The Matt Walsh Show - Ep. 591 - The Democrat Party Is The Most Anti-Child, Anti-Family Political Party In History

00:00:00.000 Today on the Matt Wall Show, I'll explain why no competent, responsible parent, especially

00:00:04.940 of young children, can vote Democrat. I just don't see how it's possible. Also, five headlines

00:00:08.820 including California's attempts to tell their residents how many family members they can have

00:00:13.920 over for Thanksgiving, where on their property they can meet with them, and how long they can

00:00:18.960 stay together. All of that the California government thinks it can tell its residents,

00:00:23.840 plus our daily cancellation and much more. All of that coming up. But first, let's talk about

00:00:29.240 our good friends at rockauto.com. With the ever-increasing number of makes and models,

00:00:35.180 it's now basically impossible to stock all the parts you need in the traditional chain storefront.

00:00:40.760 So what's the point of enduring these seemingly intimidating questions and everything while

00:00:46.100 you wait, while the guy behind the counter orders the parts on his computer, you know, choosing

00:00:50.780 the only brand his warehouse happens to carry, because that's the only option you have. You

00:00:54.540 have computers and phones with access to rockauto.com, so just go there. One reason to repair

00:00:59.200 and maintain your cars is to save money, of course, that you can then use for other important

00:01:03.960 things like mortgage or food. Why would you choose to spend 30%, 50%, 100% more sometimes

00:01:09.300 for the exact same auto parts at a chain store or a new car dealership? The rockauto.com catalog

00:01:15.480 is unique. It's extremely easy to navigate. So easy that even I can do it quickly. You can

00:01:20.060 see all the parts available for your vehicle. You can choose the brands, the specifications,

00:01:24.240 the prices you prefer. You do all of that. Just a couple clicks. It's done. Best of all,

00:01:27.400 prices at rockauto.com are always reliably low, and they're the same no matter who you are.

00:01:32.260 So why spend up to twice as much for the same parts? There's no reason to. Go to rockauto.com

00:01:36.720 right now. See all the parts available for your car or truck, and remember to write Walsh in their

00:01:41.620 how-did-you-hear-about-us box so they know that I'm the one who sent you there. Okay, the website

00:01:47.420 Pink News recently published a video of a young boy named CJ who calls himself gender creative

00:01:54.240 has decided that, quote, gender is over, and now enjoys the distinction of being the youngest

00:02:00.520 grand marshal in the history of gay pride parades. Here's some of that video. Watch.

00:02:05.640 Are we ready? Yeah! Ready! We're ready for pride!

00:02:09.920 Hi, I'm CJ Duran. I'm 13 years old, and I'm gender creative. My gender identity is male,

00:02:15.680 and my gender expression is female. I'm not. I've been gender creative my whole life,

00:02:19.680 but this is just who I am. To me, gender is over. We don't really need it. Like, it's kind 1.00

00:02:25.260 of unnecessary. I'm in middle school now, but in my old school elementary school, I changed

00:02:29.240 it so PE wasn't separated between boys and girls, and I changed the dress code for 26 schools,

00:02:33.860 so it wasn't separated between boys' clothes and girls' clothes. I am currently the youngest

00:02:38.940 grand marshal in pride history. I was grand marshal for OC pride. It was really magical.

00:02:44.020 It felt really powerful and like a dream, and it's really cool to be kind of like a leader.

00:02:49.600 It's very important for young kids to see that there's kids like them, so it's really awesome

00:02:55.000 that I was able to be the grand marshal and they can see me and know that they're not alone.

00:02:59.240 It's no surprise that young CJ has parents who, quote, support him, and by support,

00:03:05.380 we mean that his parents have worked very hard to inculcate the confusion, the lack of identity

00:03:10.500 from which the child currently suffers. A few years ago, his dad marched with him in a pride parade.

00:03:16.520 There's a picture of that. He's carrying a sign that reads,

00:03:20.100 my son wears dresses and makeup. Get over it. It is one of the more demented forms of child abuse

00:03:27.000 to dress your son in girl clothes and then literally march him through the street to show

00:03:31.620 him off like he's some sort of trophy. But this is how these types of parents view their kids,

00:03:38.620 as trophies to show off their own wokeness. But this is a type of child abuse that we are

00:03:42.500 supposed to accept, more than accept, celebrate, applaud, even emulate. And it's a form of child

00:03:47.200 abuse categorically supported and encouraged by one of the major political parties in this country.

00:03:52.940 What used to be the agenda of the fringe, radical, far-left LGBT movement has now become a mainstream

00:04:01.760 feature of the Democrat Party platform. One of its most visible standard bearers, Congresswoman 0.96

00:04:07.020 Alexandria Queza-Cortez, recently promoted a charity that helps children, quote, transition into a new

00:04:13.100 gender. She also expressed her approval of this video, which shows a drag queen performing for a 1.00

00:04:19.420 two-year-old. You can see it right here. And look at the father there, if you can call him that a

00:04:23.880 father. I don't think you really can. But he brought his two-year-old son to a drag queen brunch.

00:04:29.060 This is the Democrat Party. This is what the Democrat Party is. There might not be any video

00:04:33.060 that better encapsulates what the Democrat Party is, a drag queen dancing for a two-year-old. 1.00

00:04:38.760 And this goes all the way to the top. Joe Biden at a town hall two weeks ago endorsed the idea that

00:04:42.600 an eight-year-old male might really be a girl trapped in a boy's body. Every elected Democrat

00:04:48.180 believes this now or pretends to believe it and intends to use the school system and the media

00:04:52.580 and Hollywood and whatever other tools that they have at their disposal to brainwash you and especially

00:04:57.200 your child into the same belief. This is just one area, one extremely significant area, where the

00:05:02.300 Democrat Party has positioned itself as a threat to children and families. It would be reason enough,

00:05:08.420 this alone, for any competent and loving parent to never vote Democrat. But as the infomercial

00:05:14.880 salesman says, there's more, much more. This is, after all, the most anti-child, anti-family political

00:05:21.600 party in American history. The defund the police movement is an integral part of their campaign to

00:05:27.820 make families less safe, less stable. There's a reason why you mostly see a lot of young, childless,

00:05:34.480 very stupid people marching through the streets with defund the police banners and signs. No parent 1.00

00:05:40.500 wants to live in a community without police. No family man, when he's considering relocating his

00:05:46.060 family, tries to find a community where the police have fewer resources, less funding, are less likely

00:05:51.880 to respond to emergencies. Parents want police to be a phone call away, not social workers.

00:05:57.700 The defund the police movement is anti-family, and so it's no surprise to find it promoted by Black 1.00

00:06:02.460 Lives Matter, a group that has announced its intentions to destabilize the nuclear family.

00:06:07.880 In the realm of education, the attacks on school choice, the war on homeschooling,

00:06:12.940 all of this comes from the Democrat Party. It wants your child in his local public school,

00:06:19.160 nowhere else, or maybe not in it right now, but in his room in Zoom meetings with his public school

00:06:24.280 teachers. Wherever he is, the point is that you ought to have fewer education options and less of a say

00:06:30.680 over what your child is taught. That's the Democrat Party's perspective. The left is suspicious of

00:06:36.340 families, jealous of the influence parents have over their children, and intends quite explicitly

00:06:41.020 to interfere with, undermine, and finally subvert that influence. From the perspective of a Democrat,

00:06:46.940 your child belongs first and foremost to the state, and all of the most essential work of child raising

00:06:53.860 should be done by the state. It's the state's job to mold and shape your child and instill the 0.90

00:06:59.720 quote, correct values into his mind. Now, some Democrats will say this outright, others will be

00:07:05.620 more circumspect, but this is how almost all of them feel. If you're a parent of a boy, the assault is

00:07:12.180 even worse. The Democrat Party believes that young boys, especially white, young white boys, must be

00:07:17.360 deprogrammed of their toxic masculinity, reshaped into something more acceptable for our enlightened

00:07:24.560 society. In some cases, as we've seen, they seek to literally turn boys into girls, and they do believe 0.99

00:07:31.200 that such a thing is possible in a literal sense. But for all boys, the goal is to demasculinize,

00:07:39.060 to feminize. And as I list the assaults on the family and children, of course, we haven't even 0.70

00:07:47.560 mentioned the fact that the Democrat Party supports the murder of children at the earliest stages of

00:07:53.880 life. They reject the idea that children at their youngest ages can make any legitimate moral claims

00:07:58.920 for themselves or have any right to exist whatsoever. Democrats celebrate the slaughter of 60 million

00:08:03.240 children, and increasingly we hear Democrats, such as the governor of Virginia, advocating the murder of

00:08:08.520 born infants as well as unborn infants. As I said, the modern Democrat Party is the most anti-family,

00:08:15.400 anti-child political party that has ever existed in this country. I don't see how any parent who is

00:08:22.040 competent and informed and responsible could possibly vote to put these people in power. But those

00:08:28.560 qualifiers, unfortunately, competent, informed, responsible, excludes a large number of parents,

00:08:34.420 which explains the Democrat Party's political success, and why it remains a clear and present

00:08:41.920 danger to all families and all children in this country. Let's get to our five headlines.

00:08:54.560 Okay, number one here from the Daily Wire. Law enforcement officials in Philadelphia have

00:08:59.860 reportedly launched an investigation into a vehicle that was discovered containing explosives and

00:09:04.160 suspicious items, which comes as the city is rocked by left-wing anti-police riots and widespread

00:09:09.620 looting. ABC6 reported Action News has learned that police recover propane tanks, torches, and possible

00:09:16.760 dynamite sticks from this van. The bomb squad is on the scene at this hour. City officials say at least

00:09:22.140 200 businesses, many of them already struggling in the midst of the pandemic, were the targets of massive

00:09:26.740 looting across the city over the last couple of nights to assist police. An undetermined number of

00:09:31.280 Pennsylvania National Guard troops will soon be arriving in the city. Well, we haven't seen them

00:09:36.800 yet. Or at least we hadn't seen it. Through the first two nights of rioting, we didn't see any National

00:09:42.740 Guard. And very few police, actually, out there, too. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney slammed those who

00:09:48.360 were looting and rioting, saying that the destruction of property will not be allowed. Well, it's already been

00:09:53.820 allowed. We just got through. 200 businesses have been targeted. Well, we're not going to allow you

00:09:58.300 people to do what you've already done and continue to do. We won't allow it. He said the looting

00:10:04.800 that has taken place is distressing. And it's clear that many of these folks are taking advantage

00:10:11.220 of the situation, harming our businesses and communities, and doing a great disservice to those

00:10:15.200 who want to protest the death of Walter Wallace Jr. Well, nobody's protesting the death of Walter Wallace

00:10:20.680 Jr. No one is concerned about that. That's got nothing to do with anything that's happening.

00:10:28.000 Nor should anyone be protesting it because he was charging at police with a knife. And so there's no

00:10:33.220 injustice here. There's no moral outrage. It's a sad thing. Anytime someone dies, it's not a moral

00:10:38.240 outrage, though. Nothing illegal or unlawful or unjust took place. And then he continues from there.

00:10:45.880 So he calls it distressing. Great. Coming down really hard on them. This is very distressing.

00:10:53.540 I'm very distressed by this. You know, reading this, it reminds you, actually, in some ways,

00:11:01.000 how amazing it really is that the rioting has not, for the most part, escalated so far

00:11:05.480 into larger scale terrorist attacks like bombings. Now, this is all terrorism, in my view. Black Lives 1.00

00:11:13.180 Matter, domestic terrorist organization. I think they would fit that categorization to a tee. But

00:11:20.260 this is politically motivated violence. And the leaders of Black Lives Matter, the people out in

00:11:27.160 the streets, they're pretty explicit about that if you listen to them. But in terms of large scale

00:11:32.360 attacks like bombings, we haven't seen that yet. Not yet. Though it seems like from this, it's trending

00:11:40.420 this way. And I can tell you that if more Democrats are put in power, people who coddle these domestic

00:11:47.440 terrorists, encourage them, give them room to destroy, in the immortal words of the former

00:11:52.700 mayor of Baltimore, we're going to see that escalation. Because bad guys, they'll do whatever

00:11:58.160 you allow them to do. You sit back and let them loot, they'll loot. Give them even more liberty to

00:12:04.760 commit crimes and more violent crimes. They'll do that too. Number two, here's a story from a few

00:12:09.940 days ago that I haven't had a chance to talk about until now. But I can't, but I have to talk about

00:12:13.940 it. I can't just let this one be. Article in Newsweek, it says, ahead of Thanksgiving next month,

00:12:20.000 California Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Department of Public Health released new safety

00:12:25.620 guidelines for all private gatherings amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The new rules come with

00:12:31.940 restrictions that aim to help reduce the risk of spreading infection. And here's what the statement

00:12:39.920 says from the CDPH, the California Department of Public Health. Gatherings are defined as social

00:12:45.080 situations that bring people together from different households at the same time in a single space or

00:12:49.700 place. Well, that's good. Thank you for defining gatherings for us. All gatherings must include no more

00:12:55.740 than three households, including hosts and guests, and must be held outdoors, lasting for two hours or

00:13:02.020 less. The longer the duration, the risk of transmission increases. Gatherings that occur outdoors are

00:13:08.820 significantly safer than indoor gatherings. All gatherings must be held outside. Attendees may go

00:13:13.520 inside to use restrooms. Very merciful. I thank you for that. I mean, they could be telling us to go just

00:13:18.820 pee in our, you know, if you're visiting your in-laws or something. They could tell you to go pee in the

00:13:25.920 bushes. But no, they're allowing you to go inside. So thank you so much to our benevolent rulers. I am

00:13:32.000 so grateful. So you may be going to use the restroom. The new rules state that those at the gathering may

00:13:41.180 remove their face coverings briefly to eat or drink as long as they stay at least six feet away from

00:13:46.620 everyone outside their own household and put their face covering back on as soon as they are done with

00:13:51.120 the activity. It also mentions that now that, of course, no singing or shouting or any other form of

00:13:57.440 loud communication will be allowed. So Democrats in California, talk about talk about the war on

00:14:03.860 family. I could have included this. I was saving it for here. They are telling you how many of your own

00:14:10.640 family members you can have at your home, where on your property you're allowed to meet with them,

00:14:17.980 how long you may be with them, what you may do together while you are with them, and also that

00:14:26.060 you have to wear a mask. You can lift it up to take a drink, but make sure you're six feet away. So

00:14:31.500 every time you want to take a drink, you have to run away from everybody, lift up your mask,

00:14:35.220 take the drink, and then go back. This is almost unbelievable. I have to tell you, when I first

00:14:46.660 saw this online, I'm not even saying this to be funny. I really thought it might be a parody. I

00:14:51.700 thought, because someone had screenshotted some of the stuff, like some of the passages from this

00:14:59.040 article, and I think that's how I first saw it on Twitter, and I really thought it was from Babylon B.

00:15:06.120 But no, this is very real. And of course, it goes without saying, should go without saying,

00:15:14.440 they have absolutely no authority to do this at all. They have no authority and no power,

00:15:20.160 no legitimate power to tell you how many family members you can have at your own house.

00:15:26.260 I mean, the California Department of Public Health, what the hell authority do you have to

00:15:32.120 make these decisions for me and what I can do in my own home?

00:15:39.260 Number three, if you needed more reasons to not support the Girl Scouts, aside from the fact that

00:15:44.880 their cookies taste like graham crackers that have been sitting in your grandmother's pantry since

00:15:49.040 1987, aside from that, here's another one. The Girl Scouts tweeted this yesterday, a note of

00:15:54.000 congratulations to Amy Coney Barrett for becoming the fifth woman appointed to the Supreme Court. Now,

00:15:58.700 that's not the reason to not support them. That's fine. Okay? That's a, you know, very nonpartisan.

00:16:03.800 It's a tweet saying congratulations. There's a picture of all five women that have been

00:16:08.600 appointed to the Supreme Court, and that's it. Nonpolitical, nonpartisan, fine.

00:16:14.100 But leftists, of course, were upset about this, because any positive acknowledgement of Amy Coney Barrett,

00:16:19.720 or any other conservative, is verboten, is anathema, heretical. You can't do it. They can't

00:16:25.740 stomach it. They can't allow it. So they ganged up and bullied the Girl Scouts into deleting and

00:16:30.840 essentially apologizing for this post and saying that, you know, it was a mistake to put it up because

00:16:36.220 they didn't want to be political. They weren't trying to be political. They're a non-political

00:16:39.380 organization. But then, shocker of shockers here, Girl Scouts have tweeted in the past congratulating

00:16:45.780 liberal female Supreme Court justices, like Sonia Sotomayor, and those tweets are still up. 1.00

00:16:52.220 So those apparently are not political. It becomes political all of a sudden when you're congratulating

00:16:57.240 a conservative. Right. So what are the Girl Scouts teaching girls here? What's the lesson?

00:17:02.760 They're teaching girls to cave to peer pressure, back down to the mob, apologize for doing things 1.00

00:17:09.360 that aren't wrong just because it made someone's tummy hurt and they complained about it, and conform

00:17:14.940 to the crowd. That's what they're being taught. Basically, all of the exactly wrong sorts of

00:17:21.060 lessons. That's what you get from the Girl Scouts. Number four, I'm going to show you something.

00:17:25.620 Speaking of things that seem like a joke at first, I'm going to show you this. This is 100% real.

00:17:30.300 I assure you. But with no setup, here it is without context. Watch.

00:17:35.100 As of today, there have been 38,160 cases of COVID-19 in Oregon, with 390 new cases being

00:17:44.460 reported today. Sadly, we are also reporting three deaths today, bringing the statewide total

00:17:51.460 for COVID-19-related deaths to 608.

00:17:54.740 Now, for those listening to the podcast, the audio probably didn't sound too bad. You're probably

00:18:04.720 listening to that and thinking, okay, what's the problem? It sounded like maybe some kind of health

00:18:08.720 official announcing COVID daily death numbers, which is what it was. That's a senior official

00:18:14.500 with the Oregon Health Authority making this announcement about COVID. Problem, and what you

00:18:20.400 can't see if you're only listening is that the woman is actually wearing clown makeup. She is 1.00

00:18:26.660 dressed like a clown to tell us who died from COVID. This was apparently supposed to be some 0.91

00:18:33.880 sort of Halloween thing, okay? But that's not an excuse. I mean, just because it's going to be

00:18:39.760 Halloween soon, that doesn't mean you could just wear a costume anytime you want, regardless of the

00:18:46.840 circumstance. How would you feel if you were going in for heart surgery, and your heart surgeon, right

00:18:51.400 before you went under from the anesthesia, you see your heart surgeon coming in dressed like Freddy

00:18:57.380 Krueger to celebrate the occasion? What? It's Halloween? Relax. Or what if you went to identify a

00:19:05.740 relative's remains at the coroner's office, and the woman there is dressed like a sexy vampire? 1.00

00:19:11.680 It's just, it's not appropriate for the occasion. And I would say, costumes really are never

00:19:18.600 appropriate for adults. It never really works, but especially not in a professional context. Though, I

00:19:23.040 also have to say, the fact that Oregon has literal clowns running their pandemic response 0.98

00:19:29.120 does not surprise me at all. Okay, number five, here's another addition to everyone's favorite genre

00:19:36.660 of TikTok videos. That would be the genre of women having mental breakdowns on camera over news events. 1.00

00:19:44.020 A lot of these, usually this is done in the car, which I think actually explains a lot, by the way,

00:19:48.300 about women drivers, that this is where they do their, their, this is, this is where they have their 1.00

00:19:53.680 emotional collapses. That doesn't surprise me a lot either. But here's something a little bit

00:19:59.100 different. This is a mental breakdown in the bathtub. This is a few days old, but it's still good

00:20:03.400 stuff. Still worth playing. Here it is. Check it out. Don't mind me. I'm in the bath, but

00:20:09.600 while I'm in here, I got a notification that Amy Coney Barrett was officially confirmed to the Supreme Court.

00:20:27.200 I didn't think I would be this affected by it, but I'm scared. I'm scared for me, other women,

00:20:40.880 people who need help. Everyone except white men. So, um, please vote next week. Let's try to do something. 0.96

00:20:53.560 You know, I see videos like this and there's this hopeful part of me that says this has to be parody.

00:20:58.320 It has to be a joke. And maybe it is. I don't know. There's obviously planning and fourth forethought

00:21:03.040 and, and editing even that goes into this. Why would someone do this except as a joke?

00:21:10.180 You're crying in a bathtub. That's humiliating. This is a humiliating, embarrassing moment in your

00:21:15.840 life. Why would you intentionally document it and spread it online for others to see? If I ever

00:21:21.800 cried in a bathtub, if I ever took a bath at all, I would be embarrassed. But, uh, if I was crying in

00:21:28.980 a bathtub, um, I think the last thing I would ever want to do is tell everybody about it. It would be

00:21:36.560 a shameful moment that I would keep locked inside myself for my entire life, never to be spoken of

00:21:42.380 to anyone ever. So why are you putting your own embarrassing, eminently mockable moments online?

00:21:50.820 This is what people do on Tik TOK. It's sort of like a form of, of self cyber bullying. They're

00:21:55.760 cyber bullying themselves by putting this stuff out there. It's like if you peed your pants and then

00:22:02.700 immediately pulled out your phone and did a live stream. Hey guys. Uh, so just want to let you know,

00:22:07.260 I just peed my pants. Um, yeah, a lot of pee just all over the pants. Just pretty embarrassing.

00:22:12.320 Thought I should let you know. Okay. See you later. Bye. I don't, I don't understand the point. I don't

00:22:15.940 see why you would do that. Um, and, but we ask who would do this except to be funny? Well,

00:22:20.140 the answer is narcissists, narcissists who think that every moment of their lives needs to be out

00:22:25.920 there and observed by everyone who think that everything they do and everything they think

00:22:30.800 and say and feel is profound and important and worthy of attention, uh, who think that every moment

00:22:37.080 of their lives, every event is, is, is nothing more than an opportunity to gain more attention

00:22:42.860 for themselves. Those are the kinds of people who do this just total narcissists. And there are a lot

00:22:49.620 of those out there. And so there are a lot of these types of videos. Number six, uh, we'll do a bonus

00:22:54.000 number six here. Finally, bonus content. I want to show you a video made by some friends of ours.

00:22:58.320 Uh, I think this kind of shows you what we're up against. Check it out.

00:23:12.860 What are you looking for, man? This ain't a typical request. Look, bro, I can get whatever you need. Guns, drugs, women. You a gambling man? You like that hard stuff? You need somebody to go away? Look, you got cash? I'll make things happen.

00:23:37.000 Baby parts.

00:23:44.240 What'd you say? You heard me. Unborn human baby parts. 1.00

00:23:50.600 Sicko. I thought you can get anything. What'll it look like to you? Planned Parenthood? 0.95

00:23:55.820 You know, it's a joke, but it's, it's not at the same time. This is what Planned Parenthood does and

00:24:07.300 was caught doing. And yet half a billion dollars, half a billion dollars every year from the taxpayer.

00:24:15.760 And it does almost still shock me, almost, that these people were caught on tape.

00:24:25.140 And the tapes are still there. You can see them on YouTube.

00:24:27.660 Selling human body parts.

00:24:29.740 The body parts of babies on tape, laughing about it.

00:24:33.080 We saw these videos. Not deceptively edited, by the way.

00:24:36.160 That's a myth. That's a lie.

00:24:37.900 Planned Parenthood did their own forensic analysis of those tapes

00:24:41.260 that were done by Dave DeLydon and the Center for Medical Progress.

00:24:44.360 And they themselves admitted that they were not substantially edited

00:24:47.500 in any way that's manipulative or deceptive.

00:24:49.840 They admitted that in their own report. Go look that up, too.

00:24:53.480 And so this is all on tape. And yet, nobody talks about it anymore.

00:24:56.600 Like, it never happened.

00:24:58.440 And still, the half a billion dollars

00:25:00.240 keeps funneling every year

00:25:02.600 from your pockets

00:25:04.300 into theirs.

00:25:06.680 With no sign of stopping.

00:25:08.120 If it didn't stop with a Democrat,

00:25:09.700 or rather, a Republican Congress

00:25:11.640 and a Republican President,

00:25:12.960 it's not ever going to stop.

00:25:15.120 Okay, let's get to our daily cancellation.

00:25:17.320 Today, for our daily cancellation,

00:25:18.600 I fear I may have trouble

00:25:20.360 containing my emotions

00:25:21.680 as we discuss this topic.

00:25:24.620 This is the kind of thing

00:25:25.540 I might cry in a bathtub over

00:25:27.100 because I have to cancel beard shamers.

00:25:30.500 Somehow, in the year 2020,

00:25:32.200 beard shaming still exists.

00:25:34.300 Anti-beard bigotry is real.

00:25:36.380 It's serious.

00:25:36.820 It's perhaps the greatest human rights crisis

00:25:39.920 of our time, you could argue.

00:25:41.880 Jack Dorsey, the supreme leader of Twitter,

00:25:43.760 was questioned by a Senate committee yesterday,

00:25:46.380 along with Mark Zuckerberg,

00:25:47.860 other tech CEOs,

00:25:49.260 over their censorship of content

00:25:50.620 on their platforms.

00:25:51.840 Now, I was planning to talk about

00:25:53.220 the hearing itself,

00:25:54.340 maybe do a cancellation of Jack Dorsey,

00:25:57.140 though that does seem unnecessary

00:25:58.580 after Ted Cruz had his way with him.

00:26:01.260 Let's listen to a little bit of that.

00:26:02.640 Today, I want to focus my questioning

00:26:06.100 on Mr. Dorsey and on Twitter.

00:26:09.500 Because of the three players before us,

00:26:11.480 I think Twitter's conduct

00:26:12.600 has by far been the most egregious.

00:26:17.300 Mr. Dorsey,

00:26:19.420 does Twitter have the ability

00:26:21.500 to influence elections?

00:26:23.980 No.

00:26:24.660 You don't believe Twitter

00:26:28.520 has any ability

00:26:29.380 to influence elections?

00:26:31.240 No.

00:26:31.620 We are one part of a spectrum

00:26:34.060 of communication channels

00:26:35.180 that people have.

00:26:36.260 So you're testified

00:26:37.260 to this committee right now

00:26:38.700 that Twitter,

00:26:39.960 when it silences people,

00:26:41.140 when it censors people,

00:26:42.080 when it blocks political speech,

00:26:43.560 that has no impact on elections?

00:26:46.200 People have choice

00:26:47.840 of other communication channels

00:26:49.320 with which...

00:26:49.760 Not if they don't hear information.

00:26:51.560 If you don't think you have the power

00:26:53.780 to influence elections,

00:26:55.100 why do you block anything?

00:26:58.240 Well, we have policies

00:26:59.380 that are focused

00:27:00.740 on making sure

00:27:01.540 that more voices

00:27:02.260 on the platform are possible.

00:27:04.000 We see a lot of abuse

00:27:04.920 and harassment,

00:27:05.660 which ends up silencing people

00:27:07.060 and having them leave

00:27:08.020 from the platform.

00:27:09.200 All right, Mr. Dorsey,

00:27:10.080 I find your opening questions,

00:27:11.840 your opening answers

00:27:12.840 absurd on their face. 0.75

00:27:14.700 Yeah, so Ted Cruz 0.93

00:27:15.520 kind of nails him

00:27:16.680 to the wall there,

00:27:17.360 which is nice to see.

00:27:19.000 None of this has anything

00:27:19.980 to do, by the way,

00:27:20.920 with the cancellation, really.

00:27:22.320 But I think it's interesting.

00:27:25.180 And so let's listen to...

00:27:26.600 So you heard that.

00:27:27.320 Let's listen to the next line

00:27:28.420 of questioning anyway,

00:27:29.700 and then we'll get

00:27:30.240 to the daily cancellation.

00:27:31.860 Why did Twitter

00:27:32.740 make the decision

00:27:33.620 to censor the New York Post?

00:27:36.360 We had a hack materials policy.

00:27:40.040 When was that policy adopted?

00:27:42.540 In 2018, I believe.

00:27:44.620 In 2018.

00:27:45.400 Go ahead.

00:27:45.640 What was the policy?

00:27:46.880 So the policy is around

00:27:48.840 limiting the spread

00:27:50.600 of materials that are hacked.

00:27:54.040 We didn't want Twitter

00:27:55.420 to be a distributor

00:27:56.380 for hacked materials.

00:27:58.120 We found that the New York Post,

00:28:00.900 because it showed

00:28:03.000 the direct materials,

00:28:04.860 screenshots of the direct materials,

00:28:07.040 and it was unclear

00:28:08.060 how those were attained,

00:28:10.040 that it felt under this policy.

00:28:13.200 Now...

00:28:13.500 So in your view,

00:28:14.600 if it's unclear

00:28:15.520 the source of a document,

00:28:17.660 and in this instance,

00:28:18.380 the New York Post

00:28:19.180 documented what it said

00:28:21.140 the source was,

00:28:22.020 which it said

00:28:22.540 it was a laptop

00:28:23.840 owned by Hunter Biden

00:28:25.040 that had been turned

00:28:25.620 into a repair store.

00:28:27.940 So they weren't hiding

00:28:29.200 what they claimed

00:28:29.860 to be the source.

00:28:31.980 Is it your position

00:28:33.420 that Twitter,

00:28:33.960 when you can't tell

00:28:34.560 the source,

00:28:35.100 blocks press stories?

00:28:37.500 No, not at all.

00:28:39.520 Our team made a fast decision.

00:28:42.460 The enforcement action,

00:28:44.100 however,

00:28:44.780 of blocking URLs,

00:28:46.200 both in tweets

00:28:47.120 and in DM,

00:28:49.380 in direct messages,

00:28:50.660 we believe was incorrect,

00:28:52.040 and we changed it.

00:28:53.420 Today,

00:28:54.300 the New York Post

00:28:55.840 is still blocked

00:28:56.640 from tweeting

00:28:57.200 two weeks later.

00:28:59.320 Yes,

00:28:59.800 they have to log

00:29:00.480 into their account,

00:29:01.160 which they can do

00:29:01.840 at this minute,

00:29:03.040 delete the original tweet,

00:29:04.860 which fell under

00:29:05.660 our original enforcement actions,

00:29:07.700 and they can tweet

00:29:08.460 the exact same material

00:29:09.700 and the exact same article,

00:29:11.140 and it would go through...

00:29:12.180 Right,

00:29:12.440 well,

00:29:12.580 that's nonsense,

00:29:13.500 of course.

00:29:14.320 The New York Post

00:29:15.000 was still blocked for days,

00:29:16.700 even though the reason

00:29:17.920 for the block

00:29:18.600 was admitted to be wrong,

00:29:20.400 but rather than just

00:29:21.140 let them back on the platform,

00:29:22.440 Twitter wanted them

00:29:22.980 to delete the tweet,

00:29:24.000 which there was nothing wrong with,

00:29:25.840 and didn't violate any rules,

00:29:26.960 and then post it again.

00:29:29.100 None of this makes any sense.

00:29:30.740 It's also quite beside the point,

00:29:32.880 because I'm not focused

00:29:34.100 on issues like censorship,

00:29:35.780 the First Amendment,

00:29:36.540 monopolies,

00:29:37.220 big tech manipulation

00:29:38.080 of the public discourse,

00:29:39.280 or anything like that.

00:29:41.280 To me,

00:29:41.680 the big issue here

00:29:42.520 is the beard

00:29:43.320 that Jack Dorsey

00:29:45.020 was sporting

00:29:45.580 in that video.

00:29:47.020 It was a long,

00:29:48.300 bold,

00:29:49.580 elaborate,

00:29:50.840 extensive beard,

00:29:52.060 a beard that

00:29:52.720 is not ashamed of itself,

00:29:54.040 not ashamed to announce

00:29:55.060 itself to the world,

00:29:56.340 and though I don't

00:29:56.940 like anything else

00:29:57.820 about Jack Dorsey,

00:29:58.820 I respect that beard,

00:30:00.960 as I respect all beards.

00:30:02.880 The same cannot be said

00:30:04.420 for much of social media,

00:30:05.520 which spent yesterday

00:30:06.460 mocking Dorsey

00:30:07.920 for his beard,

00:30:08.860 saying the most hateful

00:30:10.240 and bigoted

00:30:11.300 and frankly,

00:30:12.200 hurtful things.

00:30:14.000 And yes,

00:30:14.400 it's true

00:30:14.780 that if you wanted to,

00:30:15.720 you could make an argument

00:30:16.800 that Dorsey 0.65

00:30:17.440 looks like a homeless wizard,

00:30:19.300 or bin Laden's

00:30:20.720 albino cousin,

00:30:21.800 or an out-of-work pirate,

00:30:23.640 or a down-on-his-luck

00:30:25.020 Old Testament prophet,

00:30:26.600 or the decayed remains

00:30:28.320 of a Civil War general,

00:30:29.540 or Tom Hanks

00:30:30.340 if he'd stayed on the island

00:30:31.220 for another 45 years.

00:30:32.680 You could make

00:30:33.240 all those arguments.

00:30:34.240 You could say all of that

00:30:35.140 if you wanted to,

00:30:35.820 and many people have.

00:30:36.720 I will not say

00:30:37.720 any of that, though,

00:30:38.960 because I do not

00:30:40.220 condone such insults.

00:30:42.020 Because a man

00:30:42.860 has a constitutional right

00:30:44.760 to grow a beard.

00:30:46.300 And any who exercise

00:30:47.560 that right

00:30:48.160 ought to be congratulated

00:30:49.440 for that noble undertaking.

00:30:52.180 You want to make fun

00:30:53.080 of Jack Dorsey

00:30:53.760 for the nose ring?

00:30:54.760 The nose ring

00:30:55.300 he was also wearing?

00:30:56.440 Absolutely, that's fine.

00:30:57.420 Indeed,

00:30:57.820 it is your duty

00:30:58.560 as an American

00:30:59.300 to make fun of men

00:31:00.220 who wear nose rings.

00:31:01.700 But,

00:31:02.540 the beard is off-limits.

00:31:03.980 A man's beard 0.90

00:31:04.780 is an outward expression

00:31:06.240 of the masculine light

00:31:08.400 within him.

00:31:09.600 Each follicle

00:31:10.340 as it sprouts forth

00:31:12.080 and reaches for the sunlight

00:31:13.320 deserves to be loved

00:31:14.500 and celebrated

00:31:15.180 for its own sake.

00:31:17.040 If you wish

00:31:17.500 to shame a man

00:31:18.300 for something beard-related,

00:31:20.340 shame him

00:31:20.780 for not having one.

00:31:22.220 Shame him

00:31:22.620 for being a grown man 0.70

00:31:23.760 with a schoolboy's chin.

00:31:25.720 Beardless men 0.99

00:31:26.540 are absurd, 1.00

00:31:27.540 ridiculous. 0.99

00:31:28.400 When I see beardless men, 1.00

00:31:29.660 I react much like

00:31:30.480 I react to the sight

00:31:31.260 of a three-legged dog.

00:31:32.740 I sort of gawk

00:31:33.640 and stifle laughter,

00:31:34.800 but then,

00:31:35.480 also I feel pity

00:31:36.340 for this poor,

00:31:37.340 wretched, 0.99

00:31:37.760 deficient, 1.00

00:31:39.240 embarrassing thing.

00:31:40.780 And yet,

00:31:41.200 many beardless men

00:31:41.980 have testified

00:31:42.540 before Senate committees

00:31:43.540 without a word of mockery.

00:31:44.720 Even yesterday,

00:31:45.480 Mark Zuckerberg,

00:31:46.200 with the smooth face

00:31:47.100 of a large infant,

00:31:48.260 testified.

00:31:49.320 And not one person

00:31:50.220 pointed and laughed at him.

00:31:51.820 This is all backwards.

00:31:53.980 As always,

00:31:54.840 my problem is not

00:31:55.760 that we are mocking people,

00:31:56.980 but that we're mocking

00:31:57.620 the wrong people

00:31:58.600 for the wrong reasons.

00:32:00.600 And it is this

00:32:01.440 upside-down

00:32:02.120 and backwards way

00:32:02.840 of thinking

00:32:03.140 that has led,

00:32:04.060 you could argue,

00:32:04.880 to many of the worst tragedies

00:32:06.440 in recent history.

00:32:07.760 I want you to think about this.

00:32:08.800 It has been over a century

00:32:10.780 since we have had

00:32:11.580 a president

00:32:12.140 with facial hair.

00:32:13.880 Even longer

00:32:14.440 since a full beard

00:32:15.640 has been in the White House.

00:32:17.100 In the interim,

00:32:18.840 there have been

00:32:19.240 two world wars,

00:32:20.160 a cold war,

00:32:20.740 a depression,

00:32:21.320 multiple recessions,

00:32:22.220 multiple pandemics,

00:32:23.600 thousands of plane crashes.

00:32:25.500 What is this?

00:32:25.960 A coincidence?

00:32:27.720 We stop electing bearded men 0.99

00:32:29.840 and suddenly the world explodes

00:32:31.060 and you don't see a connection?

00:32:33.120 Give me a break. 1.00

00:32:34.400 Don't be ridiculous. 0.99

00:32:36.180 Our anti-beard bias 0.99

00:32:37.800 is literally killing people.

00:32:40.360 How many more have to die?

00:32:41.520 You ask yourself that question.

00:32:43.360 In the meantime,
