00:02:42.820I actually don't care about the play button.
00:02:44.160I just like round numbers, and 100,000 feels very round to me.
00:02:48.140I probably would never even put the play button up in the background.
00:02:50.620I'll use it like as a coaster or whatever.
00:02:52.840You can also hit the join button if you want to support the channel

00:02:57.800And of course, I always encourage people to leave a comment
00:03:01.000on what they think about the topic we are discussing today.
00:03:05.380But now, and thanks to Northern Perspectives
00:03:08.000for putting out the full context to this clip,
00:03:10.500Here is the two minute and 15 second fight between Michelle Rempel and the immigration minister, Lina Metlej-Diab.
00:03:21.380I believe she is the MP for Halifax West and the immigration minister.
00:03:26.020Yeah. So did you tell your colleague, Patty, to take a flying leap when she said that Tim Hortons should get more temporary foreign workers after the jobs numbers came out last week?
00:03:38.340like why aren't those jobs going to Canadian workers and why are you guys kowtowing to Tim Hortons
00:03:43.720so lovely performance as usual madam thank you for the question immediately entering with like
00:03:53.460the wrong energy if I am Lena Diab's like advisor here I'm like already trying to throw in the towel
00:04:01.380from like the back benches I'm like oh my goodness you realize this is going to be clipped as soon
00:04:06.100as you go into that tone. You're like the minister just here to diffuse concerns. I sometimes look at
00:04:12.000liberals and I'm like, lie better. Like, I know you're lying, but can you at least put it in the
00:04:17.260effort to lie well so that we don't feel like we're supposed to be like fooled by this? Like
00:04:22.020we don't, I don't want to feel stupid. Like you're using your worst lying skills on me.
00:04:26.400Come in with your best, Lena. We have a letter from many conservative members who have written
00:04:32.140to me and to Minister Haidu and to another minister of requesting those changes, in fact,
00:04:40.440pleading that they require those changes in their province.
00:04:43.240That's right. They were pleading to end the temporary foreign worker program and replace
00:04:48.420it with a standalone program for agriculture.
00:08:44.040I understand why your colleagues, Lena, went to the CBC and said that you don't take questions
00:08:49.120and that they don't like you and think you're doing a bad job.
00:08:51.500because you need people to interject over top of you to answer basic questions you should do better
00:08:57.100you should tell patty not to kowtow to tim hortons you should tell sean to not allow judges to give
00:09:02.860leniency to non-citizen criminals that's your job and you're not doing it you are a bad minister
00:09:08.120we are doing our job and you're a bad performer perhaps you should go back to performance thank
00:09:14.560you miss remple gardner thank you minister so that was that was quite the the session in that
00:09:19.960committee. Now, if the minister could just say, yeah, Patty Hayes, you had said something about
00:09:25.400allowing Tim Hortons to bring more people. And I disagree. I'm the minister. I'm not going to do
00:09:29.640that. She can't say that because they're probably going to do it because the liberals are effectively
00:09:34.420a corporate party. And I'm not like some anti-corporate guy where if a business has
00:09:39.020enough revenue that I start to hate them, like, oh my goodness, they bring in billions a year. I now
00:09:42.840hate them as if I'm some socialist. I don't care. I don't hate Tim Hortons. At the same time,
00:09:48.200The thing is with the liberals is that they're only like a pro-business party in the sense that they only basically serve businesses big enough to put pressure on them.
00:09:59.380If you're a small business, they don't care about you.
00:10:02.260Medium-sized business, maybe they give a crap if like they're like the MP in your specific riding and you're a big enough business in there.
00:10:09.620But really, they just care about the very large corporations, which means that they pass the dumbest regulations and they never reform taxes.
00:10:18.200because the corporations or the businesses who can survive over regulation and over taxation
00:10:24.760are the large ones we have a really big corporate consolidation problem in canada
00:10:29.960and it's not because mergers themselves or a large company buying up a smaller company
00:10:35.240is inherently bad the problem is is that taxes and regulations are so high in canada that you can only
00:10:42.440survive if you are running at like the peak at peak efficiency a small town grocer can't really
00:10:49.800survive so the only places that exist are big box grocery stores places that are so efficient and so
00:10:56.920well known that they have the customer base and the way of maintaining margins in order to survive
00:11:02.840and even those businesses can't exactly survive especially the ones who rely on small franchisees
00:11:08.680like tim hortons in a certain sense i sympathize a little bit for with tim hortons because it
00:11:13.960probably is that the economy sucks so bad that they want tfw's to offset their costs because
00:11:20.040you can just afford to pay people pretty much nothing in order to work at your business if
00:11:25.000they're a tfw because they don't expect very much now tim hortons has been putting out some like
00:11:29.560really dumb propaganda about how oh guys no we don't actually hire that many tfws although they're
00:11:35.960literally advocating for this they're literally like lobbying for more tfws we only have like
00:11:42.360we only a hundred thousand employees and only 1500 of them are tfws it's like well now only
00:11:49.6401500 of them are tfws you're lobbying for more so one and a half percent of your workers are tfws
00:11:57.720but that doesn't even count international students who are only capped in how many
00:12:02.200hours they can work per week. I believe it's 24 hours a week. Those people tend to be a large
00:12:08.160portion of the Tim Hortons workforce as well. And then new permanent residents. Now, there's no
00:12:13.700problem with permanent residents working at fast food chains. It's not like I'm mad, like, no,
00:12:18.540these are good Canadian jobs that must be only given out to citizens. But the problem with so
00:12:23.800many of these companies is that they rely on newcomers who don't really have expectations,
00:12:28.500and they don't have the ability to really bargain for higher amounts of money.
