Tim Walls was born in 1964 to a middle-class, working-class family in Minnesota. He grew up as a devout Catholic and joined the U.S. Army in the early 1980s, becoming a decorated war hero in the ranks of the elite. But as he grew older, his political life took a turn for the worst, and he found his way into the orbit of radical politics.

00:00:49.020Skamala Harris has now selected her vice presidential candidate. His name is Tim
00:00:53.100Walls, and he is one of the most radical governors in all of America.
00:01:01.740Despite his seemingly humble beginnings, his career trajectory is littered with questionable
00:01:05.720decisions, political opportunism, and increasingly radical campaigns. Tim Walls was born on April 6,
00:01:11.1001964 in West Point, Nebraska. His dad worked as a public school administrator. His mom was a community
00:01:16.440activist and homemaker. Walls told Minnesota Public Radio they were certainly New Deal, which is Walls'
00:01:21.740claim to being a born and bred Democrat. According to the Independent, Walls' parents almost named him
00:01:26.280after President John F. Kennedy. Walls shared, quote, growing up Catholic, we had John Kennedy
00:01:30.620memorabilia in the house. My mother was pregnant with me when he was assassinated, and I guess there
00:01:34.460was a debate about calling me John when she was picking names. The tenuous connection with the
00:01:37.900Kennedys was just an early indicator that politics would be Tim Walls' life. After high school,
00:01:42.660Walls joined the Army National Guard. Concurrently, he pursued a career in education, earning a
00:01:46.640bachelor's degree from prestigious Chadron State College in 1989, and a master's degree from
00:01:51.480Minnesota State University in 2001. Walls taught high school geography and coached football. He was
00:01:56.180an assistant coach, not a head coach, despite his latest attempts to play one on TV. But what defined
00:02:00.360his career was his relentless pursuit of political advancement. The first place he sought out that
00:02:04.680advancement appears to have been China. Walls has been to China over 30 times. Yes, you heard that
00:02:09.820correctly. More than 30 visits to a country that is and has been no friend to the United States.
00:02:14.120Walls' connection with China began in 1989, a pivotal year marked by the horrific Tiananmen
00:02:18.440Square massacre. While most Americans were recoiling from the brutality of the Chinese Communist Party,
00:02:23.500Walls decided it was a perfect time to head on over to China to teach. He even witnessed the
00:02:27.080aftermath of the protests firsthand. Fast forward a few years, and he chose to go back to honeymoon
00:02:31.220in China with his wife, Glenn. An odd place for a honeymoon, to be sure. But then again,
00:02:35.700Bernie Sanders honeymooned in the Soviet Union. But wait, there's more. Walls and his wife started a
00:02:39.960company, Educational Travel Adventures, specifically to take high school students from
00:02:43.820Mankato, Minnesota, on trips to China every summer. These trips, it turns out, were at least partially
00:02:49.100funded by the Chinese regime. What did China expect in return for this generosity? No one knows,
00:02:54.600but the CCP isn't exactly famous for being giving and open-hearted. Walls' interactions in China
00:02:59.220didn't go unnoticed. It's almost certain in the Ministry of State Security, China's powerful secret
00:03:02.720police vetted him. There's no hard evidence, of course, to suggest that Walls was directly involved
00:03:06.700with Chinese intelligence. But the very nature of his extensive travel and engagement with Chinese
00:03:11.020officials warrants some scrutiny. Another questionable life choice occurred when Walls,
00:03:14.940then a 31-year-old high school teacher and assistant football coach, an example for the
00:03:18.740children of Mankato West High School, was arrested for driving under the influence in Nebraska.
00:03:23.380Walls was pulled over for speeding, clocked at 96 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone.
00:03:27.800According to the police report, the arresting officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on
00:03:31.580Walls' breath in person. Walls subsequently failed both a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer,
00:03:35.880leading to his arrest and subsequent guilty plea in 1996. During Tim Walls' 2006 campaign for
00:03:41.520Congress, his campaign manager, Kerry Greeley, attempted to address the resurfacing of that
00:03:45.7801995 DUI. Greeley asserted Walls was not actually drunk at the time of the arrest. She attributed the
00:03:51.600incident to a misunderstanding, partly due to Walls' partial deafness, which he suffered during his time
00:03:56.740in the National Guard. Something about him being partially deaf probably explained how he flunked the
00:04:01.500field sobriety and breathalyzer test, clocking a 0.128 percent on the latter. Even the end of
00:04:07.080Walls' National Guard service was shrouded in controversy. According to the New York Post,
00:04:11.000veterans have accused him of embellishing his military career and abandoning his National Guard
00:04:14.940battalion. That's because Walls retired ahead of his unit's 2005 deployment to Iraq. According to
00:04:19.880retired command sergeants Major Thomas Behrens and Paul Hur, Walls quit upon learning that his unit would
00:04:24.240be deployed to Iraq, even after telling his fellow troops he would join them there. According to
00:04:28.180Behrens and Hur, on May 16, 2005, Walls quit, betraying his country, leaving the 1st 125th Field
00:04:34.120Artillery Battalion and its soldiers hanging, without its senior non-commissioned officer as
00:04:38.220the battalion prepared for war. Here's Behrens explaining. He abandoned us. I mean, what the
00:04:43.080hell kind of leader does that? I mean, he just, as soon as the shots were fired in Iraq, he turned and
00:04:48.060ran the other way and hung his hat up and quit. In Walls' official congressional biography, it simply
00:04:53.320states, quote, Walls served overseas with his battalion in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. From a
00:04:57.920veteran's perspective, there is a big difference between serving overseas in support of an operation
00:05:02.020versus in an operation. Walls' biography is intentionally vague. Veterans have been ringing
00:05:06.700the alarm bells ever since his 2006 run for Congress. One video unearthed online shows a veteran
00:05:11.000confronting Walls' campaign staff at his offices over the issue.
00:05:13.860There's a huge difference between being deployed to a certain face in Italy and being in the combat zone.
00:05:20.960Under current U.S. law, this could get the congressman probably thrown in jail in violation of 2006 Stolen Ballard Act.
00:05:29.740None of this has stopped Walls from continuing to imply he served in combat.
00:05:32.880Highest ranking enlisted soldier ever to serve in Congress. Retired 24 years later as command sergeant
00:05:38.960major and served with his battalion at Operating Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
00:05:43.740Having been one of those that came back, we were in support of OEF, but being sitting in there with OEF, OIF veterans,
00:05:50.360when we came back, they showed us the horse whisperer and told us to be nice when we went home.
00:05:54.760This type of lie is typically known as stolen valor. While the nature of his veteran status remained hazy
00:05:59.140throughout his gubernatorial campaign and election, his elevation to Kamala Harris' presidential ticket
00:06:03.320has brought those allegations back to light. Ironically enough, it was Kamala Harris' campaign account
00:06:07.560that tweeted a video of Walls claiming to have carried weapons in war.
00:06:10.740I've been voting for common sense legislation that protects the Second Amendment, but we can do background checks.
00:06:15.480We can do CDC research. We can make sure we don't have reciprocal carry among states.
00:06:19.580And we can make sure that those weapons of war that I carried in war is the only place where those weapons were at.
00:06:24.520Even CNN understood the gravity of the stolen valor allegations.
00:06:27.440There is no evidence that at any time Governor Walz was in a position of being shot at.
00:06:32.600And some of his language could easily be seen to suggest that he was.
00:06:36.560Immediately after abandoning his troops, Walz launched a run for Congress.
00:06:39.680In fact, he was apparently considering a run for Congress even during his last years in the National Guard.
00:06:44.340In 2006, Walz formally entered the political arena.
00:06:47.120He ran for the U.S. House of Representatives from Minnesota's 1st Congressional District.
00:06:50.640He narrowly defeated 6th-term Republican incumbent Gil Gutnacht.
00:06:54.080His focus on veterans affairs, agriculture, education, massed a more opportunistic approach to governance.
00:06:59.360This administration took us to an unjustified war in Iraq where our warriors are doing the best they can.
00:07:04.900They are the best that's ever been fielded.
00:07:06.340They left them there. They do not support the VA on the back end.
00:07:10.060And this country is no safer because of it. We can do better.
00:07:13.060I don't have to rebut or say anything. I live that.
00:07:15.620I, on a teacher's salary, understand what's happening.
00:07:17.940When I coached football, these stands held about 3,000 people. That's a lot.
00:07:22.880It's also the number of American soldiers who have died fighting in Iraq.
00:07:26.480Serving right now are kids that I taught, coached, and trained to be soldiers.
00:07:30.360They deserve a plan for Iraq to govern itself so they can come home.
00:07:35.080As a former high school teacher, Walls made education a central plank of his 2006 campaign.
00:07:39.480He argued for increased federal funding for public schools, largely SOPs to the teachers' unions.
00:07:44.220Tim Walls' time as U.S. representative was marked by a stance on positions he would quickly abandon later upon becoming Minnesota governor.
00:07:50.180He represented himself as a moderate, a supporter of gun rights, the Keystone XL pipeline, and Israel.
00:07:54.720He also voted in favor of tighter vetting of refugees.
00:07:56.840While Walls served on the House Committee on Veterans Affairs and was a vocal proponent of veterans' rights,
00:08:01.540VA whistleblowers reported that Walls' office did not adequately support their efforts to expose mismanagement and corruption within the VA.
00:08:08.860Walls also gained a reputation for failures in his communication and with his office's constituent services.
00:08:13.760Reports of delayed responses and insufficient support for constituents dealing with federal agencies were recurrent themes during his tenure.
00:08:20.380By 2017, Walls saw an opportunity to climb the political ladder higher.
00:08:23.380Announcing his candidacy for governor of Minnesota, his campaign capitalized on Governor Mark Dayton's decision not to seek re-election.
00:08:29.820The Democratic primary for governor was a battleground, with Walls facing formidable opponents like State Representative Aaron Murphy and Attorney General Lori Swanson.
00:08:36.920Walls' campaign strategy was straightforward, win at any cost.
00:08:40.280The cost was the abandonment of much of his centrist platform.
00:08:43.160He suddenly shifted left on issues like gun control and vetting of refugees.
00:08:46.200Should Minnesotans be required by law to show a valid ID to vote?
00:08:50.880And should undocumented or illegal immigrants be granted driver's licenses?
00:08:55.460Tim Walls will just go around with that.
00:08:59.500And yes, they should have driver's licenses.
00:09:01.340So when Hope comes home after Parkland and says, Dad, we have to do something.
00:09:05.060This issue of the nation changing, the NRA changing.
00:09:08.620And to be quite honestly, the folks we're going to need to actually get this done, responsible gun owners, if we can't welcome them in when there's a change of heart, if we can't welcome them in to make a difference to actually get this done, then it's simply advocacy and words.
00:09:24.800He also endorsed a public option for health care that would effectively undercut private insurance in the state.
00:09:29.140He pushed vast spending initiatives on everything from infrastructure to affordable housing.
00:09:32.680He suggested a vast overhaul of the state's energy system in order to stop climate change, including extraordinary spending on wind, solar and other inefficient technologies.
00:09:41.760There wasn't a spending initiative Walls didn't support.
00:09:46.940As your governor, I will do nothing that puts at risk that sacred place.
00:09:51.360But I will continue to to praise, to build and to make sure that if we have the solutions to build the clean energy economy, we have the solution to create jobs.
00:10:02.260I will stand there and make it happen.
00:10:04.300Walls also began speaking loudly about social issues.
00:10:06.580He pushed soft on crime policies, gun control, LGBTQ plus minus divided by sign issues.
00:10:11.820Walls secured the Democratic farmer labor nomination with 41.6 percent of the vote.
00:10:15.980In the general election, Walls faced Republican Jeff Johnson.
00:10:20.420Walls, unwilling to define himself clearly politically and acting all things to all people, won 53.9 percent of the vote.
00:10:26.240It was as governor, however, that Walls' true leftism emerged.
00:10:29.580On his very first day in office, Walls signed an executive order establishing a DEI Council, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, tasked with implementing DEI-focused initiatives all across state agencies.
00:10:40.580The council included representatives from various state departments, community organizations and advocacy groups.
00:10:44.980With a timeline aiming for quarterly reports and a comprehensive action plan within the first year.
00:10:50.320The DEI Council's mandate included conducting assessments of current practices, identifying disparities, and recommending policy changes to promote equity and inclusion.
00:10:59.680This council also oversaw the implementation of DEI-focused training programs for state employees on issues related to diversity and unconscious bias.
00:11:09.540Tim Walls prioritized an agenda that elevated identity politics over merit and competence.
00:11:13.580This council enforced quotas and mandates, leading to hiring practices that emphasized demographic characteristics rather than qualifications or experience.
00:11:21.540Walls' first step in office was a step toward division and DEI.
00:11:24.900When the pandemic of 2020 hit, Walls' instinct was to lock down.
00:11:29.120On March 13, 2020, he declared a peacetime emergency, then issued more than 100 executive orders, ranging from stay-at-home mandates to mask requirements to business closures.
00:11:37.520The Minnesota economy plummeted into chaos.
00:11:39.360According to the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, quote, total non-farm employment fell by 416,000 jobs in March and April, an amount larger than the entirety of North Dakota's workforce.
00:11:50.860State GDP declined by nearly 30% in the second quarter.
00:11:53.840Tens of thousands of businesses around the state were forced to close their doors and either pivot to remote operations or temporarily close their business altogether.
00:12:01.000Walls' administration faced criticism for inconsistent messaging and execution of policies.
00:12:05.040His decision to allow only outdoor dining during certain phases of reopening was met with confusion and frustration, particularly as other states adopted more direct and cohesive approaches.
00:12:14.040The administration's handling of unemployment benefits and aid distribution was slow and inefficient, compounding the economic hardships faced by many Minnesotans.
00:12:20.960The $67.3 million in COVID-19 business relief payments that Walls controlled were insufficient and came too late to save too many local businesses.
00:12:28.420One of the most contentious aspects of Walls' pandemic response was his handling of health and safety measures in long-term care facilities.
00:12:35.340Early on in the pandemic, these facilities became hotspots for COVID-19 outbreaks, leading to a significant number of deaths among elderly residents.
00:12:41.980The state's response was inadequate and slow, failing to protect the most vulnerable populations effectively.
00:12:47.160This criticism was further fueled by reports of insufficient PPE and delayed testing in these facilities.
00:12:52.700Additionally, Walls' administration failed religious groups, including the Minnesota Catholic bishops, by placing limits on religious gatherings.
00:12:58.420Those restrictions infringed on religious freedom and were inconsistently applied compared to other public gatherings in the state.
00:13:04.460Walls' administration went to great lengths to intrude on the privacy of his citizens during the pandemic.
00:13:08.780In March 2020, Walls implemented a COVID-19 hotline, which encouraged Minnesotans to report violations of state lockdown orders.
00:13:15.340The information you leave is considered public information.
00:13:18.340At the tone, please leave the following information.
00:13:20.840Your name, your callback number, how the stay-at-home order is being violated, and where the stay-at-home order was violated.
00:13:31.280This so-called snitch line was operational from March 2020 until June 2022.
00:13:35.820The hotline generated thousands of reports from residents who reported their neighbors for dangerous, scary activities like walking their dogs, playing basketball, not wearing masks,
00:13:44.600making non-essential purchases, and hosting church services that did not meet legal requirements set by Walls' orders.
00:13:50.140Today, of course, Walls claims the essence of Minnesota Nice is minding your own damn business.
00:13:54.920There's a golden rule. Mind your own damn business.
00:13:59.560In Minnesota, we respect our neighbors and their personal choices that they make.
00:14:04.220Walls' administration also implemented an unconstitutional, unethical, DEI-based approach to rationing COVID-19 treatments, prioritizing patients based on race.
00:14:12.060Under Walls' watch, the Minnesota Department of Health adopted an ethical framework that explicitly gave preference to non-white residents for monoclonal antibody treatments.
00:14:21.160This framework was based on non-binding FDA guidance suggesting that race could be a risk factor for severe COVID-19 outcomes.
00:14:26.900The policy, for example, prioritized black 18-year-olds over elderly white people.
00:14:30.600The state's rationing plan, part of the Minnesota Resource Allocation Platform, assigned points for various risk factors, with racial minorities automatically receiving two points.
00:14:39.580This meant that being a racial minority could elevate someone's priority for receiving scarce COVID-19 treatments, even if they were at lower overall risk compared to elderly or immunocompromised patients.
00:14:49.120The America First Legal Advocacy Group challenged the system, highlighting that race is not a medical condition like hypertension or heart disease, which are legitimate risk factors for severe COVID-19 outcomes.
00:14:58.160The policy was eventually scrapped after legal threats and public outcry.
00:15:01.260Every major issue that arose during Walls' governorship was met with gross incompetence.
00:15:05.300The handling of the riots following the killing of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, was no different.
00:15:10.080The response from state and local authorities was sluggish and ineffective.
00:15:13.440Walls admitted to an abject failure in the response to the riots.
00:15:16.240There weren't any police there. There weren't any firefighters.
00:15:19.120There was no social control, and her constituents were locked in their house wondering what they were going to do.
00:15:24.860That is an abject failure that cannot happen.
00:15:28.000The delayed deployment of the National Guard, along with a lack of clear directives, fueled the chaos.
00:15:32.100Minneapolis police were overwhelmed by the scale of the unrest, which included mass looting, arson, and violence.
00:15:37.120Minneapolis Police Chief Maderia Rodonzo and Mayor Jacob Frey both acknowledged that their forces were overcome by the scale and intensity of the unrest.
00:15:44.420The failure to evacuate the third precinct before it was set on fire further highlighted the poor coordination between authorities.
00:15:50.840Minneapolis Fire Chief John Freudel was unaware of the fire until informed by a CNN host, highlighting the communication breakdowns that plagued the response efforts, all due to the governor's absence of leadership.
00:16:01.300Walls' decision to delay the National Guard deployment was a massive mistake.
00:16:05.060By the time the National Guard was mobilized and arrived on the scene, the damage had already been done.
00:18:15.800And I kept the windows open for as long as I could because I felt like that was such a touchstone of what was happening.
00:18:22.620That's a bit of white privilege for you.
00:18:24.220During the peak of the riots, when Minneapolis was engulfed in chaos, buildings burning, businesses being looted, people suffering, resulting in an estimated $2 billion in damage nationwide,
00:18:32.640Gwen Walls kept the windows of the governor's mansion open as long as she could to smell the burning tires so she could suffer along with her people.
00:18:40.520That may be in the race for the most elitist, tone-deaf response to a crisis in modern history.
00:20:08.260I understand clearly there is no trust in many of our communities.
00:20:13.120And I will not patronize you as a white man without living those lived experiences of how very difficult that is.
00:20:19.320And I refuse to have it take away the attention of the stain that we need to be working on is what happened with those fundamental institutional racism that allows a man to be held down in broad daylight.
00:20:33.960And thank God a young person had a camera to video it.
00:20:37.920In June 2020, a group of protesters led by members of the American Indian Movement toppled a statue of Christopher Columbus outside the Minnesota state capitol.
00:20:44.660These vandals, who considered Columbus a symbol of genocide against Native Americans, pulled down the statue with ropes.
00:20:50.320Walls was aware ahead of time that groups might attempt to tear down the statue.
00:20:53.100But when the incident occurred, law enforcement was criticized for not intervening.
00:20:56.340Walls' commissioner of the Department of Public Safety later told the press law enforcement was, quote, not able to get out there in time.
00:21:02.320Sure, it was literally right outside the state capitol.
00:21:05.460At a press conference, Walls stated that while he did not condone the act of toppling the statue and warned there would be consequences for those involved,
00:21:11.340he also expressed understanding for the protesters' actions.
00:21:13.680In a statement, he noted that the protesters had, quote,
00:21:16.060legitimate concerns regarding Columbus's legacy and the ongoing issues faced by indigenous communities.
00:21:21.360Republican Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka made the link to other leadership failures during the Black Lives Matter riots.
00:21:26.420Gazelka stated the governor didn't protect the third precinct.
00:21:28.780He didn't protect businesses on Lake Street.
00:21:30.440The lieutenant governor condoned the destruction of public property.
00:21:32.800Mike Forcia, the activist who led the toppling of the statue, was charged with felony criminal damage to property.
00:21:37.320However, in a deal with prosecutors, he avoided trial and received a sentence of 100 hours of community service.
00:21:42.040That sentence falls right in line with how Tim Walls deals with criminals.
00:21:45.140A society that does not put equity and inclusion at the center of it is certainly going to eventually come to the places where we're at.
00:21:52.740Following the riots themselves, the trial of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer charged with the murder of George Floyd,
00:21:58.500was one of the most high-profile cases in recent history.
00:22:01.620Tim Walls' management of the case and the surrounding environment was as mishandled as the riots themselves.
00:22:05.400From the beginning, Walls' administration failed to ensure an impartial and fair trial for Derek Chauvin.
00:22:13.100The extensive pretrial publicity and the public pressure for conviction compromised the integrity of the judicial process without a doubt.
00:22:19.880Additionally, Walls' public statements did nothing to address concerns about due process for Chauvin.
00:22:24.300By transferring the prosecution to Attorney General Keith Ellison, known for his progressive views,
00:22:28.320Walls bowed to public pressure and to the left.
00:22:30.540Walls ultimately called Chauvin's conviction a critical step towards justice and used the momentum to push for legislative changes aimed at the police.
00:22:37.500In the wake of the Chauvin trial and the subsequent shooting of Daunte Wright, Walls failed any and all tests in public safety.
00:22:43.480George Floyd's death and our justice system's conviction gives us that small place to believe we can make the difference.
00:22:52.980As time went on, failures from the pandemic continued to plague Walls.
00:22:55.800At his doorstep landed the Feeding Our Future scandal, one of the largest pandemic-related fraud cases in the entire nation.
00:23:01.880The scheme involved the embezzlement of $250 million from federal child nutrition programs meant to feed low-income kids during the COVID-19 pandemic.
00:23:09.560Federal prosecutors have charged dozens of individuals associated with Feeding Our Future,
00:23:13.620alleging they used the funds for personal luxuries like jewelry and property instead of, you know, feeding kids.
00:23:18.360An audit revealed that Tim Walls' Minnesota Department of Education failed to act on warning signs and did not perform adequate due diligence on high-risk applicants.
00:23:26.560The controversy deepened when Ramsey County Judge John Guthman issued a statement disputing Walls' public characterization of the court's role.
00:23:33.440Walls had suggested the court force the Minnesota Department of Education to resume payments to Feeding Our Future after they were suspended due to suspicions of fraud.
00:23:40.220He described being speechless when Judge Guthman ruled in favor of the organization in April 2021,
00:23:45.020implying the court's decision left the state with no choice but to continue the payments.
00:23:48.360We respected the judge's decision, but I could, and yes, on this one, I can tell you, I was speechless.
00:23:56.720He never ordered the MDE to resume payments.
00:23:58.740Instead, he said the department resumed payments voluntarily,
00:24:01.760although they were threatened with sanctions and legal penalties if they did not comply.
00:24:04.760In June 2021, the judge found the MDE in contempt of court for failing to process Feeding Our Future's applications in a timely manner
00:24:11.160and ordered the department to pay sanctions.
00:24:13.200Once again, Tim Walls' administration was found negligent and lacked transparency in handling its cases.
00:24:17.660Once again, Tim Walls lacked leadership and displayed a failure to take action.
00:24:21.260Once again, as per the usual, Tim Walls failed.
00:24:24.460In addition to his many failures, Tim Walls' tenure was characterized by a hard turn toward the extreme left.
00:24:29.120He pledged to go net zero on the electric grid by 2040, radically increasing the cost structure for energy.
00:24:34.000Walls' policies on gun control, criminal justice reform, and social issues reflected his increasing bow to the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.
00:24:41.340Despite all of this, Walls secured re-election in 2022 with a lower share of the vote
00:24:45.620and pushed through significant legislative changes with the Democratic majority in the state legislature.
00:24:49.820His administration passed a $17.5 billion budget that included overreach and overspending on education,
00:24:54.920infrastructure, and progressive priorities like universal free school meals, abortion rights protections, and a statewide paid leave program.
00:25:02.020In 2023, Walls advanced several pieces of legislation that expanded benefits for illegal immigrants.
00:25:06.620One significant legislative move was to offer tuition-free public college education for undocumented immigrants
00:25:11.680from families earning less than $80,000 annually.
00:25:14.060Additionally, Walls signed a bill allowing illegal immigrants to obtain driver's licenses,
00:25:17.740a move he pretended to enact as a measure to enhance road safety.
