00:00:30.000 Good morning, everyone. I'm Megan Kelly. It's Tuesday, October 13th, 2026. And this is your
00:00:38.260 AM update. I think that the national political environment and general consumer concerns
00:00:44.240 have raised the idea that maybe a U.S. Senator Roger Marshall might be the wrong person at this
00:00:50.580 time. A Senate race in Kansas suddenly becoming competitive for the first time in decades as new
00:00:56.800 Polling raises questions about whether Democrats could pull off a historic upset.
00:01:01.800 I mean, even just over this weekend, Musk was tweeting multiple times about James Tallarico.
00:01:06.760 They have an extensive field operation in Texas.
00:01:09.540 Elon Musk quietly pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into the midterms,
00:01:13.720 despite taking a backseat on the campaign trail.
00:01:16.960 Sean Diddy Combs rushed out of federal prison in the middle of the night by ambulance
00:01:21.840 amid reports of a serious injury.
00:01:24.840 And Kimberly Guilfoyle's future as U.S. ambassador to Greece in jeopardy, as new allegations of
00:01:30.540 misconduct leave Trump administration officials angry and the president weighing whether to fire
00:01:35.800 her. All that and more coming up in just a moment on your AM Update.

00:02:43.720 slash Megan. Check it out. Democrats making a major investment in the Kansas Senate race
00:02:51.740 as new polling shows incumbent Republican Senator Roger Marshall locked in a tight contest against
00:02:57.320 Democrat Adam Hamilton. According to CNN, Senate Majority PAC, that's the leading super PAC
00:03:03.560 supporting Democrat Senate candidates, committing $5 million to the race, while Republicans are
00:03:09.240 spending nearly $10 million on advertising to defend Marshall's seat in this red state.
00:03:15.500 The spending coming after a recent New York Times poll finding Marshall and Hamilton tied
00:03:20.040 at 45% among likely voters. The prediction market Calci, meantime, showing a somewhat
00:03:26.300 different picture, with traders pricing the Republican Marshall's chances of winning at
00:03:30.880 61% compared to 39% for Hamilton. However, just two months ago, Marshall's chances of victory
00:03:37.880 were at more than 80%, showing the trajectory of this race. Give our sponsor Kalshi a try by using
00:03:44.660 code MEGAN KELLY or clicking the link in the description. All new users get $25 free when
00:03:50.700 they trade $25. It's fun. The Cook Political Report also moving the race from lean Republican
00:03:56.380 to toss-up last week in a state that has not elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate since
00:04:01.620 1932. Kansas now joins Texas, Alaska, and Iowa on a growing list of traditionally Republican states
00:04:09.560 where Democrats are investing in hopes of picking up Senate seats come November.
00:04:14.240 President Trump winning Kansas by 16 points in 2024, though the New York Times poll finding
00:04:19.660 55 percent of likely voters there disapprove of his job performance now. Democrats hoping to
00:04:26.520 benefit from an unconventional candidate in Adam Hamilton, a prominent Methodist pastor leading a
00:04:32.140 Kansas City-area megachurch serving approximately 24,000 members. Hamilton, a registered Republican
00:04:38.680 until February of this year, before launching his Senate campaign as a Democrat in April.
00:04:44.720 Now describing himself as an independent-minded Democrat, Hamilton making a point of distancing
00:04:49.880 himself from the party's national leadership. The candidate telling CNN he would not support
00:04:54.860 Chuck Schumer as Senate leader, while his campaign reportedly rejected an offer from
00:04:59.440 a sitting Democrat senator to campaign on his behalf. Hamilton also picking up support from
00:05:04.540 prominent Republicans in Kansas, including former governors Mike Hayden and Bill Graves,
00:05:09.600 both of whom have endorsed the Democrat over Marshall. The two former governors accuse
00:05:14.880 Senator Marshall of putting national Republican politics ahead of the interests of Kansas voters.
00:05:21.100 Senator Marshall, meanwhile, pushing back on Hamilton's claims of political independence,
00:05:26.020 accusing his Democrat opponent of misleading voters about his longstanding support for
00:05:30.820 Dems. In an ex-post yesterday, Mr. Marshall calling Hamilton, quote, the ultimate snake
00:05:35.620 oil salesman, pointing to his past donations to Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris.
00:05:42.240 The senator also highlighting Hamilton's recent comments on ABC News,
00:05:46.080 in which the candidate acknowledged that Obama inspired him politically nearly two decades ago.
00:05:52.460 We spoke with Kansas Reflector politics reporter Tim Carpenter, who recently served as a media
00:05:58.140 panelist during a debate between Marshall and Hamilton at the Kansas State Fair. Carpenter
00:06:04.120 offering his assessment of the political environment and describing what he observed
00:06:08.640 firsthand during the debate. I think that the national political environment,
00:06:13.220 where you have President Trump advocating for policies that are actually detrimental to
00:06:17.760 much of rural Kansas, tariffs, war, fuel prices, and then general consumer concerns have raised
00:06:25.360 the idea that maybe a U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, who has been a very, very loyal to the president,
00:06:32.140 might be the wrong person at this time. I was part of a panel of journalists who
00:06:36.640 threw questions at these two U.S. Senate candidates at a debate at the state fair
00:06:42.200 recently. And the crowd was noticeably more irritated with the incumbent, Senator Marshall,
00:06:50.320 than it was the challenger, Mr. Hamilton. So this is an unexpected event, but maybe national issues
00:06:57.600 and maybe the demeanor of the current U.S. senator have triggered this.
00:07:04.180 Carpenter also pointing to economic concerns facing rural Kansas, describing how Hamilton
00:07:09.220 is positioning himself as the alternative to the incumbent.
00:07:13.360 You can always follow the money. The economy is rocked in Kansas. Rural economy is in terrible
00:07:19.060 shape. And you have in Adam Hamilton a centrist. His campaign is completely and utterly built
00:07:25.180 around being a centrist and trying to dissolve some of the hostility and craziness that comes
00:07:31.960 out of Washington, D.C. And so that's really at the core of his message. Let's get rid of the
00:07:37.740 chaos. Let's get rid of some of these tariffs that Trump imposed. There's issues with health
00:07:43.720 care costs. And I just think all of these things that can be understood by conservatives,
00:07:51.400 independent and Democratic voters are what's resonating here. And they don't believe that
00:07:57.040 Roger Marshall, as he has endorsed much of the president's agenda, has done much to push back
00:08:03.640 on those issues. Carpenter also weighing in on Marshall's attacks on Democrat Hamilton
00:08:09.540 and how they're playing with Kansas voters. One of the things that Marshall has said from
00:08:14.480 the beginning is that the Hamilton, who's the leader of a very large church, is too woke. He's
00:08:20.960 too liberal. And define woke. I mean, help people understand that. One other thing about this you
00:08:27.360 got to remember is that a Democrat in in Kansas is not a California Democrat or a New York
00:08:34.220 Democrat. This is a pretty conservative state. And even Democrats have a real conservative streak.
00:08:40.280 So when Roger Marshall says that Hamilton is a socialist, people don't even know how to relate
00:08:45.880 to that. I mean, a socialist, really? Do they exist in Kansas? Elon Musk quietly pouring
00:08:54.020 hundreds of millions of dollars into Republican efforts to hold on to Congress, despite taking a
00:08:59.860 much less visible role in this year's midterm elections. According to the New York Times,
00:09:04.860 the billionaire donating more than $276 million, or in Elon's world, lunch money, to Republican
00:09:12.020 political groups since July alone, and more than $366 million during the 2025-26 cycle,
00:09:19.300 making him by far the largest known donor in the midterms.
00:09:23.580 The largest contribution going to the Senate Leadership Fund,
00:09:26.940 that's the leading super PAC supporting Republican Senate candidates,
00:09:30.200 which received $158 million from Musk over the summer.
00:09:34.400 Musk also directing more than $76 million to America PAC,
00:09:38.160 the political organization he established during the 24 presidential election,
00:09:42.580 to help turn out Republican voters.
00:09:44.840 The $366 million from Musk surpassing the roughly $290 million he spent
00:09:49.700 helping elect President Trump and other Republicans in 2024.
00:09:54.640 The spending marking a dramatic reversal from May of last year
00:09:58.140 when Musk publicly declared he intended to significantly scale back his political contributions.
00:10:04.460 Despite spending more than ever, Musk largely staying out of the spotlight this election cycle.
00:10:09.920 The Times reporting the world's richest man has taken a more hands-off approach to his political
00:10:15.160 operation, focusing on his businesses and leaving much of the day-to-day decision-making
00:10:19.920 to his advisors. A notable departure from 2024 when Musk regularly appeared alongside President
00:10:27.040 Trump and personally campaigned for Republican candidates. The two men appearing to have
00:10:32.420 repaired their relationship following their highly publicized falling out last year,
00:10:36.300 attending several events together in recent weeks. Texas emerging as a major focus of Musk's
00:10:42.440 political spending, particularly the closely watched Senate race between Republican Ken
00:10:47.500 Paxton and Democrat James Tallarico. New York Times political reporter Theodore Schleifer
00:10:53.420 explaining to MS Now yesterday why the billionaire is concentrating so much attention on his adopted
00:10:59.760 home state. This year, he is kind of spending the most, it seems, in Texas, the state where he lives,
00:11:06.040 It's a state where he has extensive business interests.
00:11:08.720 It's the state where he appears the most animated by at least the Democratic candidate.
00:11:13.460 I mean, even just over this weekend, Musk was tweeting multiple times about James Tallarico.
00:11:18.140 They have an extensive field operation in Texas.
00:11:21.380 Musk donated $10 million to the super PAC behind Ken Paxson, James Tallarico's opponent.
00:11:27.220 But essentially, you know, the geography may be different than in 2024, but a lot of the tactics are the same.
00:11:31.900 You know, people may remember Musk was placing a huge emphasis on registering voters.
00:11:37.360 He was, you know, carrying these big oversized checks that, you know, he would hand out for up to a million dollars to people who signed a petition that he was circulating.
00:11:46.840 A lot of a lot of this is the same.
00:11:48.900 There are some things that are different.
00:11:49.880 Elon is not as involved personally in kind of what he's doing compared to 20 to 2024.
00:11:55.400 But a lot of this rhymes with what we saw for two years ago.
00:11:59.700 Mark Halperin reporting Musk and his advisers are considering spending an additional $50
00:12:04.260 to $200 million in Texas alone between now and Election Day.
00:12:09.160 According to four sources who spoke to Halperin, that money would support an extensive voter
00:12:13.800 turnout operation, TV advertising, and a digital campaign.
00:12:19.760 Coming up, Sean Diddy Combs leaving the big house in an ambulance after a medical emergency,
00:12:25.360 and Kimberly Guilfoyle facing new scrutiny over her conduct as U.S. ambassador to Greece
00:12:31.740 as President Trump makes clear he is, quote, not happy.

00:13:39.600 Sean Diddy Combs leaving federal lockup by ambulance over the weekend for a medical
00:13:44.160 emergency. According to TMZ, the disgraced music mogul who's serving an over four-year prison
00:13:49.860 sentence on a prostitution-related conviction needing treatment for a head injury. The outlet
00:13:55.640 reporting he was gone just a few hours, leaving around 1 a.m., returning before 7. It's not clear
00:14:01.560 how he was injured or where he was treated, but the injury was reportedly non-life-threatening.
00:14:07.420 Sources telling TMZ the 56-year-old was conscious and speaking when he was taken back to the prison
00:14:12.260 before sunrise Saturday. The trip to the hospital coming after what has been an eventful few weeks
00:14:18.440 for Combs. Combs recently moved to solitary confinement at the low-security prison over
00:14:24.260 what was described as disruptive conduct. The officials then stripping him of his 41 days of
00:14:29.860 good conduct credit, which inmates can earn toward early release. That penalty pushing his release
00:14:35.800 date from January 2028 to March of the same year, according to TMZ. President Trump confirming on
00:14:44.560 Monday that he is considering firing U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle as
00:14:49.800 mounting allegations of misconduct threaten her diplomatic career. The Associated Press
00:14:55.340 reporting Sunday that President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are very angry
00:14:59.920 over recent allegations and could make a decision about Guilfoyle's future sometime this week.
00:15:05.900 President Trump addressing the reports yesterday evening outside the White House.
00:15:14.560 yeah, we're not happy. One senior U.S. official telling the AP Secretary Rubio is particularly
00:15:20.160 upset following his visit to Athens last week, during which Guilfoyle accompanied him to several
00:15:26.020 events and greeted him with a hug, even as the allegations against her continued to mount.
00:15:31.560 The New York Post also reporting Guilfoyle is now on what one source close to the White House
00:15:35.640 describes as, quote, very thin ice. The latest controversy stemming from a new Wall Street
00:15:41.180 Journal investigation detailing the former Fox News host's relationships with wealthy Greek
00:15:46.280 businessmen who allegedly financed her luxury travel and attempts to secure a high-profile
00:15:52.260 dinner invitation, creating conflicts of interest. The Journal obtaining an audio recording of
00:15:58.100 Guilfoyle speaking to an American businessman at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland,
00:16:03.640 back in January, while attempting to secure an invitation to an exclusive dinner honoring
00:16:08.680 Eric Trump. Guilfoyle reportedly promising the businessman lucrative opportunities if he helped
00:16:14.900 her gain entry, telling him, quote, I'm going to make you a lot of fucking money. The ambassador 0.99
00:16:20.420 also expressing outrage that she had been excluded from the guest list, insisting the event's
00:16:25.620 organizer should be showing her considerably more respect. Guilfoyle ultimately attending the dinner
00:16:31.220 after securing a last-minute invitation. The same recording also reportedly capturing Guilfoyle
00:16:36.680 discussing her extensive travels with two prominent Greek businessmen. Among them,
00:16:42.060 Alexandros Exarhu, the CEO of construction giant Aktor Group. The journal previously reporting
00:16:48.620 Guilfoyle had encouraged several European governments to purchase billions of dollars
00:16:53.300 in natural gas through Exarhu's company. His private jet then took her to Davos,
00:16:59.540 raising questions about her involvement in advancing his business interests,
00:17:03.360 possibly in exchange for personal benefits. The recording also revealing Guilfoyle's close
00:17:09.140 relationship with Greek shipping magnate Nicholas Tsakos, who she said was arranging
00:17:14.160 her transportation to Paris for his wife's fashion show. According to the journal, the
00:17:19.420 magnate also covering Guilfoyle's accommodations at the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel George V
00:17:25.900 during that trip. The report follows earlier revelations from the journal about Guilfoyle's
00:17:30.860 alleged efforts to persuade a Trump donor to cover $100,000 of her American Express bill
00:17:37.420 ahead of her Senate confirmation hearing, the ambassador allegedly offering in exchange to
00:17:42.660 use her political connections to help said donor resolve personal, legal, and financial problems.
00:17:48.760 Gelfoyle's attorneys dispute the allegations, maintaining the money represented outstanding
00:17:53.140 payments for speaking engagements and public appearances arranged before her nomination,
00:17:58.560 which the donor denies. The controversy also extending to Guilfoyle's management of the
00:18:04.020 American embassy in Athens. The Daily Mail reporting last week that embassy employees
00:18:08.680 had accused Guilfoyle of creating a hostile work environment, including allegedly berating staff
00:18:14.320 members and threatening their jobs. Guilfoyle's representatives rejecting suggestions she
00:18:19.520 violated any ethics rules. A spokesman for the U.S. embassy in Athens telling the Wall Street
00:18:24.460 Journal that Guilfoyle has complied with State Department requirements governing gifts and
00:18:29.560 financial disclosures while dismissing the allegations as unsubstantiated distractions
00:18:33.960 from her diplomatic work. According to the Wall Street Journal, the State Department's
00:18:38.620 inspector general is investigating the allegations. And that'll do it for your AM update. I'm Megan
