00:00:00.000 All right, listen guys, I get it. Many of you are unable to financially support this ministry
00:00:04.620 because you're spending your cash and your lives on raising young children in the fear and
00:00:09.500 admonition of the Lord. Praise God for you and that endeavor. However, algorithms are a thing.
00:00:16.220 Shadow banning, sadly, is a thing. And one major way that you can help to expand the reach and
00:00:22.520 effectiveness of this ministry that doesn't cost you a dime is by spending just a few moments
00:00:28.060 leaving us a five-star review.
00:00:31.160 Also, perhaps even more effective than that,
00:00:33.960 you can share our podcast with a friend.
00:00:36.400 We hope you'll take the time to do so.
00:00:38.300 Thank you so much.
00:00:39.580 God bless.
00:00:41.720 Jesus said, man cannot live on bread alone,
00:00:44.500 but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
00:00:47.540 You're listening to Daily Truth.
00:00:52.140 And so even here in 1 Timothy,
00:00:54.720 one of the things that we see
00:00:56.120 is we see the ceasing of the gifts.
00:01:01.180 We see the ceasing of the gifts of the Spirit.
00:01:04.200 Because this same Paul, we know from the book of Acts,
00:01:07.340 his handkerchiefs were taken from him
00:01:09.140 and passed around to people being whole.
00:01:13.120 Right?
00:01:13.360 Take a little wine for your stomach's sake.
00:01:14.800 Why?
00:01:16.240 Paul, why don't you just wrap up in that parchment, right,
00:01:18.360 letter with a handkerchief.
00:01:21.200 No wine needed.
00:01:22.620 Right?
00:01:22.820 Just send him a letter, 1.00
00:01:24.800 send him a prayer cloth, 1.00
00:01:26.120 Right? For the low price, only for you, $9.99, you can get this little bottle of water from the Jordan River.
00:01:31.200 And, you know, like, why not just do that?
00:01:33.900 Right? I mean, he's an apostle.
00:01:35.740 I mean, Peter, and Peter being one of Paul's contemporaries, his colleagues, his peer.
00:01:41.160 Not a peer, not a leader, a peer.
00:01:43.560 Peter, people would literally, they would map out which direction he was going to be going,
00:01:47.860 which paths in the villages he's going to be taking,
00:01:50.840 and what time he would be walking down these certain roads and paths and alleyways, 1.00
00:01:55.500 so that the people who were infirmed and sick
00:01:57.680 could get out into the street
00:01:59.900 hoping that Peter's shadow might pass by them
00:02:03.280 because they would be healed.
00:02:05.160 It wasn't superstitious.
00:02:06.720 It was real.
00:02:08.080 Peter's shadow healing the sick.
00:02:10.520 Paul's handkerchief healing the sick.
00:02:13.500 And here in 1 Timothy, Paul says,
00:02:15.800 drink some wine.
00:02:17.640 Why?
00:02:18.880 Because the message had already been firmly established.
00:02:22.040 And the sign gifts served strictly as that.
00:02:25.500 A sign to validate the message.
00:02:29.180 Now, that doesn't mean that God doesn't still heal to this day.
00:02:32.180 But there's a difference between praying for healing versus healers.
00:02:37.200 Right?
00:02:37.360 So the apostles, what we see is we don't just see prayers of petition.
00:02:42.400 That word petition is a request.
00:02:44.080 It's pleading.
00:02:44.700 It's asking the Lord.
00:02:45.960 Now, we still plead and ask the Lord for healing.
00:02:48.280 I actually just prayed for healing right before the service began for one of our members.
00:02:53.360 But as I prayed, what I didn't do is a prayer petition.
00:02:56.960 I was pleading and asking the Lord,
00:02:58.740 knowing that he may heal, he may not.
00:03:01.060 That's different than a prayer.
00:03:02.340 Prayer petition is different than a prayer of declaration.
00:03:05.280 Look at the prayers of Jesus.
00:03:06.740 Look at the prayers of the apostles.
00:03:10.460 They don't just plead with the Lord.
00:03:12.340 They say, rise up and walk.
00:03:14.680 It's not a petition.
00:03:15.500 It's a declaration.
00:03:17.400 Right, but why?
00:03:18.320 Because the apostles were given
00:03:20.580 this kind of supernatural power as a sign,
00:03:24.820 that is, as a badge, as a validation of their authority,
00:03:29.780 their commissioning as apostles for the message.
00:03:32.500 And even in Paul's lifetime, even while Paul is still alive,
00:03:37.920 the gifts are beginning to dwindle a bit.
00:03:41.200 Not because God doesn't care for the sick anymore.
00:03:43.600 Not because God doesn't ever do miracles anymore.
00:03:46.080 We live in God's miraculous world.
00:03:48.700 but because the foundation had been laid.
00:03:53.140 As Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians chapter three,
00:03:55.220 I, as an expert builder, I laid a foundation, right?
00:03:58.880 And what is this foundation?
00:04:00.260 It's the apostles and the prophets
00:04:02.080 with a cornerstone being Christ.
00:04:05.700 The foundation doesn't need to be relayed.
00:04:07.480 Our job at Ephesians four, right?
00:04:09.620 Some of you have heard the five-fold ministry, okay?
00:04:11.740 Well, really, I'm gonna argue it's fourfold, right?
00:04:14.320 It's apostles, prophets, evangelists, and shepherd teachers.
00:04:19.680 In the Greek, they really go together.
00:04:21.060 Shepherd teachers, it's like shepherd backslash teacher, right?
00:04:24.960 Like two sides of one coin.
00:04:26.400 So it's a four-fold ministry, shepherd teachers being one role.
00:04:29.500 And what is shepherding and teaching?
00:04:31.780 If anything, it's a pastor.
00:04:33.080 So we have apostles, prophets, evangelists, and pastors.
00:04:37.260 Apostles and prophets, according to Ephesians 2.20,
00:04:40.080 they're the foundation on which the church is laid.
00:04:42.420 And according to 1 Corinthians chapter 3, Paul, as an expert builder, as an apostle himself, laid that foundation.
00:04:48.720 It is the gospel of Jesus Christ.
00:04:50.480 It's the law of God and the gospel of God.
00:04:52.600 It is the scripture.
00:04:53.860 So the foundation has been laid by apostles and prophets.
00:04:56.840 We still have apostles and prophets today because we still have their testimony in this book.
00:05:04.400 The apostles and prophets are still speaking.
00:05:07.360 They're speaking even now as I exegete and exposit scripture.
00:05:11.520 But they are foundational.
00:05:13.280 Now we have evangelists and pastors, the next two workers in Ephesians 4,
00:05:17.520 coming and building upon what they've already laid.
00:05:19.940 Not relaying the foundation.
00:05:21.680 There's only one foundation, and the apostles and prophets have already laid it.
00:05:25.800 But we now, as evangelists and pastors, are training and equipping the very saints
00:05:30.280 for the work of ministry.
00:05:31.500 We're building, setting up framework, right?
00:05:34.080 We're furnishing, we're doing the plumbing, the electrical, all that kind of stuff,
00:05:37.340 because the foundation is done.
00:05:38.640 And we do that until Christ one day returns.
00:05:42.860 That's the deal.
00:05:44.360 And even in Paul's own lifetime,
00:05:46.280 we see the sign gifts beginning to dwindle.
00:05:49.680 Instead of a handkerchief,
00:05:51.180 we get instructions to take a little wine
00:05:53.400 for your stomach's sake.
00:05:54.280 Why?
00:05:55.360 Because the sign gifts have served their purpose.
00:05:58.540 They have validated the apostles' ministry
00:06:00.960 and the message, that foundation has been laid.
00:06:04.580 Thanks so much for listening.
00:06:05.560 But real quick, before you go,
00:06:07.520 do us a small favor, take a moment, and leave us a five-star review if you enjoyed the show.

00:06:18.300 to as many people as possible. Thanks so much.
