The Podcast of the Lotus Eaters - Christmas Pre-Record ｜ Meme Review 2024

00:00:00.000 all right folks so if there's one thing about internet culture that we all know

00:00:04.920 it's that it produces a lot of memes a lot of memes which are of varying quality and exist

00:00:12.000 within different varying spheres of influence as well and i decided to check out the meme game

00:00:19.020 that was 2024 and do a little review uh because we live in a meme because i wanted to start off

00:00:26.400 by pointing out that diversity hire kentanji brown jackson do you remember her diversity

00:00:31.820 hire on the supreme court unfortunately yes devaluing the most important institution in

00:00:36.260 the united states obviously devaluing it she's made her a broadway debut of course she has in 1.00

00:00:43.120 why not why not juliet a queer twist on romeo and juliet so whatever memes produce whatever memes 0.82

00:00:51.380 make fun of or mark or however they reflect the world on us nothing could be as ridiculous as

00:00:57.780 real life because just watch this just i'll play i'm sorry to do this to you though just know i

00:01:04.180 consider you a friend and i respect you so i'm sorry to have to do this female empowerment 1.00

00:01:09.300 i think what i like about it is that i am having a very strongly negative reaction to it

00:01:23.380 like i hate it which makes me think it must be brilliant

00:01:28.340 i'm gonna because it's got copyright music i hate millennials i hate millennial writing you can 0.86

00:01:37.780 you just know that some neurotic anxious millennial wrote that dialogue right where everything's just

00:01:44.520 a little bit over over explicit a little bit nervous in saying it but you're going to say it

00:01:49.860 anyway because you just can't help but splurge everything i want this writing to die 0.90

00:01:53.880 and writing the word like in the dialogue um and this is about just to urinate all over um

00:02:01.480 all over shakespeare's legacy sure yeah doesn't mean anything to them does it doesn't mean anything

00:02:06.920 it it certainly does not but this is about her speed though isn't it this is what she really should be 0.75

00:02:11.720 just just uh we're in the theater kid dictatorship just a vacuous theater kid we've got the theater

00:02:18.440 kids literally infiltrating the supreme court at this point so that's that's a fun one no meme could

00:02:26.280 really top that but i thought i'd look at some of the memes anyway so real life as a meme i'm giving a

00:02:32.520 a zero out of ten in terms of humor because it's just not funny it's just not funny anymore can we stop

00:02:39.880 can things go back to normal no no they can't so i thought i'd take a look at um what the normies looking

00:02:46.120 at what what what do normies find funny when they're scrolling through facebook when they're

00:02:51.240 looking at their uh social media and i've i've got to say it's cancer it's it's absolute cancer like

00:02:58.840 what i'll just scroll this is a rolling stone article 29 best memes and biggest viral moments of 2024

00:03:06.600 rolling stone very prestigious reputable faithful trustworthy publication known for its sense of humor

00:03:13.400 so are you joking because some of those words are correct and others are no i don't completely i

00:03:19.640 mean it is old yeah used to be reputable but is sort of in recent years has revealed itself

00:03:30.600 ridiculously woke sometimes and i think in the 19 i think in 1978 you know they um published in a review

00:03:37.720 of the the queen album jazz you know the one that's got um i think it's don't stop me now on it

00:03:42.120 right um where the reviewer called it a musical fascism what so even going back then there was

00:03:50.360 still a ridiculous publication queen of all bands musical fascists there's no qualitative difference

00:03:57.000 between freddie mercury and an auschwitz guard basically no i think freddie penned erica himself

00:04:03.640 so that's a very interesting little factoid for you all out there so this is the sorts of things that

00:04:10.840 normies are supposedly laughing at which is um is that i i think it's a man in a dress

00:04:19.080 i think i think it's a man in a dress saying megami protect queer art this was from january do you

00:04:23.720 remember this hit meme in january no no thank god uh the willy wonka ai immersive experience is this

00:04:31.640 real this never heard of that either no me neither i mean it's our job to watch the news cycle nearly

00:04:37.320 every day of our lives we miss all of these things miss that and thank god mj from the traitors i

00:04:43.880 remember this one i remember that people were worried about where kate middleton was and there

00:04:47.480 was a lot of conspiracy theories going around about it did you do a piece saying will would

00:04:51.640 blow her head off with a shotgun i what i didn't do anything like that that sounds like a dan segment

00:04:58.440 oh maybe it's dan sorry it's a dance no you're right it was a dance segment of course it was a dance 0.99

00:05:03.000 segment the queen of melrose in march it's going month by month this this woman who looks really

00:05:09.880 sad if if you're watching this right now and recognize any of these memes like what what what

00:05:16.600 are they about what's going on that woman and and you can infer her spouse they're the people that

00:05:24.760 read rolling stone anymore and watch these memes we're talking about yeah just a washed out boomer who

00:05:30.280 are these people i mean i can understand kind of why this popcorn bucket might become a meme because

00:05:35.800 it's a little bit suspicious looking it doesn't look like it was originally designed as a popcorn bucket

00:05:41.880 so i can understand that but i don't see that how many memes that you can get out of this

00:05:46.760 you just kind of look at it and you say that's funny well i understand the word meme yeah the whole

00:05:52.520 point of what's a meme supposed to be a meme the concept originally come up with was it richard

00:05:57.160 dawkins who originally came up with it the idea of a uh a uh an idea that spreads through society

00:06:03.880 like a lot of things like even the word woke it's mostly changed it's definitely changed over time

00:06:08.200 hasn't it yeah i think different people mean different things at different times when they

00:06:11.640 use the word meme but but they're supposed to be funny and they're supposed to be shared around

00:06:16.840 a lot so here's one hawk tour i remember this i never watched it still never seen the original

00:06:21.880 clip thank god um she's uh i've seen the original clip i'm sorry but talk about making a mountain

00:06:27.960 out of a molehill she got a podcast for that i have seen her talk for like a few little twitter

00:06:34.200 clips once or twice you know she's a crypto scammer now well what i gathered within a minute or two

00:06:41.160 of listening to her speak is that she's just a complete mediocrity and i don't mean that in a

00:06:45.960 particularly nasty way she's a completely normal person with nothing of any true value or interest

00:06:50.920 to say so why and again i don't mean that to be unnecessarily nasty yeah i don't but like what

00:06:58.680 i remember this one you think you just fell out of a coconut tree the groipers fell hard for this one

00:07:04.360 kamal harris this was actually a 2023 statement that she made but apparently in the run-up for her

00:07:10.040 uh incredibly successful most successful democratic uh presidential run ever um this this was brought

00:07:17.160 back out it was reheated resurrected from the dead i mean i remember this these this one's okay this was

00:07:26.280 the uh the olympic shooters where i think this was the a like japanese girl is it korean korean girl with 1.00

00:07:34.680 all of the high-tech gear gets first place but she's obviously she's basically like a cyborg with all the 1.00

00:07:39.560 gear that she's got and then random turk gets second place just pulling a pistol and eyeball 1.00

00:07:44.440 and get a bit that was a funny one that was a decent one but most of these are awful what was

00:07:51.800 that about saddam well i mean saddam's always in fashion they're saying he wasn't no saddam hussein

00:07:58.680 hiding it's it's the it's the old graphic of him hiding with the air tube underneath to make sure that

00:08:03.400 he can breathe that one just comes back every so often okay but most of these i've seen mudang 1.00

00:08:09.720 he's just like a little hippo who looks scared at things most of quite cute it's aggressive

00:08:14.440 but yet cute it is cute but again the vast majority awful absolutely awful and then it ends at wicked

00:08:23.000 and it just brings to mind one of my favorite memes of all time scrolling through this uh this

00:08:29.400 this classic clip right here because democracy basically means

00:08:39.960 take your time mate government

00:08:45.960 he's trying to put it politely by the people

00:08:47.960 that's funny i've seen that one before a few times yeah well when does a meme become a vine

00:09:06.280 what you know vines vines are dead aren't aren't vines just tick tocks now

00:09:13.960 yeah when does a vine become a tick tick tock when does a meme transform into a vine become

00:09:19.240 a tick tock i know i'm younger than you but i'm not that much younger than you okay i'm near

00:09:23.800 i'm beginning to near 30 i'm closer to 30 than i am 20.

00:09:27.880 so old man robinson old man robinson here so i cannot answer these questions for you these are

00:09:33.800 just as much a mystery to me as they are to you i think don't me can't isn't it just a meme is

00:09:40.280 basically anything that's shared about a lot and people find funny and tick tocks can start off as

00:09:45.880 just tick tocks and become memes and that was the same as it was for vines and vine spread its own

00:09:50.600 memes and sadly gave us the paul brothers you can have just a still image as a meme as well though

00:09:55.880 right well it's just a yeah yeah just a jpeg for instance as well right for instance wife jack

00:10:04.040 zero out of ten zero out of ten when this was in the cycle when we were even making content about

00:10:10.680 it i just completely ignored it i'm not interested i don't really want to know what it's about or

00:10:16.360 what the i just i just not just could not be less interested i mean the the the discourse around

00:10:22.280 it alone was cancer so and it's not going then what was it what was the deal i'm not going to

00:10:27.000 i'm not going to i'm fine i'm fine i'm fine zero out of ten next meme right okay but my favorite one

00:10:34.120 that still goes around this year as ever is nothing ever happens don't make me tap the sign yeah let's

00:10:40.360 let's let's see what time is it it's nothing ever happens time here he is teaching at a school

00:10:46.760 this is this is one of my favorites just because it's so applicable to everything

00:10:50.520 and it always annoys people because people are desperate for something to happen and let's be

00:10:55.240 honest there are always things happening right but it's always things that make it worse whatever the

00:11:01.640 situation is whatever is going on in the world will become worse and things will then just kind of

00:11:06.920 carry on as normal so mr chud here who presents nothing ever happens is almost always right and you can

00:11:15.800 see here my this is my actual favorite ever use of the of the wife jack mean which is chud wife

00:11:23.320 being asked being asked by her little girl will will anything ever happen no no it will not

00:11:29.240 nothing will ever happen uh well right i was gonna say um i feel like the maybe i'm not getting it on the

00:11:37.800 meta level or the irony or whatever but um i think the absolute opposite is true no everything is always

00:11:44.440 happening everything is always happening i don't mean exactly but the idea that nothing ever happens

00:11:49.400 you couldn't be more wrong though the world is of course it's always in flux in it to to dare to

00:11:56.440 explain the joke for a moment there are a number of different layers of iron i know i do have wrapped

00:12:03.320 back around here i know that's that's all right because uh yeah you may get nuked but guess what

00:12:08.760 nothing ever happened right yeah you would be in fallout and the uh the the narration would be but

00:12:15.000 nothing nothing ever happens james webb has visualized the oldest stars the first stars in the cosmos but

00:12:21.800 nothing ever happens nothing ever happens no and here you can see speaking of james webb and science

00:12:29.640 chud's laws of happening the first law is nothing ever happens the second law is percentage of progress

00:12:34.760 towards a major happening shall always increase closer to but never reach 100 at which point

00:12:39.640 something would happen but by the first law nothing ever happens so these these are funny these are two

00:12:46.680 weak info intervals and as you can see here you always get close but it never happens it's like

00:12:53.960 reaching the speed of light yeah you've got mass you can get very very very close but you'll never

00:12:58.600 actually never actually reach it exactly this graph if to be expanded would expand on into

00:13:04.200 infinity and you'd be able to zoom out and you wouldn't be able to see the difference but you'd

00:13:08.200 see there is if you zoomed in no things happening but the problem is as you've pointed out which is

00:13:16.600 that actually you know like even just recently over the past few weeks quite a lot of things have

00:13:21.560 happened if if we'd had the asada who must go prophecy uh fulfilled again then maybe we could say 0.98

00:13:29.880 that nothing had happened but sadly he is now going to be an eye doctor in moscow again so uh that's

00:13:39.720 that's what asada had happened to him so we must say that on a global scale something has happened

00:13:46.280 and here we can see the child chad that's quite yeah chud chud senior with chud jr holding his

00:13:53.160 his squirrel jack his red squirrel because we're going to reconquista the red squirrels

00:13:58.760 being told his bedtime story that something did finally happen that's full of rome in the background

00:14:04.920 isn't it yes so painting is i'm going to just say nothing ever happens has so many different

00:14:11.000 applications across so many different places and times and situations i give it a 10 out of 10 i think

00:14:18.200 it's hilarious all of these all of these save for maybe one or two normie memes cancer absolute

00:14:27.320 cancer zero out of 10 except for this one it's kind of funny but they've only got a limited shelf life

00:14:32.280 so that's my very limited meme review for this year i hope you enjoyed it folks post your favorite
