The Podcast of the Lotus Eaters - Breakfast With Beau ｜ Friday 24th July 2026

00:00:00.000 Morning. You alright?

00:00:03.220 Yeah, I'm fine. Yeah, yeah, I'm good. I'm good.

00:00:04.960 Thanks for joining me.

00:00:06.220 The Glorious Band, The Chosen For You, my band of brothers and sisters.

00:00:08.740 You guys know who you are. You don't need any introduction.

00:00:10.920 It is now 8 in the a.m. British Summertime on Friday.

00:00:14.740 Thank F. It's Friday.

00:00:16.120 On the 24th of July in the year of our Lord, 2026.

00:00:18.860 As always, I'm joined by my producer, Little Harry.

00:00:20.460 How are you this morning? Good sir.

00:00:21.560 Morning. Yeah, I'm all good.

00:00:23.120 Good. Good.

00:00:25.100 We're going to go through the headlines like usual today,

00:00:27.020 but I'm joined by a returning guest.

00:00:30.000 the good professor himself, Mr. Edward Dutton.

00:00:33.860 How are you, sir?

00:00:35.700 Hello. Yes, I'm OK.

00:00:36.960 Yes, I'm all right.

00:00:39.660 Yeah, I'm going to go on holiday.

00:00:40.840 Going on holiday soon.

00:00:41.820 My holiday coming with my family.

00:00:43.780 We're going away at the end of the weekend.

00:00:47.000 Are you going somewhere very hot?

00:00:50.500 Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:00:51.320 Yeah, we're going...

00:00:52.760 Yeah, family trip to Auschwitz.

00:00:55.300 Yeah.

00:00:56.620 You're so deadpan, Ed.

00:00:58.020 i have no idea whether you're joking or not i'm not joking are you really okay yeah it was my

00:01:03.940 wife's idea um she'd always wanted to go so um that's what we're gonna do we're gonna go to go

00:01:08.580 to auschwitz uh and okay with the kids the kids and you can see all the things that the soviets

00:01:14.660 built in the late 40s that'll be cool exactly this is what i'm really really looking forward

00:01:19.460 to i was looking forward to seeing all things the soviets build and um um it should be it should be

00:01:24.980 interesting so it should be i mean i mean that very very sincerely yeah so i'm gonna go there

00:01:30.100 no it's something i wouldn't mind i wouldn't mind visiting in all honesty um it's not really top of

00:01:35.380 my list but yeah i wouldn't mind i wouldn't mind going there so one or two people in the office

00:01:39.000 it was funny how it happened i said to my wife concentrate and book us a holiday in a holiday

00:01:44.720 camp and she misheard me and she thought i said book us a holiday in a concentration camp and so

00:01:51.400 that from from there the you know the holiday just sort of took place i don't know but uh

00:01:57.240 never mind i'll find a way through at least you didn't have to like go camping in a little tent

00:02:03.720 in the forests outside sobibor i mean at least there is some sort of infrastructure i believe

00:02:08.040 in auschwitz around us yeah yeah exactly exactly i should emphasize you we're not actually because

00:02:13.240 when i told my mom about this she got confused and she thought i was saying that we were actually

00:02:17.400 staying in kind of like an auschwitz themed hotel where there would be bunk beds and and and you

00:02:23.160 know weird soap and whatever one of the actual barrack houses on the site exactly exactly because

00:02:29.800 that happened when i was when callum came and we did our film about finland we we stayed in

00:02:34.360 a tuberculosis sanatorium that had been turned into a tuberculosis themed hotel really really

00:02:41.400 so it was just staying literally in what it would have been like to be in a tuberculosis sanatorium

00:02:46.680 in the 30s but it's not like that we're staying in a hotel in crack hour oh good good good good

00:02:52.920 well i hope you enjoy it all right generally let's crack on with this then so what's in the

00:02:57.320 what's in the legacy corporate lamestream media today what's that evil cabal of fleet street

00:03:01.160 editors trying to tell us is or isn't important what they lying to us about by mission if by

00:03:04.360 nothing else we've got burnham eager to get drilling so no stern and burnham king bumham

00:03:10.760 of the north uh he's gonna drill baby drill and tardis fit for a king that's just a story of

00:03:16.940 there's a picture there the commonwealth games kicked off in glasgow of all places and for like

00:03:22.020 the opening ceremony thing which seems to be they seem to be increasingly more surreal don't they in

00:03:26.300 the elaborate uh it seems there was uh i didn't watch it but this is on the front of quite a few

00:03:31.200 papers there's a mock-up of the doctor's tardis and the king and queen came out of it there you

00:03:36.900 go so that's what that's referring to tardis fit for a king all right the times let's start then

00:03:43.200 burnham eager to get drilling in the north sea industry experts uh green light oh sorry industry

00:03:49.300 expects green light to open up new fields so for me ed yeah it's a no-brainer i don't really buy

00:03:56.920 into the man-made co2 drives climate change um so for me it's an absolute no-brainer for our energy

00:04:05.300 security to drill in and they'll see I don't see any cogent reasonable argument not to what's your

00:04:10.960 feelings on all of that yeah I agree with you I mean this from what I've read the uh the level of

00:04:16.820 of co2 follows the warming or something rather than the other way around so uh I get the impression

00:04:23.420 that this is nonsense I get the there's I've seen convincing evidence that the changing climate is

00:04:29.020 to do with sunspot activity which is uh it's across time we've seen that that whenever there's

00:04:35.700 low levels of sunspots it's cold whenever there's high levels of sunspots i.e massive explosions on

00:04:40.620 the sun it's hot so i don't think it's it's man-made and i think the idea that it is man-made

00:04:45.600 is this kind of semi-religious idea that we can control things and that we can behave in ways that

00:04:51.320 influence the gods and whatever and it goes back to that so it's nonsense we shouldn't have stopped

00:04:56.480 drilling in the north sea it wrecked aberdeen for example where i used to live that they that they

00:05:01.720 stopped uh drilling in the north sea and now they're saying if you read about this bow they're

00:05:06.500 saying that the lack of pollution is itself making it hotter but the the yeah did you read about this

00:05:13.280 that the the sort of all the pollutants in the atmosphere were stopping the sun's rays and the

00:05:19.860 sun's heat from fully penetrating and now that there is less pollution that's the reason for all

00:05:24.740 of these heat waves so if anything we need more pollution because it's because it's far too hot

00:05:29.660 so the whole the whole thing is a is a nonsense which i think is just grounded in a kind of

00:05:34.800 religious christian sort of idea that that there is free will and we have to negotiate with the 0.99

00:05:41.300 gods and we can behave in certain ways to get them to do what we want it's rubbish

00:05:44.900 from what i can see and from various scientists i've read so yeah i think we need to drill

00:05:48.920 drill drill and get energy out and hopefully release lots of pollutants and therefore stop

00:05:54.240 all this global warming that's just been going on it's the only prudent thing to do really isn't it

00:05:59.420 i think oh because it's too hot i mean when i was in the uk last month it was absolutely ridiculous

00:06:05.880 i mean it was something like 36 degrees in in london uh it was and on certain uh underground

00:06:13.020 lines in the in the tube it's there's no air conditioning there's no air conditioning as i

00:06:17.000 understand on the central line yeah and i i had a dinner in central in uh the city of london at

00:06:22.500 mercer's hall or somewhere i'm not going to go to that and two-thirds of the people that were

00:06:26.620 supposed to go to this didn't turn up because it was just 200 out of 300 people didn't cut

00:06:31.060 because it was just insane we don't want that so we need yeah more energy more energy to fund

00:06:36.900 so we can have we can all have air conditioning and there's the energy for us to be able to have

00:06:40.820 it they're saying that the lights almost went out on the i think was it 23rd of june it was it was

00:06:47.560 So it was so bad it was so hot

00:06:49.780 There was so much

00:06:50.600 Problems with electricity or

00:06:53.580 Use of air or whatever

00:06:54.800 The lights almost went out we almost had a blackout

00:06:57.640 That's how bad it is so we need more

00:06:59.660 Energy yeah

00:07:01.020 Absolutely this is actually I saw a thing

00:07:03.840 Let's quickly talk about the climate

00:07:05.580 Hoax a bit more there was a thing

00:07:07.320 I usually leave this right to the end of the show don't I

00:07:09.500 On this day in history there was one factoid

00:07:11.640 Here it's very

00:07:12.700 It's very apt

00:07:15.360 Here we go look on this day in

00:07:17.340 2019 global warming is fastest in 2 000 years and scientific consensus that humans are the cause

00:07:26.220 is at 99 according to three major reports published in journals nature and nature geoscience

00:07:33.420 okay a little bit perhaps a little bit of the history of that as well um that going back to the

00:07:38.620 1990s, research that was funded by the UN to find that CO2 drove climate change, or rather man-made

00:07:50.280 CO2 does drive climate change. And ever since then, in the 90s, the so-called hockey stick,

00:07:57.620 you may know about this sort of data and science. And so periodically, we get things exactly like

00:08:04.400 that where it says the debate is over the science is in all the scientists or 99% of the scientists

00:08:10.700 agree there is no doubt that we're in almost a runaway uh spiral of uh temperatures going up

00:08:18.740 and it's because of co2 specifically man-made co2 and whenever i see that i just i i don't buy it i

00:08:25.860 always think no no no no no no no no no no drill into exactly who the scientists are exactly who

00:08:32.580 was funding their research exactly who is peddling the publishing of that of their results etc etc

00:08:38.420 etc when it boils down to it exactly as you said ed it's much more likely that the sun's weather

00:08:44.300 patterns the sun's um different phases drives our climate much more than man-made co2 if man-made

00:08:51.520 co2 is well co2 in total is 400 470 parts per million in our atmosphere and a man-made co2 is

00:08:59.100 maybe half of that and that's at an all-time low on like on the scale of millions of years

00:09:03.960 we're actually in uh in uh we're in an ice age we're just in an interglacial period within an

00:09:10.880 ice age and the the earth's cycles are on the on the scale of hundreds of thousands of years

00:09:17.120 usually go on in scientific terms the theory that makes sense of the most is inherently the

00:09:23.680 best theory it's the most parsimonious theory so if you say well okay it's getting it's getting

00:09:28.940 warm at the moment and we're putting this down to carbon dioxide in the atmosphere or whatever

00:09:32.920 or pollutants or that sort of thing that's very interesting but um what do you how do you explain

00:09:38.500 the previous warm period how do you explain for example the medieval warm period how do you explain

00:09:42.680 the roman warm period and the answer is it seems to relate to sunspots and things like that it's

00:09:48.440 nothing to do with pollutants so wouldn't it make more sense the more parsimonious explanation would

00:09:53.400 explain everything would explain all of the warm periods rather than just this particular warm

00:09:58.720 period um secondly the we were thinking in the 70s that we were going to get into a new ice age

00:10:05.080 that it was too cold um and and then suddenly they're they're they're manifested this idea in

00:10:11.020 the late 80s that there was there was global warming thirdly with the science there's a

00:10:15.220 difference between science which is the pursuit of truth and the science guild if you read thomas

00:10:20.800 kuhn's research well he said what happens is there becomes this idea it becomes popular then

00:10:26.020 everybody shifts over to that idea and then inherently the majority of scientists are the

00:10:30.820 overwhelming majority are going to believe it because it's in the interest of their career

00:10:34.240 to basically keep their heads down and shut up and conform to whatever the dominant way of thinking

00:10:38.160 is the fact that the majority of scientists think it is completely irrelevant the majority of

00:10:42.400 scientists used to believe in newtonian physics then newtonian physics was shown to be incorrect

00:10:47.500 at the subatomic level and then gradually it took a long time but they shifted over and they shifted

00:10:54.000 over on mass eventually to einsteinian physics and there's many many other examples of that so

00:10:59.480 it means nothing that the majority of scientists say something at any given time the majority of

00:11:04.040 scientists say something and they will almost certainly be wrong because we learn more we

00:11:09.200 understand more we gather more information and we nuance things more and so whatever the majority

00:11:13.820 of scientists are saying at any given time is probably wrong and as for the journals well the

00:11:18.920 journals are the most mainstream

00:11:20.820 and therefore the most ideologically

00:11:22.960 captured of any

00:11:25.020 journal. Those high

00:11:26.340 status journals will inherently reflect

00:11:29.240 what the Science

00:11:30.860 Guild is saying. But the fact that

00:11:32.920 the Science Guild is saying it is

00:11:34.520 completely irrelevant. Some people say, oh, appeal to

00:11:36.920 authority, it's inherently good because

00:11:38.780 look, if I ask you

00:11:40.620 to describe the nature of

00:11:42.840 what a

00:11:44.280 foe, what are neutrons made of?

00:11:46.740 quarks you mean quarks or something right okay okay so but that that would be the kind of thing

00:11:54.420 that you would get from gcse science but there's much more complicated questions such as uh you

00:11:59.500 know are quarks made of a wave or whatever where you consult science it's the guild and so their

00:12:06.200 idea is okay well appeal to authority is a good thing to some extent that's true um with at least

00:12:11.880 with questions which aren't particularly controversial

00:12:14.080 or politically incendiary,

00:12:17.160 but with questions which are,

00:12:18.700 then it's a very bad thing to appeal to the Guild

00:12:21.000 because the Guild will be politically manipulated

00:12:24.960 and taken over.

00:12:25.860 So, no, I've no time for it.

00:12:30.060 I think it's a much simpler explanation

00:12:31.560 that we've always had cold and warm periods

00:12:34.320 throughout the period.

00:12:35.480 Yeah.

00:12:36.340 I think it's interesting,

00:12:37.320 just before we move on off of that,

00:12:39.760 I think it's interesting,

00:12:40.380 when you look back through...

00:12:41.880 a deep time the geological time periods of the earth got everything from sort of uh

00:12:49.240 tropical conditions on antarctica to a snowball earth type scenario where glaciers would come

00:12:56.200 down as far as florida and stuff as far as spain um and that we now seem to be in some sort of

00:13:04.920 absolute all-time low for co2 in the atmosphere absolute low and uh and as i say we have ice

00:13:15.000 ages the the come and go on the scale of in in the hundreds of thousands of years and within those

00:13:22.200 ice ages you have interglacial periods where you're actually in an ice age but the glaciers

00:13:28.840 have receded quite far and that almost certainly right now in 2026 the year of our lord

00:13:35.800 we're in an interglacial period within an ice age and therefore nowhere near a global warming let

00:13:42.200 alone a runaway global warming type situation and yeah i remember i've seen the clip of leonard

00:13:46.280 nemo i don't remember it firsthand i wasn't born but leonard nimoy you know spock in the 70s talking

00:13:51.480 about that there's going to be a new ice age and stuff so i'm just not buying uh that we need to

00:13:57.720 rework our entire economy and the infrastructure of our all our energy in order to prevent some

00:14:04.120 sort of runaway greenhouse effect i just think it's liars it's hysteria it's hysteria it's a

00:14:09.560 kind of self-flagellation before the gods uh that there there are things happening that we can't

00:14:15.000 understand or that we don't like well there's change happening and we don't like it we don't

00:14:19.480 understand it and we've we've made a new god and that god is gaia that god is gaia that god is the

00:14:25.800 earth itself and we will make a sacrifice we will wear uh we will do penance we will we we

00:14:32.760 will wear uncomfortable clothing and hair shirt hair shirts exactly we we we will do that and

00:14:41.000 hopefully the gods will be nice to us and that goes back to a particular christian theological

00:14:47.000 view wherein we feel that we can negotiate a we feel a sense of sin and evil and that we're

00:14:53.400 inherently bad and we need to and guilt and that we have to do things to placate god to to to show

00:14:59.240 our our sorrow and whatever um um to to to to the gods and b that we have a sort of a sense of

00:15:06.860 control over what we do so it's like we we we can we can influence the gods a different world view

00:15:14.060 of the pagans or even the calvinists is no there's there's there's no free will and god is just in

00:15:19.660 charge and he dictates things so it's a particular kind of theology it reflects so there's no reason

00:15:24.380 for that to be congruous with the with the way things are uh as far as i can see from there's a

00:15:29.560 very good book i've got here somewhere by james telling pole uh what was it called now watermelons

00:15:34.580 it's called um and he and he he he looks at all the the the available studies and it was very

00:15:40.700 convincing that no as i say carbon dioxide changes come uh are a consequence of warming not the other

00:15:47.660 way around uh and and that this is this is a hysteria that we've got ourselves into you know

00:15:53.540 like the tulip craze or whatever yeah this the psychology one last thing to say on it it's very

00:15:59.200 i find it very interesting the psychology to think that we completely dominate human activity

00:16:08.520 completely dominates the the climate of the earth and and that it's within our power to

00:16:15.460 Manipulate that and change that

00:16:17.360 That weather patterns

00:16:19.600 Should stay exactly as they were

00:16:21.380 In what the late 19th century through the 20th century

00:16:23.780 And any deviation from that is

00:16:25.560 Somehow an abomination 0.99

00:16:27.340 A human made abomination and as you say 1.00

00:16:29.260 We have to flagellate ourselves over it 1.00

00:16:30.980 It just seems on a number of levels

00:16:33.560 Like a psychological

00:16:35.300 Some sort of

00:16:37.340 Malady of the mind that you're not

00:16:39.540 Viewing the earth

00:16:41.720 And climate in a normal

00:16:43.120 Reasonable way

00:16:45.460 seems to me you're viewing yourself and your own period of living as the only way things can

00:16:53.260 possibly be and you've lost all knowledge of history yes it's very very cold and you used

00:16:59.180 to have ice fairs on the thames uh if you go back to 1800 or something like that but if you go back

00:17:05.060 a lot further you're growing grapes in many many parts of the uk including in york in york so that's

00:17:12.300 that's how warm it was in the in the medieval period um and it was similarly warm and in there

00:17:18.520 was a roman cold period in the roman warm period so it's completely ahistorical it's the idea that

00:17:24.340 the way it is now is the way it always has been and the way it always will be and if it isn't it's

00:17:28.120 a crisis and it must be something we've done and that fits into an adaptation where we where we

00:17:32.960 feel a sense of agency and we feel a sense that we can control things and that leads to us feeling

00:17:37.720 all we have to do is just do something we can just do something and we can make things as we

00:17:42.600 want it to be it's a bit like it reminds me of communism in the sense that there's this feeling

00:17:45.940 that if we could just do we have the power we have the power to change everything and if we

00:17:50.660 could just do something then we could make the world better but and it forgets that no humans

00:17:55.260 are genetically hardwired in various ways there's nothing we can actually do about it that we're

00:17:59.000 powerless yeah yeah no actually so i feel like um the idea that for ideological reasons for science

00:18:08.720 reasons we shouldn't drill in the null c is just complete ball pop and it seems that no stern and

00:18:14.760 burnham has actually decided that we shall just drill in the null c so okay i welcome that moving

00:18:21.100 on to the express then it's a good paper you can read your express now do you like alan partridge

00:18:26.040 Ed

00:18:26.400 I think I asked you this before

00:18:28.280 You don't mind Partridge

00:18:29.360 But you don't like Coogan

00:18:30.840 Is that right?

00:18:31.780 Yeah, yeah, yeah

00:18:32.240 We had this discussion

00:18:33.540 It's equivalent to Philip Larkin

00:18:35.800 Yeah, yeah

00:18:36.520 Yeah, that's right

00:18:36.980 I remember now, yeah

00:18:37.780 Little stories in some of the papers

00:18:39.880 This 15-year-old girl and her mother

00:18:42.200 Both drowned in the sea

00:18:45.380 In Essex

00:18:47.080 Trying to save the seven-year-old

00:18:49.060 And the seven-year-old survived

00:18:51.060 But they didn't

00:18:51.820 I would say

00:18:52.960 If you can't swim

00:18:54.360 Don't go in the sea

00:18:57.360 Seems to be quite a lot of people

00:18:59.680 Well not a lot of people

00:19:00.540 But some people

00:19:01.640 This summer

00:19:03.160 It's not that uncommon

00:19:04.440 They get in trouble in a reservoir

00:19:06.500 A lake

00:19:07.200 A river

00:19:07.740 The sea

00:19:08.580 It turns out they just basically

00:19:10.960 Essentially couldn't swim

00:19:11.980 Yeah what were they doing in there

00:19:14.540 If they couldn't swim 0.94

00:19:15.200 That was a very good idea 0.75

00:19:16.660 Seems like a pretty straightforward

00:19:19.120 Cause and effect thing

00:19:20.260 Okay

00:19:20.620 Reform pledge to build Nightingale prisons

00:19:23.820 to keep criminals off the streets new cells will end the early release scandal one thing when i

00:19:29.380 first saw this i was like what what night ago you know sometimes when the the world whether it's

00:19:33.940 adverts or whether it's the corporate mainstream media or whatever they come up with a new term

00:19:37.540 a new thing it's just made up that day you've never heard it before you're supposed to accept

00:19:41.380 it as though like that's a thing i was like wait wait wait wait nightingale prisons what are you

00:19:45.960 talking about i had to google it what it was are they guarded by nightingales

00:19:51.760 I really didn't know

00:19:56.180 So during the Covid era

00:19:58.180 They made sort of temporary

00:20:00.160 Even prefab hospitals

00:20:02.280 Or 0.99

00:20:03.600 Jabbing stations 0.77

00:20:05.280 And they called them Nightingale hospitals 0.62

00:20:07.840 So it's a play

00:20:10.340 On that

00:20:10.880 Basically prefab prisons

00:20:13.280 Like

00:20:14.560 They've decided to call them Nightingale prisons

00:20:18.340 And that's what Reform

00:20:20.160 said they're going to do to sort of ease the release the the the pressure on our prisons my

00:20:25.480 feeling is that we need to deport between 10 and 20 million people and thusly might be a bit of a

00:20:33.240 lag thusly the massive amount of pressure would come off our prison estate what do you feel about

00:20:38.940 that yeah deport 20 million people that's that's obvious that goes without saying i mean that's

00:20:44.300 just any reasonable person with any love for their country would accept that without without question

00:20:49.400 um but um why does it have to be all these prisons i mean why not other things like flogging

00:20:55.400 that it's not i was reading it's a 60 000 pounds a year but i god knows why they get rubbish food

00:21:04.040 and they don't have much to do yeah but apparently it's 60 000 pounds a year to keep a bloke in prison 0.52

00:21:09.340 right whereas surely and you would agree both surely you know like 10 strokes with a birch

00:21:16.200 can be done in seconds

00:21:19.360 by a guy

00:21:22.640 who's charged

00:21:23.840 eager sadists would probably

00:21:26.900 pay to do the job 0.96

00:21:28.080 and so

00:21:30.520 we could actually make it profitable

00:21:32.700 profitable

00:21:33.520 and maybe even

00:21:36.920 if we were to put it on

00:21:37.940 like stream it on like pay-per-view

00:21:40.220 on cable TV or on the internet

00:21:42.620 it would actually be

00:21:44.500 severely profit making

00:21:46.140 Wouldn't that solve a lot of problems

00:21:50.100 That would solve the £60,000 a year problem

00:21:52.260 Wouldn't it

00:21:52.720 Ten strokes of the birch

00:21:55.820 I mean that's pretty wet 0.96

00:21:58.260 That's pretty liberal

00:21:59.020 I'm thinking more 200 licks of the cat of nine tails

00:22:02.080 That's what I'd like to see 1.00

00:22:03.100 Flay a man's back 0.97

00:22:04.800 Down to the bone

00:22:08.460 Just like Wellington used to do

00:22:11.340 That's a lot

00:22:12.560 If you consider that it's nine strokes per stroke 0.99

00:22:15.420 Yeah you'd kill a man 1.00

00:22:17.880 That would kill a man 1.00

00:22:18.520 I think you know actually

00:22:22.620 In Wellington's army in the

00:22:24.780 Peninsular war quite often

00:22:26.820 You'd get sentenced to something like

00:22:28.840 100 or 200

00:22:30.000 Lashes and yeah

00:22:32.700 Sometimes it would

00:22:34.560 Kill a man yeah absolutely

00:22:35.880 So it depends on what your crime is 0.99

00:22:38.940 Doesn't it if you stole

00:22:40.000 A sandwich from

00:22:42.760 Greg's probably 200

00:22:44.520 strokes of the cat is a bit much but uh yeah uh yeah no i mean

00:22:49.640 i would just like to see our population reduced massively and it will take pressure off

00:22:55.600 everything wouldn't it school classroom sizes the waiting list for doctors and dentists and

00:23:01.640 and the actual hospital and the prison just everything my primary school my primary school

00:23:08.720 is now completely different from how it was when i went there they've built all over the playground

00:23:12.820 with little new classrooms there was a school orchard school orchard to teach kids about

00:23:18.340 growing stuff and that that was built over even while i was while i was there so so so it was

00:23:25.100 built a nice school with nice grounds and a reasonable number of people the population is

00:23:30.120 too high and it needs to be very heavily reduced but it can't be reduced in such a way that oh 0.99

00:23:35.460 people don't have children and so then you just have lots of old people because then just you

00:23:39.460 have lots of unproductive people and you have a very conservative society that doesn't like any

00:23:44.220 kind of innovation or new things or or whatever that's that's not what actually is happening in

00:23:48.880 japan can't have that it just has to be the mass deportation of people that don't have any business

00:23:53.740 being in the country in the first place yeah dan uh did an interesting segment on this uh earlier

00:23:59.020 in the week and he said sort of i can only agree with him uh a program of mass remigration for a 0.94

00:24:05.900 lot of people, strangers, foreigners, that should not be here, got no right, really, to be here. 0.89

00:24:09.900 And also a set of policies that encourage natalism, encourage having children for the 1.00

00:24:16.520 native white Brits, some sorts of tax and housing carrots to entice people to have more children 0.73

00:24:23.720 more early in life for the native population. So the double whammy of those things, that seems 0.72

00:24:30.240 good and reasonable to me. The idea that we need to import lots and lots of foreign people in order 1.00

00:24:35.200 to care for our aging population is obviously mad because they themselves assuming they stay

00:24:41.280 they themselves then become old don't they a few decades later so you're not actually solving the

00:24:49.360 problem in any sense you're actually making it a lot worse you're also you're also not solving 0.95

00:24:55.920 the problem because having an aging population creates other problems even if you could have 0.97

00:25:00.920 even if you've got people from abroad or whatever who are who are looking after them it creates a

00:25:05.900 culture of a lack of innovation of extreme sort of conservatism and not in a good way um and uh

00:25:13.320 and and so it it doesn't help it it's you have you have to have a young population that's what

00:25:19.920 we had in the 80s because of the boomers we had a young popular in the 70s and look at all the

00:25:24.840 innovation we had all the interesting stuff like all the interesting movies and original stuff and 1.00

00:25:30.100 and now it's just remakes because that's what happens in a society of people that are old 0.96

00:25:34.540 and it permeates out to the rest of the culture you don't want to take risks you don't like change

00:25:39.840 and so you have remakes you know now they've remade little house on the prairie what's the

00:25:44.960 point of that just watch little house on the prairie what in the name of god is the point of

00:25:49.820 remaking little house on the prairie but they have they've and they've remade out of green gables

00:25:54.720 constant remakes nothing new no risks they're going to remake the waltons

00:26:00.620 if they remake coronation street but like starting from the beginning

00:26:06.320 it is um it is interesting to see it when you when you look at history you know a fair bit

00:26:12.860 about history and you see where cultures certain civilizations become effectively

00:26:18.140 stagnant and inward looking and just uh try and recreate the glories of the past first thing that

00:26:23.900 springs to mind and there's so many examples of this in history the first thing that springs to

00:26:26.660 mind is so there's some of the later periods of egyptian history ancient egyptian history even

00:26:32.580 by the middle kingdom they're looking back and trying to recreate the old kingdom times and

00:26:39.040 doing it in a far inferior way uh that their their their innovation their their spark whatever you

00:26:47.000 want to call it um it is has gone out and all they can do is try and reboot and remake and try

00:26:53.580 and emulate what came before and there's there's no there's no real they're not they're not as

00:26:59.960 clever they've built civilization they've built certain amenities of civilization which makes

00:27:04.440 life less harsh and that means that people that are of lower intelligence are able to have

00:27:09.600 successfully have more children and people that are higher up just don't want to have children

00:27:13.560 because they're less instinctive and they're in an evolutionary mismatch where there's not enough

00:27:16.880 death and so therefore they we know that if you prime people with death then their instincts come

00:27:21.460 out this includes religiosity and wanting to have children um and so then i mean look at the pyramids

00:27:26.220 look at the way they get smaller and smaller and smaller and smaller and and so so you can

00:27:32.680 literally trace across time proto-pyramids that then get really big and then it's it's the size

00:27:39.260 of the pyramids parallels like the intelligence and the innovativeness of the population it's

00:27:43.240 fascinating there's a great number of examples of that through history where um it just it just

00:27:49.380 piece they don't get better and better and more efficient it degenerates and i feel like just

00:27:53.800 just one data point is just like the state of hollywood at the moment or tv that there's just

00:27:57.700 endless remakes and reboots and the that there's not much there's not not much originality there

00:28:03.200 and the quality and when things are an original piece it's the quality isn't as good as it used

00:28:09.240 to be i think it's a very telling sort of data point but okay let's move on here um here well

00:28:14.620 in the independent the banner it's only the banner i know it's not the actual headlights

00:28:17.820 a banner but let's talk about it anyway it says tax cuts pints in pubs are we heading for a snap

00:28:23.380 general election i don't think so i think burnham has said quite clearly a number of times he doesn't

00:28:27.720 intend to hold the general election but he is the messiah without a mandate isn't he beyond

00:28:32.120 the 25 000 people that voted for him in makerfield and 330 odd labour mps that uh gave him his

00:28:38.720 coronation but ed what do you what are your thoughts and feelings about burnham and his

00:28:45.260 mandate or the lack thereof and the idea of a general election would you like to see one are

00:28:51.180 you indifferent well uh first of all this idea that you don't have a mandate as prime minister

00:28:57.220 unless you have won an election is a very new thing and it's manifested because we because in

00:29:04.240 recent history we've had two prime ministers that have become very presidential because they've been

00:29:08.640 in power for so long one and also that came in on a on an election that came in on a mandate

00:29:14.640 are you talking about blair and cameron or thatcher and blair and thatcher blair and thatcher

00:29:19.660 they were both in for a decade or more and they both came in on in an election so they inherently

00:29:26.140 had a mandate and and then they made sort of radical change for the country and so on and so

00:29:31.380 we think of ourselves as this idea that a prime minister doesn't have a mandate if they're not

00:29:34.460 elected but that that historically we're going back to to the norm now the norm but it was a

00:29:41.040 weird period of relative peace uh and relative economic security under mrs thatcher under major

00:29:48.000 blair and brown that was it was that it was this peculiar period that's unusual uh over the cycle

00:29:54.000 of a hundred years and normally you go through prime ministers and um people didn't talk about

00:29:59.860 when jim callaghan became prime minister he wouldn't say he didn't have a mandate he had a

00:30:03.520 mandate because he had the support of more than half of the parliament uh of the house of commons

00:30:08.680 that was his mandate and people didn't say he went John Major there was some murmurings about

00:30:14.600 oh he hasn't won an election because we'd had Thatcher for 10 years or 11 years but even then

00:30:19.780 it's a relatively new idea that you have to have you have to have won an election to have mandate

00:30:24.820 an election was won but with him it's more strange I didn't discuss this before it's more weird with

00:30:29.960 him because he I can't think of another example in recent history he wasn't actually elected to

00:30:37.340 parliament on the on the policies of the Labour Party at all so the nearest equivalent would be

00:30:44.940 the making some peer of the realm prime minister something like that and of course appear in

00:30:49.960 Victorian times and of course a peer of the realm isn't elected but on the other hand you could

00:30:55.060 argue well he was still a member of the Labour Party and so in theory we expect him to at least

00:31:01.140 have implicitly supported the policies of the Labour Party or presumably he would have left

00:31:05.080 the Labour Party so I'm I'm I'm not so I'm not so bothered about this this um that he doesn't

00:31:11.760 personally have a mandate issue I'm more positive about the clock I think that he had he has as much

00:31:19.620 of a mandate as most privatists in history he has as much of a mandate as as uh as Callahan as much

00:31:25.680 of a mandate as Alex Douglas Hume as much of a mandate as John Major as anybody that has

00:31:30.840 that was started mid-term.

00:31:33.320 What's more bizarre is that you have a person that comes in

00:31:36.860 with a whopping majority, a massive majority,

00:31:40.200 and then doesn't even last one term.

00:31:44.140 I don't know when that last happened.

00:31:46.420 That's extraordinary.

00:31:47.880 It's absolutely bizarre.

00:31:49.960 That's the weird thing.

00:31:51.480 Yeah, but of course, both Boris and Starmer,

00:31:53.900 that applies to you, doesn't it?

00:31:54.900 Both of them.

00:31:55.180 Yeah, both of them.

00:31:56.320 It's interesting you make that point.

00:31:58.500 um but i think um while you was talking i was thinking but there's shades of it degrees of it

00:32:06.340 um so you're quite right to point out that what like reishi didn't go back to the people

00:32:10.800 um i don't think list trust had any intention of doing that um uh gordon brown didn't john

00:32:18.240 major didn't a number a number of them and going back through the centuries even a number of them

00:32:22.040 didn't but then and that's a fair point it's a fair point um but then there's degrees of it

00:32:27.800 though aren't there uh where i feel like some some examples are sort of more egregious than

00:32:33.480 others and i just i in my opinion i feel like the burnham case is particularly egregious like he

00:32:40.480 particularly doesn't have because you you mentioned the man there's an idea of a mandate

00:32:45.940 from the people and a parliamentary mandate a popular mandate i feel like his popular mandate

00:32:52.820 is just not it's almost non-existent it's just not really there i wonder if he did you know put

00:32:58.620 it another way i wonder if he did call an election right now what the pop what the popular vote would

00:33:03.300 be for labor and if it was shown to be really quite small then um and they lost government

00:33:09.960 um it would be fair to have described him as somebody without a mandate uh but nonetheless

00:33:17.040 That's an interesting point you make.

00:33:20.860 John Major did go to the people.

00:33:23.760 John Major did.

00:33:24.840 But, yeah, I agree with you.

00:33:27.020 He is a particularly egregious example

00:33:31.660 because he wasn't even a member of Parliament at all

00:33:37.820 when he decided to run for leader

00:33:40.880 and he wasn't elected as part of this government at all.

00:33:45.760 So he is he it's I can't think of any other example at all of someone that has come from that was not involved in the election.

00:33:52.680 The only one is Alec Douglas Hume.

00:33:57.460 Which is that Alec Douglas Hume was a peer of the realm, but he was a member of the government.

00:34:01.880 He was a member of Harold Macmillan's government and then he was made prime minister.

00:34:06.080 When Macmillan stood in whatever election it was, 59, Alec Douglas Hume was part of the cabinet.

00:34:12.920 So I can't think of any other example of it

00:34:15.700 No

00:34:15.920 Was that Anthony Eden

00:34:18.800 And then Hume

00:34:21.580 Anthony Eden

00:34:23.840 Macmillan then Hume

00:34:25.760 Right okay

00:34:26.240 Just a very quick point

00:34:31.900 On John Major

00:34:32.340 Didn't John Major

00:34:33.180 Coo out Margaret Thatcher in like

00:34:35.320 1990, 1991 0.99

00:34:37.060 And there was going to be a general election

00:34:39.160 Anyway in 1992

00:34:40.560 so he just waited till then so he did just sit there he didn't call an election right away

00:34:45.980 he just waited a year or 18 months before one was going to happen anyway i can't but yeah that's

00:34:52.460 that's correct and he he removed thatcher was removed in november 1990 and he um he waited

00:35:00.200 he had to have an election because elections are normally every four years but they have to be every

00:35:05.100 five years and he simply he simply waited and then there was there was an election a year and

00:35:11.960 a half or whatever after he was again prime minister okay there's wildfires all across

00:35:17.220 europe ed there's wildfires don't worry about that it happens every year and it's perfectly

00:35:22.440 natural but there's wildfires be worried well there's more wildfire because it's hotter because

00:35:28.120 apparently there's not enough pollution

00:35:29.460 but

00:35:30.660 I saw one start once

00:35:33.640 I was

00:35:34.040 about 1995 or something

00:35:36.260 me and my parents were in some

00:35:39.080 I think it was Spain

00:35:41.440 maybe southern Spain

00:35:42.780 and we were sitting in the garden of some

00:35:45.480 restaurant in the country

00:35:47.640 quite high up on a

00:35:49.320 mountain I suppose

00:35:50.420 and we were just sitting there

00:35:53.300 looking over this field and we saw

00:35:55.440 this spark, we just saw this spark

00:35:58.120 And then we watched, and everybody else watched,

00:36:02.940 as this field just caught fire down in the valley.

00:36:07.700 And eventually, I guess, somebody must have telephoned the emergency services.

00:36:12.420 And by the time the helicopter arrived and started spraying it with water,

00:36:16.400 about half of this field was just on fire.

00:36:20.320 Spontaneous field combustion.

00:36:21.940 Just a little spark somehow.

00:36:24.260 I don't know exactly what caused it, but a little spark.

00:36:27.040 And you saw it, you saw the glint as it happened

00:36:29.440 And then it spread throughout the field

00:36:31.400 And it is a perfectly

00:36:32.980 It is a perfectly natural phenomenon

00:36:35.700 Isn't it?

00:36:37.020 Well in fact it's required isn't it

00:36:39.140 For the rejuvenation of

00:36:40.260 Part of the land

00:36:42.160 Burnham puts early prisoner release scheme on hold

00:36:45.220 Says the Independent, also the Daily Telegraph

00:36:47.160 Burnham orders halt to early release

00:36:48.620 So that's one of the things

00:36:49.300 I made a point yesterday

00:36:51.580 I wonder what your take would be on it Ed

00:36:53.420 I find it concerning

00:36:56.060 that the government and not just Burnham it seems like but Starmer was guilty of it and a lot of the

00:37:01.700 last 10 years or so of Tory governments were guilty of it of just seeming to react and changing

00:37:08.060 national government policy on the back of quite simply if there's enough pressure or limelight

00:37:14.960 coming from the media then they will change policy otherwise not it seems to me this prisoner thing

00:37:22.620 because there was enough enough uproar in the media about those two young men that may well

00:37:28.880 be released after dragging that cop along the road and killing him now they're looking at

00:37:33.900 changing the policy and if there wasn't that much uh pressure on them they wouldn't do and i made

00:37:40.700 the argument that that's an extremely shaky and extremely dodgy way of of doing government do you

00:37:48.680 think i'm overreacting i've just got the wrong end of the stick on that i think i think you're

00:37:52.360 Right. I think you're right, Beau. It's a double-edged sword. It's like Margaret Thatcher.

00:37:56.620 She comes up with a policy, the poll tax. It's incredibly unpopular. She refuses to bend on it.

00:38:04.360 She refuses to move. And that was the thing that helped to have her removed from power. 0.99

00:38:10.000 But on the other hand, at least it's reassuring to think that you've got someone in charge of

00:38:15.040 the country that has clear ideas about how things should be done, is confident in themselves and in

00:38:21.600 what they uh what they think has a plan which they at least think is a good plan which will

00:38:28.140 have positive results in the end uh one of the things that the conservatives argued yes it hurt

00:38:33.560 but yes it works so when she came in she said that the country is in chaos we need to sort out

00:38:39.720 this the the british disease of being uh governed by trade unions of constant strikes uh of us being

00:38:47.440 the poor sick man of Europe we need to do these things we need to we need to um denationalize

00:38:53.800 various industries that aren't making any money we need to uh we need to open up the economy so

00:38:59.380 that we can make lots of money these are the things we have to do and these are incredibly

00:39:03.040 unpopular when she was doing them at first in the early 80s they were unbelievably unpopular

00:39:09.000 but they uh but she said no we're doing it anyway I don't care how unpopular I am

00:39:13.240 And eventually the results were there. And then she was reelected in 87 with a with a massive majority, having done these unpopular things, having taken on the unions.

00:39:22.480 So that's good. But if it goes too far, if you come up with an unpopular policy, which nobody likes and you won't you won't renege on it, then that's that's that's obviously that was the problem.

00:39:32.780 But, yeah, it just makes it look like they don't really have any ideas. They're just they're just in power, but they don't know what to do with the power.

00:39:38.960 they have no plan for the country they have there are various problems that are very bad problems

00:39:43.480 like housing costs and too many people and uh inter-ethnic strife and low trust in authorities

00:39:49.960 and all this stuff there are various problems need to be solved and they've got no idea how to solve

00:39:55.160 them and so they're just living moment by moment trying something out oh it's not popular it gets

00:40:00.120 bad headlines as it comes across there's a weak disorganized government with no plan that's what

00:40:05.760 it seems like to me whereas at least if they did it is they said no our policy is to release

00:40:10.500 prisoners early this is our policy we think it will have positive consequences in the end these

00:40:15.100 are what they are so judge us in a few years time then at least that would be more reassuring that

00:40:20.620 we have people in power that know what they're doing and have a clear plan for the country this

00:40:24.180 just makes them seem weak yeah yeah yeah it's gone back on the policy on other policies that

00:40:29.660 starboard was going to bring in as well like to do with pubs there's other ones um it just makes

00:40:34.540 d cards weak and just subject to the whim of the people yeah absolutely i wouldn't want a

00:40:40.280 completely inflexible completely deaf government because that way lies like ceauchescu right

00:40:48.020 that's not good but but but not to just run around like a headless chicken i mentioned the

00:40:53.680 duke of wellington at waterloo now i'm not just gonna always react and run around like a headless

00:40:59.380 chicken when something moves i'm not going to do that that's as you say just weak it doesn't just

00:41:03.980 look weak i think it is weak right um so i feel like the real prerequisite to be in government

00:41:11.700 is to have a vision of what you want and do the guts to stick by it when you get a bit of flat

00:41:20.080 from the likes of the bloody telegraph or the metro to stick by to ignore that noise

00:41:25.460 it will be popular in the short term but you have to have the confidence that having done

00:41:31.900 your calculations and so forth that it will have positive results in the long term and that's not

00:41:36.620 the case with prisons all they're thinking is prisons are overcrowded uh human rights whatever

00:41:42.800 uh we can't just stick loads of them in a room like like they do in el salvador and uh so so

00:41:49.140 what can we you know let's just release loads of them oh we're getting we're getting flack we're

00:41:53.280 getting uh emotional articles because a police officer was killed this look makes us look bad

00:41:58.920 will change up will u-turn and that's when you when the people say the government u-turns then

00:42:03.800 that's when people just see the government as weak and they're not doing anything and they're

00:42:07.420 not they can't they can't sort anything out and so you might as well vote for somebody else yeah

00:42:12.240 yeah quick story here won't spend too long on this but in the ongoing uh trial between trump

00:42:17.480 and the bbc in in florida i think is uh i find it fascinating that the bbc is trying to trying

00:42:23.340 to get trump in the in the uh what's the the phase of the trial where you did disclosure

00:42:28.100 trying to get Trump's personal messages even trying to prove that he did in fact want to

00:42:36.040 incite violence on the 6th of January so they've decided it seems like this article points that

00:42:42.220 what makes the point it seems like the BBC have moved from just simply trying to say sorry yeah

00:42:48.420 the panorama thing was disingenuous and disingenuous and we're sorry about that they seem

00:42:53.500 to have moved their strategy to now let's try and go on the attack let's try and prove that Trump

00:42:58.020 did actually in his heart or in his soul or at least privately on messages uh actually want to

00:43:03.380 incite violence on the 6th of january um i just find that interesting and uh have you got any

00:43:08.780 feelings on the trump bbc trial i i yeah i only hope that trump hasn't kept copious diaries

00:43:16.740 because this is what did for david irving he sued he sued uh deborah lipstat and penguin books

00:43:24.660 proclaiming that he was a holocaust denier and a not sympathizer and a racist and whatever

00:43:29.180 and then in the disclosure aspect of the trial he was open about the fact rather foolishly

00:43:35.400 that he kept copious diaries and they and they demanded his personal diaries during the disclosure

00:43:41.920 which he happened which he gave to them and of course then they went through the personal diaries

00:43:46.740 and found uh him expressing his his thoughts and feelings in a way that weren't exactly helpful to

00:43:52.440 his case right so it's it's it's it's very um it's it's it's you've got to be very careful if

00:43:59.800 you're gonna you're they they they can basically ask ask for your diaries like a window into your

00:44:04.700 soul and then you use it against you so i i um yeah it'll be very very that would be what they'd

00:44:11.520 have to do they'd have to prove that he that they were correct um and therefore i don't i don't

00:44:17.220 understand why that's the case though i mean like whether or not he did deliberately cause the

00:44:21.720 january 6th riots they still misrepresented him to make him seem worse than he was yeah so i don't

00:44:29.560 understand why that should be a defense um they didn't i think they didn't have the evidence at

00:44:35.660 the time for it to be correct to say whether they then subsequently get the evidence is irrelevant

00:44:42.120 so i think that's that's a bad aspect of the legal system if you can say no we didn't have

00:44:46.240 the evidence when we said it but now we've gone and got it and we are right no it should be you

00:44:50.720 didn't have the evidence when you said it so you shouldn't have said it so you're wrong and you

00:44:54.160 have to pay out yeah no quite right quite right here's a story i think it's interesting because

00:45:00.300 where uh burnham has come in and he said oh the us the us air force at least can in fact use some

00:45:08.500 of our air bases i think they already were but he's he's redoubled down said no you can particularly

00:45:13.340 the B-1 bomber flying out of Fairford, RAF Fairford, which is not very far from where I'm

00:45:22.000 sitting. It's just on the Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Baldess, just north of where I'm

00:45:25.520 sitting right now, RAF Fairford. Iran threatens RAF base, RAF Fairford, and Royal Family, 0.82

00:45:32.180 indirectly, after a wave of US strikes. Iran have just said any base that US planes fly out of

00:45:40.100 that bomb us Iran is a fair target what do you think of the escalating war in the Persian Gulf 0.96

00:45:47.420 are you concerned about have you got Persia Iran fatigue do you follow it very closely yeah I have 1.00

00:45:53.620 I've got I've got I've got fatigue um I just take the view look we can't we need to be have we need

00:46:00.140 to have the attitude much more of a kind of an Edwardian gentleman in his in his club that's what

00:46:05.940 we that's what we need and we need to say our civilization is based around oil and we that is

00:46:13.660 very important that we get that oil and if countries are going to mess up countries that have

00:46:18.460 that are relevant to our ability to obtain oil are going to mess us about then we need to invade

00:46:24.640 those countries and that's it that is basically we can't we can't allow this we who who is in

00:46:31.420 charge of the world is the western people and we can't have this and that would be in edward in

00:46:38.840 england that would just go without saying we're not having this but you're not messing us around

00:46:43.000 you're not stopping us from accessing the resources that we need you're not going to do that and if

00:46:47.660 you do we we we we we come in i can't believe we allowed the iranian revolution to happen in the

00:46:54.400 first place i mean it was ridiculous we had a we had a a friendly dictator in iran and uh and then 0.89

00:47:01.880 we allowed him to be overthrown and replaced by these these religious fanatics and it's not good

00:47:07.840 enough i think we need to just go in there and sort it out well 1979 wouldn't that be jimmy

00:47:14.380 carter jimmy carter was a bit wet wasn't he he was never probably going to invade yeah okay

00:47:20.240 Fair enough

00:47:20.740 Here's an interesting

00:47:21.720 Slightly interesting story

00:47:22.780 It says

00:47:23.020 Badenoch slams door

00:47:24.200 On Shaps as MP 1.00

00:47:25.480 So that would be

00:47:26.040 Grant Shaps 0.98

00:47:26.980 Anyone who doesn't remember

00:47:28.400 You must remember

00:47:29.060 He only lost his seat

00:47:30.740 Like last year

00:47:31.600 Or in 2024

00:47:32.380 Before that

00:47:33.220 He was like

00:47:33.720 He was Home Secretary

00:47:34.700 Very briefly

00:47:35.520 Under Trust

00:47:37.000 He was also

00:47:38.320 Defence Secretary

00:47:39.340 Under Rishi

00:47:41.240 And he's just been

00:47:42.060 In and around

00:47:42.700 Government and the Cabinet

00:47:43.680 For quite a few years

00:47:44.700 But he did lose his seat

00:47:45.840 At the last one

00:47:46.540 And

00:47:47.280 Kemi Badenoch

00:47:48.160 According to this

00:47:48.800 Has blocked him

00:47:50.140 even being selected to stand again so this is all part of sort of her broader thing of trying to

00:47:55.740 trying to purge the conservative party of wets what do you think about that yeah good

00:48:02.940 good she's good on her yeah i mean i don't i don't know if we if we must have um a foreigner

00:48:09.260 as prime minister again uh if we if we if we if we must have an anchor baby a literal anchor baby

00:48:17.580 as Prime Minister that seems to have recently adopted an English accent.

00:48:21.760 There's interviews with her talking in Nigerian accent about 10 years ago.

00:48:26.440 If we must, then I think we could do worse, perhaps, than Kenny Badenov. 0.57

00:48:32.280 Yeah, if we can have an anchor baby as a leader,

00:48:34.800 at least have a based one, mildly based one, even if it is performative.

00:48:38.580 Exactly. If we must be ruled by a foreigner, 0.99

00:48:41.180 then at least it could be a based one that's quite sort of funky. 1.00

00:48:45.100 She's very short 1.00

00:48:49.140 She's very short 0.95

00:48:50.080 She's tiny 1.00

00:48:53.220 Very big bottom 1.00

00:48:55.280 That's a good or bad thing

00:49:00.700 In terms of prime ministerial qualities

00:49:02.640 As I understand it 1.00

00:49:04.340 Fat bottom girls make the world go round 1.00

00:49:06.420 Don't they? 1.00

00:49:07.140 That's what I heard on the grapevine

00:49:08.560 That's a Queen song by the way

00:49:13.680 If anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about

00:49:14.740 Okay, this little story

00:49:16.600 Southport murderer moved to Broadmoor

00:49:19.060 So that guy

00:49:20.580 That Axel, whatever his bloody surname was

00:49:23.140 The Welsh choir boy 0.90

00:49:25.500 Who turns out to be 1.00

00:49:26.740 Just a sub-Saharan African 1.00

00:49:28.340 Monster 1.00

00:49:29.720 They say it's not safe for him to stay in Belmarsh

00:49:33.140 He's got to go to Broadmoor

00:49:35.180 And what you said earlier 0.99

00:49:36.960 He's a mental 0.99

00:49:38.860 It's not safe because he's crazy 1.00

00:49:40.860 Yeah, apparently

00:49:42.680 It's just not safe for him

00:49:44.740 to not be in Broadmoor and which is a secure hospital which and another thing is much it's a

00:49:53.400 more pleasant environment for the inmate actually much more pleasant much less dangerous as well

00:49:59.320 and just one thing we talked earlier about how much it costs to keep a fella in the clink yeah

00:50:05.940 it did cost something like 50 grand a year to keep him or anyone in Belmarsh and it costs more like

00:50:11.860 300 grand a year to keep them in broadmore well that's outrageous isn't it that's that's

00:50:17.780 right i think that the we should make rwanda pay for that yeah we we give we we give aid we

00:50:24.100 give government aid we give third world aid to rwanda so i think we just reduce it by how much

00:50:31.140 it costs us to keep him in prison because he's 19 years old sentenced to them a minimum of like 51

00:50:37.300 or 52 years he could live for another 50 60 years that's i mean what's your feelings on the death

00:50:46.020 penalty ed i assume you're very very pro death penalty wouldn't you put this person to death

00:50:52.600 in all honesty in all seriousness it goes it goes without saying that i'm in favor of the death

00:50:58.320 penalty uh the question shouldn't be should the person be executed the question should be by what

00:51:04.400 method um that's the question intelligent question right so obviously hanging would be for

00:51:11.840 for for minor relatively minor crimes like hanging's too good for a man hanging's too good for

00:51:17.340 him nail him up that's what i say nail him up yeah yeah yeah but we get with hanging drawing

00:51:23.280 and corporating for the really really serious things or burning for um for women um and yeah

00:51:29.480 i think that's that's that's uh that's that's entirely reasonable and i don't see how anybody

00:51:33.720 could even consider arguing with us in his law because oh well the the this person was innocent

00:51:40.640 and he was hanged yeah yeah he was but normally they're a bit dodgy aren't they these people that

00:51:47.060 are that are wrongly executed they're probably they've usually done something where they're a

00:51:51.920 bit dodgy the only problem is that i think that lucy let me might be innocent um and they presumably

00:51:58.580 Would have hanged her

00:51:59.620 So that's where there is some

00:52:02.240 Like in all honesty

00:52:03.540 In all seriousness

00:52:05.100 There is actually some concern

00:52:06.860 So you have to have

00:52:08.200 But then that isn't

00:52:09.420 There's no

00:52:09.940 I mean if you think about it

00:52:11.040 There's no real evidence

00:52:12.040 That she's guilty is there

00:52:13.040 It's just circumstantial

00:52:14.140 So that wouldn't be good enough

00:52:16.100 We would want witnesses

00:52:18.060 We would want 0.93

00:52:18.780 With Rudicabana

00:52:20.140 We would want witnesses

00:52:21.200 But proper proof

00:52:22.320 Beyond doubt

00:52:23.480 Or DNA proof

00:52:24.580 I mean for me

00:52:25.620 I am pro-death penalty

00:52:26.660 But even I

00:52:27.580 Would

00:52:28.280 in all honesty in all seriousness i would reserve it for cases where there's no doubt it's not that

00:52:33.940 there's a reasonable doubt but that there's no doubt that there's um very very clear camera or

00:52:40.000 eyewitness testimony and probably would want slam dunk dna billions to one that it's not your dna

00:52:46.880 type evidence i would want there to be no doubt yeah but in those cases in those cases then yeah

00:52:53.420 Now, for example, there was a case in Scotland recently

00:52:56.700 of a guy who killed an academic at the University of Aberdeen

00:53:00.800 and he killed his wife, supposedly, in the early 70s or mid-70s

00:53:06.780 and then eventually, due to advances in DNA and things like that,

00:53:10.660 then quite recently he was put on trial for it and found guilty

00:53:15.160 and sent to prison.

00:53:16.800 But as far as I could see in that case, there was quite a lot of doubt.

00:53:19.740 it was it was not a slam dunk case at all that he had that he had he had killed her so i um i

00:53:27.280 yeah it would be it would i want witnesses i've what proper that there's even dna evidence i don't

00:53:33.140 know but um but but in that case there was not dna evidence that he killed her there was dna

00:53:39.480 evidence that was circumstantial i you know your dna was on her was on her clothes or something

00:53:45.560 like that well why was it there but there was there wasn't actually proof that he really killed

00:53:50.160 her right okay let's quickly move on we're getting towards the well so if you're nearly

00:53:55.360 now let's uh quickly go through this oh andy burnham's and it is number 10 north there's

00:54:00.660 some a place called heron house just a building in the middle of manchester that's his new that's

00:54:06.440 his his new number 10 north do you think that's good in any way or is that just pure gimmick to

00:54:11.160 you what do you think about it it's gimmick oh come on it's oh we're going to be in the north

00:54:15.980 we're going to be a bit different we're not going to have a lectern and we do our speech in front

00:54:19.920 of downing street because we're so laid back and cool and funky and and you know it's oh we're

00:54:26.780 going to be a bit different because a lot of people are working from home these days and so

00:54:30.660 i'm going to be like them and no it's just a gimmick god's sake yeah yeah look how laid back

00:54:36.400 is he's holding a pint there he's well laid back look there's another on the other hand though do

00:54:42.120 do we do we want the prime minister on the we talk about oh you know you want the prime minister to

00:54:47.480 be intelligent and and skilled and hard working and a brilliant speaker and whatever and so

00:54:52.260 well he's not representative of the people but people go on about oh we want people we want

00:54:56.740 people to be representative of the people you know it's a problem that they've been to a posh

00:54:59.840 university or it's a problem that they've been to private school or whatever we want to be

00:55:03.140 representative so if you do then surely you want a prime minister that works from home

00:55:07.660 gets up at about 11 in the morning well sorry gets up at about nine in the morning tunes in

00:55:14.120 to make it look like he's working goes back to bed right gets up at 11 in the morning

00:55:21.100 starts does a bit of work in his pants you know has it has it has it has a few wank breaks um

00:55:28.820 you know what works from home easy this is supposed to be child friendly ed come on

00:55:32.940 oh sorry um um okay pleasure sorry about it it's all right sorry i didn't know it's going to be

00:55:40.780 child friendly i would i wouldn't have thought there would be children watching your show at

00:55:44.140 any time in the morning but um but but um i apologize living in finland i'm used to the

00:55:50.840 fact that i get up i get up at like nine and i put tv on and family guys on and kids could watch

00:55:56.100 that but of course they think to themselves well the kids won't be able to understand it

00:55:59.800 so we'll just put it on

00:56:01.380 because people don't understand English 0.79

00:56:03.460 so do that

00:56:06.020 laid back and whatever

00:56:07.340 and these cornflakes 1.00

00:56:08.720 that's a lot of English people these days

00:56:12.080 they work from home

00:56:13.360 which is basically an excuse for being

00:56:16.280 lazy, I know I should know I work from home

00:56:18.240 so

00:56:19.420 maybe that's a good thing

00:56:23.260 I don't know

00:56:23.780 a lot of people do that

00:56:26.340 he certainly is laid back

00:56:28.260 normal working class guy look at this one look burnham my nights out at the hacienda anyone who's

00:56:34.200 not old enough or maybe foreign might not know the hacienda was a very very famous really hip

00:56:38.340 nightclub in manchester hacienda and burnham's saying that he used to go there because he's a

00:56:47.180 normal normal fella with okay all right they're the front pages for one day the increasingly

00:56:54.340 absurd front pages let's have a look at our poll harry can you bring up the poll for me

00:56:58.200 What did we ask you today? Oh, I asked you about a relatively serious thing, over 1,000 votes. I asked you, will Trump need to put boots on the ground in Iran in order to win? That's what I asked. And the ires have it. 72% of the Glorious Band of Chosen for You say yes. Not an insignificant 28% say no. They think it can be done just with an air campaign, I assume.

00:57:20.560 what do you think ed is this iranian regime ever going to crumble and bend the knee and just do

00:57:27.340 exactly what the state department and israel want or is that just never gonna happen without boots

00:57:34.140 on the ground and an actual 2003 iraq style regime change what do you think i think they are

00:57:40.400 obviously they are religious fanatics the people that are in charge and because they are religious

00:57:45.040 fanatics then it is it is very unlikely that they will willingly it's like taliban it's it's very

00:57:50.320 it's very unlikely that they will willingly uh or that they will with any ease um give up power

00:57:56.640 because they're religious fanatics so they will fight to the to the absolute end confident that

00:58:00.860 allah will um will support them and will guide them and all that kind of thing they're actually

00:58:05.020 happy to be martyred yeah so i think i think that they that they will fight to the very very end and

00:58:11.720 And so I think that, therefore, it would make sense to just put boots on the ground.

00:58:16.640 And it's such a shame. Iran is this historically highly significant country, you know, Persepolis and whatever.

00:58:22.440 And frankly, it does have very, very good looking women who are the sort of exact balance between difference and sameness. 1.00

00:58:30.900 So it's a shame. So I think I think that it's in our interest. 0.92

00:58:36.220 And I'm sure it's in our interest to just go in and just, if you're going to take out Iraq, then surely you should go in and just take out Iran. 0.98

00:58:47.500 So with that said, what do you think then of the fact that the White House, the State Department and the Pentagon all have said and repeatedly say, and don't seem to be budging on, the policy of that they have no appetite for boots on the ground? 0.91

00:59:04.160 What then? How do you square that circle there?

00:59:06.220 yeah you can't you don't um they don't have any appetite for bits on the ground because trump

00:59:11.100 has said that we don't want to get involved with foreign wars and all this kind of thing

00:59:14.720 but it's it's very very important that the west has enough oil and and so to our standards of

00:59:20.960 living that oil is a reasonable price it's very very very very important yeah and nothing can

00:59:28.300 function without oil nothing it would be finished without oil well so talking of which just say uh

00:59:35.240 we sometimes check in with the live price of oil right now brent is just over a hundred dollars

00:59:39.840 that psychological barrier of a hundred dollars west texas uh uh 91 and a half dollars so it's

00:59:46.100 creeping up it's getting back up there sorry ed i spoke over you a bit there carry on no no i think

00:59:50.520 i think it would be it's completely reasonable and entirely sensible real politic to invade the

00:59:56.180 country and install um i think there's a lot of there's a lot of rebellions going on in iran as

01:00:02.660 i understand it there's a lot of people have had enough uh standards of living have gone down

01:00:06.820 people are very very unhappy uh there's terrible inflation the appalling prices of everything

01:00:11.800 people are very very very unhappy in iran so i think that it's it's it's on the it's on the

01:00:17.240 brink anywhere so i think that we it's in our interest as the west to push it over the brink

01:00:22.780 and and stabilize like as we did with venezuela or as trump did with venezuela

01:00:28.780 We need to stabilise and control our sources of oil

01:00:32.280 If you was chairman of the Joint Chief of Suffolk

01:00:36.100 If you was a four star over at the Pentagon

01:00:38.400 Would you be telling Mr Hegseth and Mr Trump

01:00:41.100 Pull the trigger on this thing 0.96

01:00:43.420 Let's go, let's unleash the big red one 1.00

01:00:45.280 Let's drop all the airborne into Iran 0.97

01:00:50.040 Let's mass tank divisions in the Zagros Mountains 0.96

01:00:55.720 And race towards Tehran

01:00:57.340 would you would you be advising that uh well i wouldn't i i i'd have a lot more knowledge than

01:01:04.540 i ed dutton have about the complicated dynamics of invading iran i'm sure it's very very difficult

01:01:10.040 and annoying it involves mountains and god knows what but but um yeah i think i think it's getting

01:01:15.300 to a point where it becomes reasonable to somehow remove that regime and um and help them towards

01:01:23.920 a more friendly one okay okay all right let's do on this day in history i quite like doing that bit

01:01:29.960 everyone else seems to doesn't mind me doing that bit i think it's interesting if you don't mind

01:01:33.260 staying with me ed it's up to you those if you control cool all right so on this day down through

01:01:37.820 the centuries what happened of an 8 july the 24th on this day in 1534 french explorer jacques cartier

01:01:42.760 claims for france the islands around guespe i think that's how you pronounce it guess pay

01:01:47.440 By erecting a 30 foot cross

01:01:50.340 At some particular hill 1.00

01:01:52.400 So the French 0.98

01:01:54.840 First claiming Canada 0.74

01:01:57.360 During the 16th century

01:01:58.700 Also on this day in 1567

01:02:01.640 Mary Queen of Scots is forced to abdicate

01:02:03.940 Her one year old son becomes

01:02:05.860 James VI of Scotland

01:02:07.560 Who as we know goes on to become

01:02:09.460 James I of England

01:02:10.900 That I can talk about because I've got a sub chapter

01:02:13.860 On her in my forthcoming book

01:02:15.440 That's coming out next month

01:02:16.460 on women oh tell us about it tell us about your book yeah so the book will probably be called

01:02:20.340 borderline um borderline genius borderline insane and it um understanding borderline

01:02:27.040 personality disorder and how women with it have um have influenced history and it looks at how

01:02:32.860 basically women that are highly significant tend to have borderline personality disorder which is

01:02:37.620 marked by extreme moods problems with anger identity disturbance self-harm um uh theory

01:02:45.860 of abandonment uh depression and other disease various various traits and um i argued that well

01:02:52.760 i looked at the most eminent women and i found that more than half of them had the traits

01:02:57.660 and then i looked at queen's regnant because i argue because often if their fathers are narcissists

01:03:03.240 for example or psychopaths then this expresses in women as borderline personality and so you'd

01:03:08.640 expect these queens regnant to be like that and that's what i found and she was the of the queen's 0.99

01:03:13.900 that we've had in britain uh that were absolute monarchs i that were actually in charge um she

01:03:19.980 had the most she was the most extreme case i mean she's the most extraordinary woman um for example 1.00

01:03:26.620 um someone raped her and so then she married him right or she had her husband assassinated 0.98

01:03:35.400 and then that person that killed her husband then took her away abducted her and raped her 0.99

01:03:39.540 and then she got married. 0.62

01:03:41.100 Was it Bothwell, was it?

01:03:42.020 Yeah. 1.00

01:03:43.080 So it's absolutely a absolutely crazy woman. 1.00

01:03:49.420 She had all of the traits of BPD, as far as I could see. 0.81

01:03:53.460 And even that case of the son,

01:03:56.660 it was suspected that it wasn't even the father's son.

01:04:01.480 It was suspected that it was the son of her Italian secretary.

01:04:05.660 She was having an affair with her Italian secretary.

01:04:08.200 and then her first husband

01:04:09.960 who his name escapes me at the moment

01:04:12.600 had

01:04:13.740 the Italian secretary murdered in front

01:04:16.740 of him, in front of her

01:04:17.980 and then

01:04:20.040 and then 0.86

01:04:20.620 she then had him murdered 0.75

01:04:24.780 by this

01:04:26.120 I think it was this Bothwell guy

01:04:27.700 and

01:04:29.560 absolutely and so we don't even

01:04:32.460 can we even be sure that

01:04:34.240 James I was a father

01:04:36.280 the sixth was his father's son

01:04:38.040 We know it was her child

01:04:40.100 That's very interesting

01:04:41.480 She led an extraordinary life

01:04:43.720 Didn't she? I will get up to it soon

01:04:45.200 On Epochs, my history theme show

01:04:46.820 Behind the table at loadseaters.com

01:04:48.200 Because I'm up to Edward VI

01:04:49.880 So there will probably only be a few more

01:04:51.720 10, 12, 15 episodes

01:04:54.520 Before I get up to Mary Queen's

01:04:55.660 Because a remarkable life

01:04:57.260 And as you say, a remarkable woman 1.00

01:04:58.780 Crazy, she was six foot tall 1.00

01:05:02.200 Leggy 1.00

01:05:04.320 Really tall for that time period

01:05:07.480 particularly for a woman um okay on this day in 1832 benjamin bonneville leads the first wagon

01:05:14.180 train across the rocky mountains through wyoming's south pass i always find it remarkable how late

01:05:20.020 it was in history in the 19th century that america expands out west i always find that

01:05:26.480 remarkable i always i always do that it is basically the 19th century when that happens

01:05:31.460 Mainly the second half of the 19th century

01:05:34.400 Even

01:05:34.740 The first ever wagon train

01:05:38.060 Through Wyoming

01:05:39.300 1832

01:05:40.760 You could reasonably expect that to have happened

01:05:43.700 In the 16th or 17th century

01:05:45.900 But anyway

01:05:47.520 I find that remarkable

01:05:49.200 Indian Territory

01:05:50.740 I presume that's why

01:05:51.920 Because you have the Bonneville Salt Flats

01:05:54.060 That's in Utah

01:05:55.360 It must be named after him

01:05:57.860 Which is the massive area

01:06:00.120 where you can just drive a car really fast.

01:06:02.660 I've been to those salt flats, actually.

01:06:05.280 Interesting, yeah.

01:06:06.180 I mean, Wyoming isn't very close to Utah,

01:06:08.220 so there's salt flats in Nevada as well.

01:06:10.540 Anyway, okay, on this day in 1911,

01:06:13.460 American explorer Hiram Bingham

01:06:15.600 rediscovers Machu Picchu,

01:06:17.940 the lost city of the Incas.

01:06:19.380 I don't know if you're familiar much with that story,

01:06:21.020 but that's something out of a movie.

01:06:23.280 He's literally sort of hacking his way through the forest

01:06:26.420 and sort of through the canopy or through some bushes,

01:06:28.900 It's just like, oh, oh, there is an actual ancient lost city here in the mountains.

01:06:35.360 It's a very cinematic scene.

01:06:36.960 How quickly, if you don't, if buildings aren't maintained, how quickly they become.

01:06:42.160 Like if you, what's that car plant in Detroit?

01:06:44.580 I went there a few years ago and it's not been touched.

01:06:48.180 It's been left alone since the late 50s and no one's been, it's falling down.

01:06:52.700 All the glass has fallen out the windows and smashed.

01:06:55.040 There's trees growing in the middle, like literally through the building.

01:06:58.900 it is amazing how quickly if you don't if you don't maintain it it just becomes it just turns

01:07:03.660 back into earth comes over it grass grows on it it just becomes a what he found it's remarkable

01:07:08.680 isn't it i once saw a very what i thought was a very very interesting documentary about exactly

01:07:13.000 that how long if humans just disappeared how long would it take before any any evidence that we ever

01:07:19.380 existed completely disappeared and i said with a few exceptions like the pyramids which would take

01:07:26.160 a very very very long time for wind erosion to completely remove them other than a few examples

01:07:33.120 like that um it would only be a few centuries even still girded buildings would after a few

01:07:39.140 centuries would collapse and fall down and uh all sorts of erosion it wouldn't it wouldn't be a

01:07:45.280 couple of thousand years at most and nearly all the evidence that humans ever existed would be

01:07:50.000 a book i've got coming out next year called the reign of dust which is on ancient uh high

01:07:55.920 forgotten civilizations

01:07:57.300 and I looked at this right at the

01:07:59.420 beginning but yeah after a thousand years

01:08:02.060 everything would have fallen down

01:08:04.000 and be covered over by grass and whatever

01:08:06.000 and it makes it like the base of the

01:08:08.240 of the Eiffel Tower

01:08:10.000 would maybe still be standing

01:08:11.440 and the Hoover Dam

01:08:13.840 and a few other things

01:08:15.080 everything else would be gone and even the pyramids

01:08:18.020 they wouldn't necessarily fall down but they'd become

01:08:19.920 covered in sand

01:08:20.780 which they were substantially when

01:08:23.960 When Napoleon went to them

01:08:25.660 They weren't maintained

01:08:26.500 And so there was

01:08:27.120 Half of them were just

01:08:28.280 They erupted in just sand

01:08:29.800 Yeah I find that interesting

01:08:32.440 On this day 1943

01:08:34.420 The RAF begins bombing Hamburg

01:08:37.560 Until the 3rd of August

01:08:38.720 Creating a firestorm

01:08:39.720 In Kinning

01:08:40.140 42,600 people

01:08:41.900 During Operation

01:08:42.840 Gomora

01:08:44.460 Not much of an opinion

01:08:48.580 On the firebombing of Hamburg

01:08:49.980 In 1943

01:08:50.740 Was this

01:08:52.320 Bomber Harris

01:08:53.980 It would have been, yes.

01:08:54.700 It was pretty nasty, wasn't it?

01:08:56.960 There's another book that I forget the name of it

01:08:58.860 that I saw, you know, the Old Speak bookshop

01:09:01.160 that sells places in Suffolk?

01:09:03.640 Yeah, they're very good.

01:09:04.440 Do you patronise them?

01:09:05.720 The lady that runs that put up a photo of some book

01:09:09.560 about what was done to Germany when it was liberated 0.98

01:09:13.840 and just the atrocities, like crucifying people

01:09:17.900 and just, but the Russians did. 0.97

01:09:19.880 Just godless. 0.99

01:09:22.120 Yeah, I mean, it was... 0.98

01:09:23.500 Absolute war crime 0.94

01:09:25.420 Basically 0.95

01:09:26.680 Bomber House's policy was let's just kill lots and lots of civilians 0.99

01:09:29.700 And then they'll surrender 0.99

01:09:31.580 That was his policy

01:09:32.880 Yeah 0.59

01:09:34.220 Area bombing they would call it 0.77

01:09:37.100 Saturation bombing

01:09:39.000 Yeah I mean

01:09:41.740 43

01:09:42.460 The date of that is interesting to me

01:09:45.060 I mean when you look at the firebombing

01:09:47.700 Of Dresden it was so late

01:09:49.620 In the war very very very late in the war

01:09:51.620 wasn't it in the early months of 45 it was right near the end seems to me utterly completely and

01:09:57.900 utterly unnecessary but um they destroyed country which was a beautiful historical town

01:10:05.260 and so we had to destroy dresden to just get our own back i have i have heard that hamburg before it

01:10:12.020 was almost wiped off the map in 43 was a beautiful beautiful sort of medieval city it was like

01:10:19.420 largely at the center of it was one of those examples of something straight from the middle

01:10:24.540 ages genuine example of sort of a medieval town basically um but now of course gone okay and the

01:10:32.300 last fact right there was the one we already talked about where um a bunch of shill scientists

01:10:36.400 try and peddle the liar the climate change is 99 the fault of uh humans okay all right well

01:10:44.720 thank you very much for your time ed i appreciate it if you've got anything else you want to let

01:10:49.260 people know about or where they can watch you and uh and buy your many many books

01:10:55.180 yes well there's the jolly heretic which is my youtube and substack and so if you like what i

01:11:01.420 do you can help me the cast of a kind of beer month that i've got a new film on moldova which

01:11:05.980 is um people seem to quite like uh sort of neo-byzantium where we might flee to as as the

01:11:11.760 chaos happens um unfolds and gets worse and then yeah i've got various books that are available on

01:11:18.100 amazon um but i've got a new one which i'm going to be coming out next month which is on borderline

01:11:22.440 personality disorder and the influence of women with it on history and on the modern day so um

01:11:28.520 look out for that excellent well thank you very much sir hopefully it's not too long before i 0.99

01:11:33.240 speak to you again and once again thank you for your time really appreciate it pleasure bye bye

01:11:38.160 bye there you go professor ed dutton there the good professor always a brilliant guest he always

01:11:45.120 knows what he's talking about got some great takes of course he has all right should we do

01:11:50.620 our rumble rants and super chats and then that should be the show it's already knocking on

01:11:55.420 towards quarter past nine okay no not in any massive rush though not on the podcast today

01:12:00.180 or anything all right let me do this with my mic boom so i can see the left hand side of my screen

01:12:03.580 where the rumble rants are do you think global church history is going to be in a number one

01:12:07.620 what do you reckon is it going to be a good day let's have a look have a look yes he is reigning

01:12:13.140 defending and stew the champ of rumble rants global church history says today in 1969 apollo

01:12:22.260 11 safely landed in the pacific ocean that's cool i believe in the moon landings i do have

01:12:28.660 some questions and reservations about about apollo 11 specifically or apollo 9 10 and 11.

01:12:36.180 i do think men landed on the moon in my opinion like apollo like apollo 14 15 16 17 it's just

01:12:46.560 it's just definitely a real it's just that they just definitely did do you have a slight

01:12:51.680 reservation about apollo 11 haven't got time to go into it here though all right um you have

01:12:57.820 global church history also said uh in on this day in 2019 uh u.s immigrant of uh russo-turkish

01:13:05.680 descent Boris Johnson became Prime Minister. Alexander Johnson. His first name is Alex.

01:13:15.260 And his middle name is Boris. Bo is my middle name. He called him US Immigrant of Russo-Turkish

01:13:23.780 dissent. Yeah. I would have Boris Johnson's name at the top of my list of people to face

01:13:35.060 the consequences of their crimes against the people in the nation. Alexander Boris Johnson.

01:13:43.260 Okay. Pigdog5150 says, great to see and hear Ed on the Real BBC, Bo's Breakfast Club,

01:13:49.120 Hashtag

01:13:49.540 It's great isn't it

01:13:51.520 It's great

01:13:51.940 There's people that

01:13:53.960 They were born to be a talking head

01:13:55.960 Right

01:13:56.420 Just

01:13:57.520 Just give them a take

01:13:59.420 And let them riff off of it

01:14:02.020 Some people are almost born to do that

01:14:04.180 I feel like Professor Ed Dunn

01:14:06.480 One of those people

01:14:07.040 Say

01:14:07.540 I enjoy Ed's

01:14:09.140 Man on the street work very much

01:14:11.160 Keep up the good work Ed

01:14:12.500 Yeah

01:14:14.500 When he goes out into the public

01:14:15.700 Does Fox Populi stuff

01:14:16.840 Very good

01:14:17.680 Shows you sort of the quality

01:14:20.640 Of Ed Datton

01:14:23.040 When you put him alongside

01:14:24.640 A normal random person

01:14:26.680 It's just chalk and cheese isn't it

01:14:28.420 Night and day

01:14:28.900 Okay Fallen Firebird

01:14:33.220 Money is only a fraction

01:14:37.820 Of pronatal policy

01:14:39.920 The main problem is a spiritual and moral inversion 1.00

01:14:42.880 In primarily women

01:14:44.700 But men as well 1.00

01:14:45.840 That cares nothing for our people's future 0.94

01:14:49.380 West side problem

01:14:50.920 You're not wrong 0.91

01:14:52.700 You're not wrong

01:14:53.660 It's deeper than just the government saying

01:14:56.240 We'll give you quite a good deal

01:14:58.340 On loans for a mortgage

01:15:02.700 If you have more kids

01:15:03.820 And suddenly people are like

01:15:04.980 Yeah let's just have six kids

01:15:06.260 Yeah it's more than that isn't it

01:15:08.240 You're right

01:15:08.780 A spiritual and moral inversion

01:15:12.640 Again down through the centuries

01:15:15.460 The trend is very interesting to see

01:15:18.320 That when people think that their country

01:15:20.440 Their nation, their people, their civilisation

01:15:22.360 Is in decline

01:15:24.060 That it's

01:15:26.520 It would be the wrong thing to do

01:15:28.580 To bring a child into this horrible world

01:15:31.020 You've got no hope

01:15:32.840 And that you see a massive decline in

01:15:37.560 Natalism

01:15:38.900 Very very concerning to see it playing out

01:15:44.320 In our world today

01:15:45.360 in the west in england very concerning okay the last one around today is from matthew c how are

01:15:51.920 you sir is one of the super fans met him at the live show great guy matt you say

01:15:56.580 ed is referring to hellstorm the book on germany in 1944 to 47 truly horrifying currently reading

01:16:05.880 it alongside like the roman is that a book called like the roman okay hellstorm there you go yeah

01:16:12.760 It's pretty well documented

01:16:14.260 It's more in the east really

01:16:16.260 More in Pomerania 0.52

01:16:17.740 More in East Germany

01:16:19.820 What became East Germany

01:16:20.900 The war crimes and

01:16:23.900 Rapes

01:16:24.980 The Soviets did against the Germans 0.98

01:16:28.060 Many many most of them

01:16:29.820 Completely innocent civilians 0.76

01:16:30.940 Terrible terrible thing 0.99

01:16:35.800 Absolutely horrific

01:16:38.520 A lot of them didn't even ever vote for the NSDAP 0.79

01:16:43.960 Were never in favour of Mr Hitler's regime from day one

01:16:47.660 Yeah, horrible, horrible thing that most histories just skate over 0.84

01:16:56.840 Not really, you know, you read a book by Andrew Roberts or something

01:17:00.740 Not going to get much detail about that

01:17:03.100 His paymasters and publishers don't want him to talk about that

01:17:08.520 The Lord Roberts

01:17:10.760 Okay, shall we have a look

01:17:14.080 At our YouTube super chat

01:17:16.220 Shall we

01:17:16.620 If you can bring that up for me Harry

01:17:19.740 I can't do that

01:17:20.760 Can you make that happen

01:17:23.180 There you go, alright, lovely, thank you

01:17:25.240 Alright, we've only got half a dozen

01:17:27.300 I'll say this morning

01:17:27.900 Feeling Clumsy

01:17:32.540 6968

01:17:33.820 Says

01:17:34.800 Good to hear yesterday

01:17:36.680 say that you are a butlerian warrior. AI can however be used to limit bureaucracy. You

01:17:46.620 will be replaced by the Bobot though. Butlerian warrior, is that like from Dune? Is that what 1.00

01:17:56.320 that is, a reference to the butlerian jihad? Yeah, I don't trust it. In fact, that was

01:18:02.980 a story we didn't get to today, but it's in the news

01:18:05.060 today, the news cycle today, that

01:18:06.760 Kemi Badenoch, well there was more stories that

01:18:08.840 loads and loads of AI testing has

01:18:10.820 gone rogue and broken out of its sort of

01:18:12.780 containment and tried to hack loads of things

01:18:14.800 on the open internet, that that's actually happened

01:18:16.800 loads, it wasn't just this one time

01:18:18.700 or that

01:18:20.880 they nearly all tried to do it and it's

01:18:22.900 a worry, and Kemi Badenoch said

01:18:24.560 she thought that AI, that unchecked

01:18:27.180 uncontrolled, unregulated AI

01:18:28.720 development was a clear and

01:18:30.880 present danger

01:18:31.580 that's her words exactly her words clear and present danger and we and now i'm paraphrasing

01:18:38.780 that we you know we'll be sleepwalking into something nightmarish if we're not careful

01:18:42.200 yeah that's my feeling okay calzetti says is it an eamon holmes joke where was eamon holmes on

01:18:53.840 september the 11th 2001 curious oh it's getting dark the eamon holmes jokes are getting very very

01:18:59.520 dark

01:18:59.980 But where was he?

01:19:08.340 Where was he?

01:19:09.840 Probably do just need to

01:19:11.080 tick him off the list

01:19:12.840 Poor old Eamon Holmes

01:19:17.540 Do I have to say it again

01:19:21.280 just in case anyone doesn't know what the hell we're talking about

01:19:23.420 I've probably got to

01:19:25.700 in case there's new people watching

01:19:27.400 saying

01:19:27.740 Did Bo and the Lotus

01:19:29.900 Just accuse Eamon Holmes

01:19:31.500 Of being involved in 9-11

01:19:32.760 It's a very dark

01:19:35.460 Very bad taste joke

01:19:36.460 I once accidentally

01:19:38.360 Genuinely

01:19:39.320 In good faith

01:19:40.800 Said Eamon Holmes

01:19:43.160 When I was supposed to say

01:19:44.900 Hugh Edwards

01:19:46.020 I was talking about Hugh Edwards

01:19:47.340 My mind was thinking Hugh Edwards

01:19:49.160 I thought I heard myself say Hugh Edwards

01:19:51.740 But my mouth actually said Eamon Holmes

01:19:55.080 A completely different person

01:19:57.140 Effectively accused Eamon Holmes

01:19:59.100 Of doing some bad crimes

01:20:00.920 Which he is of course

01:20:02.420 100% innocent of

01:20:04.220 It's now a running joke

01:20:06.480 In my super chats

01:20:11.380 And normal chat

01:20:14.960 To accuse Eamon Holmes

01:20:16.980 Of doing things, despicable crimes

01:20:18.640 Yeah it's bad taste

01:20:20.840 Yeah

01:20:21.100 Poor old Eamon Holmes

01:20:23.900 In all seriousness I hope he's okay

01:20:26.180 Because I know he's had some health issues

01:20:28.060 Didn't he have a stroke or a heart attack or something

01:20:29.640 Without any sarcasm

01:20:33.300 Hashtag pray for Eamon

01:20:35.180 Or Eamon Holmes

01:20:38.440 God

01:20:40.180 Emily for Restore says

01:20:42.700 Most wildfires in med 1.00

01:20:45.700 Started by rejected migrants 1.00

01:20:47.840 I can believe that 1.00

01:20:48.900 There's a big wildfire on Arthur's seat

01:20:51.980 Up in Edinburgh the other day

01:20:53.140 Mmm

01:20:53.940 Mmm

01:20:56.180 Might be completely naturally occurring, mightn't it?

01:21:00.340 They do seem to like to set fire to things, don't they? 1.00

01:21:03.720 Disgruntled migrants. 1.00

01:21:05.580 Like churches and cathedrals. 1.00

01:21:08.500 They do seem to like that.

01:21:10.260 There does seem to be a pattern there, doesn't there?

01:21:14.260 Emily for Restore again says,

01:21:16.080 Love Ed's take on the IRGC.

01:21:17.960 Thank you.

01:21:19.820 He was like, let's get them. 1.00

01:21:21.480 Like Scrappy Doon. 1.00

01:21:22.240 Let me at them, let me at them. 0.64

01:21:23.340 I don't think that regime will fold

01:21:27.040 Under any sort of air campaign

01:21:28.780 Any sort of air campaign

01:21:29.880 Even a World War II era

01:21:32.420 Thing, I think they would just hold on 0.57

01:21:35.200 Again, they're sort of

01:21:37.320 Happy to be martyred on some level

01:21:39.460 Or not even on some level, explicitly

01:21:42.420 Okay

01:21:48.420 Brandon Lucas 9732 says

01:21:51.320 And it's the last one today

01:21:52.740 Says

01:21:53.180 Would you consider

01:21:54.080 Would you consider the past relationship 1.00

01:21:56.520 Between the Iron Age Bantu 1.00

01:21:58.240 And the Sand Peoples 1.00

01:21:59.980 Sand Peoples 1.00

01:22:01.820 And other Stone Age societies 1.00

01:22:04.000 That surround them 1.00

01:22:05.360 Colonial 0.99

01:22:06.200 Would I consider that colonial 0.99

01:22:07.500 Probably 1.00

01:22:10.220 I don't know

01:22:11.280 A fantastic amount

01:22:13.460 I've only got broad 0.80

01:22:15.840 Strokes of the brush

01:22:17.120 Knowledge

01:22:17.680 And sort of

01:22:19.320 Sub-Saharan African 0.54

01:22:21.120 Iron Age

01:22:22.020 History

01:22:23.180 but probably yeah probably yeah loads of these people treated each other in a colonial fashion

01:22:31.820 down through the millennia yeah it's pretty normal pretty normal in the sweep of history

01:22:38.780 to have to build empires and have colonies

01:22:43.420 standard across human civilization all right that's the show um it is now 23 minutes past
