Summary

From the Umayyad invasion of Tours in 732 through the ISIS bombing of Paris just a few years ago, the West has faced a lot of violence from the religion of peace. We are joined today by Brigitte Gabriel, author of They Must Be Stopped, Why We Must Defeat Radical Islam and How We Can Do It, to discuss her first hand account growing up in the midst of the Lebanese civil war, and the devastation that that religious ideology has wrought on her own life and those of her family and friends.

00:00:00.280 From the Umayyad invasion of Tours in 732, through the ISIS bombing of Paris just a few years ago,
00:00:07.720 the West has faced a lot of violence from the religion of peace.
00:00:11.380 We are joined today by Brigitte Gabriel, author of They Must Be Stopped,
00:00:15.720 Why We Must Defeat Radical Islam and How We Can Do It.
00:00:19.640 She will discuss her first-hand account growing up in the midst of the Lebanese Civil War
00:00:24.540 and the devastation that that religious ideology has wrought on her own life
00:00:28.600 and those of her family and friends.
00:00:30.640 Then, the mailbag. I'm Michael Knowles, and this is The Michael Knowles Show.
00:00:41.520 My guest today, Brigitte Gabriel, was born in Lebanon to a Maronite Christian family.
00:00:46.660 During the Lebanese Civil War, Islamic militants destroyed her home and injured a 10-year-old Brigitte.
00:00:52.740 She relates that she and her parents were forced to live underground in an 8-by-10-foot bomb shelter
00:00:58.500 for seven years without electricity, water, plumbing, or very much food.
00:01:03.180 She had to crawl in roadside ditches to gather water while avoiding Muslim snipers.
00:01:08.340 Eventually, an explosion caused Brigitte and her family to become trapped in the shelter for two days
00:01:13.000 before they were rescued by three Christian militia fighters, one of whom was later killed by a landmine.
00:01:18.220 Her family was ultimately saved when the Israeli army invaded Lebanon in 1978.
00:01:23.420 Brigitte runs Act for America, a group dedicated to fighting radical Islam.
00:01:27.520 For that effort, lefty groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center and the New York Times
00:01:32.760 have condemned Brigitte as hateful and Islamophobic.
00:01:37.060 She is also the author of They Must Be Stopped, Why We Must Defeat Radical Islam and How We Can Do It.
00:01:43.380 Brigitte, thank you for being here.
00:01:45.740 Oh, I'm so excited to be with you, Michael. What a great opportunity.
00:01:49.560 Islamophobia. Brigitte, I suppose in your case, that would be not just the irrational fear of having
00:01:55.680 your head chopped off, the irrational fear of reality, of being shot or bombed by the Islamic
00:02:00.480 militants who ravaged your family and childhood and murdered most of your childhood friends.
00:02:05.760 How irrational.
00:02:07.720 Are you an Islamophobe?
00:02:09.460 I am not an Islamophobe.
00:02:12.860 I do have a rational fear of terrorists who are threatening to blow us all up, who are
00:02:18.800 committing terrorist attacks across the world, whether in Europe or in the United States.
00:02:23.020 I know what's at stake.
00:02:24.460 And as a terrorism analyst, I listen to chatter.
00:02:27.940 I infiltrate Islamic and terrorist chat rooms.
00:02:30.600 I know what they're talking.
00:02:31.600 And when you understand that you are dealing with an enemy bent on attacking you, on killing
00:02:36.900 as many of you as possible, your fear is justified.
00:02:40.820 But I do not let my fear stop me from doing whatever I have to do to protect our country
00:02:46.000 and sound the alarm.
00:02:47.700 And as you alluded earlier, Michael, I mean, I was raised as a child, understanding what
00:02:53.100 it's like to be raised in the majority Muslim Middle East as a minority Christian and the price
00:02:59.080 I paid for that.
00:03:00.060 Your opinion of Islam was mainstream in the West from the Battle of Tours in 732 through
00:03:08.260 at least the publication of Hilaire Belloq's Great Heresies, as you point out, really up
00:03:13.920 until the 1970s or so.
00:03:15.580 How did the West get so Islamophobia phobic?
00:03:20.520 Well, the West only after 9-11 started to realize what we are dealing with.
00:03:25.540 And even during 9-11, a lot of people thought, oh, these are just a handful of crazies.
00:03:29.880 That does not represent what's happening around the world.
00:03:32.940 And what we have realized is that right now we are seeing radical Islam spreading worldwide.
00:03:38.080 So whether you are in America or in Europe, as you see, I'll follow the news in Europe.
00:03:43.080 Europe is gone.
00:03:44.280 When you look at what's happening in Australia, in Canada.
00:03:46.280 So when you look across every continent across the globe right now, every continent is dealing with the same problem.
00:03:52.480 And that is the rise of radical Islamic terrorism.
00:03:54.480 And it's radical Islamic terrorism.
00:03:56.480 And it's radical Islamic terrorism.
00:03:58.020 It's not Buddhist terrorism.
00:03:59.580 It's not Jewish terrorism.
00:04:01.540 It's not Hindu terrorism.
00:04:03.220 It is Islamic terrorism.
00:04:05.020 So the West right now is justified when we watch television and we hear ISIS or before ISIS, it was Al-Qaeda issuing press releases saying that they are going to come after the West, that they want to establish a caliphate, that Islam should rule the earth.
00:04:19.400 And they are following on their threats and it's about time we in the West start listening to them.
00:04:23.960 And I believe in the West, a lot of people, and obviously the polls are showing that people are starting to listen to our enemy and realize that they actually mean what they say.
00:04:33.540 Speaking of loving the West, I want to ask you more about this, the West's reaction, what's happening right now, what has just changed.
00:04:40.600 But because we love the West, we need to bring in a little capitalism here and keep the lights on in the studio.
00:04:44.880 And that's why I need to talk to everybody about a new and wonderful sponsor that we have, which is Wink.
00:04:51.040 I have been waiting for this sponsor for a very long time.
00:04:54.620 I, you know, all the sponsors are great.
00:04:56.380 They help keep the lights on.
00:04:57.660 But me, my hands get a little shaky around this time of day.
00:05:00.880 Sometimes you just need a little something to take the edge off.
00:05:03.820 And obviously Ben hasn't paid me in months and months.
00:05:06.420 So it's always good to get a few free bottles of wine that I can, I'll get good practice for when he inevitably throws me out of here.
00:05:14.200 And maybe that'll be a little something that I can take with me.
00:05:17.700 Wink is wonderful.
00:05:19.700 One thing that's a difficulty when you're selecting wine, one thing that's a little bit difficult is that nobody knows anything about wine.
00:05:27.320 And everyone pretends to.
00:05:28.420 So they say, oh, yes, it's got hints of alcohol in it.
00:05:32.280 Mm, yeah, it tastes a lot like grapes.
00:05:34.140 Mm, yeah, yeah.
00:05:34.840 But you don't really know, which is why it's very nice to have someone guide you through that process.
00:05:39.640 What Wink does is make it a lot easier to discover great wine.
00:05:43.540 The wine experts at Wink will match wines to your taste, personalize them for you, ship them right to your door, starting at just $13 a bottle.
00:05:52.560 Look, in the old days, I would drink, what do they call it, two buck chuck and whatever stuff they had on the clearance rack.
00:06:00.580 Life is too short, folks.
00:06:02.320 Life is too short for disgusting wine.
00:06:05.720 You need, come on, treat yourself, have some good wine, especially when you can get a very good deal on it starting at just $13 a bottle.
00:06:12.700 There is nothing like coming home to a delicious Wink wine selected just for you.
00:06:18.480 It will be the best day of your month.
00:06:20.500 Just fill out Wink's palette profile quiz.
00:06:23.100 Answer simple questions that your average store clerk wouldn't ask or translate into a recommendation.
00:06:28.980 Some questions on this profile, you know, I took mine a little while ago.
00:06:32.460 They'll say, how do you like your coffee?
00:06:34.280 Or how do you use salt?
00:06:35.800 How do you use things that you wouldn't, it isn't just like, hey, how much do you want to drink?
00:06:39.320 A lot, okay, that's how I would answer.
00:06:41.820 They're much more attuned into your taste palette.
00:06:44.900 So if I go to the wine store, I see a gazillion wines, I don't know what to get.
00:06:48.600 A Wink will make that so much easier for you.
00:06:51.060 They send you wines curated to your taste.
00:06:53.000 The more wines you rate, the more personalized your monthly selections become.
00:06:56.600 Each month, there are new delicious wines.
00:06:59.560 For instance, the very popular Summer Water Rosé.
00:07:02.320 I once had a good conservative friend of mine try to convince me that Rosé is really the most masculine of wines.
00:07:09.520 Because it hides its fortitude behind a patina of lightness and levity.
00:07:14.640 That might be true or not.
00:07:15.940 I certainly like a good Rosé.
00:07:17.760 Each month, new delicious wines will be sent to you.
00:07:20.780 No membership fees.
00:07:23.380 You can skip any month.
00:07:24.640 You can cancel any time.
00:07:26.240 It's all up to you.
00:07:27.160 You're not going to get roped into something that you don't want.
00:07:29.340 It is all exactly however much you want and what you want.
00:07:32.840 Shipping is covered.
00:07:34.160 And if you don't like a bottle they send you, they will replace it with a bottle that you will love.
00:07:37.980 No questions asked.
00:07:39.580 Don't say I never did nothing for you.

00:08:04.660 Let's get back into it.
00:08:06.440 You write, Brigitte, in They Must Be Stopped.
00:08:10.100 You write, quote,
00:08:11.040 Westerners do not understand Middle Eastern culture, its religion, Islam, and how Islam as a political and religious ideology drives and impacts every aspect of the culture and its people.
00:08:22.760 Westerners come from a Judeo-Christian background where the teaching of faith centers on love, tolerance, and forgiveness.
00:08:27.880 They do not understand that the sword of Islam, so glamorized on film, represents hatred, intolerance, murder, and the subjugation of anyone not Muslim.
00:08:37.700 That seems a little harsh.
00:08:38.880 No, I spent a weekend in Beirut a couple years ago.
00:08:42.000 I had a lovely time, very nice people.
00:08:43.900 You, of course, spent an entire childhood outside of that cosmopolitan city.
00:08:48.140 What did you observe growing up in Lebanon that we are missing in the West?
00:08:52.040 Well, I'm going to start with the Arab nation treatment of the Jewish population immediately after the state of Israel got its independence.
00:09:02.580 When we talk in the West about the radicalization of these new groups like al-Qaeda or al-ISIS, it's only a radical minority.
00:09:11.760 Most people are not learning history or paying attention to history.
00:09:15.660 Almost one million Jews were expelled out of Arab land immediately after Israel was declared the state.
00:09:21.940 Most people were put on buses and set on fire as they were playing Jews.
00:09:26.200 Now, these people were being expelled by their own government, by their own neighbors, by their own friends, by their own countrymen.
00:09:34.160 We, as minorities in the Middle East, understand what it's like to be a minority in the sea of a large Islamic Middle East.
00:09:41.660 Lebanon used to be the only majority Christian country in the Middle East.
00:09:45.380 We were open-minded.
00:09:46.600 We were tolerant.
00:09:47.460 We were fair.
00:09:48.500 We had open border policy.
00:09:50.040 We welcomed everyone into our country because we wanted to share with them the westernization which we had created in the heart of the Middle East.
00:09:58.200 Muslims used to send their children to study in our universities because we had built the best universities in the Middle East.
00:10:04.860 Their kids graduated and worked in our economy because we had built the best economy in the Middle East, even though we did not have any oil.
00:10:13.100 Beirut became Paris of the Middle East.
00:10:15.100 Unfortunately, all that began to change as the Muslims became the majority and we Christians became the minority.
00:10:22.340 And once the call of war was declared, the call of jihad, and that happened because of the influx of the Palestinians, when Jordan expelled them and Lebanon, being a fair and open and open-minded and tolerant country, it was the only country that accepted the third wave of Palestinian refugees, which most of the Arabic countries did not want them.
00:10:43.060 They were majority Muslims, and we, the Christians, accepted them.
00:10:46.760 Once the Palestinians came in, they put their heads together with the Muslims in Lebanon, and they have become the majority and we the minority.
00:10:54.440 And that's when they declared war, basically, on Lebanon.
00:10:58.080 What they tried to do is basically create a base from which to fight Israel, kill the Jews, and throw them into the sea, something they tried to do in Jordan but failed because of the dictatorship of the king in a Muslim country.
00:11:10.620 But they were able to do that in Lebanon, taking care, taking advantage of our democracy and open-mindedness.
00:11:17.260 So I saw it up close and personal, what happens to minorities in the Middle East, whether you are a Christian, whether you are a Jew, whether you are a Yazidi.
00:11:27.620 I mean, look what ISIS did to the Yazidis.
00:11:29.680 Whether you are a Kurd, it doesn't matter.
00:11:32.020 So my story is just a small example of what's happening all across the Middle East to different denominations and different groups who happen not to be Islamic.
00:11:42.680 Israel is a good place to enter into this topic, too, because our own politicians in the West seem to blame us for Islamic terror attacks on us.
00:11:52.800 Barack Obama prattles on in total ignorance about the Crusades, the Gulf Wars.
00:11:58.000 And then, of course, the activist left blames Israel.
00:12:00.620 Now, the Israeli army, from what I read, saved your mother's life.
00:12:04.940 How did the reality of Israel contradict the propaganda that you grew up with?
00:12:10.760 Oh, my goodness.
00:12:12.480 When I was 10 years old, Islamists blew up my home, bringing it down, burying me under the rubble wounded.
00:12:18.680 I ended up in a hospital for two and a half months and later ended up living in a bomb shelter underground without electricity, water, and very little food, as you mentioned in the introduction.
00:12:28.540 We thought the world is going to come save us.
00:12:31.480 We thought, you know, America, all the Christian countries are going to hear what's happening to the Christians in Lebanon, the slaughters, the massacre, and they're going to come save us.
00:12:39.680 And we waited and we waited and nobody came.
00:12:41.600 And meanwhile, Islamic radicals, the combined forces of Palestinians and Muslims, and they were all Muslims, started massacring the Christians and killing the Christians.
00:12:51.280 I come from a town in southern Lebanon, and we knew what our faith was going to be because we heard what's happening to the rest of the Christians in Lebanon.
00:12:58.300 Our back was to Israel.
00:13:00.420 I lived five kilometers from the Israeli border.
00:13:03.020 So a few people from my town decided to go to Israel to the border and beg for help because they knew that if we go to the Jews and beg for help, the Jews are not going to slaughter us because we had more shared values with them than we had with the Muslims.
00:13:16.560 So a few people from my town went to Israel and begged for help.
00:13:20.320 And Israel started coming in the middle of the night, bringing in ammunition for the military, bringing in food for the military, food for the children, even bomb shelters for those who did not have bomb shelters.
00:13:31.820 And this is how we survived for another three years.
00:13:34.640 I remember, at the age of 13 years old, three years into our ordeal, and the only way we're surviving is because the Israeli army is basically protecting us and sending ammunition in the middle of the night and training the Christians how to fight so we can stay alive.
00:13:50.240 I remember, Michael, at the age of 13, dressing in my burial clothes because we heard that we were going to be attacked that night.
00:13:57.820 And a friend of ours stopped by and he said, Brigitte, if I don't see you tomorrow, I wish you a merciful death.
00:14:03.120 And he gave me a hug and left.
00:14:05.440 And I remember dressing in my Easter dress, my Sunday best, because I wanted to look pretty when I am dead, knowing that when they come to slaughter me, there would be no one to bury me.
00:14:16.960 And I remember crying, begging my mother, I don't want to die.
00:14:20.600 I'm only 13 years old.
00:14:22.640 And there was nothing my mother could say to me.
00:14:25.280 And I remember sitting in the corner of our bomb shelter.
00:14:27.780 We had a ceasefire for two hours.
00:14:29.580 And my father started praying from Psalms.
00:14:32.420 We held hands and my father started praying, I shall walk into the valley of death and fear no evil, for thou art with me.
00:14:39.420 And my parents said to me, when they come to slaughter us tonight, we will create a distraction.
00:14:45.220 We want you to run towards Israel and never look back.
00:14:48.740 We are old.
00:14:49.560 You are a young child.
00:14:50.600 Just run towards Israel.
00:14:52.580 Thank God I did not have to make that difficult decision that night.
00:14:55.860 Because that's the night when Israel came in physically into Lebanon and established security zone around our homes to make sure we are protected, that the Palestinians and Muslims will not be able to come into our town and slaughter us.
00:15:08.700 And this is how we ended up surviving another five years.
00:15:12.900 And at the end of the five years, it was seven years in the bomb shelter so far.
00:15:18.300 Israel invaded Lebanon, working with the Christians in Lebanon, trying to help them take back their democracy.
00:15:23.840 Because by that time, we had 11 Islamic terrorist organizations operating out of Lebanon, including the PLO.
00:15:31.660 So Israel invaded Lebanon, working with the Christians, hoping to establish peace with the Christians in Lebanon and kick out the radical Islamic element.
00:15:40.620 And that's when my mother became wounded by a Muslim shell exploding in front of our bomb shelter.
00:15:46.900 And we had to take her to Israel for treatment.
00:15:49.180 That really was the turning point in my life.
00:15:51.900 For my mother, it was a life-saving experience.
00:15:55.200 For me, it was a life-changing experience.
00:15:57.460 Of course.
00:15:58.020 How could it not be?
00:15:59.000 And yet now, as you relate what happened to you, as you relate these horrors that you suffered as a child and into adulthood,
00:16:07.480 you are scolded by white liberals in the West and saying, oh, how dare you?
00:16:13.580 How dare you?
00:16:13.920 You don't know.
00:16:14.340 You don't really know about what it's like in Lebanon.
00:16:16.620 You don't really know.
00:16:17.460 You're a hate mongerer.
00:16:19.680 You're giving out hate speech.
00:16:20.860 How do you respond to these white lefties who are accusing you, ignorantly accusing you, of hate speech for just recounting your own experience as a child?
00:16:34.260 Exactly.
00:16:35.200 Recounting my own experience.
00:16:36.980 Michael, I still walk around with shrapnel in my bone.
00:16:40.480 I look at my scars when I take a shower in the morning.
00:16:43.380 Those are the scars that will be with me until the day I die as a mark of evil, of hatred.
00:16:50.580 I understand what happens when people turn a blind eye to evil, thinking it's not going to happen to me.
00:16:56.240 It's all the way over there.
00:16:57.540 Let them all kill each other.
00:16:58.640 Who cares?
00:16:59.800 I come from over there.
00:17:01.520 When I was a 10-year-old child, people said, let them kill each other.
00:17:05.240 Nobody cares what's happening over there.
00:17:06.980 I was the over there.
00:17:08.660 I am now in America.
00:17:10.040 I am the Anne Frank who lived to tell about it.
00:17:13.500 If Anne Frank was alive and she lived, don't you think she would be fighting against Nazism and any sign of Nazism?
00:17:20.640 And warning the world if she saw signs that she recognized as a child, I am the Anne Frank who lived to tell about it.
00:17:28.340 And right now, my Nazism, my Islamic radicalism that I suffered through when I was a child is now a plague inflecting the world, whether it is in Australia or America or Israel or any other place in the world.
00:17:43.680 Right now, what affected me, the evil that attacked me as a child is now attacking the world.
00:17:49.260 And I believe it is my duty.
00:17:51.140 It is the duty of every person who loves peace to stand up and say, we come together with peaceful Muslims, with peaceful people from all religions and all backgrounds who want to make the world a better place for our children and for ourselves and their descendants.
00:18:06.360 We want to leave the world better than the way we received it.
00:18:10.180 Those people we embrace, we welcome, we work with.
00:18:14.200 But if you do not stand up against evil, that says something about you.
00:18:18.980 And unfortunately today, Michael, we are being vilified for standing up against evil.
00:18:25.100 The world is turned upside down, but we cannot allow people to silence us.
00:18:30.420 I was I just came from Israel last night.
00:18:33.480 I was in Israel for the last 12 days and I met with members of the Knesset.
00:18:37.820 I met with members of the IDF.
00:18:39.540 I was actually on top on the rooftop of the IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv.
00:18:44.740 And I recorded videos in Arabic targeted towards the Arabic world, speaking to them and saying, let's have peace together.
00:18:52.460 Enough of the hatred, enough of the killing.
00:18:55.220 Israel is a peaceful nation who wants nothing but peace with its Arab neighbors.
00:18:59.320 Join us.
00:19:00.120 Let's work together towards peace.
00:19:01.600 How can anybody label someone like me as a hate monger?
00:19:06.660 And by the way, here I was on the border with Lebanon and I as a Lebanese was looking at my home across the border and I couldn't even drive five minutes to be able to visit my home of birth and take my children to see where I come from.
00:19:22.600 Because Hezbollah wants my head on a platter simply because I want peace with the state of Israel.
00:19:28.820 Well, this, it's why I'll bring up making fun of the white liberals here because it seems so morally backward and so absurd.
00:19:37.860 They're confusing this question of race with a question of religion, with a question of ideas.
00:19:45.000 The left calls disagreement with Islam racist.
00:19:48.120 They call you a racist, even though you're the same race as all of these people.
00:19:53.120 That's right.
00:19:53.680 And my mother tongue is Arabic.
00:19:55.900 But you, and I can read the Quran in the language in which it was written.
00:20:00.400 I don't even need a translated copy from care in order for me to understand Islam.
00:20:05.480 You can read it in the original language.
00:20:07.880 You can post videos in that language.
00:20:10.620 The left seems to equate religion with race because, but race is inborn.
00:20:16.460 Religion is a set of ideas.
00:20:17.880 And clearly we think those ideas are wrong.
00:20:20.200 If we thought those ideas were right, we would be Muslims.
00:20:23.400 If anybody thought those ideas were right, they would become Muslims.
00:20:27.440 But they're not.
00:20:28.600 How do we explain to people that Islam is not a race?
00:20:32.360 That religion is a matter of ideas and we can disagree over ideas without having racial bigotry?
00:20:41.120 Islam is not a race.
00:20:43.760 Islam is a religion.
00:20:45.100 And people who follow the religion of Islam are from all over the globe, just like Christianity.
00:20:51.200 I mean, there are black Christians in Nairobi.
00:20:55.560 They are in Nigeria.
00:20:57.440 There are black Christians in Africa.
00:21:00.040 There are blonde Christians in Switzerland.
00:21:02.520 People come from all shapes and colors who follow a religion.
00:21:05.760 We have to differentiate between people and between religion.
00:21:09.780 In the Islamic world, you have people who speak Arabic who come from all over the world.
00:21:13.460 Look, we have Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam in the United States.
00:21:17.860 How many black Americans can speak Arabic or read the Koran in Arabic?
00:21:22.360 I mean, let's face reality.
00:21:24.280 But they follow Islam as a religion.
00:21:26.960 And again, not all Muslims are radical.
00:21:29.260 There are a lot of peaceful Muslims who do not want to have anything to do with radicalism.
00:21:33.720 Look at my national conference, at Act for America's national conference last year.
00:21:37.720 We had Raheel Raza, who is actually a practicing Muslim.
00:21:41.300 She is a Sunni, her husband is a Shiite, and they call their children sushi.
00:21:45.800 So, you know, you have people like her who want to have nothing to do with radical Islam.
00:21:50.180 They actually condemn it.
00:21:51.520 Yet she is also condemned, and she is called a racist, even though she is a Pakistani with brown skin.
00:21:57.060 So, this is why we cannot allow ourselves to stop and listen to anybody who wants to criticize us.
00:22:04.080 I tell our people, focus on the end goal.
00:22:07.040 If you have to stop and answer every dog that barks, you will never reach your destination.
00:22:13.560 So, don't let barking dogs stop you from reaching your end destination.
00:22:18.500 Focus on the end.
00:22:19.400 This is exactly why, Michael, I started Act for America.
00:22:23.380 A-C-T-F-O-R-A-M-E-R-I-C-A dot org.
00:22:26.120 Act for America.
00:22:27.560 We are the largest national security grassroots organization in the country.
00:22:31.460 We have almost a million members.
00:22:33.820 We have 1,000 chapters nationwide.
00:22:36.400 We have been able to pass almost 100 bills nationwide, 13 bills in Congress, and over 80 bills in 32 states across the country to protect the nation.
00:22:47.160 So, I encourage those who are listening right now, join us so together we can make a one mega voice in defense of our country.
00:22:55.280 Go to our website, actforamerica.org, and join us as an activist, start a chapter, as a chapter president.
00:23:02.180 We have to come together and work together regardless what the left says.
00:23:06.260 We cannot let the left dictate the destiny of our nation because we are too busy answering them instead of marching forward to protect our country for our children.
00:23:16.640 I also really like that line of yours, do not let barking dogs stop you on your way to your destination, which I believe is the new motto of United Airlines.
00:23:24.600 This is a recent change for that airline.
00:23:27.180 I want to talk about radical Islam, which you bring up the difference between radical Islam and run-of-the-mill Islam.
00:23:32.740 American political leaders on both sides of the aisle have seen fit to lecture Islamic terrorists on the true nature of Islam.
00:23:40.780 So, George Bush famously called Islam a religion of peace.
00:23:45.140 Barack Obama said the same thing.
00:23:46.800 He said Islam teaches peace.
00:23:48.560 Barack Obama refused even to connect the religion with the terrorist acts done in its name.
00:23:54.600 He preferred euphemisms like extremism, although, of course, Mother Teresa was an extremist too, and not all extremes are created equal.
00:24:02.760 Your book is titled How to Defeat Radical Islam.
00:24:05.520 What is the difference between radical Islam and regular old everyday Islam?
00:24:12.620 Well, I have a chapter in the book titled Purists Drink Their Islam Straight.
00:24:19.180 And I talk about the ideology of Islam.
00:24:22.000 And I talk about what the religion itself says and what the ideology is all about.
00:24:26.800 And I differentiate between the two.
00:24:28.760 For example, Islam is a religion, is a political movement cloaked in religion.
00:24:33.460 Islam is not like Judaism and Christianity.
00:24:36.660 Islam is a political movement.
00:24:39.220 So, the ideology itself is a very violent, bloodthirsty ideology, supremacist ideology, that wants to subjugate everybody who is non-Muslim.
00:24:50.300 I mean, let's face it.
00:24:51.480 The Islamic Empire ruled for 1,400 years.
00:24:54.200 By the time the Islamic Empire ended, 270 million people across the globe have been killed by Islam, radical Islam, but Islam, the ideology.
00:25:06.540 Because unless you are a people of the book, basically Christians and Jews, where you become second-class citizens if you do not want to convert.
00:25:13.860 Anything else, like Buddhists, Hindus, everybody else, where you either become a Muslim or you die.
00:25:18.380 So, the ideology itself is very strict, very violent, very bloodthirsty.
00:25:23.360 Now, a lot of Muslims don't even understand their religion, have never read their religion, but they like the structure of something spiritual.
00:25:31.820 You know, I like to pray five times a day.
00:25:33.980 I like, you know, to go to mosque on Friday.
00:25:36.740 You know, do good with God.
00:25:38.300 But they do not understand their religion.
00:25:40.120 They like the structure of it.
00:25:41.320 Like the majority of African Americans in the United States, who call themselves Muslims, but they don't really understand what Islam, what the Seerah and Hadith and the Quran basically teach.
00:25:52.460 ISIS understands exactly their religion.
00:25:55.880 Al-Qaeda understands exactly their religion.
00:25:58.080 So, for example, when President Obama would talk about al-Baghdadi, the head of ISIS, that he doesn't understand what he's talking about.
00:26:05.040 Al-Baghdadi has a PhD in Islamic theology.
00:26:07.940 He graduated from the University of Iraq with a PhD in Islamic theology.
00:26:13.160 Yeah, but what does that guy know?
00:26:14.300 Barack Obama lived in Indonesia for a couple years, so he's probably the expert, right?
00:26:19.580 Absolutely.
00:26:20.940 Absolutely.
00:26:21.820 So, this is what we're dealing with, education.
00:26:24.520 In America, we have a very short span about history.
00:26:27.400 So, a lot of people in the West also, Michael, do not want to understand history, do not want to read history.
00:26:31.800 It's boring.
00:26:32.860 But this is why they say, if you do not learn from history, you are doomed to repeat it.
00:26:37.840 That's right.
00:26:38.220 And we are seeing the rise of Islamic radicalism, that Islamic caliphate has already been established, and we better pay attention, because when you look at Islamic history, we're seeing the same signs happen again.
00:26:49.140 You know, Ben did a video a few years ago about the radical Muslim minority, which we hear Barack Obama talk about all the time.
00:26:58.060 And just a few statistics from this.
00:27:00.100 In Indonesia, the most populous Muslim country in the world, 200 million Muslims living there, 50% support strict Sharia law, 70% blame the U.S. and Israel for 9-11.
00:27:09.940 In Egypt, 80 million Muslims, 65% support strict Sharia law in every Muslim country, 70% have positive or mixed feelings about Osama bin Laden.
00:27:19.020 Bangladesh, 149 million Muslims, 25% think suicide bombings and the targeting of civilians is justified.
00:27:26.100 A full two-thirds say that honor killings of women can be justified.
00:27:30.340 In Turkey, the most moderate Muslim country, a full 32% of Muslims think honor killings of women can be justified.
00:27:37.460 78% of Iraqis say honor killings of women can be justified.
00:27:42.140 In France, 35% of Muslims say suicide bombings can be justified.
00:27:46.560 In Britain, 78% of Muslims want cartoonists who draw Muhammad to be prosecuted.
00:27:51.800 And finally, in the good old USA, 13% of Muslims think violence against civilians can be justified.
00:27:58.520 Almost 20% are favorably disposed or neutral toward Al-Qaeda.
00:28:03.180 That said, the majority of victims of Muslim terror around the world, of course, are other Muslims.
00:28:10.580 How can we, maybe this will be the point we can close on,
00:28:14.720 How can the West fight Islamic terror without alienating all Muslims?
00:28:22.320 We have to fight Muslim terrorism and we have to stand up for ourselves.
00:28:28.260 Other Muslims, let me put it to you this way.
00:28:32.360 Whatever we have done in the last seven years in trying to win them with love and affection
00:28:36.880 and show them how nice we are and we're not against Islam, anything happens.
00:28:41.420 You see people in Afghanistan or in Pakistan by the hundreds of thousands taking to the street
00:28:46.160 and miraculously, all of a sudden, they all have American flag and Israeli flags
00:28:49.880 and they're burning them and they are chanting death to Israel, death to the United States.
00:28:54.060 So this is what you are looking at.
00:28:55.980 These are the peaceful majority.
00:28:57.640 They are alienated regardless what we say.
00:29:00.140 They are alienated by us simply because we are infidels.
00:29:04.120 This is the reality.
00:29:05.320 This is what I call the irrelevant Muslim majority.
00:29:08.200 And I'm not sure if you saw a clip by me.
00:29:10.120 I was asked one time by a peaceful moderate student, was actually a lobbyist in her mid-30s.
00:29:16.680 She said, well, what about, you know, you're painting all religion with such a broad brush.
00:29:20.420 You know, what about the moderate majority?
00:29:23.800 And I told her, they are irrelevant because when you look at the lessons of history,
00:29:27.820 when you look at Germany, for example, most Germans were peaceful.
00:29:30.920 Yet, it was the Nazis that drove the agenda.
00:29:34.380 And as a result, 60 million people worldwide died.
00:29:39.200 14 million in concentration camps.
00:29:41.160 Almost 6 million were Jews.
00:29:42.840 The peaceful majority were irrelevant.
00:29:44.920 When you look at Russia, for example, most Russians were peaceful.
00:29:48.440 Yet, Russia was able to kill 20 million people.
00:29:51.700 The peaceful majority were irrelevant.
00:29:53.660 When you look at China, most Chinese were peaceful.
00:29:56.340 Yet, China was able to kill 70 million people.
00:29:59.420 The peaceful majority were irrelevant.
00:30:01.860 When you look at Japan, same story.
00:30:04.380 Most Japanese were peaceful.
00:30:06.120 Yet, Japan was able to kill 12 million people, mostly killed with bayonets and shovels.
00:30:11.680 The peaceful majority were irrelevant.
00:30:13.620 And today, when you look at Islamic terrorism victims, and I have to disagree with everybody
00:30:19.020 saying, well, the majority of victims of Islamic terrorism are Muslims.
00:30:23.300 Not true.
00:30:24.020 When you look at the people, 100,000 people died in Lebanon as a result of the war in Lebanon.
00:30:29.580 That's true.
00:30:30.220 That's right.
00:30:30.560 I mean, when you look at murders across the world, look what's happening in Sudan.
00:30:36.700 Remember the Sudanese massacre?
00:30:38.080 Sudan and Congo.
00:30:39.240 Four million people massacred.
00:30:41.720 Four million.
00:30:42.580 And that's in a span of four years.
00:30:44.540 We have not seen four million Muslims dead in the last 16 years since 9-11.
00:30:49.080 This is a lie perpetrated by the leftist media.
00:30:52.600 The reality is, we as a Judeo-Christian culture, as a culture that is not Islamic, are being
00:30:58.760 now attacked because the Islamists have declared war on us.
00:31:02.860 What we have to do is recognize that they have declared war on us.
00:31:07.380 They could care less us saying, well, we don't want to fight you.
00:31:10.420 We're not at war with you.
00:31:11.640 That's irrelevant to them.
00:31:13.040 What we need to focus on is how we protect our culture, our values, our democracy, our
00:31:19.840 freedoms, and attack anybody who wants to erode those freedoms until we win and they
00:31:25.800 lose.
00:31:26.300 And there's no other option.
00:31:27.940 And meanwhile, as you say these things, some atheist university student in the middle of
00:31:34.440 Boston is going to say, oh, what does she know?
00:31:36.920 What does that racist know?
00:31:38.280 What is that?
00:31:38.680 It's really powerful testimony that you give.
00:31:42.700 And you're so right.
00:31:43.760 People always, they'll only focus on Afghanistan or Iraq and they'll say that most of the victims
00:31:49.280 of Islamic terror are Muslims themselves.
00:31:52.820 But they forget the genocide of Christians in the Middle East.
00:31:56.840 They forget the other countries that aren't as fashionable to report on where atrocities
00:32:00.720 are committed against Christians, beheadings, crucifixions, and nothing is being said about
00:32:05.900 it because it's not fashionable in the media.
00:32:07.480 But we're not fashionable.
00:32:09.180 We're not politically correct.
00:32:10.580 And thank you very much, Brigitte, for coming here.
00:32:13.040 The president of Act for America.
00:32:15.520 And also go out and read the book, They Must Be Stopped, Why We Must Defeat Radical Islam
00:32:20.500 and How We Can Do It.
00:32:21.680 Brigitte, thank you for being here.
00:32:23.960 Thank you.
00:32:24.980 All right.
00:32:25.320 We've got to get to the mailbag.
00:32:26.380 Do I, I've got to say goodbye to Facebook and YouTube.
00:32:28.260 Oh, well, I guess I already said goodbye to you, YouTube.
00:32:31.360 But Facebook, I've got to say goodbye to you too.
00:32:33.600 We got some good mailbag questions today.
00:32:35.640 We've got some good stuff.
00:32:36.660 The only way that you can go see it is to subscribe at dailywire.com.
00:32:41.000 What do you get?
00:32:41.580 You get me, you get the Andrew Klavan show, you get the Ben Shapiro show, you get to ask
00:32:45.020 questions in the mailbag.
00:32:46.260 Everybody gets to listen to the mailbag.
00:32:48.880 Only subscribers get to ask questions.
00:32:50.660 Many are called, but few are chosen.
00:32:52.380 You will also get the much more important thing, which is the leftist here's Tumblr.
00:32:57.100 We've said a lot of politically incorrect things on the show today.
00:32:59.680 There have been some, they're going to call Brigitte, who's Arabic, who's part Arab.
00:33:04.860 They're going to call her a racist and the left, they're going to cry and scream because
00:33:09.180 she relays her personal testimony growing up in Lebanon.
00:33:12.840 And, and she said nice things about Israel.
00:33:14.720 That's, uh-oh, that's going to be tough.
00:33:16.460 Make sure you have this to protect you and your family.
00:33:18.760 The leftist here is Tumblr.
00:33:19.780 Go to dailywire.com.
00:33:20.740 We'll be right back.
00:33:21.420 I am going to burn through this mailbag.
00:33:33.760 We have got, we're running a little late, so we are going to just burn through these.
00:33:37.140 From Brett.
00:33:38.240 Hey, Michael, I'm a Protestant and you're always making fun of us.
00:33:41.240 Why is that?
00:33:42.080 I do.
00:33:42.820 It's out of a place of love, but I do that somewhat frequently.
00:33:45.220 Uh, from history, it seems that over time, the Catholic church has incorporated pagan
00:33:51.220 theologies and practices.
00:33:53.000 For one example, Matthew 23, nine clearly states to call no one father for we have one
00:33:58.860 father and he is in heaven and priests in the Catholic church are referred to as father.
00:34:02.960 How can you logically call someone father?
00:34:04.940 If you read this verse, I'm interested in hearing about your faith.
00:34:07.760 I'm assuming you've read into everything being as logical as you are.
00:34:10.720 I hope that your Catholic faith is not cultural or familial.
00:34:14.660 So how do you understand these passages that clearly oppose Catholic theology?
00:34:19.680 Good question.
00:34:21.560 I must remind you, Brett, all shallows are clear.
00:34:24.500 As Dr. Johnson told us, all shallows are clear.
00:34:28.420 If Christ were really forbidding us from calling anybody father, well, then we wouldn't call our
00:34:34.420 earthly father father, would we?
00:34:36.120 We would, do you call your father, dad or father or daddy or papa or, and do you do that?
00:34:40.260 Then clearly, clearly you're rebutting and violating Christ's word.
00:34:46.720 But of course, if we really were forbidden from calling anybody father, then the word father
00:34:51.660 would lose all of its meaning.
00:34:53.100 The reason that we call God the father father is because it tells us something about the nature
00:34:57.520 of God to picture him as a father.
00:35:00.380 The comparison works because we can picture an earthly father.
00:35:03.980 If our Lord meant that from now on father should only ever refer to God, then we would just
00:35:09.440 simply have another word for God, right?
00:35:11.460 We would lose the word for father.
00:35:12.900 We wouldn't have a word for that.
00:35:13.900 We'd just say, but you, hey, you bring me my bottle.
00:35:16.760 Hey, come on you.
00:35:18.060 But we would, we'd have another word for God.
00:35:19.920 We'd lose the word for father.
00:35:21.080 The concept of God as father would be meaningless if we abolished the concept of our fathers on
00:35:25.340 earth.
00:35:26.180 Joseph uses the term to refer to himself in Genesis.
00:35:28.900 He says, so it was not you who sent me here, but God.
00:35:33.740 And he says, made me a father to Pharaoh and Lord of all his house and ruler over all the
00:35:39.200 land of Egypt.
00:35:40.020 Job says, I was a father to the poor.
00:35:42.040 God the father says in Isaiah of Eliakim, he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
00:35:49.540 We hear my father, my father cried to Elijah.
00:35:52.740 In Acts, Stephen refers to our father, Abraham.
00:35:57.000 That's in the New Testament.
00:35:58.400 In Romans, Paul writes of our father, Isaac.
00:36:01.540 Paul refers to Timothy as his child and his son throughout the epistles.
00:36:04.960 He calls Titus his child.
00:36:06.460 Paul writes in 1 Corinthians, I do not write this to make you ashamed, but to admonish you
00:36:10.640 as my beloved children.
00:36:12.680 For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers.
00:36:16.340 For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
00:36:20.900 So is Paul a heretic?
00:36:22.340 John writes to his little children.
00:36:24.420 Peter writes to his son, Mark.
00:36:25.920 Christ, in the same breath as he says, call no man father, also says, call no man master
00:36:30.940 or teacher.
00:36:32.480 Do you call somebody mister?
00:36:34.000 Do you say, hey, Mr. Smith, mister means master.
00:36:36.160 That's all the word means.
00:36:37.140 Do you call anybody doctor?
00:36:38.800 You're going to say, I've got the flu.
00:36:42.400 You, do you say, I've got the flu doctor.
00:36:44.840 Give me some medicine.
00:36:46.180 Christ himself instructs the apostles to teach all nations.
00:36:50.600 If he's saying, call no man teacher, it's a little strange that he would say, you should
00:36:55.700 go teach all nations.
00:36:57.080 Paul writes to the Corinthians and to the Ephesians of the church's office of teacher.
00:37:01.100 Christ here is using hyperbole to underscore the point he's making in the very same chapter
00:37:07.020 that men should not covet places of honor at feasts or the best seats or the honors and
00:37:12.960 titles of men.
00:37:13.720 Christ also instructs that if your right eye causes you to sin, you should pluck it out
00:37:18.920 and throw it away.
00:37:20.080 Yet, we are all given to the, quote, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the
00:37:25.480 pride of life.
00:37:26.460 So, should we all amputate and mutilate ourselves?
00:37:29.420 Should all Christians just be amputees wandering around?
00:37:31.900 Of course, we have literal fathers and of course, we have spiritual fathers.
00:37:34.940 It's throughout the Bible.
00:37:37.080 What we must not do is to confuse the earthly fathers with the true father who is in heaven.
00:37:42.640 When things seem so clear, when they seem, they so clearly rebut the scripture or Catholic
00:37:50.100 theology or whatever, look into it because all shallows are clear.
00:37:53.880 Next question from Corey.
00:37:54.980 What's a good mild cigar for a rookie cigar smoker?
00:37:57.640 Avo No. 9.
00:37:58.640 That's the one.
00:37:59.160 It's a little pricey, but it's a nice cigar.
00:38:00.880 Cusano 18 or Oliva Connecticut Shade are a little less expensive, also very good.
00:38:06.080 An equally important question to the soul because the body is a temple and the temple needs
00:38:10.540 incense.
00:38:11.200 From Christina.
00:38:12.640 Hey Michael, my stepdaughter participated in the school walkout last week.
00:38:15.560 She's in sixth grade.
00:38:16.700 She was not even aware of the walkout until one of her teachers told her about it that
00:38:20.200 day.
00:38:20.820 She was told by her teacher that the walkout was for 17 minutes of silence for the Parkland
00:38:25.300 students.
00:38:26.660 She was then told by her teacher when it was time to walk out.
00:38:30.020 I hadn't talked to my daughter about the walkout because I knew she was not aware of it and
00:38:34.260 I didn't think junior high kids in our district were participating.
00:38:37.480 I thought it was just the high school.
00:38:38.400 I'm really angry about this and feel that my daughter was forced to make a political statement
00:38:42.080 and I don't, that I don't agree with when her teacher told her it's time to walk out.
00:38:46.000 I want to email the superintendent.
00:38:47.200 My husband thinks I'm overreacting.
00:38:48.420 What are your thoughts, Christina?
00:38:49.420 You're not overreacting.
00:38:50.460 That's outrageous.
00:38:51.540 That is such an outrage.
00:38:53.400 It is unbelievable.
00:38:55.220 Absolutely, you should email.
00:38:56.400 This is the purpose of mothers.
00:38:58.040 The purpose of mothers in the public school system is to send angry emails to superintendents
00:39:02.320 when teachers go too far and lose their minds and manipulate children.
00:39:07.260 It is an absolute outrage and the teacher who did it should be fired.
00:39:10.560 No question.
00:39:11.440 From Rodolfo.
00:39:13.020 Dear Michael, master troll extraordinaire.
00:39:14.920 I'm a huge fan.
00:39:15.560 My question is regarding a billboard in my conservative city of Chicago.
00:39:20.080 I think you're being sarcastic.
00:39:21.940 It read, even Blessed Mary wore the hijab.
00:39:24.200 Will you respect it?
00:39:25.940 First off, I support Muslims expressing their faith and I have no issue with the hijab.
00:39:29.320 My question is what are they trying to imply?
00:39:31.540 How do you respond when someone says this to you?
00:39:33.620 Does it matter?
00:39:34.400 Should I even care?
00:39:35.260 Thanks.
00:39:35.540 Love the show.
00:39:36.240 This is a great one.
00:39:37.260 This is the central problem of the left is they always want the appearance of the thing,
00:39:41.940 but not the essence of the thing.
00:39:43.040 They accuse the appearance with the inner life, with the content of it.
00:39:49.640 They like the form.
00:39:50.560 They miss the content.
00:39:51.800 I don't think that people who have trouble with the hijab or who maybe flinch a little
00:39:59.380 bit if they see a whole nation of people wearing full burqa or something, I don't think the
00:40:03.960 issue is they don't like head coverings.
00:40:05.540 People wear baseball caps all the time.
00:40:07.420 People have worn head coverings for all of human history.
00:40:10.220 It isn't the head covering that is the question.
00:40:12.720 The question is what does the head covering represent?
00:40:15.460 What is it a symbol of?
00:40:17.160 What the hijab is a symbol of is Islam.
00:40:20.320 And in this particular case, Islam's treatment of women and Islam's subjugation of women,
00:40:25.340 which does not exactly comport with our Western liberalism and our Western sense of sexual equality
00:40:31.940 and the sense of sexual equality that comes from Christianity in particular.
00:40:35.500 So, I suppose Mary might have worn a head covering.
00:40:40.600 I think probably everybody wore head coverings.
00:40:43.000 Sure, it's a hot place in the Middle East.
00:40:44.780 But the question is what are you really trying to say?
00:40:47.440 What they're really trying to say is that all Christianity and Islam, they're just the
00:40:52.600 same thing, aren't they?
00:40:53.520 They're not the same thing.
00:40:54.960 Islam developed after Muhammad was on a merchant trip with his uncle in Syria and encountered a
00:41:01.580 heretical monk named Bahira, which is why it has some similarities to Christianity, but
00:41:06.160 goes quite down another path.
00:41:08.420 Those are different things.
00:41:09.860 And to suggest that the Virgin Mary is really some secret Muslim or something, which I think
00:41:14.760 is the logical conclusion of that insinuation, is ridiculous.
00:41:19.600 Do we have time for one or two more?
00:41:20.820 One more.
00:41:21.480 Just one more.
00:41:22.460 That's it.
00:41:22.860 Okay, this is a non-religious question.
00:41:24.760 From Marcus, dear St. Michael.
00:41:26.800 It's a religious beginning, but not a question.
00:41:29.160 I live in a small town where it's still considered impolite to bring up politics.
00:41:33.500 I'm a small business owner, and when asked about my politics, I usually respond, commies
00:41:37.400 buy things too, which is a nice way of saying, I hate communists, but I don't let politics
00:41:42.500 get in the way of business.
00:41:43.740 What are ways you would recommend supporting conservative causes without directly outing
00:41:48.100 myself as a conservative?
00:41:49.520 There are a lot of ways to do it, and these days it's very important to do that.
00:41:53.580 You should watch out for social media.
00:41:56.040 It'll come back and bite you.
00:41:57.080 Everything is public now.
00:41:58.060 Now, one way you can do it is donate some money to Republican candidates, but not too
00:42:02.540 much.
00:42:02.900 When it's too much, your donations become a matter of public record.
00:42:07.100 But that said, I don't know how much people are going to be looking into you.
00:42:10.020 That said, do business.
00:42:11.040 Calvin Coolidge said it very well.
00:42:12.620 The primary business of the American people is business, that you're keeping the engine
00:42:17.340 going.
00:42:17.840 It's an important thing to think about politics.
00:42:20.100 But C.S.
00:42:20.520 Lewis pointed out when there are times of great political strife, you shouldn't ignore politics.
00:42:26.000 To do so would be like a sick patient ignoring his disease.
00:42:29.840 It could kill you.
00:42:30.740 But you shouldn't think that politics is the end of it.
00:42:32.940 The reason we have politics, the reason we talk about politics is so that we can do other
00:42:36.940 things like business, like art, like culture.
00:42:40.060 Do all of that.
00:42:40.680 That's just fine.
00:42:41.320 There are some of us in the muck who are in politics all the time.
00:42:45.080 And if you're able to conduct business and do all of that, that's a wonderful thing.
00:42:50.360 That's a very, that is the reason that we do politics is to have that full civil society
00:42:55.760 and that prosperous economy and the good life, man, the American dream.
00:43:00.740 Okay.
00:43:01.040 That's what we have more questions, but I'm sorry.
00:43:02.760 We ran out of time.
00:43:04.020 That is our show.
00:43:05.080 I'm going to be in New York next week.
00:43:06.540 I'm going to be doing a couple of speeches, one at Yeshiva University and one at Ithaca.
00:43:11.080 So I'll be traveling.
00:43:12.280 We'll be on the road.
00:43:12.820 It should be a lot of fun.
00:43:14.040 Maybe I'll spot you around town somewhere.
00:43:16.600 A good place to find me will be any of the cigar bars in New York.
00:43:20.020 In the meantime, I'm Michael Knowles.
