00:00:54.920 we'll make sure it's heard. Now, let's dive into Scamala Kamala Harris unmasked and see what the
00:01:00.180 left doesn't want you to know. When most Americans first became aware of Kamala Harris,
00:01:05.780 she was already a senator, and she'd already been touted by the legacy media as a potential
00:01:09.740 presidential candidate. There's a great district attorney in San Francisco whose name is Kamala
00:01:14.000 Harris. She's brilliant. She's smart. She doesn't look anything like anybody you ever see on Law and
00:01:18.940 order, yet she's tough, and she's got a big future. They call her the female Barack Obama.
00:01:23.780 There was a reason for that. From the day Barack Obama called her the hottest woman in American
00:01:27.980 politics. I happen to mention that Kamala Harris is the best-looking attorney general in the country.
00:01:32.700 She had been treated as the next big thing, a female Barack Obama. But something funny happened
00:01:37.840 on the way to the presidency. The public got to know Kamala Harris, and the more they saw her,
00:01:42.360 the less they liked her. Her grasping, manipulative inauthenticity grew stronger with every
00:01:47.300 public display. The more Kamala Harris wanted it, the less the American public wanted her.
00:01:57.940 Kamala Harris was sworn into the United States Senate as a senator from California in January 2017.
00:02:03.420 She was determined to make her mark, not in terms of legislation or policy, but in terms of celebrity.
00:02:08.780 The day after her inauguration, she spoke at the Women's March, where she praised the
00:02:12.760 pussy-hatted brigade for their bravery. What a beautiful sight I see. What do my eyes behold?
00:02:19.920 This is an extraordinary day, and we all should be extremely, extremely proud.
00:02:27.500 The circus had begun. Kamala's chief role in the Senate was to play prosecutor. But where she had
00:02:32.440 once appeared even spoken and even somewhat genuine, she now had developed verbal and linguistic
00:02:36.980 tics that made her annoying and cloying. She nodded her head in vehement agreement with herself.
00:02:41.660 Her hand motions were too large, too practiced. Her voice ranged into nasal indignation at every
00:02:47.220 turn. And every questioning was a righteously furious assault.
00:02:50.700 So are you aware that there are local law enforcement—
00:02:53.140 Do you like me at least finish once before you interrupt me?
00:02:55.440 Sir, with all due respect.
00:02:57.120 With all due respect, Senator.
00:02:58.600 Desperate for attention, Kamala tried to play up her supposed authenticity,
00:03:02.220 and at every turn, became more inauthentic.
00:03:04.800 Well, the first thing we've got to do is to speak the truth. And the truth is that these
00:03:09.400 folks are playing politics with public health. So they're engaged in all of this happy talk
00:03:14.720 that is not truth.
00:03:19.220 Let's just go into 2018 and be joyful warriors.
00:03:22.420 I like that term, joyful warriors.
00:03:24.440 Yeah.
00:03:24.940 Kamala was active in the ouster of Senator Al Franken. After the Minnesota senator was caught with his hands
00:03:29.380 in the cookie jar, or rather, near the breast of talk show host years before in a picture captured
00:03:33.620 while that host was asleep, Kamala quickly came out for Al Franken's resignation. That,
00:03:38.720 conveniently enough, opened up a slot for her on the Judiciary Committee. And it was from there
00:03:42.700 that Kamala truly began to unleash her unpleasant persona. In 2017, interviewing Attorney General
00:03:47.920 Jeff Sessions, she would not allow him to answer questions and talked over him.
00:03:51.260 The policy is based...
00:03:52.500 Did you ask that it would be shown to you?
00:03:55.000 The policy is based on the principle that the president...
00:03:59.320 Sir, I'm not asking about the principle. I'm asking when you...
00:04:01.960 Well, I'm not able to answer the question.
00:04:03.460 ...that you would be asked these questions and you would rely on that policy.
00:04:05.860 Did you not ask your staff to show you the policy that would be the basis for you refusing
00:04:10.880 to answer the majority of questions that have been asked of you?
00:04:12.620 The witness shouldn't be allowed to answer the question.
00:04:14.760 In the aftermath, she would complain of being interrupted. The media would predictably pick up that narrative.
00:04:19.200 But Kamala's Senate starring role was yet to come. That starring role came in 2018,
00:04:24.980 when Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy resigned at the age of 81.
00:04:28.440 President Donald Trump, guided by the scholars at the Federalist Society,
00:04:31.460 picked D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Brett Kavanaugh to fill the slot.
00:04:35.360 Kamala saw this as her time to shine. She would single-handedly destroy Kavanaugh and save the
00:04:41.380 Constitution. She immediately released a statement, minutes after his nomination,
00:04:45.400 calling him a, quote, direct and fundamental threat to the promise of equality.
00:04:49.200 At the very first hearing, she launched into a long speech introducing herself to the American
00:04:54.380 public as a presidential candidate.
00:04:56.300 I was starting kindergarten. And I was a bus, in a bus, a school bus, on my way to Thousand Oaks
00:05:04.340 Elementary School as part of the second class of students as bussing desegregated Berkeley,
00:05:12.300 California public schools.
00:05:13.840 All of this was merely the beginning of Kamala's dishonest pyrotechnics.
00:05:17.080 At the time of the Kavanaugh hearings, the Robert Mueller special investigation into supposed Russian
00:05:21.840 collusion with the 2016 Trump campaign was the top story in the news. So Kamala decided to ask
00:05:26.960 Kavanaugh about whether he himself had been involved in some way in the case. To do so,
00:05:31.600 she threw out a weird theory that Kavanaugh had talked with someone at the firm of Kasowitz,
00:05:36.460 Benson & Torres, the law firm for President Trump, about Robert Mueller. Kavanaugh clearly had no idea what
00:05:42.220 Kamala was getting at. But she persisted. Have you had any conversation about Robert Mueller
00:05:49.080 or his investigation with anyone at that firm?
00:05:55.840 Yes or no?
00:05:57.200 Well, is there a person you're talking to?
00:05:59.360 I'm asking you a very direct question. Yes or no?
00:06:02.220 I need to know the... I'm not sure I know everyone who works at that law firm.
00:06:06.340 I don't think you need to. I think you need to know who you talked with.
00:06:08.920 Who'd you talk to?
00:06:10.220 The next day, all of the focus was on Kamala. Who was she suggesting Kavanaugh had talked to?
00:06:15.540 What sort of corrupt arrangement was she uncovering? The answer? She had nothing. The entire accusation
00:06:21.240 was total nonsense. She literally tried to manufacture a gotcha out of whole cloth in an
00:06:26.120 attempt to catch Kavanaugh in what is called a perjury lie, where somebody lies by accident and
00:06:30.880 then is prosecuted. It didn't work. But all of that was prelude to the big show. On September 16th,
00:06:36.520 2018, the Washington Post came forward with an extraordinary accusation against Kavanaugh,
00:06:41.260 an accusation from California professor Christine Blasey Ford. Ford alleged that as a teenager some
00:06:46.080 four decades before, she had attended a party where Kavanaugh and his high school friends were drunk
00:06:50.500 and attempted to hurt her. She could not name the location, the date, or the time of the party.
00:06:55.020 She could not name any of the other people present at the party. It turns out that Ford had attempted
00:06:59.240 to make the allegation anonymously originally. She had called Representative Anna Eshoo of California,
00:07:04.060 who had referred that story to Senator Dianne Feinstein. Feinstein had asked for a letter
00:07:08.120 with the details. Presumably, Feinstein didn't find the story all that compelling because it went
00:07:12.380 nowhere. Later, Eshoo went to Kamala Harris. And then all of a sudden, the information began leaking
00:07:17.900 to the press. Before Ford's testimony, Kamala did an interview with CBS News in which she touted
00:07:22.220 Ford's heroism and said she believed Ford even though she'd never actually talked to her.
00:07:26.100 I believe her.
00:07:27.040 Blasey Ford eventually testified before the Senate. Her testimony was vague and questionable.
00:07:31.260 I was pushed onto the bed and Brett got on top of me. He began running his hands over my body
00:07:38.660 and grinding into me. I believed he was going to me. I tried to yell for help. Brett's assault on me
00:07:47.340 drastically altered my life. For a very long time, I was too afraid and ashamed to tell anyone
00:07:54.980 these details. But Kamala stepped in again to call her a hero.
00:07:58.600 You are sitting here before members of the United States Senate's Judiciary Committee
00:08:04.720 because you had the courage to come forward. I want to thank you for your courage and I want
00:08:11.400 to tell you I believe you. I believe you. And I believe many Americans across this country believe
00:08:17.560 you.
00:08:17.940 None of this stopped Kamala, who questioned Kavanaugh savagely.
00:08:20.820 Judge Kavanaugh, have you taken a professionally administered polygraph test as it relates to this
00:08:25.560 issue? So I'm going to ask you one last time. Are you willing to ask the White House to authorize
00:08:32.180 the FBI to investigate the claims that have been made against you? Do you agree that it is possible
00:08:38.540 for men to both be friends with some women and treat other women badly?
00:08:46.680 These were scurrilous attacks designed to destroy Brett Kavanaugh as a judicial nominee and as a man.
00:08:51.640 Kavanaugh would defend himself in passionate terms.
00:08:54.220 This whole two-week effort has been a calculated and orchestrated political hit,
00:09:00.640 fueled with apparent pent-up anger about President Trump and the 2016 election,
00:09:08.080 fear that has been unfairly stoked about my judicial record, revenge on behalf of the Clintons,
00:09:14.980 and millions of dollars in money from outside left-wing opposition groups.
00:09:22.880 This is a circus.
00:09:25.080 And indeed, Kavanaugh would be confirmed by the Senate on October 6th, 2018.
00:09:29.100 Kamala had her moment and the launch point for her presidential campaign.
00:09:33.160 Indeed, she announced for the presidency just months later, January 21st, 2019.
00:09:37.280 I stand before you today, clear-eyed, about the fight ahead and what has to be done.
00:09:47.300 With faith in God, with fidelity to country, and with the fighting spirit I got from my mother,
00:09:56.440 I stand before you today to announce my candidacy for President of the United States.

00:11:23.680 Kamala's campaign for the presidency started like a house of fire.
00:11:26.560 The media, focusing on her intersectional credentials, a black woman, a second Obama,
00:11:30.940 saw her as an early frontrunner in what would undoubtedly be a crowded field.
00:11:35.120 Early polling put her at the top of the Democratic keep, second only to Bernie Sanders,
00:11:38.940 whom it was broadly believed would decline as the field consolidated.
00:11:42.280 Kamala Harris launched her presidential campaign on Martin Luther King Jr. Day,
00:11:45.460 with a rally in her hometown of Oakland, California.
00:11:48.120 The event drew an estimated 20,000 people, and she attempted to position herself as both the underdog
00:11:52.420 and the popular choice of the black community, like Barack Obama before her.
00:11:56.220 Ditching her tough-on-crime, top-cop talk, she spoke of herself as a progressive prosecutor,
00:12:01.440 ready to bring justice and equality to the forefront of American politics.
00:12:04.840 I'm running to fight for an America where no mother or father has to teach their young son
00:12:14.520 that people may stop him, arrest him, chase him, or kill him because of his race.
00:12:23.800 She was positioning herself on the left of the Democratic Party
00:12:26.420 in an attempt to shoulder out potential competitors like Beto O'Rourke of Texas
00:12:29.800 and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, both of whom were widely perceived as direct competitors.
00:12:33.740 America's story has always been written by people who can see what can be unburdened by what has been.
00:12:45.240 She branded her campaign Kamala for the people.
00:12:48.540 That branding was a mistake.
00:12:50.280 Kamala had never been a populist politician.
00:12:52.600 She'd always been the candidate of the elite Democratic Party.
00:12:55.480 Her logo was a disaster area, confusion of too many words and bizarre color scheme.
00:12:59.320 And her for the people slogan, a riff on the prosecutor's introduction in court,
00:13:03.240 Kamala Harris for the people, Your Honor, fell absolutely flat.
00:13:07.380 Nonetheless, she raised huge cash out of the gate.
00:13:09.880 During the first 24 hours of her campaign, she cleared $1.5 million in donations,
00:13:14.440 tying Bernie Sanders' 2016 launch record.
00:13:17.340 Within weeks, though, she would begin to flounder.
00:13:19.500 In February 2019, an actor named Jussie Smollett alleged that he had been beaten
00:13:23.320 in the middle of the night on the streets of Chicago by two white men wearing red hats.
00:13:27.980 The two men had been shouting,
00:13:29.660 This is MAGA country!
00:13:31.160 As they looped a rope around his neck and threw bleach on him.
00:13:33.740 Who says f*** empire f***?
00:13:38.980 This MAGA country f***?
00:13:41.000 Seeking to be the first out of the gate to capitalize on this sensational story,
00:13:44.720 Harris tweeted that this was a modern-day lynching,
00:13:47.340 and suggested that the alleged incident serve as the basis for pushing a law she supported.
00:13:51.460 As should have been obvious from the outset, however, the story was a lie.
00:13:55.000 Harris had to backtrack.
00:13:56.080 She also jumped into controversy surrounding Joe Biden,
00:13:58.720 her chief rival from the Democratic political center.
00:14:01.300 When seven women came forward claiming that Biden had engaged in an unwanted touching,
00:14:05.220 Kamala claimed she believed the women.
00:14:07.040 I believe them, and I respect them being able to tell their story and have a person to do it.
00:14:13.840 The money train rolled on.
00:14:15.180 During the first quarter of the year, she raised $12 million,
00:14:17.520 a solid showing for a candidate on the rise.
00:14:19.800 Still, Kamala's campaign struggled with internal organization from the beginning.
00:14:23.160 Reports of infighting, lack of clear strategy, and inconsistent messaging began to surface,
00:14:27.680 hinting at deeper issues that would plague her run.
00:14:29.760 Those stories, of course, would only break out into the open as her campaign began to melt down.
00:14:34.020 That meltdown, surprisingly, began with what should have been Kamala's breakout moment.
00:14:38.080 During the first debate of the primary season, June 27th, 2019,
00:14:41.940 Kamala, through luck of the draw, there were two groups of Democratic candidates,
00:14:45.200 faced off against Bernie Sanders and, in particular, Joe Biden,
00:14:47.900 the former Obama vice president and new presidential frontrunner.
00:14:50.740 This was her opportunity to knock Biden out of the race and to steal his voting base.
00:14:54.820 And she took it.
00:14:55.680 First, she set herself up as the adult in the room by intervening in a spat between other candidates.
00:14:59.700 America does not want to witness a food fight.
00:15:01.920 They want to know how we're going to put food on their table.
00:15:04.320 A canned line went over well, somehow.
00:15:06.560 But then Kamala got serious.
00:15:08.180 She slammed Biden as a racist.
00:15:09.600 It was hurtful to hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators
00:15:17.620 who built their reputations and career on the segregation of race in this country.
00:15:24.560 And it was not only that, but you also worked with them to oppose busing.
00:15:30.260 And, you know, there was a little girl in California who was part of the second class
00:15:37.020 to integrate her public schools.
00:15:39.220 And she was bused to school every day.
00:15:42.360 And that little girl was me.
00:15:44.380 This confrontation brought her significant attention and a temporary boost in the polls.
00:15:48.320 CNN headline,
00:15:49.260 Harris's attack on Joe Biden steals spotlight at Democratic primary debate.
00:15:53.160 Her campaign website began selling merch reading,
00:15:55.160 That little girl was me.
00:15:56.220 Pollsters suggested that her support had doubled from 8% before the debate nationally
00:16:00.260 to 17% afterward.
00:16:02.260 She raised $2 million within 24 hours.
00:16:04.520 But this moment of glory was short-lived.
00:16:06.740 Kamala's inability to sustain the momentum revealed a critical weakness.
00:16:10.600 Unpreparedness.
00:16:11.400 As with Justice Kavanaugh, Kamala could launch an attack,
00:16:13.980 but she rarely backed it up.
00:16:15.180 She had no command of details or evidence.
00:16:17.180 Her walk back began almost immediately,
00:16:18.900 with Joe Biden's comments on national television
00:16:20.740 suggesting that her remarks were baseless and scurrilous.
00:16:23.140 I thought we were friends, and I hope we still will be.
00:16:26.640 You know, she asked me to go out and call me and asked me to go to her convention
00:16:31.400 and be the guy from outside of California to nominate her at her convention for the Senate seat.
00:16:37.720 I did.
00:16:38.340 On MSNBC's Morning Joe, Kamala softened and walked back her attack on Biden.
00:16:41.900 So he shouldn't have worked with them, is what you're saying?
00:16:44.000 I'm saying, no, I'm saying that the characterization and the nostalgia
00:16:50.100 about who they were, I find to be misplaced.
00:16:56.820 And it was hurtful to me to hear that we would be nostalgic about people who,
00:17:03.480 if they had their way, I would not serve in the United States Senate.
00:17:06.500 Her position in Biden's on busing were substantially the same.
00:17:09.500 Kamala's policy positions were another area of concern.
00:17:12.360 Her stance on health care was emblematic of her campaign's broader issues.
00:17:15.640 Initially, Kamala supported Bernie Sanders' Medicare for All plan,
00:17:18.600 which would eliminate private insurance.
00:17:20.220 She even went on television and said so.
00:17:21.700 I believe the solution, and I actually feel very strongly about this,
00:17:25.540 is that we need to have Medicare for All.
00:17:27.560 But as criticism mounted, particularly from centrist voters and health care professionals,
00:17:31.260 she wavered.
00:17:32.060 The role of private insurance, are you limiting that to something like cosmetic insurance?
00:17:37.420 Or what is the exact role of private insurance?
00:17:39.920 To cover what is not otherwise covered.
00:17:41.800 So that includes what?
00:17:43.120 Very little, because almost everything will be covered.
00:17:46.000 Kamala tried to strike a middle ground, proposing a plan that would maintain private insurance options
00:17:49.600 while moving toward universal coverage.
00:17:51.180 This flip-flop alienated both progressives and moderates,
00:17:54.160 leaving her without any solid base of support.
00:17:56.340 Her inconsistency extended to other issues as well.
00:17:59.060 On criminal justice reform, Kamala struggled to reconcile her record
00:18:02.260 as a tough-on-crime prosecutor with her new progressive platform.
00:18:05.660 During a televised town hall, Kamala was asked about her stance on the death penalty
00:18:08.940 for convicted cop killers.
00:18:10.500 Her response was a convoluted attempt to balance her past actions
00:18:13.340 with her current campaign platform, resulting in a muddled message that pleased no one.
00:18:17.700 My career has been based on an understanding, one, that as a prosecutor,
00:18:22.420 my duty was to seek and make sure that the most vulnerable and voiceless among us are protected.
00:18:27.500 And that is why I have personally prosecuted violent crime that includes rape,
00:18:32.240 child molestation, and homicide.
00:18:34.480 And I have also worked my entire career to reform the criminal justice system,
00:18:38.580 understanding, to your point, that it is deeply flawed and in need of repair.
00:18:42.420 Critics on the left and the right pointed to her past actions,
00:18:45.240 such as her defense of the death penalty and her handling of truancy laws,
00:18:48.140 which disproportionately affected low-income and minority communities.
00:18:51.240 These contradictions eroded her credibility and trustworthiness.
00:18:54.020 People were beginning to see through Kamala Harris' act.
00:18:56.640 The real problem, however, was not Kamala's politics.
00:18:59.180 It was her personality.
00:19:00.420 Treated with kid gloves for her entire career,
00:19:02.420 Kamala's sudden fame exposed her, sanded off all the varnish.
00:19:05.400 It became clearer day after day that she was simply unlikable.
00:19:09.180 Kamala quickly became the race's most inauthentic politician.
00:19:11.560 Her most obvious foible was an unfortunate behavioral tick.
00:19:15.080 When asked a tough question, she would break into nearly uncontrollable laughter.
00:19:18.680 Whether during interviews or debates,
00:19:20.280 Kamala's tendency to laugh at inappropriate times
00:19:22.260 often came across as dismissive, out of touch, just plain weird.
00:19:26.080 This behavior was not just a minor quirk.
00:19:27.940 It became a symbol of her inability to connect with voters on a deeper level.
00:19:31.300 And that too.
00:19:35.480 I bet he's entitled to his opinion.
00:19:37.780 Well, I think we've got a couple of issues, Chris, with that.
00:19:42.780 I was the only one in the room who thought we were still in the game.
00:19:47.560 All of these issues broke out into the open at the next Democratic primary debate on July 31st, 2019.
00:19:52.780 Joe Biden opened the debate by approaching Kamala for a handshake,
00:19:55.300 muttering, go easy on me, kid.
00:19:56.820 Go easy on me, kid.
00:19:58.300 How you doing?
00:19:58.900 You good?
00:19:59.760 You good?
00:20:00.380 Jake Tapper of CNN brought up the attack from the last debate,
00:20:03.080 and Kamala did exactly what Joe Biden wanted.
00:20:05.480 She went easy on him.
00:20:06.460 Vice President Biden was in the United States Senate working with segregationists
00:20:11.040 to oppose busing, which was the vehicle by which we would integrate America's public schools.
00:20:18.140 Had I been in the United States Senate at that time,
00:20:20.640 I would have been completely on the other side of the aisle.
00:20:23.240 And let's be clear about this.
00:20:24.940 Had those segregationists there away,
00:20:27.300 I would not be a member of the United States Senate.
00:20:29.620 Cory Booker would not be a member of the United States Senate.
00:20:31.840 And Barack Obama would not have been in a position to nominate him to the title he now holds.
00:20:37.420 But that wasn't the moment that killed the Harris campaign.
00:20:39.740 That moment came at the hands of former Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard,
00:20:42.880 running at Kamala from both the left and the center.
00:20:45.540 Gabbard delivered a scathing critique that many viewed as a death blow to Harris's candidacy.
00:20:49.740 Gabbard began by accusing Kamala of hypocrisy,
00:20:52.200 pointing out that despite presenting herself as a progressive reformer,
00:20:54.940 her record told a different story.
00:20:56.480 She highlighted that Kamala had blocked evidence that would have freed an innocent man from death row,
00:20:59.940 a charge that struck at the heart of Kamala's claims to fairness and justice.
00:21:03.200 I want to bring the conversation back to the broken criminal justice system
00:21:06.560 that is disproportionately negatively impacting black and brown people all across this country today.
00:21:13.360 Now, Senator Harris says she's proud of her record as a prosecutor
00:21:16.800 and that she'll be a prosecutor president, but I'm deeply concerned about this record.
00:21:21.120 There are too many examples to cite,
00:21:22.920 but she put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations
00:21:26.480 and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana.
00:21:30.160 She blocked evidence.
00:21:32.420 She blocked evidence that would have freed an innocent man from death row
00:21:37.500 until the courts forced her to do so.
00:21:39.800 She kept people in prison beyond their sentences
00:21:42.180 to use them as cheap labor for the state of California.
00:21:45.440 And she fought to keep cash bail system in place
00:21:49.220 that impacts poor people in the worst kind of way.
00:21:52.320 Senator Harris, when you were in a position to make a difference
00:21:55.760 and an impact in these people's lives, you did not.
00:21:58.960 And worse yet, in the case of those who were on death row, innocent people,
00:22:03.660 you actually blocked evidence from being revealed that would have freed them
00:22:07.600 until you were forced to do so.
00:22:09.520 There is no excuse for that.
00:22:11.000 And the people who suffered under your reign as prosecutor,
00:22:14.540 you owe them an apology.
00:22:16.540 This was, of course, the first time she'd ever publicly faced serious pushback.
00:22:20.240 And she collapsed in the face of Gabbard's withering assault.
00:22:23.200 The media and public reaction to the exchange was swift and harsh.
00:22:25.980 Many declared Gabbard the clear winner of that debate segment
00:22:28.080 and declared Harris on the ropes.
00:22:30.140 Kamala attempted to deflect by attacking Gabbard's own record
00:22:32.440 and questioning her standing in the race.
00:22:34.140 These responses fell flat.
00:22:35.440 They failed to address the substantive criticisms that had been laid out.
00:22:38.100 I think that it's unfortunate that we have someone on the stage
00:22:42.760 who is attempting to be the Democratic nominee for president of the United States,
00:22:46.860 who during the Obama administration spent four years full-time on Fox News
00:22:51.660 criticizing President Obama.
00:22:53.480 That's ridiculous, Senator Harris.
00:22:55.200 That's ridiculous.
00:22:55.840 Who has spent full-time criticizing people on this stage
00:22:59.780 as affiliated with the Democratic Party.
00:23:02.820 The confrontation significantly damaged Kamala's campaign.
00:23:05.860 Her poll numbers dropped precipitously.
00:23:07.600 And the criticism from Gabbard stuck with voters,
00:23:09.840 casting serious doubt on Kamala's authenticity and trustworthiness.
00:23:13.320 Gabbard's attack was not just a momentary setback,
00:23:15.120 but a turning point from which Kamala's campaign never recovered.
00:23:18.060 It highlighted the vulnerabilities and contradictions in Kamala's record.
00:23:21.260 And her inability to effectively counter those criticisms in real time
00:23:24.560 underscored the lack of preparedness and strategic depth within her campaign.
00:23:28.420 Meanwhile, Kamala's gaps became more and more unwatchable.
00:23:34.840 This is a conversation I have heard in every campaign I have,
00:23:39.640 and now here is the operative word, won.
00:23:41.860 And y'all are looking at me, okay, Kamala, why do you say this?
00:23:47.280 Why do you think we have so much more in common than what separates us?
00:23:50.040 Well, I'll tell you.
00:23:51.660 I know it based on every personal and professional experience I've had,
00:23:56.020 and I know it based on what I call the three-in-the-morning thought.
00:23:59.980 Okay, y'all looking at me, where are you going with this?
00:24:02.020 Okay.
00:24:02.680 Her inauthenticity was like an onion.
00:24:04.480 Peel one layer, find another layer of inauthenticity beneath.
00:24:07.140 Her most virally inauthentic moment came when her campaign got a bus.
00:24:10.180 Senator Harris is kicking off a five-day bus tour.
00:24:13.240 Look at my bus!
00:24:15.020 Oh my God, I love it!
00:24:16.900 The mockery was immense and well-deserved.
00:24:19.200 In response, Kamala attended big-dollar fundraisers,
00:24:21.920 avoided the campaign trail, avoided the press.
00:24:24.140 That was, of course, where she was most comfortable
00:24:25.800 with the money people in the Democratic Party.
00:24:28.180 Kamala for the people, indeed.
00:24:30.140 As the campaign progressed, Kamala's support steadily continued to decline.
00:24:33.920 By the fall of 2019, her poll numbers had cratered.
00:24:36.500 Her fundraising efforts were faltering.
00:24:37.820 Despite her attempts to shift her campaign's focus to Iowa,
00:24:40.540 she wasn't picking up ground even there.
00:24:42.520 Internal campaign memos revealed a chaotic organization,
00:24:45.600 with staff turnover and a lack of cohesive strategy
00:24:47.820 contributing to the campaign's unraveling.
00:24:49.940 Politico reported in October 2019 that Harris was, quote,
00:24:53.100 hemorrhaging cash and in danger of lacking the resources
00:24:55.640 to mount a competitive bid against better-funded rivals in Iowa.
00:24:58.880 Kamala attempted to reshuffle the cards in order to
00:25:00.980 rescue a campaign that was still being viewed
00:25:03.120 as a likely early-stage juggernaut just three months ago.
00:25:05.720 On November 29th, the New York Times ran an expose on Kamala's campaign.
00:25:09.820 It was effectively a campaign obituary.
00:25:11.780 Noting that she was the only 2020 Democrat
00:25:13.660 who has fallen hard out of the top tier of candidates,
00:25:16.300 the Times called her an uneven campaigner
00:25:18.340 who changes her message and tactics to little effect
00:25:20.500 and has a staff torn into factions.
00:25:22.560 The Times reported a resignation letter
00:25:24.080 from Kelly Mellenbacher, the state operations director.
00:25:26.960 In it, Mellenbacher excoriated the campaign, quote,
00:25:29.360 This is my third presidential campaign,
00:25:31.380 and I have never seen an organization treat its staff so poorly.
00:25:34.400 Mellenbacher saved particular ire for Maya Harris, Kamala's sister,
00:25:37.460 the campaign chairwoman.
00:25:38.880 The Times reported that her, quote,
00:25:40.340 decline is more predictable than surprising.
00:25:42.420 The organizational unsteadiness of Ms. Harris' campaign
00:25:44.660 reflects a longtime personal trait, according to allies.
00:25:47.660 She is a candidate who seeks input from a stable of advisors,
00:25:50.420 but her personal political convictions can be unclear.
00:25:53.100 That was a very nice way of saying the obvious.
00:25:55.160 Kamala Harris had no principles.
00:25:56.900 By December, facing dwindling resources
00:25:59.180 and an insurmountable gap in the polls,
00:26:01.260 Kamala made the decision to suspend her campaign.
00:26:03.480 In her withdrawal statement, Kamala cited financial difficulties
00:26:05.980 and the need to focus on uniting the Democratic Party.
00:26:08.580 So here's the deal, guys.
00:26:10.300 My campaign for president simply does not have
00:26:13.040 the financial resources to continue
00:26:15.480 and the financial resources we need to continue.
00:26:18.800 I'm not a billionaire.
00:26:20.400 I can't fund my own campaign.
00:26:22.140 And as the campaign has gone on,
00:26:23.700 it has become harder and harder to raise the money we need
00:26:26.880 to compete.
00:26:28.620 In good faith, I cannot tell you, my supporters and volunteers,
00:26:32.920 that I have a path forward if I don't believe I do.
00:26:37.500 So to you, my supporters, my dear supporters,
00:26:41.380 it is with deep regret, but also with deep gratitude,
00:26:45.040 that I am suspending our campaign today.
00:26:48.020 But I want to be clear with you.
00:26:49.760 I am still very much in this fight.
00:26:53.520 And I will keep fighting every day for what this campaign has been about.
00:26:58.800 Justice for the people.
00:27:01.700 All the people.
00:27:02.960 However, the reality was clear.
00:27:04.800 She had poisoned herself with the voters,
00:27:06.420 and her campaign had been a full-scale disaster area.
00:27:09.280 Mr. Vice President, I'm speaking.
00:27:10.940 I have to weigh in.
00:27:11.300 I'm speaking.
00:27:12.120 Let's talk about the fact.
00:27:13.640 Yeah, I'm about to.
00:27:15.380 Wait.
00:27:16.040 I'm speaking.
00:27:16.960 It would be important if you said the truth.
00:27:19.120 If you don't mind letting me finish.
00:27:20.980 For the next few months, Kamala struggled.
00:27:22.840 She remained critical of Joe Biden.
00:27:24.480 In March 2020, when Tara Reid came forward and accused Biden of sexual assault,
00:27:28.340 Kamala backed Reid's case.
00:27:29.920 But in reality, Biden was in good electoral shape.
00:27:32.780 Kamala was out in the wilderness.
00:27:34.400 But it still wasn't over for her.
00:27:36.560 Kamala Harris may have had one of the most spectacular collapses
00:27:39.100 of any presidential candidate in modern history,
00:27:41.200 but she still had one thing going for her.
00:27:43.360 She was a black woman.
00:27:44.560 And that advantage made itself apparent with the death of George Floyd.
00:27:48.040 Kamala was an awkward candidate to play racial conflagrationist.
00:27:51.140 She was a former prosecutor married to a white man
00:27:52.980 without any serious record in left-wing race-baiting.
00:27:55.480 But the Democratic Party under nominee Joe Biden, an old white man, was desperate.
00:27:59.720 And there was Kamala, waiting.
00:28:01.560 Floyd's death ignited widespread rioting and cries from the left to defund the police.
00:28:05.340 That same month, Kamala Harris sought to reposition herself yet again,
00:28:08.600 this time as a racial justice warrior.
00:28:10.840 On June 1st, as riots burned,
00:28:12.380 Kamala tweeted out a call to chip in to the Minnesota Freedom Fund
00:28:15.540 to, quote,
00:28:16.100 post-fail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota.
00:28:18.740 Those weren't protesters, they were rioters.
00:28:20.600 And now Kamala, the former top cop, was supporting them.
00:28:23.900 Meanwhile, as Joe Biden finished up his victorious primary campaign,
00:28:26.880 he needed to please his black voting base,
00:28:28.640 the people who had elevated him to the nomination over Bernie Sanders.
00:28:31.380 He couldn't do so himself.
00:28:32.680 He had been one of the architects of the 1994 criminal justice scheme
00:28:35.640 that ended with large-scale incarceration disproportionately among black men.
00:28:39.340 And so he had to pander.
00:28:40.560 Within weeks of Floyd's death, the so-called racial justice movement in his name
00:28:44.140 began calling for Biden to pick a black woman for his running mate.
00:28:47.060 That push had actually begun in April,
00:28:48.460 when some 200 black female leaders and activists within the Democratic Party
00:28:51.620 signed an open letter demanding a black female VP pick from Biden.
00:28:55.260 They held a call with Biden in May.
00:28:56.760 And in June, Biden announced that he would be seeking just that, a black woman.
00:29:00.420 On July 20th, Biden said he had four black women on his vice presidential shortlist.
00:29:04.780 Among them, there are four black women.
00:29:06.840 So that decision is underway right now.
00:29:09.340 One of those women was Kamala Harris.
00:29:11.760 She was the most qualified.
00:29:13.140 The other two were House members and a national security advisor.
00:29:16.020 And only one of the possibilities had the support of the ex-president
00:29:18.760 and sole reason for Joe Biden's political success at the age of 77, Barack Obama.
00:29:24.200 Behind the scenes, Obama played a pivotal role in Kamala's selection.
00:29:27.380 He recommended her selection to Biden.
00:29:28.960 His endorsement was crucial,
00:29:30.240 as it helped to alleviate concerns within the party about Kamala's controversial record
00:29:33.840 and bolster her candidacy with his considerable political capital.
00:29:37.760 Obama's support also helped to overcome opposition from Jill Biden,
00:29:41.240 who, according to all reports, disliked Kamala strongly since her scurrilous attacks on Joe.
00:29:45.980 Now, the woman Obama had once called the hottest attorney general in the nation
00:29:48.800 was about to be placed one heartbeat from Obama's old job.
00:29:51.700 On August 11th, 2020, Joe Biden announced that Kamala Harris would be his vice presidential running mate.
00:29:57.340 I have the great honor to announce that I picked Kamala Harris,
00:29:59.660 a fearless fighter for the little guy,
00:30:01.240 one of the country's finest public servants, as my running mate, Biden tweeted.
00:30:04.600 For her part, Kamala was now ready to bend the knee,
00:30:06.960 saying Biden, quote,
00:30:07.700 can unify the American people because he's spent his life fighting for us.
00:30:10.700 And as president, he'll build an America that lives up to our ideals.
00:30:13.580 I'm honored to join him as our party's nominee for vice president
00:30:16.240 and do what it takes to make him our commander in chief.
00:30:18.760 I have no doubt that I picked the right person to join me
00:30:22.760 as the next vice president of the United States of America,
00:30:25.840 and that's Senator Kamala Harris.
00:30:27.800 Is the answer yes?
00:30:29.120 The answer is absolutely yes, Joe, and I am ready to work.
00:30:33.080 I am ready to do this with you, for you.
00:30:35.920 I just, I'm just deeply honored.
00:30:39.420 Kamala's chemistry with Biden was weak.
00:30:41.780 They didn't know how to interact with one another.
00:30:43.920 Biden wanted her to be seen, but not heard.
00:30:45.960 He wanted to show her off as the intersectional future
00:30:48.340 without having to take her input.
00:30:50.000 All of that was made apparent during a joint introductory interview
00:30:52.380 on August 23rd, where the two seemed ill at ease.
00:30:55.260 Well, thank you both for sitting down with us.
00:30:57.240 Thanks for having us.
00:30:58.140 Thank you.
00:30:58.940 The process wouldn't become any easier.
00:31:01.020 Kamala was, as always, an awkward campaigner
00:31:02.940 with no expertise on any relevant issue.
00:31:05.000 Her gaffes once again began to pile up.
00:31:06.580 For us at every moment in time, and certainly this one,
00:31:10.900 to see the moment in time,
00:31:14.080 which is why we will work together and continue to work together
00:31:17.200 to address these issues, to tackle these challenges,
00:31:21.080 and to work together as we continue to work,
00:31:25.220 operating from the new norms, rules, and agreements
00:31:29.160 that we will convene to work together on.
00:31:33.560 The significance of the passage of time.
00:31:36.340 So when you think about it,
00:31:37.820 there is great significance to the passage of time
00:31:40.460 in terms of what we need to do.
00:31:42.360 There's this whole conversation that's been coming up
00:31:44.360 about electability.
00:31:47.900 Focused on our campaign.
00:31:49.300 Is America ready for that?
00:31:52.920 Well, yes, they are.
00:31:54.220 Space is exciting.
00:31:55.460 It spurs our imaginations.
00:32:00.300 And it forces us to ask big questions.
00:32:04.920 Kamala's vice presidential campaign
00:32:06.280 was intended to be a showcase of her abilities,
00:32:08.520 a testament to her historic candidacy.
00:32:10.800 Instead, it became a glaring exposition
00:32:12.660 on her political inadequacies and public relations missteps.
00:32:16.320 The vice presidential debate,
00:32:17.500 juxtaposing Kamala with Vice President Mike Pence,
00:32:19.680 was supposed to be a shining moment for Kamala.
00:32:21.780 Her strategy was simple.
00:32:23.300 Play the victim.
00:32:23.780 From the outset, she attempted to recreate
00:32:26.100 some of her greatest hits from the Senate.
00:32:27.620 In particular, her early PR success,
00:32:29.600 claiming that she'd been victimized
00:32:31.020 by men who interrupted her.
00:32:32.520 Only this time, she would not be interrupted.
00:32:34.780 Mr. Vice President, I'm speaking.
00:32:36.960 Well, wait.
00:32:37.760 I'm speaking.
00:32:38.680 It'd be important if you said the truth.
00:32:41.520 Joe Biden said twice in the debate last week
00:32:43.820 that he's going to repeal the Trump tax cuts.
00:32:46.340 That was tax cuts that gave the average working family
00:32:49.320 $2,000 in a tax break every single year.
00:32:53.320 That is absolutely not true.
00:32:56.480 Is he only going to repeal part of the Trump tax cuts?
00:33:00.180 If you don't mind letting me finish,
00:33:02.200 we can then have a conversation, okay?
00:33:04.180 Please.
00:33:04.640 Okay.
00:33:05.340 Well, let's get...
00:33:06.080 No, but Susan, this is important.
00:33:07.920 And I want to add, but Mr. Vice President, I'm speaking.
00:33:10.260 I have to weigh in.
00:33:10.780 But like everything else with Kamala,
00:33:12.980 the whole routine was forced and phony.
00:33:15.080 Pence, an unfailingly polite candidate,
00:33:16.920 never attempted to bully Kamala,
00:33:18.380 instead leaving her in the bizarre position
00:33:19.840 of playing the wronged victim
00:33:21.040 in the absence of any victimization.
00:33:23.500 Despite Kamala's attempts to sell a new set of merch
00:33:25.540 on the back of her debate performance,
00:33:27.060 I'm speaking,
00:33:28.280 the attack fell flat.
00:33:29.940 It was the beginning of a long night for Kamala,
00:33:31.640 who once again fell short in command of the issues
00:33:33.600 and couldn't defend her own record.
00:33:35.220 When questioned about her previous support
00:33:36.780 for the Green New Deal,
00:33:37.620 Kamala attempted to distance herself
00:33:39.380 from the controversial elements of the proposal,
00:33:41.520 despite having co-sponsored it in the Senate.
00:33:43.320 And the American people know
00:33:44.780 that Joe Biden will not ban fracking.
00:33:48.480 That is a fact.
00:33:50.320 That is a fact.
00:33:52.180 I will repeat that Joe Biden has been very clear
00:33:57.060 that he thinks about growing jobs,
00:34:00.360 which is why he will not increase taxes
00:34:02.260 for anyone who makes less than $400,000 a year.
00:34:05.360 Joe Biden's economic plan,
00:34:08.600 Moody's, which is a reputable Wall Street firm,
00:34:12.000 has said will create 7 million more jobs
00:34:14.400 than Donald Trump's.
00:34:16.700 And part of those jobs that will be created by Joe Biden
00:34:19.760 are going to be about clean energy
00:34:22.320 and renewable energy.
00:34:24.000 This flip-flopping only served, again,
00:34:26.220 to reinforce the perception
00:34:27.360 that Kamala lacked a firm stance on critical policies.
00:34:30.460 Additionally, her failure to adequately address
00:34:32.240 Pence's pushback on the administration's handling
00:34:34.100 of COVID-19 and the economy lapsed into incoherence.
00:34:37.800 The debate also exposed Kamala's difficulties
00:34:39.720 in articulating a clear, compelling vision for the future.
00:34:42.600 While Pence methodically laid out
00:34:43.900 the Trump administration's accomplishments and plans,
00:34:46.140 Kamala often relied on broad statements
00:34:47.700 and emotional appeals lacking specificity.
00:34:50.480 In the end, Kamala's performance was saved,
00:34:52.560 not by her, but by a rogue fly
00:34:54.300 that landed on Mike Pence's head.
00:34:56.140 On such minor things, campaigns turn.
00:34:58.100 To the men and women who serve in law enforcement,
00:35:00.700 and I want everyone to know
00:35:01.920 who puts on the uniform of law enforcement every day.
00:35:04.980 And President Trump and I stand with you.
00:35:07.840 While Biden maintained his lead
00:35:08.980 over President Trump in the polls,
00:35:10.420 problems continued to swirl around Kamala.
00:35:12.660 Allegations resurfaced regarding her handling
00:35:14.580 of sexual harassment complaints
00:35:15.880 while serving as California's attorney general.
00:35:18.460 Under Kamala's tenure,
00:35:19.540 the California Department of Justice
00:35:20.800 had paid out $1.1 million in settlements
00:35:23.240 related to sexual harassment claims.
00:35:25.160 That included a notable case involving
00:35:26.980 one of her top aides, Larry Wallace,
00:35:28.600 who resigned after a $400,000 settlement was made
00:35:31.460 following accusations of harassment.
00:35:34.240 Kamala's response to these incidents
00:35:35.600 were inadequate and evasive.
00:35:37.200 Once again, her dishonesty was on full display.
00:35:39.920 Kamala's team claimed they were unaware of the issues
00:35:41.820 until they were made public,
00:35:43.140 a statement met with widespread skepticism.
00:35:45.800 Kamala, who had attempted to build her career
00:35:47.400 on advocating for victims
00:35:48.520 and promoting accountability,
00:35:49.840 had yet again failed to implement these values
00:35:51.520 within her very own office.
00:35:53.220 In the end, though,
00:35:54.040 Kamala was indeed elected vice president,
00:35:55.720 riding Biden's coattails
00:35:56.640 to the second highest office in the land.
00:35:58.760 Even her announcement of her victory online
00:36:00.260 was awkward and off-putting.
00:36:01.880 We did it.
00:36:02.920 We did it, Joe.
00:36:04.920 For his part,
00:36:05.580 Biden touted her as his potential successor,
00:36:07.620 telling interviews that if he disagreed with Kamala,
00:36:09.780 perhaps he would step down.
00:36:11.140 A fundamental disagreement we have
00:36:13.220 based on a moral principle,
00:36:15.440 I'll develop some disease
00:36:18.640 and say I have to resign.
00:36:20.420 But Kamala's lackluster showing
00:36:21.660 as a failed presidential candidate,
00:36:23.100 and then again as vice president,
00:36:24.680 put her on thin ice.
00:36:25.580 She'd soon break that ice.
