00:03:09.240 Now we are told there were a thousand victims.

00:03:16.040 Pretty big delta, wouldn't you say? A dozen? Okay. You might just be a weird pervert with a dozen.

00:03:22.400 A thousand victims? So this journalist, Ken Klippenstein, writes to the FBI, says,

00:03:27.180 hey, do you have any comment on this? And the FBI responds, thank you for reaching out. The FBI

00:03:32.980 declines to comment. So that's it. That's it. We're not going to hear much more. A thousand victims.

00:27:17.180 time. This is an existential problem. We are not having enough people to replace ourselves,

00:27:21.280 which means in the long run, we go extinct. And in the short run, our social services collapse,

00:27:30.880 But in the long run, we just don't have enough people. We die out. That's an existential problem.

00:27:38.020 There are ways to fix that, like encouraging marriage and discouraging contraception and all the 1.00

00:27:42.220 rest. But if we just didn't kill a third of our babies, we'd be good. We'd be good. The birth rate

00:27:49.960 would recover. But we can't do that. And so why can't we do that? That's the other issue. People see

00:27:57.580 that we face an existential problem, and so that inclines us more towards scapegoating. You know,

00:28:02.020 we've talked about scapegoating on the show in a real technical sense. I've talked about the

00:28:06.200 philosopher René Girard, a great writer and philosopher who died only relatively recently in

00:28:12.300 history. He's a favorite of thinkers on the right. And Girard has this great theory of mimetic desire,

00:28:19.860 that we imitate each other, we imitate each other's desires, and this leads to ever-increasing

00:28:24.040 competition until there's a war of all against all, until we scapegoat. Scapegoating, which is a

00:28:28.720 biblical principle, it's an ancient principle, which is that you push the sins of the community 0.98

00:28:33.520 onto a goat, and you basically send it out to be punished for our sins. And the archetypal scapegoat

00:28:42.260 is the goat, and the Jews, I guess, in the Bible. It's the Jews, and then the perfect scapegoat is 0.99

00:28:52.600 Christ, the fulfillment. You have the figure, and then you have the fulfillment, and that would be

00:28:58.560 Christ, who takes all of our sins upon us and conquers death. But we have all sorts of scapegoats.

00:38:09.100 But first of all, just a little point that you said, religious reasons, real reasons,

00:38:13.240 but you would surely agree. Religious reasons are real reasons. Now that said,

00:38:16.980 unless you're an Orthodox Jew, there's no religious reason to circumcise.

00:40:53.160 me to sing Ave Maria. It's a beautiful song and really fun to sing, but I am a Protestant, as I

00:41:00.000 said. So I have a couple of sort of hesitations about it. My father's a Presbyterian pastor. He's

00:41:08.520 sort of filled me in on the Protestant point of view, and I would love to get the Catholic point of

00:41:12.400 you. You know, from your perspective, what does it mean to sing the Ave Maria? And as a Protestant,

00:41:18.000 is that something that's appropriate for a Protestant to sing? And, and just kind of get

00:41:22.140 your take on it. So let me know what you think. Thanks. Sure. Yeah, I see the problem. That's a

00:41:26.420 good question. So Ave Maria, the Hail Mary is one of the most popular prayers in all of Christianity.

00:41:32.940 After the Our Father, it's probably the single most popular prayer. It's been around for,

00:41:36.920 in its current form for over a thousand years or thereabouts. And so the first part, you have no

00:41:43.200 problem. Ave Maria, Ave Maria, gratia plena dominus tecum benedictitum mulieribus benedictus

00:41:49.740 fructus ventris tui Jesus. That's all scriptural. Comes from the Gospel of Luke. Hail Mary, full of grace,

00:41:58.020 the Lord is with thee. You know, it's from the archangel. Blessed are you among women. And from

00:42:04.440 Elizabeth, her cousin Elizabeth, blessed are you among women. Blessed is the fruit of your womb,

00:42:08.000 Jesus. So you're, that, that part you don't have a problem with. It's the second part that you have

00:42:12.920 a problem with, which is Holy Mary, Mother of God. That part you should have no problem with.

00:42:17.760 Mary as the Mother of God has been affirmed definitively since the Council of Ephesus and

00:42:22.080 fourth, what was it, 431 or something like that. So I don't think you have a problem with that.

00:42:27.420 You're not denying the divinity of Christ. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the

00:42:33.860 hour of our death. That's the part that might give you trouble if you don't believe in praying to the

00:42:39.200 saints. Now, plenty of Protestants do believe in praying to the saints. I certainly believe in

00:42:43.960 praying to the saints. I think praying to the saints is biblical. I think you see it in the book

00:42:47.780 of the Apocalypse. And it's obviously a Christian tradition that has gone on for 2,000 years. And

00:42:54.300 so I think it's fine. Lutherans say the Hail Mary. Anglicans say the Hail Mary.

00:43:00.620 But you're saying you're Presbyterian. So that might give you pause. I would encourage you to do

00:43:06.900 it because I think it's a wonderful prayer and it's good to honor the Mother of God and praying

00:43:11.940 to the saints is scriptural and part of the Christian tradition. But if you disagree with that,

00:43:19.920 I see there is a problem there because you are, the second part of the Hail Mary is asking the Mother 0.54

00:43:26.020 of God to pray for us. Now, just to assuage your issues, you would ask Bob down the street to pray

00:43:33.040 for you. You'd say, Bob, Shelly's in the hospital. Could you pray for her? So all the more so you

00:43:38.020 should ask the Mother of God. You say, well, Bob's alive and Mother of God is dead. Mother of God is

00:43:42.520 not dead. Our God is the God of the living. Those who are in heaven, we know are living. We can have

00:43:50.100 greater confidence that the people who are enjoying God in heaven are living than we have confidence

00:43:55.640 that the people we see around us are living. And if anyone's in heaven, if any created being is in

00:44:00.160 heaven, I think it's going to be the Mother of God. Wouldn't you say? Blessed are you among women 0.79

00:44:04.860 and blessed is the fruit of you. All generations will call you blessed. We know she's in heaven.

00:44:08.900 We know she's alive. There's nothing wrong with praying to people who are alive and there's nothing

00:44:12.480 wrong with praying to the saints. That's my argument for you to do it. But if you oppose those things
