Summary

After the carbon tax hike, the Liberals and the NDP are looking for an excuse to attack the Tories, and they have a plan to do just that. Pure Poly of the House of Commons skipped the vote to attend a $17.25-per-plate fundraiser.

00:00:00.000 I love an argument that proves too much, and in the aftermath of the Conservatives' very savvy move on calling for a no-confidence vote in relation to the 23-cent increase in the carbon tax,
00:00:11.160 the Liberals and the NDP have been looking for an angle of attack on the Conservatives to try and lessen the blow that was dealt to them.
00:00:18.400 And it was a major blow.
00:00:20.480 The NDP, the Liberals, as well as the Bloc Québécois basically said that they were willing to protect the Liberals over not giving Canadians tax relief.
00:00:28.300 They looked horrible, and now their only argument is that the Conservatives have donors, and ergo the Conservatives are bad.
00:00:35.960 And so look at tweets like this.
00:00:38.500 This guy, Roddy, which is like some random guy, but he has a decently popular leftist Twitter account.
00:00:44.380 He says,
00:00:45.040 Think about that for just a second.
00:00:56.120 Well, man, just letting you know, people actually do care about gasoline arbitrarily going up three cents a liter.
00:01:02.760 It wasn't supposed to go up three cents a liter based on normal market forces, and that actually does hurt people a lot.
00:01:09.100 And it doesn't just apply to gasoline.
00:01:11.100 It applies to home heating.
00:01:12.520 It applies to gasoline.
00:01:13.260 It applies to food.
00:01:14.140 It applies to every product that needs to be moved on a truck or that farmers need to dry like grain.
00:01:20.360 But, you know, whatever.
00:01:22.060 $1,700 a plate, though.
00:01:23.700 Wow.
00:01:24.440 That's like not that much money per person.
00:01:27.260 That's the funny thing with Canada, especially Canadian federal politics, having such low thresholds or having such low caps on what you can donate.
00:01:35.880 $1,700 is chump change in U.S. politics.
00:01:39.520 It's frankly chump change in every country but Canada.
00:01:42.440 We do not have a lot of money in politics, so making it out that pure poly is out with a bunch of rich people while he should have been voting for his own confidence motion.
00:01:51.000 No, he shouldn't be.
00:01:52.460 Everyone knew the no confidence vote was not going to be passed.
00:01:55.180 It was symbolic, and there's nothing wrong with it being symbolic.
00:01:58.500 It was symbolically demonstrating that no one in the NDP or the bloc were willing to vote in favor of Canadians getting tax relief.
00:02:05.440 They voted against the motion to get rid of the 23% increase, and they voted against the confidence motion.
00:02:10.200 They look bad, and now they're struggling.
00:02:13.120 And here's another tweet.
00:02:14.080 It's from Charlie Angus, the execrable NDP MP, and he said,
00:02:18.840 Yesterday, Matthew Green, NDP, and I wrote to the lobbying commissioner regarding the disturbing lobbying allegations tied to pure poly of chief of staff.
00:02:28.040 Sent to the same day, pure poly of skip town and his own no confidence vote to press the flesh at a $17.25 ticket fundraiser.
00:02:37.800 Okay, man, what's your point?
00:02:40.200 Yes, there's some, like, the ethics commissioner who wants to get involved in something.
00:02:44.560 I don't really know about that issue.
00:02:46.140 It seems overblown and stupid.
00:02:47.840 But, like, they keep going back to the $1,700 a plate fundraiser.
00:02:51.920 Okay, and what?
00:02:53.960 People actually want to donate to the conservatives, not your stupid parties?
00:02:57.920 Going to another one.
00:02:59.100 Here is Dean Blundell, the horrible supposedly, supposed journalist covering this.
00:03:04.940 He says, Update post.
00:03:06.560 Watch pure poly of absent from vote on his motion of non-confidence as he hobnobs with Toronto Bay Street elites at 1725 person fundraisers.
00:03:16.640 They know a lot of middle class people donate the maximum amount to political parties.
00:03:21.020 1725 is a lot of money.
00:03:23.220 But if you're into politics, it's not that much.
00:03:25.900 If it's kind of your hobby and the thing that you care about a lot.
00:03:28.720 Another MP, Charlie Angus, again, saying, Pure Poly had claimed he was going to force a $630 million election, and then he skipped town for the vote.
00:03:37.620 He's too busy hanging out with lobbyists at a fundraiser.
00:03:40.940 Pure thinks Canadians are dummies.
00:03:43.040 They know in order to get the job, you have to show up for the work.
00:03:45.820 Well, Charlie, half the time you show up for work with your pants on your head, just like that stupid private members bill that you were pushing that would try and make it illegal to push for pro-oil and gas positions in the media.
00:03:58.520 You're a fool.
00:03:59.660 Now let's move on to another MP.
00:04:01.940 We have Stephen McKinnon, I believe the Liberals' house leader.
00:04:05.640 And he said Pure Poly have pumped his chest today and called for an early election.
00:04:10.620 Once again, he didn't even bother to show up in the House for the vote.
00:04:13.680 He forced his MPs to turn up, and he went to a Conservative fundraiser instead.
00:04:18.020 This man is full of bluster.
00:04:19.720 He's not in it for you.
00:04:21.300 Do you think that the Liberals and Justin Trudeau wouldn't have been out of town somewhere at a fundraiser if they could raise money?
00:04:28.440 They're effectively just mad at Pure Poly of, because the Conservative Party right now is actually popular, and people actually want to give them money.
00:04:37.000 This is why I consider this a complete own goal.
00:04:39.460 They're effectively whining at the Conservative Party because, shock gasp, people actually are willing to give money to the Conservatives, not the Liberals and the NDP.
00:04:48.720 The Liberals have been getting their clocks cleaned in the fundraising numbers in the past couple of years.
00:04:53.560 Literally, in the past two years, the Liberals have been raising less than half of the money that the Conservatives have.
00:05:00.580 Obviously, the NDP are even worse off, and they're going to try and shame the Conservatives because people are willing to give them cash because they actually want them to win.
00:05:10.180 They actually have confidence that they can win the next election, and they want to see them run this country.
00:05:15.020 The reason nobody's giving you guys money is nobody wants to see you guys running this country.
00:05:19.540 And the fact that you guys are now trying to use this as an angle of attack for raising tax on people, you can't go after Poly of, for holding a fundraising event when you just jacked the taxes on Canadians up, and it's coming into effect on April 1st.
00:05:34.840 And at every opportunity given to you, you chose not to get rid of the tax hike.
00:05:40.580 I think this is on you guys, but, you know, just keep flailing around pretending that you're going to get out of this one if you call Pure Poly of a mean man enough.
00:05:48.320 Anyways, that should be it for me today, guys.
00:05:51.500 Just want to shamelessly plug for a second that I, Wyatt Claypool, am running for the Calgary Signal Hill Conservative Party nomination.
00:05:58.620 If you live on the west side of Calgary, check if you live in this riding.
00:06:01.720 What's on screen now is what the new riding boundaries will look like in April, so make sure you buy a membership.
00:06:07.380 Check out my website in the description below, WyattClaypool.com, and vote for me in the nomination.
00:06:12.500 It's a ranked ballot.
00:06:13.360 The nomination's not open yet, but it will be called sometime in this year.
00:06:17.240 And then also we have the TNT Legal Fundraiser, also linked in the description.
00:06:22.500 If you want to help support us in the legal battle that we're up against with a foolish billionaire developer, he's trying to sue us for defamation, has no evidence, and he's been dragging this out intentionally for two years, trying to keep us on the hook as long as possible.
00:06:37.760 It's cost me personally more than $26,000 so far, so if you want to donate, the Give, Send, Go link is in the description below.
00:06:45.580 Any amount of money helps reduce the burden of cost on us, so we really appreciate everyone who's donated so far, and we appreciate anyone who will donate in the future.
