00:00:00.000 Hey guys, real quick, before we get started, I have a small request.
00:00:03.340 If you've been blessed by our content and you like this show,
00:00:06.420 would you take just a brief moment and leave us a five-star review?
00:00:09.760 This is quite possibly the most effective thing that you can do
00:00:12.860 to ensure that this content gets out to as many people as possible. Thanks.
00:00:19.600 Jesus said, man cannot live on bread alone,
00:00:22.340 but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
00:00:25.340 You're listening to Daily Truth.
00:00:27.140 this again is the apostle paul is a human author writing to titus who is another young pastor like
00:00:35.400 timothy he says he that that being an elder must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught so
00:00:42.040 that he may be able to give instruction and sound doctrine and also here it is to rebuke those who
00:00:48.800 contradict it and and notice in this regard it's not just saying rebuke that which contradicts it
00:00:55.440 but those, that being certain doctrines, but in this particular context, those being certain
00:01:00.800 persons who are ultimately peddling those certain doctrines that are contradicting the truth of
00:01:06.620 God's word. And the word here is rebuke. It's a strong word. That doesn't mean mean-spirited,
00:01:14.540 that doesn't mean a sinfully harsh rebuke, but it is firm. It is bold. It is courageous. It is a
00:01:21.560 confrontation. There are times as elders and as all followers of Jesus that we are called clearly
00:01:28.140 in scripture to boldly confront, and not just confronting ideas, but also at times confronting
00:01:34.800 people. We should do this for the glory of God, the good of the sheep, and we should do it with
00:01:40.460 a heart that desires for the individual that we happen to be confronting to ultimately be
00:01:45.760 won over. We don't want to just win the argument. We want to win the person. However, we recognize,
00:01:53.060 last thing I'll say on this particular qualification, we recognize that in some cases,
00:01:56.940 we may not win the person. But we very likely, if God would be so gracious, may win all the
00:02:03.500 bystanders. We might win those who are standing there, witnessing this confrontation. I think
00:02:11.300 that's why things like debate, even a Christian debating atheists and things like that is really
00:02:17.480 fruitful. And I've rarely seen in a public debate where the atheist at the end of it gives his life
00:02:23.920 to Jesus Christ. I haven't seen that, but I have seen and heard testimonies where those in the
00:02:31.440 audience might have been won over. So maybe not necessarily the individual who is publicly being
00:02:37.920 confronted and confronting back, but maybe those who are standing by and watching.
00:02:42.080 And when we think in terms of love, in terms of gentleness, because when it comes to charging
00:02:46.580 and confronting and rebuking, these kinds of things, it's difficult for us at times to
00:02:51.040 have a biblical category for this, because we feel as though, we know it's in the scripture,
00:02:55.300 we know there is a time and a place to rebuke.
00:02:57.880 The funny thing is just every time a rebuke is given, we always, I mean, it's uncanny.
00:03:02.720 So we all recognize this is biblical language.
00:03:04.700 There is a time to rebuke.
00:03:05.600 But what I've witnessed in my personal pastoral experience, every time that a rebuke is given,
00:03:11.060 although we would all acknowledge that there is a time and place for it,
00:03:14.120 every time a rebuke is given, everybody says that was neither the time or the place.
00:03:18.020 So I always wonder, you know, in theory, you guys are telling me that you see it in Scripture,
00:03:23.740 and it's a biblical category, and there is a time and place, and yet every time it's done,
00:03:29.220 the response tends to be, that wasn't the time and place.
00:03:31.700 So I begin to wonder if perhaps you're holding a category biblically in theory,
00:03:37.080 but denying it in practice, which would be disobedience to God's word.
00:03:41.360 That's a rebuke.
00:03:43.380 And I think this is the time and the place.
00:03:45.320 So I want you to receive that humbly.
00:03:47.800 And maybe if the shoe fits, wear it and repent.
00:03:50.760 Feel that conviction.
00:03:51.700 If it doesn't, then just let it slide off your back.
00:03:54.620 It's not for you.
00:03:55.400 But if it's for you, consider that.
00:03:57.120 Pray about that and think, okay, I say there's a time and place for this,
00:04:00.840 but every time it occurs, I'm always kind of upset about it. Do I actually believe there's
00:04:04.760 a time and place for it? And begin to consider that. Wrestle with the scripture. Wrestle with
00:04:09.820 the Spirit of God with that. And if need be, then repent. And if not, then let's move on to
00:04:17.000 the next point. Thanks so much for listening. But real quick, before you go, do us a small favor,
00:04:22.240 take a moment, and leave us a five-star review if you enjoyed the show. This is undoubtedly
00:04:27.380 the best way that you can help us get this biblically faithful content
00:04:31.460 to as many people as possible. Thanks so much.
