00:00:30.540 Pope Francis praises exorcism 0.98

00:00:33.060 as demand for casting out demons skyrockets.

00:00:36.580 Meanwhile, a new archaeological dig

00:00:38.600 has uncovered the largest mass child sacrifice

00:00:42.020 in the history of the world in pre-Columbus, Peru.

00:00:45.300 These days, governments rely primarily on socialism

00:00:47.560 to murder their citizens' children, 0.93

00:00:49.000 but the UK's National Health Service

00:00:51.040 has promised to study the pagan bloodbath 1.00

00:00:53.500 for helpful tips.

00:00:54.980 At Yale, scientists have resurrected a decapitated pig.

00:00:58.340 At a North Carolina prison,

00:01:00.000 a transgender inmate is suing to practice witchcraft.

00:01:03.620 We will cast out many demons, 0.80

00:01:06.180 ancient and modern, then the mailbag.

00:01:08.480 I'm Michael Knowles, and this is The Michael Knowles Show.

00:01:10.300 Man, that's a big change from yesterday, huh?

00:01:20.480 It's a very schizophrenic week.

00:01:22.260 We started out talking about all this death and destruction,

00:01:24.880 then yesterday was the most covfefe day

00:01:26.960 probably in the last year in American politics.

00:01:30.320 Kanye West just becoming a hat-wearing MAGA supporter,

00:01:34.560 and now today we're back to demons and death 0.96

00:01:36.880 and decapitated pigs and the undead and destruction.

00:01:40.040 Very difficult week.

00:01:41.640 Before we get right into it, plus the mailbag,

00:01:45.260 I have got to tell you about something,

00:01:46.800 and I'm talking mostly to the fellas here.

00:01:50.080 Guys, first of all, we want to thank our sponsor,

00:01:52.380 Keeps, for helping us keep the lights on,

00:01:55.040 but also, Keeps is really phenomenal,

00:01:58.540 and I'm talking to you fellas.

00:02:00.160 Listen, in my life, I have not had many advantages

00:02:04.280 when it comes to the ladies.

00:02:05.540 I'm not exactly an Adonis of a man.

00:02:08.480 You know, I'm not saying I'm ugly.

00:02:09.740 I'm just saying I'm not like a hulking Olympian figure,

00:02:13.480 and, you know, I mean, I've got these Republican politics

00:02:16.220 that always made it a little tough.

00:02:17.320 I was never captain of the football team.

00:02:18.780 One thing I have going for me

00:02:20.040 that helped me score sweet little Elisa

00:02:22.040 is my poofy head of hair.

00:02:24.320 I got a really nice thick head of hair,

00:02:26.080 and I hope to keep it that way.

00:02:28.600 Most guys don't know this.

00:02:29.840 By 35, two out of three men will start losing their hair,

00:04:29.020 We've got the undead pigs. 1.00

00:04:30.440 We've got transgender witches infiltrating our prisons 1.00

00:04:33.200 and we're subsidizing all of it. 0.99

00:04:34.820 And we have child sacrifice today

00:04:36.920 and child sacrifice 500 years ago.

00:04:39.080 Let's turn now to a live stream

00:04:40.620 of the soul of our culture.

00:04:42.660 Oh, my God! 1.00

00:04:44.400 I'm dead and killed! 0.96

00:04:46.000 I'm dead! 0.99

00:04:47.100 I'm dead!

00:04:48.140 I'm dead!

00:04:48.160 I'm dead!

00:04:48.180 Now, this comes after some good news.

00:04:55.620 In 2016, we were able to cast out

00:04:58.160 one demon in particular,

00:05:00.080 which was very important.

00:05:01.300 We were able to cast out Hillary Clinton 0.78

00:05:02.800 and all of her works

00:05:04.000 and all of her empty promises.

00:05:05.960 But, you know, there have been some aftershocks

00:05:08.080 from all of this.

00:05:09.460 We're still writhing a little bit

00:05:11.220 as the demons are purging.

00:05:13.360 And, you know, the devil was very upset

00:05:15.300 when Hillary Clinton lost the presidency.

00:05:16.960 So, we're seeing some cultural aftershocks.

00:05:19.720 And now, there's actually a shortage of exorcists

00:05:23.100 and the demand for exorcism is on the rise.

00:05:26.540 No less a figure than the Pope.

00:05:28.160 Pope Francis talked about this in his weekly address.

00:05:30.780 He urged Christians to drive out evil. 0.99

00:05:34.660 And he said, people have this,

00:05:35.740 I mean, the version of exorcism

00:05:37.300 that everybody thinks about

00:05:38.580 is that, you know, the movie,

00:05:40.680 The Exorcist and the girls writhing on the bed.

00:05:43.060 But exorcism has been around for a very long time.

00:05:47.200 And you see Christ and the apostles

00:05:49.760 cast out demons throughout all of the scriptures.

00:05:52.520 So, if you're a Christian,

00:05:53.380 this certainly shouldn't be anything crazy to you.

00:05:56.320 But what exorcism says,

00:05:58.440 like, the reason we have exorcism

00:06:00.300 is because we know that there's evil in the world

00:06:02.260 and we know evil has a personality.

00:06:04.240 This isn't some crazy superstitious thing.

00:06:06.980 This isn't like worshipping

00:06:08.100 random nature gods or something.

00:06:09.940 We know that there's evil

00:06:11.340 and evil has a personality.

00:06:13.580 So, what the Pope is urging

00:06:14.960 is saying that baptism is the key.

00:06:17.360 The Pope said, quote,

00:06:18.340 We know from experience

00:06:19.420 that the Christian life

00:06:20.480 is always prone to temptation,

00:06:22.480 especially to the temptation

00:06:23.680 to separate from God,

00:06:25.100 from his will,

00:06:25.860 from communion with him,

00:06:26.940 to fall back into the webs

00:06:28.360 of worldly seductions.

00:06:30.080 Baptism prepares and strengthens us

00:06:32.240 for this daily struggle,

00:06:33.660 including the fight against the devil,

00:06:35.240 who, as St. Peter says,

00:06:36.740 like a lion,

00:06:37.480 tries to devour and destroy us.

00:06:40.020 And demand is way up for exorcism.

00:06:43.080 There are actually half a million cases

00:06:45.420 in Italy alone

00:06:46.520 every year that need investigation.

00:06:48.980 And again,

00:06:49.540 this is always caricatured

00:06:51.060 by the mainstream media

00:06:51.880 and by the secular left.

00:06:53.200 They have these images 0.99

00:06:53.960 of crazy superstitious Christians 1.00

00:06:56.820 going around 1.00

00:06:57.680 and, you know,

00:06:58.580 doing all sorts of voodoo 0.98

00:06:59.620 to cast out demons.

00:07:00.680 That isn't the case at all.

00:07:02.180 The Vatican is actually quite clear

00:07:04.260 that in a great many of these cases,

00:07:07.940 of these half a million cases,

00:07:09.220 the issue is mental illness

00:07:10.700 or some other psychological issue.

00:07:13.220 But nevertheless,

00:07:14.080 that's why the Vatican

00:07:15.300 investigates these so thoroughly.

00:07:17.180 And all of these cases

00:07:18.240 need to be investigated.

00:07:19.300 And it is a little strange

00:07:20.300 that the numbers keep ticking up

00:07:22.040 of people demanding this.

00:07:23.320 Even as religiosity declines,

00:07:26.000 nevertheless,

00:07:26.320 there seems to be an uptick

00:07:29.040 in accounts of demonic possession.

00:07:31.240 Maybe that's not so surprising

00:07:34.140 that those two things go together.

00:07:36.180 Now, there are two major news stories today

00:07:38.600 which involve child sacrifice.

00:07:40.920 And this might be a sign

00:07:42.740 that the exorcism is a good idea. 0.91

00:07:44.920 This might be a sign of the times

00:07:47.140 that things aren't going so well

00:07:48.960 on a spiritual level.

00:07:50.320 It cannot be a good sign.

00:07:51.580 There's a new archaeological dig

00:07:53.180 which shows that

00:07:54.880 the largest mass child sacrifice

00:07:57.580 in human history

00:07:58.720 took place on Peru's northern coast.

00:08:02.040 This is according to National Geographic.

00:08:04.200 This exceeds the previous

00:08:05.680 record-holding Aztecs

00:08:07.200 who lived in modern-day Mexico.

00:08:09.700 The Aztecs murdered 42 children 0.67

00:08:11.420 at Templo Mayor

00:08:12.300 and possibly a sacrifice in Carthage.

00:08:16.920 Though that's unclear.

00:08:17.980 The one in Carthage,

00:08:19.080 it's not clear if this was actually

00:08:20.320 child sacrifice

00:08:21.100 or some other reason

00:08:23.000 why all these kids were dead.

00:08:24.820 But the one here,

00:08:26.220 more than 140 children

00:08:27.980 and 200 young llamas

00:08:29.900 were ritually sacrificed

00:08:31.700 around 550 years ago

00:08:34.440 within the Chimiu Empire.

00:08:36.640 550 years ago.

00:08:37.600 This might make you say

00:08:38.340 550 years ago.

00:08:40.120 That is before

00:08:41.460 a certain Spanish,

00:08:43.740 a certain Italian sailor

00:08:44.960 sailing for Spain

00:08:45.920 made it to the Americas.

00:08:47.140 Hmm, 550 years ago.

00:08:48.700 That's so strange.

00:08:49.500 I thought all the bad things

00:08:50.460 came to America

00:08:51.140 with Columbus.

00:08:52.280 I thought,

00:08:52.540 because that's why

00:08:52.980 we're taking down his statues, right?

00:08:54.620 We're taking it

00:08:55.000 because he was a really bad guy

00:08:56.100 and all of the natives

00:08:56.740 were really good guys

00:08:57.600 except that the natives 0.93

00:08:59.500 before Columbus got there

00:09:00.720 committed the largest

00:09:02.360 mass child sacrifice

00:09:03.320 in the history of the world.

00:09:04.480 Within the Chimiu Empire,

00:09:05.880 the Chimiu would be conquered 1.00

00:09:07.500 within a few decades

00:09:08.560 by the Incas

00:09:09.360 and the Incas would be conquered 0.87

00:09:10.780 100 years later

00:09:11.520 by the Spanish.

00:09:13.020 So we know that

00:09:14.120 human sacrifice

00:09:15.020 was very common

00:09:15.900 to these pre-Columbus cultures.

00:09:18.440 The Aztec,

00:09:19.340 the Maya,

00:09:19.900 the Inca.

00:09:21.100 We know there was

00:09:21.740 cannibalism in the Caribbean.

00:09:23.800 We know there was cannibalism

00:09:24.640 among the Iroquois.

00:09:25.560 What we didn't know

00:09:26.880 is how widespread

00:09:28.480 child sacrifice was.

00:09:30.640 It seems a little worse.

00:09:31.500 If you're going to sacrifice somebody,

00:09:32.620 better to do it.

00:09:33.540 Adult has lived something of a life,

00:09:35.120 you know,

00:09:35.320 rather than a poor little kid.

00:09:36.880 The majority of victims

00:09:38.040 at this site

00:09:39.120 are estimated to be

00:09:40.020 between the ages of

00:09:40.680 8 and 12 years old

00:09:41.840 when they were killed.

00:09:42.920 Their faces were smeared

00:09:43.840 with red pigment,

00:09:44.680 their chests were cut open,

00:09:45.660 and their hearts were removed.

00:09:47.260 Same thing with the llamas.

00:09:48.540 So the question is,

00:09:49.800 why did they do it?

00:09:52.060 Well, the reason they did it,

00:09:53.840 archaeologists,

00:09:55.280 and historians believe,

00:09:56.600 is that they were negotiating

00:09:57.580 with pagan nature gods.

00:09:59.500 So there were El Nino storms

00:10:01.420 that were coming in,

00:10:02.920 and it's a very human temptation.

00:10:05.260 Sacrifice is a natural part 0.96

00:10:07.960 of humanity

00:10:08.480 where we see bad things

00:10:10.440 happening around us

00:10:11.200 that we can't control,

00:10:12.320 and we want to offer something

00:10:13.780 to appease the forces

00:10:15.740 that are greater than us

00:10:17.120 that are doing it.

00:10:17.980 So I guess the adult sacrifices

00:10:19.420 weren't working,

00:10:20.120 and they decided

00:10:21.240 to start sacrificing children.

00:10:23.740 Presumably,

00:10:24.260 the flooding kept going on.

00:10:26.120 We see this today.

00:10:27.100 We see this sort of sacrifice

00:10:28.320 going on today.

00:10:29.100 We see it in abortion.

00:10:30.340 In abortion, 1.00

00:10:31.000 we sacrifice our children

00:10:32.160 to the gods of sexual freedom

00:10:34.340 and materialism.

00:10:35.680 It's the same thing.

00:10:36.600 We are sacrificing our children

00:10:38.120 to our own gods.

00:10:39.960 And in some cases now,

00:10:41.340 we actually are sacrificing children

00:10:42.980 to nature gods.

00:10:43.800 How many of your lefty,

00:10:45.280 granola-crunching,

00:10:47.260 hippie friends say,

00:10:49.100 man, I can't have kids.

00:10:50.320 I don't want to have kids, man,

00:10:51.660 because it's bad

00:10:52.420 for the environment.

00:10:53.640 How could I bring a kid

00:10:54.740 into this world?

00:10:55.200 You hear those

00:10:55.700 from environmental extremists.

00:10:57.820 They say it's awful.

00:10:59.460 It's a sin against nature

00:11:00.620 to bring children

00:11:01.220 into the world

00:11:01.840 because of overpopulation

00:11:03.740 and deforestation

00:11:04.980 and all of these

00:11:06.280 random sacrifices to nature.

00:11:11.540 And in Uganda, by the way,

00:11:12.800 child sacrifice

00:11:13.900 to nature spirits

00:11:15.200 in the more traditional sense

00:11:16.260 is still going on.

00:11:18.020 It's still practiced today.

00:11:19.740 We see it all around.

00:11:21.040 We like to say that,

00:11:22.600 oh, you know,

00:11:23.000 we're in modern times

00:11:24.060 and we're so much more civilized.

00:11:25.960 We don't sacrifice

00:11:27.420 our children anymore.

00:11:28.640 We don't do these awful,

00:11:29.660 barbaric things

00:11:30.300 in the bad old time past.

00:11:31.880 But we absolutely do.

00:11:33.320 We do it on actually

00:11:34.060 a much larger scale

00:11:35.100 when you consider abortion.

00:11:37.240 And just look at the case

00:11:38.620 right across the pond now

00:11:39.820 because the Chimu,

00:11:40.880 the Chimu empire

00:11:41.660 is very impressive.

00:11:42.440 In the civilized West,

00:11:44.100 we mostly don't sacrifice

00:11:45.700 our children

00:11:46.240 to the gods of the weather.

00:11:47.660 Rather, we sacrifice them

00:11:49.180 on the altar of socialism.

00:11:50.900 We sacrifice our children

00:11:52.120 to socialism.

00:11:53.360 That's what this

00:11:53.920 Alfie Evans case

00:11:54.860 is all about,

00:11:55.880 all about in the UK.

00:11:58.040 Alfie Evans was given

00:11:59.160 Italian citizenship

00:12:00.200 because the,

00:12:01.560 Italy is perfectly willing

00:12:03.680 to have Alfie come over

00:12:05.020 and receive further

00:12:05.900 medical treatment.

00:12:06.840 The Pope has asked

00:12:08.560 to bring Alfie into Italy

00:12:11.560 to the Bambino Gesù

00:12:13.460 hospital for treatment.

00:12:16.020 Alfie was taken off

00:12:17.160 life support

00:12:17.680 by the bureaucrats,

00:12:18.800 the socialist bureaucrats

00:12:19.940 in the UK,

00:12:21.280 denied oxygen,

00:12:22.480 denied food,

00:12:23.260 denied water.

00:12:24.080 Alfie's father

00:12:24.720 had to give him

00:12:25.320 mouth to mouth

00:12:25.960 because even though

00:12:27.120 he's in a hospital,

00:12:28.640 the bureaucrats there

00:12:29.920 refused to give him

00:12:30.920 medical treatment.

00:12:31.800 And not just that,

00:12:32.900 they refused to let him home.

00:12:34.400 They refused to let the parents

00:12:35.920 bring him elsewhere

00:12:36.720 for further treatment.

00:12:37.700 They're holding

00:12:38.200 an Italian citizen hostage

00:12:39.560 until he dies.

00:12:41.060 The parents are pleading, 0.78

00:12:42.500 the people around the world

00:12:43.560 are pleading,

00:12:44.260 and the Pope is pleading,

00:12:46.040 and the bureaucrats,

00:12:47.220 the socialists

00:12:47.980 at the UK

00:12:48.460 will not do it.

00:12:49.660 The National Health Service

00:12:50.720 will not do it.

00:12:52.020 The federal judges there

00:12:53.160 will not do it.

00:12:54.500 And they won't give a reason.

00:12:56.400 The reason that they give,

00:12:57.760 they say,

00:12:58.120 it's in Alfie's interests.

00:13:00.180 It's in Alfie's best interests,

00:13:01.620 don't you know?

00:13:03.300 Well, what interests?

00:13:04.660 What interests does he have?

00:13:06.720 What they're saying is

00:13:08.200 he doesn't have much of a life

00:13:09.540 left in front of him.

00:13:10.800 He's terminally ill. 0.75

00:13:11.920 He's going to die very soon. 0.86

00:13:14.260 Okay. 0.92

00:13:15.140 So then why can't,

00:13:16.300 so then I guess

00:13:17.820 there isn't much interest

00:13:18.780 in the rest of his life.

00:13:19.800 Why not let the parents

00:13:20.840 take him on the glimmer of hope

00:13:23.060 that he could live

00:13:24.260 a little bit longer?

00:13:25.380 Oh, it's not in his best interests.

00:13:27.100 This is the altar of socialism.

00:13:28.780 And it will crush you.

00:13:30.180 This is not about,

00:13:31.180 about providing care.

00:13:33.320 This is about

00:13:33.900 the government telling you

00:13:36.280 what you can do

00:13:37.020 with your own children,

00:13:37.920 with your own lives.

00:13:39.040 This is why

00:13:39.600 this would never happen

00:13:40.440 in the United States.

00:13:41.860 Not in the near future,

00:13:42.900 at least,

00:13:43.440 because we have

00:13:44.240 a second amendment here.

00:13:45.660 And if the government said

00:13:47.280 we are going to insist 0.99

00:13:48.340 on murdering your child, 1.00

00:13:50.680 Americans have a second amendment

00:13:52.560 and they would return the favor.

00:13:54.100 They would absolutely go back

00:13:55.280 and return the favor.

00:13:56.560 It's a,

00:13:57.640 you see this a little bit.

00:13:58.880 This is always

00:13:59.360 the socialist tendency.

00:14:00.860 It's just about control.

00:14:02.120 You see it with e-cigarettes.

00:14:04.060 So, you know,

00:14:04.640 in the early 2000s

00:14:06.460 they decided

00:14:07.040 that you couldn't smoke

00:14:08.440 indoors anymore.

00:14:09.920 And so you can't, 0.92

00:14:10.780 no longer can you smoke

00:14:11.780 in restaurants smoking.

00:14:12.840 Some people don't like

00:14:13.480 the smell.

00:14:13.960 Okay.

00:14:14.760 But then it became

00:14:15.640 you couldn't smoke outdoors.

00:14:18.260 Why can't I smoke outdoors?

00:14:19.660 If I'm sitting,

00:14:20.280 this happened to me

00:14:20.820 in New York.

00:14:21.300 I was smoking a cigar

00:14:22.180 in a park

00:14:22.780 and a cop came over 0.78

00:14:24.600 and said,

00:14:24.880 you can't smoke that here.

00:14:25.860 I said, why not?

00:14:26.400 I'm outside.

00:14:26.920 He said, no,

00:14:27.400 it's not allowed anymore.

00:14:29.440 I said,

00:14:30.580 excuse, 0.89

00:14:30.840 do you ever smoke cigars?

00:14:32.660 What do you mean

00:14:32.940 I can't smoke a cigar outside?

00:14:34.320 And he was embarrassed

00:14:35.320 but he let me go away.

00:14:37.080 And, you know,

00:14:37.900 if you're sitting

00:14:38.340 in a park in New York

00:14:39.240 you're inhaling

00:14:39.760 many more toxic fumes

00:14:40.900 from the buses

00:14:41.520 all around you

00:14:42.280 than you are

00:14:43.020 from the cigars

00:14:44.960 or anything like that.

00:14:45.760 But it's about control.

00:14:46.760 Now you see it

00:14:47.660 with e-cigarettes.

00:14:49.640 They say you can't smoke

00:14:50.460 e-cigarettes indoors.

00:14:51.340 You say this is just

00:14:51.860 water vapor.

00:14:52.540 Say no,

00:14:53.100 control,

00:14:53.960 control,

00:14:54.820 control.

00:14:55.300 We're going,

00:14:55.720 we know what is best for life.

00:14:57.320 We know what is best for you

00:14:58.880 and listen up.

00:14:59.580 So enough about the dead

00:15:00.640 and the dying.

00:15:01.160 Let's talk about the undead

00:15:02.200 because we can move over

00:15:03.580 to Yale University

00:15:05.520 in other equally ghoulish news.

00:15:07.880 Scientists at Yale

00:15:08.700 have resurrected

00:15:09.320 a decapitated pig.

00:15:10.600 Here is a live shot

00:15:11.520 from the laboratory

00:15:12.120 in New Haven.

00:15:12.640 That is definitely

00:15:40.280 an improvement

00:15:40.980 movement over shrieking girl. 1.00

00:15:42.280 Clearly the caliber

00:15:43.020 of people at Yale

00:15:43.780 is increasing

00:15:44.540 even if it's Dr. Frankenstein.

00:15:47.400 So what they've done now

00:15:49.280 at Yale 0.97

00:15:49.820 is taken a pig brain 0.98

00:15:51.980 that, you know, 0.99

00:15:53.240 they cut off the pig's head

00:15:54.240 and they plugged it

00:15:55.900 into a bunch of little gizmos

00:15:57.240 and they resurrected the brain.

00:15:59.360 So the brain had living cells.

00:16:00.920 It was a living organ.

00:16:02.580 And this is very horrifying.

00:16:04.460 So they've created 0.98

00:16:05.380 this zombie pig, 0.98

00:16:06.520 but it's just a brain 1.00

00:16:07.580 in a bucket basically.

00:16:08.580 It doesn't have a body

00:16:10.380 or anything.

00:16:11.380 And they've made it

00:16:12.760 come to life again.

00:16:14.540 Now there's no evidence

00:16:15.500 that it was aware,

00:16:16.820 that it was quite conscious,

00:16:18.080 but there's also no reason

00:16:19.280 that they couldn't

00:16:21.000 make the brain conscious.

00:16:22.380 They asked one of the lead doctors

00:16:24.120 on this study

00:16:24.880 if the brain could be conscious.

00:16:27.000 He said,

00:16:27.320 yes,

00:16:27.660 but we're in uncharted waters here

00:16:29.980 and we didn't know

00:16:30.720 how to do that

00:16:31.300 because you'd be in the ultimate

00:16:33.080 sensory deprivation tank.

00:16:34.880 There's no reason

00:16:35.560 that you only could do this 0.77

00:16:36.620 with pigs. 0.95

00:16:37.120 You can obviously,

00:16:39.000 there's no logical reason

00:16:40.560 that you couldn't do it

00:16:41.220 to human brains as well.

00:16:42.760 And you'd be locked

00:16:43.960 in an utter prison, right?

00:16:45.460 There'd be no way

00:16:46.040 really to communicate.

00:16:48.080 But this is all part

00:16:49.200 of a quest for eternal life.

00:16:50.820 So we're now

00:16:51.400 truly creating zombies.

00:16:53.500 And it's hard to imagine

00:16:54.880 that now that this

00:16:56.040 has been proven possible,

00:16:57.480 that scientists won't continue

00:16:58.760 to try to do this

00:16:59.600 at a far greater pace

00:17:01.720 because people have always

00:17:02.720 wanted eternal life.

00:17:03.740 People have always tried

00:17:04.920 to live forever,

00:17:05.720 especially the rich

00:17:06.520 and the powerful

00:17:07.060 and the famous

00:17:07.580 and the decadent,

00:17:08.280 which describes America

00:17:09.440 in 2018.

00:17:11.400 This can't be good

00:17:12.840 for the culture.

00:17:13.640 This cannot be good.

00:17:15.140 One,

00:17:15.640 if you could live forever,

00:17:16.600 would you?

00:17:17.780 If you could live

00:17:18.360 on earth forever,

00:17:19.060 would you?

00:17:19.860 There's a good reading

00:17:21.040 of Genesis,

00:17:22.220 a good book by Leon Kass

00:17:23.680 called The Beginning of Wisdom,

00:17:25.300 where he points out

00:17:26.460 maybe when,

00:17:27.920 you know,

00:17:28.260 Adam and Eve

00:17:28.620 are kicked out of the garden

00:17:29.520 and they're not allowed

00:17:30.500 to eat from the tree of life.

00:17:32.200 And this is considered

00:17:33.880 a punishment by some,

00:17:35.640 but really this was probably

00:17:36.640 a great gift

00:17:37.440 because if we had to live

00:17:38.340 in this fallen,

00:17:39.340 crummy world,

00:17:40.740 which has pervasive evil,

00:17:42.600 if we had to live here forever,

00:17:43.920 that would probably be terrible.

00:17:45.480 That would be hell on earth.

00:17:47.440 Maybe mortality

00:17:48.160 is actually a gift

00:17:49.200 for fallen creatures.

00:17:50.560 Nevertheless,

00:17:51.140 we're tempted

00:17:51.500 to try to live forever

00:17:52.960 because there is

00:17:54.820 a cultural madness.

00:17:57.320 A cultural madness 0.95

00:17:58.040 has pervaded us

00:17:58.860 and you see this

00:18:00.020 no more clearly

00:18:02.080 than at

00:18:03.480 a North Carolina prison.

00:18:05.560 A transgender

00:18:06.200 prison inmate

00:18:07.540 in North Carolina

00:18:08.440 named Jennifer Ann Jasmine

00:18:10.940 is suing

00:18:12.080 the Lanesboro

00:18:12.840 Correctional Institution.

00:18:16.220 Jennifer,

00:18:17.200 who is a man,

00:18:18.900 Jennifer is upset

00:18:19.780 because he wants

00:18:21.260 to practice

00:18:21.960 his religion

00:18:23.020 of witchcraft.

00:18:24.900 Now,

00:18:25.420 ostensibly,

00:18:26.420 he can practice

00:18:27.080 whatever spells

00:18:27.780 and things he wants to do,

00:18:28.860 all on his own,

00:18:30.100 but he's being,

00:18:31.800 he's not being allowed

00:18:32.800 to have a strict vegan diet.

00:18:34.780 He's upset

00:18:35.500 that the prison

00:18:37.020 is not giving him

00:18:37.680 a strictly vegan diet.

00:18:40.080 Now,

00:18:41.780 I would try to find

00:18:43.180 what crime

00:18:43.760 this person committed,

00:18:44.800 but it wasn't

00:18:45.280 readily available.

00:18:46.660 If you commit a crime

00:18:48.580 and you violate

00:18:50.000 someone's life

00:18:50.840 or property

00:18:51.440 or whatever

00:18:51.840 and then you have to go

00:18:52.660 and be punished

00:18:53.200 for that in a prison,

00:18:55.020 you don't get

00:18:55.880 to pick your strict

00:18:57.000 vegan diet.

00:18:57.700 You don't get

00:18:58.620 acai bowls

00:18:59.520 and smoothies

00:19:00.640 and frappuccinos. 0.80

00:19:01.900 You should be punished 0.99

00:19:03.200 and you, 0.94

00:19:04.180 you know,

00:19:04.680 we don't really

00:19:06.280 pursue the death penalty

00:19:07.280 anymore even though

00:19:08.000 we should

00:19:08.440 because it has

00:19:09.160 a lot of health benefits

00:19:10.040 to it.

00:19:10.880 Maybe I'll go into that

00:19:11.960 on another episode,

00:19:13.240 but you don't get,

00:19:15.140 talk about decadence.

00:19:16.800 We have now

00:19:17.600 prison inmates

00:19:18.440 who decide to

00:19:19.920 change their

00:19:20.880 biological sex

00:19:21.920 and now presumably

00:19:23.640 we can pay for that,

00:19:24.940 the taxpayer can pay

00:19:25.820 for that,

00:19:26.340 and is demanding

00:19:27.380 some gourmet diet

00:19:28.620 that he isn't being given.

00:19:31.400 Perhaps he belongs

00:19:32.280 in another sort of institution,

00:19:33.500 that's another aspect of it,

00:19:34.520 he's obviously 1.00

00:19:35.060 a crazy person, 0.99

00:19:35.940 but his madness 0.99

00:19:36.580 is not just personal,

00:19:37.920 it is a madness

00:19:38.660 of the culture.

00:19:39.480 We are living

00:19:39.980 in cultural madness.

00:19:41.200 There is some

00:19:41.680 sort of fun

00:19:42.660 and covfefe aspects

00:19:43.720 of cultural madness

00:19:44.660 and like a kind of

00:19:45.840 good exuberance

00:19:47.440 and exhilaration

00:19:48.560 like we saw yesterday

00:19:49.560 with Kanye

00:19:50.120 and after Kanye

00:19:51.520 came out

00:19:51.980 and said that he

00:19:52.420 supported Donald Trump,

00:19:53.560 Chance the Rapper

00:19:54.140 came out

00:19:54.640 and he said 0.98

00:19:55.260 black people 0.96

00:19:56.900 don't have to vote 0.95

00:19:57.500 for Democrats.

00:19:58.460 This was like,

00:19:58.980 and this is a big revelation

00:20:00.220 because Democrats 0.50

00:20:01.400 think that black people 0.99

00:20:02.200 do have to vote

00:20:02.740 for Democrats.

00:20:03.680 There is something

00:20:04.940 very nice about exuberance,

00:20:06.640 but in this exuberance

00:20:07.620 underlying a lot of it,

00:20:08.800 there is a madness

00:20:09.880 to our culture

00:20:10.660 and this brings us

00:20:13.620 to an important point

00:20:14.480 which is superstition.

00:20:16.880 The witchcraft, 0.95

00:20:18.600 the, you know,

00:20:19.380 using decapitated pigs

00:20:21.540 for our own

00:20:22.260 sort of edification

00:20:24.240 and child sacrifice, 0.98

00:20:26.360 child sacrifice old

00:20:27.440 and child sacrifice new,

00:20:30.220 what is the role

00:20:31.140 of superstition

00:20:31.940 in this society?

00:20:33.860 A lot of shallow people,

00:20:35.340 a lot of the anti-religious

00:20:36.720 writers and thinkers

00:20:37.740 like Sam Harris

00:20:39.440 or Bill Maher,

00:20:40.540 they say that religious people

00:20:41.680 are superstitious.

00:20:43.140 Nothing could be further

00:20:44.040 from the truth.

00:20:45.260 Superstition is the opposite

00:20:46.900 of true religion.

00:20:47.840 You'll find that

00:20:48.880 the most religious people

00:20:50.000 are usually

00:20:50.560 the least superstitious

00:20:51.760 and the least religious people

00:20:53.920 are usually

00:20:54.280 the most superstitious.

00:20:56.400 Now, how is that?

00:20:58.360 The true religion

00:20:59.120 plays a part in it.

00:20:59.840 You have to have

00:21:00.200 the right religion,

00:21:01.400 but think,

00:21:02.060 consider the people,

00:21:02.780 I live in LA,

00:21:03.460 so I have a lot of people

00:21:04.200 like this who say,

00:21:05.420 I'm not going to do

00:21:06.480 a business deal

00:21:07.360 or go on a trip

00:21:08.120 or anything

00:21:08.600 when Mercury

00:21:09.800 is in retrograde.

00:21:11.600 I'm not going to do it.

00:21:12.860 Listen, I'm,

00:21:13.560 listen, you, 0.99

00:21:14.180 you kooky Christian, 1.00

00:21:15.380 what with your church 0.99

00:21:16.960 and your morals

00:21:17.880 and your worship. 1.00

00:21:19.540 Listen, you kooky lunatic, 1.00

00:21:21.420 I'm not going to do 1.00

00:21:22.040 a business deal with you

00:21:22.820 because there's a planet

00:21:24.060 that is a gazillion miles away

00:21:26.280 and it looks like

00:21:27.400 it's going in a different direction

00:21:28.540 at this one point

00:21:29.100 of the year.

00:21:29.700 That is,

00:21:30.820 the absence of religion 0.97

00:21:31.880 breeds superstition.

00:21:33.480 People who knock on wood

00:21:34.760 and sort of worship

00:21:36.160 their ancestors

00:21:37.040 and don't walk under ladders

00:21:39.200 because everybody's

00:21:40.880 got to serve somebody

00:21:41.660 and we know that

00:21:42.560 there is a metaphysical world.

00:21:43.820 We know that life

00:21:45.100 isn't just flesh and meat.

00:21:46.980 We know that

00:21:47.520 because we know anything,

00:21:48.780 right?

00:21:48.920 Because we have thoughts,

00:21:50.040 because we have consciousness,

00:21:51.460 because we know that symbols

00:21:52.500 symbolize certain things

00:21:53.860 and represent things

00:21:55.100 that are beyond

00:21:56.100 the physical world

00:21:57.000 because we have love

00:21:58.180 and joy and fear

00:21:59.460 and we know

00:21:59.980 all of these things.

00:22:01.160 So what we do

00:22:02.900 is when there's not

00:22:03.460 true religion

00:22:03.960 we fill it in

00:22:04.600 with superstition.

00:22:05.660 When we turn away

00:22:06.520 from a coherent theology

00:22:08.060 we fill it in

00:22:09.200 with superstition

00:22:10.160 so we sacrifice

00:22:10.880 our children.

00:22:11.960 We sacrifice them 0.99

00:22:12.760 to false gods. 1.00

00:22:13.580 We sacrifice them 0.83

00:22:14.460 to gods of the weather 0.99

00:22:15.720 or gods of sex

00:22:16.980 or gods of freedom,

00:22:18.400 whatever.

00:22:19.540 Apparent freedom,

00:22:20.400 licentiousness really.

00:22:22.800 That is a madness

00:22:24.300 and so ultimately

00:22:25.800 you know a lot of times

00:22:26.820 people will write in

00:22:27.560 and say

00:22:27.780 can you talk about

00:22:29.240 politics in a less

00:22:30.920 religious way?

00:22:32.220 Stop relating politics

00:22:33.540 to religion.

00:22:34.360 Give me a secular answer.

00:22:35.860 We need a secular answer

00:22:36.800 on the culture.

00:22:37.620 There's no secular answer 1.00

00:22:38.620 on the culture

00:22:39.180 because culture and cult

00:22:40.640 come from the same thing

00:22:41.640 and because politics

00:22:42.960 is downstream of that

00:22:43.880 and it's all downstream

00:22:44.560 of religion.

00:22:45.760 There is no secular 1.00

00:22:47.860 political issue.

00:22:49.100 Even low taxes

00:22:50.020 even low taxes

00:22:50.940 is ultimately

00:22:51.940 a question

00:22:52.600 of theology.

00:22:54.040 What is your relationship

00:22:54.820 to yourself

00:22:56.180 and to God

00:22:56.920 and to nature?

00:22:58.100 What is your relationship

00:22:58.860 to those things?

00:22:59.800 Why is freedom good?

00:23:00.820 Why do you have freedom?

00:23:02.160 Can you be trusted

00:23:03.080 with freedom?

00:23:03.760 Those are religious questions

00:23:04.960 and as we continue

00:23:07.720 to have a shallow view

00:23:09.080 of religion

00:23:09.560 we're going to have

00:23:10.580 superstitious answers

00:23:11.580 so we're going to 1.00

00:23:12.340 chop off pig's heads 1.00

00:23:13.200 and we're going to 1.00

00:23:13.780 sacrifice little children

00:23:15.100 and we're going to

00:23:16.500 continue to sacrifice

00:23:17.420 children all at the

00:23:18.320 altar of false gods.

00:23:19.680 Very bad stuff.

00:23:21.280 Okay, I want to get

00:23:21.940 into the mailbag.

00:23:22.780 I want to be able

00:23:23.160 to answer a question

00:23:23.880 or two before we

00:23:24.820 move in to

00:23:26.240 the rest of the show.

00:23:29.500 Do I have to sign off

00:23:30.220 on Facebook and YouTube

00:23:30.940 or can I get

00:23:31.460 I can get one or two in?

00:23:32.780 All right, I can get one.

00:23:33.800 They're being very nice

00:23:34.460 to me today.

00:23:35.040 From Emily.

00:23:36.600 Hey Michael,

00:23:37.500 my husband and I

00:23:38.240 are pursuing adoption

00:23:39.020 from the foster care

00:23:39.880 system.

00:23:40.360 I've noticed on the

00:23:41.020 profiles of some

00:23:41.780 children that social

00:23:42.700 workers will say they

00:23:43.600 prefer a Protestant

00:23:44.480 family or Catholic.

00:23:46.040 I really don't

00:23:46.800 understand the use of

00:23:47.580 the word Protestant.

00:23:48.500 If they said Baptist 0.71

00:23:49.300 or Lutheran I would

00:23:50.100 understand but they're

00:23:51.280 essentially stating

00:23:52.260 Catholics need not 1.00

00:23:53.200 apply.

00:23:54.200 We are pursuing a

00:23:55.040 group of kiddos whose

00:23:55.980 workers stated that.

00:23:57.380 We aren't far into

00:23:58.100 that process but I

00:23:58.980 assume it will come up

00:23:59.680 soon.

00:24:00.700 How do we make it

00:24:01.320 clear that we are just

00:24:02.580 as Christian as any

00:24:03.420 Protestant?

00:24:04.340 Am I right to feel

00:24:05.260 like this is rather

00:24:06.000 blatant anti-Catholic

00:24:07.040 prejudice?

00:24:07.620 Thanks Emily.

00:24:08.000 Sure it's anti-Catholic 1.00

00:24:09.700 and I suppose anti-Orthodox

00:24:11.420 anti-Eastern Orthodox.

00:24:12.740 I will say on your

00:24:13.720 point that you're just

00:24:14.440 as Christian as any

00:24:15.560 Protestant.

00:24:16.480 Sometimes you'll hear

00:24:17.680 Protestants criticize

00:24:19.040 Catholics or Eastern 0.91

00:24:19.940 Orthodox and they'll say 0.96

00:24:21.000 that's not in the Bible.

00:24:22.060 Those things that you're

00:24:22.940 doing are not in the

00:24:23.680 Bible and my church we

00:24:25.660 stick we just read the

00:24:26.980 Bible.

00:24:27.460 We read what's in the

00:24:28.260 Bible and what you can

00:24:29.080 tell them is that's good

00:24:30.560 but your church wrote the

00:24:31.720 Bible and compiled the

00:24:33.060 Bible.

00:24:33.420 So that maybe that gives

00:24:34.340 you a little advantage or

00:24:36.560 leverage there.

00:24:37.460 It's weird.

00:24:39.100 I think it's I don't

00:24:40.240 really even blame I

00:24:42.520 don't think that this

00:24:43.280 adoption agency has or

00:24:45.620 foster agency has ill will.

00:24:47.340 I don't know that they're

00:24:48.000 malicious or anything.

00:24:49.180 There's just a lot of

00:24:50.340 misinformation about

00:24:51.660 Catholicism and it's 0.98

00:24:53.780 because people don't learn

00:24:54.880 history and also because

00:24:56.380 history is written by the

00:24:57.320 winners and in the

00:24:58.440 Anglosphere and in much

00:25:00.160 of the West and certainly in

00:25:01.160 the English speaking world

00:25:02.240 the Protestants won.

00:25:03.540 They won in England.

00:25:05.480 The Protestants founded the 0.97

00:25:08.300 United States in most ways

00:25:10.600 and so there's just a lot of

00:25:12.400 misinformation a lot of

00:25:13.760 hagiography and myth and

00:25:15.300 legend about Martin Luther a 0.90

00:25:16.940 lot of all ridiculous false

00:25:19.220 legends about the alleged 0.99

00:25:21.160 misdeeds of the Catholic 0.99

00:25:23.540 Church.

00:25:24.240 So I would I would approach

00:25:25.240 it and just explain to them

00:25:28.020 that you're a Christian and

00:25:29.880 what Christianity is and what

00:25:31.180 the Catholic Church is and I

00:25:33.020 say this with lefties too.

00:25:34.640 You have to treat them like

00:25:35.560 children.

00:25:36.840 Treat them like children.

00:25:37.760 That doesn't mean torture

00:25:39.200 them. 0.91

00:25:39.780 That doesn't mean smack them 0.57

00:25:41.380 in the face.

00:25:41.900 That's not what good parents

00:25:42.780 do.

00:25:43.300 You just treat them like

00:25:44.220 children because they don't

00:25:46.340 know anything. 1.00

00:25:47.100 They're ignorant and they're 1.00

00:25:48.460 not educated so you need to 1.00

00:25:49.760 kind of bring them up and

00:25:51.120 hopefully you can make

00:25:52.140 adults out of them too and

00:25:53.380 then you can and then you

00:25:54.300 can raise a lot of different

00:25:55.260 children.

00:25:55.780 The real ones that you're 0.73

00:25:56.920 adopting and the intellectual

00:25:58.900 children that you're

00:25:59.680 educated.

00:26:00.060 Okay from do I all right I

00:26:02.100 got to sign off.

00:26:02.660 That's fine.

00:26:03.120 I've got to sign off.

00:26:04.500 No I can do one more.

00:26:05.400 Oh you're this is like what

00:26:07.400 a this is because today's

00:26:08.760 all about death and

00:26:09.340 destruction.

00:26:09.840 We can do one more from

00:26:10.760 Jason.

00:26:11.540 Dear store brand Ben.

00:26:17.880 That is the single funniest

00:26:20.820 name that anyone has used in

00:26:22.580 the in the mailbag.

00:26:23.660 I'm like the I'm the Ralph's

00:26:25.660 brand to Ben's Oreos or

00:26:27.580 something.

00:26:29.540 Dear store brand Ben I get

00:26:31.340 what you were saying about

00:26:32.200 God owning people but

00:26:34.300 wouldn't this is saying we

00:26:36.020 don't own our own lives our

00:26:37.200 lives are a gift from God but

00:26:39.240 wouldn't the fact that he

00:26:40.600 gave man free will indicate

00:26:42.260 that he is passing ownership

00:26:43.740 of them to use or misuse

00:26:45.800 themselves.

00:26:47.360 Wouldn't it make more sense to

00:26:49.040 say that a man of faith

00:26:50.000 reinvests the ownership in

00:26:51.540 himself to God by choice

00:26:53.560 whereas those who continue to

00:26:55.000 own themselves are by the

00:26:56.580 very nature of turning away

00:26:57.640 from him proving their own

00:26:59.540 ownership of themselves for

00:27:01.120 good or enormous ill and

00:27:03.120 would you not also grant

00:27:04.900 that from a legal viewpoint

00:27:06.020 men certainly own themselves

00:27:07.340 and the product of their

00:27:08.460 work when considering only

00:27:10.540 worldly forces and doesn't

00:27:12.240 that distinction matter.

00:27:14.120 Best Jason Willis use of my

00:27:16.680 last name encouraged.

00:27:18.100 Okay so I'll use your last

00:27:18.920 name.

00:27:21.020 I see what you're saying.

00:27:23.180 Not quite though.

00:27:24.220 I think the better way

00:27:25.840 obviously all of these

00:27:27.260 analogies are going to be 0.96

00:27:28.220 imperfect.

00:27:28.940 The better way of thinking of

00:27:29.920 your own life is not that you

00:27:31.040 own your own life but that

00:27:32.540 you're leasing it.

00:27:34.040 So you know it's a gift but

00:27:35.660 it's a gift with an

00:27:36.360 expiration date.

00:27:37.560 You won't have it forever.

00:27:39.600 You might have it forever but

00:27:40.780 you won't necessarily have it

00:27:42.140 forever.

00:27:43.060 You are given this a gift of

00:27:44.440 life and we know that we're

00:27:45.820 going to die. 0.95

00:27:46.500 We know that we have an 0.99

00:27:47.120 earthly death and you have

00:27:48.520 choices about what you can do

00:27:49.660 with your life.

00:27:50.280 One of which is to choose

00:27:51.400 eternal life.

00:27:52.100 That's the good news.

00:27:53.620 That's the promise of

00:27:54.220 Christianity.

00:27:55.220 So you have this gift and

00:27:57.340 you're using it.

00:27:58.300 But this is discussed

00:27:59.420 frequently in the Gospels.

00:28:00.940 This is the parable of the

00:28:01.800 hedge fund manager or the

00:28:03.020 parable of the talents as

00:28:03.980 it's commonly called.

00:28:04.860 I call it the parable of the

00:28:05.840 hedge fund manager where the

00:28:07.060 master gives his servants

00:28:08.220 these gifts, these talents to

00:28:10.480 invest and to do something

00:28:11.700 with.

00:28:12.380 And to the servant who does a

00:28:13.800 lot and gets a great return on

00:28:15.060 his investment he gives him

00:28:17.080 even more.

00:28:17.880 Even more will be given to him

00:28:19.180 who has much.

00:28:19.740 And to the servant who just

00:28:21.900 buries it underground and

00:28:23.240 doesn't use it and he's

00:28:24.380 afraid to use the gift that's

00:28:26.320 been given to him.

00:28:27.200 Even that little which he has

00:28:28.520 is taken away and he's cast

00:28:29.700 into hell where there's

00:28:30.680 weeping and gnashing of

00:28:31.560 teeth.

00:28:32.720 Which means that you don't

00:28:33.980 own your life.

00:28:35.160 Your life will be, there will

00:28:38.420 be an accounting for your

00:28:39.500 life and what you've done

00:28:40.420 with it.

00:28:41.320 It isn't yours. 0.59

00:28:42.460 The mistake of the

00:28:43.240 libertarians is they pretend

00:28:44.640 that they own their life.

00:28:45.900 They didn't create their life

00:28:46.940 and they don't get to keep

00:28:47.760 it forever.

00:28:48.920 They'll have to turn it in

00:28:50.080 at some point and they're

00:28:51.200 going to have to either in

00:28:53.440 the bleakest perspective

00:28:55.820 they'll just turn into

00:28:57.140 worm food or in the

00:28:59.000 traditional and Christian

00:29:00.060 perspective there will be

00:29:01.680 an accounting, there will be

00:29:02.600 a judge in the perspective

00:29:03.900 of all of the great

00:29:04.900 religions and virtually all

00:29:07.280 of the great thinkers in

00:29:08.480 history there is an

00:29:09.720 accounting, there is a

00:29:10.740 judgment, there is something

00:29:11.920 that you'll have to answer

00:29:12.720 for.

00:29:13.540 That's how you have to view

00:29:15.380 your life.

00:29:15.900 I think it's not to take

00:29:17.500 away your free will and

00:29:19.160 it's not to take away the

00:29:20.100 grace of God that gave you

00:29:21.140 your life.

00:29:21.960 Heresy hates mystery.

00:29:23.920 Heresy cannot tolerate 0.62

00:29:25.160 mystery so it has to just

00:29:26.860 pick one or the other.

00:29:28.000 It has to pick mercy or 1.00

00:29:29.160 justice.

00:29:29.840 It can't tolerate that God

00:29:31.140 is both fully just and

00:29:32.740 fully merciful.

00:29:33.800 It can't tolerate free will

00:29:35.240 and grace.

00:29:35.760 It has to pick one or the

00:29:36.600 other.

00:29:37.320 The Calvinist tradition

00:29:38.840 chooses grace entirely to

00:29:41.440 the exclusion of free will.

00:29:42.540 The Pelagian tradition

00:29:43.700 chooses free will much to

00:29:45.640 the exclusion of grace but

00:29:47.080 the truth is narrow, right?

00:29:51.640 The truth holds these 0.80

00:29:52.560 things in balance.

00:29:53.720 There must be a balance

00:29:54.680 here and I think you should

00:29:55.800 view your life in a

00:29:56.600 balanced way or else you're

00:29:57.640 going to go mad like the

00:29:59.140 rest of our culture. 0.76

00:30:00.100 Okay, I've got to say

00:31:05.060 This is the Kanye Cup now.

00:31:06.380 It just collects

00:31:07.900 all of the leftist ears

00:31:09.140 that flowed forth

00:31:11.480 and freely

00:31:12.320 when Kanye put on

00:31:13.180 the MAGA hat.

00:31:13.980 So go get the Kanye Cup

00:31:15.000 right now at dailywire.com.

00:31:16.240 We'll be right back

00:31:16.780 with more mailbag.

00:31:27.840 From Patricia,

00:31:29.300 I like your show.

00:31:30.840 Thanks, Patricia.

00:31:31.580 You did well in saying

00:31:33.900 why you do not like

00:31:35.180 the word genocide

00:31:35.940 to explain the murder

00:31:37.240 of so many Christians

00:31:38.320 in Armenia

00:31:39.120 because of the

00:31:41.080 etymology of genocide.

00:31:42.880 So do we need to put

00:31:43.840 a new word into use

00:31:45.220 such as

00:31:46.140 thriskeloside

00:31:47.860 from the Greek

00:31:48.680 or religioside

00:31:50.220 from the Latin

00:31:50.840 for the murder

00:31:51.900 of many people

00:31:52.640 because of their

00:31:53.340 religious belief?

00:31:54.260 As an aside,

00:31:54.960 I feel the word martyr

00:31:55.720 has been corrupted

00:31:56.480 in terminology

00:31:57.180 because of the difference

00:31:58.400 in the idea of a martyr

00:31:59.280 in Christian and Islamic thought

00:32:01.120 and therefore not useful

00:32:01.900 to this purpose.

00:32:02.900 Yeah, that's a good question.

00:32:04.600 This is about

00:32:05.180 the Armenian genocide.

00:32:06.280 I wrote a piece

00:32:06.960 the other day

00:32:07.580 and I talked about it

00:32:08.220 on the show

00:32:08.660 of how the term

00:32:10.640 Armenian genocide

00:32:11.600 really isn't quite right.

00:32:14.600 There was a genocide

00:32:15.800 of Armenians

00:32:16.720 but the thing

00:32:18.260 that we refer to

00:32:18.900 as the Armenian genocide

00:32:19.880 really includes

00:32:21.000 at least three genocides,

00:32:22.760 maybe more.

00:32:23.980 Genocide of Armenians, 0.92

00:32:25.620 Greeks,

00:32:26.120 and Assyrians

00:32:26.940 by the Muslim Ottomans.

00:32:29.040 And the reason

00:32:29.520 that it doesn't make sense

00:32:30.340 is geno.

00:32:31.220 Gen refers to the race

00:32:33.760 or to your genes,

00:32:35.220 to your genetics.

00:32:36.180 It's from the Greek word

00:32:37.280 genos

00:32:37.760 or race

00:32:39.220 or ethnicity

00:32:39.760 or heritage group.

00:32:43.120 And so that actually

00:32:44.280 isn't what it's about.

00:32:45.340 It's easy to use that term

00:32:46.640 because it's much easier

00:32:48.420 to say,

00:32:49.160 okay,

00:32:49.320 this ethnic group

00:32:50.400 wanted to purge

00:32:51.380 this ethnic group

00:32:52.220 because you can't choose

00:32:53.320 your ethnic group.

00:32:54.260 People are just born into it.

00:32:55.320 It's a fact of life.

00:32:56.160 And it's much harder

00:32:57.500 to say

00:32:58.000 this religious

00:32:59.500 caliphate,

00:33:01.100 this religious empire,

00:33:02.580 the Muslim Ottoman Empire

00:33:03.920 slaughtered millions 0.72

00:33:06.200 and millions of Christians 0.96

00:33:07.360 because they were Christian.

00:33:09.260 Because they had an idea

00:33:10.440 called Islam

00:33:11.200 and another group

00:33:12.680 had an idea

00:33:13.140 called Christianity

00:33:13.900 and the idea of Islam 0.99

00:33:15.440 made them kill 0.99

00:33:16.400 the people 0.99

00:33:16.800 with the idea

00:33:17.420 of Christianity.

00:33:18.820 That's much harder

00:33:19.660 to say.

00:33:20.120 That's very Islamophobic.

00:33:22.180 Which is obviously

00:33:23.000 the irrational fear 0.99

00:33:23.780 of getting your head cut off. 0.83

00:33:24.740 The irrational fear 0.99

00:33:25.420 of millions of people

00:33:26.660 being killed

00:33:27.100 during the First World War.

00:33:28.800 So I actually don't think

00:33:31.020 either of those terms

00:33:31.780 are great,

00:33:32.600 the Greek one 0.53

00:33:33.320 or the religio side

00:33:34.360 because I don't like

00:33:35.980 any of that jargon

00:33:37.180 which seems clinical.

00:33:38.440 How do you turn

00:33:39.160 the slaughter

00:33:40.120 of millions of people

00:33:41.220 by one religious group

00:33:43.340 of another religious group,

00:33:44.640 how do you turn that

00:33:45.240 into a clinical thing,

00:33:46.700 into a social science term,

00:33:48.120 this side or that side?

00:33:49.240 I don't think

00:33:49.740 we should use those terms.

00:33:50.740 I think we should not

00:33:51.440 use jargon

00:33:52.080 as much as possible.

00:33:53.300 George Orwell suggested

00:33:54.640 we use good Saxon words.

00:33:57.200 We don't use words

00:33:58.420 that have Latin roots,

00:34:00.540 that have the side

00:34:01.380 and that have,

00:34:01.980 they sound very like

00:34:03.380 you could hear them

00:34:03.820 in a doctor's office.

00:34:04.940 We should use words

00:34:05.940 that have power to them.

00:34:08.240 The bodies in the New Testament

00:34:10.500 when they die,

00:34:11.760 they stinketh. 0.99

00:34:12.900 They stink. 0.98

00:34:13.700 That has power.

00:34:14.920 But if they possess an odor,

00:34:18.320 that's not as evocative.

00:34:19.900 And I think we should refer

00:34:20.700 to the Armenian genocide

00:34:21.640 as the Muslim Ottoman

00:34:23.200 slaughter of millions 0.66

00:34:24.380 of Christians. 0.64

00:34:25.120 I think that makes it clear

00:34:26.420 what that event was.

00:34:28.060 And other terms

00:34:29.700 will just make it blurry.

00:34:32.160 Next question,

00:34:32.580 we still have time

00:34:33.020 for a couple more.

00:34:33.700 Next question from Nick.

00:34:35.320 Mr. Knowles,

00:34:36.140 I just asked Ben

00:34:36.900 this same question

00:34:37.720 and was wondering

00:34:38.360 what your stance was

00:34:39.240 on global warming

00:34:40.040 now called climate change.

00:34:41.500 Climate change

00:34:42.060 is still a hot topic

00:34:42.980 between my friends and I

00:34:43.940 and also among

00:34:44.540 most conservative groups.

00:34:45.700 Thanks, Nick.

00:34:46.760 I'll quote George Orwell,

00:34:48.100 or George Orwell,

00:34:48.880 George Will,

00:34:49.460 both good writers,

00:34:51.300 but I'll quote George Will.

00:34:52.640 Global warming

00:34:53.460 and climate change

00:34:54.600 or whatever,

00:34:55.100 it's just an excuse

00:34:56.080 for socialism

00:34:56.700 by the back door.

00:34:58.020 That's what it is.

00:34:58.860 It's socialism

00:34:59.460 by the back door.

00:35:00.560 We read some statistics

00:35:02.420 yesterday,

00:35:03.460 some predictions

00:35:04.040 from the first Earth Day

00:35:05.640 in 1970

00:35:06.420 predicting that all

00:35:07.560 of the human race

00:35:08.640 would be extinct

00:35:09.240 within 10 or 15 years

00:35:10.420 if we don't pass

00:35:11.700 a lot of socialist laws.

00:35:12.980 And we didn't pass

00:35:13.720 socialist laws

00:35:14.340 and the world's doing

00:35:14.980 just fine,

00:35:15.600 better than ever,

00:35:16.220 some say.

00:35:17.160 And it's an excuse.

00:35:18.980 And by the way,

00:35:20.040 it's a religion.

00:35:20.760 It's a replacement

00:35:21.300 of religion.

00:35:22.720 It has the sale

00:35:23.460 of indulgences even

00:35:24.440 in the form

00:35:24.860 of carbon tax credits.

00:35:26.300 It has sin,

00:35:27.240 which is pollution,

00:35:28.640 and it tries to work

00:35:30.100 through its own redemption.

00:35:31.360 It has a messiah,

00:35:32.400 which is Al Gore.

00:35:33.620 It's a pretty sad messiah,

00:35:35.300 this bloated,

00:35:36.340 former,

00:35:36.880 failed presidential candidate.

00:35:39.080 But it's a replacement religion. 0.63

00:35:41.660 People who have true religion

00:35:42.660 don't worry about those things.

00:35:44.560 St. Francis loved nature,

00:35:46.960 but he wrote about

00:35:47.780 sister nature,

00:35:49.480 sister earth,

00:35:50.940 not mother nature.

00:35:52.500 The people who have 0.84

00:35:53.380 these weird superstitious

00:35:54.620 pagan environmentalist religions

00:35:57.040 talk about mother nature 0.65

00:35:58.300 and they worship the nature.

00:35:59.460 We don't worship nature.

00:36:00.560 We have dominion over nature.

00:36:01.720 It's not,

00:36:02.100 and we talked to Richard Lindson,

00:36:04.100 the atmospheric physicist

00:36:05.460 from MIT.

00:36:06.520 We talked to him on the show

00:36:07.380 a month or two ago

00:36:08.060 and he's a dissenter.

00:36:11.220 He's a denier.

00:36:12.500 He's one of the great climate experts

00:36:13.880 in the entire world.

00:36:14.700 And he says

00:36:16.040 there might be

00:36:17.480 some modest warming.

00:36:18.460 We don't know how much,

00:36:19.200 but if there's modest warming,

00:36:20.480 there's no evidence

00:36:21.420 that it will be catastrophic

00:36:23.260 or even disadvantageous.

00:36:25.180 And we don't know

00:36:26.280 what the cost

00:36:26.860 of controlling for it is.

00:36:28.100 The economic cost

00:36:28.900 could be anywhere

00:36:29.340 from 40 cents

00:36:30.080 to 48 dollars

00:36:30.980 per ton of carbon.

00:36:32.860 That's a pretty wide range.

00:36:34.100 There's no solution

00:36:35.000 to this problem.

00:36:36.240 There's no real prediction

00:36:38.360 of what the problem will cause.

00:36:39.920 And we don't really know

00:36:41.000 how widespread

00:36:41.520 the problem will be.

00:36:42.620 So I don't think

00:36:43.160 we should upend

00:36:43.760 global economies to do it.

00:36:45.280 It's very convenient.

00:36:46.580 It's not an inconvenient truth.

00:36:48.100 It's a convenient narrative

00:36:49.300 to pass socialism

00:36:50.200 and you shouldn't worry about it.

00:36:51.860 There's this idea,

00:36:52.560 they say 97% of scientists,

00:36:54.460 first of all,

00:36:54.880 that survey is total bunk,

00:36:56.120 but also science 0.97

00:36:57.120 isn't made by committee dummies.

00:36:58.800 Science isn't made by democracy.

00:37:00.500 It's the relentless pursuit

00:37:01.900 of truth

00:37:02.360 that occasionally

00:37:03.360 the best and brightest among us

00:37:05.020 can glimpse

00:37:05.720 and say,

00:37:06.320 hey everyone,

00:37:06.800 you're wrong. 0.83

00:37:07.700 The truth is arrogant.

00:37:08.760 It's not democratic.

00:37:09.920 It's aristocratic.

00:37:10.540 Okay,

00:37:11.400 from Thomas.

00:37:12.560 Dearest Pope Knowles,

00:37:13.680 ooh,

00:37:13.860 that's a good promotion.

00:37:14.960 I'm 31 years old

00:37:16.100 and am ready to settle down.

00:37:18.280 Here's the problem.

00:37:18.920 I work 55 to 65 hours a week.

00:37:20.920 I'm in school a few nights a week.

00:37:22.360 There aren't any single ladies 1.00

00:37:23.580 in my age in my church.

00:37:25.440 I won't go to a club,

00:37:26.440 but bars are okay.

00:37:27.640 Should I make time for bars

00:37:29.120 or should I wait for the almighty

00:37:30.440 to drop my future wife 1.00

00:37:31.680 into my busy day?

00:37:32.660 Tom.

00:37:34.480 Listen up,

00:37:35.120 Tom.

00:37:35.820 I'm going to give you

00:37:36.500 some very important advice.

00:37:38.340 You should always make time for bars.

00:37:40.320 You should always,

00:37:41.180 you should, 0.99

00:37:42.080 are you crazy? 0.99

00:37:43.200 I don't,

00:37:44.140 I occasionally make time for work,

00:37:45.760 but I always make time for bars.

00:37:47.380 So yeah,

00:37:47.840 you should go to bars.

00:37:48.680 Also,

00:37:49.100 what you should check out,

00:37:50.340 this is a little bit of a plug

00:37:51.580 because they sponsor the show,

00:37:52.740 but they're a great company,

00:37:53.800 is eHarmony.

00:37:55.140 We did a read for eHarmony yesterday.

00:37:57.300 That's a fabulous service.

00:37:59.260 And if you enter the promo code

00:38:00.460 COVFEFE,

00:38:01.220 C-O-V-F-E-F-E, 1.00

00:38:02.620 you'll get some incentives

00:38:05.040 or free time

00:38:05.940 or something like that.

00:38:06.860 I forget exactly

00:38:07.800 what the promotion is,

00:38:08.580 but it's a very good deal.

00:38:10.420 You should,

00:38:11.120 you should use that

00:38:12.020 because right now

00:38:12.760 all dating happens online.

00:38:14.220 So it's all just apps

00:38:15.180 and it's like swipe,

00:38:15.880 swipe, 0.96

00:38:16.120 swipe, 0.96

00:38:16.440 and it's mostly casual hookups

00:38:18.180 and shallow hookups. 1.00

00:38:19.200 It sounds like you don't want that.

00:38:20.480 It sounds like you want

00:38:21.120 a long-term relationship.

00:38:22.420 And there's really only one

00:38:23.780 version of these apps

00:38:26.100 or websites that does that,

00:38:27.720 that can actually provide that

00:38:28.880 and is focused on it.

00:38:29.800 That's eHarmony.

00:38:30.740 That's a great way to do it.

00:38:32.180 You know,

00:38:32.760 I missed online dating.

00:38:34.740 I've been dating

00:38:35.320 sweet little Elisa

00:38:36.100 since,

00:38:36.780 you know,

00:38:37.220 slightly after I was born,

00:38:38.780 I think.

00:38:39.920 And so,

00:38:41.060 I don't use it,

00:38:43.120 but I know that it's

00:38:43.760 totally pervasive.

00:38:44.960 And if that's the culture,

00:38:45.980 you can't avoid the culture.

00:38:47.200 You just have to use

00:38:47.900 a good version of the culture.

00:38:49.360 So I would try that out

00:38:50.320 and go to bars.

00:38:51.380 Maybe not to pick up chicks.

00:38:52.700 It's just a lot of,

00:38:53.380 it's great.

00:38:53.900 It's a really important thing to do.

00:38:55.340 You can smoke cigars,

00:38:56.180 you can drink,

00:38:56.720 you have some camaraderie.

00:38:58.100 That's,

00:38:58.420 you got to do it,

00:38:59.000 man.

00:38:59.580 From Patrick,

00:39:00.420 I've got time for a couple more.

00:39:01.640 To Michael Knowles

00:39:02.940 of Another Kingdom fame,

00:39:04.480 one thing I keep hearing from others

00:39:06.300 is about the supposed

00:39:07.420 military industrial complex

00:39:10.120 that is in some way

00:39:11.500 responsible for the U.S.'s

00:39:13.020 continued involvement

00:39:14.220 in conflicts around the world.

00:39:16.020 How would you explain it?

00:39:17.340 Is there any proof

00:39:18.120 toward its existence?

00:39:19.160 Any rebuttals?

00:39:19.880 Thank you and love the show.

00:39:21.120 Patrick.

00:39:23.060 This is one where the right

00:39:24.400 gets a little kooky sometimes

00:39:25.900 and they get a little conspiratorial.

00:39:27.920 And by the way,

00:39:28.500 I defend conspiratorial thinking

00:39:30.460 because it means

00:39:31.420 that you're a contrarian

00:39:32.360 and it means that you have

00:39:33.000 an active mind.

00:39:34.200 It doesn't mean that

00:39:34.820 the conspiracies are right.

00:39:36.720 Virtually all the time

00:39:37.500 they're wrong,

00:39:38.080 but at least your mind is working.

00:39:39.320 That's actually a good thing.

00:39:40.520 When lefties say,

00:39:41.400 the right is conspiratorial,

00:39:42.600 you say, good.

00:39:43.160 That means we're using our minds. 1.00

00:39:44.280 You guys are like those pigs 1.00

00:39:45.300 plugged in in the bucket, 1.00

00:39:46.340 you know?

00:39:46.800 You're just like,

00:39:47.420 it's just like synapses moving,

00:39:49.560 but no thoughts are occurring.

00:39:50.920 So anyway,

00:39:51.720 that's on the conspiracies.

00:39:53.380 This is a conspiracy.

00:39:55.160 It comes from Dwight Eisenhower.

00:39:57.860 And what Eisenhower did

00:39:59.380 is when he left the presidency,

00:40:00.920 he said,

00:40:01.300 beware the military industrial complex.

00:40:04.620 And what he was saying

00:40:05.660 is that there's

00:40:06.280 a very cozy relationship

00:40:07.540 between the defense contractors

00:40:09.640 who build all the weapons of war

00:40:11.900 and the U.S. government.

00:40:14.260 And at the extreme of this,

00:40:16.760 they say that we're actually

00:40:18.300 pursuing wars

00:40:19.320 and military conflict

00:40:20.320 to keep buying weapons

00:40:22.620 from the defense contractors.

00:40:24.760 When Dwight Eisenhower

00:40:25.880 was warning about this,

00:40:27.560 a military spending accounted

00:40:28.860 for 10% of the entire economy,

00:40:31.520 10% of GDP in 1961.

00:40:33.860 That number has fallen

00:40:34.920 to about 1%.

00:40:36.460 That number is way down.

00:40:39.360 So it is possible

00:40:41.160 that at the time,

00:40:44.080 there really was

00:40:44.820 a military industrial complex.

00:40:45.920 That really was quite a fear.

00:40:47.260 But right now,

00:40:49.100 I think by 2016,

00:40:51.280 the military spending

00:40:53.180 shrunk to 3.2% of GDP.

00:40:56.700 Now, that's all military spending.

00:40:58.740 But a lot of military spending

00:41:00.460 is just on training

00:41:01.320 and housing

00:41:02.320 and accommodations

00:41:03.640 for the troops.

00:41:04.820 So actually,

00:41:05.540 when you look at just weapons,

00:41:08.080 just at what would be

00:41:08.880 the military industrial complex,

00:41:10.500 the defense contractors,

00:41:11.540 it's only 1%.

00:41:12.260 That's only 1%.

00:41:14.820 The whole federal budget

00:41:16.060 is only 22% of the economy

00:41:18.420 and defense is only 14%

00:41:21.000 of the federal budget.

00:41:22.420 People have this idea

00:41:23.480 that we spend all of our federal budget

00:41:25.200 on military spending.

00:41:26.380 We spend very little of it

00:41:27.460 on the military, actually.

00:41:28.900 We spend most,

00:41:29.520 the majority of it

00:41:30.480 on entitlement programs

00:41:32.160 that are bankrupting the country,

00:41:33.500 on welfare programs

00:41:34.420 and entitlements.

00:41:35.340 14% of the budget

00:41:36.540 on military spending.

00:41:38.960 So 1% on weapons.

00:41:40.080 Do you really think

00:41:41.040 the national policy

00:41:41.880 of the United States

00:41:42.600 would be driven

00:41:43.600 by a few companies

00:41:45.340 because of 1% of GDP?

00:41:47.400 That doesn't seem

00:41:48.160 to make a lot of sense.

00:41:49.380 It seems very inefficient

00:41:50.720 and conspiratorial.

00:41:51.900 So, I don't know.

00:41:52.560 Maybe Ike had a point at the time,

00:41:53.820 but certainly not anymore.

00:41:55.200 From Dave.

00:41:55.920 Hey, Michael.

00:41:56.460 Love the show.

00:41:57.940 Why do you think

00:41:58.980 it is that,

00:41:59.780 it is,

00:42:00.560 that generally speaking,

00:42:01.520 artistic or creative people

00:42:02.640 are firmly on the far left,

00:42:04.140 yet the very same people

00:42:05.360 who pride themselves

00:42:06.960 for outside-the-box thinking

00:42:08.680 and non-conformity

00:42:09.780 couldn't be more

00:42:10.720 inside-of-the-box politically.

00:42:12.440 I asked a lefty artist friend

00:42:13.880 of mine this question recently

00:42:15.180 and was met

00:42:15.880 with a blank stare.

00:42:17.160 So, although your literary reputation

00:42:18.980 precedes you

00:42:19.820 as a master of blankness,

00:42:21.580 I suspect you have

00:42:22.660 a much more insightful answer

00:42:23.920 than did my lefty friend.

00:42:25.400 Thank you

00:42:25.720 and keep up the great work.

00:42:27.280 So, I do notice

00:42:28.780 that broadly speaking

00:42:30.060 for all of history,

00:42:31.060 artists are lefties.

00:42:32.320 There are some examples,

00:42:34.200 like Sophocles,

00:42:34.900 I wouldn't call a lefty,

00:42:36.580 exactly, you know,

00:42:38.420 or, you know,

00:42:39.540 left and right

00:42:40.540 are kind of hard

00:42:41.080 to apply to times

00:42:43.300 outside of our own,

00:42:44.400 but they're kind of

00:42:45.940 crazy spirits,

00:42:46.880 generally speaking.

00:42:47.740 I know this.

00:42:48.400 I have worked as an artist

00:42:49.280 at various points

00:42:50.060 in my life.

00:42:51.120 I, well, hopefully

00:42:52.380 will be doing season two

00:42:53.380 of Another Kingdom shortly.

00:42:55.080 And so,

00:42:56.120 I know this because

00:42:56.920 when you're an actor,

00:42:58.040 you sleep until you're about,

00:42:59.420 until about 2 p.m.

00:43:01.040 and you kind of roll over,

00:43:02.080 maybe you go to a rehearsal

00:43:02.920 or whatever,

00:43:03.480 you go on auditions

00:43:04.260 and, you know,

00:43:05.300 it's high diddle-dee-dee

00:43:06.100 the actor life for me.

00:43:07.560 And so,

00:43:08.060 you don't have a schedule,

00:43:09.040 you don't have responsibility,

00:43:10.420 you don't have accountability.

00:43:12.140 Usually,

00:43:12.640 99% of the time,

00:43:14.040 you're not making much money,

00:43:15.280 if any money at all.

00:43:16.440 And so,

00:43:16.920 you're just really out there, man.

00:43:18.820 You're really irresponsible.

00:43:20.760 And I think that lends itself

00:43:22.080 to a left-wing lifestyle.

00:43:24.060 Whereas,

00:43:24.560 when you get a little bit more

00:43:25.940 accountable

00:43:27.060 and you can see things

00:43:28.520 in perspective

00:43:29.160 and not in the wacky,

00:43:31.220 crazed perspective

00:43:32.780 of a narrow view of art,

00:43:35.300 then things come into line

00:43:37.560 and you stop being

00:43:38.420 so left-wing in your politics.

00:43:39.880 But most actors

00:43:40.600 never get there.

00:43:41.300 It's why they live

00:43:41.960 such insane lives

00:43:43.400 and why they're in

00:43:44.240 perpetual childhood

00:43:45.080 is because they behave

00:43:46.100 like children.

00:43:47.280 We got one or two more.

00:43:49.140 From Joel,

00:43:49.840 I know Shapiro

00:43:50.540 is a proverbial music Nazi,

00:43:52.580 only enjoying classical music

00:43:53.880 and older music.

00:43:54.940 As someone very critical

00:43:55.880 of modern music,

00:43:56.680 what are your thoughts

00:43:57.260 on EDM,

00:43:58.500 electronic dance music?

00:43:59.580 Is there a possibility

00:44:00.680 of creating new genres,

00:44:01.760 instrument sounds,

00:44:03.100 to innovate away

00:44:04.120 from having only one genre

00:44:05.920 considered correct music?

00:44:07.920 This is not to say

00:44:08.640 that EDM or pop

00:44:09.540 should be used in churches.

00:44:10.800 I'm an Orthodox Christian

00:44:12.000 for the record.

00:44:12.720 Yeah, it probably shouldn't

00:44:13.800 be used in churches.

00:44:14.940 Although in LA,

00:44:15.680 a lot of churches do it.

00:44:16.720 They have like strobe lights

00:44:17.860 and all this stuff.

00:44:19.780 Yeah,

00:44:20.400 I'm with Ben

00:44:22.100 in that I like Bach.

00:44:23.860 You know,

00:44:24.180 Bach is basically

00:44:25.360 as good as music gets.

00:44:27.200 It doesn't get a lot better.

00:44:28.440 There's good music before Bach

00:44:30.000 and there's good music

00:44:30.660 after Bach.

00:44:31.740 There is a real perfection there

00:44:33.460 and a real excellence

00:44:35.180 that happened

00:44:35.940 in the 18th century.

00:44:37.600 But it doesn't mean

00:44:38.280 there's not good music.

00:44:40.220 Some very good friends of mine

00:44:41.740 for years

00:44:43.200 are a pretty popular

00:44:44.820 electronic

00:44:45.740 R&B,

00:44:48.180 jazzy kind of band.

00:44:49.420 And I won't say their name

00:44:50.420 so that they keep,

00:44:51.320 you know,

00:44:51.820 having a good career.

00:44:53.060 But they're friends of mine

00:44:54.200 and I think that their music

00:44:55.200 is very good.

00:44:56.300 I like to listen to it sometimes.

00:44:57.560 But it's all about

00:44:58.420 what you're in the mood for.

00:44:59.620 So if you're going to go out

00:45:01.280 to a club,

00:45:01.940 I don't,

00:45:02.360 I'm not going to listen to Bach.

00:45:03.920 But if I'm going to,

00:45:05.360 you know,

00:45:05.500 if I'm sitting around

00:45:06.080 having drinks,

00:45:06.660 I might listen to

00:45:07.500 certain kind of music.

00:45:08.680 And if I'm in the car,

00:45:09.440 I might listen to other kinds

00:45:10.320 of music.

00:45:11.040 But that doesn't mean

00:45:12.620 that they're all equally good

00:45:13.760 or that they're all

00:45:14.640 equally important

00:45:15.480 or excellent.

00:45:17.460 There was an excellence

00:45:18.840 achieved

00:45:19.500 at certain periods of music.

00:45:21.660 And Plato

00:45:22.440 and Alan Bloom

00:45:23.800 write about

00:45:24.580 the dangers of music.

00:45:25.560 Because music puts you

00:45:26.560 into a different mindset.

00:45:27.980 It's really important.

00:45:29.580 This hearing

00:45:30.780 is the most important sense.

00:45:32.380 That's why we,

00:45:33.260 people always hear God.

00:45:35.480 It's not that they see God really.

00:45:37.200 It's not,

00:45:37.480 it's always feel him necessarily.

00:45:39.960 Primarily,

00:45:40.540 it's they hear God.

00:45:41.680 They hear the word of God.

00:45:43.400 They hear the voice of God,

00:45:44.920 right?

00:45:45.340 And it's because

00:45:46.120 hearing so affects

00:45:48.140 how we live

00:45:49.480 and how we work.

00:45:50.200 If you,

00:45:50.840 if you are listening

00:45:51.640 to crazed rap music,

00:45:53.500 you're going to be

00:45:54.020 in a different mindset

00:45:54.720 than if you're listening

00:45:55.620 to certain other kinds of music.

00:45:58.360 Music with rhythm

00:45:59.480 and melody and harmony.

00:46:01.280 So you've,

00:46:01.860 you've got to be careful of that

00:46:03.020 and not pretend

00:46:03.480 that you're getting

00:46:03.900 the same thing

00:46:04.540 out of,

00:46:05.200 out of all of them.

00:46:06.160 Some genres of music

00:46:07.220 are degraded.

00:46:07.940 Some are better

00:46:08.500 for when you're about

00:46:09.220 to go into battle

00:46:09.900 and some are better

00:46:10.520 for when you're trying

00:46:11.100 to fall asleep

00:46:12.360 or do work

00:46:12.900 or something like that.

00:46:13.820 But it is very powerful.

00:46:15.880 It's not just a little joke

00:46:17.040 or a snobbishness 1.00

00:46:17.860 or a minor distinction.

00:46:19.120 Music is,

00:46:19.960 is quite powerful

00:46:21.760 and you've got to,

00:46:22.780 you've got to listen

00:46:23.280 to it carefully.

00:46:24.500 From Dave.

00:46:25.080 Hi, Michael.

00:46:25.940 Like what you do.

00:46:26.640 Keep it up.

00:46:27.140 Question.

00:46:27.480 Where do you see

00:46:27.820 the U.S. 50 years from now?

00:46:29.560 Isolationist superpower

00:46:30.520 or waning

00:46:31.160 in the face of China's 1.00

00:46:32.480 explosion on the world stage?

00:46:35.200 Well,

00:46:35.620 I don't know about

00:46:36.040 50 years from now,

00:46:36.840 500 years from now,

00:46:37.800 it's probably unrecognizable

00:46:39.180 because all things die

00:46:41.620 except for pig brains, 1.00

00:46:42.980 apparently,

00:46:43.440 but all other things die.

00:46:45.780 I will say on this,

00:46:48.060 nobody can predict the future.

00:46:50.140 If you'd asked me this

00:46:51.240 during the presidency

00:46:51.940 of Barack Obama,

00:46:52.660 I'd say we're going

00:46:53.300 to be waning

00:46:53.900 in the face of China, 1.00

00:46:55.940 but we're not doing that now.

00:46:58.140 We're going to survive today

00:46:59.620 and we're going to fight back today

00:47:01.100 and we're going to have

00:47:01.660 an exuberance today

00:47:02.600 and hopefully an ascendance today

00:47:04.340 and tomorrow

00:47:05.220 and the next day.

00:47:06.260 So in the next two years

00:47:07.660 or maybe six years

00:47:09.460 or who knows,

00:47:10.140 I think we'll be all right,

00:47:11.300 but it's all about today.

00:47:13.020 That's all you can focus on.

00:47:14.500 Don't despair.

00:47:15.660 That's what the left

00:47:16.500 tries to do in the polls

00:47:17.660 during elections.

00:47:20.420 They say,

00:47:20.960 oh, the polls are so bad,

00:47:22.320 you're definitely going to lose.

00:47:23.140 Don't show up.

00:47:23.860 No, we can fight back.

00:47:25.460 Today's a day.

00:47:26.200 It's a beautiful day.

00:47:26.880 Go outside and fight for it

00:47:28.380 and we might be able

00:47:29.600 to keep this thing going longer

00:47:30.840 than anybody

00:47:31.980 is giving it credit for.

00:47:33.580 From George,

00:47:34.220 Dear Mr. Knowles,

00:47:35.020 what does it truly mean

00:47:36.100 not to be a bigot?

00:47:38.040 To be truly open-minded,

00:47:39.260 do you have to be open

00:47:40.680 to any idea coming from anyone

00:47:42.300 and consider it logically

00:47:43.680 and rationally

00:47:44.400 or can you take the shortcut

00:47:45.460 and close yourself off

00:47:46.460 to certain ideas

00:47:47.500 when they have not

00:47:48.400 had a decent new fact

00:47:50.220 added to the discussion

00:47:51.140 in a prolonged period of time?

00:47:52.720 Does the shortcut

00:47:53.880 still fit

00:47:54.620 most practical definitions

00:47:55.900 of being a bigot?

00:47:57.500 Well, you're talking about

00:47:58.500 the open mind

00:47:59.200 and the closed mind,

00:48:00.500 you know,

00:48:00.800 and they say,

00:48:01.440 you're a bigot

00:48:02.220 if you close your mind.

00:48:03.940 But Chesterton wrote

00:48:04.780 about this beautifully

00:48:05.520 as he wrote about most things.

00:48:07.260 Chesterton wrote,

00:48:08.200 merely having an open mind

00:48:09.780 is nothing.

00:48:10.940 The object of opening the mind

00:48:12.680 as of opening the mouth

00:48:14.160 is to shut it again

00:48:15.540 on something solid.

00:48:16.940 You need it to be

00:48:17.840 on solid ground.

00:48:19.540 So,

00:48:20.540 I'll use the alt-right guys

00:48:23.080 as an example,

00:48:23.760 guys like Richard Spencer

00:48:24.780 or something.

00:48:25.740 Why is he a bigot?

00:48:26.820 Why are those guys bigots?

00:48:28.660 I have a closed mind

00:48:30.760 on certain things.

00:48:31.980 I'm open to new information

00:48:33.540 if someone can convince me

00:48:34.540 of something else,

00:48:35.380 but I have first principles

00:48:37.140 that I'm fairly confident

00:48:38.240 are true.

00:48:39.380 The difference is

00:48:40.740 your premises.

00:48:41.960 The difference is God.

00:48:44.260 So,

00:48:44.560 what makes them bigots

00:48:46.340 is they have a view

00:48:47.680 of the world

00:48:48.240 that is essentially atheistic.

00:48:50.440 They might call themselves

00:48:51.320 Christians or whatever, 1.00

00:48:52.660 but their view of the world

00:48:53.920 is atheistic.

00:48:55.020 They say,

00:48:55.700 no,

00:48:55.880 there isn't a spiritual

00:48:56.680 equality of people.

00:48:58.340 No,

00:48:59.520 there are,

00:49:00.280 the racial differences

00:49:01.400 are terribly important

00:49:02.600 and we need to treat

00:49:03.380 people differently

00:49:04.040 and have societies

00:49:05.620 organized differently.

00:49:08.380 and my view says

00:49:11.000 that there is God

00:49:12.920 and that in Christ

00:49:13.660 there is neither Jew 1.00

00:49:14.560 nor Greek

00:49:15.140 nor slave nor free,

00:49:16.180 but all are one

00:49:16.640 in Christ Jesus.

00:49:17.860 That's why I'm not a bigot.

00:49:19.120 It's not that my mind

00:49:19.900 is so open.

00:49:20.620 I'm pretty convinced

00:49:21.320 that that's the bedrock,

00:49:23.900 but it's a good idea.

00:49:25.980 It's an idea

00:49:26.440 that is not bigoted.

00:49:28.660 And there are bigoted premises.

00:49:30.360 There are not bigoted premises.

00:49:32.060 Drew has a great point

00:49:34.020 on bigotry,

00:49:34.660 which is that

00:49:35.100 the bigotry is always

00:49:36.540 because you're looking

00:49:37.020 at someone else

00:49:37.540 and not at you.

00:49:38.300 So you can see the flaws

00:49:39.100 in someone else,

00:49:39.800 but you don't see

00:49:40.180 the flaws in you.

00:49:41.460 So I can,

00:49:42.060 there are a lot of groups

00:49:42.720 that I can point out

00:49:43.340 the flaws of,

00:49:44.520 but you've also got to be aware

00:49:46.420 that you yourself have flaws.

00:49:48.720 And so that's what I think.

00:49:50.760 I think bigots have bigoted premises

00:49:52.600 and those bigoted premises

00:49:54.100 are just,

00:49:54.780 they're just not true.

00:49:55.820 Premises that say,

00:49:56.980 they're these kooky ideas

00:49:58.100 that some race of people

00:50:00.440 is metaphysically better

00:50:02.900 or even physically

00:50:04.340 much better than this.

00:50:05.620 They have very confused

00:50:07.500 and superstitious ideas.

00:50:09.600 And so the non-bigoted point of view

00:50:12.220 is on solid religious foundation.

00:50:14.440 Everything else comes from that.

00:50:15.640 All right.

00:50:16.100 It's too bad.

00:50:17.060 There was another great question,

00:50:18.200 but we can't get to it.

00:50:19.620 We'll get to it next week.

00:50:20.980 That is our show.

00:50:22.000 I will see you on Monday.
