00:00:00.000 Today on the Matt Walsh Show, a major scandal as leaked emails revealed the Democratic mayor of Nashville was covering up COVID-19 data in order to fraudulently continue the lockdowns.
00:00:10.080 He didn't want people to know that bars and restaurants actually were not significant vectors for transmission.
00:00:15.140 So we'll talk about that story and also ask, given everything we've seen recently, why would anyone vote for a Democrat to run their city or state?
00:00:22.500 Also, five headlines, including Trump's patriotic education, as he calls it, initiative, and also a video of an unhinged woman berating a CVS employee for calling the cops on shoplifters.
00:00:34.040 And our daily cancellation will cancel the people burning J.K. Rowling's books because they're mad that she believes that men have penises.
00:00:41.820 It's a good reason, good a reason as any, to burn a book, I suppose.
00:00:44.580 All of that on the way.
00:00:45.780 But first, a couple of very important notes.
00:00:47.340 First of all, I want to tell you, of course, about our very good friends at Rock Auto.
00:00:50.140 So, you know, if you have a problem with your car, you have a few options.
00:00:55.080 You know, you can go to the mechanic and you can sit there.
00:00:58.160 You can pay a lot of money.
00:00:59.120 You can go to the auto parts store and wander aimlessly around the aisles not knowing what you're looking at.
00:01:04.320 Or I think a much better option is just go to rockauto.com.
00:01:07.680 So much easier than walking into a store.
00:01:09.440 The other part about walking into a store, at least if you're me and you're not an expert in cars,
00:01:12.780 you're going to get pelted with all these questions you might not know answers to, and you're going to feel very emasculated.
00:01:18.260 That might just be a me problem.
00:01:19.480 I don't know.
00:01:20.020 But either way, no problem there with rockauto.com.
00:01:22.880 You carry it around in your pocket, at your desk.
00:01:25.680 You have it in your laptop.
00:01:27.060 Rockauto.com always offers the lowest prices possible.
00:01:29.980 They're not going to change prices to, you know, sort of get as much as they can out of you.
00:01:35.240 They're going to give you the lowest price they possibly can.
00:01:37.100 Rockauto.com, family business, honest business.
00:01:39.900 They've been serving auto parts customers online for 20 years.
00:01:43.040 And you can go there.
00:01:44.300 Rockauto.com to shop for auto and body parts from hundreds and hundreds of different manufacturers.
00:01:48.640 Best of all, prices at rockauto.com are always reliably low.
00:01:53.360 And they're the same for professionals and do-it-yourselfers.
00:01:56.160 And they've got that great selection.
00:01:57.640 Everything you could possibly want.
00:01:58.980 Very easy to navigate as well.
00:02:00.660 So, go to rockauto.com right now.
00:02:03.280 See all the parts available for your car or truck.
00:02:05.980 And write Walsh in their how-did-you-hear-about-us box so that they know that we sent you.
00:02:11.840 Okay.
00:02:12.980 The local Fox affiliate in Nashville has obtained leaked emails that appear to show COVID-19 cover-up among city officials at the mayor's office.
00:02:23.560 But this was not a cover-up to hide how bad the situation was, as, you know, Trump and others have been accused of doing erroneously.
00:02:32.120 On the contrary, they didn't want the public to know just how safe and unthreatened they actually were.
00:02:36.800 So, this is from the Fox report by Dennis Farrier.
00:02:40.800 Says, the coronavirus cases on Lower Broadway may have been so low that the mayor's office and the Metro Health Department decided to keep it a secret.
00:02:48.540 Emails between the mayor's senior advisor and the health department reveal only a partial picture.
00:02:53.040 But what they reveal is disturbing.
00:02:55.100 The discussion involves the low number of coronavirus cases emerging from bars and restaurants and how to handle that.
00:03:00.180 And most disturbingly, how to keep it from the public.
00:03:02.660 The report goes on, on June 30th, contact tracing was given a small view of coronavirus clusters.
00:03:09.520 Construction in nursing homes were found to be causing problems with more than 1,000 cases traced each category.
00:03:15.080 We knew about that, of course, with the nursing homes.
00:03:17.560 But it says, but bars and restaurants reported just 22 cases.
00:03:21.280 Leslie Waller from the health department asks, this isn't going to be publicly released, right?
00:03:26.080 Just info from the mayor's office.
00:03:28.220 Correct.
00:03:29.200 This is from senior advisor Benjamin Eagle.
00:03:31.280 Says, correct, not for public consumption.
00:03:34.100 Months later, the health department has asked point blank about the rumor that there are only 80 cases traced to bars and restaurants.
00:03:40.240 Tennessee lookout reporter Nate Rau asks, the figure you gave of more than 80 does lead to a natural question.
00:03:47.240 If there have been over 20,000 positive cases of COVID-19 in Davidson and only 80 or so are traced to bars and restaurants, doesn't that mean restaurants and bars aren't a very big problem?
00:03:55.920 Health department official Brian Todd asked five health department officials, please advise how you recommend I respond.
00:04:04.840 And then here it comes.
00:04:05.980 This is the most important part.
00:04:07.260 The name of the person who gives this response isn't known.
00:04:11.260 Apparently, it was clipped from the screenshots that were sent to the news channel.
00:04:14.780 But this is what somebody says.
00:04:17.440 My two cents.
00:04:18.640 We have certainly refused to give counts per bar because those numbers are low per site.
00:04:23.380 We could still release the total, though, and then a response to the over 80 could be because that number is increasing all the time.
00:04:30.020 And we don't want to say a specific number.
00:04:31.760 However, the article that goes on to say that the authenticity of these emails was confirmed by a Metro staff attorney.
00:04:37.480 So what do we have here?
00:04:38.600 We have a Democratic mayor shutting down bars and restaurants, putting thousands of people out of work, ruining countless lives, eviscerating the local economy.
00:04:48.560 And all on a false premise that he knew, apparently, to be a false premise.
00:04:53.260 But, in fact, the situation is even worse than it sounds.
00:04:57.240 Let's look now at another local media report.
00:05:00.080 This is from the NBC affiliate in Nashville on July 2nd of this year.
00:05:07.420 On July 2nd, the city reverted back to the more restrictive Phase 2 of their reopening plan.
00:05:14.560 They had been in Phase 3, which allowed for bars to be open in a limited capacity, allowed restaurants to operate at a moderately reduced capacity.
00:05:24.020 But then on July 2nd, they went back.
00:05:27.660 Bars had to be shut down again.
00:05:28.980 It was open completely for two weeks.
00:05:31.280 Restaurants had to reduce their capacity by another 25% down to 50% from 75%.
00:05:36.360 A local musician in the city messaged me yesterday and said that, you know, bar owners were blindsided by this because they'd already opened up.
00:05:45.940 They'd also stocked up for the holiday weekend.
00:05:48.080 They were coming up to July 4th.
00:05:49.500 And then, out of nowhere, they found out about this in the media.
00:05:53.400 They were shut down.
00:05:54.680 And much of their product went to waste.
00:05:56.920 The mayor, though, said this in a statement at the time.
00:05:59.800 This was right before July 4th weekend.
00:06:02.720 He says, Nashville faces another challenge in a season of challenges.
00:06:06.680 Our Phase 3 has not been effective.
00:06:09.060 We are going to go back to what we know is effective in slowing the spread of the disease.
00:06:13.360 Beginning Friday, July 3rd, and for the next several weeks at least, Nashville will revert to a Phase 2 with modifications of the roadmap for reopening Nashville.
00:06:21.920 The modified plan is tailored on what we've learned through contact tracing investigations over the past several weeks.
00:06:28.480 It is in response to sharp recent increases and clustering of cases.
00:06:32.540 Okay, well, we know now from the leaked emails that contact tracing investigations really show that there was no reason for bars and restaurants to be closed at all.
00:06:43.420 There was no medical reason for him to do this.
00:06:46.020 So what was the real reason?
00:06:47.500 Well, it might be worth noting that a bar in the city, in fact, one co-owned by Kid Rock, as it happens, filed a lawsuit against the mayor not long before this Phase 2, the sequel, was debuted.
00:07:02.180 So was the mayor punishing the people that were suing him?
00:07:06.240 Was he trying to make things look worse because it would help him with the lawsuit?
00:07:11.180 We don't know.
00:07:12.300 But this is a massive scandal anyway.
00:07:14.160 It's also worth noting something else.
00:07:15.420 And I got several messages pointing this out, and I looked it up to confirm it.
00:07:20.960 The mayor's son was set to graduate from a swanky private school in the city at the end of June.
00:07:26.880 Now, under Phase 2, he couldn't have an in-person graduation.
00:07:31.260 But the mayor went to Phase 3, coincidentally, right in time for the graduation, and then back to Phase 2 right after.
00:07:40.080 Huh.
00:07:41.520 Now, let's zoom out and take a wider view.
00:07:44.240 The Democrat mayor in Nashville apparently hid COVID data, shut down bars and restaurants for no justifiable reason.
00:07:51.700 Yet the Democrat mayor of Chicago shut down her city while continuing to get her hair done by a professional stylist, even while threatening her citizens with arrest for doing the same.
00:08:00.040 Meanwhile, crime and violence plagued the city in Chicago.
00:08:02.540 She does nothing about it.
00:08:04.080 Democrat mayor of New York, one of the most incompetent and embarrassing public officials in our nation's history.
00:08:08.960 He's been stumbling his way through the crisis in disastrous fashion, trampling on the Constitution every step of the way.
00:08:14.580 Let's not forget, this is the same guy who threatened to shut down churches permanently if they defied him.
00:08:18.960 Democrat mayors of Portland and Seattle, they let insurrectionists run their city for weeks and months on end.
00:08:27.140 The Democrat mayor of Minneapolis laid down in the fetal position while mobs burned his city, invaded his police stations, burned his police stations to the ground.
00:08:36.600 He went to George Floyd's funeral and wept before the golden casket.
00:08:39.800 Democrat mayors of L.A., Atlanta, Kenosha, very similar things.
00:08:45.740 What you find all across the country where Democrats are in control is chaos, crime, economic regression and stagnation, filth, misery, the breakdown of law and order.
00:08:56.300 This is what you find.
00:08:57.660 These are people unfit to lead.
00:08:59.120 Half of them should probably be in jail.
00:09:01.260 But why?
00:09:02.100 I think that's an interesting question.
00:09:03.480 Why?
00:09:03.780 Why do Democrats make for such abysmal leaders?
00:09:06.060 The fact that they do is very apparent.
00:09:10.840 But why?
00:09:11.660 I think there are a few answers to that.
00:09:13.060 But here's one thing to consider.
00:09:14.100 Democrats put ideology first, forever and always, in all situations.
00:09:18.520 This has made them effective culture warriors, more effective than conservatives.
00:09:22.240 And it makes them effective activists.
00:09:24.620 And it makes them effective brainwashers of our children.
00:09:27.660 They are very good at exploiting any and all avenues to spread their satanic gospel.
00:09:32.320 But governing a state or a country or running a city, dealing with real problems and crises, pandemic, riots, crime, gangs, drugs, homelessness, that requires practical skills.
00:09:45.200 But Democrat governors and mayors are all lawyers, career politicians, activists.
00:09:49.820 Lori Lightfoot of Chicago, she's a lawyer.
00:09:51.640 Bill de Blasio started his career as a political organizer.
00:09:54.860 The mayor of Seattle is a lawyer.
00:09:56.680 Mayor of Los Angeles is a college professor.
00:09:58.560 He's been in politics for 20 years.
00:09:59.840 He's only 49, by the way.
00:10:00.940 These are people who don't know the first thing about leading, managing, solving problems because they're activists, attorneys, and academics and politicians.
00:10:09.360 And it shows.
00:10:11.280 Now, I say all of this, but I don't want to make it sound like they really want to do the job well, but are a bunch of blundering fools who can't figure it out.
00:10:18.660 They are blundering fools, but I don't think they actually care about doing the job.
00:10:22.200 I don't think they care about the people they lead or even like those people.
00:10:25.900 That's another problem with Democrats.
00:10:27.420 They're conditioned practically from birth to hate America and most of its inhabitants.
00:10:31.600 How can you lead people you hate?
00:10:33.840 How can you lead people you don't understand?
00:10:35.580 A guy like Ted Wheeler in Portland, he doesn't understand anyone on any side of any issue.
00:10:41.020 He doesn't understand the left-wing radicals he's appeasing.
00:10:43.380 That's why they hate him.
00:10:44.460 They ran him out of his apartment in the middle of the night.
00:10:47.220 He doesn't understand the normal people, what dwindling few remain in the city, who just want to live their lives and run their businesses.
00:10:52.100 He doesn't like them either, or care about them, or what happens to them.
00:10:56.220 And that's a common thread that links all of these people together.
00:10:59.180 And it's why you don't have to be a Republican.
00:11:01.300 This isn't a pitch for Republicans.
00:11:02.960 But if you vote for a Democrat to run your city or your state or your country, you are asking for disastrous results, which you will surely get.
00:11:11.320 Let's get to our five headlines.
00:11:19.840 Well, when you spend a lot of time on the Internet, as I certainly do, and I think we all do, and you are right now, which is good.
00:11:25.940 I want you to be here.
00:11:27.180 You leave yourself wide open to the bad guys.
00:11:29.840 There are a lot of bad people on the Internet who have devious intentions, shall we say.
00:11:34.260 The FBI Cyber Division is warning that students and families will be increasingly vulnerable to cyber attacks because of the current online learning and the use of teleconference applications.
00:11:43.800 You think about all the kids right now.
00:11:45.860 Kids are already spending way too much time online.
00:11:47.440 And now so many of them are hours a day on school, online, even young kids.
00:11:52.600 Since the start of the pandemic, there's been a 300 percent increase in cybercrime activity.
00:11:56.340 Actually, hackers are becoming more sophisticated in taking advantage of teleconference accounts through which they are pawning information like emails and passwords, which is why it's really important to have a, first of all, have a conversation with your kids about protecting their information.
00:12:11.220 You know, tell them the threats that are out there and help them with that.
00:12:15.000 But this is also why you need LifeLock.
00:12:17.320 It's important to understand how cybercrime and identity theft are affecting our lives every day.
00:12:21.420 We put our information at risk on the Internet.
00:12:23.120 And LifeLock detects a wide range of identity threats, like your social security number being for sale on the dark web.
00:12:28.960 And if they detect your information, they will send you an alert.
00:12:33.320 And if there is a problem, they're going to help you get yourself and restore your identity as well.
00:12:39.480 So nobody can prevent all identity theft or monitor all transactions at all businesses.
00:12:43.180 But you can find out if your information is for sale on the dark web.

00:13:06.100 Okay.
00:13:08.040 Let's go to our headlines.
00:13:09.760 Number one, President Trump yesterday unveiled something called the 1776 Commission,
00:13:15.460 which he established by executive order to promote patriotic education as he is selling it.
00:13:21.520 Here he is explaining it.
00:13:23.220 Today, I'm also pleased to announce that I will soon sign an executive order establishing a national commission to promote patriotic education.
00:13:32.300 It will be called the 1776 Commission.
00:13:40.960 Thank you.
00:13:42.680 It will encourage our educators to teach our children about the miracle of American history
00:13:48.040 and make plans to honor the 250th anniversary of our founding.
00:13:55.960 Think of that, 250 years.
00:13:58.760 Now, I like the idea, as we talked about yesterday.
00:14:02.160 I think this actually works with the topic of the show yesterday.
00:14:06.940 Our education system, as it is currently run, churns out people who both hate and are ignorant of our country and its history and its traditions.
00:14:16.440 And this is unique, by the way.
00:14:18.300 This is not normal.
00:14:20.860 It would be hard to come up with an example of an education system in any other country throughout history that had the goal of turning future generations against the country itself.
00:14:32.060 That's how our education system operates.
00:14:34.560 That's not a normal thing.
00:14:36.300 Now, granted, the whole idea of having an education system in a formal sense is relatively new.
00:14:40.700 But even so, ours is suicidal and self-destructive by design.
00:14:44.920 And it's good that we would do anything to combat that.
00:14:47.300 I'm in favor of that.
00:14:48.620 With that said, two points.
00:14:50.040 Number one, I would prefer if we called this truthful education.
00:14:54.640 I think truthful education rather than patriotic education.
00:14:58.200 Because the problem with what the kids are taught about America in schools, it isn't that the lessons are unpatriotic.
00:15:06.840 It's that they aren't true.
00:15:08.180 The idea that America is fundamentally racist.
00:15:13.300 That's not an unpatriotic idea.
00:15:15.220 Well, it is unpatriotic, but that's not the problem.
00:15:18.620 If it was true, then I would say, yeah, kids should learn that.
00:15:21.500 Kids should learn the truth in school, even if it's a difficult truth.
00:15:24.400 The problem is that it isn't true.
00:15:26.740 So it's untruthful.
00:15:28.360 So I would prefer truthful education, but patriotic education is okay, too.
00:15:32.680 And the second point is just keep in mind and remember there is no initiative that can change the fact that our education system is dedicated to left-wing indoctrination.
00:15:44.900 That is what it is fundamentally at its core.
00:15:47.660 That's not going to change, at least not overnight.
00:15:49.880 It will take generations.
00:15:52.180 That's a generational change.
00:15:53.820 And I know for me, when we talked about this yesterday, I got some emails from people saying, well, you know, if you abandon the education system and you're not fighting to change it, then you're part of the problem.
00:16:04.560 No, you know what?
00:16:06.040 When you say fight to change it, what you're saying is you want me to send my kids in and have my kids fight to change it.
00:16:11.620 No, you know, that's not my kid's job.
00:16:14.080 My kid's job at the age of seven is not to fight for changes in the education system.
00:16:19.080 It is my responsibility to make sure they are educated, not their job to change society.
00:16:25.740 They're not prepared for that.
00:16:27.980 They're not ready for that.
00:16:29.900 So it's a generational change, but frankly, my kids are not going to be part of making that change happen.
00:16:35.180 Also, by the way, Trump, I wanted to play this.
00:16:38.480 He attacked critical race theory during his remarks, and the media didn't like this at all.
00:16:42.380 Let's listen to this clip.
00:16:43.940 A perfect example of critical race theory was recently published by the Smithsonian Institution.
00:16:52.200 This document alleged that concepts such as hard work, rational thinking, and the nuclear family and belief in God
00:17:02.900 were not values that unite all Americans, but were instead aspects of whiteness.
00:17:10.900 This is offensive and outrageous to Americans of every ethnicity,
00:17:15.800 and it's especially harmful to children of minority backgrounds who should be uplifted, not disparaged.
00:17:25.980 Teaching this horrible doctrine to our children is a form of child abuse in the truest sense of those words.
00:17:35.420 Yeah, my only problem with him calling critical race theory child abuse,
00:17:39.400 and a lot of leftists were upset about that,
00:17:41.200 my only problem is that he should have said that it is putrid, noxious garbage, and also child abuse.
00:17:48.080 But what he said is totally true as well, unassailably true.
00:17:52.260 Number two, from the Daily Wire,
00:17:53.720 33 Republican lawmakers added their names to a letter that Representative Jim Banks sent to Attorney General William Barr on Thursday,
00:18:00.320 urging him to prosecute Netflix for distributing child pornography.
00:18:04.120 In the latest addition to the backlash against the Netflix Cuties movie,
00:18:07.880 which depicts prepuessing girls in sexually provocative situations,
00:18:11.400 Banks and his colleagues condemned the streaming platform and called for them to be prosecuted,
00:18:16.640 and that's what they sent the letter to Barr for.
00:18:19.200 I don't know if this is actually going to happen, but it should.
00:18:22.460 And I've been saying this for a long time, that standing up against filth and degeneracy,
00:18:29.660 standing up against the sexualization and corruption of children,
00:18:33.080 that is not only the right thing to do,
00:18:37.200 but the great thing is it's also extremely popular.
00:18:40.380 It's an extremely popular position.
00:18:42.500 If only the Republicans had the guts to do it.
00:18:44.900 And finally, it takes Republicans a while to figure things out.
00:18:47.960 But after a few decades, they've figured this out, and so this is good.
00:18:51.140 Number three, Lady Gaga, in another courageous moment from a celebrity,
00:18:56.080 has come out, you're not going to believe this,
00:18:59.120 she has come out against white supremacy.
00:19:03.320 I know.
00:19:04.460 Pretty risky position for anyone to take, especially a celebrity.
00:19:10.700 So this is from the Daily Wire.
00:19:11.740 It says, quoting her,
00:19:14.400 I am in the process of learning and unlearning things I've been taught my whole life.
00:19:19.440 Wait.
00:19:19.840 I'm in the process of learning and unlearning things I've been...
00:19:24.780 So first she's going to learn them, and then she's going to unlearn them.
00:19:28.760 Why not just don't learn them to begin with, and then you don't have to unlearn them?
00:19:31.180 I don't understand this.
00:19:32.660 She says, when you're born in this country, we all drink the poison that is white supremacy.
00:19:37.380 Social justice is not just a literacy, it's a lifestyle.
00:19:41.560 None of this means anything.
00:19:42.720 Nothing that I just read means anything.
00:19:44.180 She continues.
00:19:46.720 What do I think about posting a black square?
00:19:49.400 I think everybody has a different feeling about a black square.
00:19:53.180 Do I think there's such a thing as performative activism?
00:19:57.500 Yes.
00:19:58.080 Do I think there's been true activism that's been very important?
00:20:01.320 Yes.
00:20:02.120 Do I believe black lives matter?
00:20:03.940 Yes.
00:20:04.620 Do I believe this is going to get louder?
00:20:06.760 Yes.
00:20:07.460 Do I believe it should?
00:20:08.560 Yes.
00:20:10.020 Do I ask myself questions that nobody else really cares about?
00:20:12.740 Yes.
00:20:14.200 The last one was for me, not her.
00:20:15.860 So a lot of very courageous positions here.
00:20:19.500 Just to summarize, she thinks black lives matter.
00:20:23.540 She's not in favor of white supremacy.
00:20:26.320 And she thinks that as far as posting a black square, some people do it and some people don't.
00:20:32.060 Those are her opinions.
00:20:34.780 Bold.
00:20:36.120 Number four.
00:20:36.840 Now, here's something that's really bold.
00:20:38.160 Okay, let's go to real.
00:20:39.140 Here's some real courage.
00:20:40.380 The governor of Nigeria's Kaduna state has signed a law saying, this is from the Daily Mail, by the way,
00:20:46.220 saying that men convicted of rape will face surgical castration.
00:20:50.840 And anyone raping a child under age 14 will face the death penalty under the new legislation.
00:20:55.280 It follows public anger over a recent increase of rapes amid COVID-19 restrictions,
00:20:59.840 which prompted the nation's state governors to declare a state of emergency.
00:21:03.620 It says one of the officials, the drastic penalties are required to help further protect children from a serious crime.
00:21:11.340 I would be absolutely in favor of that in this country.
00:21:14.080 You know, I think it's sort of absurd.
00:21:17.760 If you're going to have capital punishment, the idea that the only thing that can earn the capital punishment is killing someone.
00:21:23.900 There are crimes you can commit that are at least as bad as murdering someone.
00:21:29.920 Oftentimes worse.
00:21:31.520 Raping a child would be one of those things.
00:21:34.700 That's never going to happen here, but I would be certainly in favor of it.
00:21:38.140 Five.
00:21:38.560 Finally, this really could have been my daily cancellation.
00:21:40.620 So it was kind of a tie between this and the one that I'm going to do.
00:21:43.480 So maybe this is daily cancellation 1A.
00:21:45.580 And I'll tell you what you're going to witness here in this video.
00:21:49.780 This video is the divide in America right now.
00:21:54.100 The two people in this video represent the two sides of America.
00:21:57.560 It's almost not even ideological.
00:21:59.680 You have reasonable guy on one side and insane harpy on the other.
00:22:04.400 Watch this.
00:22:05.860 May I ask, so I live in the neighborhood.
00:22:08.260 Sure.
00:22:08.360 And I have come to the CBS very often.
00:22:11.920 May I ask why you called the police on those two men?
00:22:15.440 CBS policy dictates that if they're shoplifters, the exit store with merchandise on Facebook, we should get the police involved.
00:22:22.840 And if the police apprehend them, we should issue a bar in the room.
00:22:25.840 Okay.
00:22:26.260 So I actually did not elect the press charges.
00:22:28.440 I said, hey, look, I just want them to know they can't come in here anymore because they shoplifted.
00:22:31.940 And I just need them to sign that.
00:22:33.440 And I need my merchandise.
00:22:34.480 And the officers obliged.
00:22:36.060 And the guys said the same thing.
00:22:37.320 Thank you.
00:22:37.860 And they left.
00:22:38.360 It's not your merchandise.
00:22:39.620 It's the store.
00:22:40.460 So you know what happens when the black men or black people, and you decided to call the police on two black people that stole, that allegedly took something from the store because you're willing to uphold the policy and they could have lost their lives.
00:22:56.220 We can agree to disagree on this because I don't work for you and I don't need it.
00:23:02.220 I follow my company's policies, not your policies, where I can appreciate your concerns.
00:23:05.780 So you're willing to risk someone's life for, what, $30,000 a year?
00:23:09.580 There was no risk in my opinion.
00:23:12.100 Thank you.
00:23:13.020 You have a great night.
00:23:14.660 What is your name?
00:23:16.120 My name is the store manager.
00:23:17.480 No, what is his name?
00:23:19.580 No one's going to tell you my name when you're sitting here videotaking us so that you can try and elicit some sort of violence against you.
00:23:24.740 It's not going to happen.
00:23:25.300 Elicit violence against you?
00:23:26.840 You just elicited violence against two black men by calling the police on them.
00:23:30.480 We got to walk away when one of them had a warrant and could have been arrested and the cops still let him go.
00:23:33.920 Just listen to yourself.
00:23:35.000 You work with black folks.
00:23:36.300 You just remember that.
00:23:38.740 Yes, you see, if somebody commits a crime and you call the police and they get hurt, probably while assaulting the cops, it's your fault for calling.
00:23:50.800 That's the point that that woman was trying to make.
00:23:54.160 This is obviously insane.
00:23:56.020 If you find yourself sympathizing at all with the woman in that exchange and not with the guy who is, I mean, that guy, give that guy a raise.
00:24:04.860 He's a manager for CDS.
00:24:06.340 He's not paid to deal with this.
00:24:08.620 But this guy, incredibly reasonable, articulate, and explains, patient as well, way more patient than I would be.
00:24:17.940 This guy deserves a massive raise.
00:24:19.360 But if you watch that exchange and you find yourself at all sympathizing with the woman, then you need to reevaluate your whole life.
00:24:28.900 But that's the side you're on.
00:24:31.880 There's a very clear dividing line here.
00:24:33.640 It is good guy, bad guy.
00:24:36.800 And you see in that exchange there, there's a very clear good guy, bad guy.
00:24:40.900 But there's something more insidious going on here.
00:24:44.200 It is the first thing that came to mind when I watched this.
00:24:46.520 Because keep in mind that in some of these high profile police shootings, the one in Lancaster, for example, Kenosha with Jacob Blake, another example, and others as well.
00:24:58.980 So, very often it's a woman.
00:25:02.540 It wasn't the case here.
00:25:03.900 But very often it's a woman who calls the cops because she's being threatened or abused by a man.
00:25:10.080 So then the person in this video, and this is what you hear from Black Lives Matter and Antifa as well.
00:25:17.300 This is a common attitude.
00:25:19.500 But what is she saying?
00:25:21.080 She's saying, apparently, if you're a woman being abused by a man, don't call the cops.
00:25:27.160 Because if he gets himself shot when the cops come because he's a violent lunatic, then it's going to be your fault.
00:25:38.260 I mean, how many women who are faced with the next Jacob Blake will hesitate to call the cops?
00:25:45.580 Because they know, based on their experience with this man, that he's a violent lunatic.
00:25:51.220 And if the cops come, then he might get himself shot.
00:25:54.740 And so the woman's going to worry, well, if that happens, my life's going to be over too.
00:25:58.640 Because everyone's going to blame me like this crazy woman.
00:26:01.800 And people like her are going to blame me.
00:26:03.900 So that's something that I really worry about.
00:26:07.060 But again, there's the dividing line in America.
00:26:08.940 Just decide whose side are you on.
00:26:11.160 Let's get to our daily cancellation.
00:26:12.940 All right, today we're going to cancel book burners.
00:26:16.260 Now, this should be a cancellation that I'm doing in 1930s Germany, not modern America.
00:26:21.680 But as always, those who allegedly hate fascism have a funny habit of copying its methods.
00:26:29.160 And it's happening yet again.
00:26:30.540 So here's the Newsweek report.
00:26:31.820 It says, a new TikTok trend has emerged this week as former Harry Potter fans protest author J.K. Rowling's widely criticized views on trans people by burning copies of her books.
00:26:43.620 One video posted by a TikTok user shows a number of Harry Potter books being placed on a burning pyre.
00:26:51.840 You have to stop using death of the author as an excuse to have your cake and eat it too.
00:26:56.160 The voiceover says, while the reader's perspective is an important part of interpretation and meaning, it is impossible to completely divorce a work from its creator.
00:27:03.520 The voiceover continues, the positive impact that J.K. Rowling's work had on millions of readers does not negate how her hateful lobbying has affected the trans community.
00:27:12.120 This doesn't even touch on the harmful fatphobia.
00:27:16.000 Oh, she's fatphobic now, too.
00:27:17.220 I hadn't heard about that.
00:27:18.800 Racism and valorization of supremacists and child abusers in her most famous work.
00:27:24.060 The video ends with a message.
00:27:25.720 Your love of Harry Potter is not more important than the lives of trans women.
00:27:31.100 Well, there's a false dichotomy if you've ever heard one in my life.
00:27:33.640 You have to choose between those two things.
00:27:35.820 Either Harry Potter or quote unquote trans women.
00:27:38.400 You have to choose between them.
00:27:39.820 Now, and you can see in the video here, one of the book burnings happening.
00:27:44.840 Now, why are people mad at J.K. Rowling?
00:27:48.400 Well, this goes back, of course, to the controversy that Rowling stirred up months ago when she first came out as a believer in biology.
00:27:55.660 This is a very stressful and dangerous thing for any celebrity or anyone who runs in left-wing circles.
00:28:00.220 To be exposed as a biology believer can have serious consequences in their lives.
00:28:05.500 For it to be found out that you believe that men have penises, this is the kind of thing that can ruin your life.
00:28:11.580 J.K. Rowling, she's discovered that.
00:28:13.440 Ever since she admitted publicly that men had penises, many of her previous fans have had this vendetta against her.
00:28:19.800 Now, this was ramped up this week when it was reported by Pink News, which is one of the most atrocious and dishonest left-wing rags in existence.
00:28:28.500 And there's a lot of competition for that title.
00:28:30.720 It was reported that J.K. Rowling has written a transphobic novel about a man who dresses as a woman to kill his victims.
00:28:38.080 And their tweet about it, which you can see right here, has 35,000 retweets with thousands of people reacting in horror based on a headline about a book that they haven't read.
00:28:49.180 And the irony is that many of these people who are freaking out about this book they haven't read, these are the same ones who said that you can't judge the Netflix movie Cuties without watching it.
00:28:58.280 Now, of course, you could try to argue that the knife cuts the other way, too, and I said you can judge Cuties without watching it, but here I'm saying you can't judge the book without reading it.
00:29:09.060 Doesn't that make me a hypocrite?
00:29:11.060 No, it doesn't, and I'll tell you why.
00:29:13.780 Here's the difference.
00:29:16.160 Cuties is a movie, which means the scenes with the young girls in sexually compromised positions, that actually happened.
00:29:25.420 They really did that.
00:29:26.540 But the filmmakers really had young children act that way, and they filmed it.
00:29:32.480 So you can absolutely object to filming 11-year-olds twerking without watching 11-year-olds twerk.
00:29:39.360 The same way you could object to someone drowning puppies without watching them do it.
00:29:44.640 A book is different.
00:29:46.520 Nobody is hurt in the making of a book.
00:29:49.160 It's entirely fiction.
00:29:50.780 It's just words.
00:29:51.840 So you can object to certain acts being committed against children without seeing the acts, but it doesn't make sense to object to words being written without first understanding the context of those words.
00:30:04.700 Hopefully the distinction there is clear, and I don't need to dwell on it anymore.
00:30:09.460 Now, other media outlets have jumped on the pile.
00:30:12.940 The Daily Telegraph, for example, reported that Rowling's book is about a transvestite killer, and the moral of the story is never trust a man in a dress.
00:30:23.500 And I think this is from someone who also didn't read it, but they're telling you what the moral of the story is.
00:30:29.080 Now, personally, I think that's a fine moral and good advice.
00:30:33.260 And in fact, if you call that statement, never trust a man in a dress, transphobic, then you're saying that the person in the dress is a man.
00:30:42.980 So wouldn't you be the transphobic one then, by your logic?
00:30:47.180 In any case, it turns out that this is all being blown out of proportion, unsurprisingly.
00:30:51.240 Madeline Kearns has a piece about this in the National Review.
00:30:54.520 This is what she says.
00:30:55.580 According to Nick Cohen, who reviewed Troubled Blood, that's the name of the book, after actually reading the book, transvestitism barely features in the plot, and when it does, nothing is made of the fact that the killer wears a wig and a woman's coat, not a dress, as a disguise when approaching one of his victims.
00:31:11.520 Cohen describes the work, which is the fifth installment in Rowling's Cormoran Strike crime series, as a 900-page novel that is Dickensian in its scope and gallery of characters.
00:31:21.800 It tells the tale of Strike and his business partner, Robin Ellicott, who are hired by a middle-aged woman to investigate the disappearance of her mother in the 1970s.
00:31:30.540 A character called Dennis Creed is investigated because he was thought guilty at the time, but a good dozen other suspects are also investigated.
00:31:37.480 He concludes, you have to search hard to find a justification for the belief that the book's moral seems to be never trust a man in a dress.
00:31:44.920 So it's all bogus.
00:31:45.920 And in fact, there's nothing new or strange about a story like this featuring a dude dressing in women's clothes to kill someone.
00:31:52.500 Psycho, Alfred Hitchcock has similar themes.
00:31:55.560 Silence of the Lambs has themes in that ballpark as well.
00:32:00.440 Of course, I wouldn't expect these book burners to know that because they've only read one book in their lives, Harry Potter, and even their knowledge of film goes back no further than about 2006.
00:32:08.740 All of this, and when I look at the modern left in general, it brings to mind a quote from C.S. Lewis in his memoir, Surprised by Joy.
00:32:19.240 And he said,
00:32:20.280 A young man who wishes to remain a sound atheist cannot be too careful of his reading.
00:32:24.560 There are traps everywhere.
00:32:26.360 That's the quote.
00:32:26.960 And what he meant is that, for him, atheism seems to be a tenuous and fragile worldview, which can be easily blown apart and so must be preserved and protected by, among other things, being very selective in what you choose to expose yourself to.
00:32:41.160 I think this applies even more so to modern leftism, though atheism and modern leftism, of course, are not unrelated.
00:32:46.600 But this is why we're seeing, you know, book burning popping up again, because knowledge, information, diversity of thought, differing viewpoints, these are a mortal threat to a worldview that cannot withstand the pressure, cannot stand up against the scrutiny.
00:33:01.380 All it can do is shout you down, shut you up, burn your book, cancel you, burn a building, throw a rock at you.
00:33:08.340 So, so very often it has physical responses to intellectual challenges, and that's because its intellectual arsenal is empty.
00:33:17.140 And you definitely know that's the case for you if you find yourself burning a book.
00:33:21.720 And that's why book burners today are canceled.
00:33:25.800 That'll do it for the show and for the week.
00:33:27.900 Have a great weekend, everybody.
00:33:29.440 Thanks for watching.
