00:15:04.120 that he was going to make his own laws and use the notwithstanding clause to make them charter

00:15:09.700 compliance he basically said that he was going to start taking away the rights of canadians

00:15:16.020 but he intimated don't worry not your rights the right okay hold on just a second

00:15:23.060 i i don't know if she knows this she should because she's the government house leader that

00:15:30.100 the notwithstanding clause is actually contained in our constitution in the charter of rights and

00:15:36.660 freedom section 33 it allows any government in this country provincial or federal to override

00:15:44.640 a judicial ruling for a period of no longer than five years it's been used by provincial leaders

00:15:52.440 mostly in quebec but never by the federal government of canada so by corinna gold sitting

00:16:01.700 here and saying that Pierre Polyev is going to take away your rights. No, this is in the

00:16:09.480 Constitution. Now, having said that, when Pierre Polyev does win government, and we don't know when

00:16:16.020 that's going to be, it could be any time between now and the next two and a half years. Shadow,

00:16:21.380 did you say two and a half years and not 18 months? Yes, I did. I'll explain that later on.

00:16:26.400 But Pierre Polyev may have the largest majority in the history of Canadian government in the next election.

00:18:28.440 academics, the media, Canadians writ large were concerned that he was making Canada less democratic.

00:18:36.140 And if you are worried and watching what's happening in the United States with horror

00:18:41.340 when it comes to reproductive rights? Just remember, his anti-women's rights conservative

00:18:47.680 MPs and the anti-choice movement here in Canada are already thinking about how they can apply

00:18:54.620 those same laws and make it harder for Canadian women to access abortion and health care here

00:19:00.060 in Canada. Now, when I was Minister of Democratic Institutions, I reversed his anti-democratic

00:19:07.080 laws and made it easier for hundreds of thousands of Canadians to vote. Because at the end of the

00:19:12.340 day, I believe in people's rights to vote and I believe in their right to democracy. And our

00:19:17.880 government is committed to making sure that we uphold the rights of Canadians, whether it's

00:19:23.400 their right to access abortion, their right to health care, or their right to participate in

00:19:28.340 democracy. We are going to do that. So this long weekend, I challenge you to figure out how you

00:19:35.660 are going to continue to protect our rights and freedoms.

00:19:41.360 It starts by telling Mr. Polyev to keep his hands off

00:19:45.480 of the rights and freedoms of all Canadians.
