00:00:19.300 pulling back from the brink and agreeing to a conditional ceasefire with Iran.

00:00:43.620 We're asking them to partner with us at the airport, but once they walk out of the airport, they're not going to enforce immigration policy.

00:00:57.340 potentially stripping customs operations from airports in cities that refuse to work with federal immigration authorities.
00:01:04.140 And Kanye West's comeback effort hits a roadblock as the UK bans him from entering the country.
00:01:10.700 All that and more coming up in just a moment on your AM Update.

00:02:25.440 With just 88 minutes to spare before President Trump's 8 p.m. deadline for Iran to make a deal
00:02:31.480 or face massive destruction, Mr. Trump announcing a temporary two-week ceasefire. Yesterday,
00:02:37.620 beginning with a stark warning from the president, declaring on Truth Social,
00:02:41.360 quote, a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.
00:02:46.340 Following that threat, Iran reportedly breaking off direct communications with U.S. negotiators
00:02:50.940 while continuing talks through intermediaries, according to the Wall Street Journal.
00:02:55.280 Then, a public intervention from Pakistan. Prime Minister Shabazz Sharif posting a proposed
00:03:01.560 compromise on X, urging the U.S. to extend the deadline by two weeks, and calling on Iran
00:03:07.220 to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as a goodwill gesture during that same period.
00:03:12.280 Hours later, President Trump responding on True Social, agreeing to a conditional pause,
00:03:17.580 contingent on Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
00:03:21.340 Mr. Trump writing, quote,
00:03:22.940 I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.
00:03:28.040 This will be a double-sided ceasefire.
00:03:30.480 The president writing that the U.S. has already met and exceeded its military objectives
00:03:35.700 and is now, quote, very far along on what he describes as a definitive agreement toward
00:03:41.080 long-term peace in the Middle East. Mr. Trump adding the U.S. has received a 10-point proposal
00:03:46.960 from Iran, now serving as the basis for continued negotiations. The Israelis also reluctantly
00:03:53.160 agreeing to the ceasefire, according to CNN. The New York Times reporting Iran accepted the terms
00:03:58.640 of the deal after last-minute prodding from China to show flexibility and diffuse tensions, quote,
00:04:04.360 amid growing concerns about the economic devastation from damages to critical infrastructure.
00:04:10.740 The ceasefire reportedly approved by new Supreme Leader Mashtaba Khomeini,
00:04:15.200 Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, releasing a statement, quote,
00:04:19.440 For a period of two weeks, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible
00:04:23.980 via coordinating with Iran's armed forces.
00:04:27.440 The Wall Street Journal publishing the 10 points in Iran's proposal,
00:04:31.260 outlining sweeping demands.
00:04:32.860 The plan calling for the U.S. to commit to guaranteeing non-aggression and the withdrawal
00:04:38.340 of U.S. forces from the region. Iran insisting on maintaining control of the Strait of Hormuz
00:04:43.740 and acceptance of a nuclear program involving uranium enrichment. The proposal calling for
00:04:49.900 the removal of all sanctions, both direct and secondary, targeting foreign entities doing
00:04:55.620 business with Iran. Dropsite news reporter Ryan Grimm pointing out the 10-point plan has been in
00:05:00.860 circulation for weeks. The New York Times reporting the U.S. and Israel received a copy on Monday,
00:05:07.140 President Trump saying, quote, it's a significant step. It's not good enough, but it's a very
00:05:11.800 significant step. It is unclear if there are significant changes to the 10-point plan between
00:05:17.440 then and last night. Oil prices dropping drastically on the news. Brent oil, the international benchmark,
00:05:23.980 dropping from about $110 per barrel, where it hovered most of the day, to about $91.
00:05:30.860 Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announcing a new nationwide initiative targeting fraud
00:05:37.140 in his first press conference since taking over the Justice Department from former AG
00:05:42.200 Pam Bondi last week. The Trump administration making fraud enforcement a top priority,
00:05:48.080 swearing in Colin McDonald last week as the first ever Assistant Attorney General for
00:05:52.260 National Fraud Enforcement. Here, AG Blanche outlining the mission.
00:05:56.560 I'm proud to announce in greater detail the creation of the National Fraud Enforcement
00:06:01.640 Division. Its core mission will be to zealously investigate and prosecute those who steal
00:06:07.140 taxpayer dollars and rip off the American people. Our vision is to build a robust fraud-fighting
00:06:13.620 squad capable of investigating and prosecuting the full spectrum of fraud against taxpayer dollars.
00:06:19.960 Every U.S. attorney's office across the country will also be joining this re-energized
00:06:25.500 fight against fraud. This means in pure numbers that there will be an additional 93 prosecutors
00:06:33.160 in every district across the country devoted to the mission of combating fraud
00:06:37.600 with the National Fraud Enforcement Division. The new division will bring together data and
00:06:43.740 investigators from across the entire government so that you can track down even the most
00:06:48.780 sophisticated fraudsters and hold them accountable. The rollout quickly giving way to pointed
00:06:54.620 questions from the press about Blanche himself and the direction of the Justice Department.
00:06:59.800 Blanche, before joining the administration, served as President Trump's personal attorney,
00:07:04.220 defending him in the Mar-a-Lago documents case, the election interference case,
00:07:08.000 and the New York business records case. Reporters pressing him on how that background
00:07:12.760 could shape his leadership at the Justice Department and whether the Trump administration
00:07:17.120 is weaponizing the department. One reporter referencing a recent comment by A.G. Blanche
00:07:22.740 at a political conference where he told the audience that not a single prosecutor who
00:07:27.220 participated in the Trump prosecutions remains in office today. The reporter asking if that's a sign
00:07:33.040 the DOJ is firing people for political reasons. Mr. Blanche's response. It's much more simple
00:07:39.060 than that. I mean, look, if you if you were a prosecutor and you were trying to prosecute your
00:07:44.360 boss, you have ethical duties as a lawyer that I think prevent you from continuing to work in that
00:07:50.200 environment. And so in this case, what we saw and what President Trump went through,
00:07:58.360 every single prosecutor in this department, whether you're an AUSA or working here,
00:08:03.120 you have a duty to do the right thing. And so in cases where you had prosecutors that were
00:08:09.240 absolutely not doing the right thing, okay, and so none of those prosecutors, I hope everybody
00:08:14.680 agrees they shouldn't work here if you're not doing the right thing. And that's what I meant
00:08:18.400 by that. And, you know, listen, it's been talked about a lot, but what happened the last four
00:08:23.500 years is something that will never happen again. When questioned about the White House's role in
00:08:28.880 directing fraud investigations, A.G. Blanche responding forcefully. What if the White House
00:08:34.400 or somebody in the White House says, we want you to investigate this state or this program? I mean,
00:08:39.080 how do you handle that? Because historically, as you know, since Watergate, there's been a kind of
00:08:43.760 a firewall, if you will, on criminal investigations between the White House and the Justice
00:08:48.000 department. I mean, that is the most false statement I've ever heard in my life. There is
00:08:51.980 always communication between a president and his priorities and what the Department of Justice
00:08:56.780 should be focused on and not focused on. That is not a new thing in this administration,
00:09:01.320 although I know it sounds fun to say that it is. As far as whether we would take a referral
00:09:04.920 from the White House or take a referral from you even, yes. I mean, yes, if somebody knows about
00:09:11.520 fraud, please tell us. And so if the president of our United States says, I have heard that
00:09:17.620 there is ongoing fraud in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Like any president before him, I hope that the
00:09:23.320 attorney general would absolutely say, yes, we'll investigate that. Blanche rejecting ongoing claims
00:09:29.720 of, quote, weaponization of the DOJ and arguing the department is finally being refocused on its
00:09:36.400 core mission. What we're doing and what we've been doing for the past 14 months is changing
00:09:42.320 this department. We're no longer, people say the president wants to go after his political enemies.
00:09:46.980 No, the president has said time and time again that he wants justice.
00:09:51.360 And if you look at what happened to him, his family, his administration, the agents that protected him,
00:09:58.520 people that happened or just walked by him on a given day, they got subjected to massive investigations by this department.
00:10:06.060 So I understand the question and I understand the pretty constant role of the media that somehow this department is weaponizing itself.
00:10:15.400 but it happens not to be true. We have tens of thousands of prosecutors all over this country
00:10:20.400 putting bad guys in jail, okay? That's something that wasn't happening like it should have been
00:10:24.580 happening for the past four years. That's going to happen tomorrow, and it's going to happen in
00:10:28.480 the coming days. Coming up, DHS Secretary Mark Wayne Mullen raising the stakes against sanctuary
00:10:36.020 cities, suggesting airports in non-cooperative areas could lose customs operations in their
00:10:41.980 airports, and Kanye West's comeback derailed overseas, banned from entering the UK ahead of
00:10:48.340 a major music festival. Let's talk hot salt. Firecracker Farm, hot salt to be exact, the gold
00:10:58.840 standard for its flavor, quality, and heart. This is not just a great gift, which it is. It's the
00:11:04.420 secret to making everyday meals special and quite frankly, delicious. If you are worried about it
00:11:09.960 being too hot, look for Vanilla Heat. It's a wonderful mild blend created by the founder
00:11:14.680 Alex and his daughter focused on gentle flavor over brute force. Alex and his family make every
00:11:20.180 small batch on their farm packaged in their signature precision stainless steel push grinders
00:11:24.820 that feel solid in hand and are very satisfying to use. Stop settling for generic. Ready to see
00:11:30.240 what you've been missing? Go to firecracker.farm and use code MK for 10% off your hot salt.
00:11:35.140 better get to know it now before they run out again. All right, get to it. One more time,
00:11:40.960 that's firecracker.farm. Newly sworn in DHS Secretary Mark Wayne Mullen speaking with Fox
00:11:48.800 News on Monday in his first major interview since taking the job in late March, stepping into a
00:11:54.240 department still mired in what is now the longest government shutdown in American history. Funding
00:11:59.880 for DHS expiring mid-February, and with lawmakers currently on recess, negotiations remain stalled
00:12:06.340 and complicated. Secretary Mullen, who just left the Senate to take the role, says the impasse is
00:12:12.560 simply political theater. Unfortunately, what you see from a lot of Democrats right now is political
00:12:17.520 theater, because what they've done is they've defunded Department of Homeland Security. I mean,
00:12:22.040 that's like defunding the Department of War, right? Department of War takes care of us abroad.
00:12:25.780 department of homeland security we take care of everything that is in our backyard ice agents are
00:12:30.580 simply trying to enforce the policies that congress passed right i don't get to pick and choose which
00:12:36.100 policies i i enforce i i enforce all the policies that congress put on my plate if cory and some of
00:12:43.460 our democrats want to change it then then let's have immigration reform but instead they're wanting
00:12:48.260 to defund ice and they're wanting to defund our custom border patrol so essentially what they're
00:12:53.300 are saying is we don't want to deport any of our felonies or felons or the criminals that are here
00:12:58.420 that came underneath the Biden administration. And they want to open open our border completely.
00:13:03.280 And I don't know how we get past that. At the same time, the Trump administration pushing
00:13:07.980 forward on a separate front, its effort to conduct the largest mass deportation effort in history,
00:13:13.080 which Secretary Mullen says has already resulted in nearly three million removals since taking
00:13:18.300 office. A major obstacle, sanctuary jurisdictions, where local policies restrict cooperation with
00:13:24.860 federal immigration enforcement. The administration ramping up pressure on these jurisdictions,
00:13:30.340 threatening funding cuts, and increasing federal immigration enforcement efforts,
00:13:34.940 with many of those actions facing legal challenges. On Fox, Secretary Mullen suggesting
00:13:40.360 the federal government may revisit whether sanctuary cities should process international
00:13:45.600 arrivals. Some of these cities have international airports. If they're a sanctuary city,
00:13:52.140 should they really be processing customs into their city? Seriously, if they're a sanctuary
00:13:59.580 city and they're receiving international flights and we're asking them to partner with us at the
00:14:06.140 airport, but once they walk out of the airport, they're not going to enforce immigration policy,
00:14:11.220 maybe we need to have a really hard look at that because we need to focus on cities that
00:14:14.720 want to work with us. So you're saying that big cities that are sanctuary cities that have a big
00:14:19.420 airport, they might lose their customs? Well, I'm saying we're going to have to start prioritizing
00:14:23.840 things at some point. Such a move could potentially block those airports from receiving international
00:14:28.760 flights altogether. In August, then Attorney General Pam Bondi officially identifying dozens
00:14:34.320 of jurisdictions accused of obstructing federal immigration enforcement, including cities home to
00:14:39.860 some of the busiest international airports in the country. LAX in Los Angeles, SFO in San Francisco,
00:14:46.480 Chicago O'Hare, Newark, New York's JFK, among others. An attempt to remove customs from any
00:14:53.180 of these ports of entry would certainly result in legal challenges. The next step in Kanye
00:15:00.260 Ye West's attempted comeback, hitting a major setback overseas after the UK blocks the rapper's
00:15:06.780 entry into the country, where he was set to headline a major music festival.
00:15:11.140 Gay working to re-enter the public sphere in recent months, releasing a new album in
00:15:15.880 late March, and selling out two shows at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles last week, earning
00:15:21.080 about $33 million, according to Bloomberg.
00:15:24.600 The renewed push coming after years of controversy that derailed much of his career, including
00:15:29.540 a series of anti-Semitic remarks beginning in 2022, which led major partners like Adidas,
00:15:35.640 Balenciaga, Gap, and talent agency CAA to cut ties. In January, West taking out a full-page ad
00:15:43.540 in the Wall Street Journal apologizing for his past statements and attributing his behavior in
00:15:49.040 part to bipolar disorder, writing that during manic episodes, quote, you feel like you're
00:15:53.960 seeing the world more clearly when in reality you're losing your grip entirely. Despite the
00:15:59.200 repeated controversy, his latest album, Bully, performing strongly, debuting at number two on
00:16:05.360 the Billboard 200, marking his 14th top 10 album, according to Variety. Ye aiming to build on that
00:16:12.020 momentum this summer, with plans to headline London's Wireless Festival in July, one of the
00:16:17.280 largest hip-hop festivals in Europe, drawing about 50,000 people per day. That announcement
00:16:23.080 sending corporate sponsors fleeing major brands, including PepsiCo and Anheuser-Busch InBev,
00:16:29.200 withdrawing their support. Then yesterday, the UK government denying West's travel authorization,
00:16:35.540 determining his presence would not be, quote, conducive to the public good, according to the
00:16:40.420 Wall Street Journal. In response, event organizers canceling the wireless festival entirely,
00:16:46.300 issuing refunds to ticket holders. Yay has yet to publicly respond following the cancellation.
00:16:54.480 That'll do it for your AM update. I'm Emily Jashinski, host of After Party.
