00:00:00.000 Today on the Matt Wall Show, a report about rampant child porn on Pornhub has prompted
00:00:04.280 the site to make, quote, major changes, but the changes don't go nearly far enough.
00:00:09.080 Also, five headlines, including Eric Swalwell's ties to a Chinese spy and dozens of shoppers
00:00:14.160 camp out in a Walmart parking lot to buy a new video game console.
00:00:18.020 Why is that OK during a pandemic, but you still can't visit your grandparents for Christmas
00:00:21.660 or Thanksgiving?
00:00:22.700 And our daily cancellation, we will cancel a school board that voted to remove Thomas
00:00:26.840 Jefferson's name from their elementary school.
00:00:29.220 So the reasons they give, I mean, you know that they're going to be bad reasons.
00:00:32.960 These are truly, deeply insane reasons.
00:00:35.420 All of that and more today on the Matt Wall Show.
00:00:45.300 Before we get started today, you know, if you're on the Internet, which you are right now, probably,
00:00:52.040 and I'm sure you spend a lot of time on it, as we all do, you need a VPN to protect yourself.
00:00:56.660 Everybody, absolutely everybody needs a VPN.
00:00:59.780 I mean, does it make sense to you that the same company who controls half of online retail
00:01:04.020 also eavesdrops passively on your private conversations at home?
00:01:08.380 What about the idea that a single company controls 90% of Internet searches, runs your
00:01:12.360 email service, gets to track everything you do on a smartphone?
00:01:16.720 Big tech is, in fact, is more powerful than most countries are.
00:01:20.160 And they profit, the way that they get so powerful is by exploiting your personal data.
00:01:26.000 It's, I think it's time to put a layer of protection.
00:01:28.300 It's way past that.
00:01:29.180 Put a layer of protection between your online activity and these tech juggernauts.
00:01:32.920 And that's why I personally use ExpressVPN.
00:01:35.500 And you should too.
00:01:36.660 Think about how much of your life is on the Internet.
00:01:38.800 You know, how much of your life you willingly, how much of your personal information you've
00:01:43.500 willingly given over to the Internet, and then how much the Internet has helped itself to
00:01:47.560 and taken.
00:01:48.340 It's just, it's a lot.
00:01:49.980 But when you run ExpressVPN on your device, the software hides your IP address.
00:01:54.440 Something big tech can use to personally identify you.
00:01:57.340 So ExpressVPN makes your activity harder to trace and harder to sell to advertisers.
00:02:01.660 And again, it gives you that layer of protection that you need and you deserve.
00:02:04.680 And ExpressVPN does all of this without showing your connection.
00:02:08.420 That's why it's rated the number one VPN, or rather, without slowing your connection.
00:02:11.620 So it's not going to slow everything down.
00:02:12.960 Some VPNs will.
00:02:14.920 The ExpressVPN doesn't do that.
00:02:16.600 And that's why it's rated the number one VPN service by CNET and Wired.
00:02:20.540 What I like most about ExpressVPN is that it's very easy to use.
00:02:23.740 If it was hard to use, I wouldn't be able to do it.
00:02:25.420 The fact that I use it means that you can do it and you should do it.
00:02:29.420 So stop handing your personal data over to these big tech monopolies that mine your activity
00:02:34.460 and sell your information.
00:02:35.480 Protect yourself with the VPN I trust.
00:02:38.060 Keep me safe online.
00:02:39.080 Visit ExpressVPN.com slash Walsh.
00:02:41.740 That's E-X-P-R-E-S-S-V-P-N dot com slash Walsh to get three extra months free.
00:02:47.920 Again, that's ExpressVPN.com slash Walsh.
00:02:51.000 Go there now to learn more.
00:02:53.180 The New York Times committed a shocking act of actual journalism this week when
00:02:57.580 they published a lengthy op-ed titled The Children of Pornhub.
00:03:01.460 Columnist Nicholas Kristof calls attention to an issue that earlier in the year was the
00:03:06.320 subject of a petition that amassed nearly half a million signatures, namely that the behemoth
00:03:11.180 smut site traffics in child pornography, rape videos, and other forms of abuse.
00:03:18.000 And then, of course, films and uploads them for public viewing.
00:03:22.680 Kristof writes, quote, 0.79
00:03:23.800 Now, Pornhub is infested with rape videos. 0.99
00:03:26.760 It monetizes child rapes, revenge pornography, spy cam videos of women showering, racist and 0.99
00:03:32.180 misogynistic content, footage of women being asphyxiated in plastic bags. 0.97
00:03:36.880 A search for, quote,
00:03:38.340 girls under 18, no space, or 14YO, which is 14 years old, leads in each case to more than
00:03:44.860 100,000 videos.
00:03:46.560 Most aren't of children being assaulted, but too many are.
00:03:49.520 Now, we should emphasize that even if a preponderance of the videos found using these search terms
00:03:56.140 do not actually depict children being raped, a sizable portion do depict it, as he mentions.
00:04:02.120 And also, almost as troubling, a significant portion of the non-rape videos found through
00:04:08.500 these search keys are still meant to appeal to people who want to see children being raped.
00:04:14.060 The point is that even the videos on the platform that do not involve child abuse or rape
00:04:19.140 may still desensitize the viewer to child abuse and rape, and intentionally so.
00:04:24.460 Pornhub itself proudly tells us that one of its most popular categories is teen.
00:04:30.120 Okay, are we supposed to believe that the grown men huddled around their computers in darkened rooms
00:04:34.060 looking for videos of teens are really hoping only to see 18 and 19-year-olds? 0.70
00:04:39.600 No, they want to see young women or girls disrobe and perform sexually for their enjoyment. 0.92
00:04:43.580 Their concern about the actual ages of the people on the screen extends only so far as providing
00:04:48.200 them plausible deniability should the FBI come knocking.
00:04:51.840 Terms like teen and barely legal are workarounds, you know, sort of a wink between Pornhub and
00:04:58.280 its users.
00:04:59.480 The site feeds an appetite for illegal porn, even with its legal porn.
00:05:04.080 But that shouldn't distract from the fact that there is a lot of the straight-up illegal
00:05:07.760 stuff on the platform, and there are very real victims to tell the tale.
00:05:11.980 Here's a little more from Kristoff.
00:05:13.040 He says, Pornhub, quoting now from a woman named Callie, Pornhub became my trafficker.
00:05:19.440 She says she was adopted in the United States from China and then trafficked by her adoptive
00:05:23.020 family and forced to appear in pornographic videos beginning when she was nine.
00:05:26.840 Some videos of her being abused ended up on Pornhub and regularly reappear there, she said.
00:05:32.340 Callie said, I'm still getting sold, even though I'm five years out of that life.
00:05:35.660 Now 23, she is studying in a university, hoping to become a lawyer, but those old videos
00:05:40.880 hang over her.
00:05:42.060 I may never be able to get away from this, she said. 0.97
00:05:44.760 I may be 40 with kids, with eight kids, and people are still masturbating to my photos. 0.93
00:05:49.320 You type young Asian and you can probably find me, she added.
00:05:53.580 Kristoff then notes that a search for young Asian returns tens of thousands of videos along
00:05:58.860 with related search suggestions, such as young tiny teen and also young girl.
00:06:04.040 There's a whole channel called Exploited Teen Asia.
00:06:08.260 Now I suppose we're meant to believe that the people looking for young girls and young 0.75
00:06:13.460 tiny teens or clicking on video compilations with titles like screaming teen, degraded teen,
00:06:19.700 extreme choking, all examples mentioned in the article, are really only interested in seeing
00:06:24.960 sober, willing adults engaged in consensual sexual relations.
00:06:29.460 And we're further supposed to believe that the users uploading this content with these
00:06:34.040 sorts of titles are only providing that sort of legal and above-the-board content.
00:06:38.120 But anybody who really buys that claim must have already had their brain melted by porn over
00:06:43.820 consumption.
00:06:44.920 The fact is clear.
00:06:46.600 Pornhub makes untold millions monetizing child porn and rape videos, and it's not an accident.
00:06:53.120 There is a huge market for this stuff, and Pornhub serves that market.
00:06:57.560 But a funny thing happened after the Times piece was published.
00:07:02.920 In the immediate aftermath, a spokesman for the company sent a statement to the National
00:07:07.240 Review indignantly denying that they had any serious problem with rape and abuse videos
00:07:13.180 on their platform.
00:07:14.120 The statement said in part, quote,
00:07:15.520 They also claim to manually review every video posted to the site, a claim that itself must
00:07:42.120 certainly be flagrantly untrue, as Pornhub also boasts proudly that users uploaded nearly
00:07:47.620 three hours of porn per minute last year.
00:07:52.200 But only a day later, Pornhub changed its tune rather dramatically.
00:07:57.220 Perhaps having something to do with the fact that MasterCard and Visa said they'd be, quote,
00:08:01.380 reviewing their relationship with the filth peddlers, the company announced suddenly that
00:08:06.460 it would be taking major steps, quote, unquote, to, quote, protect our community.
00:08:11.540 I thought they were already doing an excellent job in that regard, according to their own
00:08:14.860 statement not but 24 hours earlier.
00:08:16.860 How can you take major steps to better do something that you're already doing nearly
00:08:21.320 perfectly?
00:08:21.860 These major steps include limiting uploads to verified users only, prohibiting most downloads
00:08:28.800 from the site, and also expanding moderation of the content.
00:08:33.000 Again, it's hard to understand how they could expand their moderation if they were already
00:08:37.720 manually reviewing something like 1.5 million hours of pornography a year.
00:08:44.620 The conflicting messaging, though, only makes sense when you remember that this is a multi-billion
00:08:51.000 dollar company that makes its billions, distributing videos with titles like Young Tiny Teen and
00:08:56.120 Extreme Choking, a company that will let you search for porn using a search term like 14-year-old.
00:09:03.320 In other words, they have no ethical standards of any kind whatsoever, and nothing they say
00:09:09.060 can be remotely trusted.
00:09:11.360 Their statements and commitments and declarations of how seriously they want to protect rape victims,
00:09:15.520 et cetera, mean nothing.
00:09:17.120 After all, if they really cared about protecting victims, they would just shut down operations
00:09:22.040 entirely.
00:09:23.840 A porn distributor claiming a commitment to combating sex trafficking is about as credible
00:09:29.060 as all the tobacco companies now saying that they want to help rid the world of nicotine
00:09:32.940 addiction.
00:09:34.100 This is the script they have to read, but it cannot possibly be true.
00:09:39.160 Their very existence testifies to the falsehood of their claims.
00:09:42.460 Besides, the measures from Pornhub are laughably insufficient, even if they're actually adopted,
00:09:48.920 which they won't be.
00:09:50.900 What's to stop a verified user from uploading a video of an underage person or someone who's
00:09:56.460 been sex trafficked or somebody who's unconscious or not consenting?
00:10:01.940 The verified user gambit is also especially unconvincing because the bar for verification is low.
00:10:08.820 As the website fight the new drug notes, all a person has to do to get verified on Pornhub
00:10:13.760 is upload a photo of themselves with their or a photo of someone with their Pornhub
00:10:19.240 username and Pornhub's website written on a piece of paper or their body.
00:10:23.940 There's no attempt to verify age, much less that of all the performers, quote unquote,
00:10:28.980 in the video in the videos themselves.
00:10:32.040 This is just verifying something, really verifying nothing about the person uploading
00:10:36.360 the video. It doesn't tell you anything about the people in the video.
00:10:41.300 While the efforts to protect the people in the videos is virtually non-existent,
00:10:46.420 the efforts to protect the people watching the videos are literally non-existent.
00:10:52.600 Pornhub makes no attempt to prevent children from accessing the hardcore filth on its platform.
00:10:59.020 No attempt at all. They don't do anything.
00:11:01.620 To visit Budweiser.com, you could try this yourself, you at least have to enter your date of birth.
00:11:08.820 If you want to go to the official Camel Cigarette website, you need to register for an account.
00:11:14.040 To sign up for a Bitcoin exchange like Bitfinex, a user has to provide their address, phone number,
00:11:20.680 email, and two forms of government-issued identification.
00:11:23.240 Now, surveying the options on the spectrum between the symbolic age verification of a beer company's website
00:11:31.200 to the serious verification process of a crypto exchange,
00:11:35.760 Pornhub elects to do precisely nothing.
00:11:38.420 They don't choose anything.
00:11:40.220 They don't even do the symbolic attempt.
00:11:43.200 Any random eight-year-old can go to its URL and watch gangbang videos
00:11:47.580 without having to jump through any hoops at all.
00:11:50.500 This gives you an idea of how serious Pornhub is about protecting anyone, least of all children.
00:11:57.060 And this is why we have to stop relying on the integrity and good hearts of executives at porn sites,
00:12:04.280 trusting them to make good on their word, to self-regulate.
00:12:08.460 We should force the issue, just like we do with all the regulations imposed on the alcohol and tobacco industry.
00:12:16.080 People don't normally complain about that.
00:12:17.860 I rarely hear anyone complain that an 11-year-old can't walk to 7-Eleven and buy a pack of cigarettes.
00:12:26.000 Nobody complains that this is a nanny state or an intrusion or anything like that.
00:12:31.620 Now, I confess I would be in favor of simply burning the porn industry to the ground,
00:12:36.540 salting the earth with its ashes.
00:12:38.220 But in lieu of that, Pornhub and all sites like it should be legally required to verify the ages of all users,
00:12:45.800 at a minimum, those uploading content and those viewing the content.
00:12:51.220 If you want to buy a porn magazine from a gas station, if that's even so possible anymore,
00:12:56.180 you have to show ID.
00:12:57.160 There is no reason why you shouldn't have to show one online.
00:13:02.640 And don't tell me about, oh, it's the parent's job.
00:13:05.440 Okay, yeah, the parent should be doing more to protect their own kids.
00:13:08.540 But again, if a nine-year-old walks up with a Hustler magazine to buy a, you know,
00:13:14.460 to the cashier at a gas station,
00:13:16.940 would you be okay with the cashier just selling it to him on the basis that,
00:13:20.920 well, his parents aren't doing anything about it?
00:13:22.920 Might as well just make a buck.
00:13:24.380 Now, there should be at least the same level of scrutiny placed on Pornhub as there is on gas stations.
00:13:34.620 Now, it's true.
00:13:35.660 Such a requirement may destroy Pornhub,
00:13:38.680 as most of its users would be too ashamed and freaked out to give their ID to a porn site.
00:13:44.220 That is a risk that I am more than happy to take.
00:13:47.740 Now, the government could go even further and should,
00:13:49.880 as Terry Schilling outlines in his excellent First Things essay published,
00:13:52.920 I think earlier in the year.
00:13:54.560 You should check it out.
00:13:56.060 He talks about what we could do to regulate porn.
00:13:57.660 He says we could have zoning laws requiring porn sites to move to a .xx domain
00:14:01.860 where age verification would be needed to access it.
00:14:04.700 More aggressively, Congress could amend Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act,
00:14:09.120 getting rid of the blanket immunity enjoyed by big tech companies
00:14:12.340 and holding them liable for the content posted on their platforms.
00:14:16.420 This would mean that a sex trafficking or revenge porn victim could sue Pornhub
00:14:21.620 for hosting and monetizing the footage of their abuse.
00:14:24.840 Why shouldn't they be able to sue? 0.88
00:14:27.960 If it doesn't seem possible for a massive, multi-billion dollar porn platform
00:14:33.800 to really regulate its content and guard against child porn and rape porn,
00:14:39.020 that might be a sign that massive, multi-billion dollar porn platforms 0.63
00:14:44.080 shouldn't exist.
00:14:47.640 The only real downside to regulating porn companies, as far as I can see it,
00:14:52.160 is that it might make porn executives a little less rich,
00:14:55.480 and it might cause some mild inconveniences for Internet users
00:14:59.800 who want to watch other people having sex.
00:15:01.660 These are trade-offs that I think a society can live with.
00:15:06.360 Indeed, trade-offs that we should embrace enthusiastically
00:15:08.540 in exchange for offering at least some protection
00:15:11.720 to the porn industry's many victims on both sides of the camera.
00:15:19.180 And it's as simple as that, as far as I'm concerned.
00:15:22.300 Now let's get to our five headlines.
00:15:24.400 All right, now we get to our five headlines as we pull it up here.
00:15:35.720 I got a bunch of clips to play today, but before we get to any of those,
00:15:39.720 here's a report from The Daily Wire.
00:15:42.020 Representative Eric Swalwell sits on the sensitive House Intelligence Committee,
00:15:47.460 said in response to an explosive story about ties to a suspected Chinese spy
00:15:51.180 that, quote, congressional leaders knew about it, they knew about the matter,
00:15:56.380 and implied that they apparently did not think that it was a big enough issue
00:15:59.100 to keep them off the Intelligence Committee.
00:16:01.100 The alleged spy Chinese national Christine Feng, quote,
00:16:05.180 targeted up-and-coming local politicians in the Bay Area and across the country
00:16:09.420 who had the potential to make it big on the national stage
00:16:11.480 through campaign fundraising, extensive networking, personal charisma,
00:16:16.180 and romantic or sexual relationships.
00:16:18.300 This according to a report from Axios.
00:16:19.780 Even though U.S. officials do not believe Feng received
00:16:22.780 or passed on classified information, the case was a big deal
00:16:25.820 because there were some really, really sensitive people
00:16:27.940 that were caught up in the intelligence network,
00:16:29.980 according to a current senior U.S. intelligence official.
00:16:33.280 Yeah, I would say it's a big deal.
00:16:34.860 I would call that a big deal.
00:16:38.440 When you've got a congressman who was potentially involved with a Chinese spy,
00:16:43.180 this again, you know, we find this pattern playing out
00:16:46.120 where the people who were accusing the Trump campaign of this sort of thing
00:16:52.980 with relation to China were actually doing it themselves.
00:16:56.820 We see this over and over again.
00:16:59.280 Yet another guy who was railing about Donald Trump and Russia
00:17:05.760 and his supposed ties to Russian espionage.
00:17:11.520 That whole time, he's got this, some sort of acquaintance with a Chinese spy.
00:17:18.920 That, of course, is a big story.
00:17:22.340 Big, big, big, should be big blowback for Eric Swalwell at a minimum.
00:17:26.440 I still don't think it's as big of a story as Eric Swalwell farting on camera
00:17:32.300 during the MSNBC interview.
00:17:34.560 That, to me, is, well, here's what I'll say.
00:17:37.580 That is what will still ultimately define him, and I'm glad for that.
00:17:41.820 That's not as big of a scandal, but I'm happy for the fact 0.85
00:17:45.340 that this just absolute, mediocre, unimpressive, empty, nothing of a man 0.92
00:17:51.820 will ultimately be defined by the fact that he farted on camera.
00:17:56.420 That's all his entire public life will come down to.
00:17:59.920 And I really, I hope it's more that than the Chinese spy thing.
00:18:05.200 Okay, Biden, so Biden's got his COVID task force together.
00:18:10.160 And I want to play some of this.
00:18:11.380 Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith.
00:18:15.280 She's one of the people on the Biden COVID task force.
00:18:18.500 And she's found, and we're going to get a lot of this
00:18:21.820 from the potential Biden administration.
00:18:26.100 We're going to get a lot of, of course, racializing everything,
00:18:29.600 like the left always does.
00:18:30.740 She's found a way to racialize the COVID pandemic
00:18:33.260 in identifying what she calls a racial grief gap.
00:18:37.860 You've heard of the wage gap.
00:18:39.720 Well, here is the grief gap.
00:18:41.640 Listen.
00:18:42.760 It is not a coincidence, and it is not a matter of genetics,
00:18:46.360 that more than 70% of African Americans
00:18:50.120 and more than 60% of Latinx Americans
00:18:54.160 personally know someone who has been hospitalized
00:18:57.780 or died from COVID-19.
00:19:01.920 The same disparities ingrained in our economy,
00:19:05.780 our housing system, our food system, our justice system,
00:19:09.140 and so many other areas of our society
00:19:12.040 have conspired in this moment
00:19:15.000 to create a grief gap that we cannot ignore.
00:19:19.600 Yeah, she says it's not, it's not a coincidence.
00:19:21.920 I mean, you're right.
00:19:22.560 It's not a coincidence.
00:19:23.640 There's a reason behind it.
00:19:25.020 As we hear about how, you know,
00:19:26.840 racial minorities are disproportionately
00:19:29.140 affected by COVID and infected by the virus.
00:19:35.140 The reason is that racial minorities 1.00
00:19:38.720 are disproportionately live in cities.
00:19:41.700 And so that's the reason.
00:19:44.000 And when you live in a city
00:19:45.680 and there's a large population, condensed population,
00:19:50.300 population density is high,
00:19:52.300 you're going to have more spread of a virus.
00:19:55.440 That's the reason.
00:19:56.080 There's no nefarious racism behind it.
00:19:58.800 I'm not even sure.
00:19:59.660 You know, you hear this implied from people
00:20:02.540 like Dr. Marcella here implying
00:20:05.980 that there's racism behind it,
00:20:07.840 that, you know, more, more black people are getting,
00:20:10.360 a disproportionate number of black people 0.91
00:20:11.780 are getting COVID. 0.98
00:20:12.960 Oh, it's, it's racist.
00:20:14.320 She never explains how, how exactly is it racist?
00:20:18.560 What, what, what exactly are you implying?
00:20:21.260 She never gets there.
00:20:22.340 She just throws it out.
00:20:23.360 And of course we get the Latinx thing too.
00:20:26.940 That, that is another thing
00:20:28.480 with a potential Biden administration.
00:20:30.260 We have to get ready for that,
00:20:32.480 that we're going to hear this Latinx thing
00:20:34.460 from bureaucrats in the federal government all the time.
00:20:39.980 Now, of course you talk to any Latino person
00:20:43.200 or most of them.
00:20:44.920 And I, and I have asked, I mean, this is,
00:20:46.960 I put a poll out on Twitter recently
00:20:48.500 asking any, um, any Hispanic followers of mine,
00:20:52.300 how they feel about this Latinx thing.
00:20:55.100 And what you find unsurprisingly,
00:20:56.640 it's almost all just white liberals
00:20:58.340 or non-white liberals in this case
00:21:00.140 who are doing Latinx.
00:21:03.820 And also, by the way,
00:21:05.360 it should be pronounced Latinx.
00:21:07.640 So first of all, can we decide,
00:21:09.120 is it Latinx or Latinx? 0.99
00:21:11.540 But either way, it's utterly ridiculous. 0.98
00:21:14.620 These are non-Hispanic liberals 0.99
00:21:17.640 trying to impose this change
00:21:20.520 on the Hispanic community.
00:21:22.160 And the Hispanic community, for the most part,
00:21:24.020 says, what?
00:21:25.080 No.
00:21:27.160 By the way, if you really,
00:21:28.500 if for some reason Latino or Latina
00:21:30.980 offends you or upsets you,
00:21:33.600 what's wrong with just saying Latin?
00:21:35.600 What do you even need the X for?
00:21:39.220 Of course, I'm trying to make sense of something
00:21:40.640 that is nonsensical.
00:21:42.940 So maybe there's no point in doing that.
00:21:45.100 Now we got Bill Nye here.
00:21:46.360 Bill Nye is begging for attention again.
00:21:49.220 Probably we shouldn't give it to him.
00:21:51.720 But here we are.
00:21:53.100 And here's the video.
00:21:54.260 Let's watch.
00:21:55.080 Here's a map of the United States.
00:21:56.780 The red ink shows where people are wearing masks.
00:22:00.380 The black ink shows where people are
00:22:03.180 getting sick with coronavirus.
00:22:05.600 I hope you can see the fewer the masks,
00:22:07.680 the more the sick.
00:22:08.940 And there's a perception that a virus
00:22:11.020 can travel through the fibers of a mask
00:22:13.560 like this red dot.
00:22:14.880 Because viruses don't travel by themselves.
00:22:16.800 They travel in little droplets of spit and snot.
00:22:21.100 And the fibers are a tangle.
00:22:23.160 So when the droplet gets into the fibers of a mask,
00:22:26.340 it gets trapped.
00:22:27.980 This is not that hard to understand, everybody.
00:22:30.460 That's why we have rules about wearing a mask.
00:22:33.640 Now you know about rules.
00:22:35.220 You pay taxes on the whole road,
00:22:37.560 but you only get to drive on one side at a time.
00:22:40.280 Otherwise...
00:22:40.800 So everyone, please wear a mask.
00:22:45.060 Thank you.
00:22:46.760 Every time we see Bill Nye,
00:22:48.020 we have to remember
00:22:48.660 that he goes by the science guy
00:22:51.740 for a reason.
00:22:53.420 It's not just that it rhymes with Nye.
00:22:56.200 It's because he's not a scientist.
00:22:59.480 So that's...
00:23:00.000 Anyone can call themselves a...
00:23:01.240 I'm Matt Walsh, the science guy.
00:23:03.420 Anyone can call yourself that.
00:23:04.840 Sure.
00:23:05.600 I like science too.
00:23:06.480 I'm a science guy.
00:23:09.900 So he's not a scientist.
00:23:11.460 He's a science guy,
00:23:12.340 which means nothing at all.
00:23:13.220 But I keep...
00:23:15.980 You keep hearing this claim
00:23:17.780 from people like Bill Nye,
00:23:19.680 everybody else on the left,
00:23:21.200 Democrats.
00:23:22.120 We keep hearing this claim that,
00:23:23.620 you know,
00:23:24.220 we've got the new surge
00:23:26.040 because people aren't wearing the masks.
00:23:29.080 And that's why the virus is surging again.
00:23:31.780 Where is that the case?
00:23:34.360 Because everywhere I go,
00:23:36.840 I mean, this is all anecdotal,
00:23:38.300 but everyone must be just be basing this
00:23:39.700 on anecdotal evidence.
00:23:40.540 So my own anecdotal experience,
00:23:44.020 almost everywhere I go,
00:23:45.000 people are wearing the masks.
00:23:46.580 Certainly a large,
00:23:47.800 a large, large number of people
00:23:49.420 are wearing the masks.
00:23:51.160 Red states, blue states.
00:23:53.160 I have traveled quite a bit
00:23:54.580 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
00:23:56.980 Forgive me.
00:23:57.420 I have.
00:23:58.040 And everywhere I've gone,
00:24:00.100 people wearing the masks.
00:24:02.580 It's actually shocking
00:24:04.180 how many people wear them
00:24:05.340 and how consistently
00:24:06.740 and how, you know,
00:24:07.760 the one thing that I noticed,
00:24:08.860 especially on planes now,
00:24:10.940 because you're sitting around people
00:24:12.120 for, you know,
00:24:13.620 hours at a time.
00:24:15.020 And when I look around,
00:24:16.200 people don't even fidget with the mask.
00:24:18.520 I don't even see that many people anymore
00:24:20.280 putting the mask underneath their nose.
00:24:22.640 I still do that so I can breathe.
00:24:24.800 But most people,
00:24:26.400 they just have it over their nose.
00:24:27.520 They don't touch it.
00:24:28.460 They have it on right.
00:24:30.260 And they keep it on for hours at a time.
00:24:32.360 And it's creepy.
00:24:36.640 But that's what people are doing.
00:24:38.820 And yet the virus is still surging.
00:24:43.480 Maybe there's a connection here.
00:24:45.860 Something to think about.
00:24:47.600 Finally, I probably enjoyed this
00:24:49.860 a little bit more than I should.
00:24:51.100 Here's a local news report
00:24:52.560 out of Troy, Michigan
00:24:53.700 about a bunch of grown adults
00:24:55.940 who lined up all night
00:24:58.100 in frigid temperatures.
00:24:59.260 This is Michigan, remember.
00:25:01.060 It is December now.
00:25:02.960 And they lined up all night
00:25:04.020 outside of a Walmart
00:25:04.760 for a video game console
00:25:07.200 only to be severely disappointed
00:25:08.780 when the Walmart actually opened.
00:25:10.320 Watch this.
00:25:11.640 So the rumor was that Walmart
00:25:13.560 here in Troy
00:25:14.380 had the PlayStation 5.
00:25:16.420 It's one of the hottest items
00:25:17.440 for this holiday season.
00:25:18.560 Well, word got out
00:25:19.720 and about 100 people
00:25:20.700 started lining up
00:25:21.620 at about midnight.
00:25:22.760 Yes, sir.
00:25:23.500 Look at this.
00:25:24.280 How long, you guys?
00:25:24.940 How many days you guys
00:25:25.720 tried to get this PlayStation?
00:25:26.840 I've been here for 12 hours.
00:25:28.000 12 hours you've been here?
00:25:29.720 Yes, sir.
00:25:30.500 Why is it so important
00:25:31.600 to get one of these?
00:25:32.840 We need them.
00:25:33.820 When the doors opened,
00:25:34.940 a stampede of people
00:25:36.120 went into the store
00:25:37.020 led by Fadi from Troy.
00:25:39.160 And people are wanting
00:25:40.260 to get in.
00:25:41.580 Look at this.
00:25:43.320 Look at this.
00:25:43.880 But only to find out
00:25:44.980 that Walmart
00:25:45.460 had no PS5s.
00:25:47.760 That's according
00:25:48.240 to the manager, right, Fadi?
00:25:49.760 She comes out
00:25:50.400 and tells us
00:25:50.720 that they have none in stock.
00:25:52.280 So if we were told
00:25:53.280 that they're going to have
00:25:53.660 them in stock Monday
00:25:54.320 and we waited seven hours
00:25:55.280 in the freezing cold
00:25:56.000 of 28 degrees,
00:25:57.880 why is there zero stock?
00:26:00.140 Okay.
00:26:02.920 That's good.
00:26:04.440 You know what?
00:26:05.040 Serves you right.
00:26:06.020 Serves you right.
00:26:07.820 This is how you decide
00:26:08.820 to spend your night
00:26:09.700 waiting in a Walmart
00:26:11.060 parking lot
00:26:11.940 for 12 hours?
00:26:14.780 How do you not
00:26:15.640 call the Walmart first?
00:26:17.200 That's my question.
00:26:18.380 Now, we were told
00:26:18.980 in the report
00:26:19.440 that a rumor,
00:26:20.160 there was a rumor
00:26:20.820 they heard from somewhere.
00:26:24.240 Before you even
00:26:25.060 think about
00:26:26.080 getting your tent out
00:26:27.880 and camping out,
00:26:28.480 how do you not
00:26:28.880 just call them
00:26:29.660 and say,
00:26:30.160 hey, are you getting
00:26:30.640 the PS5s in?
00:26:33.000 Apparently nobody
00:26:33.640 did that.
00:26:34.180 They just,
00:26:35.260 I don't know,
00:26:35.600 they were driving by,
00:26:36.560 they saw other people
00:26:37.200 waiting.
00:26:38.560 What are you guys
00:26:38.960 waiting for?
00:26:39.420 Oh, we've been waiting
00:26:40.720 for 12 hours
00:26:41.300 for a PS5.
00:26:42.020 Well, I guess I will too then.
00:26:45.100 And then they run in
00:26:46.100 and there's no PS5.
00:26:47.320 They have to be escorted
00:26:48.040 out by a police officer.
00:26:48.900 So many questions
00:26:51.360 arise for me
00:26:51.920 when I see this.
00:26:53.760 First question is why?
00:26:55.960 Just why in general?
00:26:58.500 I have never wanted
00:27:01.380 a consumer product
00:27:03.540 enough to wait
00:27:05.600 even an hour for it.
00:27:07.640 I've never seen
00:27:08.600 an hour long wait
00:27:09.780 for anything
00:27:10.660 where I actually
00:27:11.760 said to myself,
00:27:12.500 oh, I'll do that.
00:27:13.740 That's worth it.
00:27:15.820 If I see,
00:27:16.660 and this is why
00:27:17.420 I won't go to,
00:27:17.960 my wife tries to get me 1.00
00:27:18.860 to go to Disney World.
00:27:19.880 I won't go to Disney World.
00:27:20.660 I won't go to amusement parks.
00:27:22.200 Even like a,
00:27:22.780 even like a five minute wait.
00:27:25.160 You need,
00:27:25.600 that needs to really
00:27:26.420 be justified.
00:27:27.000 It has to really,
00:27:27.720 really be worth it.
00:27:28.580 An hour?
00:27:29.520 Hell no.
00:27:30.200 I'm not waiting
00:27:30.700 for a thing,
00:27:32.240 a product.
00:27:33.720 Especially when I know
00:27:34.540 that, okay,
00:27:34.940 I can just order it online.
00:27:36.200 What are you doing?
00:27:37.120 You just order it online.
00:27:38.040 I might have to wait
00:27:38.460 a couple more weeks.
00:27:42.800 So that's,
00:27:43.460 that's the first question
00:27:44.260 I have.
00:27:45.580 And then the second question,
00:27:46.960 though,
00:27:47.140 maybe more,
00:27:47.840 more pertinent
00:27:48.500 is,
00:27:49.800 is,
00:27:50.200 this is in Michigan.
00:27:52.620 And we're not,
00:27:53.880 not only is it like
00:27:54.480 20 degrees overnight,
00:27:55.260 but very strict
00:27:57.600 with the COVID restrictions
00:27:58.800 there in Michigan.
00:28:00.520 You know,
00:28:01.220 that's definitely
00:28:02.120 one of those states
00:28:02.800 where they're telling you
00:28:03.480 no more than 10 people
00:28:04.720 don't visit your,
00:28:05.960 your grandmother
00:28:06.820 for Thanksgiving
00:28:07.680 and Christmas.
00:28:09.820 So,
00:28:10.460 you know,
00:28:10.680 you can't get together
00:28:11.280 with your family
00:28:11.840 over the holiday.
00:28:12.600 they're shutting down
00:28:15.440 all these,
00:28:15.960 you know,
00:28:16.520 all these indoor establishments.
00:28:19.520 Yet,
00:28:20.180 a hundred people
00:28:21.120 can huddle together
00:28:22.640 outside of a Walmart
00:28:23.500 to buy a video game console.
00:28:26.820 They weren't even wearing masks.
00:28:28.280 Did you notice that?
00:28:30.460 Normally,
00:28:30.980 that wouldn't bother me.
00:28:31.540 I don't care if you wear a mask
00:28:32.320 or not.
00:28:34.140 But no police showed,
00:28:35.560 the police only showed up
00:28:36.600 when Walmart called them
00:28:37.700 to escort the people
00:28:38.460 out of the building
00:28:39.040 because I guess
00:28:39.640 they were,
00:28:40.040 they were,
00:28:40.820 they were disgruntled
00:28:43.040 over the fact
00:28:43.500 that there was no,
00:28:44.180 that there's no PS5.
00:28:46.220 That's amazing to me.
00:28:47.720 Or it's not really amazing
00:28:48.600 because we're used
00:28:49.040 to this sort of,
00:28:49.620 this sort of hypocrisy
00:28:51.360 by now,
00:28:51.700 but it should be amazing.
00:28:53.800 It's what we've discovered.
00:28:54.940 You know,
00:28:55.100 it's the,
00:28:56.200 this,
00:28:56.580 this immunity
00:28:57.980 enjoyed by shoppers
00:28:59.860 at big retail outlets
00:29:01.700 continues,
00:29:03.140 I guess.
00:29:03.980 If you're shopping
00:29:04.740 at Walmart
00:29:05.180 for consumer products,
00:29:06.720 you're immune.
00:29:07.720 Just like if you're
00:29:09.280 marching for racial equity,
00:29:11.140 you're immune.
00:29:12.400 You're celebrating
00:29:13.420 Joe Biden,
00:29:14.660 you're immune.
00:29:16.600 You're going
00:29:17.380 to the funeral
00:29:18.300 of a,
00:29:19.000 of a,
00:29:19.400 of a,
00:29:19.880 of a passed away Democrat
00:29:21.280 or someone who,
00:29:23.340 or,
00:29:23.660 or someone who was
00:29:24.280 shot by police.
00:29:25.000 You're immune.
00:29:26.940 Really incredible,
00:29:28.320 scientifically.
00:29:29.000 Maybe Bill Nye,
00:29:30.000 the science guy,
00:29:30.540 can explain the science
00:29:31.300 behind that
00:29:31.720 because I,
00:29:32.120 I gotta admit,
00:29:33.180 I'm, 1.00
00:29:33.380 I'm pretty stupid. 0.99
00:29:34.020 I don't fully understand 1.00
00:29:35.160 it myself.
00:29:36.860 But there is.
00:29:37.720 Maybe they can check,
00:29:38.680 maybe just order it
00:29:39.640 on Amazon
00:29:39.980 and,
00:29:40.320 and wait at your house.
00:29:42.180 Maybe while you're
00:29:43.420 waiting for the PS5,
00:29:44.560 it might take a few weeks,
00:29:45.440 I guess.
00:29:46.400 Maybe you could think
00:29:47.160 about
00:29:47.480 developing a hobby
00:29:50.660 of some kind
00:29:51.940 that doesn't involve
00:29:53.000 sitting on your couch.
00:29:54.940 Just a suggestion.
00:29:56.280 Now,
00:29:56.660 before we get to
00:29:57.120 our daily cancellation,
00:29:58.400 with the new year
00:29:59.900 coming up,
00:30:01.140 Christmas coming up,
00:30:01.860 how about give yourself
00:30:02.780 a present,
00:30:03.700 give yourself a gift
00:30:04.500 with a Daily Wire membership.
00:30:06.720 And now's the time
00:30:07.680 to do it
00:30:07.880 because we've got
00:30:08.080 a lot of great stuff
00:30:08.640 coming up.
00:30:09.280 We have a lot
00:30:09.760 of great stuff
00:30:10.300 right now
00:30:10.940 that you could
00:30:11.580 take advantage of
00:30:12.500 like this left.
00:30:13.800 This is the new
00:30:14.360 and improved
00:30:15.160 Leftist Tears Tumblr.
00:30:18.400 And you know what?
00:30:21.840 That coffee's been
00:30:22.620 sitting there
00:30:22.920 for about two days.
00:30:24.360 But I won't blame
00:30:25.540 the Tumblr on that.
00:30:26.220 This,
00:30:26.280 this top,
00:30:26.840 this Tumblr is,
00:30:27.560 is wonderful.
00:30:28.780 It keeps the coffee.
00:30:29.900 Even though it's been
00:30:30.620 sitting there
00:30:31.140 for days,
00:30:32.220 it's still
00:30:32.780 somewhat lukewarm
00:30:33.900 and it tastes horrible.
00:30:36.400 But the Tumblr
00:30:37.040 is still great.
00:30:37.980 On top of that though,
00:30:39.500 you get,
00:30:40.080 with the membership,
00:30:40.820 you get so much more.
00:30:42.680 We're adding a lot
00:30:43.700 of content
00:30:44.200 to the Daily Wire.
00:30:45.560 Michael Knowles show
00:30:46.400 is now five days a week
00:30:47.700 adding more content
00:30:48.800 for our members
00:30:49.280 to enjoy.
00:30:50.000 We're adding the entire
00:30:51.120 PragerU catalog
00:30:52.020 to dailywire.com
00:30:53.480 by the end of the year.
00:30:54.220 We've already got
00:30:54.900 the PragerU's
00:30:56.100 five-minute videos
00:30:57.080 uploaded.
00:30:57.620 We've got the
00:30:57.960 Candace Owen show
00:30:58.600 from PragerU.
00:30:59.920 Michael Knowles'
00:31:00.620 book club.
00:31:02.100 The rest of the library
00:31:02.840 will be added soon.
00:31:04.160 It's being added
00:31:04.580 as we speak.
00:31:05.360 So more and more.
00:31:06.060 Every time you go,
00:31:06.700 there's more stuff.
00:31:07.720 And early next year,
00:31:08.400 Candace Owens is joining
00:31:09.280 the Daily Wire
00:31:09.760 here in Nashville.
00:31:10.600 She's going to be launching 0.72
00:31:11.180 a live studio audience show.
00:31:13.400 That's going to be great.
00:31:14.440 We're building,
00:31:15.220 we've been telling you
00:31:15.780 about the investigative
00:31:16.480 journalism team.
00:31:18.680 We're making movies.
00:31:19.820 We're doing so much.
00:31:20.960 You've got to become
00:31:21.580 a member.
00:31:22.480 Dailywire.com
00:31:23.520 slash subscribe.
00:31:25.460 We're loud
00:31:26.140 and opinionated
00:31:26.780 having a good time.
00:31:28.020 And I'm having
00:31:28.640 a great time
00:31:29.240 actually today.
00:31:30.720 Change of pace.
00:31:31.700 Because I have
00:31:32.620 just been informed
00:31:33.620 the big news
00:31:34.400 today is the last day
00:31:37.520 that you can buy
00:31:39.140 the Daily Wire
00:31:40.240 Christmas tree ornaments.
00:31:41.800 They have just been
00:31:42.800 sitting lonely
00:31:43.900 in a warehouse
00:31:44.660 because nobody wants them.
00:31:46.840 But if you've been,
00:31:47.760 if you have been
00:31:48.360 putting it off,
00:31:49.180 if you've been
00:31:49.660 procrastinating
00:31:50.360 and you've been
00:31:51.560 telling yourself
00:31:51.900 every day,
00:31:52.440 I got to buy the,
00:31:53.120 I got to buy the ornaments
00:31:54.100 so I can have
00:31:54.920 Matt Walsh
00:31:55.660 and Michael Knowles
00:31:56.380 and Ben Shapiro
00:31:57.040 and Jeremy Boring
00:31:58.040 as adorable Christmas,
00:31:58.800 Christmas tree elves,
00:32:00.160 Christmas elves
00:32:00.820 on my Christmas tree,
00:32:01.540 you've been putting it off,
00:32:02.360 now is the time.
00:32:03.060 You got to do it.
00:32:04.040 This is the last day
00:32:05.420 that I will have
00:32:06.980 to talk about that.
00:32:08.620 Text Christmas
00:32:09.260 to 83400
00:32:10.940 to get your tree
00:32:11.800 decorated
00:32:12.280 or don't.
00:32:13.740 It doesn't really
00:32:14.080 matter to me.
00:32:15.220 But this is your
00:32:15.740 last chance to do it.
00:32:16.480 Again, that's
00:32:16.860 83400
00:32:18.160 text Christmas now.
00:32:20.680 All right,
00:32:20.940 let's get to our
00:32:21.580 daily cancellation.
00:32:22.280 Today, we're canceling
00:32:27.620 the Falls Church
00:32:28.740 School Board
00:32:29.620 in Virginia.
00:32:30.880 On Tuesday,
00:32:32.240 the school board
00:32:32.700 voted unanimously
00:32:33.660 to change the names
00:32:35.060 of Thomas Jefferson
00:32:36.060 Elementary School
00:32:36.620 and George Mason
00:32:37.280 High School,
00:32:37.820 achieving what I think
00:32:38.920 is one of the great
00:32:39.600 feats of bureaucratic
00:32:40.640 cowardice by knocking
00:32:42.100 out the father
00:32:42.840 of the Bill of Rights
00:32:43.580 and the author
00:32:44.600 of the Declaration
00:32:45.120 of Independence
00:32:45.560 all at once
00:32:46.300 in one evening.
00:32:48.940 School Board Chair
00:32:49.780 Greg Anderson
00:32:50.620 in announcing the change
00:32:51.920 said,
00:32:52.360 quote,
00:32:52.780 the board took
00:32:53.360 seriously the
00:32:54.080 viewpoints and
00:32:54.660 concerns raised by
00:32:55.620 many students,
00:32:56.360 parents,
00:32:56.720 staff,
00:32:56.980 and community
00:32:57.320 members.
00:32:57.880 We thank everyone
00:32:58.680 who shared their
00:32:59.580 perspectives with us
00:33:00.420 and will be mindful
00:33:01.540 of their comments
00:33:02.260 as we now begin
00:33:02.980 selecting names
00:33:03.720 that reflect the
00:33:04.340 diversity of opinions
00:33:05.240 in our community.
00:33:06.440 Our schools must be
00:33:07.380 places where all
00:33:08.200 students, staff,
00:33:09.380 and community
00:33:09.700 members feel safe,
00:33:11.160 supported,
00:33:11.620 and inspired.
00:33:13.540 Contrary to Mr.
00:33:14.400 Anderson's
00:33:14.800 blatherings here,
00:33:16.040 the viewpoints of
00:33:16.780 anybody who claims
00:33:17.580 to feel unsafe
00:33:18.800 because an elementary
00:33:19.780 school is named
00:33:20.480 after Thomas Jefferson
00:33:21.480 should not be
00:33:22.700 taken seriously.
00:33:23.980 A person who raises
00:33:24.820 such concerns
00:33:25.700 should be summarily
00:33:26.840 dismissed as 1.00
00:33:28.500 mentally ill, 1.00
00:33:29.860 stupid, 1.00
00:33:30.580 insincere, 1.00
00:33:31.320 or some combination
00:33:32.160 of the above.
00:33:33.420 Their opinions on
00:33:34.720 the issue are not
00:33:35.600 important.
00:33:36.680 Their feelings don't
00:33:37.420 matter.
00:33:38.700 Their desire to
00:33:39.640 dethrone our greatest
00:33:40.840 national heroes should
00:33:42.100 not be treated with
00:33:42.980 even a modicum of
00:33:44.080 respect.
00:33:45.480 But that's how it
00:33:46.500 should be.
00:33:47.780 And we know that
00:33:48.320 how it should be and
00:33:49.140 how it is are two
00:33:50.100 different things,
00:33:50.620 especially these days.
00:33:51.780 A report from the
00:33:52.480 local Falls Church
00:33:53.360 News Press says that
00:33:54.720 the board was
00:33:56.060 making the move
00:33:56.980 out of respect for
00:33:57.920 the strongly felt
00:33:59.020 sentiments of
00:33:59.740 students, teachers,
00:34:00.360 and citizens.
00:34:01.200 Although it also
00:34:02.480 notes that a majority
00:34:03.480 of that group,
00:34:04.600 student, teacher,
00:34:05.100 citizens,
00:34:06.020 didn't want the
00:34:07.500 name to be changed.
00:34:09.440 The board members
00:34:10.340 ultimately caved to
00:34:11.580 the demands of the
00:34:12.440 unreasonable minority 1.00
00:34:13.580 as it often goes.
00:34:14.660 It takes a special 0.98
00:34:16.080 sort of coward to 0.99
00:34:18.280 make this sort of 0.97
00:34:19.160 decision under those
00:34:20.360 circumstances.
00:34:21.820 And footage from a
00:34:22.660 school board work
00:34:23.520 session in June when
00:34:24.840 they first began
00:34:25.440 talking about this
00:34:26.140 issue shows that the
00:34:27.860 board is indeed
00:34:28.620 occupied by those 1.00
00:34:29.620 sorts of cowards. 0.99
00:34:30.920 The members can be 0.99
00:34:31.860 seen babbling
00:34:33.360 semi-coherently about
00:34:34.680 equity and inclusion,
00:34:36.900 none of them seeming
00:34:37.800 too terribly excited
00:34:39.160 about the name change,
00:34:40.300 but none possessing the
00:34:41.420 minimal courage required
00:34:42.520 to speak up decisively
00:34:43.500 against it.
00:34:44.660 This is how
00:34:45.180 bureaucracies from the
00:34:46.180 local school board
00:34:47.360 all the way up to the
00:34:48.260 federal government
00:34:48.820 often wind up making
00:34:50.400 mind-numbingly
00:34:51.180 terrible decisions.
00:34:52.340 Not everybody involved
00:34:53.280 has to be radical
00:34:54.160 ideologues.
00:34:55.380 There are usually only
00:34:56.140 a few of those.
00:34:57.460 The rest just have to
00:34:58.540 be so spineless that
00:34:59.660 you wonder how they
00:35:00.220 manage to sit up
00:35:00.920 straight in their
00:35:01.360 chairs.
00:35:02.440 And that's certainly
00:35:02.960 the case here.
00:35:03.620 Let's take a look at
00:35:05.000 some of that work
00:35:05.900 session.
00:35:06.300 Listen here.
00:35:08.100 Deeply held concerns
00:35:09.220 about George Mason,
00:35:10.740 Thomas Jefferson,
00:35:11.380 as owners of
00:35:12.480 enslaved people
00:35:13.240 have led a lot of
00:35:14.880 folks to push for
00:35:15.520 a new name for one
00:35:17.820 or more of our
00:35:18.320 schools.
00:35:19.620 You know,
00:35:19.820 longstanding racism,
00:35:21.240 inequities, they're
00:35:22.060 being denounced and
00:35:22.880 they're being fought
00:35:23.440 on a scale that we
00:35:24.300 haven't seen in
00:35:24.800 decades.
00:35:25.880 I had a debate with
00:35:26.800 myself whether I
00:35:27.540 should say within my
00:35:28.340 lifetime because I
00:35:29.340 wasn't sure if I
00:35:30.060 really wanted to say
00:35:31.260 that out loud, but
00:35:32.060 there you go.
00:35:33.560 Certainly in decades.
00:35:34.740 And people across the
00:35:35.480 country are looking to
00:35:36.220 themselves, to each
00:35:37.120 other, and to their
00:35:37.840 elected leaders to make
00:35:39.320 the changes that are
00:35:40.320 needed.
00:35:40.540 Thank you, Chair
00:35:41.440 Anderson.
00:35:42.600 I agree with
00:35:44.160 everything that you
00:35:45.640 said.
00:35:46.140 I think, you know,
00:35:46.900 there are, I
00:35:48.640 consider myself a
00:35:50.080 pretty decisive person,
00:35:51.360 but this is definitely
00:35:52.060 something that I have
00:35:53.380 kept an open mind on
00:35:54.380 and I definitely see
00:35:55.420 both sides of this
00:35:57.140 issue and I do feel
00:35:58.740 that it's an
00:36:00.460 important one.
00:36:01.200 I agree with, I
00:36:02.240 think, almost
00:36:02.740 everything you said.
00:36:03.760 I also support the
00:36:05.500 notion of starting a
00:36:06.940 process.
00:36:07.520 I think the
00:36:09.800 question is far from
00:36:11.180 clear, certainly in
00:36:12.080 my mind and in the
00:36:13.000 community's mind,
00:36:13.840 because we are
00:36:14.940 talking about two
00:36:16.180 people, in this case
00:36:17.140 two men, who have
00:36:19.060 mixed legacies, who
00:36:20.580 accomplished a lot,
00:36:21.760 but clearly own
00:36:24.740 slaves.
00:36:25.660 And that's an 0.98
00:36:26.820 extremely hard thing
00:36:28.060 to forget.
00:36:29.480 And you can't forget
00:36:30.220 or really forgive.
00:36:31.420 You can just perhaps
00:36:32.560 understand.
00:36:33.100 What a, just an
00:36:34.780 absolute parade of
00:36:36.040 mediocrity we just
00:36:37.540 witnessed there.
00:36:38.960 Especially the first,
00:36:39.900 I mean, all of them,
00:36:41.180 but especially the
00:36:41.980 first guy.
00:36:42.600 He makes the perfect 0.99
00:36:43.780 cowardly, bureaucratic 0.99
00:36:45.500 type of dude, 0.99
00:36:46.900 chair of the school
00:36:48.360 board, nothing going
00:36:50.480 on at all.
00:36:52.020 Yes, we care about
00:36:53.120 diversity and inclusion
00:36:54.580 and people have
00:36:56.440 different opinions and
00:36:57.420 everyone's opinions
00:36:58.480 are valid and some
00:37:00.620 people have an opinion
00:37:01.640 that says one thing
00:37:03.540 and others have
00:37:04.460 opinions that say
00:37:05.140 another and everyone
00:37:06.320 has good opinions
00:37:07.300 and opinions are all
00:37:09.080 good.
00:37:09.720 Tolerance is good.
00:37:11.720 Diversity, diversity
00:37:13.660 is very, very good.
00:37:15.020 We, we value
00:37:15.740 diversity. 1.00
00:37:16.340 Just shut up, dude. 1.00
00:37:19.000 Say, say something. 1.00
00:37:20.580 Can you say, can you
00:37:21.400 string together a
00:37:22.080 sentence that means
00:37:23.000 anything?
00:37:23.480 I don't care what it
00:37:24.120 is.
00:37:25.120 Are you capable of
00:37:26.160 that?
00:37:26.940 Probably not.
00:37:28.480 But all the wimpish 1.00
00:37:29.980 waffling and platitudes
00:37:31.560 spewing eventually gave
00:37:33.320 way to a decision,
00:37:34.120 the wrong one as
00:37:34.800 expected.
00:37:35.960 One of the school
00:37:36.700 board members,
00:37:37.540 Philip Reitinger,
00:37:39.080 and you just saw him
00:37:40.300 at the end of that
00:37:40.840 clip, and explaining
00:37:42.460 his vote during the
00:37:43.580 meeting on Tuesday
00:37:44.280 night, inadvertently
00:37:45.660 provided, I think, a
00:37:46.580 master class in
00:37:47.880 Orwellian rationalization.
00:37:50.280 Reading from his
00:37:50.820 prepared remarks,
00:37:51.560 Reitinger says that he
00:37:53.000 decided to vote for
00:37:54.260 changing the name
00:37:54.960 partly because Donald
00:37:56.460 Trump put kids in
00:37:57.480 cages.
00:37:58.380 Now, it's not clear
00:37:59.340 why Thomas Jefferson
00:38:00.320 should be blamed for
00:38:01.780 the immigrant detention
00:38:02.860 policies instituted by
00:38:03.880 Obama, or even why
00:38:04.960 Donald Trump should be
00:38:05.660 blamed for them.
00:38:07.140 All Reitinger could 0.97
00:38:08.120 say was that Trump's
00:38:09.020 alleged bigotry had
00:38:10.040 led him to conclude
00:38:10.900 that the board had to
00:38:12.660 do more for
00:38:13.540 diversity.
00:38:14.600 He also implied,
00:38:15.480 though, that having a
00:38:16.940 school named after
00:38:17.840 Jefferson and Mason
00:38:18.740 makes a statement
00:38:20.280 that people are not
00:38:22.960 created equal.
00:38:24.180 And then he claimed
00:38:25.000 that the best way to
00:38:26.140 live up to the words
00:38:27.220 of Thomas Jefferson
00:38:27.980 is to, quote, no
00:38:29.520 longer have a school
00:38:30.580 named after him.
00:38:32.140 You have to hear this
00:38:33.000 for yourself.
00:38:33.660 Take a listen.
00:38:35.100 But I will vote to
00:38:36.440 change the names.
00:38:37.860 I believe that at
00:38:38.800 this time, in this
00:38:40.240 place, it is the
00:38:41.460 right thing to do.
00:38:43.220 The critical moment
00:38:44.400 for me was the
00:38:45.260 presidential election.
00:38:46.880 I know this is a
00:38:47.740 nonpartisan board, but
00:38:49.380 I hold political
00:38:50.200 views, and those
00:38:51.460 views are affected
00:38:52.120 by my values, just
00:38:53.900 as were the
00:38:54.400 presidential candidates' 0.64
00:38:55.720 views affected by
00:38:56.660 their values.
00:38:58.080 I was proud that in
00:38:59.300 the Falls Church city,
00:39:00.820 the Democratic
00:39:01.400 candidate whose views
00:39:02.520 favor equity and
00:39:03.440 inclusion won with
00:39:04.420 over 81% of the
00:39:05.720 vote.
00:39:06.740 However, outside of
00:39:07.940 Falls Church,
00:39:08.680 approaching half the
00:39:09.520 country voted for
00:39:11.000 the other candidate.
00:39:12.640 That candidate put
00:39:13.680 children in cages.
00:39:15.700 He said there were
00:39:16.280 good people among the
00:39:17.640 white supremacists
00:39:18.620 marching in
00:39:19.500 Charlottesville.
00:39:20.580 He stoked division
00:39:21.640 at every turn.
00:39:23.300 I am appalled, both
00:39:24.860 by his behavior and
00:39:26.000 what the vote means
00:39:27.400 for the country.
00:39:28.880 I feel the need, both
00:39:30.720 personally and in my
00:39:31.760 capacity as a member of
00:39:33.440 the Falls Church city
00:39:34.340 school board, to help
00:39:35.840 change our course and do
00:39:37.040 more for diversity and
00:39:38.260 inclusion.
00:39:39.340 We need to fight
00:39:40.240 inequality and racism
00:39:41.860 with action.
00:39:43.080 We need to speak out.
00:39:45.000 Although actions matter
00:39:46.540 more than words, words
00:39:48.780 matter.
00:39:50.500 By having schools named
00:39:52.060 for George Mason and
00:39:53.260 Thomas Jefferson, we are
00:39:54.540 making a statement, and I
00:39:56.560 think we should make a
00:39:57.720 different statement.
00:39:59.180 We should instead make a
00:40:00.700 statement that we believe
00:40:01.760 all people are created
00:40:03.580 equal.
00:40:04.840 Thomas Jefferson wrote
00:40:06.040 almost those very words,
00:40:08.060 and we can better live up to
00:40:09.500 the goal he set by no longer
00:40:11.820 having a school named for
00:40:13.620 him.
00:40:15.320 Amazing.
00:40:16.400 Amazing.
00:40:16.920 By the way, I just noticed
00:40:19.460 watching that clip back that
00:40:21.600 two of the people there,
00:40:23.920 Anderson, the school chair
00:40:25.800 that we heard from earlier,
00:40:27.200 and then one of the other
00:40:28.220 guys has the pronouns up on
00:40:30.220 the Zoom call for next to
00:40:31.320 their name.
00:40:31.660 They got the he, him.
00:40:33.100 Of course.
00:40:33.980 Of course they do.
00:40:35.180 Of course they do.
00:40:37.460 And, you know, as I've said
00:40:38.440 before, if you are so often
00:40:42.580 mistaken for a woman that you 0.99
00:40:45.140 have to specify to everybody
00:40:46.720 that you meet that, by the
00:40:48.140 way, I'm a man, that's a
00:40:50.900 separate issue you might want
00:40:52.400 to look into.
00:40:52.880 You might even talk to your
00:40:53.980 doctor about that.
00:40:55.940 You know, maybe testosterone
00:40:57.140 pills or something might be a
00:40:59.900 good idea to look into.
00:41:01.460 You know, what I find is that
00:41:03.000 I don't have to go up to
00:41:03.980 people and say, I'm Matt
00:41:06.300 Walsh, he, him.
00:41:07.680 Because they sort of like just
00:41:08.920 get it by looking at me.
00:41:10.420 They get the he, him part. 0.66
00:41:13.220 But it's not the case for
00:41:14.080 everybody.
00:41:14.820 And I can see how it wouldn't
00:41:15.740 be the case for Greg Anderson.
00:41:16.680 In any case, there we have
00:41:18.880 Wright and Jerry.
00:41:19.420 He's appalled.
00:41:20.580 He's appalled.
00:41:21.980 Appalled by Donald Trump.
00:41:24.000 And for some reason, he's
00:41:24.780 appalled by Donald Trump for a
00:41:26.760 bunch of stuff that isn't even
00:41:27.720 true.
00:41:28.360 And the way to solve that is
00:41:30.640 to take it out on Thomas
00:41:32.380 Jefferson. 0.57
00:41:33.760 Now, the cowardly coup de
00:41:35.380 gras came later that night
00:41:37.140 when the school formerly known
00:41:38.960 as Thomas Jefferson
00:41:39.800 Elementary, perhaps we could
00:41:41.420 take the Washington football
00:41:42.500 team approach and rename the
00:41:43.700 school simply the elementary
00:41:45.280 school.
00:41:45.660 Tweeted out the news of the
00:41:47.520 name change and then deleted
00:41:49.180 it as soon as people started
00:41:50.420 criticizing it.
00:41:52.140 You know, the schools have
00:41:52.780 made their decision.
00:41:53.480 Now they're just going to hide
00:41:54.180 under their beds until the
00:41:55.280 mean people stop yelling at
00:41:57.060 them about it.
00:41:58.000 As it happens, the board
00:41:59.940 members are able to hide under
00:42:01.580 their beds or in their beds
00:42:02.880 because schools and Falls
00:42:05.080 Church have been shut down
00:42:06.780 since spring of last year.
00:42:08.400 They recently voted to extend
00:42:09.940 the remote learning farce until
00:42:11.320 2021 at least.
00:42:12.360 So while students remain
00:42:14.300 abandoned in limbo, having
00:42:16.760 not received a real education
00:42:18.140 in nine months, the board
00:42:19.580 has spent its time conducting
00:42:20.760 a moral assessment of a
00:42:22.460 founding father who died 200
00:42:23.720 years ago.
00:42:25.080 That's what they're doing with
00:42:26.080 their time.
00:42:27.840 Needless to say, their moral
00:42:28.880 assessment is wrong.
00:42:30.860 Yes, Thomas Jefferson owned
00:42:32.020 slaves.
00:42:32.460 So did George Mason.
00:42:33.540 These were flawed men, but their
00:42:35.560 flaws were nearly ubiquitous in
00:42:37.660 their time.
00:42:38.440 Not everybody owns slaves, of
00:42:39.580 course, but I doubt whether any
00:42:41.280 single person on earth in the
00:42:43.280 year 1776 or any year before it
00:42:45.960 or even in the century after it
00:42:47.840 could have passed as racially
00:42:49.560 enlightened by our standards
00:42:50.640 today.
00:42:51.340 Most of the world still cannot
00:42:52.760 pass that test.
00:42:54.580 And many people in the world
00:42:55.680 still own slaves, in fact.
00:42:57.760 Just not in the Western world.
00:42:59.700 In Jefferson's time, his 0.93
00:43:01.340 perspective was about as
00:43:02.520 enlightened as it got.
00:43:04.220 And that's how he and George
00:43:05.520 Mason, that's, you know, and
00:43:07.360 their compatriots managed to
00:43:09.360 lay the groundwork for what
00:43:11.420 would soon become the
00:43:12.360 greatest, not to mention most
00:43:13.460 diverse and racially tolerant
00:43:14.880 country on earth.
00:43:17.160 We honor the founding fathers for
00:43:19.580 that great achievement.
00:43:20.860 We don't honor them because they
00:43:22.280 were perfect.
00:43:23.320 We honor them because we are
00:43:24.840 Americans.
00:43:26.100 This is America.
00:43:27.560 And they are the men who built
00:43:28.980 it.
00:43:30.080 That should be reason enough.
00:43:32.920 If it's not reason enough, then
00:43:35.480 no historical figure is safe.
00:43:37.880 None.
00:43:39.360 Great people often commit great
00:43:41.320 sins.
00:43:42.660 Martin Luther King Jr.
00:43:44.500 was allegedly a serial
00:43:45.820 philanderer who watched and 0.99
00:43:47.320 laughed as a woman was raped. 0.99
00:43:50.200 If we cannot put Thomas 0.98
00:43:51.760 Jefferson's bad choices into
00:43:53.260 context, then why should we
00:43:54.760 lend that grace to MLK?
00:43:57.320 If we're looking for a perfect
00:43:59.200 hero among mere mortal men
00:44:01.300 anywhere on earth, anywhere in
00:44:03.020 history, we will not find him.
00:44:06.020 Even if we're searching simply
00:44:07.520 for somebody who wouldn't be
00:44:09.000 called racist and bigoted and
00:44:10.640 sexist by our standards today,
00:44:12.820 we still will not find him.
00:44:15.460 Either we can choose to see
00:44:17.220 historical figures in the
00:44:18.900 context of their time, judge
00:44:20.980 them accordingly, celebrate
00:44:23.020 them for the great things they
00:44:24.300 achieved while choosing not to
00:44:25.740 emulate whatever evil they
00:44:27.020 committed, or we can
00:44:28.800 systematically go back
00:44:30.260 through time and condemn
00:44:31.740 every person who's ever lived
00:44:33.460 and all of our ancestors who
00:44:35.040 established, fought for, and
00:44:36.180 passed down to us every good
00:44:37.740 thing we have in our lives.
00:44:40.140 The left has chosen its path, and
00:44:43.100 it's one that leads nowhere but
00:44:45.760 to insanity, as you just saw.
00:44:50.280 And that is why the Falls Church
00:44:51.680 school board is canceled with a
00:44:54.720 vengeance.
00:44:55.440 Everybody else attacks our
00:44:57.620 history, tears down statues,
00:45:00.440 monuments, takes names off of
00:45:01.900 buildings.
00:45:04.000 All canceled.
00:45:05.900 Thomas Jefferson, though, is not
00:45:07.320 canceled.
00:45:07.760 No matter how much they try to do
00:45:08.920 it, they won't succeed.
00:45:11.340 You know why?
00:45:11.880 Because Thomas Jefferson
00:45:12.940 achieved something
00:45:14.660 that withstood the test of time.
00:45:20.000 He did something.
00:45:20.960 He changed the world.
00:45:23.460 These people on the school board
00:45:24.840 are doing nothing.
00:45:26.080 They're not going to be
00:45:26.720 remembered.
00:45:27.140 They're not even remembered
00:45:27.800 now.
00:45:28.700 You could be in the room with
00:45:29.960 them, and you'd forget they were
00:45:30.940 there.
00:45:32.000 That's how utterly vacuous they
00:45:35.200 are.
