00:00:30.000 The U.S. Women's National Soccer Team,

00:00:32.440 which two years ago was beaten 5-2 by a team of boys

00:00:36.640 under the age of 15, has won the World Cup or something.

00:00:40.460 We will analyze what the rise of soccer means

00:00:42.840 for American politics.

00:00:44.240 Then, President Trump parades tanks through D.C.

00:00:47.280 A 2020 Democrat may be dropping out of the race.

00:00:50.180 And Nancy Pelosi snipes at AOC.

00:00:52.260 All that and more.

00:00:53.220 I'm Michael Knowles, and this is The Michael Knowles Show.

00:01:00.000 So much to get to today.

00:01:04.160 The world of sports has been rocked by the women's national team 1.00

00:01:09.160 and Megan Rapinoe.

00:01:10.760 But as you know, listen, I'm employed by The Daily Wire.

00:01:13.820 My show is hosted on The Daily Wire.

00:01:16.780 When we want to get to great sports coverage,

00:01:19.380 we have to turn to our sister network, Daily Wire 2,

00:01:22.240 and our Daily Wire 2 sports correspondent,

00:01:24.680 Jeremy, the verified God King Boring. 0.98

00:01:27.000 Yowza, Michael.

00:01:28.080 Now with verified.

00:01:30.160 Bold but not old.

00:01:31.520 Enormous news, Michael, from the world of sports ball.

00:01:34.140 As for the second time in a row,

00:01:36.480 America has proven conclusively 0.73

00:01:38.080 that our team is greater than all of the women's soccer teams

00:01:41.360 in the world.

00:01:42.640 And by our team,

00:01:43.360 I mean the FC Dallas Under-15 Boys Academy,

00:01:46.500 a squad of 15-year-old and younger lads

00:01:49.460 not quite athletic enough to play football

00:01:51.400 or baseball or even basketball,

00:01:53.680 but who are nevertheless better

00:01:55.300 than the America's national women's team,

00:01:57.580 who in turn is better than all the other women's national teams

00:02:00.260 from all the other nations 0.87

00:02:01.520 who let women play sports ball.

00:02:03.600 This, Michael,

00:02:04.640 despite the overwhelming pay disparity

00:02:06.680 between the female players 0.97

00:02:07.960 who reportedly picked up a quarter of a million dollars each

00:02:10.960 for the last game they won,

00:02:12.420 and the scarcely pubescent male players

00:02:14.720 whose only compensation for their victory

00:02:16.840 was getting to skip third period for the game

00:02:18.980 and having a shot at the fourth hottest girls in school,

00:02:21.840 those not quite hot enough

00:02:23.040 to date the high school football or baseball

00:02:25.200 or even basketball players.

00:02:27.700 Nevertheless,

00:02:28.740 as no average teenage male was yet allowed

00:02:31.340 in the twice-a-year global tournament

00:02:32.840 known as the FIFA Women's World Cup,

00:02:35.780 America's women's national team emerged victorious

00:02:38.200 in a competition handily defeating Holland,

00:02:40.780 a nation literally filled with Dutch.

00:02:43.780 They won by a score, Michael, of 2-0.

00:02:46.740 The pride of America celebrated their win

00:02:49.000 by trampling the flag of the nation

00:02:51.220 they were being paid to represent

00:02:52.400 doing a cute little girl dance

00:02:54.240 and bitching incessantly 1.00

00:02:55.660 about how they aren't paid the same as men

00:02:58.180 to do the exact same job.

00:03:01.120 Completely missing the point

00:03:02.220 that their job is not, in fact,

00:03:03.740 to kick a sports ball,

00:03:04.740 but to generate revenue

00:03:05.860 in the form of ticket sales,

00:03:07.320 merchandise, and TV licensing rights,

00:03:09.040 which they do not do.

00:03:11.280 International media was quick

00:03:12.500 to provide context for the women's nagging 1.00

00:03:14.580 by pointing out that men and women 0.72

00:03:16.560 are exactly the same.

00:03:18.720 Because men are famous for nagging. 0.96

00:03:22.880 The media also completely ignored the fact

00:03:25.460 that the Men's World Cup

00:03:26.780 generates a literal order of magnitude

00:03:28.660 more money than the women's sport 0.92

00:03:29.920 because, and I swear I'm not making this up, Michael,

00:03:32.680 there is a sport people care less about

00:03:35.020 than men's soccer.

00:03:36.060 The media did stick at the president,

00:03:38.780 Donald Trump, however,

00:03:39.860 reporting on how a group of young people

00:03:41.540 calling themselves Americans,

00:03:43.420 despite clear on-camera evidence

00:03:45.240 that they were watching girls play soccer

00:03:47.340 in public in France,

00:03:49.480 were cursing the U.S. president

00:03:50.680 after Team USA's win.

00:03:53.440 Donald Trump is reported to have responded

00:03:55.100 by saying,

00:03:56.180 I'm going to be president for life.

00:03:58.660 And then drinking from a Daily Wire

00:04:06.400 Get yours now.

00:04:07.680 But, Michael,

00:04:08.680 as if that's not enough information

00:04:10.320 about a sport

00:04:10.920 neither one of us knows anything about,

00:04:13.080 there's more.

00:04:14.340 America's national men's team

00:04:16.040 also competed in a soccer match this weekend,

00:04:18.660 the Gold Cup,

00:04:19.780 which I can only assume

00:04:20.960 is an even bigger deal

00:04:21.900 than the World Cup

00:04:22.660 since it's gold.

00:04:23.900 They lost, however,

00:04:24.960 to America's southern neighbor, Mexico,

00:04:27.240 proving yet again 0.99

00:04:28.320 that this is a pathetic non-sport 0.98

00:04:30.180 game of chance 0.93

00:04:30.980 that in no way represents

00:04:32.060 national greatness

00:04:32.820 and that we should, in fact,

00:04:34.740 build the wall

00:04:35.360 on our southern border

00:04:36.200 immediately

00:04:36.820 to keep our male soccer players 1.00

00:04:38.620 in this country

00:04:39.500 where they can't humiliate us abroad 0.57

00:04:41.920 by losing a child's game

00:04:43.620 to a near-third-world narco state.

00:04:46.060 Build the wall, Michael.

00:04:47.240 Build the wall.

00:04:48.420 Build the wall.

00:04:49.820 Yowza! 1.00

00:04:51.580 Jeremy,

00:04:52.420 wasn't the Gold Cup

00:04:53.720 played in Chicago?

00:04:55.720 How the hell would I know, Michael?

00:04:57.460 I'm just a Daily Wire 2

00:04:58.780 sports correspondent.

00:04:59.880 You know, Jeremy,

00:05:01.940 just fabulous coverage as always.

00:05:04.100 I can't wait

00:05:04.860 till the World Cup

00:05:05.580 happens again next year

00:05:06.600 and we can do it all again.

00:05:07.900 You know, I have to admit

00:05:08.800 that this was a subpar performance

00:05:10.360 on my part, Michael,

00:05:11.720 which I think is appropriate

00:05:13.020 for a subpar sport.

00:05:14.600 It turns out

00:05:15.260 there's just not that much funny

00:05:16.940 to say about the Women's World Cup.

00:05:19.480 You know, I mean,

00:05:20.340 if there were,

00:05:20.960 I think you would have found it,

00:05:22.180 but unfortunately,

00:05:23.380 you, along with the rest of the world,

00:05:25.280 could find no humor

00:05:26.180 in that sport.

00:05:27.400 Yowza! 1.00

00:05:27.800 Great coverage as always

00:05:31.060 from Jeremy,

00:05:32.160 the now verified

00:05:33.360 God King

00:05:34.420 boring.

00:05:35.640 This,

00:05:36.080 now I know that Jeremy

00:05:37.180 actually is Jeremy.

00:05:39.560 I know,

00:05:40.660 listen,

00:05:41.020 I read my tweets,

00:05:42.560 I get the email,

00:05:43.820 I know

00:05:44.220 that some conservatives

00:05:45.620 like soccer,

00:05:47.580 but you shouldn't.

00:05:49.480 I know,

00:05:50.060 hear me out.

00:05:50.780 This is what I'm,

00:05:51.300 I'm not saying,

00:05:52.140 just hear me out

00:05:52.800 beyond the jokes,

00:05:54.040 beyond the Daily Wire 2

00:05:55.660 sports coverage.

00:05:57.480 Hear me out

00:05:58.120 as to why

00:05:59.060 soccer actually is

00:06:00.960 anti-American.

00:06:02.180 Because even if soccer

00:06:03.400 theoretically could be

00:06:04.560 a good sport,

00:06:05.260 and I'm willing to grant

00:06:06.380 that theoretically

00:06:07.180 there's some universe

00:06:08.160 in which soccer

00:06:09.160 could be sort of

00:06:10.160 a watchable sport.

00:06:11.500 In practice,

00:06:13.420 soccer is

00:06:14.260 anti-American.

00:06:16.040 How much more evidence

00:06:17.440 of it do you need?

00:06:18.940 Just from this

00:06:20.160 last version of it,

00:06:21.300 this last run

00:06:22.080 through the Women's World Cup,

00:06:23.480 the captain

00:06:24.040 of the American

00:06:24.740 women's team

00:06:25.440 repeatedly,

00:06:27.240 consistently

00:06:27.880 disrespected

00:06:29.080 the flag.

00:06:30.360 Then,

00:06:30.840 one of the players,

00:06:31.820 Allie Long,

00:06:32.720 dropped the flag

00:06:33.600 on the ground

00:06:34.280 so that she could

00:06:34.900 dance around

00:06:35.420 and mug for the cameras.

00:06:36.920 Then,

00:06:37.340 a bunch of

00:06:37.860 American soccer fans

00:06:39.080 started chanting

00:06:40.060 F Trump

00:06:41.080 after the victory

00:06:42.340 on Fox News.

00:06:43.620 Here they are.

00:06:44.520 Guess what?

00:06:45.360 History has just

00:06:46.400 been made,

00:06:47.240 Arthal.

00:06:47.760 We are here

00:06:48.520 in a sports

00:06:49.120 part of Leone.

00:06:50.040 Listen to it.

00:06:53.520 We are in a sports

00:06:54.880 We were going to

00:06:56.080 out

00:06:56.980 We were

00:06:58.260 looking at

00:06:59.460 green

00:07:00.380 with the

00:07:01.620 tank

00:07:02.760 there,

00:07:03.800 but in

00:07:04.200 that game

00:07:05.280 canceled

00:07:06.280 by the officials

00:07:07.700 because they were

00:07:08.840 worried about

00:07:09.980 security measures.

00:07:11.120 So,

00:07:11.620 the American fans

00:07:12.580 here,

00:07:13.020 they came in

00:07:13.980 from that location

00:07:16.160 over to the

00:07:17.100 sports bar

00:07:17.740 and it's been

00:07:18.400 a great,

00:07:19.220 crazy time here

00:07:20.240 watching history

00:07:21.140 being made.

00:07:22.400 That's how the

00:07:23.080 Americans were

00:07:23.900 celebrating their

00:07:25.320 national team's

00:07:26.540 victory abroad.

00:07:27.980 And regardless

00:07:28.680 of your political

00:07:29.340 party,

00:07:29.900 regardless of what

00:07:30.540 sports you like,

00:07:31.920 you wouldn't see

00:07:32.660 that kind of thing

00:07:33.460 in baseball

00:07:34.080 or football

00:07:35.120 or basketball.

00:07:36.160 But that's not

00:07:36.700 all they said.

00:07:37.220 We'll get to

00:07:37.480 what they said

00:07:37.880 in a second.

00:07:38.580 We'll get to

00:07:38.900 the key difference

00:07:39.660 between soccer

00:07:40.260 and other sports.

00:07:41.160 But first,

00:07:41.980 let me tell you

00:07:42.920 about one of

00:07:44.060 the coolest

00:07:44.460 products I've

00:07:45.280 ever seen.

00:07:46.300 This is

00:07:46.920 PaintyourLife.com.

00:07:48.960 If you want to

00:07:49.660 give a truly

00:07:50.460 meaningful gift,

00:07:51.760 you've got to

00:07:52.380 try PaintyourLife.com.

00:07:54.140 So,

00:07:54.400 I saw this

00:07:55.980 sponsor and I

00:07:57.360 said,

00:07:57.500 that looks pretty

00:07:57.980 cool,

00:07:58.300 but I'm a little

00:07:58.640 skeptical of it

00:07:59.300 in practice.

00:08:00.060 The idea is

00:08:00.680 if you have a

00:08:01.140 photo of yourself,

00:08:02.780 you know,

00:08:02.980 your kids,

00:08:03.800 your dog,

00:08:04.580 a nice place

00:08:05.420 that you like to

00:08:05.960 go,

00:08:06.360 you send the

00:08:07.100 photo in and

00:08:08.080 you can pick

00:08:08.600 out which

00:08:09.100 painter you want,

00:08:10.280 which artist you

00:08:10.880 want on their

00:08:11.300 website,

00:08:11.840 and you will get

00:08:12.700 a full original

00:08:14.360 hand-painted

00:08:15.320 painting.

00:08:15.960 An oil painting

00:08:16.600 is what I

00:08:17.040 got from

00:08:17.880 PaintyourLife.com.

00:08:18.940 And I just

00:08:19.360 was skeptical

00:08:19.880 because I

00:08:20.320 thought,

00:08:20.640 how good can

00:08:21.440 the painting

00:08:21.820 be?

00:08:22.840 There's no way

00:08:23.800 you just send

00:08:24.500 in this photo

00:08:25.400 and in a couple

00:08:25.960 weeks you get

00:08:27.080 this painting

00:08:27.620 back.

00:08:27.880 There's no way

00:08:28.180 it's going to

00:08:28.400 be any good.

00:08:28.960 I am here to

00:08:29.520 tell you,

00:08:30.100 I sent in a

00:08:30.800 pretty complex

00:08:31.560 painting of

00:08:32.440 my stepbrother

00:08:33.100 and my

00:08:33.780 stepsister-in-law

00:08:34.540 on their

00:08:34.800 wedding day,

00:08:35.840 and it was in

00:08:36.940 Grand Central,

00:08:37.660 so it's kind of

00:08:38.120 a difficult place

00:08:38.700 to paint.

00:08:39.780 When this thing

00:08:40.340 came back,

00:08:41.300 I could not

00:08:42.080 believe what a

00:08:43.560 beautiful work of

00:08:44.640 art it is,

00:08:45.600 and for a price

00:08:46.740 that is shocking.

00:08:48.400 It is shocking

00:08:49.220 how inexpensive

00:08:50.280 it is to get

00:08:51.540 a beautiful

00:08:52.340 handcrafted work

00:08:53.480 of art from

00:08:54.460 any picture that

00:08:55.480 you want to have

00:08:55.980 painted.

00:08:56.460 I am now using

00:08:57.500 this service

00:08:58.640 repeatedly already

00:08:59.880 for Christmas

00:09:00.400 presents.

00:09:00.920 I just love this

00:09:01.780 thing.

00:09:02.020 It's unbelievable.

00:10:00.620 of this product.

00:10:01.340 It is just

00:10:01.980 incredible, and if

00:10:03.440 you're one of my

00:10:03.920 relatives or close

00:10:04.820 friends, you're going

00:10:05.500 to get one at

00:10:06.440 Christmas, probably.

00:10:07.720 To get this special

00:10:08.860 offer, text

00:10:09.720 Knolls, right

00:10:10.560 now, to 484848.

00:10:14.300 K-N-O-W-L-E-S, to 1.00

00:10:15.600 484848.

00:10:17.640 K-N-O-W-L-E-S, to 1.00

00:10:19.800 484848.

00:10:21.320 Message and data

00:10:22.000 rates may apply.

00:10:24.280 So you have these

00:10:25.340 American, quote-unquote,

00:10:26.680 soccer fans in France,

00:10:28.660 and they were cheering,

00:10:30.520 F-Trump, F-Trump.

00:10:31.780 I don't care who the 0.71

00:10:32.580 president is.

00:10:33.180 I don't care what

00:10:33.760 political party you're

00:10:34.640 in.

00:10:35.140 You don't do that.

00:10:36.240 At a sports game,

00:10:38.420 where theoretically, at

00:10:39.520 least, you're supposed

00:10:40.100 to be supporting your

00:10:41.340 country.

00:10:41.800 The sports have always

00:10:43.400 been patriotic.

00:10:44.840 That's what sports are

00:10:45.920 in part for.

00:10:47.160 And this is especially

00:10:48.060 true when you're

00:10:48.700 overseas.

00:10:49.300 But that's not all that

00:10:50.240 they said.

00:10:50.620 Here's what some of

00:10:51.320 these fans were telling

00:10:52.840 to reporters after the

00:10:54.540 Americans won.

00:10:55.240 You hear that?

00:11:24.420 This guy hates his

00:11:25.920 president. 0.92

00:11:27.000 He hates the people who

00:11:28.580 voted for the president. 0.93

00:11:29.520 He hates half of his

00:11:30.300 country.

00:11:31.760 I don't care if it's

00:11:33.040 Obama.

00:11:33.440 I don't care if it's

00:11:33.940 Trump.

00:11:34.260 You don't hear at a

00:11:34.920 baseball game, F-Trump

00:11:36.340 or F-Obama.

00:11:37.340 You don't hear F-Trump.

00:11:38.660 You shouldn't, at least.

00:11:39.820 But it's soccer you do.

00:11:42.300 Why has this so

00:11:43.700 consistently gone wrong?

00:11:45.740 Why is it that left

00:11:46.780 wingers, in particular,

00:11:47.820 like that guy, why do

00:11:49.520 they love soccer in

00:11:51.120 particular?

00:11:51.820 The problem is in

00:11:53.920 soccer itself.

00:11:55.160 Just hear me out.

00:11:57.640 A few reasons.

00:11:58.500 One, because individual

00:12:00.400 achievement matters very

00:12:01.760 little in soccer.

00:12:02.980 Very little in soccer

00:12:03.840 actually happens.

00:12:05.460 It's not a terribly

00:12:06.500 interesting game, but

00:12:07.700 that's not even the

00:12:08.440 point.

00:12:08.920 I'm willing to grant that

00:12:10.160 baseball is not always

00:12:11.580 the most enthralling

00:12:12.940 game.

00:12:13.520 I mean, if you're paying

00:12:14.320 attention to what's

00:12:14.980 happening, it is.

00:12:16.100 But it can be slow.

00:12:17.260 And soccer is very slow,

00:12:18.280 too.

00:12:19.000 But at least in

00:12:19.640 baseball, there are

00:12:20.480 breakout performances.

00:12:22.160 Individual achievement

00:12:23.240 is paramount.

00:12:25.880 In soccer, there are

00:12:26.600 very few breakout

00:12:27.480 performances.

00:12:28.580 There are very few

00:12:29.080 goals.

00:12:30.140 Very often, soccer

00:12:31.220 games will end in

00:12:32.280 ties.

00:12:33.640 For people who don't

00:12:35.160 like to see individual

00:12:36.060 achievement, for people

00:12:37.160 who want us all to be

00:12:39.280 in it together and not

00:12:40.280 to make anyone special

00:12:41.320 and know everyone gets

00:12:42.200 a participation trophy,

00:12:43.840 soccer is much more

00:12:45.200 welcoming to that point

00:12:47.400 of view.

00:12:48.340 Why else does the

00:12:49.120 left like soccer so

00:12:50.020 much?

00:12:51.300 Because soccer is

00:12:52.660 foreign.

00:12:54.280 Now, this is largely

00:12:55.340 why the left loves it,

00:12:56.480 because it's a favorite

00:12:57.280 sport of people who

00:12:58.820 study abroad and then

00:13:00.320 they come home with a

00:13:01.100 fake accent.

00:13:02.200 It's a favorite sport of

00:13:03.220 people who, when they're

00:13:04.120 overseas, they say,

00:13:05.140 I'm embarrassed to be

00:13:05.920 American, like that guy.

00:13:07.740 They say, oh, I'm from

00:13:08.760 New York.

00:13:09.820 I'm from D.C.

00:13:10.940 I'm from L.A., but I'm

00:13:12.020 not American.

00:13:13.180 Oof.

00:13:13.760 They really like soccer.

00:13:15.160 And this was true.

00:13:15.940 It's less true now, but it

00:13:16.820 was certainly true.

00:13:17.400 Five or ten years ago.

00:13:18.860 They love soccer precisely

00:13:20.840 because it's not American,

00:13:22.960 because it's a foreign 0.99

00:13:24.940 sport that we've slowly

00:13:26.720 adopted in recent years.

00:13:28.860 And that's one thing they

00:13:29.740 really like about it.

00:13:30.680 But even beyond it being

00:13:31.860 foreign of origin, I mean,

00:13:33.620 there's plenty of foreign

00:13:35.080 origin things that we like

00:13:36.380 and we make American.

00:13:37.980 The reason the left loves

00:13:39.320 soccer is because it's

00:13:40.300 about internationalism.

00:13:42.900 It's a sport that anybody

00:13:44.580 can play.

00:13:45.160 I mean, in the technical

00:13:46.480 aspects of the sport, it's

00:13:48.040 pretty lowest common

00:13:49.040 denominator.

00:13:49.760 You need a ball and you need

00:13:50.720 two goals and that's it.

00:13:52.640 You need a dirt patch or a

00:13:54.020 grass patch or an open field.

00:13:55.840 Everyone can play it.

00:13:57.260 This is why it's an

00:13:58.400 internationally popular game.

00:14:00.580 And beyond that, the highest

00:14:03.760 expression of soccer is not the

00:14:06.520 individual game at between New

00:14:08.980 York and Boston or between

00:14:11.320 American cities or American

00:14:12.980 States.

00:14:13.600 The highest expression of

00:14:14.880 soccer is what we just saw at

00:14:16.900 the international level, at the

00:14:18.460 World Cup.

00:14:19.840 And so in this way, it's a

00:14:21.820 little bit like the opposite of

00:14:23.000 baseball.

00:14:24.140 You know, in baseball, we have

00:14:25.000 the World Series and the World

00:14:26.600 Series doesn't really involve

00:14:28.840 anyone else from the rest of

00:14:29.820 the world.

00:14:30.260 You get a couple of teams in

00:14:31.100 Canada, maybe, but that's it.

00:14:33.220 The World Series is just America 0.66

00:14:35.180 because the U.S.

00:14:36.620 says we're the most important

00:14:37.840 thing in the world and we're

00:14:39.100 going to limit the World Series

00:14:39.980 just to American teams because

00:14:41.380 those are the only teams that

00:14:42.260 matter, plus, you know, like

00:14:43.920 the Blue Jays or something.

00:14:45.280 But with soccer, soccer

00:14:46.900 presents the United States as

00:14:48.740 just one nation among many.

00:14:51.100 It's like the U.N. of sports. 0.99

00:14:53.480 The U.N. is a ridiculous 0.98

00:14:54.600 concept. 0.96

00:14:55.620 It's the concept that all nations

00:14:57.020 get a seat at the table and we're

00:14:58.500 all basically equal.

00:15:00.260 But that's never been true in the

00:15:01.520 history of the world.

00:15:03.280 Not all nations are equal.

00:15:04.520 Not all nations are equally

00:15:05.620 important.

00:15:06.220 Not all nations are equally just.

00:15:08.520 The United States is the leader

00:15:09.760 of the world.

00:15:11.340 That's how our sports portray us

00:15:13.020 traditionally.

00:15:13.460 But the left loves soccer because

00:15:15.740 soccer is an equalizing sport.

00:15:18.220 Sure, there's Spain.

00:15:19.840 There's Kenya. 0.81

00:15:21.300 There's some country I've never

00:15:22.520 heard of.

00:15:23.020 And there's the United States.

00:15:24.000 And we're all basically equal.

00:15:27.220 The baseball version is right.

00:15:29.700 The United States is not just one

00:15:31.500 nation among many.

00:15:32.740 We are essentially different from

00:15:34.860 every other nation.

00:15:36.160 Our unique founding, our unique

00:15:37.780 history, our unique development

00:15:39.260 makes us incomparable.

00:15:41.580 We are actually a different

00:15:42.680 nation.

00:15:43.380 This is what American 0.54

00:15:44.300 exceptionalism is.

00:15:45.520 It's not just American chauvinism.

00:15:47.240 It's not just saying we're the

00:15:48.740 best all the time.

00:15:50.380 Sometimes it says that, but that's

00:15:51.560 not exclusively what it is.

00:15:53.260 What American exceptionalism is,

00:15:55.260 is it means that America is

00:15:57.900 exceptional.

00:15:58.800 It's an exception to the rule of

00:16:00.560 nations.

00:16:01.520 Now, I understand that many people,

00:16:04.880 many conservatives even, played

00:16:06.460 soccer as a kid.

00:16:08.000 Maybe they played soccer in

00:16:09.040 college or something.

00:16:10.900 I don't mean this as a personal

00:16:12.560 attack on you.

00:16:13.920 I did plenty of things in college

00:16:15.260 that I'm not proud of.

00:16:16.280 All right, maybe we'll do an

00:16:16.980 episode on that one day.

00:16:17.980 Maybe not.

00:16:18.520 It's a family program.

00:16:19.860 But you should not let your

00:16:22.100 nostalgia for playing something as

00:16:23.700 a kid or your feelings for it

00:16:25.940 get in the way of the facts about

00:16:29.880 this sport.

00:16:31.740 Because one of the biggest issues,

00:16:33.660 I mean, maybe this is what it

00:16:34.620 really gets down to, is that

00:16:36.780 soccer, as far as sports go, is

00:16:40.260 soft and simple.

00:16:42.380 It's certainly softer and it's

00:16:43.940 certainly simpler than other

00:16:44.920 sports, both mentally and

00:16:46.560 physically.

00:16:47.680 And a nation's sports reflect that

00:16:49.960 nation.

00:16:50.560 We've been talking now for a

00:16:51.460 couple of weeks about how sports

00:16:53.840 are patriotic activities.

00:16:55.300 This has been true since ancient

00:16:56.320 Greece.

00:16:57.320 The nation's games reflect

00:16:59.060 something about the nation.

00:17:00.080 And this is the fear.

00:17:00.920 I actually think I have some

00:17:03.300 objectivity on this because I

00:17:04.840 don't care about sports at all.

00:17:06.920 I don't have a personal dog in

00:17:08.480 this fight.

00:17:09.280 I like baseball well enough.

00:17:10.800 You know, I'm a Yankee fan, but

00:17:12.460 I don't watch every game of the

00:17:14.020 season.

00:17:14.500 I mean, if I'm in the cigar bar and

00:17:15.880 the game is on, I'll watch it.

00:17:17.500 I'll watch the postseason or when

00:17:19.040 games start to really matter.

00:17:20.260 But even that, I'm not totally

00:17:21.900 enthralled with.

00:17:22.780 And I think my disinterest in sports

00:17:24.660 actually gives me some objectivity

00:17:26.800 here and some perspective more than

00:17:29.480 if someone is a diehard fan of

00:17:31.560 some team or some sport.

00:17:32.920 I think that sometimes skews their

00:17:34.500 perspective.

00:17:35.900 Just consider, historically

00:17:37.220 speaking, which sports have been

00:17:40.580 the most popular in the U.S.

00:17:42.040 and what eras those sports were

00:17:44.580 popular in, what those eras looked

00:17:46.300 like for the country.

00:17:47.660 Look at boxing.

00:17:49.580 Boxing is mentally and physically

00:17:52.320 exhausting.

00:17:53.960 Boxing may be the noblest sport.

00:17:56.080 It is really a beautiful sport to

00:17:57.880 watch.

00:17:58.600 It is fully human.

00:18:00.180 It is really gritty.

00:18:01.420 I mean, it's just the extreme of

00:18:03.440 mental strategy and agility and, of

00:18:05.780 course, physical endurance.

00:18:08.200 When was boxing popular in the United

00:18:09.700 States?

00:18:11.000 The popularity of boxing in the U.S.

00:18:13.740 peaked between the 1920s and the

00:18:15.600 1950s.

00:18:17.300 That was right at the time that we

00:18:19.100 were back-to-back World War champs.

00:18:21.120 That was right at the time that

00:18:22.360 American industry was exploding.

00:18:24.760 That was right at the time that we

00:18:26.000 were coming to dominate the world.

00:18:28.880 We were an advancing nation and our

00:18:31.180 games and the games that we preferred

00:18:32.800 were reflecting that toughness, that

00:18:35.200 grit, those smarts, but that just

00:18:37.920 total manliness.

00:18:40.120 Then what sport came after that to

00:18:42.240 become America's favorite national

00:18:43.640 pastime?

00:18:44.460 That was baseball.

00:18:46.000 Baseball is also mentally and

00:18:48.140 physically demanding.

00:18:50.220 Not quite in the same way as boxing,

00:18:52.020 though.

00:18:52.080 They're very different sports.

00:18:53.180 What's mentally exhausting about

00:18:56.160 boxing is you're gauging the other

00:18:57.800 guy.

00:18:58.160 You're seeing what he's going to do.

00:18:59.300 You've got to be really light on

00:19:00.840 your feet so your brain is telling

00:19:02.740 your body where to go, what to

00:19:04.900 hold, how to strike.

00:19:06.400 In baseball, there's a zillion rules.

00:19:08.100 There's the infield fly rule.

00:19:09.680 There are a million different plays.

00:19:11.400 We're tracking statistics all the

00:19:13.360 time in baseball.

00:19:14.620 Now, it's also physically demanding.

00:19:16.520 Again, not in the same way you're not

00:19:17.620 getting punched in the face unless

00:19:18.800 you're batting against Roger

00:19:20.120 Clemens or something, but you've got

00:19:22.920 a lot of precision that's required

00:19:25.020 of you.

00:19:25.880 It takes a keen political or

00:19:29.240 political physical precision to

00:19:31.720 pitch the ball properly, to know

00:19:33.860 which pitch to throw, to figure out

00:19:35.840 what sign you're getting from the

00:19:36.920 catcher, to get it right in the

00:19:39.120 strike zone, or maybe not.

00:19:40.760 Maybe to get it takes a lot of

00:19:42.280 precision to bat.

00:19:43.520 You've got a 90 mile an hour fastball

00:19:44.960 coming at you.

00:19:46.000 It takes a lot of physical precision.

00:19:48.180 Same thing with fielding.

00:19:49.200 You've got to know exactly,

00:19:51.420 regardless of what happens, if this

00:19:53.300 guy goes there, I'm going to throw 0.96

00:19:54.300 it here.

00:19:54.940 If that guy's going to be the cutoff,

00:19:56.200 but he starts to run from third, I've

00:19:57.360 got to throw it home.

00:19:58.660 It's very precise and complex.

00:20:02.660 This was the most popular sport among

00:20:04.500 Americans from 1948 to 1960, according

00:20:08.640 to various surveys.

00:20:10.460 This was at precisely the moment after

00:20:12.460 the Second World War that we were

00:20:14.040 constructing the world order.

00:20:15.620 This was at precisely the moment that

00:20:17.140 we were managing the entire world.

00:20:19.240 We were, and we were also staving off

00:20:21.580 Soviet communism.

00:20:23.460 This is as new independence movements

00:20:25.420 are happening.

00:20:26.080 Nationalist movements are happening

00:20:27.220 around the world.

00:20:27.940 We were managing new nations, entering

00:20:30.040 the system of nation states, managing

00:20:32.400 independence, nurturing these

00:20:34.420 movements, protecting them sometimes

00:20:36.240 from excesses and from threats.

00:20:38.860 Highly precise time in America, highly

00:20:42.180 technical time, but still, still

00:20:44.140 physically demanding.

00:20:45.840 Then what happened after the 1960s?

00:20:48.240 According to all the surveys, the top

00:20:50.340 sport in America became football.

00:20:52.300 Football is highly strategic.

00:20:55.440 Football also requires brute force.

00:20:58.260 Since 1972, I think it is, football has

00:21:01.200 been ranked the top American sport.

00:21:03.840 And what do we see in our national

00:21:05.140 policy at that time?

00:21:06.480 We see a policy of more or less brute

00:21:09.820 force.

00:21:10.860 We see a more imperial foreign policy.

00:21:13.020 I think it was a justified foreign 1.00

00:21:14.340 policy in that we were staving off

00:21:16.180 Soviet expansionism, but it was a 0.92

00:21:18.420 foreign policy, certainly, that was

00:21:19.940 less nuanced than we saw in the early

00:21:21.960 20th century or in the 19th century.

00:21:24.860 Even forget about the foreign field

00:21:26.760 in domestic politics.

00:21:28.060 You had a domestic politics of brute

00:21:30.240 force.

00:21:31.180 All of a sudden, you had violent clashes

00:21:32.640 on the streets.

00:21:33.740 People are assassinating presidents.

00:21:35.560 People are holding professors hostage

00:21:37.820 at Cornell University.

00:21:39.220 You had the left with its new mantra.

00:21:41.320 The personal is the political.

00:21:43.340 The obliteration of this important and

00:21:45.460 nuanced but highly important distinction

00:21:49.240 between the personal realm of personal

00:21:51.500 relationships and behavior and the

00:21:53.360 public realm of politics.

00:21:55.700 Before that, there was a sort of

00:21:57.860 genteel time when you could be friends

00:22:01.160 with someone who had a different

00:22:02.720 political point of view.

00:22:04.020 Ever since the 60s and 70s, that has

00:22:06.200 become less and less popular because the

00:22:09.040 left has embraced that idea that the

00:22:11.040 political is personal and political

00:22:13.640 differences have to lead to personal

00:22:16.200 differences.

00:22:17.680 That's the era of identity politics.

00:22:19.660 That's the era of a less reasoned

00:22:22.060 politics.

00:22:23.660 Now we have soccer on the rise.

00:22:27.060 What does that say about the country?

00:22:29.220 It says that now, in 2019, the U.S.

00:22:32.580 likes things that are simple, that are

00:22:34.760 safe, and that are foreign.

00:22:36.620 The country doesn't like itself as much,

00:22:39.680 doesn't like its own traditions as much.

00:22:41.540 We see this reflected in a ton of public

00:22:43.560 polling.

00:22:45.000 The percentage of Americans now who say

00:22:46.480 they're extremely proud to be Americans

00:22:47.900 is plummeting.

00:22:49.260 And among Democrats and the left who

00:22:50.960 disproportionately like soccer, that

00:22:52.820 number is at 22 percent who say they're

00:22:55.300 extremely proud to be Americans.

00:22:57.240 They don't like it.

00:22:58.060 We had the last Democrat president, Barack

00:22:59.960 Obama.

00:23:00.600 He didn't say, I want America to live up

00:23:03.060 to her ideals.

00:23:03.740 That's not how he launched his campaign.

00:23:06.600 In 2008, he said, I want to fundamentally

00:23:08.360 transform America.

00:23:10.220 He liked things that are different than

00:23:12.640 the American tradition.

00:23:13.760 You've got to obliterate some of the

00:23:14.940 American traditions in order to

00:23:16.900 fundamentally transform it.

00:23:19.300 That is not a good sign.

00:23:21.540 And it actually has very little to do

00:23:24.560 whether you personally like soccer or

00:23:26.580 you grew up playing soccer.

00:23:28.040 And I'm not sure, really, that you can

00:23:29.960 change very much of it.

00:23:31.000 I mean, people are going to like whatever

00:23:33.600 sport they're going to like, but it does

00:23:35.300 reflect something about the country.

00:23:38.160 I mean, now there are a lot of people who

00:23:40.060 don't even want to look at boxing.

00:23:42.620 There are a lot of people who say it's

00:23:43.740 barbaric.

00:23:44.540 It's too awful to people's heads or

00:23:46.720 something.

00:23:47.740 Even football.

00:23:48.540 We need to put more padding on them.

00:23:50.020 Even baseball.

00:23:50.800 We need to make baseball.

00:23:51.680 We need to change baseball.

00:23:53.120 We need to add the instant replay.

00:23:56.940 We need to change aspects of the game.

00:23:58.680 That tells you something about where we

00:24:01.920 are.

00:24:02.400 Now, what's interesting at this moment is

00:24:04.340 at the same time that you have the rise

00:24:05.640 of soccer, you also have the rise of

00:24:07.540 UFC, which is brutal.

00:24:09.220 I mean, that's boxing without any of the

00:24:10.640 rules.

00:24:11.520 It's a much more brute force activity.

00:24:14.900 I think what that shows you is when you've

00:24:16.760 got two very different sports, both on the

00:24:20.080 rise at the same time, you're seeing a

00:24:21.860 polarization of the country.

00:24:23.460 And this is reflected in our politics.

00:24:24.920 It's reflected in electoral patterns and

00:24:27.060 public opinion surveys.

00:24:28.640 The conservatives are getting more

00:24:29.760 conservative.

00:24:30.640 The leftists are getting more left wing

00:24:32.500 and the nation is coming apart.

00:24:34.440 And when a nation doesn't have a shared

00:24:35.740 sports, when we can't all share together

00:24:38.000 in our sports, that too reflects something

00:24:40.560 about the nation, which is that we don't

00:24:42.020 have very much that we can share at all.

00:24:45.020 When you've got the captain of the American

00:24:47.920 national team, the women's soccer team, who's

00:24:50.580 supposed to be representing the nation on a

00:24:53.980 foreign field, when you have her criticizing,

00:24:58.360 viciously criticizing the American president

00:25:00.160 and worse than that, protesting the American

00:25:03.520 flag, the symbol of the country itself, you've

00:25:07.940 lost something.

00:25:08.860 If you can't even agree that you like the

00:25:11.560 country, we don't have very much in common

00:25:14.140 anymore.

00:25:14.500 That's a great fear.

00:25:15.540 And it's why this is actually why conservatives

00:25:17.900 hate soccer.

00:25:19.560 I know that some conservatives might like soccer,

00:25:21.940 but it's because I think they like it in a

00:25:27.120 personal way.

00:25:27.960 I don't think any conservatives like soccer

00:25:30.380 ideologically, but that's why sometimes it

00:25:32.400 requires someone who doesn't care for sports

00:25:33.980 generally to look in and say, what do the sports

00:25:36.480 tell us about the country?

00:25:37.820 This is not a good sign, but this is the good

00:25:41.680 news.

00:25:42.020 All hope is not lost because President Trump

00:25:44.780 had his tank filled Fourth of July parade and it

00:25:48.240 was a great success.

00:25:49.660 Yes, here is President Trump giving the introduction

00:25:53.120 to his really quite, quite excellent speech from

00:25:57.520 the parade.

00:25:58.920 The First Lady and I wish each and every one of

00:26:01.940 you a happy Independence Day on this truly historic

00:26:05.420 Fourth of July.

00:26:09.840 Today we come together as one nation with this very

00:26:13.840 special salute to America.

00:26:16.340 We celebrate our history, our people and the heroes

00:26:19.600 who proudly defend our flag.

00:26:21.900 The brave men and women of the United States military,

00:26:26.440 the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines,

00:26:30.220 and very soon the Space Force.

00:26:32.840 I want you to know that we're going to be back on the moon

00:26:39.680 very soon and someday soon we will plant the American flag

00:26:43.760 on Mars.

00:26:45.720 It's happening, Gene.

00:26:46.940 It's happening.

00:26:48.760 Americans love our freedom and no one will ever take it

00:26:53.160 away from us.

00:26:54.380 We love our freedom.

00:26:58.200 We love being an underdog.

00:26:59.380 We like seeing all the odds against us and we say you're

00:27:01.780 not going to take it away.

00:27:02.620 That's what Independence Day is all about.

00:27:05.540 You know, people call Trump a narcissist and obviously he

00:27:08.480 puts his name on everything.

00:27:09.500 He brags a lot.

00:27:10.960 This was the least narcissistic political speech,

00:27:14.540 presidential speech certainly, that I've seen in recent

00:27:16.840 memory.

00:27:17.640 This speech was actually all about America, about what

00:27:20.880 makes America America, about how to make America great

00:27:23.680 again.

00:27:24.600 And it wasn't only about the past.

00:27:27.660 It wasn't only about nostalgia.

00:27:29.200 They say nostalgia is history after a few drinks.

00:27:31.740 It was about really engaging with our past.

00:27:35.340 While the left wants to erase our past, Trump was really

00:27:39.100 engaging with it because our past tells us about our future.

00:27:43.420 The way that we understand our past, the way that we relate

00:27:46.060 to our past, is going to tell us how we're going to move our

00:27:49.780 country into the future.

00:27:50.640 He gets to that and with a great show of strength, which we'll

00:27:54.520 get to in a second.

00:27:55.160 But first, I've got to say goodbye to Facebook and YouTube and

00:27:57.120 really, really awful news coming out of the Democratic 2020

00:28:01.020 primary.

00:28:02.260 It seems that one of our favorite candidates may already be

00:28:06.000 dropping out of the race.

00:28:07.460 We will celebrate that candidate's wonderful and hilarious

00:28:11.500 contributions to 2020.

00:28:13.340 Then we will get to the snipe fight between AOC and Nancy Pelosi.

00:28:17.780 But you've got to go to dailywire.com, $10 a month, $100 for

00:28:21.300 an annual membership.

00:28:22.300 You get me, you get the Andrew Klavan show, you get the Ben

00:28:24.500 Shapiro show, you get the Matt Wall show, you get to ask

00:28:26.800 questions in the mailbag.

00:28:28.080 You get another kingdom.

00:28:30.260 You get to ask questions backstage.

00:28:31.760 You get everything.

00:28:33.680 Most importantly, you get the Leftist Tears Tumblr.

00:28:37.380 Now, if you didn't have the Leftist Tears Tumblr on the 4th of July,

00:28:39.980 as the tanks were going down in D.C., you're probably no longer

00:28:43.780 with us, so you have my prayers and your family, I send them

00:28:48.520 condolences.

00:28:49.460 All the rest of you, get another Tumblr.

00:28:51.080 You're going to need even more.

00:28:53.180 Go to dailywire.com.

00:28:54.040 We'll be right back.

00:28:54.580 So, after talking about what makes America, America,

00:29:08.420 President Trump then moves into a show of American strength,

00:29:12.180 celebrating what the tanks represent.

00:29:14.040 The tanks aren't just blunt force.

00:29:15.720 They represent our military.

00:29:17.680 They're a symbol of our military and a tool of our military.

00:29:19.940 And all the great men and women who fight for our liberties

00:29:23.080 and our political traditions and our way of life

00:29:25.320 so that we don't have to, so that we can continue to have it.

00:29:27.840 And he did it beautifully.

00:29:29.360 This is our incredible airman today who wield the most powerful

00:29:32.440 weapon systems on the planet Earth.

00:29:36.540 For over 65 years, no enemy Air Force has managed to kill

00:29:41.080 a single American soldier because the skies belong

00:29:46.920 to the United States of America.

00:29:49.940 No enemy has attacked our people without being met by a roar of thunder

00:29:59.700 and the awesome might of those who bid farewell to Earth

00:30:03.420 and soar into the wild blue yonder.

00:30:08.680 Beautiful.

00:30:09.420 I mean, when was the last time you heard that phrase?

00:30:12.480 Off we go into the wild blue yonder.

00:30:14.440 It's like something you might have heard 20 years ago,

00:30:16.700 but politicians don't talk about it anymore.

00:30:18.460 And Trump did.

00:30:19.840 And it serves a real strategic purpose.

00:30:21.740 What it is is a defiance of those who would do us harm.

00:30:25.540 This is why this wasn't a gratuitous parade.

00:30:28.820 I mean, this was why it wasn't even just a sort of nationally indulgent parade.

00:30:32.620 We're sending a message.

00:30:34.620 Don't mess with us.

00:30:35.760 This is why FDR had tanks at his inauguration.

00:30:38.380 It's why Eisenhower had tanks.

00:30:39.820 It's why JFK had a big fat nuclear weapon, big fat missile on his tanks at his inauguration.

00:30:48.560 Because we want to tell people that we are prepared for war.

00:30:52.140 Every lesson of history tells us that the way to ensure peace is to prepare for war.

00:30:57.400 And this seems ironic, but weakness invites aggression.

00:31:01.540 If you don't show that you are ready to turn the aggressor nation into pure glass, 0.94

00:31:08.680 then you are inviting their aggression.

00:31:11.440 We don't want to use them.

00:31:12.260 President Trump has been basically the most peaceful president in my lifetime.

00:31:16.800 I think certainly the most peaceful president in my lifetime.

00:31:20.340 But why is it?

00:31:21.500 It's because, in part, he's built up the American military.

00:31:24.640 He's unpredictable on the foreign front.

00:31:26.760 And so the would-be aggressors don't want to aggress too much.

00:31:30.500 But it's not just about the tanks.

00:31:32.600 The tanks, the strength, our great historical feats show us

00:31:36.080 the relationship between our past and our future.

00:31:40.100 Here's President Trump.

00:31:41.180 As long as we stay true to our course,

00:31:44.360 as long as we remember our great history,

00:31:46.740 as long as we never, ever stop fighting for a better future,

00:31:52.340 then there will be nothing that America can not do.

00:32:00.880 USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!

00:32:08.880 This was Reagan-esque.

00:32:11.880 I mean, this was a speech you could easily hear coming out of Reagan's mouth.

00:32:15.240 Trump is not exactly like Reagan.

00:32:17.520 He's like the 2019 reality TV version of Ronald Reagan.

00:32:20.960 Ronald Reagan came from a more genteel time.

00:32:23.500 But this speech was Reagan-esque.

00:32:25.360 And it was about the future.

00:32:27.700 That's what the left doesn't understand.

00:32:29.120 When you talk about the past,

00:32:31.700 you don't have to just leave it in the past.

00:32:33.560 You can use it to show a way to our future.

00:32:37.600 And listen to how that speech ended.

00:32:39.920 You know, you have two ostensibly patriotic events.

00:32:42.520 It's the U.S. women's national soccer team winning the World Cup

00:32:45.500 and this Fourth of July parade.

00:32:48.060 They're both supposed to be patriotic celebrations.

00:32:50.920 And at one, you hear USA! USA!

00:32:53.240 That's at the Trump parade, at the Fourth of July parade.

00:32:55.800 At the other one, you hear F Trump! 0.96

00:32:58.120 F Trump! 0.99

00:32:59.160 I'm embarrassed to be an American. 0.99

00:33:03.020 That's patriotism that's been perverted.

00:33:05.500 It's the opposite of patriotism.

00:33:07.520 And this Fourth of July parade was a huge success.

00:33:09.280 I hope we do it every year, because the reason the left opposed it a lot, by the way,

00:33:14.040 is that there were these two studies that came out about seven or eight years ago.

00:33:17.860 One out of Harvard, the other I forget where.

00:33:20.060 And the Harvard one showed that if you attend Fourth of July parades as a kid,

00:33:25.900 you are much more likely to vote Republican later in your life.

00:33:29.480 There's something about having a memory, a nostalgia,

00:33:32.140 a childhood delight of love for your country that makes you more conservative.

00:33:41.160 We see that if you love your country more, you're going to be more conservative.

00:33:44.500 If you don't like your country, then you're going to want to fundamentally transform it,

00:33:48.440 like Barack Obama said.

00:33:49.620 There was another study that showed that even just looking at the American flag,

00:33:54.600 a single exposure made you more likely to identify as a conservative,

00:33:58.520 and the effects lasted for eight months.

00:34:00.620 Which is why, from a tactical point of view,

00:34:04.720 it's why Colin Kaepernick doesn't want the Betsy Ross flag on the shoes.

00:34:08.600 It's why the left is now trying to turn the symbol of our country into a hate symbol,

00:34:13.020 because they want to portray American history, American character,

00:34:17.300 the American essence as something hateful and awful and bigoted and terrible

00:34:20.760 that we have to totally do away with and transform so that we can have their utopian solutions.

00:34:26.700 That's the difference.

00:34:27.660 You've got to pick a side.

00:34:28.460 You've got to pick the side of your country.

00:34:31.160 And seemingly trivial things, like sneakers or a flag waving or a parade or the sports you like

00:34:39.240 or whatever, the team you support, these things seem trivial, but they make up the culture.

00:34:44.500 And what we know from Andrew Breitbart, the patron saint of Hollywood conservatives,

00:34:48.400 is that politics comes from the culture.

00:34:50.520 It's downstream of culture.

00:34:53.100 And if we have a culture that hates the country, we're going to have a politics that hates the country, too,

00:34:58.360 that undoes so much of what we love about this country.

00:35:01.040 Now, we've got really bad news on the political front, turning to the 2020 race.

00:35:06.580 This may be a breaking story.

00:35:08.180 It might be happening right now.

00:35:10.080 There are news reports that Eric Swalwell may be dropping out of the race.

00:35:14.800 And this is especially disappointing because Eric Swalwell assures me that he is me and he is you and he is everybody.

00:35:23.000 So it means we all dropped out of the race.

00:35:25.460 350 million people dropping out of a race is going to seriously narrow it down.

00:35:29.980 300, what is it, 320, 330 million, something like that.

00:35:33.100 It's going to really narrow it down, though.

00:35:35.000 The press release that came out was Swalwell to hold news conference Monday campaign headquarters.

00:35:39.900 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, Congressman Eric Swalwell, will hold a news conference Monday.

00:35:45.060 He just canceled a campaign swing through New Hampshire.

00:35:47.680 He's currently not even registering on the real clear politics polling average of the top 20 Democratic candidates.

00:35:53.140 He was one of my favorite 2020 Democrats, not only because he was me, but because he's more a parody of a presidential candidate than an actual candidate.

00:36:04.380 You know, he launched his campaign on television threatening to use nuclear weapons against lawful gun owners.

00:36:11.140 He then stole the line from that failed Delaware Senate candidate, Christine O'Donnell, who was an accused witch who made her campaign slogan.

00:36:19.840 I'm you.

00:36:21.200 That's what Swalwell stole.

00:36:23.140 Before he goes, which inevitably he will do.

00:36:25.940 Here's just a quick trip down memory lane with Eric Swalwell.

00:36:29.700 I will be bold without the bold.

00:36:33.300 I've listened to some of my colleagues, Mr. Glover, tell you how much they like your movies.

00:36:43.280 And I have to say, we didn't come here to talk about your movies.

00:36:49.320 We came here to talk about your activism.

00:36:52.020 I like your activism.

00:36:53.840 I also like your movies, but I want to give you a chance because I haven't heard the other side other than tell you that they like their movies, that they want to hear what you have to say on this important issue.

00:37:04.520 The economy is not the unemployment rate. 0.99

00:37:07.320 Donald Trump was bold, but a lot of what he was bold about was just bullshit. 0.96

00:37:10.560 And the economy is not the stock market. 1.00

00:37:13.760 It's you.

00:37:14.500 I've got just under $100,000 in student loan debt today.

00:37:18.040 Go big.

00:37:18.600 When I'm not changing diapers, I'm changing Washington.

00:37:24.200 Most of the time, the diapers smell better. 0.98

00:37:27.040 Well, a white guy who doesn't see other identities or understand other experiences should not be president. 0.98

00:37:32.520 I do. 0.75

00:37:33.760 And, you know, where there would be gaps in my knowledge or my experience, I will pass the mic to people, you know, who do have that experience.

00:37:42.100 It seems the time to pass the mic has come.

00:37:45.260 I hope the reports are not true.

00:37:46.760 Maybe he'll linger on another few weeks.

00:37:50.620 But in any case, Eric Swalwell, we hardly knew ye.

00:37:53.900 The question now is whether the race will narrow very quickly.

00:37:57.840 Obviously, 320 million people dropping out.

00:38:00.080 You know, that's a big deal.

00:38:00.800 But the question is, of the 25 or however many are still in it, will it narrow very quickly or will people hang around for a long time?

00:38:08.220 In 2016, Scott Walker got out very early and virtually no one else did.

00:38:13.500 So Scott Walker, the Wisconsin governor, he was a leading candidate.

00:38:18.320 The Koch brothers loved him.

00:38:19.480 I mean, he was a serious candidate, very good governor.

00:38:22.040 And his logic for getting out of that race early was that all of the people who weren't going to win it needed to get out to deny Trump the nomination.

00:38:29.660 Because Trump had this divide and conquer strategy and he was going to get a plurality of votes in all these different states and then win the nomination.

00:38:36.280 So my question for the Democrats is, how did that work out?

00:38:42.840 Scott Walker dropped out.

00:38:44.840 Nobody else dropped out.

00:38:46.780 The thing Walker was trying to prevent ultimately happened.

00:38:51.380 Nobody is motivated by altruism in presidential politics.

00:38:55.960 Nobody ever.

00:38:57.120 It doesn't work.

00:38:57.840 If Swalwell can't qualify for the debates, then I guess it makes sense for him to get out because his campaign at that point is essentially over.

00:39:05.520 There's no way for him to raise any money, have a breakout moment.

00:39:08.100 It's done.

00:39:08.860 But for candidates who do qualify for the debates, they should stay in it as long as possible.

00:39:14.920 As a kind of broader thing for the whole Democratic Party, it would be better for the party if 22 of them dropped out right now.

00:39:22.400 But for the individual candidates, it's not better for any one of them to drop out right now.

00:39:29.500 And because people are not motivated by altruism, Kamala Harris is not motivated by helping Joe Biden get the nomination.

00:39:35.720 There's really no reason for them to do it.

00:39:37.780 No upside to getting out.

00:39:39.120 No clear front runner.

00:39:40.340 Lots of opportunity for publicity and self-promotion, which is all that half of them are in it for anyway.

00:39:45.840 Speaking of useless presidential campaigns that are only being used for shameless self-promotion, President Trump may get a primary opponent, or if not a primary opponent, a general election opponent who was at least a Republican.

00:40:03.460 This is Congressman Justin Amash, who announced last Thursday that he's leaving the GOP.

00:40:10.320 Amash is the congressman who called for Trump's impeachment, so the Democrats all of a sudden have a strange new respect for him.

00:40:18.720 He's not really a Republican anyway.

00:40:20.440 I mean, now he's officially not a Republican, but he never really was.

00:40:24.160 He was a libertarian who realizes that now he has no future in the GOP, and so he's leaving.

00:40:30.920 And what do we do in American politics when you fail?

00:40:34.380 You fail upwards and you run for president.

00:40:36.000 So he's been signaling for a while he might run, and with Jake Tapper over the weekend, he's not ruling it out.

00:40:43.280 What about the possibility of your running for president as a libertarian or under some other ticket?

00:40:51.400 I asked you about that four or five months ago, and you didn't rule it out.

00:40:55.100 Is it possible you would run for president?

00:40:57.120 I still wouldn't rule anything like that out.

00:40:58.780 I believe that I have to use my skills, my public influence, where it serves the country best.

00:41:07.540 And I believe I have to defend the Constitution in whichever way works best.

00:41:11.660 And if that means doing something else, then I do that.

00:41:13.800 But I feel confident about running my district.

00:41:17.780 I feel a close tie to my community.

00:41:20.320 I care a lot about my community.

00:41:22.120 I want to represent them in Congress.

00:41:23.560 When do you think you'll make a decision about a possible presidential run?

00:41:26.180 Well, it's something people talk about all the time.

00:41:29.040 It's not something that's right on my radar right now, so I couldn't tell you.

00:41:32.760 Okay, so Justin Amash possibly getting into the presidential race is about as consequential as Eric Swalwell possibly getting out of the presidential race.

00:41:41.460 It just does nothing.

00:41:42.860 It means nothing.

00:41:43.800 And I actually kind of like some of Justin Amash's positions.

00:41:47.540 I actually like many of Justin Amash's positions.

00:41:50.620 He's pro-life.

00:41:51.620 Good.

00:41:52.220 He's anti-spending.

00:41:53.420 Good.

00:41:53.820 He's a deregulator.

00:41:55.600 Good.

00:41:56.180 Good on health care.

00:41:57.380 Okay, I like all of those things.

00:41:59.360 He's also bad on a lot of issues.

00:42:01.660 He's bad on the military.

00:42:03.220 He wants a weaker military.

00:42:04.420 He wants to defund it.

00:42:05.720 He's bad on congressional redistricting.

00:42:08.140 He wants to set up some independent commission to deal with districting, which is obviously just empowering bureaucrats and taking away our ability for self-governance.

00:42:19.420 Naive at best and profoundly harmful at worst.

00:42:22.720 He's weak on border security, very weak on border security.

00:42:25.780 He's weak on drugs.

00:42:27.040 He's completely weak on marriage.

00:42:28.520 He has no idea about anything in the cultural arena.

00:42:31.420 And he's a bit weak on other social issues as well.

00:42:36.040 Justin Amash is a libertarian.

00:42:37.860 He's not a conservative.

00:42:38.820 This is really not about Donald Trump.

00:42:42.700 Trump kind of was the straw that broke the camel's back for him because he personally really doesn't like Donald Trump.

00:42:48.640 But this is an issue more broadly.

00:42:52.200 Over the past several decades, the GOP has become a home for both conservatives and libertarians.

00:42:58.380 Conservatives and libertarians have a lot in common, but they are different views of the world.

00:43:02.960 And particularly, the GOP is a home for conservatives.

00:43:06.300 The conservatives have far more influence than the libertarians, as well they should.

00:43:10.620 If Justin Amash doesn't like that, he's welcome to leave, as he's doing right now.

00:43:16.240 But he should realize a slim, slim minority of Americans agree with Justin Amashism.

00:43:24.360 A very slim minority of Americans are even broad, even vaguely libertarian.

00:43:30.900 You know, the kind of fiscal, conservative, social, liberal idea.

00:43:34.920 Polls put it somewhere around 4%.

00:43:36.620 No political party can cater to that group and remain viable.

00:43:42.480 I've had billionaires tell me that the GOP should become socially liberal and fiscally conservative, and we'd win every election.

00:43:51.480 At all of the elite universities and elite parties and groups like that, people always love this.

00:43:58.880 They say, I'm fiscally conservative, but socially liberal.

00:44:01.640 I don't care anything about the culture.

00:44:03.720 I don't really care about the moral law, but I want to keep more of my money.

00:44:07.720 And they think, because they're in a bubble, that this is a way forward.

00:44:12.900 They think this is the majority of America that believes in this.

00:44:16.180 Nobody does.

00:44:16.820 It's only elite people.

00:44:19.360 It's only these self-appointed elite people who feel this way.

00:44:22.920 So, Justin Amash has made his principled decision.

00:44:26.780 That's fine.

00:44:27.760 Now, Amash and his principles will fade into political obscurity.

00:44:31.580 What this shows us is that the big challenge to Trump is no challenge at all.

00:44:39.060 Remember, they said Kasich was going to run against Trump.

00:44:41.660 That's never going to happen.

00:44:43.160 Nobody cares.

00:44:43.900 Doesn't matter.

00:44:44.420 Barely makes the news on CNN.

00:44:46.120 There is relatively little division among the GOP, but there is lots of division among Democrats.

00:44:51.520 And we saw this over the weekend with AOC and Pelosi sniping at each other.

00:44:55.200 AOC tweeted out, quote, I don't believe it was a good idea for Dems to blindly trust the Trump administration when so many kids have died in their custody.

00:45:02.960 It's a huge mistake.

00:45:04.100 This administration also refuses to hand over documents to Congress on the whereabouts of families.

00:45:08.980 People's lives are getting bargained.

00:45:11.080 And for what?

00:45:12.460 So this is a shot right at Democrat congressional leadership, right at Pelosi.

00:45:16.200 What does Pelosi say?

00:45:17.220 All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world, but they didn't have any following.

00:45:24.200 They're four people, and that's how many votes they got.

00:45:27.560 She's talking about the fresh faces.

00:45:30.000 She's talking about Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, AOC.

00:45:34.160 That's who she's alluding to here.

00:45:36.160 And she says they didn't get a lot of votes.

00:45:37.840 And you're right.

00:45:38.460 What you're seeing is this breakdown of the Democratic Party, which is a consequence of their moral universe.

00:45:43.460 In the fantasy moral universe of the left, national borders are wrong.

00:45:47.520 America is evil.

00:45:48.700 The flag is a symbol of oppression rather than freedom. 0.99

00:45:51.560 Men are evil, except when men are women, because gender is a social construct. 0.99

00:45:55.180 And all races are wonderful, except white people who are really bad, except race is also a social construct. 0.99

00:46:00.380 And all sexual preferences are to be celebrated, except for heterosexuality, which doesn't even exist in the first place. 1.00

00:46:06.200 And babies should be murdered after they've been born. 0.99

00:46:08.680 That's the fantasy moral universe. 0.99

00:46:10.780 Democrats have had a fantasy moral universe for decades.

00:46:13.300 It's not AOC's fault.

00:46:14.820 JFK would quote George Bernard Shaw's play and say, some people see things that are and ask why.

00:46:20.300 I dream things that never were and ask why not.

00:46:23.260 What he forgets to mention is this is the voice of the serpent tempting Eve in the garden.

00:46:28.440 The line he's quoting from that Shaw play is about the Garden of Eden.

00:46:31.960 It's called Back to Methuselah.

00:46:33.980 It's a perverse moral idea.

00:46:36.200 And the trouble for the Democrats is no one in reality actually believes that stuff.

00:46:40.980 They only believe it on Twitter.

00:46:42.480 The fantasy world.

00:46:44.060 Twitter is not real life, I'm telling you.

00:46:47.480 They've bought their own fantasies.

00:46:49.760 AOC got old.

00:46:50.660 Do you know how many votes AOC got to ensure that she would get elected to Congress?

00:46:55.260 She got 14,000 votes.

00:46:57.220 In the district, how many registered voters are there?

00:47:00.360 Something like a quarter of a million?

00:47:03.140 She only got 14,000 because she was in this primary.

00:47:05.980 No one was voting in the primary.

00:47:07.520 A small number of people put her in.

00:47:09.120 Once she got the Democrat nomination, she was guaranteed to win the general.

00:47:11.780 She has no actual constituency, but she has 4.7 million Twitter followers.

00:47:18.760 So she has no hard political leverage. 0.98

00:47:21.280 She has lots of social media clout.

00:47:23.620 That is what we're seeing happen here.

00:47:27.020 The world of hardcore real-time politics and the world of virtual politics and virtue signaling.

00:47:35.880 We're seeing that play out at the presidential level.

00:47:37.920 And currently, as you look at the policy positions of every one of those candidates,

00:47:41.600 the hard-left fantasy world is winning on all of these issues.

00:47:47.220 Health care for illegal aliens. 1.00

00:47:48.880 Tax the world into oblivion.

00:47:50.140 $93 trillion spending.

00:47:51.980 The sun monster is the biggest threat.

00:47:53.680 The virtual fantasy world is winning.

00:47:56.060 Bad news for Democrats.

00:47:57.200 Pelosi sees it.

00:47:57.980 But unfortunately, I think for the Democrats, their primary voters do not.

00:48:02.440 Works for me.

00:48:03.060 We've got a lot more to get to, but we'll have to do it tomorrow.

00:48:05.260 In the meantime, I'm Michael Knowles.

00:48:06.300 This is The Michael Knowles Show.

00:48:07.600 See you tomorrow.

00:48:33.060 Production assistant is Nick Sheehan.

00:48:34.640 The Michael Knowles Show is a Daily Wire production.

00:48:37.160 Copyright Daily Wire 2019.

00:48:39.060 Hey, guys.

00:48:39.700 Over on the Matt Wall Show today, the U.S. women's team won the World Cup, as maybe you heard.

00:48:43.880 Now they're saying they deserve equal pay, that they're underpaid.
