The Matt Walsh Show - Ep. 761 - Why You Shouldn't Care About Being Called A Bigot

00:00:00.000 Today on the Matt Wall Show, a racial equity activist group is apparently calling on white

00:00:04.940 liberal families to pledge that they won't send their kids to Ivy League schools. And in fact,

00:00:10.260 given that white liberals agree that white privilege and systemic racism exists,

00:00:14.900 the group actually has a point. Also, we have our five headlines, including Tucker Carlson

00:00:18.560 getting accosted by a deranged leftist weirdo while out with his family. The Olympics begins

00:00:23.760 and nobody really notices. And AOC offers a defense of critical race theory that contradicts

00:00:29.280 the usual defense of critical race theory that we're given and our daily cancellation. I must

00:00:33.100 today, once and for all, I am afraid I have to tell you, cancel the Free Britney movement. That

00:00:38.400 is canceled today, along with much more on the Matt Wall Show.

00:00:50.640 Now, there are a few things more humiliating or degrading than giving money to someone who hates

00:00:58.960 you. And that's what a lot of us are in the position of doing. So often as customers and

00:01:02.800 consumers, we're buying products from companies that hate our guts. Well, when you find a company

00:01:07.400 that supports you and is on your side, that's all the more reason to support them. And that's what

00:01:11.940 Charity Mobile is all about. Charity Mobile is the pro-life phone company. 5% of your monthly plan

00:01:16.800 price goes to the pro-life, pro-family charity of your choice. And that's an important point because

00:01:20.140 it's not just that they're saying the right things. The fact is that they're putting their money

00:01:24.000 where their mouth is. And they're actually supporting what is the most important cause

00:01:28.560 in our culture, the pro-life cause. A lot of great perks that come with this service as well.

00:01:33.800 New activations and eligible accounts get a free cell phone with free activation and free shipping.

00:01:38.780 There's no contracts, there's no termination fees, and there's no risk with a 30-day guarantee.

00:01:42.960 Another thing that I like is that Charity Mobile is creating jobs here in the United States.

00:01:46.840 They've got live customer service based right here in the USA. And free usage alerts,

00:01:52.280 free apps to monitor usage, a lot of great perks. But the main thing is you're helping to build a

00:01:56.540 culture of life in America by supporting a pro-life phone company. So call them at 1-877-474-3662

00:02:02.480 or chat with them online at charitymobile.com. You know, one of the difficulties of living in a

00:02:07.840 country where half of the people have gone entirely insane is that it's hard to tell what's real and

00:02:13.060 what isn't. It's easy to get suckered by trolls and satirists because the troll and the satirist 0.66

00:02:18.680 can't present a version of reality any more absurd than the one we actually live in. So it's kind of,

00:02:25.960 it's anyone's guess what's real and what isn't. And that's why, um, that's why I present the

00:02:30.080 following story with some trepidation, relatively sure that it's real, but I can never be completely

00:02:35.900 sure. So on Twitter over the weekend, conservative commentator Kathleen McKinley posted a screenshot

00:02:41.600 of, um, of a letter that was apparently distributed by, uh, two white families in a wealthy suburb of

00:02:48.420 Dallas by some kind of racial activist group. They went around giving this letter to white families

00:02:54.580 in this, uh, wealthy liberal neighborhood. The post-millennial has some of the details here.

00:03:00.160 It says, Dallas Justice Now, a racial equity advocacy group, has been actively campaigning to

00:03:06.320 convince wealthy white liberal families to not send their white children to Ivy league schools or

00:03:11.480 other top 50 collegiate institutions so that admission spots are available for people of color

00:03:16.080 to quote, correct historical wrongs. An organization purporting to be a racial justice group has been

00:03:21.080 sending letters informing white affluent Democrats about the college pledge around Dallas's richest

00:03:26.780 neighborhood, richest neighborhoods, such as storied Highland park. And then, uh, and then here's

00:03:31.640 some of what the, what the letter actually says. And this again was in a screenshot. Uh, this was left,

00:03:35.800 I don't know, put under people's doors or in their mailbox. I'm not sure. And the letter says

00:03:40.440 quote, we are writing to you because we understand you are white and live within the Highland park

00:03:46.560 independent school district and thus benefit from enormous privilege taken at the expense of

00:03:50.800 communities of color. You live in the whitest and wealthiest neighborhood in Dallas, whether you know

00:03:55.320 it or not, uh, you earned or inherited your money through oppressing people of color. However, it's also

00:04:00.980 our understanding that you're a Democrat and supporter of the black lives matter movement, which makes you

00:04:05.340 one of our white allies and puts you in a position to help correct these cruel injustices. We need you

00:04:10.660 to step up and back up your words with action and truly sacrifice to make our segregated city more

00:04:16.980 just. The letter then asks, uh, rather demands, I should say, that they pledge not to send their

00:04:22.680 children to an Ivy league school or any school listed in the top 50 by us news and world report.

00:04:28.000 Generously, the group does admit that this is a quote, tough commitment to make, but they point

00:04:35.620 out that if you're going to have a black lives matter sign in your yard, you ought to be ready 1.00

00:04:39.900 to make these kinds of sacrifices. The post-millennial has a little bit more. They say on the group's

00:04:45.100 website, white parents can take the pledge online. The pledge form asks users, um, uh, reading,

00:04:52.660 it says, will you, uh, will you take the college pledge? There are two options available for users

00:04:58.040 to choose. Here are the two options. You can take the college pledge. That's the question.

00:05:01.980 Two options. I am a racist hypocrite, or I agree. It says talk is not enough. Commit yourself towards 1.00

00:05:10.120 taking action and making sacrifices to correct centuries of injustice. The pledges description

00:05:14.980 instructs open up spaces for black and Latinx communities by refusing to send your kids to Ivy league 0.96

00:05:21.200 and us news world report, top 50 schools and encourage friends, neighbors, and family members

00:05:25.060 to do the same. Imagine if those hundreds of thousands of spots at these institutions were

00:05:29.320 occupied only by marginalized communities. Imagine the opportunities we can achieve true equity

00:05:35.460 within our lifetimes, but only if white folks are willing to sacrifice their privileges. Uh, 0.58

00:05:42.440 and then a little bit of the pledges as a white person with privilege, both from my whiteness

00:05:46.400 and my neighborhood, I recognize the need to make sacrifices for the purpose of correcting

00:05:50.960 hundreds of years of murder, slavery, discrimination, and lack of educational and economic opportunities

00:05:56.320 perpetrated upon people of color. Okay. If this is a, I should say, if this is a, a troll 1.00

00:06:01.720 job, it's a pretty committed one because I looked at the website myself and it certainly

00:06:06.320 appears legitimate. The group also has a very active Twitter presence, which includes this

00:06:11.600 video, which I'll play for you from a member, a member of the group named Jamil recorded this

00:06:16.020 video. Here she is explaining why they're asking white families to clear the deck and keep their 0.94

00:06:22.260 kids out of our nation's top schools. Here it is. We are fighting for change. We are fighting for

00:06:28.300 equality. We are wanting to bridge gaps and we just want to catch up. I'm a parent myself and I would love

00:06:38.220 to be able to send my children to college. I feel that not only sending my children to college

00:06:43.040 will not just be a good thing for them, a good thing for us, but also in the future to come. Their kids

00:06:49.320 will say, Hey, mom, dad went to college. I'm going to do that too. Therefore I will be creating

00:06:54.720 generational wealth in my family. And I believe it's a trickle down effect. The kids in the community,

00:06:59.640 the kids that come over and play, the kids that will come and come over and play with my kids,

00:07:04.660 kids, they'll all be affected by that because they'll see it. They'll see it. They'll feel it.

00:07:10.920 I believe that it is my burden. It is our burden to use our voices, our platforms to spread awareness,

00:07:21.220 to offer options and choices on how others can support the cause on how others can make the dream

00:07:32.780 become a reality. So again, we're just a nonprofit advocacy group seeking change, seeking quality,

00:07:41.500 seeking justice.

00:07:43.580 That's it. That's all they're seeking. Change, equality, justice. And for you to totally debase

00:07:51.360 and submit yourselves to them and their authority and their power. That's it. That's all. Is that too

00:07:57.520 much to ask? Really? Take opportunities away from your own kids and give those opportunities to their

00:08:05.000 kids. Prioritize their kids over your own. That's it. It's pretty reasonable. There is an undeniable

00:08:14.460 poetic justice in this. White liberals thought that the Black Lives Matter sign in the yard would be like

00:08:19.080 the lamb's blood on the door signaling that the BLM mob should pass them over and go visit the MAGA 0.91

00:08:24.580 house down the street instead. But that's not what happened. Instead, the mob knocked on their door

00:08:28.860 and said, so you're an ally, huh? Well, now prove it. There are a number of important lessons to be

00:08:34.920 learned here. One is the familiar lesson that no amount of self-subjugation and self-flagellation

00:08:40.160 will ever be enough. They will always come back wanting more. And another lesson related to the

00:08:47.300 first is that the left, and this is really important to understand, the left-wing mob has,

00:08:55.220 of course, a lot of cultural and institutional power that you can't do anything about directly.

00:09:01.040 Right? That's the world, that's the culture we're living in. But beyond that, much of the power it has

00:09:08.020 over your life, you know, that power, the direct power it has over your life, the power to control

00:09:16.280 and intimidate you, much of that power has to be granted to it by you. Okay? If you allow the labels,

00:09:28.020 bigot, racist, homophobe, transphobe, sexist, etc., to bother you, to make you curl into a ball 0.98

00:09:36.020 in the fetal position, you know, cowering on the floor when someone says that to you, 1.00

00:09:42.440 then you have given them near unlimited power over your life. If it really, really upsets you

00:09:49.920 when someone calls you a bigot, and the worst thing in the world to you is to be called a bigot

00:09:53.180 or a racist, then because of that attitude on your part, you have given the left-wing mob

00:10:01.320 complete power over you. You've given them everything. You've given them your soul.

00:10:07.700 You're just a dog on a leash now, and they're holding the other end of the leash.

00:10:13.580 On the flip side of that, if you get to the point where the labels mean nothing at all,

00:10:19.480 where it makes no difference what they say to you or about you, then a significant amount of

00:10:24.800 their power will be taken from them and given back to you. See, they wouldn't bother leaving

00:10:31.520 this letter on my doorstep. One, because I wouldn't send my kids to an Ivy League school anyway.

00:10:36.040 I love my kids too much to do that to them. But two, because I don't care what they say or think.

00:10:44.160 So if they come to me and say, do this thing that we want, or we'll call you racist,

00:10:48.320 racist, I say, well, call me racist then. What do I care? I don't care. Do you agree or are you a

00:10:56.240 racist? See, for a lot of liberals, that's, you've beat them. That trick right there, the false

00:11:03.440 dichotomy, you beat them. You can do this thing we want, or you could be a racist. Those are the two 0.90

00:11:08.740 options. You know, a fork in the road. Go left and it's what we want and that's good. Go right and

00:11:16.680 you're a racist. See, I meet that fork in the road and I say, well, I'll just go right. 0.99

00:11:21.700 Oh, you're saying you're a racist? No, I'm saying I don't care what you say.

00:11:24.880 It doesn't matter to me. I'm going to make the decision that I want to make. It doesn't matter

00:11:29.880 to me what you say. Now, as for these families, these nice white liberal progressive enlightened

00:11:38.580 families, they've set the precedent and it's a precedent of self-debasement. In fact, really,

00:11:45.580 Dallas justice now has a point. These white liberals, in theory, agree that white privilege

00:11:54.180 exists. They agree that systemic racism is real. They agree that white people are historically evil

00:11:59.740 and oppressive. They agree that we live on stolen land. If you were to go up to them and ask them, 1.00

00:12:05.580 do they agree with all of those propositions? They would say, yeah, absolutely.

00:12:08.160 Absolutely. And they would keep going. So you agree white people are evil. They don't know. Oh, 0.76

00:12:14.000 yeah. Oh, yeah. We're terrible. White people are the worst. You agree that all the things that you 1.00

00:12:19.400 have in your life, it's just systemic racism has given this to you? Yeah, sure. Absolutely.

00:12:26.500 Well, if you agree with all those propositions, then indeed, you probably should keep your kids out

00:12:32.360 of the Ivy League schools. I mean, you should go further than that. You should vacate not only the

00:12:37.520 school, but your property, your home. Flee into the wilderness in shame. Exile yourself. You know,

00:12:44.320 you could live in the cavity of a hollowed out tree, eating bugs and mushrooms for the rest of your days.

00:12:51.220 That's what you would do if you took that worldview seriously. That everything you have

00:12:57.560 is in some way the result of racism and privilege and theft that you also in some way are responsible

00:13:10.040 for and hold guilt because of. If you really believe that, then that's what you would do.

00:13:20.700 But these white liberals, they don't do that because they'd prefer to virtue signal

00:13:24.780 and hope that nobody ever asks them to do anything more than that.

00:13:30.980 Now let's get to our five headlines.

00:13:38.480 One of the problems with having car trouble, if you need a car part, it means if you want to go to

00:13:44.360 the auto parts store and get the part you need, well, you might need your car to do that. And that

00:13:48.860 could create it. That could sometimes create a conflict. And even if you're able to get to the

00:13:52.620 auto parts store, why bother with that? It's summertime. It's beautiful out. Well,

00:13:57.360 it's not beautiful here. It's scorching hot, but that's even more reason why leave your house,

00:14:01.220 but you can just stay at home, get your phone out, get on your computer and go to rockauto.com.

00:14:06.180 Rockauto.com has the lowest price as possible. And they also have a great selection. All you got to

00:14:12.400 do is go to rockauto.com. You could see all the parts that are available for your vehicle and you

00:14:18.580 could choose the brands, the specifications, the prices you prefer. That's a really nice

00:14:22.160 feature as well. Cause the price I prefer is like the lowest one all the time. And so I can just

00:14:26.760 plug that in and I can immediately find what I'm looking for. Look, they're a family business.

00:14:30.840 They've been serving auto parts customers online for 20 years. So you can go to rockauto.com right

00:14:35.600 now to shop for auto and body parts from hundreds of manufacturers. So do that. Go right now,

00:14:39.420 rockauto.com, see all the parts available for your car or truck. And as always write Walsh in there.

00:14:43.880 How did you hear about us box? So they know that we sent you. This was wonderful. I have to start

00:14:49.880 with this. Uh, I got to mention Michael Bennett, Senator Bennett. He tweeted this out over the

00:14:57.280 weekend and it's a picture of him. He's a Democrat, obviously picture of him standing, you know,

00:15:03.640 in a farm, allegedly a farm, but sitting next to some sort of tractor. And, uh, and the caption

00:15:11.200 says, president Biden tracked me down in the North Fork Valley to talk about the child tax credit.

00:15:16.960 And so he's posing there on his phone, standing next to a tractor. And I can imagine how that

00:15:23.280 conversations go. Hey Joe, I was just out here plowing the fields in my dry cleaned, uh, button

00:15:27.540 down shirt, my brand new jeans. Fortunately, my staffer was following me around taking pictures

00:15:32.580 because I always bring him with me. He's got the camera ready when I'm, when I'm out in the fields,

00:15:36.540 he just follows me everywhere. Even out on the farm. Oh no, no, no. My tractor doesn't leave tire

00:15:40.640 marks and there's no dirt on the tires either. It's more of a hovercraft actually. Uh, it's a,

00:15:45.120 but anyway, what was that about the child tax credit? I also love tracked me. President Biden

00:15:52.400 tracked me down. No, he called your phone that you had in your pocket. You understand how cell phones

00:15:57.660 work, don't you? Somebody calls your phone and you pick up. How'd you track me down? How'd you know

00:16:02.160 where to find me? Probably the phone you're carrying around. These people are such posers.

00:16:09.220 Just if you're a politician, just embrace it. You're a career politician. You've been doing

00:16:16.260 this forever. You're, you're not a, you're not one of the normal folk. You don't work on the farm.

00:16:22.600 Embrace that. Be real with people because this kind of thing, who exactly is this supposed to appeal to?

00:16:28.340 Is my question. Uh, I also have that question about the Olympics, which started on Friday. Uh,

00:16:37.060 it's big opening ceremony and ratings are way down. Nobody's really watching it. Of course,

00:16:44.420 we're doing the Olympics a year later because of COVID. And now there's, there's no, there's no,

00:16:47.860 there's no real audience either for many of these events, uh, which gives it kind of a weird muted tone

00:16:55.300 already. Um, and I know something about that because I actually have watched some of the

00:17:01.220 Olympics, Olympic events, not really my choice, but my wife is a big, she's a big Olympic fan of 0.98

00:17:07.120 the Olympics. And so I said on Friday, okay, I'll sit down with the family and I'll watch some of the

00:17:13.140 Olympics because I'm a family man and you know, I want to be selfless. And so I'll sit down and watch

00:17:19.800 it. And I did, but I spent the whole time complaining about the Olympics and making fun of

00:17:25.700 it. And my wife pointed out after the fact that that doesn't really count as quality time. So the

00:17:31.080 next day I sat down and said, I'll actually watch them. And I tried to watch them. I tried to endure

00:17:34.660 it. Fortunately, I missed this though. We didn't watch the opening ceremony. Um, so I didn't have to

00:17:41.000 at least live. I didn't have to endure this. Um, the Olympics began with a performance of the song

00:17:47.620 Imagine. And it was performed by John Legend, Keith Urban, um, teamed up for this atrocity.

00:17:55.160 And now I'll subject you to some of it. Here it is.

00:17:57.620 You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. Oh no, I hope someday you join us.

00:18:17.620 And the world will. And the world will. And the world will. And the world will leave us one.

00:18:33.800 And the world will. And the world will. And the world will. And the world will live us one.

00:18:39.280 And the world will live us one. And the world will. And the world will.

00:18:52.340 Okay. It's become popular to hate this song, Imagine. And I'm not going to be the contrarian

00:19:12.840 on that. I hate it too. It's one of the worst songs ever written. And I was saying that before

00:19:17.320 it was cool to say that. All right. It's like the last couple of years, everyone hates this song,

00:19:20.880 but for most of my life, I've had to endure this song over and over again. It's supposed

00:19:27.900 to be this inspirational anthem. And now suddenly people are saying, you know what? It is a pretty

00:19:32.620 bad song. And I'm glad we're all on the same page with that. And it's sort of hilariously

00:19:39.180 inappropriate, especially for the Olympics, because one of the lyrics is, imagine there

00:19:43.960 are no countries. But the Olympics is all about the fact that there are countries competing with

00:19:48.860 each other. An Olympics without countries. I wonder how that would work exactly. That's

00:19:53.780 the whole point of the Olympics are the fact that there are countries. And then you look

00:19:59.740 at all the other, and it's not just the lyrics, which makes the arrangement, the melody, everything

00:20:03.660 makes it to this grating, ironically unimaginative song. But the lyrics, especially imagine there

00:20:12.120 are no countries. Imagine there's no religion, no heaven. This is a Marxist vision dystopia

00:20:23.720 that for years, many people in this country who do not share that worldview have been convinced

00:20:32.740 to embrace this song and be inspired by it. Imagine there's no heaven above us. Okay. So we're

00:20:40.500 imagining that we die and fade into the ether. We fade into the abyss, into the blackness of

00:20:48.920 nothingness. Everyone you've ever known, all of your family, they're gone. They're nothing

00:20:57.160 but warm food and nothing more than that. If that's your claim, then okay, fine. I know

00:21:03.340 there are plenty of people that believe that, but don't ask me to be inspired by that.

00:21:09.780 You can't put that into lyrics and expect me to be inspired. I don't find that inspiring. I find

00:21:15.040 that horrifying. So a terrible song. And as I said, the Olympics themselves, the ratings are

00:21:22.960 significantly down. And I think that has something to do with the fact that it's the same thing that

00:21:28.680 they went through with football and basketball last year, all the pro sports, where you don't

00:21:34.020 have any audience. Part of the experience when you're watching it on TV is the excitement. I've

00:21:40.840 never felt a lot of excitement about the Olympics, but I imagine the people who do part of that is

00:21:44.480 the audience there hearing the crowd cheer. That's a big part of the experience. You take that out

00:21:50.560 and you have these people doing gymnastics in a quiet, empty stadium. It's, it's depressing to

00:21:57.060 watch. And that's part of the reason why the ratings are down. And I also think in the United

00:22:04.300 States anyway, when you've got women's soccer and other Olympic athletes, um, who don't appear to

00:22:14.200 have any gratitude or love for their country. And that's not at all the case for every Olympic

00:22:19.880 athlete. Many of these people are very patriotic and I feel bad for them that they're, that's one

00:22:24.740 of the reasons why, aside from the fact that you're disrespecting your country, whether it's

00:22:31.080 Gwen Berry or the, or the women's soccer, any of these other athletes that are doing this

00:22:35.380 disrespecting your country, but it's also selfish that you're, you're overshadowing. You're making

00:22:41.700 it all about yourself. You're overshadowing these other athletes. Gwen Berry, remember she was,

00:22:49.440 uh, she was, she finished third and all the conversation was about her, not the people

00:22:56.600 who came before her. So you're overshadowing and you're kind of getting them all lumped in

00:23:02.040 with you, which isn't entirely fair, but that's what's happened. Same thing with the NBA and the

00:23:09.740 NFL. Not all of these athletes are on in the NBA. It seems like probably 99% of them are, but, uh,

00:23:16.520 in the NFL, certainly not all of them are on board with this BLM propaganda and all of that.

00:23:26.580 But the ones who've made it political, they've kind of ruined it for everybody else.

00:23:29.860 And so what was supposed to be the Olympics, I guess, if you've enjoyed watching them, it's,

00:23:36.200 it's supposed to be about national unity. We're all watching and cheering for the same team,

00:23:42.760 our team, you know, we're all together as a team.

00:23:47.760 That has been ruined in recent years, especially this year. And it's sad to see.

00:23:53.320 All right. Next, uh, Tucker Carlson. So Tucker Carlson was, was trending on Twitter over the

00:23:58.820 weekend as he, as he often does. Only this case, he was trending not because of anything he said.

00:24:03.200 It was a confrontation between him and another guy at a fly fishing shop in Montana. And I say

00:24:10.100 confrontation really, he, Tucker Carlson was being accosted. That's not really, he was not,

00:24:14.420 this was, this was not him confronting anyone. He was apparently at this fly fishing shop with his

00:24:19.360 daughter, presumably getting some fishing gear, going to go out on a fishing trip with his,

00:24:23.160 with his kids. And this guy who, uh, his name is Dan Bailey comes up to him. Uh, we,

00:24:31.340 you can't hear much. We'll play the clip though. But this was originally shared by the leftist

00:24:36.820 account, occupied Democrats on Twitter in a very celebratory way. So let's make this go viral.

00:24:44.980 And leftists were cheering this on. They love seeing this. Let's watch the clip first and then

00:24:49.440 we'll talk about it.

00:24:53.160 I want you to, to this state, to the United States, to everything else in this world.

00:25:10.140 I don't care that you're not here. What you've done to families, what you have done to everybody

00:25:14.940 else. So you can hear him say, you can hear him say there, uh, that you're what you're the worst 0.98

00:25:26.680 human being known to man. Tucker Carlson in this guy's mind. And a lot of people on the left would 0.61

00:25:32.840 agree. The worst person on earth is a cable news host who says opinions you don't like.

00:25:39.700 That's their whole beef with Tucker Carlson. They're not, they're not alleging that in,

00:25:45.680 in secret, he's a, he's a serial killer or something. Maybe they'll get to that point

00:25:49.520 eventually, but right now they're not. Uh, their whole beef is that he has opinions they don't

00:25:54.480 like. And that makes him the worst person on earth. You can also hear the guy again, his name

00:26:01.580 is Dan Bailey. Apparently you can hear him say, I don't care if you're with your daughter.

00:26:07.820 Now I gotta say, maybe I take this especially personally because not just as a fan of Tucker

00:26:15.260 Carlson, but also as a, as an angler myself, I can tell you this, this, this is such a breach

00:26:22.440 in fishing protocol to begin with. This is when, yeah, he's not out at the lake yet, but still

00:26:30.540 you're at a fishing shop. You're thinking about fishing. You're with your kid. You're about to

00:26:35.400 go on a fishing trip. The whole, this is a sacred space. Fishing, the whole thing is a sacred space,

00:26:41.640 including the shops too. Go to Bass Pro Shops, sacred, sacred place. You don't bring your personal

00:26:47.700 feuds and rivalries and politics into that. Uh, but that's what he did. I can also tell you

00:26:56.120 another thing. If this guy is, he's according to Occupy Democrats, he's a fly fishing guy, Dan

00:27:00.920 Bailey. That's part of what he does for a job, I guess. I can guarantee you the leftists, vast

00:27:08.780 majority of the leftists who are cheering this on, they're not in the market for a fly fishing

00:27:12.820 guide in Montana. And most of the people who are in a market for the market for a fly

00:27:21.280 fishing guide in Montana, they don't want some deranged leftist weirdo who's going to break 0.59

00:27:28.600 them about politics the whole time. So he's probably just destroyed his business by doing 0.64

00:27:33.520 this. And for good reason. That's the last thing I would want. If I was ever going to get

00:27:39.560 a fishing guide, which, which I probably wouldn't because a big part of the thing for me is to be

00:27:43.560 out by myself. But, um, the last thing I would want is a guy who's going to be doing that defeats

00:27:51.140 the entire purpose. But when you see, uh, the left is cheering this on when he's out again, out with

00:28:00.480 his kid, minding his own business. You know, I think you see how there is just no respect. This

00:28:10.740 is why I'm always beating this drum about we don't have unity in this country and we're not going to

00:28:19.000 have unity. Okay. Not anytime soon. Some, some, some massive fundamental things would need to change

00:28:27.600 in this country in order for there to be anything like unity. And those changes, if they ever happen,

00:28:33.260 aren't going to happen anytime soon. Um, and this is one of the reasons why you see it here.

00:28:40.120 Why there isn't unity because there's just no respect.

00:28:44.660 That guy accosting Tucker Carlson has no respect for him on any level at all as a man.

00:28:49.380 That's why you go after a guy when he's with his, with his daughter at a fishing shop

00:28:52.900 and all the left is cheering it on. They have no respect for him. None. I'm not saying they don't

00:28:59.860 respect his views. We know that they don't respect him as a person. And it's not just him.

00:29:06.340 If you don't agree with them, if you have opinions that differ from their own, and especially if you

00:29:12.380 make the mistake of saying them out loud, they do not respect you as a person and they don't think

00:29:17.220 you're worthy of respect. And that's been made really clear. Maxine Waters, remember, she said,

00:29:25.700 confront them everywhere you find them, make them, make sure they know they're not welcome.

00:29:30.820 And she was talking ostensibly about people affiliated with the Trump administration,

00:29:34.300 but really she was talking about conservatives. There's no, there, in order for there to be some

00:29:40.240 kind of unity, there has to also be serving as the foundation of that unity. There has to be some

00:29:45.900 kind of elemental, fundamental respect between the two parties. You can't have unity without

00:29:51.360 respect. I don't agree with you, but I, but I respect you as a person.

00:29:57.820 And I have to tell you something, it's not just on their end.

00:30:02.100 I will fully admit, I don't respect them either.

00:30:06.840 If you take someone, for example, who, um,

00:30:09.120 would defend a man's right to go into a woman's locker room and expose himself 0.84

00:30:16.060 to women and children, someone who, who, who takes that position, I don't respect you.

00:30:22.800 Someone who defend the mutilation and drugging of kids.

00:30:27.680 Someone who defends the, the mass execution of 60 million unborn babies.

00:30:32.000 I don't, I don't respect you. It goes way beyond. I disagree. I do disagree with you,

00:30:36.080 but I also, I just don't respect you as a person anymore because of that.

00:30:41.840 This is, this goes beyond a mere disagreement.

00:30:46.320 This is a moral flaw, a character flaw on your part that is so profound that I don't know.

00:30:51.980 How could I respect you?

00:30:53.080 So it's a, it's a mutual feeling, I think, on both sides and not exactly the foundation for unity there.

00:31:04.240 All right. Uh, moving on here. We got Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. 0.98

00:31:08.820 I thought this was, was interesting just because of how contradictory it really was.

00:31:12.940 So she was on with Don Lemon last night, I believe,

00:31:17.840 talking about critical race theory in schools and, uh, explaining why,

00:31:22.840 hey, if you don't want critical race theory in schools,

00:31:25.980 it must mean that you, you just, you don't care if people are racist.

00:31:30.220 Why wouldn't you want people to learn how to not be racist? Let's listen.

00:31:35.680 And to that, we should say, why don't you want our schools to teach anti-racism?

00:31:44.660 Why don't Republicans want their kids to know the tradition of anti-racism in the United States?

00:31:54.840 Why are Republicans trying to ban books in this country?

00:31:59.540 Why are Republicans trying to ban speech?

00:32:02.460 Why are they trying to fire certain professors?

00:32:05.140 Why are they attacking the core roots of history in this country that strays anything beyond what we already know?

00:32:14.480 In fact, you have folks like Kevin McCarthy making statements that sound like he's never even read Martin Luther King in his life,

00:32:23.360 trying to ban books that actually talk about the history of the civil rights movement

00:32:29.160 and institutional racism in the United States.

00:32:31.700 So why don't Republicans want us to learn how to not be racist?

00:32:38.240 Why don't Republicans want us, want kids to know how to not be racist?

00:32:44.540 How to not be racist.

00:32:46.100 Yeah, well, um, I don't need, speak for yourself, AOC.

00:32:49.740 That's not a, it's not a skill that I need to learn.

00:32:53.960 If you feel like you need practice, you need to go to how to not be racist lessons, then go ahead and do that.

00:33:04.480 The whole thing doesn't even, doesn't make it learn how to not be racist.

00:33:09.840 Here's what racism is.

00:33:11.660 Got to keep defining the term because, uh, there's a lot of confusion on this point.

00:33:17.200 Confusion that's being intentionally sowed by people like AOC.

00:33:20.220 If you believe that an entire race of people are inferior to your own race, okay, 0.90

00:33:29.380 if you would rank races according to who is inferior or superior, then you're racist.

00:33:37.120 That's a, that's a, that's a racist view.

00:33:38.740 That is racism.

00:33:41.440 If you don't believe that, then you're not racist.

00:33:46.000 You could be a lot of other things. 1.00

00:33:47.540 You could still be a jerk. 1.00

00:33:48.920 You could still be rude. 1.00

00:33:51.740 You could still have many other flaws.

00:33:53.420 You'd be kind of the person that leaves your, your shopping cart out in the parking lot, doesn't put it away.

00:33:57.460 So that doesn't mean you're a perfect person, but that's what racism is.

00:34:04.140 And if you're not that, then you don't need to learn anything about racism.

00:34:09.680 And even if you are that, let's say you do believe that a race of people are inferior to your own.

00:34:14.760 Um, someone like that, we're not going to reach that person by making racism into, into this broad, almost unknowable thing where you have to go to school for years and years in order to potentially break yourself of it or to free yourself from it.

00:34:34.080 That's what, that's what ends up happening here is that, you know, actual racism is a thing that exists in the world and not just the United States and not just among white people.

00:34:47.260 There's, there's, there's no denying the fact that there are people in the world who believe that certain races are inferior to their own.

00:34:56.780 No question.

00:34:58.600 What you end up doing is you let them off the hook. 0.93

00:35:00.700 The actual racist, you let completely off the hook by taking this label and applying it to everyone and saying that, you know, white people are inherently racist.

00:35:16.580 Everyone is.

00:35:19.820 That's, you know, actual racist can, uh, shake your hand and thank you for that, for letting them off the hook.

00:35:25.960 But there's another contradiction here because what are we told about critical race theory?

00:35:32.500 We're told two different, two different things by the defenders of it.

00:35:36.960 One is that, oh, it's this esoteric legal thing.

00:35:41.020 And, uh, it's, you're only, it's only in law school and we're not, no one's being taught that in, in, in school.

00:35:47.120 We're not teaching kids that that isn't happening.

00:35:50.180 This is, this is a conspiracy theory.

00:35:52.520 This is hysteria on the part of the right.

00:35:54.540 This has been invented by Fox news and, uh, conservatives and so on.

00:35:59.320 So we're told that.

00:36:01.340 But then also AOC says, oh, no, we, we, we need critical race theory.

00:36:06.060 So if you're, if you're criticizing critical race theory, the problem isn't that you're criticizing something that doesn't exist.

00:36:11.520 No, it's that we need it because there are millions of, of, of inherently racist little kids out there and we have to beat that racism out of them intellectually or perhaps even physically.

00:36:24.800 Who knows?

00:36:25.240 It's, it's gotta be one or the other, doesn't it?

00:36:30.200 I don't see how it could be both.

00:36:33.960 Either it's this abstract esoteric thing that we don't have to worry about and you're not, it's not in school.

00:36:40.740 It's only law school.

00:36:41.560 Or it's deeply, deeply necessary because there's so many racist people and they have to be taught how to not be racist.

00:36:51.640 Which one?

00:36:52.940 Can't be both.

00:36:55.560 Um, I guess we'll play this also.

00:36:58.700 Fauci.

00:36:59.260 I, I was, I was hesitant to play it because this would be like the third day of playing Fauci clips.

00:37:03.380 But we do have to start paying attention to Fauci again, unfortunately, um, as we see the push to reinstate mask mandates, uh, as, as that gets more and more serious, here's Fauci on CNN talking about, uh, that possibility.

00:37:18.880 I want to ask you, sources are telling CNN, the top health officials are weighing whether to revise mask guidelines for vaccinated Americans.

00:37:27.040 Are you part of those conversations?

00:37:28.880 And if so, what are you advising?

00:37:30.680 Do you think masks should be brought back for vaccinated Americans?

00:37:37.460 You know, Jake, this is under active consideration.

00:37:40.100 If you're asking about part of, am I part of the discussion?

00:37:43.440 Yes, I am part of the discussion.

00:37:45.700 But I think what you are seeing, even though as of our conversation at this moment, the CDC still says and recommends that if you are vaccinated fully,

00:37:55.200 that you do not need to wear a mask indoors, however, if you look at what's going on locally in the trenches, in places like L.A. County,

00:38:05.480 the local officials have the discretion and the CDC agrees with that ability and discretion capability to say, you know,

00:38:15.740 you're in a situation where we're having a lot of dynamics of infection.

00:38:18.860 So even if you are vaccinated, you should wear a mask.

00:38:23.180 That's a local decision that's not incompatible with the CDC's overall recommendations that give a lot of discretion to the locals.

00:38:33.160 And we're seeing that in L.A.

00:38:34.500 We're seeing it in Chicago.

00:38:36.000 We're seeing that in New Orleans because the officials there, many of them are saying,

00:38:41.000 even if you're vaccinated, it's prudent to wear a mask indoors.

00:38:45.580 So that's a local decision.

00:38:46.900 That's a lot of words getting us to the point where, yeah, we're going to see mask mandates.

00:38:53.780 They're going to try.

00:38:54.660 We're going to see this again nationwide.

00:38:56.420 Mark my words.

00:38:57.020 That's what's going to happen.

00:39:01.280 But we talked before about how, you know, the left wing mob, it has a certain amount of the power that it has.

00:39:08.620 It only has that power if you give, if you grant them that power over you.

00:39:13.120 Similar thing can be said here.

00:39:14.360 These mask mandates proliferated across the country and they stayed in place for months and months and months, largely because people cooperated with them.

00:39:24.980 People showed a willingness to do that.

00:39:28.020 To do as they're told, put the cloth on their face, even if they think it's ridiculous and there's no reason to do it.

00:39:33.760 So if we once again decide to cooperate, then, yeah, if we show a willingness to cooperate, then yes.

00:39:45.780 People will be wearing masks across the country yet again and it will never end.

00:39:49.780 So it's up to us to decide.

00:39:52.580 Are we going to cooperate with that?

00:39:56.500 My answer, by the way, is no.

00:39:59.220 All right.

00:39:59.760 Before we get to reading the YouTube comments, it's been a little heavy.

00:40:02.240 Let me let me read at least one story, something a little bit lighter, but also really important.

00:40:06.620 This is from NBC.

00:40:07.320 It says, Gen Z's now-stalgia for Y2K fashion is leading to a thrifting explosion. 1.00

00:40:14.360 It says, recently, the hottest piece of jewelry among Gen Z's favorite celebrities has nothing to do with precious stones or storied retailers.

00:40:20.680 Instead, stars like singers Dua Lipa.

00:40:23.820 Dua Lipa.

00:40:24.800 Who is that?

00:40:25.640 Olivia Rodrigo and the actor Pete Davidson are donning beaded necklaces reminiscent of homemade friendship jewelry from the early 2000s.

00:40:33.500 It's part of a rising trend of Y2K fashion and what has been called now-stalgia among Gen Z who are reviving or reliving early 2000s fashion trends.

00:40:43.180 They were too young to experience or remember the first time around.

00:40:46.480 So we're seeing a lot of this stuff that I grew up with is now in fashion again, basically, apparently.

00:40:52.660 But I just wish that Gen Z would talk to us millennials before deciding which of our early 90s or, you know, our 90s slash early 2000s fads should come back.

00:41:04.520 Like, talk to your elder statesman.

00:41:06.520 We've been there.

00:41:07.520 We know.

00:41:07.980 We've done this.

00:41:10.340 Definitely don't bring back the baggy JNCO jeans.

00:41:12.960 Those are done.

00:41:14.320 You want to bring back pogs and yo-yos? 1.00

00:41:17.740 Sounds good to me.

00:41:18.680 If you want to bring back track suits, I'm going to have to say no to that one.

00:41:24.660 I'm saying no to friendship bracelets.

00:41:26.300 We don't need to do that.

00:41:28.300 Don't even think about it with gel pens.

00:41:31.360 You want to bring back GAC?

00:41:34.660 If you want to bring back those little finger skateboard things that we all used to have as kids, I'm down with that too.

00:41:41.380 Also, let's bring back cargo shorts.

00:41:42.860 Maybe cargo shorts were never in style, but they've always been in style in my heart anyway.

00:41:50.160 This is what upsets me.

00:41:52.220 And it feels like appropriation.

00:41:53.640 When I see the kids today dressing like we dressed 20 years ago without asking us first, number one, for permission to take our, to appropriate our culture.

00:42:03.080 And number two, weather, you know, a little bit of guidance.

00:42:09.800 Humble yourselves, kids.

00:42:11.860 Now I've got to tell you about one of my favorite sponsors, Beard Supply.

00:42:15.520 Listen, it's July.

00:42:17.300 We're getting into August.

00:42:18.540 It's really hot.

00:42:19.360 This is when we separate literally the men from the boys.

00:42:21.740 This is when we find out if you're serious about growing a beard and keeping one.

00:42:24.900 If you really want to be in the bearded community.

00:42:26.660 Because I feel very strongly about this.

00:42:27.980 There are a lot of people that say, oh, it's November, let me grow a beard now, and I'll shave it off in June because, you know, it's too hot.

00:42:37.200 You're not part of the community.

00:42:38.560 I want to make that very clear.

00:42:40.300 Real bearded people, they keep that beard year-round, and you just suffer with it because it's worth it in the end.

00:42:46.980 It's character building.

00:42:48.580 But if you're going to have that beard, especially when it's all hot and sweaty out, that's all the more reason to keep it tame and looking fresh.

00:43:28.200 All right, let's move now to reading the YouTube comments.

00:43:30.920 This is from DH says,

00:43:33.180 If the Catholic Church truly had any moral authority, they would prohibit Pelosi, Biden, and their ilk from participating in any Catholic services or sacraments.

00:43:40.760 Well, as a Catholic, I do believe the Catholic Church has moral authority, but you're right.

00:43:43.960 That they should exercise it by prohibiting people like Pelosi, Biden, and their ilk from receiving the sacraments.

00:43:49.880 And this is one of the big problems with the Catholic Church not exercising that authority, or rather the bishops in these dioceses not exercising that authority.

00:44:01.640 Because it looks like you, as the authority figure in the church, you don't take this seriously.

00:44:10.360 If you don't take your own faith seriously, the faith where you're in a leadership position as a shepherd of souls,

00:44:16.560 if you don't take it seriously, why should anyone else take it seriously?

00:44:21.300 We talk about the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

00:44:25.860 That's quite a significant and profound claim.

00:44:28.720 But if you don't take it seriously yourself, then why should anyone believe it, is the thing.

00:44:36.340 And I think there are a lot of non-believers, a lot of people outside of the church that are looking at that and saying,

00:44:41.300 Well, you know, they don't appear to really take this all that seriously.

00:44:45.820 This goes beyond the Catholic Church.

00:44:47.200 I mean, look at all these churches for a year that just shut down shop because they were told to, without much resistance.

00:44:52.660 A lot of secular people, non-believers, atheists, who maybe could have been reached before that,

00:45:01.660 they look at that and say, Well, I guess church isn't all that important to you guys.

00:45:05.380 Why should I care?

00:45:08.420 It's a serious problem.

00:45:09.420 It's a serious scandal.

00:45:10.280 And you lose people.

00:45:11.300 You lose potential converts.

00:45:14.400 Shock Monkey Radio says, Urinals are the reason there's never a line for the men's room. 1.00

00:45:18.820 Yeah, I get that.

00:45:21.200 A lot of urinal defense in the comments, which is kind of weird to me.

00:45:25.400 Some people taking this, the urinal thing, way too personally.

00:45:30.260 Defending urinals.

00:45:32.360 I get it.

00:45:33.060 I get that it's more efficient that way.

00:45:35.080 I just don't like being treated like an animal.

00:45:36.560 That's all.

00:45:39.800 Another question says, Matt, what do you think of the trailer for the new Neil Blomkamp film, Demonic,

00:45:45.620 and the Catholic Church commandos who hunt them?

00:45:49.300 I haven't seen it, but Catholic commandos hunting demons sounds incredible. 0.72

00:45:53.380 But again, this is Hollywood, so anything that deals with the Catholic Church, I'm highly skeptical.

00:45:58.520 Marina says, Everything okay, Matt?

00:46:00.220 You seem to be having an off day.

00:46:02.920 Wow.

00:46:03.440 Well, I guess you didn't like the show on Friday.

00:46:05.260 I actually liked the show.

00:46:06.400 I thought I was, I felt great about it until I read that comment.

00:46:09.480 So thanks a lot.

00:46:11.460 This is like when you're out somewhere and you're feeling good about yourself,

00:46:14.220 feel like you're looking good.

00:46:15.560 And someone says, You okay?

00:46:16.760 You look tired.

00:46:17.320 Nothing more deflating than that, especially as someone who perpetually looks tired like myself.

00:46:24.380 Amy says, My parents always told us life isn't fair.

00:46:27.220 It's a good lesson for life.

00:46:28.920 It's a cliche, but it is an important lesson.

00:46:30.700 It's one of those cliches that we all heard from our parents that is a cliche for a reason,

00:46:36.520 because it's repeated often because it's true.

00:46:37.960 I think another parenting cliche that's kind of gone out of fashion recently.

00:46:42.540 I don't know if my generation of parents, they don't say this as often, but my parents said it all the time.

00:46:47.380 That's the classic, because I said so.

00:46:50.340 Now, you can abuse because I said so.

00:46:52.660 You could say it way too often.

00:46:53.740 But that is an important lesson for kids to learn.

00:46:59.640 That even if you don't understand why you're supposed to do something, that doesn't mean you don't have to do it.

00:47:06.400 You still have to respect my authority as a parent.

00:47:09.200 And we know kids, they ask why for everything.

00:47:14.320 Anytime you say anything to them, they're always going to ask why.

00:47:17.560 And so my policy is, if they're asking why sincerely, like they really want to know, then I'll tell them.

00:47:26.320 Or if the why is an important part of the lesson.

00:47:28.940 So I'll say, don't run in the street.

00:47:30.740 Why?

00:47:31.180 Oh, because you get hit by a car.

00:47:34.160 But many times the why is just a form of defiance.

00:47:37.420 It's just your way, your kid's way of letting you know that they don't like that you told them to do something.

00:47:42.640 And that's where the because I said so comes in.

00:47:45.940 That's your message that, okay, you might not like it.

00:47:48.140 You might not fully understand it because there are a lot of things about the world you don't understand because you're a kid.

00:47:52.640 But I'm the adult.

00:47:53.800 I'm the authority figure.

00:47:54.740 And you're going to respect that authority because I said so.

00:47:59.900 And finally, Linus says, this is the first time I've watched Matt from the beginning.

00:48:04.380 The first time I've watched Matt from the beginning.

00:48:06.760 Period.

00:48:07.420 And what did you think?

00:48:11.980 See, you guys are killing me with the veiled insults today.

00:48:15.120 I admit this happens a lot where, you know, I see someone and they go, oh, you're Matt Walsh from the Daily Wire.

00:48:22.160 And I say, yeah.

00:48:23.960 And they go, oh, yeah, I've seen your show.

00:48:27.620 That's it.

00:48:28.340 Walk away. 0.99

00:48:28.740 Which is another way of saying you're horrible. 0.97

00:48:35.960 Yeah.

00:48:36.280 Because if you like the show, you'd probably follow that up with, I saw your show.

00:48:38.920 It was pretty good.

00:48:41.480 In other words, I'm deeply offended.

00:50:20.120 Now let's get to our daily cancellation.

00:50:21.280 Here are a couple of general rules which may not apply all the time but do seem to apply in this case.

00:50:29.560 The first is that bipartisan legislation is the worst kind of legislation.

00:50:33.260 If there's any idea, any proposal that can bring both Republicans and Democrats together and put them on the same page with each other, you know it must be uniquely terrible.

00:50:42.480 The second rule is that when it comes to longstanding personal disputes between people, especially people who are close to each other, especially family members, if you know only one side of the story, then you don't know the story.

00:50:56.380 Your opinion on the subject will be, therefore, basically worthless.

00:51:01.420 Now with that groundwork laid, let's begin with Republican Representative Nancy Mace, who along with Democrat Charlie Crist and their bipartisan gang of legislators are pushing a bill which they have dubbed the Free Britney Act.

00:51:14.840 This obviously stems from the outcry over the conservatorship of Britney Spears, who was denied the right to make legal decisions for herself after the court determined that she's not mentally fit to do so.

00:51:25.020 So this decision was made over a decade ago, I think like 13 or 14 years ago, following a very public mental breakdown, actually a series of mental breakdowns by Britney Spears.

00:51:34.640 And for the past many years, that decision has been repeatedly affirmed by the courts.

00:51:39.420 The courts have said that Britney Spears is mentally unfit and potentially a danger to herself or others.

00:51:45.520 But Britney's fans and now the public at large, after seeing a New York Times documentary on the subject, have decided that the courts got it wrong.

00:51:52.640 They have declared that Britney Spears should be freed from her conservatorship, which had granted decision-making powers to her father instead of herself.

00:52:01.780 Britney herself now is also calling for the arrangement to be terminated. 0.97

00:52:05.400 And now our lawmakers, never letting ill-informed hysteria go to waste, have jumped into the fray.

00:52:10.840 Many Republicans have still not said a word in defense of the January 6th rioters who've been locked in prison for months on trespassing charges, even as BLM militants who burned buildings and assaulted police officers go free.

00:52:23.840 And yet, those Republicans still have time to worry about Britney Spears. 0.95

00:52:29.020 To that end, here is Nancy Mace making her case on Fox News.

00:52:32.300 Here it is.

00:52:32.620 Thank you, Arthel, for having me on this afternoon.

00:52:35.840 The Free Act, well, first of all, I want to thank Britney Spears.

00:52:38.760 It took a lot of courage for her to come forward in a very public way as a celebrity and public figure, detailing the abuses of her conservatorship just last month in June.

00:52:49.640 And her situation is a total nightmare.

00:52:52.280 And if it can happen to her, of all people, then it can happen to anyone.

00:52:55.240 And what this piece of legislation would do would allow someone like Britney, who's in a conservatorship, to petition a judge, petition the court for an independent or public guardian, someone that could oversee the conservatorship who doesn't have a conflict of interest, financial or otherwise.

00:53:13.700 And that's really at the crux of this.

00:53:15.540 And there are 1.3 million people in conservatorships across the country today.

00:53:20.540 Okay.

00:53:22.560 So there are two basic questions to be dealt with here.

00:53:24.740 One is whether this legislation is needed or warranted.

00:53:29.160 And the other, more broadly, is whether Britney's fans and Instagram followers and people who saw the New York Times documentary are correct in their legal assessment of the case and their psychological assessment of Britney Spears.

00:53:39.380 So we'll look into both of these questions, beginning with the first.

00:53:43.040 Do we need this legislation?

00:53:45.560 Well, Mace and lots of people in the Free Britney movement have echoed this claim as well.

00:53:50.360 Mace says that this is a larger problem.

00:53:52.180 She says that conservatorship abuse is a widespread issue in this country.

00:53:55.720 We've got to do something about it.

00:53:57.180 But she also says that 1.3 million people are under conservatorships.

00:54:01.640 Well, in a country of some 330 million people, that means, if my math is right, and it usually isn't, that, what, 0.3% of all Americans are under conservatorships?

00:54:10.980 Not knowing anything about any of those cases, 0.3% seems like a rather reasonable figure at first glance.

00:54:19.420 Is it possible that 0.3% of Americans are mentally unfit to make decisions for themselves?

00:54:24.340 Yeah, clearly so.

00:54:25.780 If anything, it seems that the number should be significantly higher than it is.

00:54:29.880 I'm a little bit upset that it's not larger than that.

00:54:32.260 A better question is, is it true that only 0.3% of Americans are unfit to make decisions for themselves?

00:54:41.000 Only 0.3%?

00:54:44.000 Now, Mace says that if it can happen to Britney, it can happen to anyone.

00:54:48.040 But it doesn't happen to anyone.

00:54:49.900 It doesn't happen to hardly anyone.

00:54:51.880 It's happened to only 0.3% of the country.

00:54:54.620 What do you mean?

00:54:55.140 It could happen to anyone.

00:54:56.500 Yeah, but is it?

00:54:57.260 Now, I'm not arguing that there's no need for conservatorship reform.

00:55:04.380 What I'm arguing is that the facts about Britney Spears' case, what little we know,

00:55:09.080 and the fact that 1.3 million people are subject to these arrangements,

00:55:12.460 don't themselves add up to a need for sweeping reform.

00:55:16.560 If a better case can be made, then Mace should make it.

00:55:19.900 If there is some real far-reaching serious problem with the way conservatorships are handled in this country,

00:55:25.240 then present the facts and make your argument.

00:55:27.540 But then, if that far-reaching serious problem exists,

00:55:31.100 why did you wait for Britney Spears to bring this up? 1.00

00:55:35.520 Why are you basing this on the Britney Spears case?

00:55:38.040 Why didn't you bring this up before?

00:55:40.380 See, there are a lot of people who are today pretending to be experts on conservatorships.

00:55:44.320 Oh, you know, this is a major problem in this country.

00:55:46.180 Yeah, it's a big problem.

00:55:48.260 Yeah, but you never mentioned a word about that until Britney Spears was in the news.

00:55:51.880 Why is that?

00:55:52.440 If it's a big problem, where was your conservatorship reform movement before this?

00:55:58.140 As for the Spears case specifically,

00:56:03.400 is it true that she's being oppressed and abused by her conservatorship?

00:56:07.760 Is it true that the courts ought to free her?

00:56:10.580 Before we can answer that, if we can answer it,

00:56:12.540 we should establish one thing.

00:56:16.000 It is certainly possible, in principle, for an adult to exhibit behavior

00:56:19.140 which would lead to them losing the right to make decisions for themselves.

00:56:22.640 Severely mentally ill people exist.

00:56:24.720 Yes, dangerous and suicidal people exist.

00:56:27.660 That's why we have mental institutions.

00:56:29.620 That's why we have conservatorships.

00:56:32.220 The way some people are talking about this case,

00:56:34.180 it's as though they object, in principle,

00:56:36.480 to the very idea that any adult should be deprived of the right to make decisions.

00:56:41.720 Like, the way that they say,

00:56:42.760 oh, she's an adult, she should make decisions. 0.97

00:56:44.340 Well, yes, but what if she's crazy?

00:56:47.300 Are you saying that no one should have their decision-making power taken from them at all?

00:56:51.280 Well, if that's your argument,

00:56:55.040 then you're arguing for the abolition of all mental asylums and psychiatric hospitals.

00:57:01.040 You're arguing that any person, no matter how disturbed,

00:57:04.660 no matter how erratic or self-destructive,

00:57:06.700 should be permitted to continue making choices for themselves,

00:57:09.140 even if those choices are almost guaranteed to lead to them harming themselves,

00:57:12.200 or other people, or their own children.

00:57:15.500 Now, you're free to make that argument, 1.00

00:57:17.180 but it's an absurd and stupid argument, 1.00

00:57:19.160 and not one that any intelligent person should take seriously. 1.00

00:57:23.300 Rational people can see 0.96

00:57:24.560 that dangerously irrational people exist,

00:57:28.480 and sometimes, on rare occasion,

00:57:30.120 remember, we're only talking about 0.3% here,

00:57:32.720 steps must be taken to bring them under control

00:57:34.760 for their own safety and the safety of others.

00:57:38.580 If we've established that,

00:57:39.860 if we can agree that conservatorships exist for a reason,

00:57:42.440 and should continue to exist,

00:57:44.340 then the only question is whether Britney Spears

00:57:46.660 should be under one or not.

00:57:49.100 In order to say no to that question,

00:57:51.600 we would need to have evidence,

00:57:53.540 compelling evidence,

00:57:54.720 that she is mentally competent.

00:57:58.380 Do we in the public have that evidence?

00:58:01.400 No.

00:58:02.980 What do we have?

00:58:04.600 We have her Instagram page,

00:58:06.440 where just this weekend,

00:58:07.440 she posted topless pictures.

00:58:08.980 Now, that's not illegal.

00:58:10.840 I'm not saying anyone who posted topless pictures

00:58:12.820 should have their decision-making rights

00:58:14.900 taken away from them.

00:58:16.680 But is it a normal and rational thing to do

00:58:19.360 when you're in the middle of a legal battle

00:58:21.460 over your conservatorship?

00:58:24.280 You're posting naked pictures online?

00:58:26.900 Is that something that a normal,

00:58:29.600 healthy-minded person does?

00:58:33.120 But we have that.

00:58:34.840 We have a documentary produced by the New York Times

00:58:36.940 in which Spears fans and Spears advocates

00:58:39.860 and lawyers unaffiliated with the case

00:58:42.440 were interviewed.

00:58:43.920 And we have Britney's own public statements. 1.00

00:58:46.520 Okay, that's all the evidence we have

00:58:48.460 to support the assertion

00:58:49.400 that she is mentally competent.

00:58:51.400 In other words,

00:58:52.400 we have nothing.

00:58:53.800 We have no evidence.

00:58:56.240 Do we have evidence that Britney Spears

00:58:57.700 should be under the conservatorship?

00:59:00.200 Well, yeah, we do.

00:59:02.020 We know that Spears had multiple psychotic meltdowns 0.67

00:59:04.800 in public.

00:59:05.440 I mean, we saw it happen,

00:59:06.580 so that's how we know it happened.

00:59:08.400 We know that Spears was not granted

00:59:10.100 majority custody

00:59:11.060 or even half custody of her children, 0.91

00:59:13.540 which is a profound statement in and of itself.

00:59:15.600 If you know anything about

00:59:16.340 the way family court works,

00:59:17.880 especially in California,

00:59:19.640 for a woman to get like a 70-30 arrangement, 1.00

00:59:24.460 where she might have lost custody completely,

00:59:26.660 whichever it was,

00:59:27.400 she did not have even majority custody.

00:59:29.520 For that to happen,

00:59:31.840 there's got to be something really wrong

00:59:33.900 with that woman.

00:59:35.600 We also know that every judge

00:59:37.100 that's looked at the case

00:59:38.020 and examined her psychological evaluation

00:59:39.840 have found that she's mentally unfit. 0.95

00:59:42.980 Does all of this mean

00:59:44.100 that we in the peanut gallery

00:59:45.240 can conclusively determine

00:59:46.520 that Britney Spears

00:59:47.280 should be under a conservatorship?

00:59:48.740 No.

00:59:49.920 We can't conclusively determine anything

00:59:51.640 because we don't know her

00:59:53.020 and we don't know the case

00:59:54.640 and we don't have access

00:59:56.320 to almost any of the relevant information.

00:59:58.940 I keep hearing from people,

00:59:59.900 oh, we grew up with Britney Spears.

01:00:01.720 We know her.

01:00:02.440 Oh, you didn't grow up with Britney Spears.

01:00:03.820 You grew up watching

01:00:05.380 some music videos of her.

01:00:07.580 You did not grow up with her.

01:00:09.040 You don't know her.

01:00:12.280 But the facts,

01:00:13.340 what little facts we have access to,

01:00:14.880 would seem to be leaning pretty heavily

01:00:16.400 against the Free Britney movement.

01:00:18.600 A movement, again,

01:00:19.460 spurred on by people

01:00:20.340 who have made utterly baseless

01:00:21.960 legal and psychological determinations.

01:00:24.760 A bunch of fans

01:00:25.700 with Free Britney signs

01:00:26.740 have just decided

01:00:27.720 that Britney is mentally fit.

01:00:29.400 They have absolutely no evidence

01:00:32.500 to support this claim.

01:00:33.960 None at all.

01:00:36.080 But let's say that Britney 0.87

01:00:36.760 should be under a conservatorship.

01:00:38.120 Let's just say that.

01:00:39.440 Let's say that she's 1.00

01:00:40.200 mentally incompetent 1.00

01:00:41.200 and a danger to herself or others. 0.75

01:00:44.060 Would that automatically mean

01:00:45.380 that nothing abusive

01:00:46.200 is happening to her

01:00:47.040 under the guise

01:00:47.720 of this legal arrangement?

01:00:48.800 No.

01:00:49.680 She claims, for instance,

01:00:50.780 that she is forced to use an IUD

01:00:52.820 and not allowed to have

01:00:53.880 any more children.

01:00:54.920 That would be a horrible injustice.

01:00:56.520 But then again,

01:00:57.360 the key word here is claims.

01:00:59.600 She claims that this is happening.

01:01:01.820 The only evidence we have

01:01:03.040 of this claim

01:01:03.560 is the claim itself,

01:01:04.820 which she made

01:01:05.680 to a judge recently.

01:01:06.800 Here's the full transcript

01:01:07.780 of that moment.

01:01:08.420 I'm going to read this to you.

01:01:10.140 So when you hear this thing

01:01:10.780 about the IUD,

01:01:11.580 this is where people

01:01:12.060 are getting it from.

01:01:12.680 This is the only place

01:01:13.580 they're getting it from.

01:01:15.340 Here's the transcript

01:01:16.200 where she mentions that

01:01:17.220 to the judge.

01:01:18.520 She says,

01:01:19.980 Team wants me to work

01:01:21.740 and stay home

01:01:22.340 instead of having

01:01:22.860 longer vacations.

01:01:24.080 They're used to me

01:01:24.720 sort of doing a weekly routine

01:01:25.940 for them,

01:01:26.280 and I'm over it.

01:01:26.940 I don't feel like I owe them

01:01:27.820 anything at this point.

01:01:28.580 But they need to be reminded

01:01:29.780 they actually work for me.

01:01:30.840 I was supposed to be able to.

01:01:31.960 I have a friend

01:01:32.500 that I used to do AA meetings with.

01:01:34.540 I did AA for two years.

01:01:35.860 I did three meetings a week.

01:01:36.880 I've met a bunch of women there. 1.00

01:01:38.200 And I'm not able to see my friends

01:01:39.440 that live eight minutes away from me,

01:01:40.660 which I find extremely strange.

01:01:42.160 I feel like they're making me feel

01:01:43.280 like I live in a rehab program.

01:01:44.740 This is my home.

01:01:45.880 I'd like for my boyfriend

01:01:46.720 to be able to drive me in his car.

01:01:48.400 And I want to meet with a therapist

01:01:49.580 once a week, not twice.

01:01:50.680 And I want him to come to my home

01:01:52.100 because I actually do know

01:01:54.120 that I do need a little therapy.

01:01:55.580 Laughing.

01:01:56.800 I would like to progressively move forward

01:01:58.700 and I would want to have a real deal.

01:02:00.400 I want to be able to get married

01:02:01.420 and have a baby.

01:02:02.100 I was told right now

01:02:02.840 in the conservatorship,

01:02:03.800 I'm not able to get married

01:02:05.000 or have a baby.

01:02:05.880 I have an IUD inside of myself right now

01:02:08.060 so I don't get pregnant.

01:02:09.200 I want to take the IUD out

01:02:10.320 so I could start trying

01:02:11.760 to have another baby.

01:02:12.520 But this so-called team

01:02:13.460 won't let me go to the doctor

01:02:14.380 to take it out

01:02:14.900 because they don't want me

01:02:16.200 to have children,

01:02:17.000 any more children.

01:02:17.600 So basically,

01:02:18.640 this conservatorship

01:02:19.360 is doing way more harm than good.

01:02:22.800 So she complains 0.99

01:02:23.920 that she wants longer vacations.

01:02:25.640 She wants to go to therapy

01:02:26.500 once a week instead of two.

01:02:27.980 And she wants her boyfriend 1.00

01:02:28.700 to be able to drive her.

01:02:29.800 Then at the end,

01:02:30.520 as an aside,

01:02:31.240 she just throws in the claim 1.00

01:02:32.320 about the IUD.

01:02:34.140 Doesn't explain how this even works.

01:02:35.680 Did they physically force

01:02:36.840 the IUD into her?

01:02:38.500 And what if she goes

01:02:39.120 to the doctor to remove it?

01:02:40.880 Will the doctor

01:02:41.500 actually refuse to do it?

01:02:44.080 Doesn't bother to explain.

01:02:46.100 She doesn't seem to think

01:02:46.860 that the IUD issue

01:02:47.660 is as important

01:02:48.540 as the fact that

01:02:49.200 she isn't allowed 0.96

01:02:49.700 to take longer vacations.

01:02:52.100 Perhaps the claim

01:02:52.900 is still true.

01:02:54.260 But who knows?

01:02:56.200 Well, someone knows.

01:02:57.880 She knows.

01:02:58.620 Her dad knows.

01:02:59.860 The judge might know.

01:03:01.680 I don't know.

01:03:03.080 Neither do you.

01:03:04.320 In fact,

01:03:04.980 you know almost nothing

01:03:06.580 about any of this.

01:03:08.540 And the same goes for me.

01:03:10.960 That seems to be

01:03:11.760 the overarching theme here.

01:03:13.300 A bunch of people

01:03:14.280 who know almost nothing

01:03:15.820 and have no evidence

01:03:17.260 of any kind

01:03:18.140 and have access

01:03:19.260 to none of the relevant information

01:03:21.040 have nonetheless

01:03:22.260 made sweeping determinations

01:03:23.560 and are now calling

01:03:24.720 for legal decisions

01:03:25.520 to be made

01:03:26.000 based on their assumptions.

01:03:28.840 The whole thing

01:03:29.660 is absurd

01:03:30.160 and strange

01:03:31.480 and embarrassing.

01:03:33.740 And we have more important

01:03:34.800 things to be worried about

01:03:35.480 in this country.

01:03:36.920 And for that reason,

01:03:38.100 I must say

01:03:38.820 that the Free Britney movement

01:03:41.200 is today canceled.

01:03:42.840 And we'll leave it there

01:03:44.920 on a note

01:03:46.300 that I'm sure

01:03:46.680 we'll find

01:03:47.100 wide approval

01:03:48.000 and agreement.

01:03:49.740 Have a great day.

01:03:51.400 Godspeed.
