00:03:00.000Hey everybody, how you doing? Welcome. It's Shadow at Night, Wednesday, October the 9th, 2024. On the show tonight, it's Nadine Ness from Unified Grassroots. We haven't had Nadine on this year, I don't think. It's been a while, so we're going to get her on in just a couple of minutes to talk about her latest project, which is happening in Regina this coming weekend.
00:03:21.740And it's a leadership summit to teach people how to take back their communities.
00:18:46.680Well, I think I think we all know that's happened over a period of time and we stayed back and didn't participate. And that's why they've taken over so much. So this is to kind of equip conservatives with how to win. Like a lot of the times we'll go out there and we'll say the first thing that's on our minds. And then it gets picked apart by the media. We all know they'll pick you apart even if you say the right thing.
00:19:09.840But this is just to equip people with how do you put your message out there in a way that the general public who will be the one voting can resonate with.
00:19:19.280So I'm not saying don't speak truth, still speak truth, but there's a way of doing it that will resonate with the most amount of people.
00:19:27.160And that I think that's a big reason why our organization during the whole freedom movement grew so much.
00:19:32.980We we really took that marketing, that communication, that PR aspect and applied it to everything we do.
00:19:40.140We did. So even the the vaccinated people were joining our group because they're like, yeah, I'm vaccinated.
00:19:46.600I don't believe in the passport or treating others who aren't vaccinated.
00:19:51.500So we kind of opened our communications in that way.
00:19:55.340And I think conservatives have a harder time doing that because we think more in the individualist aspect.
00:20:02.300so we think we think we're right and and everyone else is wrong and we don't even
00:20:08.080introduce the perspective of the other side into our conversation so sometimes it's hard to even
00:20:14.500get them to listen to you so if you start with the other perspective i would take issue with that
00:20:19.880one i think that we are probably the more fair-minded of the two sides in this battle
00:20:24.980i'm absolutely willing to listen i and have a conversation and have a debate with somebody
00:20:30.240right i want to hear what they have to say but if it starts not making sense and this has been the
00:20:36.520problem that we've been having for the past three years we get information from them we do our
00:20:41.800research and we find out that we've been lied to or their information is wrong and when you go back
00:20:46.300to them and say hey look this isn't right they shut you down and start calling you names they
00:20:51.520don't want to have that debate whereas we do as well right but you're right in that we are more
00:20:56.220individually minded and we set about doing things on our own so and and maybe when it comes to the
00:21:04.160team as we've seen some teams have been uh definitely divided uh in the the conservative
00:21:10.500minded movement the common sense movement for the past couple three years and and like i can't say
00:21:17.520that i i didn't have that mindset too with uh with like oh if i associate with this person too much
00:21:23.720albeit seen as too extreme so like i i will admit i i in order to kind of protect what we were
00:21:30.180trying to do i might have even played a part in that in some aspect but i i was just recently
00:21:35.800talking about there was this guy christopher rufo or russo rufo um from the u.s was in red deer a
00:21:44.060couple weeks ago at an event a strong and canada strong and free network event and he was talking
00:21:49.520about how we we do that in the conservative movement we almost have like a purity test if
00:21:55.080somebody doesn't pass it we kind of rule them out and don't work with them or i think i think we need
00:22:00.380to move past that because no matter what the media is going to attack when you say purity test what
00:22:07.200what do you mean by that like we give them a we give them a uh a questionnaire to fill out and
00:22:13.640If they get a certain amount of answers wrong, then that's it for them?
00:22:17.700I think in some circles, almost yes, where people will be like, oh, this person is extreme.
00:22:25.140I'm going to have nothing to do with them.
00:22:27.120And I'm not saying us as in you and I.
00:22:29.480I'm saying us as in the conservative movement as a whole.
00:22:33.120Like you see like politicians get attacked because, oh, they like to pose by someone who the left has attacked for years,
00:22:41.560even though there's no merit to it what christopher was talking about was to actually
00:22:48.080get behind the conservative voices even if they might say one time something outrageous
00:22:54.080still get behind them and and unlock arms with them because then we're a really bigger force
00:23:00.080the left doesn't cancel well some sometimes but for the most part they don't cancel each other
00:23:06.800out we do that on the right and i can't say that i haven't been guilty to a certain extent of doing
00:23:13.140that same thing i'm i'm just being upfront and honest here but what christopher said is is um
00:23:20.120it just opened my eyes as to if we're going to move forward yes don't cancel each other but also
00:23:26.460if we can equip people with how to fight back in a way that doesn't give ammunition to the other
00:23:33.380side, I'm all for it. So that to me would mean watch, not necessarily what you say, but how you
00:23:42.660say it. You know who the master of not giving a rat's ass about that kind of stuff is, I would say,0.97
00:23:47.780is probably Donald Trump. He just goes out there and says what he says, and he leaves pauses. He0.99
00:23:54.300makes it easy for the left-wing corporate media down there to edit him and make him sound like a0.98
00:23:59.520racist or a womanizer or a criminal. And he knows that it's going to, it's never going to affect
00:24:05.300him. It's probably going to make him even more popular, but he is one guy, one person who's been
00:24:11.020able to do that. I don't know that anybody else is capable of that. Let me ask you, Pierre Polyev,
00:24:17.600you've, you've seen some of the press conferences that he's given in the past year. What do you
00:24:22.280think of his interaction with the media? Is it positive? Is it negative? I think it's great. I
00:24:28.380think if more conservatives talk like him then we'd get further ahead he he's quick-witted whether
00:24:35.300whether you like it or like him or not he knows how to work with media he knows how to call it out
00:24:40.200but but Pierre has mastered something that a lot of politicians haven't he's mastered how to reach
00:24:47.420the people without the media so he can do these things now you have other politicians that haven't
00:24:54.000really kind of taken advantage of that social media aspect which he has his team has been
00:24:59.620phenomenal whoever he's hired is great i just wish more politicians would have that type of reach and
00:25:07.840that type of team behind them because i think you would see a huge difference in in the u.s
00:25:13.060of course they have those people almost everywhere so that's why the people can kind of reach reach
00:25:18.980the public but it's funny you talk about donald trump because donald trump can pull off what most
00:25:24.200people can't and we we can't say another politicians can do what donald trump does
00:25:29.380someone else will do it and they'll get canceled they'll never be able to to work in politics but
00:25:34.460but the reason he pulls it off it's his authentic self everyone knows what they're getting with him
00:25:40.440do i think that there's a better way yeah i'm a huge fan of jd vance and it's not just because
00:25:46.620he's my husband's twin literally you almost can't tell them apart but um yeah they do they do i
00:25:54.960should almost pull it up on your screen there but uh it's funny everyone at his off at his office
00:26:01.820even some of his patients call him jd vance so i call him mr vice president around the house
00:26:08.340but um but is that a good thing or a bad thing that he looks like jd vance
00:26:13.800do people recognize him and want to throw eggs at him or do they want to shake his hand or both
00:26:18.720oh no i don't think i think in saskatchewan like if you look at jd vance i hope it's okay we talk
00:26:24.540american politics because i'm just such a huge fan of his delivery i wish more politicians were
00:26:30.460like him um but yeah if you look at him during the debate he was cool calm collected he even like
00:26:37.920fact check the lady who who was fact checking him with errors and he didn't he didn't stop
00:26:43.560and it's funny I didn't really know much about him um leading up to the who who they were going
00:26:50.360to pick for president somebody mentioned his name and I looked I looked at a video and he was like
00:26:56.240going back and forth with media and I'm like I want him to be the guy because he can do what
00:27:02.160trump has a hard time doing and that's being um articulate the actual issues right yeah yeah he's
00:27:10.660actually a great pick for trump because he balances him out so i think it i think this year trump has
00:27:19.460made really solid picks for who he's surrounding himself with and it's only going to make him
00:27:25.840better for it so i really hope he wins look who he's got he's got jd vance and by the way
00:27:31.940if you guys don't know much about jd vance you guys watching this right now watch the movie
00:27:36.020hillbilly elegy or read the book it's absolutely fantastic it shows you how how he was brought up
00:27:42.500then he's got um tulsi gabbard former democrat right former presidential nominee or not nominee
00:27:50.340but definitely a candidate she was in the uh in the race a couple of years ago and you've got
00:27:56.900rfk jr so they've built a coalition that reaches across like the old style democrats and the
00:28:06.180republicans and it's quite powerful when you have a democrat who is a lifelong democrat saying you
00:28:12.980know what these these people are far too extreme for me i'm gonna go with donald trump who's who's
00:28:18.180not all that extreme it's not even any close to extreme at all not at all the way he's painted
00:28:25.300in the left-wing corporate media worldwide which is remarkable don't you think yeah um he's an
00:28:34.140amazing speaker though like i i know he's got issues with his voice but his choice of words
00:28:40.300and and how he conducts himself i didn't know like a whole lot about him other than during
00:28:45.740covid like he was a shining light because he was saying this isn't right he was one of the
00:28:50.180one speaking out but then if you look at his background as to what he's tackled like he's a
00:28:55.540man of principle and character and he doesn't cave he doesn't shy away from it uh there was
00:29:01.900one interview he did that i thought was really funny he and it kind of gave light to who trump
00:29:08.040was if if you haven't watched the interview trump did on gutfield i highly recommend you do
00:29:14.700but um but rfk said rfk jr said at one point he was planning on going to florida with his family
00:29:25.100and his they weren't going to be able to fly so his wife asked if i can find a ride there
00:29:30.540can we go and he said sure so she comes back and she says donald trump will give us a ride
00:29:35.900and rfk is like well did you know i'm suing him i'm suing him like in two court case
00:29:41.540and she's like he knows he doesn't care he still want to drive us and and it's funny because that
00:29:48.260that says a lot about who Trump is that he has all these people who have said things against him
00:29:54.220in the past and on gut field he was asked about that and he said if I was to to rule out anyone
00:30:01.100who said something bad about me I would have no one to work with so and and but it just goes to
00:30:08.320show they they showed a different side of him he he's not just all pride he actually can put that
00:30:14.960down to do what is right for the country which i think he's misunderstood in that way and
00:30:20.220i saw trump in a whole new light when i heard that story i'm like okay that's a guy who will
00:30:25.160put his mission and the the country ahead of his own pride or ego to do what needs to get done so
00:30:32.280yeah we need more about Donald Trump I find is that if you go back before all of the political
00:30:40.220stuff started around 2015 and you see his appearances on talk shows from the 80s and the
00:30:46.44090s and even the little movie cameos that he had and tv show cameos not I'm not talking about the
00:30:51.940apprentice I'm talking about just interview style shows or appearances on sitcoms what you see from
00:30:58.420him is just a guy who who cares ultimately about the future of his country yeah he's got a lot of
00:31:07.980money he's a billionaire he's a the art of a deal you know he's a he's a shark you have to be to get
00:31:13.440that uh become that successful in the business world especially in new york city but i think
00:31:18.420that's a guy who just deeply cares about his country and he wants to do the right thing and
00:31:22.560ever since he decided he was going to run uh actually decide that they started to attack
00:31:30.160and there's a whole there is a whole philosophy as to why that is i'm not going to get into that
00:31:36.260here do you think we need do you think we need more american style communication up here and i
00:31:44.820would imagine you're going to say yes because you're bringing sean noble and matthew martin
00:31:48.640up for this big seminar this weekend and they know exactly how to do that right well if you
00:31:54.960had asked me this a year ago i would have said no but if you look how organized the the left has
00:32:03.080gotten and what they have a lot used they have brought american style type of politicking or
00:32:10.580whatever how you say that word political action here the only way we're going to counter that
00:32:16.860I think it was with being just as knowledge, just as aggressive on how to reach the people.
00:32:22.960And like if I if I write a tweet that that just says boring things, boring facts, it doesn't get shared.
00:32:30.060It doesn't get retweeted. It doesn't reach people.
00:32:32.440I have to invoke emotion. That's what the Americans are so good at doing in the U.S., right?
00:32:37.660All of their political ad is to invoke emotions.
00:32:40.980And if you look at how our government and the left has been behaving in the last few years, especially during COVID, they've already implemented that.
00:32:50.100Whether we want to recognize it being true or not, the fact is that's happened.
00:32:56.000They're using behavioral manipulation, behavioral signs to do it.
00:33:01.780So in order for us to counter that, I think we need to find different techniques because our two nice techniques aren't working anymore.
00:33:09.760so so i'm i'm not opposed to it do i think in the u.s it's a little bit uh dirty yeah but i also
00:33:17.920think trudeau is more divisive than most of any politicians that i've seen in the u.s so how are
00:33:24.100we going to counter that how are we going to get our message out there if we're being too nice and
00:33:29.560too and just too afraid of even saying what needs to be said and i think i think it's needed but
00:33:36.660even bringing these guys in if you listen to them it's not necessarily American style politics
00:33:41.720it's basic marketing techniques like I was in Ottawa and I listened to some of the leadership
00:33:48.560institute train and it was really good marketing did they show American examples yeah but you could
00:33:54.820easily apply it to Canada and it's funny because the left will attack and say oh Americanized
00:34:00.960extremists or whatever but yet they do events and have hillary clinton and and obama obama come like
00:34:08.080they're doing it too so yeah it's interesting um go ahead i'm yeah i'm not opposed to it uh in fact
00:34:17.220like learning from from some of the things that that non-profit groups do there there's so much
00:34:23.560more advanced in the conservative movement than we are like we fall behind we don't have a lot of
00:34:29.460conservative voices we have you laura lynn we have sean newman like a few voices but but they
00:34:35.740have a machine down there to counter the narrative so if we can build that here i'm all for it
00:34:43.180yeah you know you're absolutely right they also have fox news down there and and news nation not
00:34:48.460necessarily that fox news is you know people have still kind of got suspicions about fox news since
00:34:55.320to talk to Carlson fiasco but you know up here you're right we don't have a lot of that we don't
00:35:00.020have any corporate media that leans right at all CTV and Global and CBC they're all very far left
00:35:05.820and same with City News owned by Rogers. We can have an online presence though we do with this
00:35:11.620show every night and the others that you mentioned and there are a few scattered across the country
00:35:15.660that do something like this but what I'm talking about specifically is the online presence you have
00:35:20.820to build a presence you nadine have built a presence online on x and i know that you're doing
00:35:25.720a lot of live streams uh content wise it's very good on your on your x account uh you've built
00:35:32.560it up to what 50 000 followers now which is absolutely fantastic not quite but almost
00:35:38.080you're getting there but here's the thing it can be damaging as well i'm not sure if you've noticed
00:35:43.060this depending on how much time you spend on x but in bc the ndp they've got an election going
00:35:49.720on there as well. And the NDP were trailing. They were actually trailing the conservative party with
00:35:54.800John Rustad. And then about two weeks ago, they started with these awful, malicious, online,
00:36:01.000brutal attacks on Rustad and the conservatives. And since then, the polls have changed, not a lot,
00:36:08.640but just a little bit to put the NDP back on top. And I'm not sure if they've been running
00:36:13.920commercials on TV and radio in BC because I don't live there. But I think that that online
00:36:19.680online messaging, whether it's negative or positive, has a big effect. Do you know how
00:36:24.980many people actually trust the left-wing corporate media in this country now? A report just came out
00:36:30.000a few days ago. It's amazing. I don't think many. 32. That is the lowest it's ever been. Last year
00:36:38.100it was 39, but before the pandemic response started, it was in the high 50s. So the corporate
00:36:44.180media has lost our trust, they're coming online to get their information, even if they can't get
00:36:50.480it on Facebook because of C-18 and C-11. They're going to YouTube. They're going to X, definitely.
00:36:56.740And if we can build the presence that you've built with Unified Grassroots and your own personal
00:37:02.340brand on X, we can have an influence on things and we can make a difference. But what I see
00:37:08.540is a very coordinated attack from the left on pretty much every front
00:37:13.060and the right constantly playing defense.
00:37:15.760And I think we need to start playing some offense here.
00:37:19.460Yeah, and if you notice, too, that attack only happened in the last few weeks.
00:37:25.660The same thing happened in Saskatchewan.
00:37:29.260If you go look at the NDP, all of a sudden,
00:37:32.200they have some really good marketing videos that are going out.
00:37:35.680like you can tell that there's money that's gotten going in there and unfortunately because
00:37:41.840we don't have a lot of people who are really knowledge on how to do the same thing on the
00:37:46.200right we're falling behind i wish i i do know that uh john has a team um working in bc but still if
00:37:55.720if we had the machine the left does they have the unions they have the money from the unions
00:38:00.720they even started the unions in saskatchewan started doing uh i vote for public education
00:38:06.880sign so the union is selling the lawn sign and because it's not a political party people are
00:38:12.500putting it on their lawn because of course i'm not against public education like they have a
00:38:17.840machine and unless we organize and do the same thing on the right we're going to lose momentum
00:38:23.060and we're going to lose territory which um we've already done so we we not only have to match we
00:38:29.840We have to catch up to what they're doing.
