in Philadelphia,

00:31:13.420 where they're telling cops not to enforce the law. Even laws like theft, don't enforce it. Don't arrest

00:31:20.780 people for that. Well, if you're in a city like that, then you've basically been told by the police,

00:31:27.740 it's up to you to protect your belongings. Number two, the daily wire reports on Wednesday,

00:31:33.420 after seven young, after seven people were shot in Baltimore on Tuesday nights, Baltimore mayor,

00:31:37.820 Jack Young pleaded with residents to stop shooting each other so that there would be beds available

00:31:42.380 for victims of the coronavirus. On Wednesday, Baltimore reported a fifth person who had been

00:31:46.700 infected with the virus. The Baltimore sun reported, um, the five confirmed cases in Baltimore involve a

00:31:53.180 person in their sixties, a person in their twenties and three people in there or a person in their

00:31:58.140 seventies. Um, and three people in her twenties, all are in good to stable condition, but he's,

00:32:05.340 he's just urging people. He's pleading with them not to shoot each other. This is what it's come to

00:32:09.340 in Baltimore that you've just got mayors begging, uh, begging people not to shoot each other.

00:32:17.660 But remember, this is Baltimore. We're talking about, uh, we're talking about decades of democratic

00:32:22.700 leadership, which speaking of not being accountable, not, not, not taking responsibility.

00:32:30.140 Do you think the democratic party is ever going to take responsibility for the fact that

00:32:33.900 in most of these cities across the country that are crime riddled and falling apart,

00:32:39.900 they are, they have been led by Democrats for decades. No, of course not.

00:32:43.980 Somehow it's still the fault of, uh, you know, the racist conservatives.

00:32:48.060 Number three, MSN reports U S immigration authorities will temporarily halt enforcement

00:32:53.260 across the United States, except for its efforts to deport foreign nationals who have committed crimes.

00:32:58.620 The change in enforcement status comes amid the coronavirus outbreak and aims to limit the spread

00:33:02.540 of the virus and to encourage those who need treatment to seek help.

00:33:06.380 So we're going to limit the spread of the virus by not stopping people who come here illegally from 0.99

00:33:16.620 other countries. That's how we're going to limit the pandemic. Makes sense. Great.

00:33:21.660 Number four, Lizzo is now calling out tick tock, accusing the site of censoring photos of her in a

00:33:26.860 bathe in a bathing suits. She says that apparently when she puts up a photo of herself in a bikini,

00:33:35.260 mysteriously, it keeps getting taken down or, or I guess this is tick tock. So it'd be a video. I

00:33:39.580 don't know. I don't know kids. I've never used the site. One of the, one of them, they're a social

00:33:43.660 media sites, but she says that they're censoring the, uh, the footage of her and her bathing suit.

00:33:50.460 All I can say is, you know, sometimes censorship is not such a bad thing. That's all I'll say.

00:33:58.460 Number five, here's something that really should be censored. Case in point. This is so bad that it has

00:34:05.980 made me rethink my support of the first amendment. You could make an argument for abolishing the first,

00:34:11.740 the first amendment simply to prevent something like this from happening again. This is Gal Gadot

00:34:18.460 and her celebrity pals. They've all gotten together. Well, not physically together, but they've

00:34:21.980 all decided to compile a video that they hope will inspire us in this very trying time. And I don't

00:34:28.540 know, you watch it and let me know if you're inspired. Imagine there's no heaven. It's easy if you try.

00:34:37.500 No hell below us. Above us only sky. Imagine all the people. Living for today.

00:34:54.060 Yeah. Imagine there is no countries. Yeah. It isn't hard to do. Nothing to kill or die for. And no religion too. 1.00

00:35:12.780 Yeah. That, you can't get through it. You just can't. You have to look away. This is,

00:35:25.100 I don't know, I mean, do you think you could, that video is two minutes long. Do you think you could

00:35:28.940 watch? Could you physically handle watching that whole video? I cringed so hard watching that,

00:35:35.340 that I collapsed into myself and I was absorbed into myself and I turned into a black hole and then I

00:35:42.140 consumed the galaxy. And we are now all living in an alternate, alternate dimension. That's what

00:35:47.260 happened in the 45 seconds of watching that video. And I only played part of it. I feel like we need to

00:35:54.700 watch more. I'm sorry, but we need to watch more. This is penance. This is punishment for our sins.

00:36:01.100 Repent. Repent. Repent ye sinners. We'll watch a little more, but let's see.

00:36:07.260 You may say that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you will join us

00:36:20.700 and the world will live as one. Imagine no possessions. I wonder if you can.

00:36:35.420 No need for greed and hunger. Brotherhood of man.

00:36:42.860 Okay. I can't, I can't do it anymore. That's it. That's all I can do. I can't, I can't go further

00:36:46.380 than that. Of course they choose the worst song of all time. John Lennon, Lennon, Imagine. It's

00:36:51.340 the worst song, the dumbest song. And they're singing Imagine No Possessions. Celebrities in 1.00

00:36:57.740 their expensive clothes in their fancy mansions in Beverly Hills, quarantined in their mansions in

00:37:03.020 Beverly Hills. They're, they're telling us Imagine No Possessions, right? Well, I want to go back and I

00:37:07.900 do want to break down. There's a couple of things in this video that I think need to be analyzed a little

00:37:11.580 bit closer. So we're going to break this down. A couple of things. First of all, let's go back to

00:37:17.100 Natalie Portman's part of the video. Nothing to kill or die for. See, I'm, I'm surprised by that

00:37:26.540 because didn't you expect her to have a good singing voice? That's a little bit shocking.

00:37:30.860 I didn't expect her to be tone deaf. I think you always expect pretty women to have good singing 1.00

00:37:37.100 voices. You, you figure that's part of the package, but apparently not in all cases.

00:37:41.100 And then, uh, I don't know who this person is, but I'm, I'm very confused here.

00:37:55.420 So yeah, I don't know who that is. I don't know half, who half of the people in the video are,

00:37:59.820 but she's taking this way too seriously. Everyone else is basically mumbling as they're walking to their

00:38:04.940 car, but she's in there auditioning for American Idol. So I have to say who among us, who among us

00:38:14.540 does not every once in a while stand in the bathroom, taking a selfie video of themselves

00:38:21.020 singing a John Lennon song who among us? Oh, you guys haven't. Well, no, me neither. I was just kidding.

00:38:27.500 I wouldn't, I wouldn't do that. That'd be really weird. And finally, um, you know, this is not supposed

00:38:33.100 to be funny. I'm just concerned. Can we take a look at Will Ferrell? We don't have to play the

00:38:35.900 part of him again, but just look at the screenshot. He looks like he's been in quarantine since 1952.

00:38:42.700 Alternatively, he looks like me after my wife's been out of town for like 36 hours. That's what

00:38:47.660 I look like. Everything has just gone, gone to hell. I think someone needs to check on him,

00:38:53.180 but the thing is nobody can check on him because we're all in quarantine.

00:38:56.540 So you're on your own, Will. Hang in there. Um, imagine, imagine there's no heaven,

00:39:02.620 which ironically indeed is, is not hard to do after watching a video like that. Let me just say one

00:39:08.140 other thing about this. I was making fun of it on, on, uh, online today. And some people were saying,

00:39:15.180 what are you, what are you making fun of it for? These are just people. They're trying to inspire us.

00:39:19.180 Hey, you don't have to be so cynical. First of all, I do have to be so cynical. It's in my nature.

00:39:25.020 Second of all, uh, I'm making fun of it because it's, it's, it's funny. Third, you know, not to be

00:39:33.180 cynical, but why would the celebrities think that it's a good idea to put this video out? Why would

00:39:41.100 they do that? Do you think a bunch of Joe Schmoes would ever consider compiling video,

00:39:47.180 a video of them singing different parts of, uh, imagine tone deaf, acapella,

00:39:53.100 and then put it online? No, nobody would do that. No normal person would do that

00:39:58.540 because there's no reason to make that video. It's, it's awful. The only reason they made it

00:40:04.620 is because they figured, well, we're celebrities. And so even if it's bad and we can't sing and there's

00:40:11.580 nothing good about this video and no reason for it to exist, we're celebrities. And so people will

00:40:16.780 like it. People will be inspired because it's celebrities doing it. We're famous people.

00:40:23.500 It's, it's inspiring because we are famous people trying to inspire you. And if we're trying to

00:40:28.860 inspire you, you damn well better be inspired. That's the attitude that I don't like. This is 0.58

00:40:34.540 self-important. It's very self-important and also hilarious. All right, let's move on to your daily

00:40:41.340 cancellation. I will be unfortunately, sadly, with great trepidation and perhaps at great personal cost.

00:40:46.940 I will be canceling my wife. My wife is canceled and I have to keep my voice down because as I

00:40:51.980 mentioned, we are all self-quarantined right now. My whole family is in the house as I speak.

00:40:59.180 So this is her official notification of her cancellation. Let me explain.

00:41:02.460 As I, as I air my marital dirty laundry for, for everyone to experience. Now it's a bit of a,

00:41:12.220 it's a bit of a saga. So you have to, you have to stay with me here. But once, once I get there,

00:41:16.460 you'll understand. So it begins with my daughter a few days ago, losing a tooth. She lost a tooth

00:41:23.180 and she was very excited about it as kids tend to be. So I asked her, I said, Hey,

00:41:27.340 uh, bet you can't wait for the tooth fairy tonight. And then she said, and I wasn't expecting this.

00:41:32.620 She said, Oh daddy, I'm not sure if the tooth fairy is real.

00:41:35.580 And I said, what do you mean? Not real. Why would you say that? And she said, well, the last two times

00:41:43.500 I had a tooth under my pillow, uh, the tooth fairy didn't come. And I just woke up and the tooth was

00:41:49.100 still there. So I don't think she's real. Now at this point, of course, I'm realizing the oversight.

00:41:54.540 I'm realizing that I forgot to leave the money twice and I'm racked with guilt and I'm racked with guilt,

00:42:00.140 guilt, especially because my, my, my daughter, she never told us like she didn't wake up and

00:42:06.300 start crying and whining that the tooth fairy didn't come. She just, apparently she just silently

00:42:11.540 suffered. She felt her disappointment and dejection silently. And that somehow makes it even worse

00:42:17.220 because all parents of young kids know that when they whine about something, your sympathy for them

00:42:22.240 immediately evaporates, no matter what it is. When they're using the whiny voices, you have no sympathy,

00:42:26.900 but when they're upset, when they're really upset about something and they're, they're,

00:42:31.500 they're not whining and they're just sort of silently devastated, that's when it, that's when it gets

00:42:36.300 you right in the heart. Okay. And that's, that's how I felt. So, um, I felt like I, you know, I had to

00:42:40.720 come up with an excuse and I said, well, honey, you know, the, the tooth fairy is a deadbeat,

00:42:45.580 constantly forgetting. So it happens to everybody. Now, the great thing about having a child who believes

00:42:51.160 in mythical creatures is that you can always blame them for your failures. And I, I'm doing this all the

00:42:56.600 time. The tooth fairy is messing things up. Santa Claus is the Easter bunny, leprechauns, unicorns.

00:43:03.320 They're making all kinds of mistakes in this house. I never do. Daddy never does. If there's

00:43:07.000 a mistake made, it's one of them. Now sidebar here. I'm not sure why we're even doing the tooth

00:43:13.880 fairy thing in my house. I don't know why we're doing it. It's a very weird tradition. I mean,

00:43:17.760 think about what you're telling kids. You're telling your kid that a supernatural entity sneaks into their

00:43:22.180 room at night and steals their teeth. Whoever thought of this, why are we telling our kids

00:43:27.240 this? This entity, this creature apparently has a whole stash of billions of teeth, has billions of

00:43:33.820 teeth of children, like in a layer somewhere under the earth. I don't know. In a, hidden in a volcano.

00:43:40.420 I don't know where she puts it all. And it's, it's horrifying. It's, it's completely ridiculous as well,

00:43:45.160 which is why I suspect, and I'm trying to think where did this tradition come from? I think this 0.74

00:43:49.160 tradition originates as sort of an early IQ test for kids, because by the time they're old enough

00:43:54.560 to lose their teeth, they should be old enough to sense that this story is absurd and can't possibly

00:44:00.780 be true. Um, now my daughter has passed that test because she's, you know, she's at the age where

00:44:07.720 she's losing the teeth and she's like, eh, I don't know about this tooth fairy deal. My son, on the other

00:44:12.360 hand, has not passed the test. And, and, uh, I love him to death. He's a, he's a sweet boy,

00:44:18.640 but he's a, he's a simple child, which is what I love about him, you know, but he'll believe any

00:44:23.180 story you tell him. I could tell him that a magical flying warthog named Edwin comes into the kitchen at

00:44:28.680 night and does our dishes and he would believe it right away. It automatically, he would buy into it.

00:44:34.520 My, my, my, uh, my daughter, his twin sister is a bit of a skeptic though. Anyway, so my daughter

00:44:38.880 is suspecting, she suspects something, but she hasn't completely given up her belief in the tooth

00:44:44.080 fairy. So after she goes to bed, my wife tells me that I need to go into the room before I, you know,

00:44:49.000 she says, remember before you go to bed. I don't know why my wife couldn't do it, but you know, that's

00:44:51.960 the way it goes. Says, make sure you go into the room and leave some money under the pillow. And so I

00:44:56.280 said, okay, I'll do that. And, uh, so I, I go in there and at night and I try to, you know, I'm reaching

00:45:02.480 my hand under the pillow. My daughter wakes up, sits up in bed, like as if she'd been waiting for

00:45:09.400 me, which she probably had been. And she says, what are you doing, daddy? And I didn't have an

00:45:14.400 answer ready. I said, oh, I was, uh, I was, I was just, I was going to fluff your pillow. I was just

00:45:18.960 coming in to fluff, I fluff, I fluff the pillows at night. That's why I do. I go around and fluff all

00:45:22.640 the pillows at night. So that's what, that's what I was doing. And she looked at me like she didn't

00:45:26.100 believe me. Uh, but she goes back to bed and, uh, and in the morning she brings us up to my wife to, 1.00

00:45:32.060 you know, to mommy and, and tells her, tells mommy what happened, what she caught me doing,

00:45:37.240 trying to figure out she's suspicious. She's starting to think maybe daddy is the tooth fairy.

00:45:42.060 And then my wife tells her, my wife, for some reason, who is desperate to preserve my daughter's

00:45:48.600 belief in the psychotic serial killing demon who steals teeth, tells her that no, no, no, daddy's not

00:45:55.940 the tooth fairy. Daddy was coming in to steal the money that the tooth fairy left you.

00:46:00.560 My wife decided that it'd be better for my daughter to believe that her dad is a thief

00:46:06.460 who sneaks into the room at night to steal her possessions than it would be to just tell her

00:46:11.980 the tooth fairy isn't real. I told you it was a long story to get there, but it's,

00:46:18.360 it's important. And so that's why my wife is canceled. And I have been told, I cannot tell my,

00:46:24.760 you know, I can't, I, I'm denying it. I'm saying, look, I got my own money. You think I'm going to steal

00:46:29.020 your money? Your money is my money. Where do you think you got your money from? If I want to steal

00:46:32.660 money from you, I would just keep my own money and not give it to you. Anyway, we've been quarantined

00:46:40.280 for a long time. These are the kinds of disputes that happen. I think we'll leave it there. I was

00:46:44.920 going to do emails, but then I decided to talk about the tooth fairy for 25 minutes. And so we'll

00:46:48.440 have to just end it there. A lot of interesting emails we'll save for tomorrow. Tomorrow is the,

00:46:52.700 I should remind you, the no Corona show. At least that's the tentative plan. No mention of

00:46:56.880 coronavirus in the show tomorrow. We're going to think about other things to talk about.

00:46:59.460 Maybe we'll talk about the tooth fairy for another hour. Who knows? But thanks everybody

00:47:03.280 for watching. Stay safe out there. Godspeed.
