Hey guys, real quick before we get started, I have a small request.
00:00:03.420
If you've been blessed by our content and you like this show,
00:00:06.420
would you take just a brief moment and leave us a five-star review?
00:00:09.760
This is quite possibly the most effective thing that you can do
00:00:12.860
to ensure that this content gets out to as many people as possible. Thanks.
00:00:21.360
Will we confess sins publicly in the final judgment and feel guilty in the final judgment?
00:00:26.360
Great question. No. All right. So first I'm going to say no, and then I'm going to say yes.
00:00:31.240
I'll distinguish between the two. I don't think we're going to confess our sins publicly in the
00:00:36.660
final judgment because what that implies was contained in that image is that we're confessing
00:00:42.720
our sins to men. Now we do have biblical commands in this life as a Christian church, confess your
00:00:49.300
sins one to another, not just to the Lord, but one to another that you might pray for one another,
00:01:09.520
And real quick, just on the issue of confession itself,
00:01:26.240
It is acknowledging our sin and agreeing with God about what he says regarding the severity
00:01:36.180
Confessing your sin to the Lord is not informing the Lord of your sin.
00:01:47.500
So confessing your sin to the Lord does not mean that you're informing, merely informing
00:01:52.800
it means that you are acknowledging and agreeing with God about what he says about your sin and
00:01:59.860
the severity of your sin. That's what it is to confess your sin to the Lord. And that also by
00:02:04.800
way of implication includes asking the Lord, petitioning the Lord for forgiveness, forgiveness
00:02:10.400
and restoration that he would heal you. All right. So that's what it is that we need to confess.
00:02:15.680
Everyone has to confess their sin to the Lord because even though he's omniscient, confession
00:02:19.920
is much more than simply information, informing.
00:02:23.180
So we first, we must confess our sins to the Lord,
00:02:27.840
agreeing with God and what he says in his word about our sin,
00:02:37.640
is not a substitute for confessing our sins to the Lord.
00:02:39.960
So in this life, we must confess our sin to the Lord
00:02:45.620
that we need to confess also not only to the Lord,
00:02:48.480
But in addition, not substitution, but in addition, we need to also confess those sins
00:02:53.460
to fellow brothers and sisters in Christ so that, there's a reason, so that they may pray
00:02:58.860
for us so that we might be healed, that we need the prayers of the saints.
00:03:03.360
We need not only our own petition for God to restore us, but we need intercession from
00:03:08.020
other believers that they would also join us, agree with us in prayer, interceding on
00:03:18.020
I think of certain sins that people are bound by, certain foothold type sins, right?
00:03:25.480
I think of not just addiction, substance abuse, those kinds of things, but I think of bitterness.
00:03:30.480
Be careful, brothers, the scripture says, that there not be found in any of you a rotten
00:03:35.620
root of bitterness that would be a foothold, that would be a root that would spring up
00:03:41.360
by which many would be defiled, that it wouldn't just hurt you, but it would hurt the whole
00:03:49.320
So bitterness could be a kind of foothold type sin,
00:04:00.240
And therefore, it makes sense to rally the troops,
00:04:05.340
to join you in praying for you that you might be delivered,
00:04:13.700
that you would stop being, by God's grace, a bitter person.
00:04:19.120
We sometimes confess our sins one to another that we might pray for one another, that we
00:04:26.380
Confession to one another, to our fellow man, is particular, I believe, biblically particular
00:04:31.960
to this life because in this life, we have not reached a state of sinless perfection.
00:04:41.380
So that they might pray for us, so that we might be healed.
00:04:45.460
in heaven with the final judgment, we're all healed. We have reached a state of sinless
00:04:52.300
perfection. First John talks about this. When we see him, talking about Christ, we will be like
00:04:57.620
him for we shall see him as he is. We'll be like Jesus when we, and it's talking about when we go
00:05:03.580
to heaven at the end of this life, when we stand before Christ and we actually see him, it says
00:05:08.940
that immediately, it's an immediately, an immediate transformation. We will be like him in what we
00:05:14.780
regard. Not every regard. He's divine. We won't be divine. We'll always be creatures. We'll never
00:05:21.220
be God. But we will be like him in what way? Sinless. We will see him as he is, that he is
00:05:28.820
the sinless one. He is righteous. And so we have in the gospel, in the finished work of Christ,
00:05:36.680
we have the penalty of sin, the power of sin, and the presence of sin. Christ, through his cross,
00:05:41.880
he has paid the penalty of sin he is also by virtue of his death and resurrection he has broken the
00:05:48.280
power of sin so there is freedom in this life not a state of sinless perfection but that doesn't
00:05:53.220
mean that we're a hopeless cause we can gain real victory in sanctification in this life from the
00:05:58.180
power of sin so the penalty is paid the power is broken but the presence of sin still remains as
00:06:04.100
long as we're in this life right paul says romans chapter 7 sin still resides within the members of
00:06:09.400
my body and then he says at the end of it he doesn't say oh what a wretched man i am who will
00:06:13.940
save my soul no his soul has already been saved what he says is oh what a wretched man i am who
00:06:19.360
will save me from this body of death he recognizes that the completion of his salvation involves not
00:06:25.380
just justification for his soul not just sanctification by the renewing of his mind
00:06:30.200
but also glorification the the resurrection of his physical body so that so that sin would no
00:06:37.360
longer reside within the members of his flesh, that he would be saved, not just from the penalty
00:06:42.680
of sin, the power of sin, but even the mere presence of sin. So at the end of this life,
00:06:48.740
we do reach a state of sinless perfection by virtue of having glorified bodies, our
00:06:53.660
sanctification now complete, our glorification now complete, resurrected bodies, standing before
00:07:00.080
Christ, seeing him as he is, that he is sinless and therefore being like him. And because we will
00:07:06.720
therefore at that point be sinless, we no longer need to be prayed for so that we might be healed.
00:07:13.280
And therefore, I would argue that we no longer need to confess our sins one to another.
00:07:17.220
So in judgment, in the final judgment, I don't believe, let's bring the question back up one
00:07:22.340
more time. Nathan, if you could bring the question up one more time. Again, for those who are maybe
00:07:27.120
just tuning in, this is a question from Roll Flores, Roll Flores, some number, BR, no, not
00:07:35.700
numbers, but letters. Roll Flores, BR, he says, will we confess sins publicly in the final judgment?
00:07:40.840
So I would say, no, we're not going to confess our sins publicly in the sense of them being
00:07:44.620
out loud where other people can hear. I do believe though there will be not so much us
00:07:53.320
confessing our sins to God, but God rather letting us know, reminding us of our sins. I think that it
00:08:00.500
will be the moment where we are informed about our sin because here's the deal. There are sins
00:08:05.120
of commission things we do that are wrong and omission things we don't do that we should that
00:08:10.700
are right and and there are there's so many sins that we don't even know about right now if you're
00:08:16.760
a christian being sanctified you are objectively being formed by the spirit working in conjunction
00:08:22.160
with god's word objectively being conformed more into the image of christ and yet there are sins
00:08:28.600
that you you don't have a victory over yet and there are sins you don't have victory over that
00:08:33.340
you don't even have knowledge about. You don't even know. You don't. Part of sanctification is
00:08:39.300
winning, gaining victory over sin, but part of sanctification is also being further and further
00:08:44.740
informed by the Word of God and receiving the conviction of the Holy Spirit to where we
00:08:49.800
recognize certain things as sin that previously we didn't even know were wrong. There are certain
00:08:54.520
things that I now see are sinful that I did not see as sinful just even a few years ago, even
00:09:00.600
though I was still a Christian at that time. And so I believe that the final judgment will be God
00:09:05.980
informing us of our sin and also informing his law and therefore our sin, but also the gospel
00:09:13.100
that our sin has been atoned for. The penalty has been paid in full by Christ. And I think that
00:09:19.120
that'll be some kind of moment between us and God where God does inform us of all of our sins,
00:09:25.980
but not so much publicly where everybody else knows.
00:09:31.480
a universal spirit of humility among the saints in heaven.
00:09:48.720
people will hear about all our dirty deeds on earth.
00:09:52.080
But we will hear about all our dirty deeds on earth
00:09:55.080
from God himself, and then be reminded of the gospel of Jesus Christ, that they've all been
00:10:00.420
paid in full. Thanks so much for listening. But real quick, before you go, do us a small favor,
00:10:06.520
take a moment, and leave us a five-star review if you enjoyed the show. This is undoubtedly
00:10:11.600
the best way that you can help us get this biblically faithful content
