00:01:55.700 was hunted down by a Venezuelan gang member who stalked her and then tried to rape her and ended up

00:02:04.800 killing her. He just got the life in prison without parole. But apparently, the death penalty was not 0.89

00:02:12.640 on the table because, you know, we have to be kind and empathetic. You know, we're a moral society. We

00:02:20.220 don't believe in the barbarism of taking a life. No. You know what's barbaric? To take off the death

00:02:28.460 penalty for all cases. It is perfectly evolutionarily rational for people to lose their lives if they

00:02:36.620 commit certain heinous crimes. And certainly, this one seemed to fit that. And certainly, if you saw

00:02:43.560 how cold and detached this guy was, as all sorts of people were reading their impact statements,

00:02:50.920 it really broke your heart. I mean, a real psychopath. So there are multiple elements of this 0.99

00:03:19.460 of illegal immigration, but then also the irrationality of many forms of legal immigration. So

00:03:27.160 both of these have problems, right? You can let in legally people that you should not be letting 0.99

00:03:32.320 in in those numbers. And then you could also turn a blind eye to millions of people who are coming into

00:03:37.840 the country illegally. So let's first start with, you know, it's always fun to link whatever you're

00:03:45.540 talking about, or maybe not the right word is not fun, but it's always powerful to infuse into any

00:03:53.460 discussion that one is having on a topic with your own, you know, personal reality with this issue.

00:04:00.780 So as some of you know, I'm currently a visiting professor and global ambassador at Northwood

00:04:08.660 University in Michigan, gorgeous university, gorgeous little town, Midland. And I'm not saying

00:04:15.440 this only because, you know, I'm a global ambassador to the school. It really has been an incredible

00:04:22.040 experience to be there. They give me all the freedom to do great stuff. As long as, of course,

00:04:26.700 I'm contributing to the mission of the university, which I certainly am. But why am I saying this?

00:04:34.360 Because when it came time for me to take this, I took a leave from my home university, might

00:04:42.960 eventually turn into a permanent position, we'll see. But for now, it's a one year leave.

00:04:46.800 Now, I'm Canadian. Yes. I've been a professor at UC Irvine for two years, a professor at Dartmouth

00:04:56.640 College, a professor at my alma mater at Cornell University. Now I'm a professor at Northwood

00:05:03.940 University. I'm a well-known professor, if you forgive the immodesty. Most of the people who are the

00:05:13.960 border agents who were processing me on the border knew me, recognized me and were fans. I've spent 31

00:05:22.060 years as a professor fighting for all of the foundational values that would constitute, you

00:05:28.640 know, American exceptionalism. And yet I had to come to Northwood University legally, right? I had to,

00:05:39.420 you know what I had to do? I had to go down to my university office in downtown Montreal,

00:05:45.520 take off my PhD from Cornell, from the wall, because they asked me to. I took my actual physical

00:06:35.680 diploma. I picked up my doctoral dissertation, had a whole bunch of papers. Northwood University had to

00:06:45.040 hire a immigration law firm to prepare all sorts of papers. And again, it's not as though I'm some

00:06:52.420 unknown person. It's not that, you know, I have a criminal record or it's unsure. It couldn't be any

00:06:59.900 easier than for me to be going to the US. But yet I had to go through a legal process that cost me a

00:07:06.420 day of my life. We had to go to Plattsburgh. We had to wait there for them to process me. Then we

00:07:12.680 went through the whole process. Then, you know, we hung out a bit in Plattsburgh and returned back

00:07:16.620 to Montreal, but we had to do it. So think about it this way. Why is it that I have to go through that

00:07:23.000 process? But 20 million people, that's one estimate, but it's probably more, can just say,

00:07:31.020 I don't give a shit about your laws. It doesn't matter what the laws are. The first action that I 0.98

00:07:37.780 will do is violate the most fundamental laws of the country, which is you can't enter it illegally.

00:14:56.260 whom he was asking said, well, you know, that's not how it works over here. To which my father

00:15:03.080 answered, what kind of barbaric society is this? It sounds funny, but from my father's perspective,

00:15:11.400 from a Middle Eastern perspective, what kind of society is it where you can't solve problems

00:15:17.540 through your networks and by greasing the police officers so that you can get rid of the problem?

00:15:22.820 Because he comes from the Middle East, where that's how things are done. Who you know and what kind of

00:15:30.220 backsheesh you give determines how you navigate through society. Well, that wasn't the case in the

00:15:36.560 West. But now, it is like that in the West. And the people who are coming in come with that baggage.

00:19:40.480 Of all the platitudinous slogans uttered by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau,

00:19:57.680 that the problem disappears. Increasing diversity is the solution to all challenges,

00:20:04.240 be they economic, social, political, environmental, or related to security. Simply double down on the

00:20:11.360 cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity of the massive influx of immigrants into Canada

00:20:17.060 and watch as we all eventually hold hands in brotherly unison while singing John Lennon's

00:20:23.500 imagine. This is the type of ostrich logic that is destroying the future of the West.

00:20:29.680 There are many forms of cultural enrichment, including restaurants of varied cuisines that

00:20:35.180 come from living in a heterogeneous and pluralistic society. But the cultural and religious values

00:21:27.880 countries means a pouring in of numbers into a liberal society of people from cultures at best

00:21:34.480 non-liberal. But we know through our studies and observation that the illiberal mix of cultures 1.00

00:21:40.380 poses one of the greatest dilemmas and an unprecedented challenge to liberal societies such as ours

00:24:04.500 manifold over. That's what suicidal empathy is. That's what ostrich parasitic syndrome is. Does that

00:24:14.800 mean that every single Muslim is a bad guy? Of course not. Does it mean that if Islam gets past a certain 0.89

00:24:22.240 percentage of a population, we can exactly predict what happens? Absolutely. Read the book by Peter Hammond

00:24:29.620 where he breaks down historically what happens to a society as a percentage of Muslim immigration in that

00:24:37.580 society. By the way, there's a field called evolutionary game theory that models what happens to a society

00:24:47.040 when you have different percentages of people who follow different strategies. So there's the classic

00:24:56.200 evolutionary game theoretic model involving hawks and doves. You can look it up. John Maynard Smith is

00:25:06.000 one of the guys who pioneered how you apply evolutionary game theory. And the idea is that depending on the

00:25:13.200 strategies that are pursued by different people, depending on how quickly those population dynamics

00:25:20.580 change, depending on the original number of people that constitutes members in each of those camps,

00:25:27.980 you can create a simulation of how the population will longitudinally shift. So you could apply the

00:25:36.160 principles of evolutionary game theory to say, hey, what happens if you allow entry in the millions of

00:25:44.120 people to your society that don't share your foundational values? The answer is very, very clear.

00:25:50.680 It's as clear as if a endocrinologist were to tell you, here is what happens if you contract diabetes.

00:27:30.980 we know from economics that everything in life involves a cost-benefit trade-off, right? So,

00:27:39.840 for example, when it comes to information search, economists will say, you keep searching for

00:27:45.460 additional information as long as the marginal benefit of acquiring more information is greater

00:27:51.740 than the marginal cost of acquiring such information, right? So this utility framework of,

00:27:59.180 you know, navigating through costs and benefits can be applied to a million contexts. My doctoral

00:28:04.520 dissertation was in psychology of decision-making and information search. So when you're deciding

00:28:10.980 whether individuals should be allowed to come into the country, it has to be that the cost-benefit 0.99

00:28:19.100 analysis is such that each individual who's allowed in has a lot more benefits than costs. But when you let

00:28:29.880 in people who don't speak the language, don't have any education, don't have any skills that you are 0.99

00:28:36.780 desperately in need of, they're not just bringing in neurosurgeons and, you know, teachers and nurses.

00:28:44.640 Millions of people are being let in who are only going to be social welfare recipients. Now, you don't
