00:03:03.720 following the prosecution resting its case in a rare Saturday court session.

00:03:08.060 The defense beginning the day calling a teenage witness to the stand.

00:03:11.560 This witness, a member of the Centennial High track and football teams,

00:03:15.580 along with the defendant, Anthony. The witness testifying that Anthony's team

00:03:20.240 did not have its own tent at the rainy meet and had been moving around the stadium as the weather

00:03:25.000 shifted. The witness going on to say he later saw Anthony sitting in the bleachers under the

00:03:29.940 Memorial High School tent, which appeared crowded. At first, the witness testifying nothing seemed

00:03:35.380 out of the ordinary. Then he heard yelling. The witness saying people under the tent stopped

00:03:40.500 watching the meet and turned toward the commotion. As he walked closer, the witness testifying,

00:03:45.580 he saw arms reach out and make contact with Anthony. Moments later, he said the crowd got

00:03:51.280 louder. People started standing up and he saw Austin Metcalf lift his shirt and say he had

00:03:57.380 been stabbed. The witness saying Anthony was crying and, quote, there was a coach kind of

00:04:03.000 comforting him. The defense asking, quote, you could hear him crying? The witness replying,

00:04:08.380 quote, yes, sir, I heard him saying I told him not to touch me. The defense following up, quote,

00:04:13.520 how was he, distraught? The witness replying, quote, yes, very distraught. But on cross,

00:04:19.660 prosecutors working to turn the defense's witness into a liability. The state focusing on the

00:04:25.120 timeline and whether the witness had mixed up what happened before the stabbing with what happened

00:04:30.300 after. The prosecutor asking, quote, you had a few things wrong when we talked. Isn't that right?

00:04:36.540 The witness answering, quote, yes, sir. Prosecutors then pressing him on his earlier statement to

00:04:41.660 police, when he described seeing Anthony surrounded. The witness acknowledging that

00:04:46.720 what he described to police as Anthony being surrounded must have happened after Metcalf

00:04:51.640 had already been stabbed. The prosecutor asking whether the witness had, quote, a story in your

00:04:56.940 head before watching video of the confrontation. The witness again answering, quote, yes. And when

00:05:03.800 the prosecutor asked whether watching the video opened his eyes to what actually happened, the

00:05:09.280 witness replying again, quote, yes. Prosecutors then playing surveillance video from the stadium

00:05:15.040 showing the witness was not looking at the Memorial High School tent at the time of the

00:05:20.360 stabbing. Following another witness's testimony, an unusual pause in the proceedings, the judge

00:05:26.440 and attorneys holding a private sidebar before breaking for lunch. That lunch break then

00:05:31.300 stretching for about three hours with no immediate explanation. When court finally resumed, the

00:05:37.280 defense announcing it was resting its case, meaning Anthony would not take the stand,

00:05:42.700 a surprise development in a case in which the defense is self-defense. The judge then dismissing

00:05:49.240 jurors for the day, closing arguments set to begin later today. At that point, the jury will be

00:05:54.540 sequestered through deliberations. Anthony charged with murder, facing 5 to 99 years if convicted of

00:06:02.060 the first-degree felony. We spoke to MK True Crime show host Phil Holloway about how he thinks

00:06:08.060 things went for the defense. In general, I would say that the defense in the Carmelo-Anthony trial

00:06:13.920 isn't really getting the job done for their client. We had lots of witnesses who, even defense

00:06:20.680 witnesses, who testified that, quote, I think Carmelo was in the wrong. They even went so far

00:06:25.500 to say that Carmelo Anthony provoked the confrontation. And of course, under the law

00:06:32.700 of Texas, as is the case in basically every state, if you are the person that provokes

00:06:38.380 the confrontation, you cannot legally avail yourself of the defense of self-defense. So

00:06:45.920 on balance, I don't think it went well for the defense. I think the prosecutor has basically

00:06:52.700 everything to gain at this point. And I think that unless we have a stealth juror, that is someone

00:06:58.640 who sort of unlawfully injects themselves onto the jury by not being honest during jury selection,

00:07:06.040 I think this is probably a win for the prosecution. Holloway suggesting the defense performed so

00:07:11.440 poorly, it raised questions about their trial preparation. On my show, the MK True Crime Show

00:07:17.300 today, we'll be talking about this issue of whether or not the defense lawyers were actually

00:07:23.940 prepared enough, because there's been some reporting that they were, you know, texting

00:07:29.020 with the families of some of these witnesses within the last several days, and things of

00:07:34.320 that nature. We, of course, don't know what the lawyers did to prepare for trial, but it just

00:07:39.640 seems that in so many instances, they were caught off guard and surprised by what witnesses said,

00:07:46.100 or witnesses have said things that were completely contrary to the theory that they're trying

00:07:51.520 to convince the jury of, that it just raises the question of, was this money spent on an

00:07:58.860 adequate defense or was it wasted in some other way?

00:08:02.080 Holloway also flagging broader concerns regarding Anthony's defense strategy, with his team

00:08:06.560 arguing self-defense, while at times floating alternate theories that could carry real risk

00:08:12.160 with the jury.

00:08:12.820 It's not unheard of for a defense team to use alternate theories of defense. In this case, we've seen them using self-defense, but we also saw them basically implying that the victim may have impaled himself.

00:08:29.320 Now, that's a very risky strategy because a jury can be offended by it.

00:08:36.460 In this case, there's been no evidence, there's been no suggestion by any witness that anybody was responsible for the stabbing other than Carmelo Anthony.

00:08:46.860 So you've got to be very careful as a matter of trial strategy not to offend the jury when you say things.

00:08:53.160 It's got to be backed up by some evidence, and I think on this case and in this instance, I think they risked and in fact did offend the jury, and that's never a good look for a defense counsel.

00:09:04.560 As for the biggest strategic choice of the day, the defense resting without Anthony taking the stand?

00:09:09.820 Of course, a defendant has every right to remain silent, but it's, as a practical matter, almost unheard of to claim self-defense without having the defendant take the stand and tell the jury that in his mind, he felt that he had no choice but to use not just force but lethal force to propel a lethal threat.

00:09:35.440 he needs to defend against a lethal threat, or he can't legally claim self-defense. So

00:09:40.960 if the defendant doesn't take the stand to tell the jury that, and the witnesses haven't done it,

00:09:47.820 it's a real head-scratcher as to how the defense is going to get a jury instruction on the issue

00:09:53.920 of self-defense. An uneasy pause for now between Israel and Iran after another round of missile

00:10:01.920 fire from both sides over the weekend. The latest flare-up beginning after an alleged attack by the

00:10:07.880 Iranian-backed Hezbollah in northern Israel, and then Israel's response, striking what it described

00:10:14.160 as a Hezbollah site on the southern outskirts of Beirut. Iran then firing ballistic missiles

00:10:19.740 toward Israel, saying Israel had violated the conditions of the broader ceasefire by continuing

00:10:25.020 strikes in Lebanon. President Trump publicly urging Iran to stop there, warning the regime

00:10:30.700 in a Fox News interview, quote,

00:10:32.520 you've shot your missiles, that's enough.

00:10:34.660 Get back to the table and make a deal.

00:10:37.020 President Trump also moving to restrain Israel,

00:10:39.840 reportedly calling Prime Minister Netanyahu,

00:10:42.100 urging him not to answer with another round of strikes.

00:10:45.700 President Trump saying a deal might be reached

00:10:47.860 in a few days if they could de-escalate the conflict.

00:10:51.840 But Israel did not accede to President Trump's demands.

00:10:55.140 Early Monday, Israel launching strikes inside Iran,

00:10:58.560 targeting military sites and a petrochemical facility.

00:11:25.720 subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way. The blockade will remain in place

00:11:31.100 and in full force and effect until a final deal is reached. Things should move quickly.

00:11:37.020 Later in the day, Iranian Central Military Command HQ releasing a statement indicating

00:11:41.840 Iranian armed forces will suspend operations, the warning of, quote, harsher and crushing measures

00:11:47.440 if Israeli operations continue, including in southern Lebanon. Prime Minister Netanyahu

00:11:53.220 rounding out the day, releasing a lengthy statement on X announcing Israel will hold

00:11:57.300 its fire, too. For now. Fox News voicing over part of that statement here.

00:14:22.340 The Philippines rocked by a major earthquake yesterday, killing at least 35 people,

00:14:32.040 injuring more than 200, and leaving widespread damage across the country's south. The 7.8

00:14:38.100 magnitude quake striking just after 7.30 Monday morning local time in the Celebes Sea off Mindanao,

00:14:45.180 the second most populous island in the Philippines. The Philippine Institute of

00:14:49.860 volcanology and seismology, reporting the quake occurred about 20 miles beneath the seafloor,

00:14:55.500 generating a small tsunami. The largest wave, measuring about three feet,

00:14:59.880 with tsunami warnings later lifted, but on land, the damage severe. The shaking,

00:15:05.540 sending residents running into the streets, damaging buildings and roads, and triggering

00:15:10.520 landslides in parts of the region. The Scientific American, reporting at least one million people

00:15:15.360 experienced severe shaking from the quake. Of the victims, 12 villagers killed in a landslide

00:15:21.200 triggered by the force of the quake. The AP reporting most of the other deaths resulting

00:15:26.540 from collapsing buildings and falling debris. At least a dozen people have been reported missing,

00:15:32.220 per the BBC. The quake ranking amongst the strongest recorded anywhere in the world so

00:15:38.080 far this year, per the U.S. Geological Survey records. ABC News in this 2023 package,

00:15:44.360 breaking down just how much force a 7.8 magnitude earthquake can unleash.

00:15:50.340 That number, by the way, 7.8, is a measure taken from something called the Moment Magnitude Scale.

00:15:57.040 That's a scale most seismologists use to quantify just how much energy was released and how big an earthquake was.

00:16:04.440 The difference between each magnitude isn't exactly a straight line, though.

00:16:08.640 It's a logarithmic scale, which means each step up the scale is 10 times more shaking

00:16:14.260 and 32 times more energy released.

00:16:17.820 So a 7.0 magnitude earthquake is roughly 1,000 times stronger than a 5.0.

00:16:24.860 And a 7.8 is 15 times stronger than that.

00:16:29.460 It's the equivalent of around 15 billion kilos of TNT exploding at once.

00:17:21.980 A new study adding to the growing evidence that GLP-1 drugs may help with issues far beyond

00:17:28.220 diabetes and weight loss, with researchers finding a possible link between the medications

00:17:33.420 and lower breast cancer rates. The study out of the University of Pennsylvania's

00:17:38.540 Perlman School of Medicine, analyzing health records from more than 110,000 women,

00:17:44.180 finding those who took GLP-1 medications were about 30% less likely to develop breast cancer

00:17:49.720 than women who did not. The findings presented last week at the 2026 American Society of

00:17:56.140 Clinical Oncology's annual meeting, a major global gathering for cancer doctors and researchers.

00:18:02.380 Researchers led by Dr. Elizabeth McDonald examining Penn Medicine records from women

00:18:07.460 aged 45 to 80 who had breast imaging done between January of 2022 and June of 2025.

00:18:15.240 All of the women had a BMI, or body mass index, of 25 or higher, meaning they meet the medical

00:18:21.720 threshold for being overweight. Just over 15,000 of the women had GLP-1 prescriptions,

00:18:27.160 and about 96,000 did not. Researchers then testing the association in two ways. First,

00:18:33.880 across the entire patient group, then again in a smaller comparison, pairing each GLP-1 user with a

00:18:40.140 similar woman based on age, race, ethnicity, BMI, breast density, and diabetes status

00:18:46.140 in an effort to limit bias. The pattern holding in both groups. ABC News chief medical correspondent

00:18:53.380 Dr. Tara Narula, explaining the science behind the possible connection.

00:18:57.840 First of all, we know that overweight or obesity is associated with breast cancer risk,

00:19:02.260 particularly in postmenopausal women. So before menopause, the ovaries produce most of your

00:19:07.240 estrogen. Fat cells produce a little bit. But after menopause, your fat cells produce the

00:19:11.800 estrogen for the majority of women who are, again, postmenopausal. And that circulating

00:19:15.500 higher level of estrogen could fuel breast cancer. That's number one. Number two,

00:19:19.920 overweight or obesity is a pro-inflammatory state. We know that inflammation is associated

00:19:24.920 with risk of cancers and obesity is associated with elevated insulin. Insulin has also been

00:19:30.380 shown to drive certain cancers, particularly breast cancer. So when you think about what

00:19:34.560 the GLPs do, reduce weight, reduce inflammation and help with insulin sensitivity, it makes sense

00:19:40.300 that that could potentially have an effect on the risk of breast cancer.

00:19:44.480 The breast cancer study is the latest in a series of observational studies linking

00:19:48.520 GLP-1 use to lower cancer risks or better outcomes in some cancer patients. But the

00:19:53.980 biggest question now, whether this is just an interesting pattern in the data or something

00:19:58.380 GLP-1 drugs are actually helping cause. So far, much of the evidence has come from studies looking

00:20:04.100 backward at existing health records. Now, Dr. McDonald's saying in an interview posted by

00:20:09.740 eCancer that her team is moving into the next phase, designing a clinical trial to

00:20:15.920 test the hypothesis directly. We've spent the last year along with the Eastern Cooperative

00:20:21.220 Oncology Group, the American College of Radiology, and the TMIST Clinical Trial Group, that's the

00:20:27.060 mammographic screening trial that's currently ongoing, to design and develop a clinical trial

00:20:32.760 to test whether these drugs are causal in reducing the incidence of breast cancer. So even though

00:20:40.180 GLP-1 agonists have been shown to impact multiple different cancer types, lung, colon, breast,

00:20:48.560 liver, and even leukemia. The ideal format for the clinical trial is to look at breast cancer

00:20:54.460 incidents because breast is such a common cancer impacting one in eight women. So you can have
