00:00:00.000 Also, you don't really need a kitchen with an air fryer.
00:00:02.140 You could kind of stay in a hotel and use an air fryer.
00:00:04.320 You have to be a little sneaky because it can get kind of smoky,
00:00:06.720 so it's better to get a hotel where you can cook outside of the room
00:00:10.620 with a little patio, hotel, patio, air fryer, suitcase full of meat.
00:00:14.500 Girls gotta do what a girl's gotta do to not have arthritis.
00:00:23.740 This episode is brought to you by Better Fed Beef,
00:00:26.060 where I get my meat, given I only eat meat
00:00:28.620 and have only eaten beef or lamb or bison for the last five years,
00:00:31.900 I should be one of the most knowledgeable sources of what beef to eat in the world.
00:00:36.120 What percentage of the world has eaten more beef than me?
00:00:38.720 Just my dad?
00:00:39.560 Anyway, I get my beef from BetterFed.
00:00:42.000 BetterFed Beef is a direct-to-consumer beef company
00:00:44.300 producing a specialized product called Certified Anya Beef.
00:00:48.500 Anya beef is like Wagyu, but they're nice to the animals.
00:00:51.600 Super tender meat.
00:00:52.580 I have a massive discount code for you guys,
00:00:54.720 which is good for this episode because we're doing everything carnivore,
00:00:57.480 but you can get 25% off your order,
00:00:59.900 which is huge for a meat company.
00:01:01.980 When you go to betterfedbeef.com and use code MP,
00:01:05.120 betterfedbeef.com, code MP for 25% off.
00:01:08.380 That's a massive amount saved.
00:01:09.880 I'm really not sure how they're making any money.
00:01:11.980 Look at this bad boy.
00:01:12.940 This is what you get.
00:01:14.180 Look at this. 0.99
00:01:15.040 You could kill somebody with this thing. 0.98
00:01:16.880 Anyway, I usually get tomahawks, ribs. 0.76
00:01:19.540 Their bone marrow is so good.
00:01:21.140 Stripped loins are good.
00:01:22.160 Rib eyes are good.
00:01:23.180 They also have things like oxtail and liver.
00:01:25.400 Check them out, betterfedbeef.com.
00:01:27.480 code MP for 25% off your order. Hey there, I'm Michaela Peterson. Welcome to my channel.
00:01:41.740 You guys may have noticed that I look slightly different. It's because I fixed the focal length
00:01:46.340 on my cameras. Technically my husband did. And now I look less like a fish. This is what I
00:01:51.440 actually look like. Anyway, I'm coming up on five years on the lion diet. Can you believe that?
00:01:58.260 Five years of only eating beef, lamb, bison, salt, and water with the occasional vodka slash bourbon.
00:02:05.300 I'll get into that later. As many of you guys know, I came across this diet out of desperation
00:02:10.320 when I had come off of psychiatric medications trying to get my depression under control and my
00:02:15.760 juvenile idiopathic arthritis that left me with a hip and ankle replacement at 17 under control
00:02:21.240 because the medical system was not doing it for me.
00:02:23.540 So I stopped taking all my medication
00:02:25.600 after I went on the paleo diet when I was 23.
00:02:29.160 Very restrictive paleo diet.
00:02:31.200 No nuts, dairy, eggs, very limited fruit,
00:02:35.360 mostly meat and greens.
00:02:36.520 That got rid of all my symptoms
00:02:37.840 until I came off of psychiatric medications way too quickly.
00:02:41.700 I cold turkey, stopped taking antidepressants
00:02:44.360 after being medicated from the age of 12 to 23.
00:02:47.100 That was horrific.
00:02:48.440 I didn't even know I was an antidepressant withdrawal
00:02:50.580 for a number of years until my dad experienced the same thing and that's what led me to the lion
00:02:55.140 diet and i've been on the lion diet since december 2017 to keep my autoimmune disorder under control
00:03:01.380 in remission i do not take any medication and i have no arthritic symptoms and to keep my
00:03:07.220 psychiatric conditions in remission because i was extremely extremely extremely depressed i had ocd
00:03:13.860 symptoms was diagnosed with bipolar and i was on a lot of different medications and i was absolutely
00:03:19.560 miserable. And I'm medication-free, no longer an antidepressant withdrawal, and I attribute almost
00:03:24.440 all of my success to the Lion Diet. So if people are interested in it, I have a ton of free
00:03:29.720 information up at liondiet.com. I have recipes. You can kind of look into my blog to see how I got
00:03:36.440 to where I am now. I have an FAQ, a very extensive FAQ on there to help people start the diet. I also
00:03:42.660 have a couple of Facebook groups, Don't Eat That, for kind of elimination diets, health-minded people,
00:03:48.240 and the lion diet for people who are specifically on this diet, who need a group of people who
00:03:53.880 aren't going to judge them while they're doing all beef, all lamb, all bison, which can elicit
00:03:59.460 some strange stares and remarks. Anyway, I'm going to do a Q&A because I thought, why not? It's been
00:04:05.260 five years. Does the quality of meat affect your body, i.e. does it need to be grass-fed slash
00:04:10.420 organic? I do not eat grass-fed meat very often. I don't really like how it tastes compared to not
00:04:16.140 grass-fed meat. What I don't eat is aged meat. Aged meat gives me digestive problems. If I eat
00:04:23.280 aged meat, my stomach hurts almost 15 or 20 minutes after eating it. I've got a very sensitive
00:04:28.440 digestion, but histamine intolerance is something that's fairly common on a carnivorous diet, and
00:04:33.980 histamine intolerance is when you react basically to aged meat. That's a very simplified way, but
00:04:39.340 that's how I'm going to describe it. So I eat lamb and bison, which are generally lower in histamine
00:04:44.160 and aren't aged as long.
00:04:46.100 And I eat beef from Better Fed, whom I love.
00:04:49.960 That's mostly where I get my meat.
00:04:51.340 And then White Oak Pastures has unaged beef
00:04:53.980 and so does Billy Doe.
00:04:55.320 So if you start the carnivore diet
00:04:57.240 and you're having like urgency issues
00:04:59.960 or bloating after you eat meat,
00:05:02.340 it could be because your body doesn't like aged meat.
00:05:04.900 So I tell everyone to eat unaged meat,
00:05:08.260 at least at the beginning.
00:05:09.320 So lamb and bison,
00:05:10.460 you're pretty much good at the grocery store
00:05:11.920 and beef, you have to go searching for it
00:05:13.740 from the companies that I just mentioned.
00:05:15.580 Everything electrolytes.
00:05:16.820 How to move fully into Lyon
00:05:18.360 avoiding electrolyte imbalance slash cramps.
00:05:20.740 So when I started the diet,
00:05:22.900 I just went to beef and salt and water
00:05:25.040 and I didn't know anything about electrolytes.
00:05:27.100 I was trying to eliminate any variable
00:05:28.760 that could be causing autoimmunity.
00:05:31.140 And so I suffered fairly badly
00:05:35.080 from electrolyte imbalances around month five.
00:05:38.540 I started waking up at night
00:05:39.600 because my calf was cramping.
00:05:41.100 and calf cramps, they hurt a lot. And I was too worried about introducing anything because of
00:05:47.740 these massive autoimmune reactions I would have to food or to even pills or medication, just
00:05:53.440 anything that I just dealt with it. Almost a year into the lion diet, I realized that sodium,
00:05:59.860 potassium, magnesium levels, especially at the beginning of the diet are super important. I found
00:06:04.820 I needed a lot of sodium, about a third potassium and less magnesium than that. Some people need
00:06:09.600 more potassium you kind of have to play around with it. I would say just add salt at the beginning
00:06:13.800 a lot of salt to your diet and then if the cramps come start playing around by adding in potassium
00:06:19.900 and adding in magnesium and unfortunately it's pretty different per person. I tried like a third
00:06:24.880 potassium that's kind of what worked for me so you can try that but even without electrolytes
00:06:30.020 the muscle cramps and electrolyte imbalances do go away. You don't need these electrolytes forever
00:06:35.300 but at the beginning of the diet it really really really does help. Do you take any supplements
00:06:39.560 or eat organs. So one of the things that really pisses me off about the carnivore community is
00:06:45.560 you have charlatans in here that are scamming people. And I mean, any diet sphere, you end up 0.71
00:06:52.180 with charlatans scamming people. But I feel like if I've only been eating beef and lamb and bison
00:06:59.600 and salt and water for five years, then I can pretty safely say that you don't really need
00:07:05.960 organs. I don't eat organs. I don't take organ supplements. I think if you have an aversion to
00:07:10.480 eating organs, like if you eat liver and you're like, then you shouldn't be just putting it in
00:07:15.540 a pill and forcing it down. So I don't think you need organs. There, I said it. Do you ever crave
00:07:21.100 sweets like fruit, mango, pineapples, and berries? No, no. I don't really get cravings anymore. I
00:07:26.920 have managed to reintroduce wild fish. I don't eat wild fish very often because I seem to just
00:07:32.020 be hungry after I eat it. But it's nice to be able to go out to a restaurant and order sashimi. I can
00:07:36.380 eat a little bit of honey, so that's exciting. Have I managed to introduce anything else like fruit?
00:07:41.660 Absolutely not. I still get autoimmune symptoms if I introduce fruit. I get autoimmune symptoms
00:07:46.900 if I eat chicken. Pork is even worse. I cannot tolerate pork at all. I have a worse reaction to
00:07:52.880 pork than I do to some fruit. Like I'd rather be eating apples than eating pork. How severe are
00:07:58.640 your symptoms if you eat only a little outside of your all-meat diet. It's totally dependent on the
00:08:03.780 food. If I had something containing gluten, very severe. If I have something containing soy, like
00:08:09.440 I was on tour with dad earlier this year and we went out for lamb and they cooked the lamb with
00:08:14.460 olive oil, but the olive oil was like 70% soybean oil. Tons of restaurants cheap out and they cut
00:08:20.420 their olive oil with 70% soybean oil. It's disgusting. And they call it olive oil. You're
00:08:24.820 still allowed to call it olive oil be careful of your olive oils guy anyway i had some of the lamb
00:08:29.160 and i was like okay this tastes a little weird because you can taste everything if all you eat
00:08:33.000 is meat for five years you can like if there's a pepper flake on my lamb like that's pepper i don't
00:08:39.040 eat spice i know what spice tastes like anyway i had a pretty bad reaction to just a couple of
00:08:44.200 lollipop pieces of lamb that had soybean oil on them but i'm almost deathly allergic to soy so
00:08:50.480 that's not that surprising. I was sick for about a week. I was, I cried the next day. I felt horrible.
00:08:56.220 I had this overwhelming sense of doom and it makes me weepy and my joints hurt and my skin broke out
00:09:01.480 and it lasted for about a week. Now, last week I tried to reintroduce these sausages that are like
00:09:08.040 fresh beef fat salt sausages. They were so good, but about five days into eating them, I started
00:09:17.760 not to feel so good and I realized they were smoked so I can't do smoked meat at all um
00:09:23.400 yeah I don't know how to explain these things guys I don't know but I can't do smoked meat
00:09:29.160 so then my skin broke out a little bit I'm feeling better that only lasted about 36 or 48 hours so
00:09:34.460 it was only like two days so my reactions seem to last from two days to a week a week if they're
00:09:40.040 severe and about two days for for normal ones that's really not that bad that's not catastrophic
00:09:45.400 When I first started the diet, when I went off of psych meds and I was in psych med withdrawal,
00:09:50.140 I had horrifying reactions that would last for an entire month.
00:09:53.500 And they would get worse for 10 days after I stopped eating the food that I was eating.
00:09:56.660 I couldn't believe it.
00:09:57.480 I kept track of my symptoms in a book because I thought I was crazy.
00:10:00.620 It'd just get worse and worse and worse.
00:10:02.700 And I attribute that now that I know to psych med withdrawal.
00:10:06.140 I thought that I just had hypersensitivity to carbs because of my autoimmunity,
00:10:09.980 but it was definitely combined with psych med withdrawal.
00:10:11.960 and there are stories all over the internet about people experiencing psych med withdrawal symptoms
00:10:16.000 that I had, which was like hallucinations, feeling of falling, overwhelming sense of doom. I couldn't
00:10:21.520 see colors very well. I couldn't sleep. It was horrible. I don't even want to get into psych meds.
00:10:26.160 That's a whole other video, but now my reactions are quite... They're not pleasant. The 36 hours
00:10:32.080 even after having the smoked sausages was not pleasant at all. I think I cried once. And I'm
00:10:37.040 not a crier. I am not a crier. I think I cried once, but then it went away in 48 hours. That's
00:10:41.420 not so bad. It's not as scary as a month. Ooh, okay. Can you do a what I eat in a day? Okay,
00:10:48.200 what do I eat in a day? So this morning I had cold ribs from last night and I'm going to have
00:10:53.440 crunchy things this evening. And crunchy things, this is a recipe I came up with. You get pretty
00:10:58.500 creative, I guess, if you've only been eating meat for a number of years. I came up with this recipe.
00:11:02.660 You can take any cut of beef or lamb, any cut of meat, as long as there's not ground meat. So any
00:11:07.840 cut of meat that isn't ground meat and pressure cook it until you can shred it into bits and then
00:11:12.180 pour all those shredded bits without the water obviously into an air fryer add tallow which is
00:11:17.540 beef fat so add some sort of fat and then air fry it with salt and you get shredded crunchy things
00:11:23.880 that are just god's greatest gift and if you haven't had them you might scoff at it but you
00:11:28.120 would be wrong and you should try them those kind of recipes are available for free on liondiet.com
00:11:34.260 I would just only eat crunchy things for my entire life.
00:11:38.740 Yeah, I also sometimes eat jerky.
00:11:41.240 So I'd say the average day is either a steak around noon
00:11:44.360 and another steak at around 5 p.m.
00:11:46.920 or leftover ribs and crunchy things.
00:11:50.920 A year ago, my average day looked like lamb sausage
00:11:53.700 and that's just lamb and salt.
00:11:55.540 A lamb sausage in the morning
00:11:56.660 and then I just ate jerky for the rest of the day.
00:11:58.940 So just a lamb sausage jerky diet.
00:12:01.080 I love jerky.
00:12:01.900 people are like, will you just eat just beef for breakfast? Like either no breakfast or yes. Or
00:12:06.740 lamb. Dinner? Beef or lamb. Lunch? Beef or lamb. Sometimes bison is thrown in there. Sometimes I
00:12:11.760 get wild and eat crunchy things, but it's all beef or lamb or salt. Jordan Peterson, my dad,
00:12:17.180 his average day is like steak, strip loin steak, strip loin steak, strip loin steak. He's a lot too.
00:12:23.300 He probably eats three and a half or four pounds of meat a day. He's a beast. So just steaks,
00:12:27.340 but I definitely recommend eating crunchy bits. Crunchy things?
00:12:33.220 Crunchy things is probably a better name. Crunchy things. Is it possible for someone who has a
00:12:38.220 normal income to do this diet? Meat is expensive, is it not? And what about travel? Okay, multi-part
00:12:44.280 question. So it's totally possible to do this on a very low budget. It can be way cheaper than
00:12:49.800 eating the standard American diet. What you want to do is you want to go to a butcher or go to your
00:12:53.620 meat department and just buy the cheap cuts. Doesn't matter what they are. Buy the cheap cuts.
00:12:58.480 You could survive off of tongue if you needed to. That's dirt cheap. And if you go to my handy
00:13:03.060 website, liondiet.com, there is a recipe for crunchy things. And you can literally make the
00:13:07.640 most garbage cuts into delicious, crispy things by adding fat. So you can buy fat from a butcher.
00:13:13.720 Fat is really cheap. They commonly cut fat off of cuts and throw it away. So make friends with
00:13:19.140 butcher, buy fat, buy the cheap cuts. You can do heart too. You can do organs. I know I just
00:13:25.000 talked down to organs, but like heart is, it's a, it's a muscle and tongue is a muscle. So that's
00:13:30.700 still muscle meat. Basically get the cheap cuts, add fat, get a pressure cooker and an air fryer
00:13:35.300 and you're set. Hey, and the pressure cooker and air fire are an upfront expense at the beginning
00:13:40.260 of the diet. They will save you so much time and they'll make your food so good. It's really worth
00:13:45.140 investing into them, but you don't have to have a bunch of money to do this diet. It can be very
00:13:48.800 cheap and it makes you healthier. You should do it, especially if you're sick. Travel, okay, because I
00:13:53.780 have histamine intolerance and I can't eat aged meat, travel's a bit tricky because going out to
00:13:58.460 restaurants and eating steak isn't an option because steak is always aged at restaurants. So I
00:14:03.260 can either go out and eat lamb. That's insanely expensive. Now, generally speaking, I literally
00:14:08.800 take an air fryer, Ninja XXL, sponsor me, put it in a suitcase, put it under the plane and air fry
00:14:15.360 at the Airbnb. That's usually what I do. It's not super glamorous. I've also been known with my
00:14:20.300 husband to just pack a bunch of frozen meat in a suitcase and bring it with me with my air fryer.
00:14:25.960 You're like, what? That's not fun. Yeah, but you know what's less fun? Having an autoimmune disorder
00:14:31.980 and being crazy. That's way less fun. Plus, it's kind of hilarious to pack a suitcase full of meat
00:14:37.640 with an air fryer and then bring it to an Airbnb. You can also do long-term hotels. So if you're
00:14:42.560 to stay somewhere for a week than there are hotels that have kitchens in them. Also, you don't really
00:14:46.940 need a kitchen with an air fryer. You could kind of stay in a hotel and use an air fryer. You have
00:14:50.580 to be a little sneaky because it can get kind of smoky, so it's better to get a hotel where you can
00:14:54.660 cook outside of the room with a little patio, hotel, patio, air fryer, suitcase full of meat.
00:15:00.580 Girls gotta do what a girl's gotta do to not have arthritis. This episode is brought to you by
00:15:05.140 Schwank Grills. Appropriately chosen ads for a carnivore episode, don't you think? Schwank
00:15:09.700 grills are the secret behind high-end steakhouse style steaks. These grills use patented infrared
00:15:14.420 technology to reach temperatures up to 1500 degrees allowing you to cook the perfectly
00:15:19.220 seared steak. To put this in perspective most grills only reach around 600 degrees so if you're
00:15:23.820 struggling to cook a good steak that might be part of the problem. The high temperature of the
00:15:27.620 schwenk grill makes a massive difference to the taste and tenderness of the steak and the crunchy
00:15:32.280 outside which is the best part. I just really want to eat the crunch on steaks. I can personally say
00:15:37.840 this grill does a fantastic job with both crunchiness and tenderness and i've tried a ton
00:15:42.380 of different grills like most grills out there tried everything you get bored only eating meat
00:15:46.900 so you try everything this month is my five-year lion diet anniversary and to celebrate schwank
00:15:51.640 grills created an exclusive offer just for you guys right now schwank grills are giving the
00:15:56.300 biggest discount they've ever done with 255 off when you use code mp255 at checkout i haven't
00:16:04.460 seen a deal that good from Schwank Grills. So if you've been considering buying one of these grills
00:16:09.840 or getting someone a grill for Christmas, now is probably a good time. $255 off is a good deal.
00:16:15.600 You can get that with code MP255 at schwankgrills.com. Can you take supplements or do they
00:16:22.500 activate your AI disease? I kind of like that, activate your AI disease. Can I take supplements?
00:16:28.140 no so i can take unflavored electrolytes which is why i'm making a version for people that's just
00:16:35.720 sodium potassium magnesium and nothing else and if i'm fasting or even intermittent fasting that
00:16:40.520 makes me feel better there's one other thing i can take barely i've tried like i got covid a
00:16:45.120 couple of times so this diet wasn't like now i never get sick i have a toddler she gets me sick
00:16:49.640 all the time so i don't get like deathly ill or anything and covid was fine it was covid but i
00:16:55.300 did get it three times i traveled around a lot though um no anyway i was getting i was in tennessee
00:17:00.560 last year okay so we moved to tennessee and i've got terrible tree allergies and the diets helped
00:17:06.560 my environmental allergies but it has not gotten rid of my environmental allergies for sure i am
00:17:11.520 so allergic to everything it's crazy and i used to be so allergic to everything that i was dying
00:17:16.020 now i'm just so allergic to everything but in tennessee i was getting sick and i was getting
00:17:20.120 bronchitis repeatedly and i was like what is happening i feel like i'm a kid again because
00:17:24.540 That used to happen all the time when I was a kid.
00:17:26.200 My daughter was getting bronchitis all the time
00:17:28.300 and it was because tree allergies in Tennessee
00:17:30.340 were so severe, it brought back my asthma.
00:17:32.760 So I tried to take zinc out of like desperation.
00:17:36.780 I was like, maybe zinc will stop me from getting sick.
00:17:39.560 This is before I knew it was tree allergies,
00:17:41.240 exacerbating the asthma, giving me bronchitis
00:17:43.400 whenever I got a cold.
00:17:44.540 Even honey, I can't sleep if I take that at night.
00:17:46.780 I can't take zinc.
00:17:47.720 I can't really take vitamin C at night.
00:17:50.320 The only things I can kind of take,
00:17:51.880 I can take a little bit of vitamin C
00:17:53.440 just for like the sour flavor, just to get some flavor.
00:17:56.200 That seems to be fine.
00:17:57.460 I just don't take it at night.
00:17:58.620 And then I take this when I drink.
00:18:00.880 You're like, oh no, she drinks.
00:18:02.320 How could she drink?
00:18:03.380 So I don't drink very often.
00:18:05.100 I used to drink way more when I was sick.
00:18:07.140 I drank so much.
00:18:08.320 I don't drink very often
00:18:09.520 because the hangovers are just brutal
00:18:12.320 when you don't have any carbs.
00:18:14.140 And I get tired when I drink now.
00:18:16.220 It used to energize me when I was sick
00:18:18.160 and now I just get tired.
00:18:19.540 So I don't drink very often.
00:18:20.640 But when I do drink, I drink vodka.
00:18:22.140 I like Tito's or bourbon. And those are the only two hard alcohols that I'm aware of where they
00:18:28.800 don't add extra ingredients after distilling. So gin, they add botanicals after distilling.
00:18:35.900 Scotch, a lot of the time they add caramel coloring. They don't in bourbon. It's just
00:18:40.320 distilled. Vodka, it's just distilled. Unless you're in Russia and then they add sugar and
00:18:44.780 botanicals like gin. Silver tequila also, no ingredients added after distillation. So those
00:18:51.380 three alcohols silver tequila bourbon and vodka that isn't russian they don't give me any auto
00:18:57.160 immune symptoms they just give me a severe hangover and for those hangovers i take a
00:19:01.440 supplement called dihydromyricotin which i'm also producing because i've been taking it for like 10
00:19:06.360 years when i drink way before i started dieting which is why i know it works i'll get into it a
00:19:10.740 little bit they did this it's because it's i think it's funny when i was 20 i was dying from a hangover
00:19:15.420 and from being unbelievably ill.
00:19:17.760 And I was like, how can it be 20, what, I guess 12?
00:19:21.140 How can we not have a hangover cure?
00:19:22.960 It's 2012.
00:19:24.240 And so I started researching
00:19:25.260 and I found this herb called dihydromyricotin.
00:19:28.460 And I looked at the study
00:19:30.140 and it was a study done on rats.
00:19:31.940 So what they did to these poor rats
00:19:33.680 is they just pumped them full of alcohol.
00:19:36.400 So they had rats that were pumped full of alcohol
00:19:38.560 and then the rats that were pumped full of alcohol
00:19:40.440 and dihydromyricotin and they ran tests on them.
00:19:42.940 So one of the tests was you drop them in water and you see which one just gives up faster.
00:19:48.340 So the rat that had alcohol and dihydromyricotin swam longer, significantly longer than the rat that was just drunk.
00:19:57.260 They did another test where you just put the rats on their back and see which one flips over faster.
00:20:03.240 And the rat with dihydromyricotin flipped over faster.
00:20:05.920 And then the third test was they ran rats through a maze.
00:20:08.460 so hungover rats will just kind of like shiver in a corner instead of going to get the cheese or
00:20:12.940 whatever the treat is in the maze and rats given dihydromyricotin so rather than being hungover
00:20:19.540 they had they were hungover with dihydromyricotin they weren't as shivery and scared and they went
00:20:24.500 to get the treat faster so i read that study and i was like well that sounds like me when i'm hung
00:20:30.060 over shivering in a corner i started trying to buy this dihydromyricotin which was very difficult
00:20:35.340 to find. And then I spent a couple years figuring out what dose to take. Anyway, I've made it into
00:20:40.480 a supplement called After Party, which is launching soon. So I do take that, but I only take it when
00:20:45.860 I'm drinking. It helps break down acetaldehyde, which is the toxic byproduct of alcohol. And it
00:20:50.740 works weekly on GABA. So part of what alcohol does is it desensitizes your GABA receptors. That's
00:20:56.640 part of what it does, right? Floods your brain with some GABA, which makes you feel good. And
00:21:01.200 then the next day you're kind of anxious because your receptors are a little desensitized. It
00:21:05.240 works weekly on GABA. So it works in two ways. Helps you detoxify by breaking down acetaldehyde
00:21:11.020 and it works weekly on GABA. If you take it at a high enough dose, a lot of the supplements on the
00:21:15.280 market are low dose and they just don't work. Anyway, that's coming out soon. So I do take that
00:21:19.680 supplement, but that has nothing to do with my autoimmune disorder. That's just because occasionally
00:21:22.980 I drink and drinking is bad for you. So you probably shouldn't do it, which means you don't
00:21:26.900 need the supplement. The only supplement I take that's actually for the diet is electrolytes. And
00:21:32.780 I don't take them very often anymore, but I should have taken them more at the beginning
00:21:35.600 of the diet.
00:21:36.860 There.
00:21:37.420 That was a long and drawn out answer.
00:21:39.740 Have your periods improved in any way on the lion diet?
00:21:42.400 Were they bad before?
00:21:43.800 So I always had like eight days, about eight day periods.
00:21:47.720 Now it's hard to say because I was also taking birth control for honestly from like 14 to
00:21:53.220 23 when I stopped taking my medications.
00:21:57.840 So I don't even know what a regular period would look like.
00:22:01.020 I know that before I went on birth control, I had pretty bad cramping. I have absolutely no
00:22:07.100 cramping now. So I would attribute that to diet, but it's also hard to say because I didn't
00:22:12.420 actually stop taking birth control until I started going on paleo and things. And even paleo really
00:22:18.420 improved my cycle. But my cycle's super normal and about six days long and absolutely no cramping.
00:22:27.280 Do you ever go off the lion diet? So no, never, never, ever, ever. And I never cheat because
00:22:33.900 nothing tastes as good as being healthy feels. And the repercussions for cheating for me are so
00:22:39.720 severe and so quick that it's just not worth it. Like, would you eat peanuts if you really like
00:22:45.080 peanuts if you had a peanut allergy? What if you really liked peanut butter? It's like asking that
00:22:50.500 kind of questions. Like, well, what if you really like fruit? Yeah, but I get arthritis and my skin
00:22:55.300 breaks out and then I cry all the time. No fruit tastes that good. What I am going to try right
00:23:00.820 away, I've had a number of theories about this diet over the years. You can check the blog but
00:23:05.400 I like went down the rabbit hole into everything. Especially before I came to diet I was looking at
00:23:10.760 everything and right now my theory is that I've got extremely severe environmental allergies and
00:23:15.820 I'm getting cross reactivity in plant food and I think it kind of makes sense with pork too because
00:23:22.000 i'm pretty sure let me just make sure that this is right yeah crazy okay okay so this actually
00:23:29.120 this actually seems like a good theory and i've um i know the owner of a pharmaceutical company who's
00:23:35.260 good at this kind of stuff and he said it makes sense so i think from being born through a c-section
00:23:41.140 and being put on antibiotics under the age of six months as a kid i think that just spiked my immune
00:23:48.320 system to react to absolutely everything. And I'm hoping and thinking that my environmental
00:23:53.120 allergies are so severe, I'm reacting to plant food. And this lines up with my serious sensitivity
00:23:58.760 to pork, which is like, why? Why would I have a reaction to pork? All I eat is like beef and lamb
00:24:04.860 and bison. Why does pork give me arthritis? If you have a cat allergy, you can have a cross
00:24:09.880 reactivity to pork. I'm so allergic to cats. It makes me hate cats. You go into someone's house
00:24:15.200 and I'm just like, ugh, oh, and they smell weird.
00:24:17.980 And I'm sure if I wasn't allergic to them,
00:24:19.480 I wouldn't feel that way, maybe.
00:24:21.000 But I think my environmental allergies are so severe,
00:24:23.880 I'm getting cross-reactivity to plant proteins,
00:24:26.840 pork proteins, and that's causing
00:24:28.620 just systemic inflammation.
00:24:30.560 And then there's this hypersensitivity reaction
00:24:32.780 where you can have, if you have leaky gut,
00:24:35.240 which can be caused,
00:24:36.320 especially if you're gluten intolerant,
00:24:38.240 your gut is very thin.
00:24:39.800 You can have permeability issues
00:24:41.220 where food proteins leak into your bloodstream
00:24:43.920 and then your body starts attacking these food proteins which they treat like bacteria or virus
00:24:50.960 they're not supposed to be in your blood you can say this is a little like food protein floating
00:24:55.240 around your blood your body can attach little antibodies all over it and then those can start
00:24:59.700 to build up in tissues if your body can't get rid of them fast enough if you keep ingesting these
00:25:04.740 foods so i think that's kind of what happened to me combined with this environmental allergy
00:25:08.960 theory. So say my theory is correct. Say I'm so allergic to the environment, which is true. I'm
00:25:14.400 so allergic to like grass, mold, tree, cockroaches. They test you for that. Dust mites, horses, cats,
00:25:20.660 dogs, anything with fur other than rabbits. Not entirely sure why. Just everything, which I think
00:25:27.460 is also why I'm allergic to smoke. I'm so allergic to smoke. If I go to a campfire and then I sleep
00:25:32.660 with the smoke in my hair, I wake up not being able to breathe the next morning. I'm like EpiPen
00:25:38.260 allergic to the world. It's nuts. Anyway, how do you desensitize yourself from environmental
00:25:43.120 allergies if you're allergic to everything? Well, I've come across a couple of companies
00:25:47.220 that do sublingual. So they take a little bit of the allergen. So I say like cat dander,
00:25:52.880 tiny, tiny little bit of cat dander, and they put it in glycerin. And I don't think I'm allergic
00:25:57.120 to glycerin. And then you put it under your tongue. You put like a drop in once a day.
00:26:01.400 And over a period of one to two years, theoretically, this helps or eliminates 80%
00:26:07.640 of people's environmental allergies. Everybody should know about this stuff. They used to do
00:26:12.000 allergy desensitization in shots, and you had to go into the doctor's office multiple times a week
00:26:17.040 and get shots. And now they have sublingual drops. And they've shown this to help people
00:26:22.200 with, say, peanut allergies, because kids will, like, die from these things. They'll hop on a
00:26:26.840 plane, they'll have a peanut allergy reaction, and they'll die. This has happened. And they're
00:26:31.200 starting to do this sublingual immunotherapy for kids who have severe food allergies. And I have,
00:26:36.400 you know, severe soy allergies and everything else. Anyway, that's my theory. So I'm going to
00:26:42.180 be trying desensitization therapy through sublingual drops, and I will keep you guys posted
00:26:47.020 because wouldn't that be crazy if this was environmental allergies the whole time that
00:26:51.740 were so severe that eating plants was giving me environmental allergies? Environmental allergies
00:26:56.680 systemically leading to an autoimmune disorder? Tell me about your teeth. So I actually have
00:27:05.520 veneers because my teeth were so bad when i was like 17 and i'm sure sure it was from diet i my
00:27:13.480 enamel wasn't very very damaged um that i got veneers my gums never bleed on this diet though
00:27:19.460 i used to have bleeding gums all the time and they stopped on this diet but i can't say that like
00:27:23.560 my beautiful white teeth are from this diet because i just paid for them were you pregnant
00:27:28.980 or nursing on this diet? Yes. I had a miserable pregnancy. I was horribly depressed the entire
00:27:35.520 time. I don't know if it was from the hormones or the antidepressant withdrawal or both. I went on
00:27:40.300 the diet five months into nursing when Scarlett was still nursing full-time. She hadn't introduced
00:27:44.980 any foods. And I switched over into the diet. I got more milk. Scarlett's cradle cap went away.
00:27:50.840 Obviously, I got better. That improved things. So yes. And there are people, Kelly Hogan,
00:27:56.340 she has hordes of children and she's on a carnivore diet she's not on the lion diet exactly she eats
00:28:02.240 a little bit more than that but she's on a carnivore diet and has lots of kids so there
00:28:05.560 are people out there that do this charlene anderson she used an all beef diet for lyme
00:28:12.380 disease she has multiple children that are also on the diet so yes if you have postpartum depression
00:28:17.840 i know a couple of people on the diet that it's helped postpartum depression a lot so
00:28:21.440 i'd say give it a shot no use living depressed living there's nothing worse than that
00:28:27.900 you know i know when you're depressed you think oh how could i go on a diet the only pleasure i
00:28:33.220 have is from food just do the diet don't live depressed especially if you've lived depressed
00:28:38.460 for like a decade or that's been your life forever that's so sad part of the reason i 0.96
00:28:43.600 talk about this stupid diet is because it's completely saved my life it saved my dad's life 0.98
00:28:51.620 it saved my mom's life my mom had really bad arthritis and a whole bunch of other issues 0.99
00:28:57.880 she thinks she would be dead without the diet she almost died anyway my dad would be dead 100
00:29:03.480 without the diet he needed it for psych med withdrawal and autoimmunity and it's just
00:29:10.040 there's nothing nothing as bad as mental health problems and i think a lot of them are exacerbated
00:29:16.280 by the psych meds that people are taking they're so dangerous and people don't understand withdrawal
00:29:21.400 or how dangerous they are i've seen this diet help tons of people and so if you're thinking
00:29:25.580 about doing it and you're depressed do it for six weeks it's not that long do it for six weeks and
00:29:30.620 then decide if you want to keep doing it at the six week part it's not that long okay it's a lot
00:29:36.320 less long than spending the rest of your life depressed do you miss eating socially so yes
00:29:43.760 but whenever i went out to eat i was always and i was taking antidepressants and this can be a
00:29:49.920 side effect of antidepressants but i was always starving and ravenous in kind of a hangry way
00:29:56.320 i'd eat and i'd still be hungry it wasn't that much fun i didn't eat you know i wasn't one of
00:30:00.960 those people that was like i'll have a bite of that cake and then i'll be done i'd have a bite
00:30:04.880 bite of that cake and I'd want to eat the whole cake. Or I'd have a bowl of pasta and I'd be so
00:30:08.900 full from eating this pasta. I had celiac disease too, so that didn't help. But I'd be so full from
00:30:13.680 eating this pasta and so hungry. I'd be on like the verge of tears. Eating out was my thing. Like
00:30:18.980 I ate out constantly. Sushi was my favorite food. I'm so allergic to soy, so I find that kind of
00:30:24.300 funny because I put soy on everything. I was a foodie. I hate that term, but I was a foodie.
00:30:29.320 And so do I miss it? I missed it. Terribly missed it for the first couple of years when I was in
00:30:33.640 coming off of medications and still very sensitive and having month-long reactions and
00:30:38.400 ridiculed by my friends. But it wasn't worth the autoimmune disorder or the mood disorder. So I
00:30:44.820 didn't really have a choice. So now do I miss it? Now I'm fortunate enough that I can go out and
00:30:49.360 eat at steakhouses if I want to go out. But honestly, I work all the time and don't really
00:30:53.920 go out to eat anymore. It's not a big part of my life anymore. Cookbook. Cookbook is coming. I just
00:30:59.380 don't want my first book to be a cookbook. That's a very fast answer to that question. I have a
00:31:02.960 memoir. I want to put that out first. For now, all the recipes are for free on liondiet.com.
00:31:07.940 Why'd I call it the lion diet? I called it the lion diet because it's not a cool diet and you're
00:31:13.200 a total dweeb when you're on it. Like you feel like a dweeb and you're socially weird and it's 0.97
00:31:19.220 really frustrating and you lose all your favorite foods and you're probably sick to begin with.
00:31:23.500 And I wanted this diet to have some sort of strong name and be cooler. Tried to make it cooler
00:31:28.600 because being sick sucks and the all beef diet just sounded so bad so I guess people might say 0.66
00:31:36.720 the lion diet is cringy but I know that you need a certain amount of strength in order to combat 0.86
00:31:42.540 chronic disease and you need that same kind of drive to do it without the medical system with
00:31:49.560 diet because that is so cutting edge and so new that people won't believe you and you need to be
00:31:54.380 strong. And I thought the lion diet kind of embodied that. And lions only eat meat. People
00:32:00.160 are like, well, lions don't eat salt. Ha ha. Are you eating raw meat like a lion? I'm not saying
00:32:05.980 I'm a lion, you nerds. Just call it the lion diet. Now, does that end my lion diet Q&A? Can I squish
00:32:11.860 one more in here? You have all your problems because you have chronic Lyme disease. What's
00:32:15.780 you think? What's you think? I think I was diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease. So that
00:32:19.920 could be true. Doesn't change anything though. Okay. Then this is, I could take a stab at this
00:32:24.580 one. Why is it that eating the lion diet cures what you were struggling with? So this is just
00:32:30.960 a guess because everything about most diets nowadays is just a guess, but I think I had
00:32:36.960 leaky gut. So I think my gut was damaged partially from having celiac disease and partially from
00:32:42.100 eating gut damaging foods and food was escaping into my blood, you know, like bacteria into that
00:32:46.920 food and those antibody antigen complexes were building up in my tissues and giving me arthritis.
00:32:52.360 I think that's what was giving me autoimmunity. And I know that it's been shown paleomedicina in
00:32:57.480 Hungary, might be medicina, paleomedicina, paleomedicina. They've showed that putting
00:33:02.840 people on an all ruminant meat diet stops gut permeability issues. It will seal your gut.
00:33:09.520 So that's part of it, at least, is if you only eat ruminant meat, you can heal gut damage. So
00:33:15.020 that's part of it. And then the other part of it, I think I'm actually allergic to plants. I'm
00:33:19.260 allergic to environmental plants. I'm allergic to grass. I'm allergic to grass and trees and like
00:33:25.140 flowers and weeds and everything outdoors. Why wouldn't I be allergic to plants as well? It's
00:33:30.120 not just from removing processed foods. A lot of people look at the diet and they're like, well,
00:33:34.640 if you had just removed processed foods, you'd be fine. And I did do that. I did that first because
00:33:40.540 that's more obvious. I removed everything I thought I could be allergic to, nuts, eggs, dairy, all
00:33:46.600 processed foods, grains, and went down to like meat and greens and fruit. I did that to begin with and
00:33:53.080 then I stopped taking antidepressants and I went off of all my medications and I got pregnant and
00:33:57.600 that stopped working, okay? So then I went to meat and lettuce. I was just eating meat and lettuce and
00:34:03.240 apple cider vinegar and olive oil, not olive oil cut with soybean oil, just pure olive oil, and that
00:34:08.560 was giving me an autoimmune disorder it wasn't until i dropped the literally lettuce apple cider
00:34:14.740 vinegar olive oil and went to the lion diet that my arthritis went away and my mood improved so
00:34:19.940 it's not from cutting processed foods it's more than that anyway i have theories about why it's
00:34:23.640 works gut permeability issues but i hope that if you're sick you give it a shot i've tried to put
00:34:29.160 everything i can for free on liondiet.com it's been five years and here i am
00:34:33.780 without scurvy and yeah i'm gonna go do a podcast hope you guys are doing well and if you need
00:34:42.400 a reason to try the diet do it just try it for six weeks join my facebook group people in there
00:34:47.340 are nice they will be nice to you they'll help walk you through it and everything's free i hope
00:34:53.020 this q a was helpful i'll do another one at some point i hope everyone's feeling good
00:35:03.780 You
