The Michael Knowles Show - Ep. 97 - Democrats Smile For Farrakhan, Frown For Prosperity

00:00:00.000 Donald Trump touts the wonderful state of our union last night while Democrats sat and scowled,

00:00:06.200 except for the Congressional Black Caucus, who wore brightly colored scarves and shawls,

00:00:11.560 presumably to celebrate the national exuberance of the last year as we have made America great

00:00:16.840 again. It was so it was really nice of them to do it. And that's why I'm wearing my Coogee

00:00:20.140 sweater today. I want to celebrate, too. I really like this sweater. It makes me feel like Biggie

00:00:25.440 Smalls. I'm I'm I'm Smalley Smalls, actually. That's going to be my rap name. So we're really

00:00:31.220 fortunate also to be joined today by Senator Cory Booker for reaction. He's going to come right on

00:00:36.340 the show. And it's a real honor to have a U.S. senator here to react. So we will get right to it.

00:00:40.500 Then the strengths of intersectionality, why conservatism doesn't matter. And finally,

00:00:46.340 Guy Fawkes dies on this day in history. I'm Michael Knowles, and this is The Michael Knowles Show.

00:00:55.440 All right. There's a lot to talk about here. Some of you might have joined us last night. Thank you

00:01:02.220 so much if you came and hung out with us at the State of the Union stream party. I'm still slightly

00:01:07.780 hungover from it. We spent four hours smoking stogies and drinking and watching State of the

00:01:12.980 Union. It's a lot of fun. Dennis Prager dropped by. I think you can still catch that on. Yeah. Oh,

00:01:18.200 well, you can't catch it on YouTube because they shut us down halfway through CNN fraudulently shut us

00:01:24.660 down and made a copyright claim on our C-SPAN stream. The Young Turks was using the same stream,

00:01:29.540 and that went up perfectly fine. So I guess you can't find it there. But look for it on Facebook

00:01:32.860 or Daily Wire or something like that. It was a lot of fun. I'm glad that my headache is subsiding

00:01:37.520 because we all had a very good time doing it. So to get right into it, I want to focus specifically

00:01:42.360 on the Democrat reaction to some important moments from last night's State of the Union. And we're joined

00:01:48.660 by Senator Cory Booker. So let's begin. Donald Trump said, quote,

00:01:51.860 Tonight, I am asking the Congress to pass legislation to help ensure American foreign 0.97

00:01:58.160 assistance dollars always serve American interests and only go to friends of America,

00:02:04.540 not enemies of America. Cory Booker, your thoughts?

00:02:08.000 Feel that pain hurt and that pain.

00:02:11.500 Okay. Since the election, we have created 2.4 million new jobs. This was about halfway through

00:02:17.980 the speech, including 200,000 new jobs and manufacturing alone. After years of wage stagnation,

00:02:24.280 we are finally seeing rising wages. Unemployment claims have hit a 45-year low. African-American

00:02:31.560 unemployment stands at the lowest rate ever recorded. And Hispanic-American unemployment

00:02:37.440 has also reached the lowest levels in history. Cory, your reaction?

00:02:41.800 Tens of millions of Americans.

00:02:43.060 Tens of millions of Americans are working. Yeah. Tens of millions of black Americans

00:02:49.360 are working. The lowest unemployment rate in history. Hundreds of millions of Americans

00:02:53.400 generally are working. We have really wonderfully low unemployment right now. So surely, surely

00:02:58.340 that must have made you smile.

00:03:00.040 I had tears of rage.

00:03:01.900 After introducing parents whose children were tragically killed by MS-13 gang members, offering

00:03:07.560 compassion for their heartbreak, President Trump said, quote,

00:03:10.180 Tonight, I am calling on the Congress to finally close the deadly loopholes that have allowed

00:03:15.480 MS-13 and other criminals to break into our country. We have proposed new legislation that

00:03:21.700 will fix our immigration laws and support our ICE and Border Patrol agents so that this cannot 0.62

00:03:27.640 ever happen again. Cory, come on. You got to like that.

00:03:31.360 I hurt.

00:03:34.400 Trump said, quote,

00:03:35.580 I hurt.

00:03:47.100 President Trump said,

00:03:49.220 Siong Ho traveled thousands of miles on crutches across China and Southeast Asia to freedom. Most

00:03:54.920 of his family followed. His father was caught trying to escape and was tortured to death. Today,

00:03:59.360 he lives in Seoul, where he rescues other defectors and broadcasts into North Korea what the regime

00:04:05.100 fears the most, the truth. Today, he has a new leg. But Siong Ho, I understand you still keep those 0.98

00:04:10.740 crutches as a reminder of how far you have come. Your great sacrifice is an inspiration to us all.

00:04:16.740 I hurt.

00:04:18.900 Cory, you were like a broken record, Cory. Thank you for being here. Maybe we'll bring you back

00:04:23.420 later or something. Uh, my God, this guy, he can't, he's not happy about anything. At least,

00:04:28.420 though, forget Cory Booker, at least members of the Congressional Black Caucus, they were exuberant.

00:04:33.140 I don't know if you caught it. You should have seen them. They were wearing these beautifully

00:04:36.720 colored shawls. They were very big and bright because there's mourning in it. I'm sorry, what's that?

00:04:42.280 Hold on one second. I'm just getting, oh, oh, okay. I got, apparently I got that wrong. Uh,

00:04:49.220 they were wearing the shawls because they hate Trump. They were wearing them because they're

00:04:52.360 angry about something or whatever. They were also wearing black for some other protest thing or

00:04:56.560 whatever. Democrat rep, Al Green said, I'm wearing this to show my solidarity with the continent of

00:05:03.680 Africa. And especially with those countries that the president demeaned, defamed by indicating they

00:05:09.640 were S-hole or S-house countries wearing it to show that solidarity and to let the president know 0.93

00:05:16.700 that I disapprove of his statements and his behavior. I, I totally misread that. Democrats

00:05:22.940 were already wearing black to highlight the Me Too movement. Then they added on top of that,

00:05:27.540 the colorful scarves. Democrat rep Sheila Jackson, uh, she said, quote, I hope it was a pointed statement

00:05:34.000 to those that will see this as a symbol of respect. Uh, she said, she believes that her Kente cloth was

00:05:41.140 from Ghana. She believes that it's from Ghana. She doesn't know. This is exhibit 755 million of my

00:05:48.740 central theory of the left, that the left wants the appearance of the thing, but they don't want the

00:05:54.940 essence of the thing. They think that they're sixties radicals. They they're, they're play acting, uh,

00:06:00.840 protest. They think that they're out there. They're in the civil rights movement because they don't

00:06:05.600 want to realize that the civil rights movement worked and Jim Crow is over and, uh, segregation

00:06:11.040 is over and black Americans have civil rights, but they don't want to admit that because that's not 1.00

00:06:15.840 as cool. It doesn't look as good on TV. It's not as heroic. We're in a decadent and, uh, apathetic age,

00:06:22.280 but we want to appear like we're these wonderful, courageous people actually fighting against

00:06:27.500 something. It's much nicer. It's much more luxurious to just pretend to be fighting against

00:06:31.680 something than to actually have to go do it. Cause when you actually have to go do it,

00:06:34.380 you got water hoses turned on you and you get arrested and you get, uh, thrown in jail or worse.

00:06:38.780 But now there's, you just want to look kind of cool, right? They're wearing the Ghanaian garb.

00:06:43.780 They're wearing that, those, she thinks it's Ghanaian. They don't know if it is. I think it's

00:06:48.320 Ghanaian or I think it means something. I don't know. Uh, but they don't want to live in Ghana. 1.00

00:06:51.460 Ghana. No one's, no one's moving to Ghana. Nobody wants to be in Ghana. And, uh, that's where it's 1.00

00:06:57.620 so disingenuous when they hit Donald Trump over the S-hole comments, you know, that he allegedly said

00:07:04.780 at a closed door meeting, he said that a lot of impoverished countries in Africa and Haiti

00:07:09.560 are not very nice places to live. He said that mostly because they are clearly not very nice

00:07:14.740 places to live. If they were really nice places to live, uh, we, you would see Americans moving to

00:07:19.480 live there rather than all of them begging to come to the United States. They, they're so disingenuous

00:07:23.800 in, in the act itself, in the conversation itself, it undercuts their own argument. You can't

00:07:29.580 simultaneously say those countries are so awful. This country is so wonderful that we owe it to

00:07:34.520 the rest of the world to let people from crappy places move to the United States. And also those 0.65

00:07:39.400 places aren't crappy and also, and simultaneously, you can't do it. You cannot have both simultaneously,

00:07:44.340 but the left wants to have the appearance of the thing and they don't want to have to deal

00:07:48.560 with the, with the essence of the thing, that which animates this activism, these ideas.

00:07:53.540 This is slacktivism at its finest. They're wearing the black for the Me Too. They're wearing the

00:07:58.520 Ghanaian thing for, uh, protesting Trump for some other reason, or because he made, uh, improper

00:08:05.720 comments, untoward comments, uncouth comments behind closed doors at a private meeting. What is next?

00:08:12.520 What are they, are they going to wear a little pin for Kony 2012? What about Je suis Charlie? How we're

00:08:16.960 just going to add every, it'll, we'll have a mosaic of faux concern and faux activism and absolutely

00:08:23.600 empty virtue signaling and posturing. Here are two of the greatest social media supporters of Donald

00:08:29.260 Trump. Two of the, of only 45 people that he follows on Twitter. I keep trying to become one

00:08:34.440 of the people that he follows. Hasn't happened. Here they are explaining the ridiculous parade.

00:08:39.340 Well, that's what these little, uh, democratic lawmakers do. They sit down on the American people. 0.96

00:08:44.440 That's right. Here we have a president that wants to stand for all Americans. Yes. And you have these

00:08:50.020 democratic lawmakers. They want to sit down on us, but you know, it's not going to be tolerated. And

00:08:54.220 see, I think what they want to do is take us back to the Jim Crow day. That's right. They want to take 0.84

00:08:58.260 us back where they're manipulating, intimidating us and telling us how it's going to be. They want to

00:09:02.360 hand us crumbs. It's re it's reminding me of that president that said, we're going to give you

00:09:07.100 enough to, uh, keep you quiet, but not enough to make a difference. It's time for a president to stand up and

00:09:11.940 make a difference. That's what president Donald Trump is doing. And it's either the Democrats

00:09:16.260 can stand up or we can do like we're trying to grant a path to citizenship. We need to grant them

00:09:21.220 a path to retirement. It's time to retire. Some of these different lawmakers congressional black 0.95

00:09:25.840 caucus sat the entire time. Well, see, these people are in another, they back in the sixties.

00:09:30.940 That's right. This is 2018. We are in a new era, a new America. This man is truly making America

00:09:37.160 great again. Why wouldn't you be happy with us having more money in our pockets? See,

00:09:41.080 they want to hand you crumbs. We can no longer vote for a system that's handing us crumbs anymore.

00:09:46.160 We need to vote for a businessman that wants to make this place great again. And I don't see how

00:09:50.600 the Democrats are going to get in it. How are they going to win it in 2018 and how are they going to

00:09:54.460 win it in 2020? I love them so much. I love them so much. And they're absolutely right. They're,

00:09:59.580 they're thinking on this is so clear because they, they observe just that line alone. They're living in

00:10:05.320 the sixties. These people are living in the sixties. They realize that it's to their political

00:10:09.180 advantage. They are very lightly educated. Basically everybody in Congress is very lightly

00:10:14.500 educated, but especially people that do ridiculous stunts like this. Things have changed there. We're

00:10:20.140 in a different place. We're in a different culture and, uh, it's no longer, uh, there, there is no

00:10:25.480 longer an advantage, uh, to pretending to be protesting for, uh, things that haven't existed for 50

00:10:32.500 years. So lest you be tempted to think ever, even in spite of what Diamond and Silk just said,

00:10:37.920 very articulately, very, uh, clearly, uh, lest you be tempted to think that the congressional black

00:10:44.220 caucus members who frowned and sat in Warkooji colors last night are principled or politically

00:10:48.780 admirable in any way. Here they are. Here are members of the self-righteous congressional black 1.00

00:10:54.620 caucus, including Barack Obama, smiling, taking photos with Louis Farrakhan, the nation of Islam

00:11:00.020 leader who has famously said, quote, white people are potential humans. They haven't evolved yet. 0.51

00:11:05.040 They call them terrorists. I call them freedom fighters. Judaism is a gutter religion. And 1.00

00:11:09.700 Hitler was a very great man. Language festers. Corey, that is a great point. That is the first 1.00

00:11:15.400 good point Cory Booker made all day long. Language festers. Now you might wonder why you've never seen

00:11:21.880 that photo of Barack Obama with Louis Farrakhan before. That's because the media buried it. We already

00:11:26.820 know that the media do this. We know that, uh, there was the journalist conspiracy of major

00:11:32.880 mainstream journalists, uh, speaking to one another, conspiring on how to hide bad news about

00:11:37.820 Barack Obama and, uh, push, uh, fluffy pieces to make him more appealing. This was run by Ezra Klein,

00:11:43.760 who now has the audacity and the gall to run Vox.com and say that he is an explanatory journalist.

00:11:49.700 He's nothing but a cheap hack and a propagandist. He's been exposed spectacularly more than anyone else in

00:11:55.800 the media. He was exposed for being a hack propagandist. And now he comes out and says,

00:12:00.120 I'm the, the adult in the room who's going to explain things to you. Also an explainer for

00:12:03.900 Ezra Klein, all journalism is supposed to be explanatory. That's what language does,

00:12:07.540 but that's neither here nor there. Uh, Hillary Clinton tried to make this Louis Farrakhan thing

00:12:11.420 an issue during the 2008 race. She kept trying to get Barack Obama to reject Farrakhan's support.

00:12:17.460 So you have to reject his support. Obama played coy the whole time. He said he denounced it,

00:12:22.260 but he wouldn't reject it. And he's trying to find some distinction without a difference.

00:12:27.000 Had this photo, uh, come out, Hillary Clinton could be president. Had that photo come out of

00:12:32.380 Barack Obama and other CBC members smiling with a hate monger like Louis Farrakhan, very likely he

00:12:39.220 wouldn't be president and she would be president, but it's still happening. There's still a covering

00:12:43.680 up for these guys. It, this photo, one of the reasons you haven't seen it now is it was unearthed by

00:12:47.780 some kind of lefty journalists too. The major networks are not covering it. Fox is the only

00:12:52.100 one that's covering it. Uh, the rest will not touch this thing. They're trying to downflow it.

00:12:56.020 They'll allude to it, but they won't cover it in depth because it just doesn't, it doesn't fit the

00:13:01.800 narrative. And if it doesn't fit the narrative, they're not going to run it. Not to put too fine

00:13:05.560 a point on this congressional black caucus members will not smile at low black unemployment, but they

00:13:10.260 will smile with a man who says that white people aren't yet humans and that Hitler was a very great 0.90

00:13:15.160 man. That's the congressional black caucus. Imagine for a moment, if there were a congressional

00:13:18.820 white caucus, it sounds absurd. It would be absurd. In fact, imagine that any white member 0.99

00:13:24.660 of Congress met with a white racist, a white purveyor of racial division like David Duke or 0.97

00:13:29.840 Richard Spencer or whomever. Imagine the endless reporting. Imagine the endless coverage. They would 0.94

00:13:35.240 be not only run out of Congress, they would be run out of the country, tarred and feathered on a

00:13:39.820 rail. Do you, do you remember a mean girl, Jake Tapper, grilling Donald Trump during the campaign?

00:13:45.800 CNN employs that mean girl, Jake Tapper, and he was grilling Trump. Do you, do you disavow David

00:13:50.540 Duke? Meanwhile, Donald Trump said 15 years earlier, he said, David Duke's an idiot. I don't want to run, 1.00

00:13:55.660 be associated with him at all. I don't like him. He's terrible. There's no place for him at all.

00:13:59.160 But then for some reason, Jake Tapper just decided to bring this up again because it was a good cudgel

00:14:03.420 to hit Donald Trump with. He said, do you disavow David Duke? And Trump said, what do you mean,

00:14:07.440 where are you getting David Duke from? Why are you asking me these stupid questions? These questions 1.00

00:14:11.720 that are basically akin to, do you still beat your wife? Do you either, either way you answer that,

00:14:16.520 you're, you're implicating yourself. You're, you're defending against a harsh accusation. You're

00:14:21.980 playing into it with any response. Do you disavow David Duke? How dare you associate me with David

00:14:26.100 Duke? Obama didn't get that treatment. He didn't get that treatment with Farrakhan. Donald Trump,

00:14:31.220 you don't see photos of Donald Trump smiling with David Duke, shaking hands, thumbs up,

00:14:35.360 but you do see that with Louis Farrakhan and Barack Obama. He met him, he posed for a picture,

00:14:39.840 he smiled at him. So the congressional black August will sit and scowl for record low black 0.94

00:14:44.360 unemployment, but they will smile for a racist anti-American hate monger. That's because they're 0.99

00:14:48.520 charlatans. They don't represent their constituents. Any of the constituents they claim to represent, 1.00

00:14:53.180 pure charlatans. They should not be treated as representative of anybody. Their district 0.91

00:14:57.900 constituents, black Americans, none of them. Every Democrat who sat last night for the American flag, 0.99

00:15:02.820 the national anthem and low unemployment is a farce and a fraud and should not be afforded

00:15:07.700 any respect as a political leader, not for one single second. That said, keep it up guys, keep it

00:15:14.500 up, bring it on. This was excellent for Republicans. Trump clearly did it on purpose. He backed them into

00:15:20.480 corners. So when he said, we need to stand for our flag and our anthem, what he was really saying is

00:15:26.560 I'm going to force you Democrats into a bad photo op because they've spent a year now, two years now

00:15:33.300 saying that NFL players should not stand for the flag. So anything they do, if they stand up,

00:15:38.080 they're weak because they've flip-flopped on their position on the NFL. If they sit, they look

00:15:42.060 profoundly un-American, which they are and which they did look like. When Donald Trump walked in, 0.78

00:15:47.020 one thing to notice, we were joking about it on the stream, he was himself applauding. So he walks in

00:15:52.760 and he's applauding. He's on the stage, he's applauding. And this is really nice. People were

00:15:57.660 trying to say that this is narcissistic, he's applauding himself. That's not what he's doing.

00:16:01.620 It's actually exactly the opposite. There are a few things here. There's a guilelessness about this.

00:16:07.240 There's an innocence about this. He clearly is new at being the president and at being a politician at

00:16:13.940 all. And you can see that he's a little rough around the edges. He doesn't quite know. He appears

00:16:18.480 quite humbled by it, but it's also humbling. If he walks in, he's walking in for the state of the

00:16:23.180 union and he's applauding. Now, one read is that he's applauding himself, but it didn't look like

00:16:28.820 it. He's looking around. He actually stepped away from the podium before he began speaking.

00:16:33.560 He was standing to the side and looking around and clapping at everybody. This isn't like when

00:16:37.700 true narcissists like Bill Clinton or Barack Obama walk in, they feel like they're King Caesar

00:16:43.680 marching into Rome. Donald Trump isn't there for the state of the union to be the Trump accolades

00:16:50.200 parade. Surprisingly, it wasn't that. He was there to laud the state of the union. He was applauding

00:16:57.220 the state of the union. There's a lovely humility in that, which you can only get from a guy who

00:17:02.180 plasters his name on every building in the world. There's a lovely irony and something very American

00:17:06.840 about it. The guests were great too. Donald Trump invited David Dahlberg, firefighter who saved 62

00:17:12.160 children and staff from a summer camp in the California wildfires. He invited Ashley Leppert,

00:17:16.860 a Coast Guard technician who rescued dozens from the hurricanes. John Bridgers, founder of the Cajun

00:17:21.720 Navy to help Hurricane Harvey. Officer Ryan Holletz, a cop who was shot twice on the job, who adopted a

00:17:28.200 child from parents addicted to opioids. Corporal Matthew Bradford, who lost his sight and both legs

00:17:34.220 on a deployment in Iraq. First blind W amputee to re-enlist in the Marine Corps ever. Staff Sergeant

00:17:40.980 Justin Peck, he saved a fellow American service member from an IED in Syria. Preston Sharp, he's a

00:17:47.180 young boy who organized the placement of American flags and red carnations on more than 40,000 soldiers'

00:17:53.120 graves. Steve Stobe and Sandy Keplinger, small business owners. How long has it been since we saw small

00:17:59.280 business owners lauded in particular at one of these speeches? Corey Adams, a welder, a worker at Stobe's

00:18:06.180 company. Four parents whose daughters were killed tragically by the gang MS-13. Celestino Martinez, an ICE

00:18:14.240 officer who hunts down those gangs. Compare this to Barack Obama's. In 2016, Obama didn't invite anybody.

00:18:20.680 The invites were a tradition that were started by Ronald Reagan, but by 2016, Obama wasn't running

00:18:25.520 anymore. He'd had enough of that. He invited lots of people almost every year. 2016, nobody. In 2015,

00:18:31.360 the last year he did it, he invited Mark Kelly. Mark Kelly, as you might recall, is the husband of

00:18:38.340 Gabby Giffords. So the idea was that Barack Obama invited him because he was going to go on a mission

00:18:44.800 into space to prepare the way for America to send a manned mission to Mars. That was ostensibly the reason.

00:18:51.500 That's not really the reason. Mark Kelly is a major gun control advocate, and Barack Obama was trying

00:18:56.840 to grab guns for his entire presidency. Barack Obama began the presidency bemoaning all of those rubes in 0.99

00:19:03.360 the country who cling bitterly to their guns and to their religion. That was the purpose. It was a 0.98

00:19:08.660 political dig, and an anti-American wanted that. Alan Gross, who Barack Obama took credit for releasing

00:19:15.120 from a Cuban prison as a way to sell his total caving to the demands of the Castro regime. He was the other

00:19:20.900 guy that Barack Obama invited that year. You know, Trump gives invites. The people to whom Trump gives

00:19:27.200 invites, it highlights important aspects of our country, important sides of our country. Workers, servicemen,

00:19:33.780 philanthropists, patriotic kids, victims of crime that we have to address.

00:19:39.460 The Democrats held six separate State of the Union responses last night. Nobody watched any of them.

00:19:47.640 Even we didn't. We were supposed to be streaming one. We watched 20 seconds of that Kennedy kid 0.51

00:19:51.240 drooling on himself. We said, we can't watch this anymore in front of a broken car, presumably to

00:19:55.380 call attention to the fact that Democrats destroyed Detroit. So we turned that off and we just kept

00:19:59.400 drinking and hanging out. Here's one short clip from the celebrity organized people's State of the

00:20:04.920 Union.

00:20:05.920 This man, I don't even want to call him a man, but there's this man named Scott Bruin, moved to DC and basically said, screw it. He's been anointed the head of the EPA. He's suing him yesterday, running the show today. Since taking office, he's been a man on a mission.

00:20:32.700 To make sure we keep increasing our carbon emission. He doesn't believe in science because he's paid in full. Said the Paris climate accord is just a bunch of bulls.

00:20:49.700 I think my face is going to be in a permanent state of cringe. So that last guy at the end was Mark Ruffalo.

00:20:56.700 He's that professional protester who occasionally does superhero movies or something. But previously,

00:21:03.700 he's going to be in a permanent state of cringe. So that last guy at the end was Mark Ruffalo.

00:21:17.700 So that last guy at the end was Mark Ruffalo. He's that professional protester who occasionally does

00:21:23.820 superhero movies or something. But previously, you heard that awful singing. The lyrics were terrible.

00:21:30.420 They were just rhyming day with day and they didn't have a point and the points they made didn't make any

00:21:34.740 sense. And they'd sounded terrible. These are supposed to be the entertainers. These are supposed to be

00:21:39.820 people who entertain us. And they don't entertain us. They're not even when they try to, they aren't good.

00:21:44.840 They're not, there isn't any proficiency or skill or talent in any of this. They were wearing a shirt

00:21:52.340 that said, we are all dreamers or something like that. These people are doing politics now because

00:21:57.160 they aren't good at art. They aren't that great at art. If they spent a quarter of the time that they

00:22:01.740 spend ranting ignorantly about politics, they spent a quarter of that on their craft, they would be

00:22:07.560 much better. And that harmonica thing wouldn't have popped out my eardrum. Okay. I've got my most

00:22:12.260 important takeaways from the State of the Union. We've got much more to talk about why intersectionality

00:22:16.360 really does work. This is terrifying, but it is, we have to admit it. And why conservatism per se

00:22:22.100 doesn't matter. But first, before we do any of that, we got to talk about, these are dangerous times,

00:22:26.800 folks. And we have got to talk about Ring. So I've talked about Ring a lot. You've heard me talk about

00:22:31.700 their home security camera. I love it. It's innovative. It's totally the 21st century way. So they've

00:22:39.120 been sending us actual footage of Ring busting crooks in the act. This is one that I wanted to share

00:22:44.960 with you on this show. So I'll set it up. A woman runs up to a porch to steal a package from the doorstep 1.00

00:22:50.740 and then look at what happens.

00:22:56.580 Hey, put that down. 1.00

00:23:02.900 Dude, I just stopped someone from stealing my package.

00:23:06.000 Was she wearing a pink hat? I don't know. It looked like she was wearing a pink hat. So she 1.00

00:23:12.000 runs up. She's going to steal this package. And then the guy is on his Ring app and he's talking

00:23:16.940 to her. He said, put my package down. What are you doing? And then she just, she doesn't even

00:23:20.060 acknowledge, just puts it down and runs away into the car. She got completely caught. It's really

00:23:24.420 unbelievable. And Ring video doorbell, because we've heard these stories. There was a study in

00:23:30.380 downtown LA, somewhere, some neighborhood around LA, where Ring gave out a bunch of its product

00:23:36.320 to a high crime area. And home burglaries went down by 55% in six months. So you hear these

00:23:43.240 statistics, but here you actually get to see in person and it's very entertaining. So I wanted to

00:23:47.840 show it. It's a really effective way to stop package theft because thieves just cannot hide with a Ring.

00:23:53.160 Even if they try to steal your Ring, the video is up in the cloud so you can get them anyway.

00:23:57.080 Anyway, the look on her face says it all. She was caught red-handed. She drops the package,

00:24:01.340 runs away. The Ring video doorbell lets you see and speak to intruders on your smartphone

00:24:05.100 from anywhere, even share video clips to your neighbors using the Ring app. So if there's a

00:24:09.940 little crook in the pink hat runs up and tries to steal your package, you can say, hey, get out of 0.71

00:24:13.460 here. And then you can share that video to your neighbors and say, hey, watch your packages. We've 0.93

00:24:18.260 got a crook in the neighborhood. Ring's floodlight camera is really good too. Spotlight camera is

00:24:22.120 really good. They let you bring a ring of security around your entire property.

00:24:27.080 You'll know the floodlight cameras. That's when the derelicts, you in my audience,

00:24:31.540 will run onto someone's property to break in or something and then the light hits you and then

00:24:34.840 you run away. That's what it does except it also has a camera and uploads all of that to the cloud

00:24:38.660 so you can see it from anywhere, from a beach in Bali or your office or whatever. Stop crying

00:24:44.100 before it happens. Help make your neighborhood safer with Ring. People used to do neighborhood

00:24:48.720 watches. That was the old-timey way to do things with mixed results. This is the 21st century.

00:24:54.300 Get with the 21st century. You're not going to chase down the robbers in a horse and buggy

00:24:58.080 either. This is the way to do it now. It's much less expensive. It's much easier. You can

00:25:02.720 do it from anywhere. You have to get it. You can save up to $150 on a Ring of Security kit

00:25:09.680 at ring.com slash Knowles, K-N-O-W-L-E-S, just like the last name of Jay-Z's wife. K-N-O-W-L-E-S.

00:25:18.340 That's ring.com slash Knowles. $150 off when you go to ring.com slash Knowles. Marshall,

00:25:24.040 what is it? Ring.com slash Knowles. Ring.com slash Knowles. Okay, the big takeaways from last night.

00:25:29.420 By all tangible measures, the state of our union is strong. By all the tangible measures.

00:25:33.060 Militarily, as a matter of the economy, as a matter of the bureaucracy shrinking, as a matter

00:25:39.760 of the judges who have been appointed. More judges appointed in this first year than ever in history.

00:25:45.140 And they're all good originalists who are actually going to interpret laws in the Constitution as

00:25:48.520 they were written. All wonderful stuff. There was a lot of North Korea talk. North Korea victim was

00:25:54.500 invited to the event. One wonders how much time a little rocket man has to live on earth. It really

00:26:00.600 looked like the buildup to some action that should have probably been taken 25 years ago.

00:26:05.180 So good on them. On the intangibles, on the culture, we haven't been this divided in at least

00:26:09.960 half a century, maybe longer. Clearly, they wouldn't stand up for America. They wouldn't

00:26:15.320 stand up for the flag. This is weird. People say Donald Trump is so weird. It's so strange he's

00:26:20.720 president. Trump is like perfectly normal compared to these people who are sitting for their own

00:26:25.480 country. It's so disgusting and outrageous. All of that does show the strength of intersectionality. 0.99

00:26:32.920 We've heard this term bandied about. Intersectionality is defined as the interconnected nature of social

00:26:37.940 categorizations such as race, class, and gender as they apply to a given individual or group

00:26:42.980 regarded as creating overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage.

00:26:49.020 The word was invented in 1989 by a feminist named Kimberley Crenshaw. It's such a fake term, 1.00

00:26:55.900 by the way, that when I was writing this out, my word processor put a little squiggly underneath it.

00:26:59.600 That's how new this is. My word isn't that old, you know? But this is the strength of

00:27:04.200 intersectionality. So you saw the illegal aliens were a big political issue last night. Nobody would 0.55

00:27:09.960 care about illegal aliens if not for intersectionality. I'm old enough to have worked on political

00:27:14.460 campaigns when it was a given on both sides of the aisle that playing to illegal aliens doesn't

00:27:20.960 work for anybody because we don't want people breaking our laws and illegal aliens theoretically 1.00

00:27:25.740 can't vote. Obviously, Democrats are doing their best to make sure that they can, especially in my

00:27:30.160 home state of California. But obviously, it makes perfect sense that no one would care about illegal 0.62

00:27:35.220 aliens as a political matter because we're the voters. By definition, if only people who are not

00:27:42.520 illegal aliens can vote, you wouldn't play to that except for intersectionality. What intersectionality 0.77

00:27:46.960 does is create this hostile, toxic, divisive world in which you are convinced, you are brainwashed

00:27:55.740 into imagining oppression everywhere, everywhere among every person except for whatever contrivance

00:28:04.140 sits at the top. Probably in this version of the culture is straight white men who think that

00:28:10.620 they're men. But if you're a man who thinks that he's a woman, that's okay. You get to go. Then

00:28:14.380 you're one of the good people. And the only bad people are the straight white men who think they're 0.98

00:28:17.880 men right up at the top. And in that way, all of the division that you would have among different 0.88

00:28:22.520 groups, say, for instance, taxpayers and illegal aliens or American citizens and illegal aliens who

00:28:28.960 are killing them and lowering their wages and increasing crime and taking a lot of welfare and lowering

00:28:35.920 standards at schools because a lot of them don't speak any English and are illiterate.

00:28:41.500 Those groups might have had some friction with one another except for intersectionality,

00:28:45.340 teaching them everyone has to get along except for the man sitting at the top. And it has clearly

00:28:50.700 worked. The term was only coined in 1989. Just a few decades later, it has fundamentally transformed

00:28:57.440 the Democrat Party and fundamentally transformed American national politics. This is really scary.

00:29:02.320 And we need to figure out a way to stop it. We need to figure out a way. Certainly we on the right

00:29:08.740 should never play into these intersectional games and tropes and euphemisms. But we really have to

00:29:14.020 stop it. It is poison. And it will only last so long. You can't erode the heart of the American

00:29:20.820 culture forever. Eventually, it will just collapse around itself. One last happier takeaway is that

00:29:26.220 Donald Trump is a good politician. So here's the line of the night.

00:29:29.920 My duty and the sacred duty of every elected official in this chamber is to defend Americans,

00:29:40.780 to protect their safety, their families, their communities, and their right to the American

00:29:46.920 dream. Because Americans are dreamers too.

00:29:51.040 Americans are dreamers too. Excellent line of the speech. It was the one that everybody remembered. I

00:30:01.460 think Stephen Miller wrote this speech. Stephen Miller is wonderful with language. He went on a

00:30:06.040 little long. The speech could have been a third shorter. It was just too long. But it was excellent

00:30:11.540 through and through. If he had just condensed it a little bit more, it would have been great. His use

00:30:15.180 of language is superb. Trump delivered it very well. He's clearly a good politician. And the people

00:30:20.360 who work for him are good politicians. Because almost every line of the speech was crafted to put

00:30:25.360 Democrats in impossible corners where they would have to face their own anti-Americanism and look

00:30:31.180 bad for the cameras. And I lied. I have one final takeaway. This one is an important one for

00:30:35.160 conservatives. I started to mention this last night during the live stream, but we got cut off by

00:30:38.960 the speech. So here it is. There is no conservatism without people. I see this a lot on Twitter.

00:30:46.780 People talk about this. They say, what about, okay, well this is good. The conservative governance

00:30:49.900 has been good. And the State of the Union is great. And the speech of the State of the Union is great.

00:30:54.040 And the taxes are good. But what about conservatism? What about the ism? Is the ism okay? There isn't a 1.00

00:31:02.100 conservatism absent people. There isn't a conservatism without time and space and people. This is a

00:31:08.400 classic error that the rationalists fall into. I sometimes talk about rationalism in politics.

00:31:14.660 This is the classic error. Conservatism. First of all, that implies that conservatism is an

00:31:20.820 ideology. And that's a very modern concept. Bill Buckley didn't think it was an ideology. Russell

00:31:26.240 Kirk didn't think it was an ideology. Edmund Burke certainly didn't think it was an ideology. All the

00:31:29.980 founders of what we would consider conservative thought, modern conservative thought, didn't think

00:31:34.060 this. Ideology is a formalized, abridged, rational sub-thought of the tradition. Conservatism

00:31:42.500 rebuts all of that. We resist the age of ideology, period. So I wouldn't say that. I would say the

00:31:48.300 conservative thought, conservative coalition, pulls from a lot of different philosophies and

00:31:52.620 views of the world. And importantly, institutions and traditions and the tradition. It pulls from all

00:31:58.380 of that. And all value is enfleshed. All value comes through men doing things. That's the only way 0.53

00:32:06.120 that value has any meaning in this world, is in time and space and through men doing things. And right

00:32:12.260 now, we have a government. We have a Speaker of the House named Paul Ryan. We have a Vice President

00:32:16.980 named Mike Pence. We have a President of the United States named Donald Trump. We have Cabinet

00:32:21.140 officials. We have the Congress. We have the Senate. We have Supreme Court justices. And these are men

00:32:27.120 who are doing things. They are the ones who are doing. And a lot of people are attacking them for

00:32:32.780 that because they are the vessel of conservative thought and a conservative agenda. If it were

00:32:37.500 different people, the left would be doing precisely the same thing. And it is a huge mistake for

00:32:42.540 conservatives to attack them and to pull away from them and not to support them because they are

00:32:48.260 doing our agenda. If they stop doing that, if they betray what we would like to do and betray our

00:32:54.160 agenda, by all means, attack them and find a new vessel for those thoughts and those ideas and

00:32:58.520 those goals. But while they're doing it, support them and do it. This is it. It's very tempting to

00:33:04.200 say, oh, you know, I like conservative things. I like what Trump's doing, but he's icky and I'm much 0.98

00:33:08.400 better than he is. But no, he's the one doing it. He is the one affecting that agenda along with 0.81

00:33:15.560 Congress, along with the Senate, along with all of the judges that he's appointing. You should support

00:33:20.980 that. That is conservative. That is what the conservative thought leads one to do. And you

00:33:27.440 shouldn't be beguiled by rationalist and ideological and essentially leftist ideas on how values relate

00:33:36.580 to the real world. This is the real world. We're doing great things. We're making America great

00:33:40.800 again. So be happy about it. And wear exuberant colors, just like the Congressional Black Caucus, 0.97

00:33:45.620 because we should celebrate. Okay, let's get to this day in history. But first, I'm sorry,

00:33:49.760 this is a good this day in history. This is a really good. People don't know anything about

00:33:52.520 this day in this day in history. But I'm sorry, if you're watching on Facebook and YouTube,

00:33:57.400 I'll have to say goodbye to you now. I assume you're not watching on YouTube because CNN probably

00:34:00.780 took this feed down too, and YouTube probably obliged. But if you're watching on Facebook,

00:34:06.200 you've got to go over to dailywire.com. Dailywire.com is where you get me, you get the Andrew

00:34:12.720 Klavan show, you get the Ben Shapiro show, you get the conversation with Alicia, and I am going to be

00:34:16.780 on the next episode. So you can ask, only members can ask questions, but everybody can watch. Many

00:34:21.960 are called, few are chosen. You also can send in questions to the mailbag. You also get no ads on

00:34:26.460 the website. You get a lot of stuff, blah, blah, blah. This, guys, this is what you need. The state

00:34:30.180 of the union is strong, and the leftist tears are welling up. I actually, I might need a second one

00:34:34.800 just from Cory Booker's appearance on our show today. I might need to catch all of those.

00:34:38.640 Cory is just one of these guys. He is just one of these Democrats who are pouring out salty

00:34:43.240 leftist tears. So make sure you go over there. $10 a month, $100 a year, and you get the only

00:34:49.320 proven vessel to capture all of the radioactive leftist tears. Dailywire.com. We'll be right back.

00:35:04.360 Okay, are we ready? Let's get to this day in history.

00:35:06.460 This is a fitting this day in history, as they frequently are. All nature is but art unknown to

00:35:15.920 thee. On this day in history, in 1606, Guy Fawkes, the chief conspirator in the plot to blow up the

00:35:22.800 British Parliament building, jumped to his death on the way up to be executed. You all know the Guy

00:35:28.880 Fawkes mask. It's worn by pseudo-rebellious idiots who occupy Wall Street and wear gynecological 1.00

00:35:34.300 headwear while they shriek profanities in protest of nothing in particular. You've seen these things. 1.00

00:35:39.120 It's come to serve as a universal symbol of resistance, of protest. But ask any of the people

00:35:44.500 wearing the masks, and I would bet you my Shapiro election check that they have no idea who Guy

00:35:49.660 Fawkes is or what he stood for. So I rather like this story as the resident papist at the Daily Wire.

00:35:57.080 I look forward to harshing all the lefties' mellows. The night before the general parliamentary

00:36:01.560 recession in 1605 on November 4th, Justice of the Peace, Sir Thomas Nivet, discovered Guy Fawkes

00:36:09.500 in the cellar of the Parliament building with 4,000 pounds of gunpowder. Fawkes belonged to a group of

00:36:15.360 disillusioned English Catholics organized by Robert Catesby, who sought to blow up figuratively and

00:36:21.780 literally England's Protestant government all the way up to King James I, who was set to attend

00:36:27.040 Parliament that day on November 5th. Now James notoriously persecuted both aspects of my ancestry,

00:36:34.200 English Puritans and Catholics. There are a few subjects on which Catholics and Mayflower passengers

00:36:39.660 agree. James I is one of them. In the ensuing months after Fawkes' capture, English authorities

00:36:45.840 rounded up and killed all of the conspirators in the gunpowder plot, in addition to arresting, torturing,

00:36:51.180 and killing dozens of English Catholics who had absolutely nothing to do with it. Guy Fawkes was 0.88

00:36:55.660 sentenced to be hanged, drawn, and quartered by January 31st. But as he climbed the ladder,

00:37:01.420 rather than give the Anglicans that pleasure, he jumped from the ladder and broke his own neck.

00:37:06.240 A Guy Fawkes Day is celebrated throughout Great Britain on the 5th of November with fireworks,

00:37:10.340 bonfires, the burning and effigy of Guy Fawkes, celebrating the day that Protestant England survived. 0.97

00:37:16.700 One wonders how differently English history and world history would have progressed

00:37:20.340 had the plot prevailed. Henry VIII, rather, famously broke Britain away from her ancestral

00:37:28.240 Catholic faith, despite in 1521 having written a book so critical of Martin Luther that Pope Leo X

00:37:35.200 gave him the title Defender of the Faith, an ironic title, because in 1535, frustrated that the Pope

00:37:42.040 kept stymieing Henry's desires to divorce and murder his wives, Henry declared himself Supreme Head of the

00:37:47.700 Church of England, for which he was excommunicated by Pope Paul III. In 1570, Pope St. Pius V excommunicated

00:37:55.160 Henry's younger daughter, Elizabeth I, and declared her officially deposed for her persecution of

00:38:01.260 Catholics in England. And we are not just talking about your everyday run-of-the-mill persecution of

00:38:06.540 Catholics, what we're seeing throughout the world for so long. We're talking about behead your own 1.00

00:38:11.680 sister, Mary Queen of Scots for being Catholic kind of persecution of Catholics. It is this sort of 0.98

00:38:16.580 persecution that makes many literary scholars think Shakespeare was a secret Catholic. Anyway,

00:38:22.740 after Elizabeth's death in 1603, James VI of Scotland succeeded her and became James I of England.

00:38:30.220 Now, they changed their names a lot. There were reigning names. So, he became James I. James was a

00:38:35.640 Protestant, but unlike Elizabeth, he had never been a Catholic. There was no time at which he was a

00:38:40.640 Catholic. James is the first cradle Protestant monarch of England. And it's easy for us now, 0.95

00:38:46.360 especially watching The Crown or whatever movies are coming out, it's easy for us to think of England

00:38:50.320 as a Protestant country. But you shouldn't forget, Catholicism reigned in England for well over a

00:38:55.260 thousand years. For much longer than any Protestant reign, multiples as long. There had been Celtic 0.57

00:39:00.860 Christianity, largely in accordance with Rome from the first century AD, and St. Augustine of

00:39:05.500 Canterbury brought the first authoritative papal mission, establishing a direct link between the
