00:00:00.280 Hi everybody, this is Scott Saad. I wanted to take a minute or two today to link this
00:00:08.960 gentleman right here, unbelievable book by the way, a biography on Conrad Lawrence, 1976
00:00:16.320 biography, so I think it now constitutes an antiquarian book. He won the Nobel Prize in
00:00:25.780 1973 with two other human ethologists, and I'm going to link a principle from
00:00:33.700 ethology, which I'll explain in a second, to the end of the acceptance speech of, let me look at her
00:00:43.140 name, I didn't know who she was until I saw it all over X, Tayana Taylor, Wynn's Best Supporting
00:00:50.240 Female Actor, the motion of motion picture, 83rd annual Golden Globes, so she goes around sort of
00:00:57.200 being hysteric and crying and so on, and then at the end, to all my brown sisters and brown girls and
00:01:05.360 we belong in any room we come into and our light shines and so on, as though until she came along
00:01:13.760 in 2026, there were no brown people that had ever been noticed in Hollywood. I've never seen one,
00:01:23.840 certainly in music you never see one, and I can't wait until the day that hopefully some black guy
00:01:30.640 breaks through the NBA, you know, they need to be seen, and so you might say, well, how are you going
00:01:36.880 to link the ending of her speech to Conrad Lawrence? So let me tell you about Conrad Lawrence. Conrad
00:01:45.520 Lawrence was one of the pioneers of the field of ethology. Ethology is the study of instinctual
00:01:55.600 patterns of behaviors, right? And so what are the evolutionary roots of certain
00:02:02.160 instincts? And so the classic example would be imprinting, where a duckling hatches,
00:02:14.400 and it has an inbuilt instinctual mechanism that basically says, whomever you see first move when you
00:02:24.960 come out of your eggshell, that has to be mommy. Now in 99.9% of the times, that's going to be the
00:02:32.560 actual female duck, who's going to be the mother, and then the ducklings will follow her. But we can
00:02:38.400 remove that mother duck and replace her with Dr. Lawrence, and then all the ducklings will follow
00:02:48.240 him, or we could replace him by a golden retriever, and then he or she will become mommy duck.
00:02:55.840 And this in ethology is called a fixed action pattern that is released. So once there is the
00:03:03.200 mechanism that releases that fixed action pattern, then that behavior has to see its release all the
00:03:12.720 way to the end. Hence, it's a fixed action pattern. You just need to release it, and off we go.
00:03:17.760 Well, I want to now link that to this inability to deviate from standing up, as this woman did,
00:03:29.360 and engaging in what I would call a woke fixed action pattern. I need to always live in a narrative,
00:03:37.360 I'm speaking as her now, where black women, sisters of color, are oppressed in the United States. And so
00:03:45.840 even if I get information that seems contrary to it, it can't be. It's a fixed action pattern. I just
00:03:54.640 need to have that behavior released. And in this case, the way I have the behavior released, paradoxically,
00:04:03.680 is simply grant me an award, and off I go with my brown and black sisters of color.
00:04:11.520 Right? So I can't transcend that. My inbuilt victimology narrative is equivalent
00:04:22.560 to imprinting. It has to be released. There you have it. Check out this book, by the way,
00:04:29.360 Conrad Lawrence. He was something else. Cheers, everybody.
00:04:32.320 This book.
