00:00:35.700 Good Ranchers, American meat delivered.
00:00:37.580 In an interview over the weekend, former New York City mayor and President Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani suggested to NBC's Chuck Todd that truth isn't truth.
00:00:47.440 Now, the left, which increasingly denies the existence of objective truth, is clutching their pearls.
00:00:52.540 They're shocked.
00:00:53.100 They're horrified.
00:00:53.640 But we will explain what Mayor Giuliani meant and what truth means to Democrat politicians and operatives.
00:01:00.020 Spoiler alert, it doesn't mean the truth.
00:01:02.800 Then, a White House aide is fired for being a white nationalist, even though there's no evidence that he's a white nationalist.
00:01:07.880 Drooling Joe Kennedy defends an illegal alien who is wanted for murder in Mexico.
00:01:12.560 Sounds about right.
00:01:13.460 It sounds in keeping with the Kennedys.
00:01:14.720 Suspected Weeble, Brian Stelter, eggs on Jack Dorsey to jack up censorship on Twitter.
00:01:20.440 And the best photo on the internet will be presented on This Is America.
00:01:24.980 Finally, important life advice on a new segment that I like to call, How to Be a Man When You Look Like a Mad Owl.
00:01:30.480 I'm Michael Knowles and this is The Michael Knowles Show.
00:01:32.520 We've got too much to get to today.
00:01:41.480 Way too much to get to.
00:01:42.820 So before we do any of that, look, if you're watching or listening to this show, the chances are you watch some pretty weird stuff on the internet, huh?
00:01:49.400 You watch some things that probably you wouldn't want to get out.
00:01:52.000 That's why I've got to thank ExpressVPN.
00:01:54.160 Because you've got to protect your data and your information on the internet.
00:01:58.480 All of the recent news about these big tech companies selling your data, they're testifying before Congress.
00:02:03.880 Right now, if you just make an online purchase or simply access your email, you could put all of your private information at risk.
00:02:11.460 And these days with our insane political climate, I'm only half joking when I say your political information on the internet could really mess up your life or your reputation or your job or whatever.
00:02:20.980 You're being tracked online by social media sites, marketing companies, and your mobile or internet provider.
00:02:26.420 They don't have your best interests at heart, which is why you need to take back your privacy with ExpressVPN.
00:02:31.820 It has easy-to-use apps that run seamlessly in the background of any computer, phone, or tablet.
00:02:35.500 Turning it on takes one click.
00:02:36.920 It secures and anonymizes your internet browsing by encrypting your data and hiding your IP address.
00:02:41.700 You can protect yourself for less than $7 a month.
00:02:44.060 I am telling you, don't be a cheap idiot.
00:02:47.280 $7 a month is like nothing.
00:02:49.380 And the value is so great.
00:02:52.360 You should not be browsing the internet without protecting your data.
00:02:55.440 Do it with ExpressVPN.
00:02:56.500 It works wonderfully, very well, $7 a month.
00:03:00.100 By the way, don't say I never did nothing for you.
00:03:01.700 Get three months free at expressvpn.com slash Michael, M-I-C-H-A-E-L, E-X-P-R-E-S-S-V-P-N.com slash Michael, M-I-C-H-A-E-L.
00:03:10.600 Three months free with a one-year package.
00:03:13.240 Expressvpn.com slash Michael to learn more.
00:03:15.920 Let's get right into it.
00:03:17.040 I want to talk about truth being truth because conservatives are getting this wrong.
00:03:21.820 The left is especially getting this wrong.
00:03:24.900 What is truth?
00:03:26.540 Is truth, truth?
00:03:27.480 Mayor Giuliani, take it away.
00:03:29.300 You believe this is on them, that you would have, that you guys have not delayed the interviewing, delayed the negotiations.
00:03:36.760 Yes, each time by three or four days so we could write a letter in response.
00:03:40.820 They have taken two to three weeks to get back to us.
00:03:43.740 So what I have to tell you is, look, I'm not going to be rushed into having him testify so that he gets trapped into perjury.
00:03:50.520 And when you tell me that, you know, he should testify because he's going to tell the truth and he shouldn't worry.
00:03:55.440 Well, that's so silly because it's somebody's version of the truth, not the truth.
00:03:59.100 He didn't have a conversation.
00:04:01.880 Truth is truth.
00:04:02.500 I don't mean to go like.
00:04:03.760 No, it isn't truth.
00:04:04.860 Truth isn't truth.
00:04:05.920 The president of the United States says I didn't.
00:04:08.740 Truth isn't truth.
00:04:09.780 Mr. Mayor, do you realize what I.
00:04:12.260 No, no, no.
00:04:13.240 This is going to become a bad meme.
00:04:14.700 Don't do this to me.
00:04:16.420 Don't do truth is a truth to me.
00:04:18.320 Donald Trump says I didn't talk about Flynn with Comey.
00:04:22.480 Comey says you did talk about it.
00:04:24.740 So tell me what the truth is.
00:04:26.020 Don McGahn might not.
00:04:26.680 If you're such a genius, Don McGahn doesn't know.
00:04:30.800 If that's the situation, we have two pieces of evidence.
00:04:34.060 Trump says I didn't tell him.
00:04:35.580 And the other guy says that he did say it, which is the truth.
00:04:39.720 This isn't even that inarticulate.
00:04:42.040 I know that they're trying to play it that way.
00:04:43.840 Like, oh, crazy Giuliani.
00:04:45.420 There he goes again.
00:04:46.560 This isn't even that inarticulate.
00:04:48.240 Certainly the phrase truth isn't truth taken out of context is absurd.
00:04:52.680 It sounds like Pontius Pilate talking to Christ, but that's why we need context.
00:04:57.000 What Rudy Giuliani is reacting to is Chuck Todd saying, oh, that's the truth.
00:05:01.220 It's the truth.
00:05:01.780 It's the truth.
00:05:02.460 And what Rudy Giuliani is saying, no, man, you guys are spinning the truth.
00:05:06.900 You and the Democrats and the forces that are trying to attack President Trump.
00:05:12.020 There are two narratives here.
00:05:15.400 And the question that Rudy Giuliani is asking is, who is Mueller going to believe?
00:05:19.460 His pal James Comey or President Trump?
00:05:21.920 Where is the truth?
00:05:22.980 Who's going to get hit with the truth?
00:05:24.220 How are people going to bend the truth?
00:05:25.840 How are the mainstream media going to bend the truth?
00:05:27.720 That's what's happening.
00:05:28.840 They're trying to turn Rudy Giuliani into Pontius Pilate or some Orwellian figure.
00:05:33.460 This is absurd.
00:05:34.180 Here's how you know this is absurd.
00:05:35.440 Because the left denies objective truth.
00:05:38.500 The left denies it these days.
00:05:40.220 This is why the Daily Wire exists is because we say that facts don't care about your feelings.
00:05:45.340 Because the left says there's no such thing as objectivity.
00:05:47.700 You had those teachers in Massachusetts just a couple of weeks ago.
00:05:50.840 They said we're going to, objectivity is a dangerous weapon against social justice.
00:05:56.460 There is no objective truth.
00:05:57.760 It's all subjective.
00:05:59.020 It's all about feelings.
00:06:00.180 The right is the group that says politics has to rely on objective facts and objective reality.
00:06:05.840 And the left says, no, that's from your point of view.
00:06:08.500 That's your white privilege.
00:06:09.920 That's your invalidating our experiences.
00:06:12.220 No, it's just interest groups butting up against one another.
00:06:15.180 That is absurd.
00:06:16.020 And what Rudy Giuliani is doing is calling attention to that absurdity and that abuse of truth.
00:06:22.000 This isn't, I mean, they got him, right?
00:06:24.060 This is an example of Chuck Todd having that gotcha moment and that's the headline that is becoming a meme just like Chuck Todd says.
00:06:31.240 But the point that Rudy Giuliani is making is actually the opposite of that and it's very important.
00:06:36.260 That's an important point for him to be making because in this case, the left is not interested in the truth.
00:06:42.660 Chuck Todd says, well, when it comes to the Mueller investigation, it's just the truth, right?
00:06:46.800 It's just the truth.
00:06:47.480 Okay, if you're interested in the truth, lefties, Mueller investigation, resistance, impeachment squad, if you're interested in the truth, how come we haven't looked at that Clinton email server?
00:06:58.080 Why did Hillary Clinton wipe her entire email server?
00:07:00.520 How come we haven't looked at that DNC server?
00:07:02.780 How come Paul Manafort is indicted but Tony Podesta isn't indicted?
00:07:06.500 How come the only trial that's come out of this investigation is against Paul Manafort for alleged crimes he committed long before the Trump campaign and crimes which basically amount to buying nice suits?
00:07:16.660 How come the 2016 election isn't being brought up in the trial of Paul Manafort?
00:07:21.160 How come Donald Trump isn't being brought up?
00:07:23.000 How come Russian interference in the election isn't being brought up?
00:07:25.560 If you're so interested in truth, where are the investigations of the Democrats?
00:07:29.640 Where's Tony Podesta who worked with Paul Manafort?
00:07:32.460 But Tony Podesta, he's a big Democrat.
00:07:34.100 He's a big Democrat operative, so he doesn't get pulled in.
00:07:36.460 Hillary Clinton, she gets off the hook.
00:07:37.780 Hillary Clinton destroyed federal records, mishandled federal records, clearly engaged in pay-to-play, though I suppose we'll never have the proof for certain.
00:07:46.940 Because she wiped her email server.
00:07:49.080 Where are the investigations there?
00:07:50.220 It's just the truth, right?
00:07:51.140 Isn't it just the truth?
00:07:52.160 No.
00:07:52.560 The Democrats and the left here are not interested in the truth.
00:07:56.820 They're interested in taking down Donald Trump, which is a great point that Rudy Giuliani is making.
00:08:03.140 He's saying, no, no, no.
00:08:03.900 The thing that you're calling the truth here, that's not the truth, which is why we have to be careful.
00:08:08.360 What Chuck Todd is trying to do is lure the Trump legal defense, lure Giuliani, lure the president into playing a game on an honest playing field when they are playing dishonestly.
00:08:20.400 They're saying, no, no, we're just going to, we'll treat you fairly.
00:08:22.960 No, we'll treat you fairly.
00:08:24.020 Well, we've treated you fairly so far, haven't we?
00:08:26.640 There's no evidence of that.
00:08:27.480 It's been horrifically unfair.
00:08:28.640 It's gone on and on and on.
00:08:29.720 It's extended well beyond its purview, well beyond its legitimate right to investigate, and we see no end in sight.
00:08:37.600 Why would we play fairly?
00:08:38.800 That's what he's talking about.
00:08:39.880 And there are examples of this all over the place.
00:08:43.100 The mainstream media are so complicit in this that we cannot, when they say, oh, it's just the truth, we should always be extraordinarily skeptical and not buy it for a second.
00:08:53.180 Consider this story over the weekend of this illegal alien, Joel Arona Laura.
00:08:57.580 So, Joel Arona Laura, there was a big headline, every mainstream media source covered this.
00:09:06.280 Immigrations Enforcement, ICE, arrested a man, an immigrant or a man, while he was driving his pregnant wife to the hospital.
00:09:16.500 Those monsters, they probably targeted him because his wife was pregnant.
00:09:21.660 That's probably the implication of these articles, isn't it?
00:09:23.740 That every headline, I mean, everywhere was New York Times, USA Today, Washington Post, everyone writing about how ICE targets man, arrests man, while he was driving his poor pregnant wife to the hospital.
00:09:38.000 Okay, that's the headline.
00:09:39.860 They don't, by the way, they usually fail to mention that he's an illegal alien.
00:09:42.920 He's not an undocumented immigrant.
00:09:44.340 He's not a future American.
00:09:45.920 He's not a dreaming, dreamer, sleepwalker.
00:09:48.520 I don't know, I guess they're sleepwalkers.
00:09:49.740 No, he's an illegal alien who clearly committed a crime, but that's not the best part.
00:09:53.540 The best part is, he's wanted for murder in Mexico.
00:09:57.640 They don't, they've, they've left that part out of it, didn't they?
00:10:00.040 They left that part out of their reporting.
00:10:01.640 So, this guy, Joel Arona Laura, was, according to ICE, targeted and arrested because he's wanted for murder in Mexico.
00:10:11.840 Here's Joe Kennedy, Joe Kennedy III, he tweeted about this.
00:10:15.600 He said, there's heartless, and then there's whatever the hell this is.
00:10:20.220 It's heartless, right?
00:10:21.240 So, you have the media put out the ostensibly true headline, man arrested driving wife to hospital.
00:10:29.360 That is sort of true, but it's actually a lie because it leaves out the most important information, which is that he was wanted for murder in Mexico, and that he's an illegal alien who broke our laws.
00:10:39.800 So, the statement on its own, out of context, that statement is true.
00:10:44.200 In context, it's an utter lie.
00:10:46.680 So, the mainstream media put that headline out there, and then the Democrat politician tweets it and says, this is awful, and uses it as campaign fodder.
00:10:53.900 And this is the cycle that they use because they're working together, because the mainstream media are the communications wing of the Democratic Party.
00:11:00.600 If you don't remember, by the way, Joe Kennedy, and he's sort of a minor figure in politics, he was the guy who gave the response to the State of the Union address last year.
00:11:08.080 Here is Joe Kennedy, just to jog your memory from that speech.
00:11:12.320 Historia.
00:11:13.540 Vamos a luchar.
00:11:16.060 Vamos a luchar por ustedes.
00:11:19.220 Y no, nos vamos a alejar.
00:11:22.060 Vamos a alejar.
00:11:24.040 Vamos, vamos, vamos.
00:11:27.180 Not the best Spanish accent, not the best command of the language, but total pandering, right?
00:11:33.360 Total pandering to the left.
00:11:35.320 And they don't tell you that.
00:11:36.800 They don't tell you that the guy was wanted for murder, according to ICE.
00:11:40.540 The wife denies the charges.
00:11:42.200 This is another headline that's going on.
00:11:43.560 The wife denies the charges that this man is wanted for murder in Mexico.
00:11:47.840 She denied the charges, by the way, in Spanish.
00:11:49.980 This was noted in a couple of the reports.
00:11:51.620 CBS News talked to her, and they said the woman in Spanish denied that her husband is a murderer.
00:11:56.180 And this is good advice to illegal aliens.
00:11:58.800 If illegal aliens want to avoid being arrested or deported or targeted for crimes that they committed in Mexico, learn English.
00:12:07.760 Learning English helps.
00:12:08.680 This is a good thing.
00:12:09.700 There's nothing racist about that.
00:12:11.020 There's nothing bigoted about that.
00:12:12.740 When you go to a country, you should know the language of that country, and you should make an effort to learn that language when you get there.
00:12:19.220 Because consider the flip side of this.
00:12:21.540 Consider how many illegal aliens there are in this country.
00:12:24.000 I don't know if this man's wife is also an illegal alien.
00:12:26.660 But consider all of the illegal aliens in this country who flout their illegality, who flout their crime, and are not arrested for it.
00:12:34.160 I was at an event in Orange County.
00:12:36.700 I went to see Ann Coulter down there, and there was a big protest by illegal aliens.
00:12:41.100 And they had big shirts.
00:12:41.880 They said, I'm an illegal alien.
00:12:43.100 They didn't use that.
00:12:43.720 They said, I'm an undocumented future, whatever, whatever.
00:12:45.580 And there were cops around there, and they didn't get arrested.
00:12:49.300 Consider that.
00:12:50.140 Because, you know, the mainstream media and the Democrats are trying to paint this image that America is this heartless country ripping fathers away from their pregnant wives and yada, yada, yada.
00:13:00.860 People regularly go on camera.
00:13:03.480 They say, I am here illegally.
00:13:04.940 I am committing a crime.
00:13:06.240 I am using taxpayer resources.
00:13:08.320 Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
00:13:09.520 Poking American citizens in the face.
00:13:11.800 And nothing happens to them.
00:13:12.900 We are so lax when it comes to our enforcement.
00:13:15.720 We are so generous.
00:13:17.000 We are so charitable.
00:13:19.000 It's only these egregious cases, really, where ICE acts.
00:13:22.740 You know, you've got a man wanted for murder, and they act.
00:13:26.540 And Democrats wring their hands and try to portray law enforcement as the bad guys.
00:13:30.640 Try to portray American citizens as the bad guys.
00:13:32.960 I hope they keep it up, because this is a losing issue, including among Democrats.
00:13:36.340 All of the polling shows that.
00:13:37.840 This is a losing issue, certainly among Republicans, Independents, and the majority of Democrats.
00:13:41.380 So keep it up, guys.
00:13:42.880 But that is just, you've got to pay attention to these things, which are in very narrow, out-of-context situations, true.
00:13:50.900 But they reveal major lies of the left and the mainstream media.
00:13:53.800 Another one is the censorship issue.
00:13:56.000 So we've been talking about this now for weeks.
00:13:58.740 Big tech is censoring conservatives.
00:14:01.160 They start out censoring the conspiracy theorist, shirtless vitamin salesman.
00:14:04.700 Then they move on to people who appear on Fox News.
00:14:07.580 Then they move on to who's next.
00:14:09.680 Who is next?
00:14:11.140 They tell us that they're not censoring.
00:14:13.760 Jack Dorsey, the head of Twitter, says we're not censoring people based on their content.
00:14:18.720 Here he is sitting down with suspected weeble, Ryan Stelter.
00:14:22.040 Are we doing something according to political ideology or viewpoints?
00:14:27.100 And we are not, period.
00:14:28.780 We do not look at content with regards to political viewpoint or ideology.
00:14:35.280 We look at behavior.
00:14:37.040 And we use that behavior as a signal to add to relevance.
00:14:43.440 We need to constantly show that we are not adding our own bias, which I fully admit is more left-leaning.
00:14:50.760 And I think it's important to articulate our bias and to share it with people so that people understand us.
00:15:01.800 But we need to remove all bias from how we act and our policies and our enforcement.
00:15:08.160 People have these assumptions that you're out to get them or something.
00:15:13.040 You know, I feel bad comparing Ryan Stelter to weebles wobble, but they don't fall down.
00:15:18.960 That isn't, that's not a nice thing to do.
00:15:21.160 I really mean that.
00:15:22.300 I'm sorry to do that.
00:15:23.360 But he gets me so frustrated because there is Brian Stelter pretending, sanctimonious, high-minded Brian Stelter.
00:15:31.220 And he is begging Jack Dorsey to censor conservatives.
00:15:36.680 And he's denying what is right before all of our lying eyes.
00:15:40.080 He's there, he's sitting there, he goes, you know, people think that you're out to get them.
00:15:43.200 Can you imagine that?
00:15:44.060 Go on, Jack.
00:15:44.780 Come on.
00:15:45.220 Why would they think that?
00:15:46.200 Those rubes, those idiots.
00:15:48.140 There's another clip of Brian Stelter later on.
00:15:51.680 They're talking about the Alex Jones banning.
00:15:54.040 And he says, well, you know, this and that and this and that.
00:15:55.900 He goes, yeah, but Jones won't change his behavior, will he?
00:15:58.240 He's not going to change his behavior.
00:15:59.680 Hmm?
00:16:00.220 Huh?
00:16:00.560 The implication being you should ban him.
00:16:02.520 You should ban all of these people that I disagree with or whatever.
00:16:07.040 And Jack, listen to what Jack said.
00:16:09.020 It's pretty telling.
00:16:10.280 He says, we don't look at content.
00:16:12.900 We don't look at the political content of somebody.
00:16:15.460 We look at behavior.
00:16:18.600 Yeah.
00:16:19.500 The only behavior you can have on Twitter is content.
00:16:23.560 Content is behavior on Twitter, right?
00:16:25.740 You can just post things.
00:16:27.760 That's it.
00:16:28.280 Post or like things on Twitter.
00:16:30.440 What you post is the content.
00:16:32.320 So he's saying, no, we don't look at content.
00:16:34.060 We just look at content.
00:16:35.420 We don't look at content.
00:16:36.480 We just look.
00:16:37.260 And actually, he's sort of right.
00:16:39.200 They don't really look at content.
00:16:40.460 They look at people.
00:16:41.480 They look at the content broadly produced by people, which is why he defended Alex Jones.
00:16:47.060 He said, we're not going to ban Alex Jones.
00:16:49.020 He hasn't violated our terms of service.
00:16:50.560 Then for a few days, he got a ton of pressure from the left.
00:16:53.000 What did he do?
00:16:53.520 He suspended Alex Jones.
00:16:55.740 What about Gavin McGinnis?
00:16:57.080 What rule did Gavin McGinnis break?
00:16:59.020 He just doesn't.
00:16:59.540 They just don't like him.
00:17:01.440 So even if it were true, we don't look at content.
00:17:04.620 That might be true.
00:17:05.500 What's worse is that they look at people.
00:17:08.240 They just look and they say, yeah, you're a conservative or in the case of Alex Jones,
00:17:13.040 you're a vitamin salesman.
00:17:14.100 We don't like you.
00:17:14.780 We're going to get rid of you.
00:17:15.720 That's what they do.
00:17:17.000 There are these very narrow truths that tell giant lies.
00:17:22.280 This brings us to this White House speech writer.
00:17:24.600 You might have seen this over the weekend.
00:17:26.160 A White House speech writer and policy aide, Darren Beatty, or Beatty, was fired.
00:17:31.740 The reason he was fired is that he gave a speech at the Mencken Club conference in 2016.
00:17:37.900 And the media are reporting this as a white nationalist conference.
00:17:41.560 And he's a white nationalist.
00:17:42.840 And he's a racist.
00:17:43.640 And they've got to get rid of him.
00:17:44.640 And Beatty, by the way, has said, you can read my speech.
00:17:49.540 My speech doesn't have any racism in it at all.
00:17:51.660 I stand by my words there.
00:17:52.940 I'm not a racist.
00:17:53.640 You have no evidence that I'm a racist.
00:17:55.080 And I'm not going to quit.
00:17:56.660 The pressure was too great.
00:17:57.740 And the White House just fired him.
00:17:59.120 I would like to correct the record on this, though, a little bit.
00:18:01.800 Because I listened and read a lot of the Mencken Club writings and speeches when I was writing a piece a couple years ago on the alternative right.
00:18:10.140 So I do know a little bit about the Mencken Club.
00:18:12.440 It's named after H.L. Mencken, the satirist, pretty good writer, slightly racist fellow, a little bit of a bigot.
00:18:21.000 But it isn't a white nationalist conference.
00:18:23.560 You couldn't really call it that.
00:18:25.300 The founder of it is a Jewish guy who attended Yeshiva University.
00:18:29.420 So it's not quite a white nationalist conference, though they do hold hands with those guys.
00:18:35.200 Richard Spencer has gone to this conference.
00:18:36.800 I think one year, or more than one year, he was the master of ceremonies.
00:18:42.380 They also deal with people at these conferences who have sort of just gone a little too far.
00:18:49.040 They've gone a little unsavory.
00:18:50.880 Bill Buckley kicked them out of the National Review or something.
00:18:53.860 People like Peter Brimelow or like John Derbyshire.
00:18:57.360 People who have made off-color remarks or outright racist remarks.
00:19:01.340 And so they've been sidelined a bit.
00:19:03.200 They do go to this thing.
00:19:04.660 You also have people who haven't done that who are there.
00:19:08.220 So it's a little bit murky.
00:19:09.220 But to call it a white nationalist conference just isn't true.
00:19:12.020 I think really the unifying characteristic of all of them is there are these extraordinarily contrarian, paleo-conservative types.
00:19:19.820 They're just ornery, angry, mostly white guys.
00:19:23.540 And Derbyshire, who spoke there, who used to write for National Review, he's a mathematician, wrote a pretty racist piece on Taki's magazine.
00:19:34.160 But what unites them is their disdain for the conservative movement.
00:19:39.020 So Derbyshire complained in a speech.
00:19:40.920 He said that the conservative movement just became about tax cuts and fretting over fetuses.
00:19:47.000 So you see this kind of very angry, dismissive aspect to the Mencken Club.
00:19:53.040 Not terribly religious.
00:19:55.260 Very old, old right.
00:19:57.860 But again, I'm trying to be as fair as I can to them.
00:20:02.220 They do let in people like Richard Spencer.
00:20:04.520 So there is that aspect to it.
00:20:05.940 But to call it a white nationalist conference is not totally fair.
00:20:09.480 That said, if I were this guy, Darren Beatty, would I speak there?
00:20:12.960 No.
00:20:13.920 I wouldn't speak there knowing what the Mencken Club is.
00:20:17.060 And now also, that said, look, even I, and I broadcast from the broom closet of the Ben Shapiro show,
00:20:23.100 I get a lot of speaking invitations.
00:20:25.040 And you don't really vet these things.
00:20:26.520 You just say, okay, well, I'll go to Texas or I'll go to this or whatever.
00:20:29.960 And you don't really pay a ton of attention.
00:20:31.760 So it's perfectly possible that this guy went to this conference not knowing that Richard Spencer was going to be there or something like that.
00:20:40.100 That said, I wouldn't have done it.
00:20:41.520 It's a little dodgy.
00:20:43.540 It's a little, they hold hands with these racist types.
00:20:46.720 And so that's not a great thing.
00:20:48.740 Should he have been fired for it?
00:20:49.660 I don't know.
00:20:50.460 Should, you know, is he a racist?
00:20:53.920 There's no evidence of that.
00:20:56.600 Did the media misreport this?
00:20:58.000 Yes.
00:20:58.280 Okay, that's all way of prelude because, well, we have this sort of dodgy club where they gave a speech.
00:21:07.140 He gave a speech on the intelligentsia in the right and there's some racist people in the room.
00:21:10.420 That's not good.
00:21:11.080 Meanwhile, the mainstream media and big tech are defending outright blatant racists and with nothing, with no problem whatsoever.
00:21:21.660 I'm trying to give a fair shake to the critics of this guy, Darren Beattie, for appearing at the Mencken Club and also to Beattie and not say he's a racist if he isn't a racist.
00:21:31.380 I'm trying to be honest about this.
00:21:32.720 What they do is they defend out and out racists.
00:21:35.680 Consider Sarah Jong.
00:21:37.700 You know Sarah Jong.
00:21:38.660 She's on the editorial board of the New York Times now.
00:21:40.940 She's that Asian girl who hates white people and talks about how awful white people are and they need to go extinct.
00:21:46.360 And she says she hates white men and they need to cancel white people and all that.
00:21:50.180 The New York Times was presented with all of this.
00:21:52.780 They stood by her.
00:21:53.680 They said, she's on our editorial board.
00:21:55.900 She represents what we think.
00:21:57.380 She represents what we want.
00:21:58.500 So when all of this came to light, Sarah Jong did not have a checkmark on Twitter, which used to be verification, but now it's validation because it just basically says who Twitter approves of or likes or whatever.
00:22:10.140 It's not really about who the person is anymore.
00:22:13.240 For instance, Richard Spencer lost his checkmark.
00:22:15.500 He didn't lose it because he's no longer Richard Spencer.
00:22:17.920 He lost it because he's kind of a neo-Nazi.
00:22:20.980 So Sarah Jong tweets all these awful things.
00:22:23.540 They come to light.
00:22:24.660 So what happened?
00:22:25.780 Did Twitter ban her from Twitter?
00:22:27.780 Must have, right?
00:22:28.860 They're banning Alex Jones, banning Gavin McGinnis.
00:22:31.940 Surely they banned Sarah Jong, right?
00:22:33.260 No, they gave her a checkmark.
00:22:35.340 They just gave, they said, oh, Sarah, I'm so, I can't believe, listen, we've heard you public.
00:22:40.280 We have heard you.
00:22:41.380 What Sarah tweeted, we hadn't seen that before.
00:22:43.800 And in light of those tweets, we should reward her.
00:22:46.700 Great job.
00:22:47.280 We should cancel white people.
00:22:49.040 They should all go extinct.
00:22:50.260 That is what they're saying.
00:22:51.720 That's what they're saying with this.
00:22:52.960 Out and out racists defending them.
00:22:54.620 How about Shanika Johnson?
00:22:55.660 This is one that I sort of found.
00:22:57.280 I'd like to take a little bit of credit for this.
00:22:59.040 I think it had been floating around the internet, but I got her to delete her tweets.
00:23:02.980 Shanika Johnson tweeted out, quote, this is a CBS News producer.
00:23:08.820 Verified checkmark on Twitter as she's tweeted these things.
00:23:12.200 Quote, now the white women can't keep their hands off our men.
00:23:16.140 So as they continue to make mixed babies, the white man will cease to exist.
00:23:20.640 Pow, lol.
00:23:22.260 Next one.
00:23:23.040 So many women, black, Hispanic, and Asian Americans in Senate and Congress now.
00:23:27.620 Middle-aged white men are slowly becoming minority.
00:23:30.380 Beautiful.
00:23:31.440 And then the third one, the one that I found today that she just deleted.
00:23:34.500 And unfortunately, I didn't get a screenshot.
00:23:36.460 F white America.
00:23:38.780 F white America, but without the F.
00:23:41.420 With the word instead of the F.
00:23:42.820 That's what she tweeted.
00:23:43.560 She has her Twitter account.
00:23:46.080 She's verified.
00:23:46.920 She's employed by CBS News.
00:23:48.540 So you're talking about this guy, this speech writer, who maybe shouldn't have gone to this conference
00:23:52.660 because the conference plays with some unsavory people.
00:23:56.340 And okay, I totally, yeah, okay, I totally grant that.
00:23:59.860 CBS News and the New York Times are employing out and out, self-outed,
00:24:07.560 self-showing themselves to be what they are, racists.
00:24:12.460 They're just out there.
00:24:14.100 They're right out there.
00:24:15.320 And there's no kickback for this.
00:24:17.780 I've got to hurry, but we've got so much more to get to today.
00:24:21.540 Another great example of the truth being hidden, hidden like the frosting inside a cake,
00:24:27.100 is this version of Jack Phillips.
00:24:29.400 You've heard this case of Jack Phillips.
00:24:31.720 He's the baker who didn't want to cater a gay wedding.
00:24:35.280 And so this gay couple sued him all the way up.
00:24:39.060 It went up to the Supreme Court.
00:24:40.540 State of Colorado said, you have to do it.
00:24:42.900 Forget about your religion.
00:24:44.040 No one cares about your religion.
00:24:45.220 Goes all the way up to the Supreme Court.
00:24:46.480 And the Supreme Court found that his First Amendment rights had been violated.
00:24:49.840 His rights to speech and his right to religion have been violated by this political lobby
00:24:56.100 that wants him to make gay wedding cakes.
00:24:58.000 So the same day that the Supreme Court agreed to hear his case, another guy calls up and
00:25:02.860 he says, I want you to make a cake which is blue on the inside and pink on the outside
00:25:07.060 to celebrate my transition from being a man to a woman.
00:25:11.440 I guess he's a man who thinks he's a woman and he's going to take hormones and mutilate
00:25:16.820 himself or something to do that.
00:25:18.640 And he wants Jack Phillips to participate in that celebration.
00:25:21.460 So Phillips says, no, I don't want to do that.
00:25:23.800 Thank you very much.
00:25:24.960 I don't specialize in those cakes and I'm not going to do it.
00:25:27.260 And of course, then he's being harassed by his government again.
00:25:31.300 An obvious setup, right?
00:25:32.620 Of course.
00:25:33.060 And the headlines are, Jack Phillips under fire again.
00:25:35.880 God, what a bigot this guy is.
00:25:37.180 As though Jack Phillips is the only baker in the state of Colorado.
00:25:39.820 You know, this guy, man, is there no other cake shop in these states?
00:25:45.100 I don't think it appears that way.
00:25:47.940 So how does Late Night deal with this?
00:25:51.720 He's obviously being targeted by these insane political activists on the left.
00:25:56.540 They're trying to ruin his life.
00:25:57.940 They've made him fire half his employees.
00:25:59.420 He's lost 40% at least of his income.
00:26:02.000 So how is this being played?
00:26:03.560 How's this being joked about on Late Night?
00:26:04.960 Jimmy Kimmel, take it away.
00:26:06.580 Court case after he refused to make a wedding cake for the same sex couple.
00:26:09.880 Well, he's back in court because of another cake he doesn't want to bake.
00:26:13.480 Jack Phillips filed a lawsuit against the governor of Colorado, this time over a gender transition cake.
00:26:19.260 It was blue on the outside and pink in the middle.
00:26:22.020 And somebody wanted to have this cake.
00:26:24.180 The Colorado Civil Rights Division says he has to bake it for them.
00:26:28.040 And he doesn't want to, which is really funny because this is a guy who spends all day every day meticulously designing flowers out of icing.
00:26:34.860 His whole life is gay, okay?
00:26:37.260 I don't know if he's worried the wrong cake might bring that to life or what.
00:26:41.820 And I will add, this is Jack Phillips, the totally straight cake baker.
00:26:45.880 You would think that someone who looks like the Reba McIntyre version of Colonel Sanders would be more sympathetic to gender identity issues.
00:26:56.680 He's gay, get it?
00:26:58.560 Do you get it?
00:26:59.300 He's gay, ha ha ha.
00:27:01.440 It's funny to be gay because according to Jimmy Kimmel, it's bad to be gay.
00:27:05.660 That's why it's a joke, right?
00:27:06.780 Because it's bad to be gay.
00:27:08.340 And he's gay, ha ha ha ha ha.
00:27:10.840 That's the joke.
00:27:11.980 So this one I don't really get.
00:27:13.660 Jimmy Kimmel keeps putting his foot in his mouth on this.
00:27:15.820 He did this with Sean Hannity.
00:27:17.380 He was arguing with Sean Hannity on Twitter and he said, Hannity, you're gay.
00:27:20.860 And then all of his fans said, wait a second, it's okay to be gay.
00:27:24.000 I thought, Jimmy, you're on the left and we on the left have been talking about how it's okay to be gay and now you're saying it's bad to be gay.
00:27:29.680 It doesn't quite make sense.
00:27:30.960 It's such an easy joke, but it's so bizarre.
00:27:34.320 Because if Jimmy Kimmel's whole premise is that gay marriage is a wonderful thing and the state should force you to participate in gay weddings and being a man who thinks you're a woman and then you're going to make yourself look more like a woman, that's a great thing.
00:27:47.220 And the state should force you to participate in those celebrations.
00:27:49.840 Then why would being gay be an insult?
00:27:54.180 It doesn't really make a lot of sense, does it?
00:27:55.860 But he does this all the time.
00:27:57.640 And it's so cheap.
00:27:58.640 I mean, why?
00:27:59.660 Can't this baker just, like, do his job?
00:28:02.440 Can't he just, like, go on with his life?
00:28:04.560 Why is the left so insistent on forcing people to do what they say?
00:28:11.900 Because that's the inherent nature of the left.
00:28:15.080 It gets down to this.
00:28:15.920 What's the truth?
00:28:16.560 Truth isn't truth.
00:28:17.300 Truth isn't truth.
00:28:18.260 When there is objective truth, when people recognize truth, when they can speak openly about truth,
00:28:24.580 they don't have to coerce you into following their desires.
00:28:28.440 They don't have to coerce you into doing what they say they want to do, going along with their fantasies.
00:28:32.840 Because there's the truth and we can see the truth.
00:28:34.840 But the left doesn't believe in the truth.
00:28:36.620 The left denies objective reality.
00:28:38.820 And so all they're left with is coercion.
00:28:41.560 They're just left with, I want the world to be like this.
00:28:45.320 So we all have to go along with that.
00:28:47.440 And if you don't go along with that, I'm going to go into your business.
00:28:50.600 I'm going to ruin your business, your livelihood, your reputation.
00:28:54.300 I'm going to drag you through the courts.
00:28:55.700 I'm going to drag you through legal proceedings for years and years and years.
00:28:59.000 In the case of Jack Phillips, this has been going on since 2012.
00:29:02.400 It's been going on for six years.
00:29:05.240 Because the left denies the truth.
00:29:07.340 And so they have to coerce you.
00:29:09.020 They have to force you.
00:29:11.600 What about some other truths that the left keeps talking about?
00:29:14.580 How the right is uncivil.
00:29:15.780 The right is so uncivil.
00:29:16.860 Donald Trump is uncivil.
00:29:18.160 He's unpresidential.
00:29:19.420 Because he's uncivil.
00:29:20.220 He whips up the passions.
00:29:22.280 And he is just a jerk.
00:29:24.400 And he calls for violence.
00:29:25.880 And he's, I don't know that he really does any of that.
00:29:27.800 Does he do that?
00:29:28.500 What about the Democrats?
00:29:30.060 L.C. Hastings, take it away.
00:29:32.000 But I will tell you one joke that I learned from Harry Silver,
00:29:37.120 whose father is a former state legislator and is a rabbi, Barry Silver.
00:29:43.560 But Harry asked the audience the other night in Palm Beach County.
00:29:46.800 He said, do you know the difference between a crisis and a catastrophe?
00:29:52.220 And no one held their hand.
00:29:54.280 So Harry answered for us.
00:29:55.840 He says, a crisis is if Donald Trump falls into the Potomac River and can't swim.
00:30:03.660 And he says, and a catastrophe is anybody saves his ass.
00:30:13.480 That's a Democrat congressman.
00:30:15.220 Imagine, imagine if a Republican congressman had said that about Barack Obama.
00:30:20.700 A crisis is if Obama falls in the river.
00:30:22.820 A catastrophe is if anyone tries to save him.
00:30:26.460 Imagine what would happen.
00:30:28.140 Do you remember there was a rodeo clown who sort of made fun of Obama one time.
00:30:32.480 Some random rodeo clown in the middle of nowhere did that.
00:30:36.760 It was an international news story for weeks.
00:30:40.240 A Democrat congressman is saying a catastrophe would be if someone saved the president from drowning.
00:30:47.640 And they say, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, that's, that's the, but the incivility of the right.
00:30:53.660 But the calls to violence, the passions, give me a break.
00:30:57.700 Yes, does Donald Trump arouse passions?
00:30:59.740 Yeah.
00:31:00.260 Is he uncivil?
00:31:01.200 Yeah.
00:31:01.460 And if he's not taken out of context and just floating in the ether, that is a true statement.
00:31:06.780 But in the context of this Democratic Party, of this left, which goes out there with billy clubs and beats up people for just trying to go see a Ben Shapiro speech or something.
00:31:16.240 In that context, it's a lie.
00:31:18.600 It's a total lie because it's the left pushing the violence and laughing at the violence and joking about the violence.
00:31:25.060 Perhaps the best example of this is the New York Times editorial board.
00:31:28.300 Do I have to say goodbye to Facebook?
00:31:29.480 I do.
00:31:31.280 Devastating.
00:31:31.820 There's so much more.
00:31:32.700 And I'm going to get to Fredo Cuomo.
00:31:34.080 I'm going to show you my favorite picture on the internet all day.
00:31:37.120 And then I'm going to finally, after all this talk of incivility and lies and ignoring the truth, I'm going to call for a little R-E-S-P-I-C-T.
00:31:44.680 But before we get to all that, I've got to say goodbye to Facebook and YouTube.
00:31:50.300 You're probably already gone because they're probably censoring us.
00:31:53.120 But if not, go to dailywire.com.
00:31:55.200 If you're there, thank you very much.
00:31:56.380 You help keep the lights on.
00:31:57.580 You keep Covfefe in my cup.
00:31:59.040 You keep Ben from knocking down this door and firing me.
00:32:02.100 So I appreciate that very much.
00:32:04.220 Again, none of that matters.
00:32:05.260 We've got the conversation coming up.
00:32:06.540 We're doing that tomorrow, I think, aren't we?
00:32:08.680 It's going to be tomorrow.
00:32:09.700 I believe 5.30 Eastern, 2.30 Pacific.
00:32:12.580 We'll clarify that for you, though.
00:32:14.460 So you've got to subscribe now so you can ask me all the questions you want.
00:32:18.560 None of that matters.
00:32:19.700 This is what matters.
00:32:20.500 This right here, the Leftist Tears Tumblr.
00:32:23.840 This is really...
00:32:24.940 Oh, that's really good.
00:32:28.700 It's the only way to survive these days because you've got the left questioning the truth.
00:32:35.280 You've got Rudy Giuliani joking about this on TV.
00:32:37.380 He says, well, you know, when it comes to you people, the truth isn't the truth.
00:32:39.840 But let me drop a little truth on you.
00:32:42.280 Those Leftist Tears are salty and delicious and they're going to keep flowing.
00:32:45.200 So make sure you get your Tumblr.
00:32:46.360 We'll be right back.
00:32:47.220 Go to dailywire.com.
00:32:48.000 All right.
00:32:59.140 The Left is always projecting.
00:33:00.320 We've talked about that.
00:33:01.640 And in their projection, they will say a truth, which then in context becomes a lie.
00:33:08.760 Here's a great example from the New York Times editorial board, which vicious racist Sarah
00:33:12.960 Zhang now sits on, quote, Donald Trump, the payback president.
00:33:18.800 The payback president.
00:33:20.020 Okay.
00:33:20.400 All right.
00:33:20.700 I'm with you.
00:33:21.860 He's a pretty tough guy.
00:33:22.820 All right.
00:33:23.100 What's it say?
00:33:23.600 Quote, what fun is it being president if you can't use the tools of government to punish
00:33:27.340 your critics?
00:33:28.340 The piece goes on.
00:33:29.740 There is a word for an approach to leadership that features treating the tax code, postal rates,
00:33:35.100 antitrust laws, and the First Amendment as weapons to settle one's personal grudges.
00:33:39.780 And that word is not democratic.
00:33:43.580 It's Obama.
00:33:44.500 That's the word.
00:33:45.080 The word is Obama.
00:33:46.280 Obama-esque.
00:33:47.480 The Obama administration.
00:33:48.900 I cannot believe that they said this with a straight face.
00:33:51.900 Just look.
00:33:52.200 What are they talking about here?
00:33:53.140 The payback president.
00:33:54.080 First of all, Barack Obama was so vindictive against his opponents that when the Supreme
00:33:59.860 Court unjustly redefined marriage and found a right to intimacy or something in the Constitution,
00:34:05.060 he painted the White House in rainbow lights just to poke his finger in the eye of his opponents.
00:34:10.000 But how about this?
00:34:10.620 There's a word for an approach to leadership that features treating the tax code, postal rates,
00:34:14.160 antitrust laws, and the First Amendments as weapons to settle one's personal grudges.
00:34:18.560 Barack Obama used the IRS to target his opponents.
00:34:22.980 He targeted Tea Party groups.
00:34:24.300 He targeted right-wing groups.
00:34:25.640 He targeted conservative-leaning organizations.
00:34:28.100 He audited them.
00:34:29.120 He held them up for years and years.
00:34:30.880 I know this.
00:34:31.500 I was a member of the groups.
00:34:32.880 I was there at the time.
00:34:34.400 He weaponized the IRS.
00:34:36.400 Maybe the New York Times doesn't know about that because they didn't report on it because
00:34:39.200 it was only right-wing outlets that were talking about that ridiculous,
00:34:43.220 ridiculous scandal for which people had to resign.
00:34:46.400 I mean, there finally was enough public pressure.
00:34:49.060 How about the First Amendment?
00:34:51.240 Using the First Amendment as a weapon.
00:34:53.240 Well, Barack Obama, when the Supreme Court found that you have a First Amendment right
00:34:58.980 to political speech by shutting down McCain-Feingold, Barack Obama admonished them from the State
00:35:05.160 of the Union where he knew that they couldn't respond.
00:35:07.260 He admonished them.
00:35:08.040 He said, this is terrible.
00:35:08.920 And he lied about what the Supreme Court decision would do, probably because he doesn't know
00:35:12.560 very much about the Constitution or constitutional law.
00:35:15.700 But then to weaponize the agencies, look at what they did to Dinesh D'Souza.
00:35:20.800 Dinesh D'Souza, I believe in the campaign year 2010, he gave a few, like, what was it,
00:35:29.080 $20,000 or $30,000 to Wendy Long, his old college pal from Dartmouth, who was running
00:35:33.680 an impossible Senate race in New York.
00:35:36.020 I was working New York campaigns at the time, we all knew Wendy Long was going to lose,
00:35:39.880 we knew there was no chance she was going to win, and Dinesh gave her some extra money
00:35:43.500 through, I think, straw donations, right?
00:35:45.240 He exceeded the legal limit of donations to her.
00:35:49.040 This happens in every campaign, this happens in every race, this happens all the time on
00:35:53.080 both sides of the aisle.
00:35:54.320 It is never prosecuted.
00:35:55.680 Barack Obama's administration selectively prosecuted Dinesh D'Souza, and not only did
00:36:00.820 they fine him for this, not only did they slap him on the wrist, they threw him in the
00:36:04.200 slammer, they put him in a halfway house with murderers and rapists for six months.
00:36:09.500 Insane.
00:36:10.480 Absolutely insane.
00:36:11.540 They threw him there because they weaponized the federal government to go after their political
00:36:16.480 opponents.
00:36:17.220 New York Times doesn't know this.
00:36:18.420 So yes, in the short context, is Trump vindictive?
00:36:21.440 You betcha.
00:36:22.060 Is this payback for eight years of Barack Obama running roughshod over this country, over our
00:36:27.640 constitution, over our federal government, and over the bitter clingers whom he so disdained
00:36:32.480 in the flyover country between the Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean?
00:36:36.320 Yes, it is payback, baby, and it feels good.
00:36:39.060 But in the broader context, Donald Trump is a schoolboy compared to Barack Obama.
00:36:43.740 They won't talk about that.
00:36:44.720 How about, talk about weaponizing the government.
00:36:46.360 Do you remember when Obama made that joke about the Jonas Brothers?
00:36:48.660 Show that clip from the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
00:36:52.820 The Jonas Brothers are here.
00:36:56.620 They're out there somewhere.
00:36:59.480 Sasha and Malia are huge fans.
00:37:02.660 But boys don't get any ideas.
00:37:05.600 I have two words for you.
00:37:07.840 Predator drones.
00:37:10.680 You will never see it coming.
00:37:17.080 You think I'm joking.
00:37:18.660 Okay, I actually kind of like the joke.
00:37:25.520 I thought it was a pretty funny joke.
00:37:26.780 But he's joking about weaponizing the federal government.
00:37:29.300 The reason that joke lands is because he did that regularly.
00:37:32.080 He boasted in 2012, he said, I have kill lists that I approve every morning and then we kill people.
00:37:37.000 Some who perhaps should have had a trial, perhaps should have had some due process.
00:37:41.500 He's zapping them.
00:37:43.620 And of course he weaponized the federal government against his political opponents too.
00:37:46.840 That's why it landed.
00:37:47.460 Okay, before we go, I know we're running out of time.
00:37:50.140 I do want to point out the most Orwellian version of this so you can all be on your toes about it.
00:37:54.700 Previously, I've been referring to Chris as Fredo Cuomo, but I think Andrew might be, I think they're all Fredo.
00:38:00.880 It's a family of Fredos.
00:38:02.440 You know, there's not even a Sonny.
00:38:04.660 There's certainly no Michael.
00:38:05.640 It's just all Fredos in the Cuomo family.
00:38:07.540 Mario included.
00:38:08.660 Mario is no veto, let me tell you.
00:38:11.080 People say Mario Cuomo would be so ashamed of his sons.
00:38:13.660 No, he wouldn't.
00:38:14.520 Mario was a total degenerate too.
00:38:16.420 He was the guy who pioneered, I'm pro-life, but I oppose, but I support abortion.
00:38:22.440 You said, what?
00:38:23.080 He goes, I'm personally pro-life, but I support legal abortion and killing babies.
00:38:27.500 You said, well, that doesn't make any sense, Mario.
00:38:29.280 He's the guy who pioneered that.
00:38:30.480 A family of degenerates, the Cuomos.
00:38:33.260 Anyway, so Andrew Cuomo is now accusing Donald Trump of being anti-American.
00:38:39.700 That's the phrase, anti-American.
00:38:42.280 This is Andrew Cuomo last week.
00:38:45.100 We're not going to make America great again.
00:38:48.560 It was never that great.
00:38:52.940 We have not reached greatness.
00:38:57.160 We will reach greatness.
00:39:00.480 When every American is fully engaged.
00:39:06.960 So the guy who says, America is not great.
00:39:10.940 We're not going to make America great again.
00:39:13.040 America was never that great.
00:39:14.600 That guy is accusing Donald Trump, whose entire campaign is to make America great again,
00:39:21.800 and constantly extols the virtues of America, to call him anti-American.
00:39:25.560 Does it get more Orwellian than that?
00:39:28.100 That is what Orwellianism is.
00:39:29.960 So when you see the left say, oh, Giuliani, he's being Orwellian.
00:39:33.820 He's saying truth isn't truth.
00:39:35.280 Give me a break.
00:39:36.580 We could go on.
00:39:37.440 I'm running out of time, so we can't keep going on with these examples.
00:39:39.760 You could go all day showing these examples from the left.
00:39:43.100 It's so outrageous.
00:39:45.880 But they say, look, he said that.
00:39:47.320 Yeah, all shallows are clear.
00:39:48.400 In a very narrow context, out of context, rather, the left can say true things.
00:39:56.040 In context, they're dirty, rotten liars.
00:39:59.000 Now, this brings me to This Is America.
00:40:01.060 Very quickly, I can't help but post this.
00:40:04.320 It's the greatest image on the internet all week in the last few weeks.
00:40:08.740 It's Nancy Pelosi holding an American flag.
00:40:11.160 Have you ever seen a person look less comfortable doing anything?
00:40:16.860 She's just there like, get it away.
00:40:20.080 I'm going to melt if it burns.
00:40:21.540 It burns.
00:40:22.280 It burns.
00:40:23.440 America was never that great.
00:40:24.580 I'm going to make it my desktop background.
00:40:28.080 That photo is beautiful.
00:40:29.360 I don't know why she would allow herself to be photographed with the American flag as it's radiating off of her like kryptonite.
00:40:38.320 Really, really good.
00:40:39.860 Before we go, on a quick little segment that I would like to refer to as how to be a man when you look like a Maddow,
00:40:47.300 we have to talk about exclamation points.
00:40:49.560 We have to talk about it.
00:40:50.540 The Wall Street Journal made me think about this over the weekend because they ran this piece called
00:40:55.560 The Tyranny of the Exclamation Point is Causing Email and Text Anxiety.
00:41:01.600 When I talk to people who are serious people and serious thinkers,
00:41:06.660 almost uniformly they complain about the prevalence of exclamation points.
00:41:11.160 You know this.
00:41:11.580 Every text is an exclamation point.
00:41:13.760 Every email is like 20 exclamation points.
00:41:15.920 You have to do it as though everyone is just like blowing lines of covfefe
00:41:19.980 and is just constantly, well, maybe I am.
00:41:22.420 Okay, I can use exclamation points.
00:41:23.820 But other people shouldn't because it's too much, man.
00:41:27.360 It's too much.
00:41:28.780 Some of the greatest writers in history have despised exclamation points.
00:41:32.520 F. Scott Fitzgerald has a good one.
00:41:33.900 He says, quote,
00:41:34.800 Cut out all these exclamation points.
00:41:36.720 An exclamation point is like laughing at your own joke.
00:41:39.760 And that is what it is.
00:41:40.820 You're cueing the audience or the recipient that you've had a joke and they should laugh.
00:41:48.020 It's like a laugh track in a sitcom.
00:41:49.400 You have to do it because the strength of your language didn't make them laugh.
00:41:52.940 Mark Twain said the same thing.
00:41:54.020 He said it's like laughing at your own humor.
00:41:55.520 Quote,
00:41:56.140 All of which is very depressing and makes one want to renounce joking and lead a better life.
00:42:01.820 That is true.
00:42:03.080 You get all these emails.
00:42:04.340 And one thing I'll notice too, I'm as guilty of this as anybody.
00:42:07.460 I use exclamation points in emails and I have to stop doing it and you should too.
00:42:11.720 Because when you get an email from someone who doesn't use exclamation points,
00:42:14.760 you just respect them more.
00:42:16.540 Because you know that they're more serious.
00:42:19.060 They're more confident.
00:42:20.340 The use of exclamation points shows that you're not very confident in your joke or in your statement
00:42:25.880 or in the relationship or whatever.
00:42:27.720 It creates anxiety.
00:42:29.560 What the Wall Street Journal is talking about is now,
00:42:31.300 if you get an email without an exclamation point,
00:42:33.300 you think, oh, am I getting fired?
00:42:35.040 If the God King sends me an email and there aren't 15 exclamation points,
00:42:38.940 then I know I'm fired.
00:42:39.820 They're finally going to kick the door in.
00:42:41.620 Ben is going to drag me out of here kicking and screaming.
00:42:44.460 This gets back to this David McCullough line,
00:42:46.920 which is that to write well is to think clearly,
00:42:50.140 which is why it's so hard.
00:42:51.880 If you are telling a joke or trying to convey something amusing
00:42:54.960 or trying to exclaim something,
00:42:57.240 trying to convey something particularly important in a particularly emphatic way,
00:43:02.000 you should do it with words.
00:43:03.500 You should use your words carefully.
00:43:05.440 We don't use words very well anymore.
00:43:07.240 And so now there are misspellings.
00:43:10.200 We type in text speak and all of this.
00:43:12.100 And we make up for that with the stupid punctuation
00:43:14.360 and these exclamation points.
00:43:15.880 Very unmanly.
00:43:17.280 Take it from a guy like me, okay?
00:43:19.420 I've got these horn-rimmed Rachel Maddow glasses on.
00:43:23.040 I'm not exactly a giant or an Olympian or something.
00:43:26.480 I've got to find masculinity where I can,
00:43:29.480 where I can access it.
00:43:31.120 And this is one simple way that everybody can do it.
00:43:33.940 But to write well is to think clearly.
00:43:37.160 Cut it out with those exclamation points.
00:43:38.800 We'll all calm down.
00:43:40.020 You know, one of the complaints about our civil society today
00:43:42.420 is everyone's so worked up and frenzied all the time and, you know, crazy.
00:43:47.700 Decrease.
00:43:48.120 You don't have to get rid of them entirely.
00:43:49.460 Just bring them back.
00:43:50.340 I think one way you can use them is ha! exclamation point.
00:43:54.740 You know what I mean?
00:43:55.160 Ha!
00:43:55.480 That's because you are laughing in the ha!
00:43:57.360 You know, or if you're trying to be sarcastic,
00:43:59.120 you can use an exclamation point.
00:44:00.220 But in your own earnest writing, just make a comment down a little.
00:44:03.200 I'm going to work to comment down on Twitter, on email.
00:44:06.400 Maybe you should too.
00:44:07.360 We'll have a more relaxed, confident society.
00:44:09.820 And we'll finally respect ourselves again.
00:44:11.960 You know, so much of it is we don't really respect ourselves and our own ideas.
00:44:15.600 And, uh...
00:44:16.000 So in the words of my late friend Aretha Franklin,
00:44:20.200 show some R-E-S-P-I-C-T.
00:44:24.700 That's right.
00:44:25.400 That's exactly right, Reverend Sharpton.
00:44:27.300 You've got to respect yourselves some more.
00:44:29.260 Because, you know, the journal made me think about it a little bit,
00:44:31.640 but it's really you, Reverend Sharpton.
00:44:33.200 You may realize you've got to just respect yourself.
00:44:35.580 Like in the words of Aretha Franklin.
00:44:38.600 R-E-S-P-I-C-T.
00:44:41.340 Period.
00:44:42.180 Not exclamation point.
