00:00:23.480 five-star review on your favorite podcast platform. Thanks.
00:00:27.500 any nation that hears his voice and that acknowledges him and submits to him explicitly
00:00:34.000 as a nation in its laws and its policies and the way that it that it organizes itself as a body
00:00:41.180 politic that nation will be blessed and any nation that relents in doing that which is right
00:00:46.420 god will send disaster now we're ready for two sins in particular that god sends disaster
00:00:53.600 through a particular means, namely the land itself.
00:00:58.300 Leviticus 18, 21 through 26, it says,
00:01:01.100 you shall not give any of your children
00:01:02.900 to offer them to Molech.
00:01:05.600 And so profane the name of your God, I am the Lord.
00:01:09.300 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman.
00:01:12.880 It is an abomination.
00:01:14.760 Do not make yourselves unclean by any of these things
00:01:17.960 for by all these things, the nations,
00:01:21.220 for by all these, the nations I am driving out before you have become unclean. Let's stop there
00:01:28.140 for just a moment. The nations I'm driving out before you. This is talking about, all the way
00:01:33.400 back to our original text in Joshua, this is talking about the Canaanite tribes. Why, remember,
00:01:39.500 God's doing two things. Why is he driving them out? Why are they all being extinguished? Why do we
00:01:44.640 have in the Bible an example of genocide because God's doing two things, not just one. One, God is
00:01:52.160 fulfilling his good promises to Israel that they would inherit the land. Two, it's not just that.
00:01:59.480 God is also committed to fulfilling his just judgments that have been on layaway because he's
00:02:05.660 mean. No, because he's gracious and kind, just judgments for the Canaanite tribes that have been
00:02:11.120 on layaway for 400 years. That's how long God's been waiting. We see that in Genesis chapter 15,
00:02:19.020 verse 13 through 16. Verse 16 specifically says, and they shall come back, talking about Abraham's
00:02:25.440 descendants, Israel. They shall come back to this place where Abraham currently was,
00:02:30.180 here in the fourth generation, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete. But that's
00:02:35.240 after, not just fourth generation, that's after 400 years of the Israelites. If you back up just
00:02:40.160 a few verses, 400 years of the Israelites being held in captivity in Egypt. So God is saying to
00:02:46.540 Abraham, look, you're in this land. You're sojourning in this land, not a land that you're
00:02:51.480 waiting to be beamed up out of with a rapture. No, you're sojourning in a land that you are
00:02:56.660 actually waiting to conquer. It's your land, but you're not going to conquer it anytime soon.
00:03:00.980 You're going to die at a ripe old age. But what's going to happen is that your descendants
00:03:05.500 will ultimately be enslaved in Egypt for 400 years.
00:03:08.980 And it won't be until later after the fourth generation
00:03:11.540 that they will come in
00:03:12.380 and they'll drive out the wicked inhabitants of the land.
00:03:14.880 And why will it be so long?
00:03:16.600 For the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.
00:03:20.600 Why? Because they're not that bad?
00:03:22.080 No, they're terrible.
00:03:23.660 It's not to make light of the wickedness of the Amorites.
00:03:26.180 It's to make heavy,
00:03:27.920 to make much of the grace and mercy and patience of God.
00:03:32.740 So God waited for centuries
00:03:34.860 to finally bring about his just judgment on the Canaanite tribes.
00:03:40.060 Two things at once.
00:03:41.680 One, doing good to Israel, which God promised to Abraham.
00:03:45.660 Two, doing justice and judgment to the Canaanites,
00:03:49.580 which God also promised to Abraham.
00:03:52.200 God's doing both.
00:03:53.520 And yes, once more, there is no equivalent to the nation state of Israel under the old covenant.
00:03:59.720 But God, even then at that time, and still certainly to this day,
00:04:04.860 God does bring nations up and bring nations low depending on whether or not they hear his voice
00:04:12.600 and obey it. And what does his voice say? Not just things concerning the second table of the law,
00:04:18.360 how we should love our neighbor, but things about himself, that he exists, that he's sovereign,
00:04:24.800 that he's holy, and that we should worship him and that we should not be idolaters. And what
00:04:31.140 are some specific things that God will spew people out of the land for? One is idolatry, but two
00:04:38.420 others is homosexuality and abortion. You shall not offer your children to Molech, that's verse 21 of
00:04:45.860 Leviticus 18, and you shall not lie with a male as with a woman, that's verse 22 of Leviticus 18.
00:04:53.780 for these things, by these, the nations I am driving out before you have become unclean.
00:05:00.460 Lastly, verse 25, and the land became unclean so that I punished its iniquity and the land
00:05:07.440 vomited out its inhabitants. But you shall keep my statutes and my rules and do none of these
00:05:13.780 abominations, either the native or the stranger who sojourns among you. That'll preach. That
00:05:21.880 applies even to this day. Hey, well, I'm not a Christian. We're a sojourner. We're coming from
00:05:26.960 another nation, right? We're seeking dual citizenship, or maybe we have a green card or
00:05:31.680 something like that. I, you know, your God is not my God. Then leave. Ruth was a Moabite. She got to
00:05:39.480 join Israel under a precondition. Your God shall be my God and your people shall be my people.
00:05:45.740 The sojourner, you cannot mandate.
00:05:48.380 Hear me.
00:05:49.220 Man cannot command through civil politics.
00:05:53.320 He cannot legislate matters of the heart.
00:05:55.600 He cannot command someone to worship the triune God and it be so.
00:06:01.200 Only Jesus is Lord of the heart.
00:06:03.160 Only Jesus can change the heart.
00:06:05.200 But you can, as a nation, say, our God is Yahweh.
00:06:09.620 And from the heart, you may not worship him.
00:06:12.100 That's up to him and whether or not he chooses to sovereignly save you.
00:06:15.040 but the policies and the laws in this nation
00:06:18.420 will abide by the scripture.
00:06:21.560 That which is according to the triune God.
00:06:23.840 It is not oppressive for our nation,
00:06:27.020 which we have had on the books in the past
00:06:28.960 to have Sabbath laws to say,
00:06:31.600 hey, you're not a Christian, fine.
00:06:34.140 But on the Lord's day,
00:06:36.180 on the Lord's day,
00:06:37.140 we can't say that you have to go to church,
00:06:39.160 but we can say that you're not going to have
00:06:41.760 the marketplace open because it's a day of rest.
00:06:44.380 and our God is the triune God.
00:06:47.760 This is how the West has behaved in the past,
00:06:50.400 whether it's England, whether it's America.
00:06:52.460 We've seen this multiple times again and again and again.
00:06:54.960 And during these seasons,
00:06:56.160 there has been immense blessing and prosperity.
00:06:59.280 It was not oppressive.
00:07:00.720 It was not a wrongful binding of the conscience.
00:07:03.760 Man can and should, the civil magistrate
00:07:06.620 should demand a day of rest.
00:07:08.960 Only Jesus can change the heart
00:07:11.180 and make it a day of worship.
00:07:12.900 So only Jesus can make it a day of worship,
00:07:14.940 but man can and should demand a day of rest.
00:07:19.380 But you shall keep my statues and my rules
00:07:22.060 and do none of these abominations,
00:07:23.920 either the native or the stranger who sojourns among you.
00:07:27.780 If you're gonna be in the land,
00:07:29.920 then you need to do that which accords with God's word.
00:07:33.480 And if you don't, notice,
00:07:35.000 it's not just that another nation will be used by God
00:07:37.600 and its military force to take you out.
00:07:39.700 specifically verse 25 what's mentioned is that the land will be defiled that when a people
00:07:46.140 are rebelling against the triune god the very land itself in a literal sense spiritual but
00:07:53.040 also a physical sense the land becomes unclean so that i punished its iniquity the land vomited out
00:08:01.840 its own inhabitants. The land, in a nutshell, the land is on God's side. If you're wondering,
00:08:10.460 is the land for me or for God? Right? If we rebel against God, whose side will the trees be on?
00:08:15.840 Where will the mountains allegiance lie? God's. And I know it sounds overly spiritual,
00:08:22.020 but it is a true biblical principle. When people turn against God, the very land in which they live
00:08:27.040 begins to turn against them. There are droughts, there are famines, there is pestilence, there is
00:08:31.380 plague, there is disease, all these different things. God will not be mocked. A man reaps what
00:08:36.460 he sows, and the land, the creation, the very instrument through whom he speaks, the first
00:08:41.360 point that I labored, will also be one of his instruments that he executes his judgment.
00:08:46.700 The land, the created cosmos, God speaks through creation, and God will use creation to turn
00:08:52.500 on his enemies if they turn against him.
