00:22:55.260 year and a half with those foreign nationals coming in to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces. 0.97

00:23:08.660 strength of 105,000 personnel. This phenomenon has been called a death spiral for the CAF by

00:23:22.780 of those personnel remaining in uniform, those uniforms are getting a little tight. A recent
00:23:27.540 Ontario citizen headline read almost three quarters of Canadian troops are overweight or obese
00:23:33.040 documents. That's a staggering statistic and one which defies logic. One would think that
00:23:40.720 the very nature of the occupation would require a high level of fitness. Yeah, of course.
00:23:47.980 Yet according to a series of briefings presented to senior military leaders in June of 2024,
00:23:53.720 44% of personnel in the CAF are overweight and another 28% are classified as obese.
00:24:01.020 For those of you thinking that this simply reflects Canadian society, think again.
00:24:05.540 The CAF statistics are actually worse than that of the general population.
00:24:09.920 Roughly 78% of military men are considered overweight or obese,
00:24:14.180 while only 68% of Canadian civilian males are in that category.

00:24:25.100 However, the national average among Canadian civilian women is only 53% in the overweight or obese category.
