Summary

PM Mark Carney's trip to China has been an electoral disaster for the Liberal Party, and I'm here to talk about why. Today's episode is a mashup of my thoughts on the PM's disastrous trip, and why it's so bad for the party.

Transcript

00:00:00.000 I think it's safe to say at this point that Prime Minister Mark Carney's trip to China
00:00:04.800 has been an electoral disaster for the Liberal Party.
00:00:08.820 While, yes, there are many Canadians who are so anti-American and anti-Trump,
00:00:13.560 they will cheer on Carney and the Liberals for getting closer with the CCP in China,
00:00:18.580 I still think the vast majority of Canadians do not want us to become buddy-buddy
00:00:23.760 with the communist government in Beijing.
00:00:26.140 We're a persnickety bunch. We don't want closer ties with the government who
00:00:30.920 interferes in our elections, locks up our citizens, steals our intellectual property,
00:00:36.700 harasses Chinese Canadians on our soil and their families back home,
00:00:40.660 among many other behaviors that we will just file away as being kind of rude.
00:00:45.880 Yes, Donald Trump put a tariff on us. We also had tariffs on the Americans well before he put tariffs
00:00:51.760 on us. We can say his are bigger, but this is a situation that can be negotiated.
00:00:57.160 We can figure out a way of getting to zero tariffs or at least near zero tariffs.
00:01:01.880 Wasn't Carney the one who was making himself out to be some Trump whisperer and he was going to get
00:01:07.060 a deal done by this point to remove tariffs? Well, it's been like, what, like six months since he
00:01:12.840 promised he was going to get a deal done and it didn't happen. And now we're trying to get in bed
00:01:17.280 with Xi Jinping and the CCP. It's so stupid that this is the path that Carney is taking.
00:01:23.800 He could actually probably cut a deal with Trump where he says, let's partner up against China.
00:01:28.940 Let's drop our tariffs and let's basically cut them out of world trade by trading even more with one
00:01:33.540 another. I think that would be better. Maybe you'd have to make some concessions. We could probably
00:01:37.700 also make some demands. We could have gotten to something great, but instead we are going to beg
00:01:43.520 the Chinese to remove tariffs on canola oil in exchange for letting them continue to dump cheap
00:01:49.200 electric vehicles onto our markets, destroying our auto sector. That's already being destroyed
00:01:53.740 by the American tariffs and the fact that we have terrible taxes and regulations in this country.
00:01:58.520 But that is another issue for another day. I want to take you through some of the clips
00:02:02.540 from this disastrous trip, and then I want to talk about why this is so bad for the Liberal Party.
00:02:08.180 You can probably already guess why it's bad, but we'll get into it in more detail in just a second.
00:02:13.080 But before we get into it, I just want to remind you guys, if you like the channel,
00:02:17.040 make sure to leave a like on the video, leave a comment about what you think about this whole
00:02:21.200 situation, subscribe if you're not yet a subscriber, and if you want to go above and beyond in helping
00:02:26.320 the channel, you can hit the join button below the video and become a supporter of the channel
00:02:31.020 to make me less reliant on the YouTube algorithm and make the whole thing more sustainable for me.
00:02:36.340 But now let's get into this first video of our energy minister talking about how we can partner
00:02:41.880 with China because they have a similar goal of net zero.
00:02:45.580 Let me be clear. We are here because we share a goal. We share a goal on getting to net zero.
00:02:53.120 We believe we have lots of common interests with respect to how we use clean energy to get there.
00:02:58.920 And we have common interests around how to get there on a conventional basis.
00:03:02.920 The conventional basis is this like drive by shooting attempt at kind of keeping the idea
00:03:08.980 of a pipeline alive. What he left out in that press conference and what was clarified later by the
00:03:15.120 Chinese officials themselves is that they're not interested in doing more trade with us for
00:03:19.440 liquefied natural gas and other oil and gas products. They don't care. They can get oil and gas from other
00:03:25.440 people at the moment. And they would rather just keep selling us cheap solar panels and keeping the green
00:03:31.220 subsidy money coming to them from our country. And so we've gotten absolutely nothing encouraging that
00:03:38.220 would actually lead us to lead Carney to like pursue a pipeline. He's never building a pipeline and he's
00:03:44.400 basically working with the Chinese in order to have more excuses not to do so. And the line about
00:03:49.640 all we share a mutual interest in getting to net zero. One, that's not even an ideal goal. In my opinion,
00:03:56.280 we do not need to get to net zero. How about we make the quality of people's lives better? That's
00:04:01.000 my metric. They're not going to net zero. In fact, every single agreement they sign, like the 2030
00:04:08.140 agreement allows them to keep basically increasing emissions for decades longer before they even have
00:04:14.200 to start reducing them. Again, I don't even think it's exactly the thing we should be focusing on just
00:04:19.260 having the government try and reduce emissions. But they're clearly not doing that. They keep putting
00:04:24.200 more coal power plants online. What are you talking about? We have a mutual interest in net zero.
00:04:31.800 One, again, we shouldn't care about it. And two, that's why we're partnering with them because they
00:04:36.380 care about net zero? Okay, but now we got to get to some other clips. This one was particularly bad,
00:04:43.340 where Carney wants to start a new world order with the Chinese government. This is something
00:04:47.840 that was actually said while he was sitting across the table from Chinese diplomats. Check this out.
00:04:54.080 It was clipped by Juno News, and I thank them for doing all the tedious work of clipping the stuff.
00:04:58.660 You know, clipping is one of the worst parts of actually running a channel, going and finding
00:05:01.760 the clips. And some organizations like Juno News make it easy. But check this out.
00:05:06.060 We're hardened by the leadership of President Xi Jinping and the speed with which
00:05:14.900 our relationship has progressed in recent months. This sets the stage for these important discussions
00:05:24.580 on a wide range of issues where we can be strategic partners, from energy to agriculture,
00:05:34.640 to people-to-people ties, to multilateralism, to issues on security. And I believe the progress that
00:05:43.760 we have made in the partnership sets us up well for the new world order.
00:05:51.940 You can even see in that other clip there, a Saskatchewan premier, Scott Moe, and there's a good reason for
00:06:00.220 him to be there. You know, it's the whole canola issue for Saskatchewan. As soon as he says new world
00:06:04.580 order, like Scott Moe, I'm going to reenact it here for you people. Like Scott Moe, profile shot here,
00:06:11.820 is like sitting there listening. And then he says like new world order. And like, it was just such a like a,
00:06:17.860 like Carney just said the stupidest thing possible, that we're going to start a new world order with
00:06:22.620 China. It's like, no, no, we're not. No, we're not. People keep saying on X, well, China is our
00:06:31.360 second biggest trade partner. So it's good that we're engaging in these talks. Well, that being said,
00:06:36.480 but the exact same people who don't want us trading with the United States, because it's for security
00:06:41.740 reasons or whatever. Okay, so we need to trade less with the United States, which yes, we trade like 80%.
00:06:47.720 78% with. We need to trade less with them for security reasons. But we need to trade more with
00:06:55.080 China, who we actually only trade like 5% with. It's actually kind of pathetic how little our second
00:06:59.640 biggest trade partner we actually trade with for. We need to trade with them for security reasons,
00:07:04.440 even though they're a country that keeps violating our national security, you know, interfering in our
00:07:10.580 elections, all that good stuff. Apparently, that can all be water under the bridge now because we need
00:07:15.720 to make a deal. Like, again, Carney was the guy who said that China was our biggest national security threat
00:07:22.780 when he was on stage. I'm going to get to this tweet from Shavloy Majumdar, the conservative MP from
00:07:29.380 Calgary Heritage in a second. But this is where I want to transition into why this is such an electoral
00:07:33.720 disaster for the liberals. One, these are fantastic advertisements for the conservatives. They're our biggest
00:07:40.260 foreign adversary. We need to partner with them and start a new world order. These things are going
00:07:45.160 to make hilarious clips for the conservatives to play. Also, Carney indicated this is a stupid thing
00:07:50.900 to do. He said that China is our biggest foreign adversary on the debate stage against Pierre Polyev
00:07:57.700 to show that he was serious about an issue that he knew Canadians took seriously. You know, when you do
00:08:03.660 those polls where you ask people to name their top issues, and people can pick their top three,
00:08:09.940 you know that China and Chinese interference in our government in our elections actually polls at like
00:08:16.080 three or four percent. Now, you could say three or four percent when people are picking their top three
00:08:20.360 issues. That's nothing. Guys, that is such a niche issue. The fact that four percent of people actually
00:08:26.640 pick that issue probably demonstrates there's large portions of people who will go single issue on that
00:08:32.200 one, who if Carney is doing this, four or five percent of people who may have been splitting 50-50
00:08:38.080 with the conservatives and between the conservatives and liberals are going to be all conservative next
00:08:42.840 time. Remember, elections are one along the margins. You don't need to beat the liberals 80-20
00:08:49.400 in order to take the government. You just have to beat them like 44-42, and that could be a majority
00:08:54.780 government for the conservatives. This is one of those things that's going to cut away Chinese-Canadians
00:09:00.340 who don't want this to happen. Chinese-Canadians are very anti-CCP. You find very pro-CCP Chinese-Canadians
00:09:06.920 too? Yes, but they're rare, and obviously there's a lot of propaganda efforts, and there's a lot of
00:09:12.060 coercion into making those people act the way that they do, but the vast majority are still brave enough
00:09:17.940 to basically stand up to them. This is going to hurt Mark Carney when it comes to those Chinese-Canadian
00:09:24.080 heavy ridings. And again, big business is going to see this as a slap in the face. Business liberals
00:09:30.380 who voted for Carney because he's going to handle the economy are going to be ticked off that we are
00:09:35.800 putting more effort into basically trading with our... We're really focusing on Indonesia and China,
00:09:43.440 countries where we basically only trade five percent with China, and Indonesia is a decimal point.
00:09:49.340 We are more focused on those trade talks than we are with the United States. In fact, doing this
00:09:56.780 caused Trump to say, yeah, no further negotiations. If they're going to go and basically hold up Mao's
00:10:02.100 little red book and give Xi Jinping a Winnie the Pooh bear hug, we're not talking with them. And that's
00:10:09.740 rational. Of course Trump should say he's not going to talk to us after we do something stupid like this.
00:10:14.320 I'm not saying I don't want Canada to get a trade deal. I'm saying I want us to be smarter so that
00:10:19.780 we can get a trade deal. And I think the vast majority of Canadians are going to see this as a
00:10:23.480 massive own goal from Mark Carney. But here's this tweet I wanted to talk about from Shuv Majumdar.
00:10:29.260 He says here, Canada does not belong in Beijing's new world order. Our people deserve freedom,
00:10:36.540 not subjugation before the Chinese Communist Party. The PM could have been bolstering ties with Tokyo,
00:10:43.960 Seoul, and a wide array of partners across the Indo-Pacific. He chose to spend his time on his
00:10:49.920 knees with everyone who does us harm. Absolutely. And again, China doesn't really care about our oil
00:10:55.760 and gas products that much because they get their oil and gas from countries like Iran and Russia
00:11:00.500 and Venezuela, by the way, which is good that Maduro is now out and a lot of these Venezuelan oil and gas
00:11:06.400 tankers are being seized. We should be trying to trade oil and gas with India, with the Philippines,
00:11:12.700 without Indonesia. That's cool, too. With Japan, with Korea, that's who we should be focusing on
00:11:19.140 here. But for some reason, we're trying to partner with the people who don't even want our oil and gas
00:11:25.140 products. Like, what are we going to send them, lumber? That's fine. But, you know, let's send the
00:11:29.980 more lucrative thing. But Carney doesn't want that. So he's deliberately speaking with the people who
00:11:35.020 are going to give him more excuses to invest more in green energy so we can send our subsidy money to
00:11:39.840 China so they can send us cheap solar panels. He can't make it up. This is just terrible politics.
00:11:46.500 Now, like, I'm happy that he is engaging in terrible politics because it makes it more likely that in a
00:11:51.340 snap election in 2026, Carney's going to go down in flames. But for the country in the short term, this is
00:11:56.940 embarrassing. It's stupid. And let's just end this whole segment off on going over Mark Carney's
00:12:03.680 groveling post to the CCP that he put out today. Again, he doesn't even need to do this. He could
00:12:09.380 be more tight-fisted. He could act a little bit more, you know, stoic about speaking with the
00:12:16.200 Chinese government. But this is what Carney posted on his official X account.
00:12:20.840 Thank you, Chairman Zhao Leji for the constructive meeting today in Beijing. Canada and China have a
00:12:28.440 long-standing relationship that has created opportunities for the people of both of our countries
00:12:32.480 in a more divided, uncertain world. We're focused on renewing that relationship and building towards
00:12:37.280 a stronger future. We can't even get a meeting with Xi Jinping. He doesn't even respect Carney
00:12:42.160 enough to do that. But Carney will give them everything anyways, even if he can't even meet
00:12:46.460 with the actual big cheese here or the big Winnie the Pooh. Why? Guys, well, we need to renew our
00:12:54.040 relationship. No, we don't. We actually need them to give us a groveling apology for interfering in our
00:13:00.140 elections and all the other stuff I listed before. Let's trade with all the other countries around
00:13:04.000 the Indo-Pacific. Let's do that. Let's trade with other Asian countries. Let's trade with anyone but
00:13:09.120 them. Basically, anyone but China, Iran, Russia, and communist countries like Cuba. Let's trade with
00:13:15.980 everyone but dictatorships. There's tons of them. We can easily find them without knocking on the door
00:13:21.580 of the CCP. It's super simple. Maybe, again, maybe I'm just a persnickety one who thinks that maybe we
00:13:27.920 shouldn't be funding our foreign adversaries through trade. But no, Carney knows better than
00:13:34.140 me, guys. Carney knows better. He knows better. I know nothing. He once worked at Goldman Sachs.
00:13:39.500 Of course, he knows what he's doing. Of course, he knows what he's doing. Anyways, with that all being
00:13:43.540 said, thank you guys for watching. Hopefully, we will be back in another day or two with a polling
00:13:47.900 video because I do want to see what a lot of the recent stuff has been doing to these polling numbers,
00:13:52.880 especially post-China trip numbers. Those probably won't come up for like a week and a half now.
00:13:57.880 I guarantee you, you are going to start seeing a lot of the business liberal right of the liberal
00:14:03.700 party start to migrate back over because right now, the conservatives have been falling in the
00:14:08.900 polls too, but they've been like falling slower than the liberals. So they've been tightening up
00:14:13.540 just through that. I think this is now when the conservatives will start gaining a little bit
00:14:18.140 more of that moral credibility back from the liberals. The liberals love to pretend that they
00:14:23.060 are super pro-Canada until it is time to lick the boots clean of the CCP in China. It's pathetic.
00:14:30.520 Anyways, with that all being said, thank you guys for watching. Like, share, subscribe,
00:14:34.260 consider joining the channel membership, and I will see you all next time.
