00:00:00.320 Canada. I know we have a lot going on in the world right now, but we have to fix something domestically so we can talk about the other things quite literally.
00:00:08.780 We are in the precipice of losing free internet.
00:00:12.800 You might have strong opinions about Israel, Hamas, or no opinions, wherever you are.
00:00:17.520 Hopefully a unifying opinion here is we should all have the right to read about it on the internet from the sources that we want to read it from.
00:00:27.920 Now, that should unify us, and we are in the precipice of losing that right.
00:00:31.900 Already there is no news on Facebook and Instagram, and Google is about to be the same.
00:00:37.580 That screws over independent media under the guise of getting us paid.
00:00:41.420 Oh, we're going to make sure that you get paid. You're going to get paid per clicks.
00:00:44.500 We're going to create a system in which it's financially untenable for Facebook and Google to exist in Canada,
00:00:50.040 and then they're going to shut you down because we care about you so much.
00:00:52.860 So we got screwed over there.
00:00:54.040 All right, and now the new thing is they want to register people under the CRTC for the podcasting stuff.
00:00:59.360 This is the C-11, Online Streaming Act stuff.
00:01:03.000 Now, here's the insidious lie that we're going to have to fight.
00:01:06.160 The only people who need to register their podcasts are people who make more than $10 million in revenue, not profit.
00:01:13.520 So you could even make a dollar and hypothetically have to register.
00:01:16.700 And this will be the smear tactic given to undermine this current push, right?
00:01:23.280 It's only the rich and the powerful, only the people who make more than $10 million on their podcasts.
00:01:29.660 But it's the podcast hosting sites.
00:01:31.860 It's YouTube, Spotify, SoundCloud, all the rest of them.
00:01:35.180 They'll have to register, and they'll be put under the perfum of the CRTC.
00:01:38.900 That's the regulatory body in Canada.
00:01:40.820 Fun fact about them.
00:01:41.600 Canada, they control everything on the television and radio waves, and their goal is to promote Canadian content.
00:01:48.240 We always want to promote Canadian content in Canada.
00:01:50.560 Give Canadians a boost.
00:01:52.540 But if you ever talk to anyone, I have a friend who used to be in a bunch of bands who had to deal with the CRTC.
00:01:58.040 You have to, like, write letters and then write your song lyrics, and it goes to some bureaucrat who knows nothing.
00:02:02.340 They look at it.
00:02:02.920 They get to change whatever they want, give it back to you.
00:02:04.420 You have to do that.
00:02:06.140 Now, you're like, okay, why do you have to register that?
00:02:08.180 Because you don't count as Canadian content unless you're registered under the CRTC.
00:02:13.600 So when we say promote Canadian content, that doesn't actually mean content made by Canadians.
00:02:18.600 It means content made by Canadians that has been subjected to the regulatory body that is the CRTC.
00:02:25.560 So it's not Canadian content.
00:02:27.780 It's content regulated by Canada counts as Canadian content.
00:02:31.980 That's a big difference.
00:02:33.120 So if you think that the regulatory body, who has no idea what they're doing, right?
00:02:38.220 Their thing is, like, we just want to get into the internet with some power and wing it. 0.96
00:02:42.220 If you think that's a good idea, you're crazy.
00:02:45.780 And to me, it looks like the goal is what I call the laundering of censorship.
00:02:50.160 So the liberal government will put the CRTC in charge of Facebook, Spotify, SoundCloud, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:02:57.480 And then they're regulated by the government.
00:03:00.420 They will then push that regulation and censorship onto the content creators, and then that affects the consumers.
00:03:05.880 But we, the content creators, are going to say, hey, I'm being censored.
00:03:09.480 I'm being regulated.
00:03:10.480 What's going on?
00:03:11.580 Stop this.
00:03:12.720 And then mercenaries, journalists from legacy media, are going to come in and say,
00:03:17.220 you're not being regulated.
00:03:20.940 Your free expression can't be limited by the government.
00:03:24.780 YouTube is a private company.
00:03:26.360 It can do what it wants.
00:03:28.700 That's going to be the lie, right?
00:03:30.100 They launder the censorship to the private companies, down to us, so we don't have a mechanism to even complain about it.
00:03:36.120 Beautiful.
00:03:36.840 Horrifying, but beautiful.
00:03:38.880 This is what we need to push back against if you want to save free internet, free speech, and freedom of information.
00:03:46.900 We must stop these bills.
00:03:49.980 And there is good news.
00:03:51.540 American telecom companies and American companies are starting to sue the Canadian government.
00:03:54.520 We have time.
00:03:56.360 We have until November 29th to stop the registration.
00:04:00.040 But before that, I want to call everyone down.
00:04:02.240 If you're in the GTA, Toronto, the GTA area, Saturday, this Saturday, October 14th, 4 p.m., outside Christopher Freeland's office at Bloor and Spadina.
00:04:10.200 Get off at Spadina Station and you'll find us.
00:04:12.820 We are going to protest this.
00:04:16.340 There's going to be speakers.
00:04:17.580 There's going to be points.
00:04:18.620 We're going to show that we're not going to let this happen.
00:04:23.720 That free speech can be a unifying issue in a time of such division.
00:04:28.460 This is open to everyone.
00:04:30.500 Left, right, center, apolitical, political.
00:04:34.540 You believe in this.
00:04:35.400 You believe in that.
00:04:36.640 If you believe that you have the right to say what you want to say, see what you want to see, read what you want to read, join us.
00:04:43.620 Make a stand.
00:04:45.060 Push back against the liberals.
00:04:46.100 Use the hashtag Trudeau Censorship.
00:04:48.520 We'll just say that to stop the Trudeau Censorship from happening because if we do not stop this now and the CRTC gets its claws into the internet, we will never be able to take them out.
00:05:02.260 And Canada will forever be a place where it is known that you will not be able to make it as a content creator.
00:05:07.960 Already so many artists just try and get a little bit of a foothold in Canada so they can move to the UK or the US and make it there.
00:05:16.100 Because it's a wasteland for Canadian artists and it's about to get a lot worse.
00:05:21.880 So if you care about this stuff, please share the video, like the video, whatever it is.
00:05:26.500 You know how to push buttons.
00:05:28.120 Make a stand.
00:05:29.600 Get out there if you can this Saturday, October 14th, Christopher Freeland's office, 4 to 5 p.m. 0.98
00:05:35.600 Let's make a point and save the friggin' internet from these censorious authoritarian losers. 0.98
