The Megyn Kelly Show - Dems Ignore Garcia Reality, Karmelo Anthony Family Speaks Out, Bernie Flies Private： AM Update 4⧸18

00:00:00.000 Good morning, everyone. I'm Megan Kelly. It's Friday, April 18th, 2025. And this is your

00:00:08.320 AM update. Nobody has any communication with him since he was illegally abducted from Maryland

00:00:15.140 and sent to Seacott prison in El Salvador. Democrat Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland

00:00:21.880 again attempting a wellness check on accused MS-13 gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia and

00:00:29.220 miraculously late last night, posting a casual photo of the two of them together at last.

00:00:36.560 President Trump targeting Fed Chair Jerome Powell's decision to leave interest rates where they are.

00:00:41.560 Black people in America don't have to pull the race car. It's what we live as a reality every day.

00:00:49.120 The family of 17-year-old accused killer Carmelo Anthony in Texas speaks out,

00:00:54.340 blaming Trump, oppression, and the media. And Bernie Sanders and AOC railing against the rich

00:01:00.940 as they travel like the 1%. All that and more coming up in just a moment on your AM update. 0.98

00:01:08.600 As President Trump begins his new administration, one of the top Democrats in Congress aiming to

00:01:13.240 undermine the Trump agenda is Senator Dick Durbin. And according to our sponsor, the Electronic Payments

00:01:18.200 Coalition, Senator Durbin has a new scheme, a government takeover of your credit card. Today,

00:01:24.080 Americans have thousands of choices in credit cards, but they say Senator Durbin's plan will

00:01:28.320 result in less competition and less security. And that means more risk to your credit and your

00:01:32.940 identity. Learn more at guardyourcard.org and consider telling your senators to stop Dick Durbin's

00:01:39.640 government takeover of your credit card before it's too late.

00:01:46.300 Democrat Senator from Maryland, Chris Van Hollen, attempting again to access the El Salvador prison

00:01:51.940 holding Kilmar Abrego Garcia. The senator persisting in his fight despite newly surfaced evidence

00:01:58.620 linking Mr. Abrego Garcia to MS-13 and reports of past domestic violence. The vice president of El

00:02:06.040 Salvador on Wednesday, denying Senator Van Hollen access to the terrorism confinement center. On

00:02:11.800 Thursday, the senator attempting to enter on his own and denied again, this time at a military

00:02:18.580 checkpoint. We just tried to go visit him in prison just to check on his conditions. Nobody has any

00:02:28.520 communication with him since he was illegally abducted from Maryland and sent to SICOT prison in El

00:02:37.800 Salvador. Today's purpose was just to see what his health condition is. And these soldiers were ordered

00:02:44.920 to prevent us from going any farther. And then late last night, a surprise post from the senator on X,

00:02:53.120 a photo of Senator Van Hollen sitting with Garcia himself and writing, quote, I said my main goal of

00:02:59.860 this trip was to meet with Kilmar. Tonight, I had that chance. I've called his wife, Jennifer, to pass

00:03:05.400 along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return. El Salvador

00:03:11.720 President Nayib Bukele posting his own message on X, writing, quote, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, miraculously

00:03:19.460 risen from the death camps and torture, now sipping margaritas with Senator Van Hollen in the tropical

00:03:26.140 paradise of El Salvador. Now that he's been confirmed healthy, he gets the honor of staying

00:03:32.020 in El Salvador's custody. Senator Van Hollen and the media clinging to a repeatedly debunked narrative

00:03:37.580 that Mr. Abrego Garcia is simply an innocent Maryland dad. Some press even calling him a, quote,

00:03:43.580 U.S. man. In reality, Mr. Abrego Garcia is a Salvadoran national. The Trump administration is

00:03:50.280 fighting a court battle over his status, maintaining that if returned to the U.S., Mr. Abrego Garcia will

00:03:56.320 be promptly deported again, consisting with rulings from not one but two immigration courts finding him

00:04:03.060 removable back in 2019, though not to El Salvador. For the last several weeks, Mr. Abrego Garcia's wife

00:04:09.920 making her husband's case to the cameras. The Trump administration has labeled him a human

00:04:14.960 trafficker, even an MS-13 gang leader. How do you respond to those claims? So everything they're

00:04:20.360 saying is wrong. My husband is a loving father, and what I know is he's an amazing husband, an amazing

00:04:27.940 father. That's who he truly is. On Thursday, Ms. Vasquez, who married Abrego Garcia in an ICE detention

00:04:35.480 center as a bid to prevent his 2019 deportation, confirming the court documents she filed against

00:04:42.140 him in 2020 and 2021 from the documents in Ms. Vasquez's own handwriting, quote, I was watching

00:04:49.780 on my laptop and he yelled to turn it off. He got angry, reached over to shut and threw my laptop

00:04:55.520 onto the floor, and the baby started to cry because he was putting pressure on him. It goes on, quote,

00:05:01.280 he then punched me, scratched me on my left eye, leaving me bleeding. Later that day, Ms. Vasquez 0.87

00:05:07.220 writes, quote, he got angry, started yelling again to the point that he ripped my shorts and shirt

00:05:12.560 off, grabbed me by my arm. I have marks on my left arm as well. Ms. Vasquez now saying, quote, things did

00:05:19.820 not escalate, and I decided not to follow through with the civil court process. The judge in Mr. Abrego

00:05:25.900 Garcia's case against the federal government now, Paula Zinnis, suggesting earlier this week the

00:05:30.880 government could face contempt charges for allegedly failing to comply with her order to facilitate the

00:05:36.560 return of Abrego Garcia. However, the Supreme Court ordered the government only to facilitate his

00:05:43.080 return, not to effectuate it. A.G. Pambandi describing it this way. President Bukele said he was not sending

00:05:51.060 him back. That's the end of the story. If he wanted to send him back, we would give him a plane ride back.

00:05:57.000 Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller saying there is no future in which Abrego Garcia is allowed to

00:06:02.880 stay in the United States. President Trump potentially setting the stage for an unprecedented

00:06:10.900 move, firing the chair of the Federal Reserve. The Fed, an independent agency, sets interest rates in

00:06:17.760 support of a dual mission, keeping inflation under control and supporting a strong job market. On

00:06:24.080 Wednesday, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said the Fed is holding off on rate cuts while President Trump's

00:06:29.420 trade deals play out. For the time being, we are well positioned to wait for greater clarity before

00:06:35.560 considering any adjustments to our policy stance. We continue to analyze the incoming data, the evolving

00:06:41.060 outlook and the balance of risks. On Thursday, President Trump responding to those comments on

00:06:45.880 Truth Social, quote, the European Central Bank, or ECB, is expected to cut interest rates for the seventh

00:06:52.420 time. And yet, too late, Jerome Powell of the Fed, who was always too late and wrong, yesterday issued a

00:06:59.980 report which was another and typical complete mess. Oil prices are down, groceries, even eggs, are down,

00:07:07.680 and the USA is getting rich on tariffs. Too late should have lowered interest rates like the ECB long ago.

00:07:14.100 But he should certainly lower them now. Powell's termination cannot come fast enough.

00:07:19.320 This latest round of tension between President Trump and Jerome Powell, yet another chapter in a

00:07:24.020 long-running and often public friction between them. Mr. Powell first appointed to the position

00:07:29.320 by President Trump in 2018, then reappointed by President Biden in 2022. The Fed chair serving

00:07:35.560 four-year terms, part of an effort to safeguard the central bank's independence from political influence.

00:07:40.500 President Trump's view of Mr. Powell often hinging on interest rate policy, praising the Fed chair when rates

00:07:46.800 are cut, slamming him when they're not. Mr. Powell making a point of defending the Fed's independence from the

00:07:53.400 executive branch at a press conference in November.

00:07:56.280 Some of the president's elect's advisors have suggested that you should resign. If he asked

00:08:02.220 you to leave, would you go? No. Do you believe the president has the power to fire or demote you and

00:08:08.260 has the Fed determined the legality of a president demoting at will any of the other governors with

00:08:14.220 leadership positions? Not permitted under the law. Not what? Not permitted under the law. The president is

00:08:20.480 constrained by a longstanding precedent, barring the removal of heads of independent agencies without

00:08:26.020 cause. A legal challenge now moving through the courts could change that and is widely expected

00:08:30.980 to land before the U.S. Supreme Court. But for now, President Trump's authority remains limited.

00:08:36.520 We spoke with Steve Eisman, the investor who famously predicted the 08 financial crash.

00:08:41.700 He says now is not the time to cut rates, warning that if Trump's trade deals deliver a surge in growth,

00:08:47.920 early rate cuts could backfire.

00:08:49.560 If I was in charge of the Fed, I wouldn't be doing anything right now. Because if President Trump

00:08:55.840 strikes a deal with every single country, the economy will take off and then you would not have

00:09:02.760 wanted to have cut rates. On the other hand, if we go into a trade war, there'll be a recession,

00:09:07.800 you'll cut rates. The impact of the Fed right now, either way, is marginal.

00:09:13.700 The entire stock market and global economy has been narrowed down right now to literally one

00:09:21.800 variable, President Trump and what happens in the negotiations that he has with all these

00:09:26.400 countries. Period. Nothing else matters.

00:09:29.780 Mr. Powell's term expires in May, 2026.

00:09:33.640 Coming up, the family of accused teenage killer Carmelo Anthony speaks out, blaming everyone,

00:09:39.580 but Carmelo. And Bernie Sanders and AOC railing against the rich as they travel like the 1%.

00:09:47.220 Now more than ever, it's important to shop with brands that share your values. And that's why I

00:09:53.820 want to tell you about Neemi Skincare. Built on faith, family, and freedom, Neemi is proudly pro-America.

00:10:00.980 With products made right here in the USA, they don't shy away from what they believe. While most

00:10:06.060 skincare brands are busy pushing progressive messaging, Neemi never did. And women across 0.64

00:10:11.180 the country noticed. And the products? Incredible. From gentle cleansers to age-defying creams,

00:10:17.700 Neemi offers clean, fragrance-free formulas, love the fragrance-free, that are safe for sensitive skin

00:10:36.140 your money to companies that do not respect your values, consider making the switch. Neemi Skincare,

00:10:42.100 where modern skincare meets timeless values.

00:10:48.360 The family of Carmelo Anthony, the 17-year-old Texas student accused of killing 17-year-old Austin

00:10:54.340 Metcalf in a dispute over a seat at a track meet in early April, is speaking out.

00:11:00.240 Dallas activist Dominique Alexander took to the mics first, and he noted that Jeff Metcalf,

00:11:06.760 father of the dead teenager, was present.

00:11:09.700 What we've seen at the beginning of this press conference, of the father being at this press

00:11:16.080 conference, these are my words, don't quote anybody, is a disrespect to the dignity of his son.

00:11:26.300 Next Generation Action Network, from the beginning, has respected the loss of life.

00:11:35.820 No matter our opinion of it, we have kept our opinion close.

00:11:42.780 Mr. Alexander, whose own rap sheet includes a felony conviction for injury to a child,

00:12:09.460 a two-year-old he was babysitting wound up in the ICU with severe brain injuries and what the doctor

00:12:15.480 said was clearly child abuse. Now, he's a representative of the Anthony family, after 0.97

00:12:21.140 Carmelo Anthony allegedly refused to move from a spot at a Texas track meet after Austin Metcalf told

00:12:27.780 him he was in the wrong team's tent. Police say Anthony threatened Metcalf, quote,

00:12:32.120 touch me and see what happens, that Metcalf then grabbed Anthony to move him, and Anthony stabbed

00:12:38.400 Metcalf in the heart. Anthony, who was granted bail and is on house arrest, is claiming self-defense,

00:12:45.220 a tough argument given that in Texas, self-defense is not available to one who provokes the attack

00:12:49.900 or who uses lethal force against a non-lethal threat. At the presser, Mr. Alexander blamed many

00:12:56.700 things, but not his client. While the current occupant sits at 1600 Pennsylvania, black people 0.90

00:13:05.240 in America don't have to pull the race card. It's what we live as a reality every day. How many of y'all

00:13:13.800 have asked a superintendent or one single board of trustees, why didn't you cancel or postpone

00:13:21.820 with weather in that magnitude? Anthony's mother also speaking out, lamenting the online vitriol she

00:13:29.620 says her family has faced. In wake of this tragic incident, our family has been under attack.

00:13:37.800 Whatever you think what happened between Carmelo and the Metcalf boys, my three younger children,

00:13:44.360 my husband, and I didn't do anything to deserve to be threatened, harassed, and lied about.

00:13:52.740 While Mrs. Anthony and her representative complained about how they've been treated since her son's

00:13:57.300 arrest, citing, quote, the black struggle, more than half a million dollars has been raised to support

00:14:02.980 Anthony with his defense so far, and he's reportedly been staying in a supporters $900,000 gated community home.

00:14:14.360 Campaign finance records showing Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders shelling out big dough on private

00:14:21.300 air travel, crisscrossing the country on his fighting oligarchy tour, where he blasts billionaires

00:14:27.860 like Elon Musk and President Trump because he doesn't like rich people. The self-described Democratic

00:14:34.080 socialist, often flanked by New York Congresswoman and protege Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, spending $221,000

00:14:42.940 on private jet charters in just the first quarter of 2025. Fox News Digital reporting the pair

00:14:49.880 spotted on Tuesday afternoon in Bakersfield, California, boarding a luxury Bombardier Challenger

00:14:56.580 jet, an aircraft reportedly running as much as $15,000 per hour. Wonder what that does to the

00:15:02.740 environment, too. The company operating the jet touting, quote, one of the widest cabins of any

00:15:08.000 business jet available today, offering, quote, superior cabin comfort for its passengers.

00:15:14.020 The Washington Free Beacon, reporting payments to three private jet companies, account for 75%

00:15:20.540 of the campaign's total transportation costs. The central theme of the fighting oligarchy rallies,

00:15:27.220 the economy only works for the rich, not for working Americans.

00:15:31.940 We can either have extreme wealth inequality with the toxic division and corruption that it requires

00:15:40.120 to survive, or we can have a fair economy for working people. Trump has a government of the

00:15:48.360 billionaires, by the billionaires, and for the billionaires. They have one central economic mission,

00:15:54.960 to make billionaires richer at the expense of all of us. We're not going to let the billionaire class

00:16:03.040 have all of the power. Senator Sanders' fiery rants about wealth inequality propelling him from

00:16:09.460 socialist outlier to a national figurehead during the 2016 election. In the years since,

00:16:14.720 his personal fortune soaring, officially reaching millionaire status. He has three homes,

00:16:21.540 thanks in large part to what he says were his best-selling book deals about the very

00:16:26.920 income inequality he decries. As the senator's campaign coffers swelled, so did his appetite for

00:16:33.540 private travel, spending nearly $2 million on private jet travel in the 2020 election cycle.

00:16:41.240 AOC previously slamming private jets as symbols of corporate greed. She also doesn't want you to drive 1.00

00:16:47.560 an SUV. Save the environment. This from a July 2023 rally supporting the writer's strike.

00:16:54.900 How many private jets does David Zaslav need? How many private jets do these CEOs need? It is

00:17:02.520 insatiable. It is unacceptable. I do not know how any person can say, I need another $100 million

00:17:11.400 before another person can have health care. The fighting oligarchy rallies drawing tens of

00:17:16.360 thousands at stops across the country, garnering glowing media coverage. Though not all Democrats

00:17:21.760 are impressed. Strategist James Carville telling NewsNation, the rallies are not helpful to the

00:17:27.920 Democrat party. Let me make a point about Bernie and AOC. Bernie went for president twice. He's lost

00:17:33.460 twice. AOC in her kind and this guy David Hall, they want to run against other Democrats. When Bernie ran 1.00

00:17:40.740 twice as a Democrat, he lost and he lost by a lot. So maybe the Democratic Party is trying to tell

00:17:47.920 you something. You lose twice, there's probably a message in there.

00:17:54.060 And that'll do it for your AM Update. I'm Megan Kelly. Join me back here for The Megan Kelly Show,
