00:14:26.100 Duke? Obama didn't get that treatment. He didn't get that treatment with Farrakhan. Donald Trump,

00:14:35.360 but you do see that with Louis Farrakhan and Barack Obama. He met him, he posed for a picture,

00:17:28.200 child from parents addicted to opioids. Corporal Matthew Bradford, who lost his sight and both legs

00:17:34.220 on a deployment in Iraq. First blind W amputee to re-enlist in the Marine Corps ever. Staff Sergeant

00:17:40.980 Justin Peck, he saved a fellow American service member from an IED in Syria. Preston Sharp, he's a

00:17:47.180 young boy who organized the placement of American flags and red carnations on more than 40,000 soldiers'

00:17:53.120 graves. Steve Stobe and Sandy Keplinger, small business owners. How long has it been since we saw small

00:17:59.280 business owners lauded in particular at one of these speeches? Corey Adams, a welder, a worker at Stobe's

00:18:06.180 company. Four parents whose daughters were killed tragically by the gang MS-13. Celestino Martinez, an ICE

00:18:14.240 officer who hunts down those gangs. Compare this to Barack Obama's. In 2016, Obama didn't invite anybody.

00:26:09.960 half a century, maybe longer. Clearly, they wouldn't stand up for America. They wouldn't

00:26:15.320 stand up for the flag. This is weird. People say Donald Trump is so weird. It's so strange he's

00:26:20.720 president. Trump is like perfectly normal compared to these people who are sitting for their own

00:26:25.480 country. It's so disgusting and outrageous. All of that does show the strength of intersectionality.

00:26:32.920 We've heard this term bandied about. Intersectionality is defined as the interconnected nature of social

00:26:37.940 categorizations such as race, class, and gender as they apply to a given individual or group

00:26:42.980 regarded as creating overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage.

00:26:49.020 The word was invented in 1989 by a feminist named Kimberley Crenshaw. It's such a fake term,

00:26:55.900 by the way, that when I was writing this out, my word processor put a little squiggly underneath it.

00:26:59.600 That's how new this is. My word isn't that old, you know? But this is the strength of

00:27:04.200 intersectionality. So you saw the illegal aliens were a big political issue last night. Nobody would

00:27:09.960 care about illegal aliens if not for intersectionality. I'm old enough to have worked on political

00:27:14.460 campaigns when it was a given on both sides of the aisle that playing to illegal aliens doesn't

00:27:20.960 work for anybody because we don't want people breaking our laws and illegal aliens theoretically

00:27:25.740 can't vote. Obviously, Democrats are doing their best to make sure that they can, especially in my

00:27:30.160 home state of California. But obviously, it makes perfect sense that no one would care about illegal

00:27:35.220 aliens as a political matter because we're the voters. By definition, if only people who are not

00:27:42.520 illegal aliens can vote, you wouldn't play to that except for intersectionality. What intersectionality

00:27:46.960 does is create this hostile, toxic, divisive world in which you are convinced, you are brainwashed

00:27:55.740 into imagining oppression everywhere, everywhere among every person except for whatever contrivance

00:28:04.140 sits at the top. Probably in this version of the culture is straight white men who think that

00:28:10.620 they're men. But if you're a man who thinks that he's a woman, that's okay. You get to go. Then

00:28:14.380 you're one of the good people. And the only bad people are the straight white men who think they're

00:28:17.880 men right up at the top. And in that way, all of the division that you would have among different

00:28:22.520 groups, say, for instance, taxpayers and illegal aliens or American citizens and illegal aliens who

00:28:28.960 are killing them and lowering their wages and increasing crime and taking a lot of welfare and lowering

00:28:35.920 standards at schools because a lot of them don't speak any English and are illiterate.

00:28:41.500 Those groups might have had some friction with one another except for intersectionality,

00:28:45.340 teaching them everyone has to get along except for the man sitting at the top. And it has clearly

00:28:50.700 worked. The term was only coined in 1989. Just a few decades later, it has fundamentally transformed

00:28:57.440 the Democrat Party and fundamentally transformed American national politics. This is really scary.

00:29:02.320 And we need to figure out a way to stop it. We need to figure out a way. Certainly we on the right

00:29:08.740 should never play into these intersectional games and tropes and euphemisms. But we really have to

00:29:14.020 stop it. It is poison. And it will only last so long. You can't erode the heart of the American

00:29:20.820 culture forever. Eventually, it will just collapse around itself. One last happier takeaway is that

00:29:26.220 Donald Trump is a good politician. So here's the line of the night.

00:29:29.920 My duty and the sacred duty of every elected official in this chamber is to defend Americans,

00:29:40.780 to protect their safety, their families, their communities, and their right to the American

00:29:46.920 dream. Because Americans are dreamers too.

00:29:51.040 Americans are dreamers too. Excellent line of the speech. It was the one that everybody remembered. I

00:30:01.460 think Stephen Miller wrote this speech. Stephen Miller is wonderful with language. He went on a

00:30:06.040 little long. The speech could have been a third shorter. It was just too long. But it was excellent

00:30:11.540 through and through. If he had just condensed it a little bit more, it would have been great. His use

00:30:15.180 of language is superb. Trump delivered it very well. He's clearly a good politician. And the people

00:30:20.360 who work for him are good politicians. Because almost every line of the speech was crafted to put

00:30:25.360 Democrats in impossible corners where they would have to face their own anti-Americanism and look

00:30:31.180 bad for the cameras. And I lied. I have one final takeaway. This one is an important one for

00:30:35.160 conservatives. I started to mention this last night during the live stream, but we got cut off by

00:30:38.960 the speech. So here it is. There is no conservatism without people. I see this a lot on Twitter.

00:30:46.780 People talk about this. They say, what about, okay, well this is good. The conservative governance

00:30:49.900 has been good. And the State of the Union is great. And the speech of the State of the Union is great.

00:30:54.040 And the taxes are good. But what about conservatism? What about the ism? Is the ism okay? There isn't a

00:31:02.100 conservatism absent people. There isn't a conservatism without time and space and people. This is a

00:31:08.400 classic error that the rationalists fall into. I sometimes talk about rationalism in politics.

00:31:14.660 This is the classic error. Conservatism. First of all, that implies that conservatism is an

00:31:20.820 ideology. And that's a very modern concept. Bill Buckley didn't think it was an ideology. Russell

00:31:26.240 Kirk didn't think it was an ideology. Edmund Burke certainly didn't think it was an ideology. All the

00:31:29.980 founders of what we would consider conservative thought, modern conservative thought, didn't think

00:31:34.060 this. Ideology is a formalized, abridged, rational sub-thought of the tradition. Conservatism

00:31:42.500 rebuts all of that. We resist the age of ideology, period. So I wouldn't say that. I would say the

00:31:48.300 conservative thought, conservative coalition, pulls from a lot of different philosophies and

00:31:52.620 views of the world. And importantly, institutions and traditions and the tradition. It pulls from all

00:31:58.380 of that. And all value is enfleshed. All value comes through men doing things. That's the only way

00:32:06.120 that value has any meaning in this world, is in time and space and through men doing things. And right

00:32:12.260 now, we have a government. We have a Speaker of the House named Paul Ryan. We have a Vice President

00:32:16.980 named Mike Pence. We have a President of the United States named Donald Trump. We have Cabinet

00:32:21.140 officials. We have the Congress. We have the Senate. We have Supreme Court justices. And these are men

00:32:27.120 who are doing things. They are the ones who are doing. And a lot of people are attacking them for

00:32:32.780 that because they are the vessel of conservative thought and a conservative agenda. If it were

00:32:37.500 different people, the left would be doing precisely the same thing. And it is a huge mistake for

00:32:42.540 conservatives to attack them and to pull away from them and not to support them because they are

00:32:48.260 doing our agenda. If they stop doing that, if they betray what we would like to do and betray our

00:32:54.160 agenda, by all means, attack them and find a new vessel for those thoughts and those ideas and

00:32:58.520 those goals. But while they're doing it, support them and do it. This is it. It's very tempting to

00:33:04.200 say, oh, you know, I like conservative things. I like what Trump's doing, but he's icky and I'm much

00:33:08.400 better than he is. But no, he's the one doing it. He is the one affecting that agenda along with

00:33:15.560 Congress, along with the Senate, along with all of the judges that he's appointing. You should support

00:33:20.980 that. That is conservative. That is what the conservative thought leads one to do. And you

00:33:27.440 shouldn't be beguiled by rationalist and ideological and essentially leftist ideas on how values relate

00:33:36.580 to the real world. This is the real world. We're doing great things. We're making America great

00:33:40.800 again. So be happy about it. And wear exuberant colors, just like the Congressional Black Caucus,

00:35:06.460 This is a fitting this day in history, as they frequently are. All nature is but art unknown to

00:35:15.920 thee. On this day in history, in 1606, Guy Fawkes, the chief conspirator in the plot to blow up the

00:35:22.800 British Parliament building, jumped to his death on the way up to be executed. You all know the Guy

00:35:28.880 Fawkes mask. It's worn by pseudo-rebellious idiots who occupy Wall Street and wear gynecological

00:35:34.300 headwear while they shriek profanities in protest of nothing in particular. You've seen these things.

00:35:39.120 It's come to serve as a universal symbol of resistance, of protest. But ask any of the people

00:35:44.500 wearing the masks, and I would bet you my Shapiro election check that they have no idea who Guy

00:35:49.660 Fawkes is or what he stood for. So I rather like this story as the resident papist at the Daily Wire.

00:35:57.080 I look forward to harshing all the lefties' mellows. The night before the general parliamentary

00:36:01.560 recession in 1605 on November 4th, Justice of the Peace, Sir Thomas Nivet, discovered Guy Fawkes

00:36:09.500 in the cellar of the Parliament building with 4,000 pounds of gunpowder. Fawkes belonged to a group of

00:36:15.360 disillusioned English Catholics organized by Robert Catesby, who sought to blow up figuratively and

00:36:21.780 literally England's Protestant government all the way up to King James I, who was set to attend

00:36:27.040 Parliament that day on November 5th. Now James notoriously persecuted both aspects of my ancestry,

00:36:34.200 English Puritans and Catholics. There are a few subjects on which Catholics and Mayflower passengers

00:36:39.660 agree. James I is one of them. In the ensuing months after Fawkes' capture, English authorities

00:36:45.840 rounded up and killed all of the conspirators in the gunpowder plot, in addition to arresting, torturing,

00:36:51.180 and killing dozens of English Catholics who had absolutely nothing to do with it. Guy Fawkes was

00:36:55.660 sentenced to be hanged, drawn, and quartered by January 31st. But as he climbed the ladder,

00:37:01.420 rather than give the Anglicans that pleasure, he jumped from the ladder and broke his own neck.

00:37:06.240 A Guy Fawkes Day is celebrated throughout Great Britain on the 5th of November with fireworks,

00:37:10.340 bonfires, the burning and effigy of Guy Fawkes, celebrating the day that Protestant England survived.

00:37:16.700 One wonders how differently English history and world history would have progressed

00:37:20.340 had the plot prevailed. Henry VIII, rather, famously broke Britain away from her ancestral

00:37:28.240 Catholic faith, despite in 1521 having written a book so critical of Martin Luther that Pope Leo X

00:37:35.200 gave him the title Defender of the Faith, an ironic title, because in 1535, frustrated that the Pope

00:37:42.040 kept stymieing Henry's desires to divorce and murder his wives, Henry declared himself Supreme Head of the

00:37:47.700 Church of England, for which he was excommunicated by Pope Paul III. In 1570, Pope St. Pius V excommunicated

00:37:55.160 Henry's younger daughter, Elizabeth I, and declared her officially deposed for her persecution of

00:38:01.260 Catholics in England. And we are not just talking about your everyday run-of-the-mill persecution of

00:38:06.540 Catholics, what we're seeing throughout the world for so long. We're talking about behead your own

00:38:11.680 sister, Mary Queen of Scots for being Catholic kind of persecution of Catholics. It is this sort of

00:38:16.580 persecution that makes many literary scholars think Shakespeare was a secret Catholic. Anyway,

00:38:22.740 after Elizabeth's death in 1603, James VI of Scotland succeeded her and became James I of England.

00:38:30.220 Now, they changed their names a lot. There were reigning names. So, he became James I. James was a

00:38:35.640 Protestant, but unlike Elizabeth, he had never been a Catholic. There was no time at which he was a

00:38:40.640 Catholic. James is the first cradle Protestant monarch of England. And it's easy for us now,

00:38:46.360 especially watching The Crown or whatever movies are coming out, it's easy for us to think of England

00:38:50.320 as a Protestant country. But you shouldn't forget, Catholicism reigned in England for well over a

00:38:55.260 thousand years. For much longer than any Protestant reign, multiples as long. There had been Celtic

00:39:00.860 Christianity, largely in accordance with Rome from the first century AD, and St. Augustine of

00:39:05.500 Canterbury brought the first authoritative papal mission, establishing a direct link between the

00:39:10.320 Kingdom of Kent and the Sea of Rome in 597. Had the gunpowder plot worked to dislodge from England

00:39:16.720 the merely two generations old Protestantism effected by two murderers, one who killed his wives and the

00:39:22.720 other who killed her sister, would England have reverted to her ancestral Catholic faith? Would the King

00:39:28.000 James Version of the Bible, considered by many the greatest work of the English language, would that

00:39:31.880 exist? All good questions made more urgent by the deplorable state of the Church of England today,

00:39:37.640 a husk of ecclesiology, and Great Britain generally. But the more personal question for all of us is what

00:39:43.940 precisely is meant by the Guy Fawkes masks? In our cultural and political battles today, who are the

00:39:50.580 real rebels and who has God on their side? Good questions. On that note, I will tell you that's the end of our
