00:00:00.000 Good morning, everyone. I'm Megyn Kelly. It's May. Friday, May 1st, to be exact. And this
00:00:08.060 is your AM update. Trump withdraws his Surgeon General nominee, Dr. Casey Means, out after
00:00:14.900 facing resistance from one particular GOP senator. We're going to make this happen. And we're
00:00:20.500 going to show the rest of the country that this is the politics of the future. Governor
00:00:24.480 Janet Mills dropping out of the main Democrat Senate primary, clearing the field for a surging
00:00:29.820 progressive challenger to take on GOP Senator Susan Collins in the general election.
00:00:41.300 Three members of the same family now facing federal charges accused of assaulting a Turning
00:00:46.800 Point USA reporter covering an anti-ice protest. And new research suggests eating more meat could
00:00:54.180 lower your risk of developing Alzheimer's if you carry a specific gene. All that and more
00:01:00.320 coming up in just a moment on your AM update. Paying 70, 80, 90 bucks a month to big wireless

00:01:36.060 not make the move, check again, okay? If you are wondering, is Pure Talk's network really as good

00:02:09.340 company, Pure Talk. Try it out. President Trump yesterday pulling his nomination of Dr. Casey 1.00
00:02:17.380 Means as Surgeon General. Means' nomination stalling on the Hill amid opposition from some,
00:02:23.880 including one senator in particular, skeptical of her views on vaccines, which align closely with
00:02:30.240 those of HHS Secretary RFKJ. Here, an exchange from Casey Means' February confirmation hearing
00:02:37.220 with that senator bill cassidy of louisiana a republican and medical doctor do you believe
00:02:43.880 that vaccines whether individually or collectively contribute to autism the reality is that we have
00:02:50.720 an autism crisis that's increasing and this is devastating to many families and we do not know
00:02:58.420 as a medical community what causes autism the administration has just committed a huge amount
00:03:04.640 of funding to look at the exposome of all environmental factors that could be contributing
00:03:08.780 to autism. And until we have a clear understanding of why kids are developing this at higher rates,
00:03:14.600 I think we should not leave any stones unturned. There's been a lot of evidence showing that
00:03:19.920 they're not implicated. Do you not accept that evidence? I do accept that evidence. I also think
00:03:24.840 that science is never settled. President Trump posting to Truth Social, quote, for months,
00:03:30.100 Senator Bill Cassidy of the great state of Louisiana has stood in the way of RFKJ's nominee,
00:03:37.280 Casey Means, for the important position of U.S. Surgeon General. In a subsequent post,
00:03:42.880 President Trump adding, quote, hopefully all of the great Republican people of Louisiana,
00:03:47.700 which I won big three times, will be voting Bill Cassidy out of office in the upcoming
00:03:54.300 Republican primary. Senator Cassidy is speaking yesterday to reporters about the president's
00:04:00.140 comments. What do you say to the president? Are you disloyal to the president of the United States?
00:04:03.660 I'm going to the United States of America and I'm going to do my darndest and work with the
00:04:07.400 president. We never work for the best of the United States of America. Is he going to knock
00:04:11.640 you out of your Senate seat? I don't think so. I mean, you're not concerned about the
00:04:17.420 president's opposition to you? The people of Louisiana are going to vote for someone who's
00:04:21.020 delivered for Louisiana, and I can look at the things that I've delivered for the state of
00:04:24.780 Louisiana, and it is far more than any of my opponents. In addition to Senator Cassidy
00:04:31.420 withholding support, Means' nomination reportedly remaining stalled in committee after Republican
00:04:36.980 Senators Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska declined to back her,
00:04:42.520 according to the New York Times. In an interview with the Times, Means saying she will continue to
00:04:47.580 advocate for the Maha movement, adding, quote, I genuinely believe in my heart that the Trump
00:04:52.360 administration is trying to figure out how to move the balls forward. Yes, there are some setbacks,
00:04:58.180 but there are some huge wins, and the way that culture has moved forward in the past year
00:05:03.340 is monumental. Cali Means, brother to Casey, is a top advisor to Secretary Kennedy,
00:05:10.020 posting to X today, quote, Senator Cassidy worked to smear Casey as anti-vaccine for not saying
00:05:16.700 every American should submit their children to mandatory injections without parental or medical
00:05:21.760 input, which is his view. Secretary Kennedy writing, quote, President Trump's Surgeon General
00:05:27.360 nominee Casey Means stands as one of the Maha movement's most powerful evangelists. By
00:05:33.480 sabotaging this appointment, Bill Cassidy once again did the dirty work for entrenched interests
00:05:39.500 seeking to stall the Maha movement and protect the very status quo that has made America
00:05:44.380 the sickest nation on earth. Yesterday afternoon, President Trump announcing the nomination of
00:05:50.380 Dr. Nicole Sapphire for the Surgeon General position. She's a current Fox News contributor.
00:05:56.440 Mr. Trump writing, quote, Nicole is a star physician who has spent her year guiding women
00:06:00.820 facing breast cancer through their diagnosis and treatment while tirelessly advocating to
00:06:05.740 increase early cancer detection and prevention. She is also an incredible communicator who makes
00:06:11.400 complicated health issues more easily understood by all Americans. Dr. Sapphire in the past making 0.98
00:06:17.320 similar statements to those made by Casey Means advocating for parental discretion regarding
00:06:22.900 certain vaccines. A date for her confirmation hearing is not yet set. Maine Governor Janet
00:06:30.380 Mills dropping out of the Democrat U.S. Senate primary yesterday, clearing the way for controversial 0.73
00:06:36.080 progressive left candidate Graham Plattner to take on Republican Senator Susan Collins in the
00:06:41.320 November general election. Governor Mills assumed to be the shoe-in pick to challenge
00:06:46.040 Senator Collins, who has held the seat since 1997, as Maine shapes up to be a crucial election for
00:06:52.420 Democrats hoping to take back the Senate. Despite her establishment endorsements, including Senate
00:06:58.460 Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and Kentucky Governor Andy 0.97
00:07:02.900 Beshear, Mills consistently trailing Plattner in the polls, often by double digits. Democrat
00:07:09.640 primary voters increasingly rallying behind Plattner's message, centering on economic
00:07:14.600 populism, anti-establishment reform, and pushing back against corporate influence in politics.
00:07:21.020 Governor Mills releasing a statement, quote,
00:07:23.300 While I have the drive and passion, commitment and experience, and above all else, the fight
00:07:28.740 to continue on, I very simply do not have the one thing that political campaigns unfortunately
00:07:33.760 require today, the financial resources. The governor opting not to endorse Plattner,
00:07:39.640 now running in the primary against two other candidates,
00:07:42.860 each averaging a meager two points, according to the RealClear polling average.
00:07:47.900 Plattner receiving endorsements from several high-profile progressives,
00:07:51.580 including Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts.
00:07:57.340 Plattner's campaign raking in the dough,
00:07:59.300 reporting $4.1 million raised in the first quarter of 2026,
00:08:02.560 in addition to $4.6 million raised in the previous quarter.
00:08:06.600 Governor Mills' campaign reporting about half that.
00:08:09.640 $2.6 million raised in the first quarter and $2.7 million in the last one, according to Politico.
00:08:15.840 Senator Collins on the Republican side raising about $3 million in the first quarter,
00:08:19.920 with $10 million already in the bank.
00:08:22.560 Plattner posting a video to social media yesterday following the governor's announcement.
00:08:26.860 The win we get today, it comes because of you.
00:08:30.780 It comes because of the work that you've done, that you've put into this.
00:08:35.460 It comes from the fact that you guys believe in this kind of politics.
00:08:39.640 and that we're going to pull this thing off and we're going to make this happen
00:08:46.140 and we're going to show the rest of the country that this is the politics of the future
00:08:50.320 and that working people can organize and they can win.
00:08:55.420 Plattner maintaining strong support in the polls despite several early controversies hitting his
00:08:59.740 campaign. In October, Plattner turning to the Pod Save America podcast to publicly admit to
00:09:05.580 having a Nazi-linked tattoo on his chest. The ink, a version of a skull and bones resembling a
00:09:12.160 Totenkopf, or death head, associated with a Nazi paramilitary organization.
00:09:18.060 Plattner saying he was not aware of the connection when he and some fellow Marines
00:09:21.700 got the tattoos while on military leave in Croatia. A former campaign manager disputing
00:09:27.120 that account, calling Plattner a history buff and saying he was well aware of the Nazi links.
00:09:33.160 Plattner also coming under fire for his prolific Reddit comments,
00:09:36.840 in which he posted a number of controversial statements.
00:09:40.080 The Senate Republican's ex-account posting a video
00:09:42.760 featuring an AI version of Plattner reading some of the comments in question. 1.00
00:09:48.400 Why don't black people tip?
00:09:50.280 I work as a bartender and it always amazes me how solid this stereotype is. 0.97
00:09:54.660 I got older and became a communist.
00:09:57.500 Still got the guns, though.
00:09:59.220 I don't trust the fascists to act politely.
00:10:01.220 I did used to love America, or at least the idea of it.
00:10:05.700 These days, I'm pretty disgusted by it all.
00:10:08.360 Plattner telling Politico he was, quote,
00:10:10.380 F-ing around on the internet at a time when I felt lost and very disillusioned with our government,
00:10:15.100 who sent me overseas to watch my friends die. 0.95
00:10:18.000 I made dumb jokes and picked fights. 0.96
00:10:20.120 But of course I'm not a socialist. 0.99
00:10:21.740 I'm a small business owner, a Marine Corps veteran, and a retired shitposter. 0.84
00:10:26.720 Plattner has promised, if elected, to, quote, 0.90
00:10:29.320 drag every single person in the White House by subpoena in front of Senate committees over and
00:10:35.400 over again. He has said he's open to adding seats to the U.S. Supreme Court and wants to impeach
00:10:42.000 President Donald Trump, Justice Thomas, and Justice Alito. Great. Senator Collins speaking
00:10:48.880 yesterday about the shakeup to CNN. I'm sure this was a very difficult decision for Governor Mills,
00:10:56.960 and I wish her well.
00:11:01.080 She has devoted her life to public service in the state of Maine.
00:11:07.960 Will Plattner be easier to beat in your view?
00:11:11.480 I'm not going to get into the November election at this point.
00:11:18.460 Senator Collins trailing behind Plattner by 7.6 points,
00:11:22.320 according to the RCP average.
00:11:24.280 The general election set for November 3rd.
00:11:26.960 coming up a turning point usa reporter attacked at an anti-ice protest now three members of the
00:11:34.980 same family are facing federal charges and a new study linking greater meat consumption
00:11:40.560 to lower dementia risk but only for those with a genetic predisposition

00:12:15.760 American consumer. Credit cards can keep your payments secure. They can provide rewards that
00:12:21.540 families help use to make everyday purchases much more affordable. And the Electronic Payments
00:12:27.860 Coalition says that this Durbin Marshall thing, that it mandates letting corporate megastores
00:12:34.260 cut corners on credit card processing and routing transactions over cheaper, untested networks with

00:12:45.400 And consider telling Congress to guard your card.
00:13:15.400 only with assault. The incident occurring April 11th at an anti-ice protest held on federal
00:13:21.320 property outside of the Whipple Federal Building in Minneapolis, the facility serving as an ice
00:13:27.160 field office and detention center. Hernandez telling Fox News tensions rose with the protesters
00:13:33.240 when they discovered her association with TPUSA. Videos filmed from multiple angles showing a group
00:13:40.160 of people surrounding Hernandez shouting and blowing whistles and horns directly in her face
00:13:44.980 as Hernandez attempts to walk away from the crowd.
00:13:48.360 This moment recorded by Hernandez,

00:13:53.560 another video showing page the daughter appearing to throw several punches 0.79

00:14:26.860 Hernandez stands back up, appearing to lay a hand on the reporter. Then as Hernandez shouts, 1.00
00:14:32.700 quote, stop touching me, Christopher steps in from behind, shoving Hernandez to the ground with two 0.97
00:14:38.580 hands into her back. Savannah reporting she sustained a concussion, two sprains, and bruises
00:14:44.060 from the confrontation. Days after, Christopher and Dayana speaking out on the Pushing the Limits
00:14:50.020 podcast claiming they are not violent people you are guys are making the claim that savannah made
00:14:56.240 physical contact first with your daughter that's when your wife got involved and then there was a
00:15:01.400 little bit of a for lack of a better term mini scuffle there and then at that moment when you
00:15:06.880 pushed her in the back you did that out of fear because you were protecting your family and you
00:15:12.020 are saying that your daughter and your wife were assaulted is that a fair characterization of your
00:15:16.660 story of what took place. I believe that's a fair characterization. I mean, you said it.
00:15:22.420 That's what I believe. And I just wanted her to leave. That's all I wanted. I just wanted her
00:15:27.960 to leave so that this whole thing would stop. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche posting to
00:15:32.940 X, quote, Hernandez was allegedly surrounded, physically assaulted and shoved to the ground 0.95
00:15:37.860 simply because she was identified by the defendants as a conservative journalist.
00:15:42.180 That is not peaceful protest. These deplorable actions as charged in the indictment will not be
00:15:48.180 tolerated in America, and this Department of Justice will always punish unhinged acts of
00:15:53.360 political violence. Hernandez reacting to the charges Wednesday on Fox News.
00:15:58.520 I am incredibly grateful that both the FBI and DOJ have prioritized this and have brought these
00:16:04.460 charges swiftly. So, I mean, I'm grateful for that, and I really do hope that we see justice
00:16:09.900 serve. Do we see this case through? Because left-wing violence has been a huge issue in
00:16:14.460 this country for a long time. I'm not the first journalist this has happened to. I'm not. I'm
00:16:18.280 hopefully going to be the last. But, you know, this sets a very strong precedent and sends a
00:16:23.300 very strong message to the left wing that under this FBI, they're not going to be able to attack
00:16:27.600 people anymore. And that in itself, to me, means a lot. New research out of Sweden zeroing in on
00:16:35.640 the link between diet and genetic risk for Alzheimer's. The findings published last month
00:16:41.460 in the Journal of the American Medical Association finding people with a certain genetic risk factor
00:16:46.860 for Alzheimer's disease who consume more meat, particularly unprocessed meat like steak or
00:16:53.660 ground beef as opposed to bacon or deli meat, have lower risk of developing dementia. We spoke to
00:17:00.520 scientists behind the work, Dr. Sarah Garcia-Tachek and Dr. Jacob Norgrian of the Karolinska
00:17:07.180 Institute. At the center of it all, a gene everyone carries, the APOE gene, which comes in different
00:17:14.100 variants. Some significantly increase a person's likelihood for developing Alzheimer's. Dr. Norgrian
00:17:21.100 explains. We can say that everybody has the APOE gene and it comes in three different variants,
00:17:29.420 the APOE2, APOE3, and APOE4. And you get one from each of your parents, meaning that there
00:17:37.940 are six possible combinations, which we call genotypes. If you have the APOE4 gene, your
00:17:45.520 Alzheimer's risk is higher compared to the APOE3, particularly if you have a double four. So in this
00:17:54.280 study, we studied the ApoE3-4 and the ApoE4-4 compared to the other genotypes. And these
00:18:03.260 risk genotypes make up approximately a quarter of the population, but they account for the
00:18:10.700 majority of Alzheimer's cases. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow says she's got the ApoE4 gene. Actor
00:18:17.740 Chris Hemsworth has two copies of it, dramatically raising his risk of Alzheimer's. The science is
00:18:24.120 not settled on why ApoE4 carriers face a higher risk of Alzheimer's, but research has linked the
00:18:30.360 variant to higher cholesterol levels, with evidence suggesting buildup in the brain may
00:18:35.160 interfere with neuron function and contribute to the plaque formation seen in Alzheimer's disease,
00:18:41.040 according to the Wall Street Journal. ApoE4 carriers who consumed more unprocessed meat
00:18:46.800 saw lower mortality and lower cholesterol than ApoE4 carriers who ate less meat.
00:18:53.740 The study showing that eating meat every day can lower the risk ApoE4 carriers have
00:18:59.240 to that of non-carriers.
00:19:01.880 Dr. Norgrian says there may be an evolutionary explanation for this.
00:19:06.100 What we know is that ApoE4 is the oldest genotype.
00:19:11.420 ApoE3 is contemporary with modern humans.
00:19:14.980 It's about 200,000, 300,000 years old, and ApoE2 is even more recent.
00:19:22.220 But the ApoE4 gene occurred for probably a few million years ago.
00:19:28.260 And it might have been that our ancestors at that time consumed a more animal-based diet
00:19:35.520 and could possibly be adapted to a different diet than modern humans.
00:19:44.160 The researchers suggest APOE4 carriers may absorb more key nutrients from meat
00:19:49.480 than they do from plant-based foods, including nutrients like vitamin B12,
00:19:54.480 iron, and zinc that are linked to brain health.
00:19:57.560 These findings also raise bigger questions about how we think about diet more broadly.
00:20:02.700 Many public health guidelines take a one-size-fits-all approach,
00:20:06.140 but Dr. Garcia Tachek says this research underscores the role genetics play
00:20:11.000 in determining the proper diet.
00:20:13.520 I think one of the things our study shows is that brain health needs to be considered
00:20:18.960 when we're writing dietary guidelines.
00:20:23.000 We need to do more research on the cognitive effects of diet and in particularly look at
00:20:31.040 this effect of ApoE and see if we can replicate it in other cohorts.
00:20:37.060 We have to remind everyone that this is a relatively small cohort in Sweden, and we need to make sure that this transfers to other populations.
00:20:49.180 In future, if we can replicate this across cohorts or even do a clinical trial and understand the mechanisms behind this, this would open the door for more of a precision nutrition or precision recommendations that are tailored to people's genotype.
00:21:08.260 So, how does one determine if they are an APOE4 gene carrier?
00:21:12.660 There's a number of ways to get genotyped.
00:21:14.520 genotyped. It can be a blood test or other kinds of genetic tests. Some companies offer cheek
00:21:20.940 swabs. It's not particularly complicated, but it's not usually done in routine clinical practice,
00:21:27.660 at least not in Sweden. We do do it for individuals who are getting a workup for a suspicion of
00:21:35.560 dementia. To those who say they'd rather not know, this is real actionable data that may help prevent
00:21:42.560 the onset of Alzheimer's. So maybe consider it. That'll do it for your AM update. I'm Megan Kelly.
