00:00:52.320 It's important that we understand that when God speaks,

00:00:55.480 Please, please don't misunderstand this.

00:01:00.300 When God speaks, he only speaks one way.

00:01:05.680 When God speaks, he speaks fully authoritatively and fully infallibly.

00:01:15.300 Meaning, God, when he speaks, it is always infallible without error.

00:01:22.740 and it is always authoritative god never suggests so we cannot look to scripture different portions

00:01:33.620 of scripture and say that that god is screaming here and whispering there you've heard me say this

00:01:41.280 let me explain what i mean by that when god speaks he speaks infallibly when god speaks he

00:01:47.920 speaks authoritatively. Meaning there is never any error, any fault on the part of God when he

00:01:55.520 speaks. And there's never the option of taking or leaving it. It's authoritative. So when we say

00:02:06.740 that there are portions of the scripture that scream and others that whisper, we're using that

00:02:12.480 language simply to describe the historic doctrine of the perspicuity of scripture saying not that

00:02:18.520 God sometimes screams and God sometimes whispers but because of the finitude and fallenness of man

00:02:26.440 we sometimes struggle to interpret some passages of scripture whereas other passages may be more

00:02:35.720 easily discerned does that make sense that's what we're saying we're not saying that that god

00:02:42.540 sometimes speaks authoritatively and sometimes doesn't and that god most of the time speaks

00:02:47.480 infallibly and then sometimes there's a little bit of error that would be blasphemy no god speaks

00:02:55.400 authoritatively and he speaks infallibly but we as we listen to god's word we who are fallen we

00:03:03.160 who are finite will struggle to discern exactly what is being said there are some things that

00:03:11.660 are abundantly clear in scripture by god's grace fortunately for us one of those things is the way

00:03:20.960 to salvation but there are other things that are less clear and so that might also be an example

00:03:27.480 of where we perhaps would counsel.

00:03:29.880 Not saying that God is counseling in his word.

00:03:34.240 God is commanding something in his word.

00:03:37.180 But because we are unsure of exactly what that command is

00:03:41.560 and perhaps the church, the larger church

00:03:44.580 throughout church history has disagreed,

00:03:48.580 been at odds with one another

00:03:50.220 over this particular command,

00:03:52.160 we're going to present it more charitably.

00:03:58.260 But that doesn't mean that God is whispering.

00:04:00.900 It means God said something that we don't quite get

00:04:03.640 because of our sin and because of our finitude.

00:04:07.060 And so we are whispering.
